“The way we design, is we design fully custom, fully unique yachts, we start with a blank piece of paper and we start asking the client how they use the boat, what they want to do on board, what kind of experience they have but we also want input on what kind of styling they like... It’s about getting to learn about the owner and how they want to use the boat.” - Ronno Schouten, Design Manager of De Voogt Naval Architects
Designed by De Voogt Naval Architects with an interior by Terence Disdale, the 39-metre Ocean Mercury has a distinctive Feadship design, with continous lines and clear and smooth details. Taken as a whole, they give this family yacht a powerful and dynamic appearance. Ocean Mercury ’s window sections are well-proportioned and reinforce the timeless design. A wide beam and full-width bridge deck allow for a surprising amount of room, which is deployed to the max in an open and flexible layout.

Words: Jonathan Wells There’s something about billionaires and big boats . Whether they’re superyachts or megayachts, men with money love to splash out on these sizeable sea-going giants. [email protected] 60 Grosvenor Street London, W1K 3HZ ![]() The superyacht trends to look out for this year From extended excursions to embracing the Metaverse, the superyacht industry is emerging from troubled waters to bring a new wave in ocean lifestyle. We head to Monaco to navigate the most important trends for 2023 ![]() The superyacht industry hasn’t had an easy year, with multiple vessels linked to Russian oligarchs being sanctioned and urgent calls for greater sustainability among its challenges. But, proving yachts are as invincible as they are utterly glamorous, the tide is changing. This year’s Monaco Yacht Show, themed “seducation” (education and seduction), showcased more than 100 superyachts including the stunning new 62 metre RIO designed and built by CRN. Alberto Galassi, CEO of Italian ship builder Ferretti Group (which include CRN and Riva, among other yacht brands), revealed a major “boost” in client interest and says the company is set to end the year on a 50%-plus high. While many shipyards predict 2023 will be the most lucrative yet. What’s next in the world of superyachts? Here, with the help of key industry experts, we reveal the top yacht trends being floated for the year to come. ![]() New technologiesIn 2023, we’ll see iPad-controlled lighting and sound systems as standard. Cloud-based platforms will replace piles of paperwork when it comes to itinerary planners, navigational software and security systems. The metaverse is being embraced with yacht-specific NFTs, cryptocurrency and marketing campaigns devised using VR and AR to attract younger owners and offer something completely new. Alberto Galassi, CEO of Italian shipbuilder Ferretti Group shares his view: “This is something that cannot even compare with the pleasure of living, touching, owning, sharing and enjoying a real yacht. How can you own something that doesn’t exist? I’m an old dog, but even I am waking up to this technology and 3D parallel worlds are going to become our reality. We will use this technology to show the product off and reach potential owners earlier in their life.” Lifestyle trendsCovid-19 has made a huge impact on how yacht owners use their vessels, with longer periods of time now spent at sea and a greater desire for freedom and privacy. Alberto Galassi amplifies this sentiment in saying owners and potential owners have realised the value of a yacht as their own “private island”. People want office space with lightning-fast wifi, but also space to entertain and a master bedroom with acoustic privacy. Brand new yachts for next year will also feature fold-out sea terraces for ample sunbathing space. On experiential travel Friso Visser, CCO of Heesen, says: “Over the past four years, we’ve also seen an increase in interest for crossover yachts that can take owners and their guests further away from the Mediterranean and Caribbean shores to the adventurous waters of the Arctic Ocean or the Galapagos islands. Experiential travel is a growing market so we have partnered with Winch design to create a yacht that has all of the luxury amenities you would expect from a Heesen yacht, combined with the power of an all-terrain yacht. Our newest concept, XV67, will offer the best of both worlds.” The Unique Burial of a Child of Early Scythian Time at the Cemetery of Saryg-Bulun (Tuva)<< Previous page Pages: 379-406 In 1988, the Tuvan Archaeological Expedition (led by M. E. Kilunovskaya and V. A. Semenov) discovered a unique burial of the early Iron Age at Saryg-Bulun in Central Tuva. There are two burial mounds of the Aldy-Bel culture dated by 7th century BC. Within the barrows, which adjoined one another, forming a figure-of-eight, there were discovered 7 burials, from which a representative collection of artifacts was recovered. Burial 5 was the most unique, it was found in a coffin made of a larch trunk, with a tightly closed lid. Due to the preservative properties of larch and lack of air access, the coffin contained a well-preserved mummy of a child with an accompanying set of grave goods. The interred individual retained the skin on his face and had a leather headdress painted with red pigment and a coat, sewn from jerboa fur. The coat was belted with a leather belt with bronze ornaments and buckles. Besides that, a leather quiver with arrows with the shafts decorated with painted ornaments, fully preserved battle pick and a bow were buried in the coffin. Unexpectedly, the full-genomic analysis, showed that the individual was female. This fact opens a new aspect in the study of the social history of the Scythian society and perhaps brings us back to the myth of the Amazons, discussed by Herodotus. Of course, this discovery is unique in its preservation for the Scythian culture of Tuva and requires careful study and conservation. Recently Sold At Auction![]() ![]() TestimonialsDon’t just take our word for it. I recently used Boathouse Auctions to sell my 50′ Sport Yacht. A unique boat that had proved difficult to move. I found Jack and his people to be among the most professional and efficient people I have dealt with over my 40 year career in the boating industry. Excellent communications, advice, and execution. 50' Maverick 2022 My experience with Boathouse Auctions was excellent. The process went smoothly with very good communication along the way. The auction really sought to get the best price for my yacht. Such good organization and process. I highly recommend Boathouse Auctions. 77’ Goetz Carbon Sloop 2013 My decision to bring Boathouse Auctions into the traditional yacht marketing program was a great one. In less than 5 weeks, we had over 35 prospects, multiple bidders, and a deadline that created a sense of urgency that helped us quickly close the sale of our yacht at a price we were very pleased with. 44' Little Harbor Whisperjet 1999 Pacific Provider was on the market for quite some time. We recently reduced the price significantly but still this generated little solid interest. Engaging Boathouse Auctions was a key strategic decision. It shifted leverage from the buyers to the seller as it created a deadline and a sense of urgency. We received multiple pre-auction offers and sold Pacific Provider prior to the auction. 157' Blount Marine 1978 As a seller, the lack of a pending event plus the extended due diligence a buyer requires creates a buyer-advantaged process. Boathouse Auctions has successfully and politely modified the approach to bring this archaic process into the 21st century. I am thrilled with the result. 75' Molokai Strait 2006 As the carrying costs of larger yachts can be significant, days on market are costly. By offering Altitude Adjustment II through Boathouse Auctions, the finite timeline of the auction process serves as a motivation to prospective buyers and as an asset to owners in terms of time and cost savings. 106' Broward 2006 I praise Boathouse Auctions for leading me to the successful close of the boat I’d never before considered. 58' Vicem 2004 By submitting this form, you agree to our Terms of Service .
