Together with the very similar Gib’sea 38, this somewhat unusual-looking Joubert-Nivelt design comes from the very beginnings of Gibert Marine. She was offered as a ketch or sloop and with six berths in three cabins. (The 38 managed nine berths in four cabins.) Headroom wasa miserly 6ft and the general level of equipment was low. However, the galley was effective and she had a reasonable navigation area.
LOA 37ft 5in (11.4m) LWL 31 ft 2in (9.5m) beam 12ft Sin (3.8m) draught 6ft (1.8m) displacement 12,090 Ib (S,495kg). Price guide : £50,000 to £53,000.

The Gib sea 37, should you opt for the old or the new one? When it comes to the Gib Sea 37, we should talk about the 2 very different boats that have suceeded each other in the Gibert Marine range. The first version, produced from 1974 to 1981, was a sister ship of the Jeanneau Gin Fizz designed by Joubert and Nivelt. Such similarity is easily explained when you find out that Olivier Gibert, the founder of the shipyard, is none other than Henri Jeanneau's son-in-law.
Like its cousin from Vendée, the Gib Sea 37 is designed for long-distance family cruising and has earned a solid reputation as a great traveller. This boat with its central cockpit was most often rigged as a ketch, which allows for a good division of the sail plan. It's a sturdy boat, that likes being at sea and is safe in bad weather.
When Dufour bought Gibert Marine, he kept the Gib Sea brand for a while and asked J&J Design to design a new 37 footer. The brief was to fulfil the needs of renters as well as private individuals. The new Gib Sea 37 was designed with 3 cabins (2 aft cabins), or 2 cabins, with a large aft cabin and a large sail locker. With its sloop rig and aft cockpit, the Dufour Gib Sea 37 is more modern in its lines and fittings than her predecessor. Of course, travel purists are nostalgic about its big sister's split rigging and the particularly generous sampling on the first models.
