jervis bay cruising yacht club

Jervis Bay is recognised as one of the best sailing venues in Australia and worldwide. The waters are a pristine Marine Park. There are virtually no navigation hazards and boat traffic is light. The oval shaped bay is 15 km (7 nautical miles) long and 8 km (4 nautical miles) wide. Depth ranges from 10-20 m over most of the bay. The enclosed bay is partially sheltered, but southerly swells enter the bay and wind driven waves increase the excitement when racing. The winds are generally steady and persistent throughout the year, with 15-20 knot NE winds a feature during summer. Winds are generally around 10-15 knots on most days, less during Spring and Autumn. There is no better place to sail on Earth than Jervis Bay, and the club provides a friendly environment to enjoy all its attributes.

All off-the-beach dinghies and catamarans and small Trailer Sailers are welcome. The current fleet includes: Spirals, Lasers, NS14s, a Contender, a Finn, Tasars, an Alpha Omega Cat, Hobie Cats, Paper Tiger Cats, a VS 15 ft Skiff, a Hunter 216, and various other sailboats and catamarans. The Fleet of Sailboats at the Callala Bay Sailing School, which sometimes sail in the races, include: Pittwater Junior Sailboats (6), Manly Junior (9), Laser (2), Heron (1), de Havilland Vagabond (1), Swiffie 10 Dinghy (1). A Flying Ant (1) and Sabot (1) are also available. So come and join the fun of mixed fleet racing on magnificent Jervis Bay.

We are located near the Callala Bay Boat Ramp. The street address is 42 Boorawine Terrace, Callala Bay, NSW 2540 , at the end of the road leading to the boat ramp. The club is approximately 3 hours drive south of Sydney and NE of Canberra.

We conduct three series throughout the season (see Program for course details)

  • Championship (scratch start).
  • Sprints (scratch start).
  • Pointscore (handicap start).

In addition to our regular series, we conduct a number of   Special Events throughout the season. Please see the Program for details of our schedule throughout the year.

The Jervis Bay Cruising Yacht Club Inc. (JBCYC) was formed in 1970 by a small group of yacht owners and sailing stalwarts who were keen to add a racing component to their cruising of the magnificent clear Jervis Bay waters.

Since its formation the JBCYC has run an annual programme of Spring-Summer-Autumn mixed fleet races and a small fleet cruising programme which includes an annual Jervis Bay to Ulladulla cruise in Easter.

The JBCYC also incorporates into its calendar a regular social component of post race gatherings & BBQs, occasional social outings & raftups and an annual Christmas Party & Presentation Evening.

The club is noted for its friendly, welcoming & informal style which complements the casual lifestyle of the Jervis Bay and South Coast area.

Race meetings are mostly on each second Sunday from September to June with race briefings occurring on the Sunday morning of the race at 9.30 am at the Callala Bay reserve. Races usually commence at 10.40 am.

Boat: Swarbrick 40
to JB on the 12th of April and unfortunately due to commitments I will need to be back in by the evening of the 16th at the latest.
Providing the is kind we should have no problems. But, if it turns on us I was hoping for a plan B.
I am looking for someone with some local knowledge about where it may be passable to moor my for about 4 days somewhere in Jervis Bay.
I know there are a couple of public moorings around but they are usually limited to 24 hours.
My yacht is 40ft and weighs in at about 12 tons.
Any help would be much appreciated.

is 2m, I could probably get in there but it does not leave much room for maneuvering so it scares me a bit. You also need to be lined up perfectly with the marks on the way in or you will be thumping a very hard bottom.

I have looked at a more up to date chart which shows allot of public moorings both on the North & South of the Bay. The main problem will be the time that I am away from the as I am shore that most of these moorings will have a 24 hour limit.
I suppose the next question might be to inquire about the fines for overstaying on them. I would need at least 3 days.

Boat: between boats
at either hole in the wall or long beach (honey moon bay will be out with your draft) - just check the for the days you will be away and take your pick on which side of the bay will suit conditions. (beware to get a good hold at hole in the wall though - drop into one of the sand patches to the east of the moorings)

great spot this time of year - enjoy!

to a sailing club in JB but so far haven't had a response, so I will try again.
Thanks again for the info.

Is the creek at Husky too shallow? I remember a Swanson 42 moored up there? Just curious, I have no intention of venturing up there.

Any idea on what the predominate winds are in April?

Thanks
Jeff

predicition isn't all that good, though it's much better than in years passed. If you can arrange a beforehand, then yes, good, leave it there. But otherwise, plan to sail her back to in Sydney, perhaps via Gibbon Beach, if you need a sleep. There are no all-wind in Jervis Bay for your and our vessels, unless you've an in with the .

.
All of the crew are planning to sail to Lord Howe Island later this year, so this sail is actually more about the sail down the coast than the .
Jervis Bay is an old favorite of mine which I know reasonably well from when I used to do allot of and I have also spent a week or so sailing around her on my old 22ft TS. I don't want to leave her there and fully intend returning to Sydney with time to spare weather depending.
This is my plan B and it sounds like it has to be a mooring.
Plan C will be Port Stevens.
Plan C/D Pitt
Plan E Sydney Harbour.
Thanks Simon for the Number I will be giving him a call.
I may be able to leave someone on Board.
AnnT Cate. Leaving the boat on the hook scares the hell out of me.

Thanks for all the great . I will take a look into Greenwell point, Thanks.
