Call ahead and your boat is in the water, ready to go. Upon return the boat is washed down by TIYC staff and returned safely to it’s home in the stack.
The TIYC clubhouse and pool with a great view of the waterway are fabulous and ready for your family to enjoy. Part of your group may be on the boat while the others are enjoying the pool and clubhouse. Work racks on ground level are available on site for boat cleaning and routine maintenance on a first come first serve basis. Use of TIYC amentities are subject to compliance with club rules and regulations.
The slips offered for sale or rent are the last large block of slips that will become available at the TIYC. Interest in slips and the ease of boating at the TIYC has increased dramatically over the past few years. Current demand far exceeds slip availability. The slip waitlist grows longer every year. Individual owner slip sales take place from time to time but these occur infrequently. The slips being sold are privately owned, not owned by the TIYC.

Welcome to Surf City Yacht Club
Thank you for your interest in the Surf City Yacht Club where our members enjoy sailing, power boating and social activities at our beautiful facility on Barnegat Bay in the heart of Surf City. Our club is located on the bay between 8th and 9th streets and is one of the most prestigious yacht clubs on the east coast.
History of SCYC
Our history relates back more than 100 years when, in 1894, a group of young men got together and created an informal organization to promote aquatic sports. As the group grew, it became known as the Surf City Yacht Club and in 1940 the Club was formally created as a non-profit organization.
By 1954, with its membership roll at 82 members, the first clubhouse was constructed and the club has continued to grow since. Our members share the love of sailing, power boating, community and friendship with fellow members, their families and friends. Read More
Sailing and Boating
Our club offers an excellent junior sailing and waterfront program designed with both the beginner and experienced young sailor in mind. It is one of the best in the nation. Experience sailing instructors conduct the program from late June until mid-August each year and junior members learn sailing techniques, safety and sportsmanship.
Young members can also learn to swim and join our swim team; we also offer a program for the very young—our BayKids program is for children from 3 to 6 years old and is offered 3 mornings per week. And if you’re interested in becoming a sailor, we offer adult sailing instruction as well. Read More
Youth Programs
We have a beautiful waterfront clubhouse. Standing on our deck overlooking Barnegat Bay and watching some of LBI’s famous sunsets is a benefit that is hard to take for granted.

Surf City Yacht Club
About 1894 a group of young men, who vacationed regularly or lived in Surf City on LBI created an informal club for the promotion of aquatic sports. Over the years these young men, joined by others from time to time, continued their interest despite wars, depressions, and hurricanes and became known locally as the “Surf City Yacht Club”.
In 1936, because bay front lots were being developed, it was decided to “acquire something of a more permanent nature”.
In 1937 lot 36 fronting south side of 9th street were purchased for $200.00.
In 1938 the lot was bulkhead and made fit for use.
In 1939 lots 34 and 35 were acquired expanding their space. These lots eventually became what is the marina today.
In the summer of 1940 it was decided that a formal organization be continued, so on Sept 26, 1940 the Surf City Yacht Club was duly incorporated as a non-profit club under the laws of New Jersey. By-laws were created and Officers elected. The first Commodore was William Lohr; Vice-Commodore was Edward Neill; Secretary-Treasurer was W.H. Jones; and Dockmaster was Joseph Tressel.
From 1941 to 1946 because of war restrictions and the Hurricane of 1944 very little was accomplished.
In 1947 a sailing division of the club was organized by then Surf City Councilman Richard W. Warren Sr. There were 27 sailboats and they would gather at the cove between 15th and 17th Streets (Now part of Surf City Bay Beach) to hold races.
In 1952 as the club grew larger and with a membership of 82 members, it was decided to acquire two additional lots with riparian rights between 9th and 10th Streets. All the while the races were being run from the John Elfman Sr. property located on 15th Street in Surf City. This is where the old original club house was first located as a gathering point for the sailors.
In 1954 a club house was built on the lots between 9th and 10th Streets and is where the present day Surf City Yacht Club resides with the South 9th Street lots comprising the marina.

On the Water
At the Carolina Yacht Club, members enjoy a unique location with access to the sound and the ocean. That means there is always something to do in, on, or near the water!
Grab your kayak or SUP and launch from either side of the club. Almost every day you’ll find fellow members paddling into the marshes or surfing the waves. If you’re interested in paddling, join the CYC kayaking community and connect with fellow paddlers.
It’s hard to beat a low-tide sunrise surf at CYC. Before the beach wakes up, members are shredding the waves. When the waves are right, they'll soak it up until the sun goes down. Join with fellow members who live to surf in the Watersports group.
Sneak into the back water for reds and flounder, cast into the surf, or troll just beyond the breakers for spanish and king. When the wind lays down, you can head to the Gulf Stream. Grab some friends and bring back your catch to enjoy at the club.
The Carolina Yacht Club was founded on a shared love of sailing. You'll find kids in Optis, friends in Flying Scots and friendly competition in Lasers/ILCAs, Lightnings, Sunfish and 420s.
