2Pac Tupac Shakur 20 Years jeopardy

Lionsgate has acquired the U.S. rights to the Tupac Shakur biopic “All Eyez on Me” and will release it on the late rapper’s birthday on June 16, TheWrap has learned.

The Morgan Creek Productions project will tell the life story of the rapper, who died September 13, 1996, six days after being shot multiple times in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas.

“All Eyez on Me,” which takes its name from Shakur’s 1996 album, stars Demetrius Shipp Jr. as the rapper, Danai Gurira, Kat Graham , Jamal Woolard, Dominic L. Santana, Lauren Cohan and Grace Gibson.

The movie is produced by Morgan Creek’s James G. Robinson and David Robinson along with Program Pictures’ LT Hutton. It was directed by Benny Boom.

Tupac sold over 75 million records worldwide — on April 7, the rapper will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The deal was negotiated for Morgan Creek by David Robinson and Jessica VanderYacht; David Nochimson of Ziffren Brittenham; and Glen Mastroberte of Latham & Watkins. For Lionsgate, the deal was negotiated by Jason Constantine, Eda Kowan, John Biondo and Elizabeth Hopkins.

Morgan Creek Productions said today that Voltage Pictures will handle foreign rights to the Tupac Shakur biopic  All Eyez on Me , starting this week at AFM in Santa Monica. C urrently in post-production, All Eyez on Me  chronicles Shakur’s life and legacy, including his rise to superstardom as a hip-hop artist and actor, as well as his imprisonment and prolific, controversial time at Death Row Records, where he was steeped in the East Coast/West Coast rap war. Production in Las Vegas and Atlanta wrapped in the spring.

The feature is written by Jeremy Haft & Ed Gonzalez and Steve Bagatourian, and is directed by Benny Boom.  All Eyez on Me  stars newcomer Demetrius Shipp Jr as Shakur, Danai Gurira as Afeni Shakur, Kat Graham as Jada Pinkett, Annie Ilonzeh as Kidada Jones, Lauren Cohan as Leila Steinberg and Jamal Woolard as Biggie Smalls. James G. Robinson and David Robinson from Morgan Creek are producing with Program Pictures’ LT Hutton.

Voltage Pictures President and COO Jonathan Deckter said in a statement: “Benny and the team have made a highly stylized, emotional, entertaining and relevant film which Voltage looks forward to bringing to the international community and the legions of Tupac fans worldwide. In addition, I couldn’t be happier to work with Jim, Brian, David and my friends at Morgan Creek again.”

Added Morgan Creek Managing Director Brian Robinson: “Jonathan Deckter and the team at Voltage have the same passion in selling this film as we had in making it.  We’re extremely excited to have them on-board.”

Following a star-studded ceremony featuring a performance from Andra Day and hosted by Queen Latifah , Usher was honored with 2024 President’s Award, which recognizes figures for their special achievement and distinguished public service.

In the film and TV portion of the awards, Abbott Elementary won big, picking up several awards including outstanding comedy series and a trophy for outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series for William Stanford Davis.

Volleyball Solidifies Recruiting Class With Four Additions

Vikings bolster roster with the addition of two outside hitters, setter and middle.

6/22/2021 3:35:00 PM

BELLINGHAM, Wash. –   Western Washington University head volleyball coach   Diane Flick-Williams   rounded out her 2021 recruiting class with the addition of four players that recently signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Vikings beginning in 2021.

Outside hitters   Janelle Grant   (Bellevue, WA) and   Anna VanderYacht   (Lynden, WA) are joined by setter   Adele Holland   (Puyallup, WA) and middle   Asia Stewart   (Federal Way, WA). The four new signees join three players that committed to the Vikings during the early signing period in November 2020.

WWU's seven-player recruiting class features four outside hitters, two middles and one setter, and are set to join the program in August when the team reports for the 2021 season. The Vikings return 13 players from the 2020-21 season that featured a 9-2 record during the abbreviated spring season.

The four program additions to the recruiting class complete the 20-player roster for the fall season that is scheduled to open with the three-day WWU Volleyball Invitational held September 3-5 on WECU Court in Carver Gym. All seven players in the 2021 recruiting class hail from the state of Washington, continuing a tradition that has seen every recruit during the Flick-Williams era come from the Evergreen State.

"The 2021 class has it all...versatile hitters, great ball handlers, focused students, and family first chemistry." Said   Flick-Williams , who enters her 22 nd   season as WWU's head coach with a 460-112 all-time record. "With such a large class, it was important for us to find people who not only believed in tradition but wanted to leave their own stamp on it. The ceiling is high for this talented group and based on the bonds they have already started forming, it will be an awesome gym environment when they get here."

The Vikings enter the 2021 season as the three-time Great Northwest Athletic Conference champions (2017-2018-2019) and have a current streak of advancing to the NCAA Division II Volleyball Championships in each of the last eight seasons.

Here is a look at the complete seven-player recruiting class and info on the four new signees.

JANELLE GRANT    »   Bellevue, WA    »   Bellevue High School    »   Sudden Impact

Grant is a physical outside hitter that prepped at both Pusch Ridge Christian Academy in Tucson, Arizona and finished her prep career at Bellevue High School. She was a four-year varsity letterwinner in high school and a captain for Pusch Ridge in 2019-20. As a senior she averaged 2.83 kills per set and tallied 16 service aces and as a junior in 2019 she earned first-team all-conference and all-region honors. In Arizona she was a Southern Arizona Volleyball All-Star selection as a freshman and sophomore. Grant is a product of the Club Cactus (4 years) and Sudden Impact (2 years) club programs. A recipient of the Hunter Simpson Scholarship in 2021, Grant is interested in pursuing a degree in Biology at WWU.

Flick-Williams on Grant:

"Janelle's physicality is very impressive. She can get off the floor quick, hits a fast ball, and creates problems for opponents' hitters with her block. While her physical ability is what caught our eye initially, getting to know her sealed the deal. Janelle is a top-notch person, thoughtful in her decision making and a constant learner...we love that."

Grant on joining the WWU program:

"Being a fairly new resident to Washington, I was unsure of what my future in college would look like. This uncertainty led me to seek out guidance from my teachers, coaches and former/potential students at WWU. All spoke great things about Western and its atmosphere. I was grateful to be able to meet the volleyball team, which played a big part in making my decision. Seeing the outcome of former players and students makes me feel thankful to be part of this program. I felt so welcomed at WWU when I visited and I look forward to continuing my academics and athletics as a Viking."

ADELE HOLLAND    »   Puyallup, WA    »   Puyallup High School    »   North Pacific Juniors

Holland is 5-8 setter that earned four varsity letters and was a team captain at Puyallup High School. Holland helped lead the Vikings to a 15-0 record during her senior season, which resulted in her being selected as the South Puget Sound League co-MVP and   The Tacoma News Tribune   All-Area Player of the Year. During her junior season she was an honorable mention All-State pick, first-team all-conference as was a member of the   Tacoma News Tribune   First Team All-Area squad. During her last full season in 2019 as a junior, Holland racked up a PHS single-season record 1,110 assists, 24 blocks and 237 digs. During her four-year prep career she tallied 2,750 total assists, second-most in Puyallup HS history. Additional honors earned included the state championships sportsmanship award in 2017 and 2018, two MaxPreps/AVCA Player of the Week honors and the Tacoma Athletic Commission Fall Athlete of the Year Award in 2020-21. She played club volleyball for North Pacific Juniors (2020-21) and Lake Tapps Volleyball Club (2015-2020). Holland was also the PHS DECA president and plans to pursue a degree in business administration or marketing at WWU.

Flick-Williams on Holland:

"We look for three things when recruiting a setter: technique, tactics and leadership. Check, check and check for Adele. While the first two are obviously important, it is Adele's connection with the people around her that set her apart for us. She puts in the work to get better at her craft so she can be better for her teammates. How can you not love that?"

Holland on joining the WWU program:

"The reason I chose to come here is because WWU has it all! A great coaching staff, and amazing family atmosphere with the team, and great academic programs! It was also my mom's alma mater, so that was a bonus!"

ASIA STEWART    »   Federal Way, WA    »   Federal Way High School    »   Puget Sound Volleyball Academy

Stewart is an athletic 6-1 middle that was a three-year captain at Federal Way High School. Playing under former Viking Donja Walker, Stewart was a three-time 4A North Puget Sound League selection, including earning first-team honors as a junior in 2019. Stewart was voted by her teammates as the most inspirational award winner as a junior and most improved as a senior, while playing on three league championship teams. She finished her prep career as Federal Way's all-time and single-season leader in blocks. Stewart played club volleyball for Puget Sound Volleyball Academy. She graduated with honors and is interested in a field of study at Western in pre-law.

Flick-Williams on Stewart:

"Asia is an imposing player at the net. She has a nose for the ball to put up a solid wall and hits a heavy ball. When you add her physical skills to her commitment to family, she is perfect fit for our program. I'm excited to get her in our gym and watch her flourish."

Stewart on joining the WWU program:

"I never used to see myself being able to play a sport in college, but when I joined volleyball it became a passion for me to play at the next level. I strived to be the best player I could be and now I can call myself a Viking. I can't wait to join the pack."

ANNA VANDERYACHT    »   Lynden, WA    »   Lynden High School    »   Washington Volleyball Academy

VanderYacht is a local product out of Lynden High School that starred for the Lions in multiple sports. The 5-10 outside hitter was a four-year varsity letterwinner in volleyball, helping lead Lynden to the 2019 Northwest Conference title and a pair of state runner-up finishes in 2017 and 2018. During her prep career she set LHS career records with 183 service aces and 773 digs, while also setting the single-season record with 80 aces as a junior. Additionally she finished her high school career with 725 kills and 53 blocks. A two-year captain for the volleyball team, VanderYacht earned a pair of All-State awards as a sophomore and junior and was a three-time All-Northwest Conference selection. VanderYacht was also a standout basketball player for LHS as one of the top defenders in the state and was a member of the 2019-20 state championship team. She comes from a family with strong ties to WWU, with her great uncle (Rick) playing football for the Vikings in the 1970s and mother (Missy) playing volleyball at Western.

Flick-Williams on VanderYacht:

"Anna is a flat-out athlete who loves the grind of sports. She plays every point, every play with everything she has to give. Anna can deliver a shot at the net, and on the flip side, she can take a shot from an opponent. She only knows one way and that's to get after it."

VanderYacht on joining the WWU program:

"WWU is the perfect fit for me academically and athletically because they have the quality secondary education program. I love the family culture and the competitiveness of the volleyball program. It's a humbling and unreal feeling to be a Viking. I have watched their success over the years and I know Diane and James have high expectations and standards for the program."

Congratulations to the people and shows that won awards.

Abbott did really well, deservedly so. Lots of shows and movies I really enjoy. Really glad some of these actors are getting recognition like Adrian Holmes, he is brilliant in Bel Air.

Why is Chris Brown still celebrated? The guys deserves to be forgotten.

Congrats to everyone except him.

The fact that the one award win revealed on the pre-show was for him shows BET still loves him and loves to shove him down our throats like he’s still a hot authority in music. He’s not. Stop it, BET; y’all are embarrassing yourselves.

Also, congrats to all of the other winners; an incredible year for entertainment all around.

Big flower fight: who is kristian griffith-vanderyaucht.

Kristen originally came on to Big Flower Fight as a highly successful florist in the industry. He offered contestants knowledge in plants and business

Big Flower Fight  is the newest reality competition that features seasoned artisans utilizing their honed crafts to create floral masterpieces. Likewise, the show recruited their own floral master sculptor, in Kristen Griffith-VanderYacht, to judge the rag tag group of flower connoisseurs who appeared on the show.

Kristen added to one of the many exuberant elements on the series. He emphasized to the contestants in each competition that he wanted to see colorful extravagance in their garden sculptures . The contestants learned quickly that what Kristen really was looking for is an exuberance of floral color exhibited within their designs. Being the master sculptor that he is, Griffith-VanderYacht was tasked to create the baseline example sculptures for each of the competitions. These projects ranged from a garden sculpture rendition of Kristen's dog to extravagant floral masterpieces , such as his purple flowered dress. With clear cut talent as a sculptor and florist, Kristen has a highly esteemed background in the industry.

Kristen originally grew up in Detroit and honed his floristry craft tending to his mother's garden. While gardening, Kristen claims to feel   "rooted in something very true to [himself]."  In 2011, Kristen turned his passion for flowers into a wildly successful business. He currently runs the company Wild Bloom Floral which is based out of Seattle. Wild Bloom creates extravagant floral arrangements for weddings, events, and workshops. The company has even catered for the wedding of famous actress Julianne Hough.

Kristen was originally chosen as the show's lead judge due to his success in the floral industry. Originally, it is rumored that the show reached out to Kristen via Instagram direct messages. Kristen claims to have received the initial message to appear on the show while dropping off his adopted baby boy at day care. He states to have immediately pulled into a Starbucks parking lot,  "Because they have that good WiFi, and you can't mess around with WiFi. I didn't even know what I was auditioning for. Then I heard back maybe two weeks later, they're like, 'Okay, we would like you for this project.' And I was like, "Well, what's the project?" And they're like, 'It's for Netflix.' And then my wig blew off."  Much like his business Kristen's Instagram is a floral masterpiece and it's likely probably blew the producers "wigs off" as well. He posts frequently showing off beautiful floral arrangements and catered events of which his business has amplified.

Since appearing on the show, Kristen is now enjoying a celebrity status that has not only catapulted his fame in the florist industry but also his business. Kristen's flowers have been featured in major publications such as  Martha Stewart Weddings ,  The Knot ,  Traditional Home Magazine , and  Good Morning America . Most notably, his flowers for the Julianne Hough wedding were featured on the cover of  People Magazine . As a judge on the show he states that he hoped to set a good example for other upcoming florists hoping to make it in to the industry. Fans can check out more of Kristen Griffith-VanderYacht on the artistic, new gardening show  Big Flower Fight .

Big Flower Fight Judge Kristen Griffith-VanderYacht Wants to Get Back to the Dome

"It feels like you're stepping into the Secret Garden, " he says.

netflix

  • On the show, teams of floral designers are challenged to create elaborate structures made of plants.
  • In an interview with OprahMag.com, Griffith-VanderYacht opened up his career, the show, and what he really thinks of the contestants stealing flowers.

Mary Berry. Ru Paul . Simon Cowell. When it comes to reality competition shows, the judges, with their idiosyncratic personalities and catch-phrases, are as important as the talent. As judge of The Big Flower Figh t on Netflix, acclaimed florist Kristen Griffith-VanderYacht, 36, joins that lauded set—but only he knows how to construct a giant recreation of a miniature Schnauzer, made entirely of long grasses (watch the episode "Huge Hairy Beasts " to see the installation in all its glory).

"It's more than just shoving flowers into a vase," Griffith-VanderYacht, the owner of Seattle's Wild Bloom Florals , whose arrangements have been featured in celebrity weddings and on magazine covers, tells OprahMag.com of The Big Flower Fight .

That's an understatement. On The Big Flower Fight , 10 teams of two are challenged to create elaborate floral installations, ranging from life-size couture dresses made of cut flowers to super-sized insects crafted with living plants. Along with a guest judge, Griffith-VanderYacht crowns one winning team, and eliminates another.

kirsten griffith vanderyacht

Griffith-VanderYacht's involvement with The Big Flower Fight started with an Instagram DM. "It was probably the most nontraditional route a person could take to getting on television," Griffith-VanderYacht jokes.

The Seattle native was dropping his baby son off at daycare when he got a message on Instagram about a mysterious TV project. Griffith-Vanderyacht pulled into a Starbucks parking lot, "because they have that good WiFi, and you can't mess around with WiFi," and had a 10-minute video call with strangers.

"I didn't even know what I was auditioning for. Then I heard back maybe two weeks later, they're like, 'Okay, we would like you for this project.' And I was like, "Well, what's the project?" And they're like, 'It's for Netflix.' And then my wig blew off," Griffith-VanderYacht says.

While The Big Flower Fight came out of nowhere, Griffith-VanderYacht has been "planting the seeds" (sorry!) for a similar opportunity for years, thanks to his illustrious career in the floral industry.

preview for How to Arrange Flowers in 3 Easy Steps

According to Wild Bloom Floral's website , Griffth-VanderYacht's flowers have been in major publications across the US, including Martha Stewart Weddings , Traditional Home Magazine , and The Knot , and seen on Good Morning America and E! . His flowers for actress Julianne Hough's wedding were featured on the front cover of People .

Wild Bloom Floral is the culmination of Griffith-VanderYacht's lifelong love of flowers. Growing up in Detroit, he spent summers tending to his mother's garden in their large backyard. "I was like, yes, this is amazing! I get to play in the dirt, and pull stuff out. Little did I know it was manual labor," he says with a laugh.

While gardening, Griffith-VanderYacht says he feels "rooted in something very true to [himself]." In 2011, Griffith-VanderYacht took steps to turn his lifelong hobby into a career. "I had never really known anything about the professional side of floristry. So, I allowed myself to really just get into it and observe and read and research and play. That was probably the biggest gift I could have given myself... the opportunity to play with flowers, because through that, I discovered my own voice," he says.

As a judge, Griffith-VanderYacht hopes to be an example for other aspiring florists, especially those of color.

"I want it to be a really good representation, not just on the show, but in my everyday life, of Black excellence, and what it means to be a person of color that other little kids can look up to and say, 'Wow, I didn't know that it could be cool to be a florist!' I didn't get to have that as a little kid. It was something that I had to discover," he says.

There's one child that Griffith-VanderYacht thinks of, especially: His son Hugo, whom Griffith-VanderYacht and his husband, Aaron, adopted back in June 2019 .

"I take that role incredibly seriously, not only for myself, but also for my son. He has the rare and very singular opportunity to grow up having two parents of very different races and very different cultural backgrounds. And so I want him to experience and understand the richness and the dichotomy of both of those worlds," Griffith-VanderYacht says.

In addition to raising his son, Griffith-VanderYacht hopes to have more "flower babies" in the future, too. When asked about challenges that didn't make the season, he's reluctant to give them away.

"I'm not going to tell you because I'm hoping they'll be in season 2, if we get one," he says.

For now, The Big Flower Fight 's eight-episode first season is worth watching for Griffith-VanderYacht's jewel-toned suits, coordinated especially for the challenges, and for his commentary, which is as colorful as the flowers themselves. One particularly memorable zinger? Griffith-VanderYacht staring at the droopy face of a lion statue, and saying: "I asked for character . I did not ask for sloppy ."

While always honest, he tempers his pronouncements with kindness and genuine awe. Even now, he speaks of the contestants' accomplishments with pride. "I feel like those teams are all my babies. They're my flower children," he says.

With that sentiment in mind, he's a mentor first, and a judge second. As the teams build their structures, Griffith-VanderYacht gives restrained pointers (and occasional side-eye).

"When it was appropriate, I would give them advice. Other times, like any parent, you have to let your kids experience failure in order to learn. But it was tempting to go and help," he says.

From his position on the sidelines, Griffith-VanderYacht also bears witness to the small spats that put the "fight" in The Big Flower Fight , like when Irish team Eoghan and Declan stockpile all the tall grasses to prevent others from using it, or when Yan and Henck steal mirrors.

"Even the stealing is a little tongue in cheek. It doesn't even feel like, Ooh, I'm out to get you . It's more like, I'm just being competitive. It's all in good fun," he says.

flower fight

Being an observer, not a participant, had another perk: While the participants sweated in the humid dome, where the installations were constructed, Griffith-VanderYacht could appreciate its beauty—then get fresh air.

"You can get transported walking into the dome. It feels like you're stepping into the Secret Garden. It's like you're going from black-and-white into Technicolor. You are Dorothy coming out of her house and walking into Oz," he says. He can't wait to get back to the dome—and neither can we.
