EXTERIOR DESIGN

With a straight stem allowing for new interior volumes in the bow area, and a maximum beam (5 m) carried further aft, the Oceanis Yacht 54 offers a state-of-the-art, perfectly balanced hull that maximizes thrills in all conditions.

Movement on deck was given special attention, particularly around the cockpit, which modernizes the traditional center cockpit design into a flush layout with distinct areas dedicated to lounging and sailing. Aptly drawn coamings and high bulwarks provide increased safety while transiting to the foredeck, and access to the sea is provided by the spacious swim platform, which, when deployed, reveals the space below the cockpit to store an eight-foot inflatable tender.

The Oceanis Yacht 54 is available with two different drafts: 2,50 m (standard), 1,95 m (option). 

Interior Design

Lorenzo Argento’s objective in designing the interior was to create a warm, modern atmosphere with as much natural light and ventilation as possible.

The Oceanis Yacht 54’s layouts reflect a desire to meet the needs of modern-day owners, through well-engineered, versatile cabin arrangements that provide unrivaled levels of comfort and capacious storage space. Tables and seating areas have been reimagined to offer both conviviality and practicality, and access to all major systems and components hides in plain sight.

There are two versions available, a 3-cabin 2-head or a 3-cabin 3-head, and both can be built using light oak or walnut. 

Every detail of the Oceanis Yacht 54 has been meticulously examined to become one with the crew and the sea.

She is, at a glance, unmistakably Oceanis – the mainsail arch, the modern sheerline, the elegant proportions, those distinctive coamings and portholes – and honors her pedigree by continuing to offer the features that have made the range a standard-bearer in the industry. A vast array of options, trim levels, rigging and keel setups, and mechanical components ensure there will be a tailored yacht to fit the needs of every sailor, and her stylish looks will turn heads in every harbor on every ocean. 

Safe and Easy Sailing

The Oceanis Yacht 54 isn’t just modern on the outside; it is a yacht that is crammed with the latest and greatest sailing technologies, intuitively built into her systems, that are designed to make the cruising experience as easy and as enjoyable as possible. Ship Control, an interface that allows access to boat data and components, is installed as standard. Dock&Go, which greatly facilitates engine-powered manoeuvering in tight spaces by combining a 360 degree rotating pod with a retractable bowthruster, is available as an option. Under sail, the optional Harken AST (assisted sail trim) automatically trims the sails based on apparent wind, all controlled by a simple display in the cockpit. Shorthanding a 54-footer has never been easier.

Great Ease of Movement

The flush cockpit allows for seamless movement between the companionway and the helm stations, creating an invisible partition between active and passive areas on deck. The flow to the aft swim platform and down the gangways to the foredeck is remarkably natural, and the positioning of lines, winches and controls allows for near-effortless sailing. Sightlines from the helm forward are excellent. The cockpit seats feel comfortable yet snug, though it is the foredeck sunpad that is likely to be the most popular spot on the boat.

Exclusive Trim and Materials

A close inspection of the Oceanis Yacht 54’s engineering and build quality reveals a craft that is decidedly a cut above the rest. Every single aspect of the boat has been carefully reexamined and nothing has been taken for granted - from the high-quality door fixtures and upholstery, to the exquisite molded woods of the interior, to the aluminum sub-floor that increases rigidity yet saves weight. The owner will be able to choose between two cabin layouts (both with two wood options available) and a palette of upholstery and paneling choices, to say nothing of electronic, mechanical, and rigging selections. Whatever the choice, on such a beautifully executed boat, the owner is bound to be one with the boat, and one with the sea. 

A connected boat

The mobile application, Seanapps , and its onboard unit lets you view the status of the boat's various systems (battery charge, fuel or water tank levels, maintenance scheduling) via your smartphone, as well as planning your route or reviewing your sailing status using your mobile phone.

Best Full-Size Cruiser 50-54 Feet

Winner: Dufour 520

Three French boats of similar size and price points came together to form the Best Full-Size Cruiser 50 to 54 Feet class. The Beneteau Oceanis 51.1, Dufour 520 and Jeanneau 51 were built from three of the world’s most established and well-known high-volume production boatyards.

The Beneteau 51.1 was a fresh, new design, not a scaled-up add-on to a previous line of yachts. Its hull form includes a hard chine, something that Tim Murphy immediately noticed. “Beneteau was one of the first companies to add chines, they were in the first wave,” he said. “The chines were always aft of the beam, and you’d hear three things about why they were putting them there. Some would say it’s for styling, some for performance, some for interior volume. It does give you a structural bump in the hull form.

“This boat, according to a company representative, was inspired by Rambler, an 88-foot maxi racing boat that has a very, very fine entry forward and then the chine right up near the bow, so it gets some flare and volume straightaway. This Beneteau is also carrying the chine forward, which gives you low wetted surface below the waterline and then large interior volume outside of that. So this is a new thing we’re seeing.”

“I thought the boat sailed very nicely,” said Bill Bolin. “The code zero sail was fabulous, it really lit the boat up. It had a big bimini, but it wasn’t a problem getting out of the cockpit from the steering stations, which were in the aft corners.”

“On the motoring side of things, this boat has plenty of power,” said Ed Sherman when discussing the Jeanneau 51. “At 2,800 rpm, we were getting 8.5 knots, and the sound levels were very low.”

“One of the things I hadn’t seen on a boat this size was the aluminum stringer system down below,” said Bolin. “During sea trials, we had light air, maybe 6 to 8 knots of breeze, and the boat was making 4.8 to 5 knots. And when the wind picked up a little, we actually registered 6.6 knots. It tacked through about 95 degrees, so from a performance standpoint the boat was pretty good.”

“The Jeanneau 51 is the smallest boat in Jeanneau’s Yacht series, which also includes a 54, 58 and 64,” said Murphy. “They call the transformer transom, which folds down to make a swimming and boarding platform, the ‘terrace.’ So they’re able to use the same part for the 51’s terrace as they do for the 54. It’s the same for the cockpit table. So that’s one of the reasons they’re able to bring in the smaller boat at a competitive price point.”

At $420,000 for the base boat, the least expensive yacht in this grouping was the Dufour 520. “In terms of motoring capability, it’s quite good,” said Sherman. “We got 9.2 knots at high speed, which was excellent.”

“The Dufour offered the most pleasurable sailing experience in this class,” said Murphy. “It starts with the helm, which answered beautifully and I didn’t feel like I was fighting it. It was a very smooth feeling. We did not sail it in a lot of breeze, maybe 7 to 8 knots, but we were making close to 6 knots. I wrote down, ‘The helm feels good,’ and underlined it.”

The creature comforts were also outstanding on the Dufour. “There’s a lot of flexibility in the cockpit,” added Murphy. “When sailing, you use it in the traditional way. But once you’re at anchor you have sun pads that come out and a transom that folds down to reveal a sink, grill and fridge. So it becomes kind of a party platform with the outdoor galley.

“Down below, you have the [real] galley forward, so all of the social space is gathered right at the base of the companionway stairs when you come down. The navigation station slides forward, so you can use it as an aft-facing nav station or a forward-facing table for socializing. There were all these things that adapt to the different ways people use their boats, and that boat was also the best to go sailing on. The helm felt the best, there was a traveler on the main so you could shape your mainsail leech, and it had a good suit of sails, so it also gave you the most options there.”

“It has a lot of unique features, and they delivered them well,” said Bolin. “I feel the Dufour 520 was the winner of the Best Full-Size Cruiser 50 to 54 Feet class.” And so did his fellow panelists.

The large cockpit of the Eagle 54 provides plenty of space for you and your guests to relax and take in the beauty of your surroundings. Whether you're sunbathing, dining, or simply enjoying the views, this is the perfect place to unwind. And with the option of single-handed sailing, you have the freedom to explore and navigate with ease.

The cabin is thoughtfully designed and equipped with all the essentials to ensure a comfortable and convenient stay.There are two interior options, one with the galley and heads near the cabin entrance and a version with the galley and heads further forward. The second variant has two additional pilot bunks. Both layouts feature a large saloon with the owner's berth near the bow. Since this 54-foot yacht is a semi-customized vessel, the owners can decide on the interior design themselves. By default, the interior is bright white with beautiful mahogany details.

With halyards and the jib sheets running below the deck, the Eagle 54 has an ultra-sleek deck layout. For easy handling, the jib winches are positioned within reach of the helmsman. Just forward of the jib winches, the two halyard winches, which double as gennaker sheet winches. The halyard's tails neatly disappear in the cockpit coaming. A captive winch mounted below deck, allows the mainsheet to be trimmed with the push of a button. Also the powered headsail furler is mounted below deck. The standard rigging features a carbon mast and boom. The boomvang and backstay are easily controlled from the helm on the hydraulic panel.

The Eagle 54 is famed for its cruising comfort. Taking advantage from our experience as well as listening to suggestions coming from our owners, captains and experts, we constantly and rigorously test every new Swan model, from launch through early life in order to improve our boats – keeping them updated in terms of technology, safety, comfort and changes in regulations. This passionate attention to improvement is one of the key reasons why Swan yachts are the most appreciated boats in the world. This process was obviously applied to our successful and beloved Swan 54.

The outstanding Swan 54 just got even better.

The architect

This is the second generation of blue water cruising yachts, designed for Nautor. She has been refined in all departments and stands out in the crowd because of her design and the inherent quality of her construction. This is a sailing yacht, large enough for a group of six to cruise in comfort but small enough to be able to be sailed and maintained by her owners. This is the boat anybody like me, with a wealth of offshore racing experience and a taste for blue water cruising with family and friends, or young people looking to have the adventure of their lives, would dream to own and enjoy in all places of the world without limitations of any sort. She is graceful, elegant and nice looking, the freeboards and overhangs are well proportioned and will have timeless appeal.

Form and function are in complete harmony. Her hull lines are sweet and undistorted and she has an easy motion at sea, no pounding when powering upwind against a moderate chop. The prismatic coefficient was planned for above average all around speed over 8 knots. The waterplane area as a result of the relatively long waterline coupled with a high center of buoyancy contribute in great part to the form stability thus, the relatively low ballast to displacement ratio to enhance a good soft motion. Both appendage configurations will be moderately loaded while going upwind and never stall and there is plenty of steering control in all conditions. The deck is minimalistic in design and well married to the hull in appearance. Surfaces are clean and uncluttered facilitating sail handling and the movement of crew while sailing or at anchor. Her rig completes the equation, She will be a joy to sail.

The deck layout has been developed to meet two fundamental objectives: ensure com- fortable sailing with limited crew and provide areas designed to best enjoy life onboard. The transom opens fully into a wide swim platform allowing direct access to the sea. The positioning of the mainsheet on the coachroof, rather than in the cockpit, allows the use of the wide bimini while sailing. The bimini, together with the sprayhood which is recessed and retractable, provides complete protection from the elements. The four standard electric winches in the cockpit, close to the helmsman, facilitate easy sailing with limited crew. The generous stowage volumes, including the sail locker in the bow and full lazarette in the stern area, enable all equipment, such as a RIB (inflatable), fenders and sails to be safely stowed yet remain easily accessible.

MODEL YEAR 2019

For Model Year 2019 we are pleased to present you the latest features and improvements which have been implemented for deck gear, that is:

• Swimming ladder integrated into the transom with a dedicated opening, well designed and functional for swimming
• Engine throttle: new model, more premium feel and in line with the cruising purpose of the boat
• Re-designed anchor locked with more space for optional additional chain and a proper top inspection suitable to wash the chain
• New solution for chain access below deck, with preventer for water flow
• Added stainless steel hand hold on the upper part of the pedestals

Similar to the deck layout, the interior has been designed to ensure maximum comfort for long periods, both under sail and at anchor. This original configuration offers three double cabins, with the owner’s cabin forward and two guest cabins, one central and the other aft. There is also a fourth cabin dedicated to systems and storage, including the generator and washing machine, with the possibility to add a work table so as to convert it into a crew cabin. A configuration perfectly suited for extended bluewater cruising and lengthy stays aboard. The saloon has a ‘c’ shaped sofa, which is three metres long, with a central table and two stylish chairs. While opposite, there is the chart table with a generous navigational station, with plenty of space for electronics. There is also the option of a foldaway table, al- lowing additional seating.

The galley, one of the largest in this class of yacht, is three metres long, offers generous counter and storage space, along with the possibility of three refrigerators. Located in the most stable part of the boat and close to the companionway, one can cook comfortably even while underway. The use of natural oak throughout, combined with the quality finish and materials Swan is known for, creates a bright and refined interior.

For Model Year 2019 we are pleased to present you the latest features and improvements which have been implemented for interior functionality, that is:

• Aft guest cabin: floor in one level, without any step
• Port guest cabin amidship: increased width of the bed (not for opt centerboard keel solution)
• Enhanced access to engine with one single larger panel on port cabin
• Less intrusive door handles to enhance the space in the passages
• New Fusion stereo with remote bluetooth connection

Bluewater sailing is a concept that encompasses a world of open spaces, far horizons and long distance cruising: in this sense, the Swan 54 is a pure bluewater cruiser. She is conceived to be the perfect boat for extensive living on board, to enjoy the best cruising locations all over the World. The moderate displacement hull and high performance lead keel give the Swan 54 a particularly stable and smooth motion in a seaway. She is fast and powerful in every condition, giving a full sense of safety at the same time. In addition, the high aspect ratio of the rudder provides impressive control, increasing the pleasure of helming. The contained freeboard and deep V hull, ensures smooth sailing in rough conditions and enhance stability at anchor or when manouvering in windy conditions. Sailing on the Swan 54 is a pure joy: cockpit ergonomics and deck gear organization are designed to offer always the most comfortable and well protected position, allowing the helmsman to control every trim in complete autonomy. If your favourite cruising area has shallow waters, the Swan 54 is also available with variable draught (1.40 to 3.70 metres), with an efficient daggerboard and twin rudders. WHAT WE SAY

The Oyster 54 is the worthy successor to the 53, designed with more emphasis on sailing performance and modern styling. The 54 carries more sail on a longer waterline and is lighter, thanks to the use of a cored hull above the waterline and advanced composite engineering. The cockpit area was also increased in size by 25%, greatly enhancing comfort on deck.

Her spacious three-cabin cabin layout, combined with generous beam and headroom, creates a spacious, light and airy living area. The hull meets the deck via a modern superyacht styled rollover bulwark, which gives a clean, contemporary look. Twenty-one were launched between 2008 and 2013, when she was succeeded by the Oyster 545.

Lomac’s Supersize RIB

The Lomac GranTurismo 14 is a superyacht tender that can double as a capable day cruiser. Federico Fiorentino penned this flagship RIB, and the design team used computer modeling to yield a high-performance hull form that’s efficient at all speeds. The twin-shell hull is built from aramid fibers and vinylester resin using a vacuum-infusion process, and it’s finished with neopentyl gelcoat. The RIB carries generous bow and stern sun pads and a cockpit table, as well as a belowdecks space that includes a dinette and an enclosed head.

Whom It’s For: Maxi and superyacht owners who seek a fast, comfortable and fashionable tender that can accommodate 16 people.

Pregnant woman among multiple people killed due to severe weather in the South

Louisiana reported three storm-related fatalities and Mississippi saw one.

Multiple people are dead, including a woman who was nine months pregnant, after severe storms swept through the South, officials said.

Three people were killed in Louisiana -- including the pregnant woman and her unborn child -- due to severe weather on Monday, officials said.

The pregnant woman was killed when a tree fell on her mobile home in Port Allen in West Baton Rouge Parish, the Louisiana Department of Health said Tuesday. Her fetus did not survive and is being counted as a storm-related death, the health department said.

The woman was identified by the West Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office as 31-year-old Kristin Browning. A man and 5-year-old child who were rescued from the wreckage of the mobile home were taken to a local hospital with mild to moderate injuries, the sheriff's office said .

A third storm-related death was reported in Cecilia in St. Martin Parish, where a woman died after a camper rolled over due to high winds on Monday, the Louisiana Health Department said.

Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry said the state saw two storm systems converge Monday evening around St. Martin Parish.

Multiple tornado warnings were issued in the region. The National Weather Service confirmed three tornadoes in Louisiana on Monday -- one rated an EF1 that touched down in Lake Charles and two rated an EF2 in Sulpher and Henderson.

Meanwhile, in Mississippi, one person died in Wilkinson County after severe weather hit the area Sunday into Monday, the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency said. One person in Lawrence County was also injured and multiple homes were damaged in Jefferson Davis, Lincoln and Smith counties, the agency said.

Severe storms on Monday produced at least 130 damaging storm reports from Idaho to Florida. It marked the 19th straight day of tornadoes reported in the U.S.
