Founded Year
North Cove Yacht Club is located in North Cove at the mouth of the Connecticut River in the town of Old Saybrook. The club was created in 1968 by a small group of yachtsmen whose hailing port and homes were in Old Saybrook. The object of this club shall be to encourage the sport of yachting, to promote the science of seamanship and navigation. and to provide and maintain a suitable Club House and other facilities for the recreation and use of its members. In promoting the science of seamanship, we offer both member and non-member adult and junior sailing instruction. This is also a great way to meet our members as we are always open to new recruits. There are about 130 family and individual members who share a love of boats (power and sail), the sea, and the resulting social environment. They energetically volunteer their time and effort to maintain our facilities.

Business name : North Cove Yacht Club
For some years prior to 1968 the lack of a bona fide yacht club at the mouth of the Connecticut River seemed incongruous to a small but enthusiastic group of yachtsmen whose hailing port and homes were in Old Saybrook. The group was convinced that the area’s waterfront facilities which included a number of boat yards, marine services, a fine harbor of refuge, and a strategic location close to Long Island Sound, could not fail to win support for an association of their fellow yachtsmen.
The group had in mind an organization devoted to encouraging the sport of yachting, promoting the science of seamanship and navigation, and provision of a clubhouse for the recreation and use of its members.
The original founders of the club were J. Whittier Anderson, Everett A. Cooper, Edward W. Hildreth, and Robert B. Wright—all residents of Old Saybrook in the North Cove area.
On March 15, 1969 the first organizational meeting of the North Cove Yacht Club was held at the Old Saybrook Town Hall. Sixty-six individuals responding favorably to an invitation to membership prior to the meeting were designated charter members. By-laws were adopted and officers elected.
One of the first decisions of the Board of Governors was to join the North American Yacht Racing Union (now the United States Yacht Racing Union) as well as the Eastern Connecticut Yacht Racing Association and to participate, together with more than twenty other clubs in the area, in its Handicap Racing Program. The Club’s first invitational race in that program was held in June, 1969.
In 1970 two tracts of lands were purchased by the founders for subsequent sale to the Club. A capital assets fund was established the following year for that purpose and for the development of the property as soon as funds were adequate. By the end of 1971 the Club had acquired eleven new members and the capital assets fund had grown enough to purchase the land and to begin its development.
From 1972 to 1974 membership grew slowly but steadily. In 1974 the Finance Committee submitted a plan for development which included a time table for membership growth, construction of a bulkhead and a clubhouse, and landscaping. A construction loan was obtained, permitting construction to begin during the early spring of 1975.
The dedication of the clubhouse was celebrated September 20, 1975. Among the distinguished guests were the First Selectman of Old Saybrook, the Commanders of the local United States Coast Guard Auxiliary and the United States Power Squadrons, and the Commodores of neighboring yacht clubs. It was a truly memorable occasion with more than 300 persons in attendance.

On behalf of the management and staff, we would like to welcome you to North Cove Marina at Brookfield Place. The marina was completely renovated in 2016 and the previous infrastructure has been replaced with new floating docks and additional amenities.
Ideally located in the heart of one of the most famous cities in the world, and in the shadow of the Freedom Tower, the marina offers more than just a place to berth your boat. Its unparalleled location is ideal for exploring New York City and taking advantage of all that this vibrant city has to offer.
The marina itself is conveniently nestled within Brookfield Place, which has been extensively refurbished and is now one of New York’s premier shopping and dining destinations offering an unbeatable retail experience.
Do not be afraid to ask if there is anything that we can do to make your stay with us more memorable. We hope you enjoy the marina and all that New York City has to offer.
Yours Sincerely,
Michael Revier – Marina General Manager
Arrival Information Details
Advanced reservations are strongly recommended at North Cove Marina at Brookfield Place. Slips are not guaranteed without a confirmed reservation. We ask that you provide advanced notice, when feasible, of your approximate arrival time so we can be fully prepared for your arrival and minimize any inconvenience to you.
Please Note: Captains and his/her assignee must check-in/check-out with the marina office for each stay unless otherwise arranged with marina management.
When feasible, we request an estimated time of arrival 24hr in advance so we can be fully prepared for your arrival and minimize any inconvenience.
Upon approach, please contact the marina office on VHF Channel 16 to obtain directions to the slip assignment. A skilled dock attendant will report to the slip to assist with docking, line handling, and connections. Once comfortably settled, we ask that you visit our marina office to check-in. The staff will answer any questions you have.
Upon departure, we request you contact the marina office 1-2 hours prior to departure to ensure all items are in order. A receipt can be provided at the marina office or emailed upon request to the email address provided at the time of check-in. If all items are in order, please hail the marina office on VHF Channel 16 if you would like assistance with disconnection and lines.
Early Check-in / Late Check-out
If a slip is occupied after 12:00 pm on the day of your scheduled departure, an additional night’s dockage will be charged to your account.
We will do our absolute best to accommodate your requests whenever possible. In most cases, if your slip is available prior to 11:00 am on the day of your arrival, or after 12:00 pm on the day of your departure, we will allow you to remain in the slip at no additional charge. Prior arrangements must be made with the marina office for early arrival or delayed departure in order to avoid unnecessary charges.
Temporary Slips
In the event an early check-in and/or late check-out is unable to be accommodated in your currently slip, we will try to accommodate by making another slip available until such time your slip is available or you are ready to depart the marina.
In the event a temporary slip is made available to you, and you do not relocate the vessel, the marina reserves the right to charge you two times (2x’s) the original daily rate for each night you occupy the temporary slip.
This is necessary as at times, the marina operates at full occupancy and failure to relocate the vessel could negatively affect other guests.
Cancellation Policy
• Reservations cancelled 60 days prior to arrival shall receive a full refund less a 5% deposit processing fee.
• Reservations cancelled 59-14 days prior to arrival shall receive 50% refund of initial deposit.
• Reservations cancelled within 14 days of arrival forfeit deposit.
• Notice of early departure must be given 7 days prior to amended departure or full dockage fees will apply.
• IGY reserves the right to change rates without notice.
Please note: Cancellation policies are subject to change. Please refer to your reservation confirmation or contact the marina office direct for confirmation of cancellation policy. Cancellation requests must be submitted directly to the marina. Any cancellation requests received through the IGY Marinas website are not considered proper cancellation.

Inspire Giving through You – June 9, 2018
North Cove Marina at Brookfield Place worked with FoodBank2Go in order to help pack boxes of food to be distributed by FoodBank2Go trucks. Boxes were packed in the sailing school classroom allowing for crew who couldn’t commit to a day long event, but could come help pack on their lunch breaks or in between charters. Teams competed to see who could pack the most boxes. 4000 meals worth of food in 400 boxes were packed and delivered to community centers in the Bronx in one day!

Coalition for the homeless: camp homeward bound.
Thank you to all volunteers that participated in the “2017 Inspire Giving through You”. For 2017, North Cove Marina at Brookfield Place, Newport Yacht Club and Marina, and the IGY Corporate team in New York, worked with Camp Homeward Bound . The team was very excited to work with the counselors to prepare the camp grounds, cabins, and activities for the campers arrival!
Camp Homeward Bound is the nation’s first summer sleep-away camp designed specifically for homeless kids. The camp site is located at Harriman State Park in Upstate New York.
Every summer, Camp Homeward Bound holds three 16-day sessions with 100 campers per session. Campers range in age from seven to 15, with older kids able to return as Counselors-in-Training and Junior Counselors.
Camp seamlessly blends engaging activities that foster literacy, problem-solving and critical thinking skills with active, recreational fun like hiking, swimming, sports, dance and so much more.
Goals for this year:
- Clean-up & set up of the camp
- Organize materials & supplies
- Minor upgrades & repairs around the facility
IGY Marina staff and volunteers donated their time in helping get the camp ready for the campers. This has been a fun team building activity for staff and is also of course a very rewarding experience for all who participated.
If you were unable to attend our day of community service, but would still like to help, please feel free to donate directly to the organization. Monetary donations can be provided through the Coalition for the Homeless’ Donations Page and food and clothing donations can be sent to: 129 Fulton Street, New York, NY 10038.

North Cove Marina Rules
To make your stay with us more enjoyable, the following set of guidelines should be followed. These are merely suggested rules of etiquette and regulations to make the Marina and its facilities more enjoyable for all customers.
- Do not leave garbage on the docks or common areas to be picked up. Garbage should be bagged and tied and then properly placed in designated receptacles, or be placed in the garbage truck, not loosely scattered or abandoned.
- Oils and fuels should be disposed of properly and not in Marina trash cans. Please ask for assistance when disposing of oils, fuels, or chemicals. Your concern for the environment helps.
- Try not to introduce any effluents into the Marina lagoon. Use holding tanks if possible.
- Do not attempt to turn on your own water and electricity. Please have a dock attendant provide the service. Using pliers or screwdrivers will damage the equipment and you will be charged. It is suggested that you read meters (if applicable) along with our dock attendant to ensure accuracy.
- Anyone caught taking water from another yacht’s tap shall be responsible for the entire water cost of the metered yacht. Please use your own water.
- Keep power cords and water hoses in a neat and orderly fashion so that no one will trip in the dark or while carrying objects.
- Please wash sails on lawn areas where water outlets and drying spaces are available, or do it aboard your yacht.
- When marking anchor chains with paint, use paper or cardboard beneath your chain to keep wet paint off the docks and other customers’ shoes.
- When cleaning dinghies, make sure you rinse debris and growth off of the docks when finished.
- Lock the vessel when leaving it unattended.
- Lock your dinghies and outboard at night.
- Try to keep excessive noise down after 10:00 pm.
- Do not utilize power sanders or grinders while completing minor vessel repairs.
- Barbecue and cooking on the docks is prohibited. Barbecue and cooking should be done on board in suitable equipment and self contained. Any other way is dangerous and frowned upon. Kindly clean up after yourself when finished. Charcoal ash and debris are not to be disposed of into the lagoon.
- If bright deck lights or spot lights are to be used at night, avoid pointing them at nearby boats, especially down or into their cabins.
- Pets need to be kept on a leash or in an acceptable carrying case. Please be sure to clean up after your pets. Owners will be responsible for any damages caused by unattended pets.
"This is the best marina in Manhattan! Great location and the staff is very accommodating."
"Making arrangements is very easy. Eric welcomed us at our slip. Everyone was well-informed and professional."
