How to get from Split to Dubrovnik ? That is one of the eternal questions that we, locals in Croatia get every tourist season. First, I want to say that there are many ways to do it. Consequently, in this article I will focus on how to get from Split to Dubrovnik by ferry. Many times readers place this question on my blog. Sometimes it’s not easy to repeat the same information all the time.

Therefore, I am putting this information together to help you dear traveler! I promise that I will try to be as concise as much as I can. I do this in order to give you a right and distilled information that will save your time.

Split to Dubrovnik Ferry and Catamaran guide – table of content:

1. split to dubrovnik ferry, 2. catamarans from split to dubrovnik, 3. private boat transfers from split to dubrovnik, 5. conclusion.

There is only one company providing ferries in Croatia. Name of this company is Jadrolinija . It is owned by Croatian government. Even though main tourist season in Croatia lasts just for 6 months, Jadrolinija ferries run all year round. Ferries take passengers and cars likewise. However, ferries don’t connect Split to Dubrovnik anymore. This line was discontinued in 2014. With this in mind, we are heading to the second point – catamarans.

Jadrolinija ferries connect Split to many islands in the Adriatic

There are two companies this providing catamaran service, and these companies are:

  • Jadrolinija
  • Kapetan Luka
  • Jadrolinija – I wrote about it earlier in terms of ferry services. This company also offers catamaran service that connects Split to Dubrovnik. Their catamarans hold up to 350 passengers. Also, Jadrolinija catamarans are air conditioned vessels with comfortable airline seats.

Jadrolinija catamarans and ferries provide ecellent connection between Dubrovnik and Split

Jadrolinija catamarans meeting point is in the Port of Split. Here is the exact location of Jadrolinija catamarans that connect Split to Dubrovnik. Ticket price is 220 Kuna per person (approximately 30 Euro) to Dubrovnik each way. You can leave the luggage on the racks that are available once you board the catamaran . So, luggage is not a concern at all. During the ride, catamarans make stops on Brac, Hvar and Korcula islands. This catamaran ride lasts for almost 6 hours.

Please find below Jadrolinija Split to Dubrovnik catamaran schedule for 2024:

Updated Jadrolinija Dubrovnik to Split catamaran timetable

Finally, here is Jadrolinija official web site where you can book Jadrolinija catamarans online.

  • Kapetan Luka – is privately own provider of catamaran services in Croatia. Their services are not available all year round. They operate from 01.04 until 31.10. Therefore you can book them for those dates only. Kapetan Luka catamarans hold up to 440 passengers.

Krilo catamaran is connecting Split to Hvar and to Dubrovnik

Ticket price is 220 kuna per person (30 Euro) to Split each way. As for the luggage is being concerned, you can leave it on the racks that are available once you board the catamaran . So, luggage is not a concern at all. During the ride, catamarans make stops on Brac, Hvar, Mljet and Korcula islands. Also, catamaran ride lasts for approximately 4 1/2 hours.

Please find below Kapetan Luka Split to Dubrovnik catamaran schedule for 2024:

Krilo catamarans offer catamaran services

In the end, here is Kapetan Luka (krilo.hr) offical website where you can book catamarans online.

Both companies ( Jadrolinija and Kapetan Luka ) offer pretty much the same catamaran service to Dubrovnik. You can buy tickets in their booths that are located in the port of Split. However, I suggest you to book the tickets online. After all, this is definitely more convenient and you will skip the lines.

Arrival to Dubrovnik by catamaran

Jadrolinija – their catamarans arrive to Gruz port in Dubrovnik. Here is the exact landing location of Jadrolinija catamarans in the Gruz port in Dubrovnik.

Kapetan Luka – their catamarans arrive to Gruz port in Dubrovnik. Here is the exact Google location of their landing location in Dubrovnik Gruz port.

Catamarans land in Gruz ferry port of Dubrovnik. This is in town, however not in the old town. Ferry port of Dubrovnik is approximately 4 km from Dubrovnik town center. Bus station and taxis are not far from the pier. Therefore, it is very easy to travel to the center of Dubrovnik.

Additionally, here is the link of the local bus provider in Dubrovnik with the timetable of the local buses. You can either buy tickets on a bus or in the bus terminal building. Bus ticket to the old town costs 15 Kuna (2 Euro).

Finally, we got to this part. Private boat transfer to Dubrovnik is, by all means, the most convenient way of traveling in the Adriatic. Therefore, there is also huge demand for this service. Hence, many companies offer this type of service. I have used the services of Atlantis Marine Company many times and I was always happy with them.

However, as I said, there are many companies on the market, supplying these services. Hence, I would recommend you to do your own research on this subject.

Definitely, this is the most expensive way of traveling. You really have to look into it deeply (we all have our budgets, ways of traveling and the idea of a great holiday). Of course, take your time when doing this.

How can I book ferry tickets from Dubrovnik to Split?

Dubrovnik guide.

Located on the Adriatic Sea coast, the Croatian city of Dubrovnik is in the Dalmatia region of the country. The city has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the most visited destinations in the Mediterranean. One of the most popular sites in the city are its walls which stretch for almost 2 km around the city. The walls are between 4 to 6 meters thick on the landward side but are much thinner on the seaward side. The defensive intentions of the wall are characterised by the system of towers and turrets. The city's walls have been a popular filming location for the HBO series Game of Thrones who use the walls as the location for the fictional city of Kings Landing. Also in the city is its Baroque cathedral which was built in the 18th century and contains an impressive Treasury with relics of Saint Blaise. Dubrovnik's Ferry Terminal is located in the Kantafig area of Gruž bay roughly 3 km from the Old Town. All ferries to and from Dubrovnik arrive and depart from here. Destinations served by the port include Bari, Rijeka, Split, Stari Grad, Korcula and Mijet.

Split Guide

The Croatian city of Split is located in Central Dalmatia, on the south western side of the country and has a picturesque setting lying on the shores of the Adriatic Sea. Split is an ancient port city that is centred around large Roman times Diocletian's Palace and has many bars, restaurants and cafes to cater for the large numbers of visitors it welcomes each year. In addition to its huge palace and Old Town which is full of ancient buildings and palaces, the city's harbour setting provides an added bonus for visitors as it provides additional facilities to enjoy. The mountains behind the city provide a lovely backdrop to the city which faces the Adriatic Sea. The city itself doesn't have any beaches but Bacvice Beach is conveniently located nearby and is frequently very busy during the summer months. Other popular beaches are Kasjuni Cove to the west, Zlatni Rat Beach on Brac Island, and Potocine Beach on Bol Island which is also a good destination for windsurfing, scuba diving and sunbathing. Ferries operating from the city's port depart to Ancona, Pescara, Rijeka , Korcula, Dubrovnik and Mljet.

Dalmatian Coast Adventure Dubrovnik to Split (one way) Sailing Holidays

A Croatian sailing holiday is made that little bit extra special when it includes a visit to Croatia's most famous and most beautiful city - Dubrovnik. Dubrovnik is to the far south of Croatia, not far from the Montenegro boarder, and is famous for it's old town with impressive city walls situated right on the Adriatic coastline.

This one-way itinerary will take you through some of Croatia's highlights - a one-way route is generally a great way to see more of a country, although one-way itineraries are only available on request - so please make sure you ask us when enquiring!

Request a charter quote from The Big Sail and we'll recommend the best sailing destinations for you.

DUBROVNIK TO SPLIT, CROATIA SAMPLE 7-DAY ONE-WAY SAILING ITINERARY

Arrival & check-in, aci dubrovnik marina, dubrovnik.

Stock your charter yacht & unpack, then explore this beautiful old town with it’s baroque buildings and ancient city walls. Take the cable car from the back of the town and take in spectacular views from the top, then take a walking tour or simply go up onto the city walls and see the city from every angle. Enjoy dinner with a stunning view over the Adriatic, then explore some the city’s bars & restaurants – many are hidden within it’s walls.

Mljet Island

Situated in the middle of stunning National Park, there are a couple of bays, perfectly situated between Korcula and Dubrovnik. Choose between Okuklje with it’s hidden bay and fantastic restaurant, or Polače/Pomena – both set in the heart of the national park. There is the option to hire bikes and cycle through the national park, and visiting a monastery in the middle of a lake on the island is a spectacular excursion (it’s on an island within an island, which is pretty cool in it’s own right!).

Korčula Town, Korčula

Sometimes referred to as a ‘mini Dubrovnik’, Korčula is a medieval town buzzing with restaurants & bars, on an island known for it’s vineyards and wine production. The marina here is one of the best equipped, with good loos & showers within the marina, and there are some really great restaurant options in town for the evening. If you can find the cocktail bar situated on top of an old castle turret then you’re in for a treat! Be warned though, you have to climb up a ladder to get up there – it’s often easier to get up than get back down!

Vis Town, Vis

Vis is one of our favourite places to visit – a little quieter than nearby Hvar or Split, it offers the chance to explore hidden beaches, caves and even an abandoned submarine base. You need to arrive early (by 2pm) as it gets busy in June to mid-September, so if you’re running behind schedule or just fancy a slower-paced day maybe head for the Pakleni islands instead where you will find an abundance of spots to drop anchor in all wind directions.

Anchor for the night, Pakleni Islands

There are so many bays and inlets on these largely uninhabited islands and they make the perfect place to drop anchor and cook dinner onboard under the stars. If you fancy a fully serviced marina instead, book a berth in ACI marina Palmizana, or another great option is to secure a buoy in the bay of Vinogradišće on the south side of the island chain (opposite Palmizana), where there is a great choice of restaurants on shore which you can easily reach by dinghy.

Well known for it’s beautiful architecture as well as it’s vibrant nightlife – this stunning island town rarely disappoints. Climb to the old fortress above the town for spectacular views, then sip cocktails at one of the many waterfront bars before enjoying one of the finest meals in Croatia. If you’re still going after all that – dance the night away at Kiva bar or Carpe Diem Beach Club. If you’re after somewhere a little quieter try Stari Grad on the north coast of Hvar island, but there’s lots to do for everyone of all ages in this busy, vibrant town.

Day 7 (Option 1)

The biggest and most vibrant destination on this route, Split is a busy tourist destination in it’s own right. The old town is steeped in history, with winding narrow streets and traditional restaurants hidden round each corner. Visit the Diocletian’s palace in the heart of the old town, walk around the maze of streets and try not to get lost! Alternatively you can end this itinerary in Trogir (see below).

Day 7 (Option 2)

As an alternative final destination to Split, some one-way charters end in Trogir, just along the coast from Split. If you have a preference between Split or Trogir we will make sure we book you a yacht which ends in your preferred destination. Trogir is a lovely and historic town with UNESCO World Heritage status. The old town is actually a tiny island accessible by bridges, and is full of independent shops, restaurants & lively bars, so it’s a great place to spend a night!

How to get from Dubrovnik to Split?

If you are a foot passenger , there is a fast ferry catamaran that departs from April to October daily from  Dubrovnik (port of Gruz) to  Split . This is the fastest and most convenient way to travel. The alternative is the bus ride, in operation all year round. If you are driving and plan to use a car ferry, there are  no direct car ferries  between these two cities. You would need to drive along the coast and across the Peljesac Bridge all the way to Split.

4 Ways to get from Dubrovnik to Split

Views from the fast ferry from Dubrovnik to Split

The distance between Dubrovnik and Split across the sea is 165 KM (or 89 nautical miles). The easiest and most pleasant way to travel is by fast passenger ferry (catamaran). Here are the details:

Dubrovnik to Split by Foot Passenger Ferry (Catamaran)

Schedules, tickets, booking.

Departures*: High season: April (June) to (September) October

Krilo (Kapetan Luka), TP Line, and  Jadrolinija  are the three companies that run passenger ferries from Dubrovnik to Split. All depart ferries from the same spot in the ferry terminal in Dubrovnik (see map here and photo below) and arrive in the Split City port. For detailed ferry timetables check with croatiaferries.com

  • Step 3: Drive to Split either via E65 and D8 roads or along the coast (Jadranska magistrala)

By this shortest and fastest driving route, you can reach Split from Dubrovnik in 3.5 hours. Traveling on this route your driving time will be:

Driving tip

Due to Peljesac Bridge roadworks, for the time being, the Ston to the Prapratno crossroads section of the route (about 8 km) may take a bit longer than usual. Update: This part of the route is now completed!

Dubrovnik to Split by Bus

If you prefer to travel by bus, you can get a bus to Split several times per day. The bus departs from Dubrovnik’s bus terminal and drives to Split, stopping along the way in numerous smaller places. Buses are fairly frequent in tourist season, while out of season, there are just a couple of buses per day. It takes over 4 hours (depending on the route) to reach Split. The current ticket cost is about 24 Euros one way ( see timetable and prices )

By Taxi, Uber, or Private Car Transfer

A  taxi ride between Dubrovnik and Split  lasts just under 3.5 hours including crossing the Peljesac bridge. The current price quoted to me is 350 Euro. The quote from UBER is 320 Euro (see photo/map below). This is a good option if 3 to 4 people travel together and share costs.
