First look: Dykstra/Baltic 117 Perseverance

The Dykstra/Baltic 117 Perseverance made its debut at the 2022 Monaco Yacht Show and has already won Sailing Yacht of the Year at the World Superyacht Awards

It would seem that I’m not alone in finding Dykstra’s modern classic designs stunning, especially its pilot cutter-inspired models. The 117ft Perseverance scooped Sailing Yacht of the Year at the World Superyacht Awards earlier this summer, together with eco and best naval architecture awards.

The pilot cutter style, with its trademark features such as plumb stem and bowsprit, squared deckhouses and counter stern, is one which has stood the test of time for its practicality as well as aesthetic appeal. For example, the long bowsprit helps enable multiple headsail options, while the deep cockpits and high bulwarks provide a secure feeling on deck.

Perseverance can set and furl its formidable sail wardrobe via push buttons for easy short-handed cruising, particularly useful for a cruising yacht which is chartered out.

Behind the oiled teak veneers of its traditional deckhouses and swept decks lies a high-tech composite build by world leaders in their craft Baltic Yachts. A diesel-electric propulsion system charges the battery bank to allow for up to nine hours of silent ship at anchor. While sailing, a free spinning propeller combines with the electric motor for power generation.

Efficient energy systems are used throughout, including the reuse of waste air conditioning and it is estimated that the power savings aboard amount to over 70lt of fuel per day when in guest/owner mode.

This yacht is an advanced composite 117ft (35.8m) Custom Classic sloop from the board of renowned Dutch designers Dykstra Naval Architects.

A light and airy interior with industrial chic finishing elements by deVosdeVries design. The 117’s contemporary design features grey white stained oak for the general furniture finish. The white painted upper bulkheads are

fitted with horizontal shadow gaps, increasing the spatial feeling. By contrast the floors are finished in dark maple, which has been used in some parts of the overhead and for several joinery details as well.

A BEAUTIFUL BALTIC IS BORN

The video shows how the two halves of the one-off timber mould are carefully moved aside before the hull is lifted clear using our overhead cranes. The two mould structures are manoeuvred from the build space before the 16-ton hull, suspended overhead, is carefully lowered onto a purpose-built cradle, in which it will sit until the yacht is ready to launch.

Westport Yachts Announces 117-footer

Thanks to officials in Washington state lifting Covid-19 restrictions,  Westport Yachts is beginning construction on its newly tooled Westport 117 raised pilothouse motoryacht.

Work is scheduled to begin the first week of June, with the yacht expected to be completed in 2022. The build will be ABS classed and MCA compliant.

The Westport 117 has a beam of 25 feet 2 inches, and a draft of 6 feet 7 inches. There are accommodations for 10 guests, including a main-deck master stateroom, along with quarters for five crew.

According to Westport, the 117 will have a cruising speed of 20 knots with a top-end speed of 24 knots. Power is a pair of 1,900-horsepower Caterpillar C32 Acerts.

Baltic Launches 39.6m Baltic 117 Sailing Yacht Perseverance

Finnish yacht builder  Baltic Yachts  has launched the 39.6 metre Baltic 117 sailing yacht, which has now been named  Perseverance .  The 39.6 metre custom classic sloop, which was built at the yard’s Jakobstad facility, features an advanced composite and is due for delivery later this year.

Perseverance has been constructed as a Baltic 117 Custom Classic and features naval architecture from her builder,  Baltic Yachts , whilst her exterior lines come from the drawing boards of Dykstra Naval Architects. The sloop-rigged yacht is constructed of GRP and is equipped with an electric propulsion system, which is powered by a lithium-ion battery bank allowing her to operate in ‘silent mode’.

Accommodation will be for a total of eight guests in a forward owner’s suite and three other double guest cabins. Crew accommodation aft will allow for a staff of six.

Baltic launches 39.6m Baltic 117 sailing yacht Perseverance

Finnish sailing yacht builder Baltic Yachts has launched the 39.6 metre Baltic 117 sailing yacht, which has now been named Perseverance .

The 39.6 metre custom classic sloop , which was built at the yard's Jakobstad facility, features an advanced composite and is due for delivery later this year.

The yacht was commissioned by “experienced” yachtsman but new Baltic client in June 2019. The custom yacht is designed by Dutch firm  Dykstra Naval Architects  and features a straight stem, bowsprit, counter stern and deep bulwarks.

Described as possessing “distinctive pilot cutter-style features”, the yacht will also have a “very modern approach to emissions and the environment,” the yard said.

This includes features such as “smart” cabins, which are designed to automatically reduce power consumption when empty. Air conditioning energy waste will also be recycled to heat water on board.

The electric propulsion system will be powered by a lithium ion battery bank, allowing the yacht to operate in “silent” mode for long periods of time.

Accommodation will be for a total of eight guests in a forward owner’s suite and three other double guest cabins. Crew accommodation aft will allow for a staff of six.

A “light and contemporary” interior design meanwhile comes from  deVosdeVries  with key materials including stained oak, dark bog oak trims and “industrial chic hardware.”

SUMMARY & LAYOUT

CRESCENT LADY was completed by Crescent Yachts in Vancouver Canada in 2020 and due to the import/export restrictions in Canada during Covid she was not able to arrive in Florida to be sold until 2022. She is being sold as a new yacht with full builders & manufacturers warranties in place.

When comparing her to other similar size & aged yachts on the market she represents an excellent opportunity.

She sleeps 10 guests in 5 cabins with 4 cabins located on the lower level including a full beam master ensuite with walk-in closet & sitting area. Forward of the galley is the fifth cabin which could also be used as a Captain's cabin due to location.

Substantial crew accommodations back aft sleep up to 6 crew in 3 cabins including a spacious ensuite captains cabin, bunk room and queen crew cabin that share a Jack & Jill bathroom.

The main salon has an open floor plan that includes a sitting area, large pop-up tv and formal dining. Forward to port is access to the country kitchen open galley & 5th guest cabin. To starboard is the day head, access to the dog-house and then stairs lead up to the wheelhouse while another set leads down to the guest cabins. 

The wheel house is fantastic with excellent raised visibility for the captain and guests who can enjoy views from the 2 separate sitting areas.

The exterior of the vessel has numerous locations that allow guests to lounge & spread out starting with the massive aft deck complete with formal dining area, bar, tv, and sun pads that overlook the double-wide swim platform located below. Full walk arounds to both port & starboard lead to the bow area where you can find a raised sun bed that allows multiple people to relax and enjoy the sun or the view when underway. 

Making your way up to the boat deck from the aft deck stairs you have an open space that will allow the owner to carry a substantial tender plus space for 2 full size jet skis & water sports toys. Complimenting the space is a BBQ, jacuzzi, and massive storage area which is accessible behind the stairs that lead to the upper sundeck. 

The sundeck has a center line helm station with wing stations to both port & starboard. Built in L-shaped settees mirror one another. Part of the highlight of the yachts profile lines is the gorgeous hard top that has a well laid out mast and built in glass skylights.

CRESCENT LADY is a fantastic yacht which comes with a unique history which is worth sharing.

The hull was originally built for Destiny Yachts circa 2000 & was never completed. It sat unfinished until Crescent Yachts saw the opportunity, purchased the project in 2018 and over the next 2 years finished the build under the guidance of well respected designer & naval architect Gregory C Marshall.

The engines are also 2001 and were obviously never entered into service so they come with a standard 2 year warranty and have been brought up to current EPA standards with EIAPP certificates issued.

All major components including her generators and Zeus shore power converters are also offered with warranty. Galley equipment still has manuals in the drawers and have never been used. Her navigation package is the latest equipment as outlined in her technical specifications of this brochure. 

I am sharing her history in order to give full disclosure & this also helps explain how a 2020 117ft yacht can be offered for such a competitive price. The builder has far more money invested into the build than the asking price so someone is going to end up with a great yacht at an even better price. 

CRESCENT LADY is currently docked in the Free Trade Zone at Seahaven Superyacht Marina in the greater Fort Lauderdale area. Inspections and offers are highly recommended.

SUMMARY & LAYOUT

CRESCENT LADY was completed by Crescent Yachts in Vancouver Canada in 2020 and due to the import/export restrictions in Canada during Covid she was not able to arrive in Florida to be sold until 2022. She is being sold as a new yacht with full builders & manufacturers warranties in place.

When comparing her to other similar size & aged yachts on the market she represents an excellent opportunity.

She sleeps 10 guests in 5 cabins with 4 cabins located on the lower level including a full beam master ensuite with walk-in closet & sitting area. Forward of the galley is the fifth cabin which could also be used as a Captain's cabin due to location.

Substantial crew accommodations back aft sleep up to 6 crew in 3 cabins including a spacious ensuite captains cabin, bunk room and queen crew cabin that share a Jack & Jill bathroom.

The main salon has an open floor plan that includes a sitting area, large pop-up tv and formal dining. Forward to port is access to the country kitchen open galley & 5th guest cabin. To starboard is the day head, access to the dog-house and then stairs lead up to the wheelhouse while another set leads down to the guest cabins.

The wheel house is fantastic with excellent raised visibility for the captain and guests who can enjoy views from the 2 separate sitting areas.

The exterior of the vessel has numerous locations that allow guests to lounge & spread out starting with the massive aft deck complete with formal dining area, bar, tv, and sun pads that overlook the double-wide swim platform located below. Full walk arounds to both port & starboard lead to the bow area where you can find a raised sun bed that allows multiple people to relax and enjoy the sun or the view when underway.

Making your way up to the boat deck from the aft deck stairs you have an open space that will allow the owner to carry a substantial tender plus space for 2 full size jet skis & water sports toys. Complimenting the space is a BBQ, jacuzzi, and massive storage area which is accessible behind the stairs that lead to the upper sundeck.

The sundeck has a center line helm station with wing stations to both port & starboard. Built in L-shaped settees mirror one another. Part of the highlight of the yachts profile lines is the gorgeous hard top that has a well laid out mast and built in glass skylights.

CRESCENT LADY is a fantastic yacht which comes with a unique history which is worth sharing.

The hull was originally built for Destiny Yachts circa 2000 & was never completed. It sat unfinished until Crescent Yachts saw the opportunity, purchased the project in 2018 and over the next 2 years finished the build under the guidance of well respected designer & naval architect Gregory C Marshall.

The engines are also 2001 and were obviously never entered into service so they come with a standard 2 year warranty and have been brought up to current EPA standards with EIAPP certificates issued.

All major components including her generators and Zeus shore power converters are also offered with warranty. Galley equipment still has manuals in the drawers and have never been used. Her navigation package is the latest equipment as outlined in her technical specifications of this brochure.

I am sharing her history in order to give full disclosure & this also helps explain how a 2020 117ft yacht can be offered for such a competitive price. The builder has far more money invested into the build than the asking price so someone is going to end up with a great yacht at an even better price.

CRESCENT LADY is currently docked in the Free Trade Zone at Seahaven Superyacht Marina in the greater Fort Lauderdale area. Inspections and offers are highly recommended.

Video shows biscayne bay boat collision that injured 13.

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Newly released video captured the moments two boats collided in Biscayne Bay, injuring more than a dozen people .

“You have people that were rendered unconscious, people that suffered serious injuries,” said attorney Thomas Graham, whose firm Mausner Graham Injury Law is representing four of the victims.

Thirteen people were rushed to the hospital following the collision that occurred on Feb. 11 in Biscayne Bay.

One of the victims, a tourist from New York, was taking a video on Instagram and inadvertently recorded the impact.

“At the time, she was taking a selfie on Instagram, recording that video,” attorney Eric Mausner said.

That video is a key piece of evidence that her attorneys are using to prove negligence in a pending civil lawsuit.

“We actually believe that both vessels are at fault,” said Graham. “On a water body like this, there are on-land navigation rules that you are required to follow and it’s basic common sense, such as maintain a safe speed, maintain a safe lookout and avoid collisions.”

The 55-foot Thriller speedboat was left heavily damaged, with its seats rearranged by the impact that violently tossed and injured passengers.

The other boat involved in the crash was a 43-foot luxury boat that the U.S. Coast Guard believes may have been operating as an illegal charter.

While an official investigation has yet to be completed, the video offers a rare glimpse at how things went so wrong.

New trends in boating: 2024 Boat Show comes to Fort Wayne

F ORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — The 2024 Fort Wayne Boat Show & Sale is bringing 52 vendors to the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum starting Thursday.

According to Brian Athmer, President of Harris Pontoon Boats, Indiana is one of hottest markets for pontoon boat sales.

“The Midwest is still the strongest market for pontoon boats,” Athmer said. “That’s for a variety of reasons: the number of lakes, the depth of lakes. It’s pretty well suited for pontoon boats.”

Technology in the boating industry follows closely behind the automotive industry, Athmer said. Some new models now have key fobs where owners can start their boat and turn on the lights and speakers before even leaving the house.

According to Athmer, the industry is also getting more involved with using electric motors.

“The company, Mercury, has a wide range of electric motors that they’ve come to market with,” Athmer said. “We’re partnered with them to bring those to the electric pontoon boat market. We’re doing [that] in the very, very near future.”
