Read more about the Ionian Islands:
The name refers to the islands in the Saronic and Argolic Gulfs, and these are the islands closest to Athens. Perfect if you’re short of time or don’t want to stray too far from the airport.
Islands : Salamina, Aegina, Agistri, Poros, Hydra, Spetses
Highlights : The Temple of Aphaia at Aegina. The car-free streets of Hydra and Spetses Town. Watching the ships pass Poros Town. Hiking on Hydra. Pine forests and snorkelling on Poros and Agistri.
Best for : proximity to Athens. You don’t have to go far to feel the island vibe. Otherwise known as ‘the ones near Athens’, these islands are often skipped by visitors making a beeline for the Cyclades but less than an hour from Piraeus you can find pine-covered islands, ancient temples, pistachios, and some good beaches. The islands popular with weekending Athenians and yachties – Aegina and Hydra both have a lively nightlife in the summer months.
Need to know : Most of the ferry connections are high speed ferries – either hydrofoils or fast catamarans. There are no car ferries to Hydra at all. This is great news if you like to travel fast, but not so great if you’re prone to seasickness. Poros is just 200m from the Greek mainland at its closest point and is connected by a bridge, so is ideal if you’re worried about rough seas. Hydra and Spetses are the priciest of the islands.
Visit three islands in one day : The best way to see a lot in a short time is the One Day Island Cruise . It runs every day of the year and is one of the most popular day trips from Athens, stopping at Hydra, Poros and Aegina. It departs at 8 am and includes live music and a buffet lunch. Island stops are between 1-2.5 hours and there are extra excursions available at Hydra and Aegina.
Or if you prefer to escape the crowds there’s a One Day Sail to Aegina, Agistri and beautiful little Moni Island during the summer.
Route | Distance | Fast Ferry Time | Cost | Slow Ferry Time | Cost |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Athens - Aegina | 18 miles | 40 mins | €16.50 | 1 hr 20 | €9 |
Athens - Hydra | 46 miles | 2 hrs | €35 | - | - |
Aegina - Poros | 29 miles | - | - | 1 hr 20 | €10 |
The most famous of the Greek island groups, the Cyclades are will fulfil all your romantic notions of a Greek vacation. Most tourists head straight to the most popular islands of Santorini and Mykonos, but there are plenty more islands to spread out and find your own piece of paradise.
Islands : Amorgos, Anafi, Andros, Antiparos, Delos, Ios, Kea, Kimolos, Kythnos, Milos, Mykonos, Naxos, Paros, Folegandros, Serifos, Sifnos, Sikinos, Syros, Tinos, and Santorini.
Tiny Islands : Koufonisia, Donousa, Iraklia, Schoinousa, Antiparos, Kimolos, Thirasia.
Highlights : Santorini’s iconic caldera villages, fancy nightlife on Mykonos, budget nightlife on Ios, the ancient island of Delos, handsome neoclassical Ermoupoli on Syros, whitewashed villages on Paros, volcanic rock formations on Milos, hiking on Andros, food on Serifos, the laid-back beaches on Naxos, a mini island hop around the Little Cyclades.
Best for : The famous vistas of white sugar-cube buildings , white sandy beaches, rugged barren landscapes, beach bars, easy island-hopping, jaw-dropping sunsets, hedonistic pleasures, scootering around to remote beaches, tiny white churches.
Airports : International – Santorini and Mykonos, domestic – Naxos, Paros, Syros
Need to know : Santorini and Mykonos are considerably more commercial and expensive than most other Greek islands, and heaving with tourists in the summer, but you will find the best hotels and clubs in Greece in both destinations. I recommend combining them with at least one quieter island to get a feel of real Greece – Paros and/or Naxos are perfect.
Route | Distance | Fast Ferry Time | Cost | Slow Ferry Time | Cost |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Athens - Santorini | 162 miles | 4 hrs 30 | €84.70 | 8 hrs 5 | €51.50 |
Athens - Mykonos | 46 miles | 2 hrs 25 | €60 | 4 hrs 20 | €35 |
Santorini - Mykonos | 90 miles | 2 hrs | €89.20 | 3 hrs 25 | €59 |
Naxos - Paros | 12 miles | 30 mins | €28 | 1 hr | €13.50 |

Crete is such a large island that it deserves its own section – it’s the fifth largest island in the Mediterranean.
It’s also a popular destination thanks to its beaches and history – it was home of the Minoans (the earliest known civilisation in Europe), and there are buildings from Venetian, Byzantine and Ottoman rule.
Resorts line the north coast which is well developed and easy to travel. The south is more remote and wild, and the two sides are divided by mountains. The tackiest beach resorts (and loudest nightlife) are on the coast around Heraklion. The west is probably the most beautiful part of the island and ideal for independent travel.
Tiny Islands : Gavdos, Spinalonga, Dia, Chrysi, Paximadia.
Famous bits : The ancient Minoan Palace of Knossos. Beautiful Venetian cities Chania and Rethymnon. Walk the Samaria gorge. Lagoon beaches at Elafonisi and Balos – 2 of the best beaches in Greece – plus palm trees at Vai, and hippie vibes at Matala, and the Archaeological Museum in Heraklion.
Best for : Variety, incredible beaches, food, hiking, remote mountain villages, ancient palaces, traditional music, marine life, quiet plains, long summers and mild winters.
Airports: There are international airports at Chania, Heraklion, and a smaller airport at Sitia.
Ports: The main ferry ports are at Chania, Heraklion, Agios Nikolaos and Sitia, with some ferries also departing from Kissamos and Rethymnon.
Need to know : Crete is so large that you’re better off treating it as a separate country when it comes to planning – it’s too big to cram the whole country into a short visit. Best to stick to one area. There are good public transport connections along the main towns of the north. From the main towns, you can catch buses south. The main ferry connections to other islands are Kythira, Santorini, Karpathos and Rhodes.
Route | Distance | Fast Ferry Time | Cost | Slow Ferry Time | Cost |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Athens - Chania | 171 miles | - | - | 8 hrs | €46 |
Athens - Heraklion | 211 miles | - | - | 9 hrs | €34 |
Heraklion - Santorini | 63 miles | 1 hr 50 | €78.70 | - | - |

Main Islands : Astypalaia, Kalymnos, Karpathos, Kastellorizo, Leros, Nisyros, Patmos, Symi, Tilos, and Rhodes.
Tiny Islands: Agathonisi, Pserimos, Chalki, Arki, Kasos, Telendos, Marathi, Lipsi.
Highlights : Rhodes and its medieval old town. Beautiful neoclassical towns on Symi, Chalki and Kastellorizo. Rock climbing on Kalymnos. Crusader fortresses on Rhodes, Kos and Patmos. The volcanic landscape of Nisyros. Sandy beaches on Rhodes and Kos. The whitewashed hilltop Chora on remote Astypalea.
Best for : A variety of historic and geological influences. A good mix of popular and under-the-radar islands. Golden beaches and gulet trips in turquoise waters. Island hopping over to Turkey. Less crowds than the Cyclades (except Rhodes).
Airports . Kos and Rhodes have international airports. Karpathos, Leros and Kalymnos have domestic airports.
Need to know : Party fiends will find their flavour on Rhodes and Kos, where package tourism prevails (but it’s still easy to get off the beaten path). Patmos is the boutique capital of the group, with smart restaurants and a serene vibe thanks to its religious legacy (the Book of Revelation was written here). The ferry journey to Athens is long so consider booking a cabin or catching a flight.
Route | Distance | Fast Ferry Time | Min. Cost | Slow Ferry Time | Min. Cost |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Athens - Rhodes | 348 miles | - | - | 15 hrs | €65.50 |
Kos - Rhodes | 61 miles | 2 hrs 5 | €32.50 | 3 hrs 45 | €23.50 |
Rhodes - Symi | 28 miles | 1 hr | €8 | 1 hr 20 | €10.80 |

Charming and evergreen, the Sporades (meaning ‘scattered’) islands are situated north of the Cyclades. Largest island Skiathos is a prime destination for summer holidays thanks to its gorgeous sandy beaches and lively nightlife. Scenes from the film Mamma Mia were filmed on Skiathos and Skopelos, which have boosted the popularity of the area.
Not far from the Sporades is Evia – the second largest island in Greece, and one of the least known (this is because you might mistake it as part of the mainland unless you’re looking closely at the map). It’s separated from the mainland by a small strait.
Islands : Skiathos, Skyros, Skopelos, Alonnisos, Skyros (although you can only get there via Evia)
Highlights : Skiathos Town. Snorkelling in Alonnisos National Marine Park. The famous beaches of Vromolimnos, Koukounaries and Lalaria on Skiathos. Skopelos Town. Ayios Ioannis Kastri (the hilltop church from Mamma Mia). Dhimosari Gorge and the paradise beaches of Lichadonisia on Evia.
Airports: Skiathos has an international airport. Skyros has a domestic airport.
Best for : Mamma Mia fans, sailors, outdoors lovers and beach bums. Green islands, clear seas, great beaches, cute monasteries, and a smattering of lovely hiking trails. Skyros and Evia are quiet and mostly domestic tourists, alternative types and wild campers.
Need to know : Skiathos and Skopelos are pretty close together – it’s easy to hop between them and nearby Alonnisos too.
But the Sporades are difficult to combine with other islands. Ferries to the Sporades are from Volos, which is a 2hr drive from Athens – although most agents sell tickets which include the bus to Volos. The ferry to Skyros departs from Evia.
Whilst you’re in the area, don’t miss the stunning Pelion Peninsula on the mainland.
Route | Distance | Fast Ferry Time | Cost | Slow Ferry Time | Cost |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Volos - Skiathos | 32 miles | 1 hr 40 | €41 | 2 hrs 45 | €24.50 |
Skiathos - Skopelos Town | 26 miles | 15 mins | €14.50 | 1 hr | €13.50 |
Skopelos - Alonissos | 15 miles | 20 mins | €12 | 30 mins | €8 |

Not so much a chain of islands, as the collective name given to the remaining islands in the Aegean Sea. The long travel times involved in reaching these islands from Athens means they’re a bit more off the beaten track. A bit more rustic. Chios, Lesvos and Samos have ferry crossings to Turkey.
Islands : Chios, Ikaria, Forni, Lesvos, Lemnos, Samos, Samothraki, Thassos, Psara
Highlights : Mytilene in Lesvos, Marble Beach on Thassos, the patterned village of Pyrgi on Chios, Ikaria’s unique summer festivals, the sweet wines of Samos and Lesvos, hippie vibes on Lesvos and Samothraki. The towns of Pythagorion and Vathi on Samos. The strange Fascist utopia of Lakki, built during Italian rule.
Best for : Escaping the crowds. Alternative and slow travel, agritourism, and discovering foodie delights, waterfalls and a traditional way of life.
Need to know : Their dispersed nature means some planning is required for island hopping as ferry connections are not all that frequent in comparison to other island groups.
Route | Distance | Fast Ferry Time | Cost | Slow Ferry Time | Cost |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Athens - Lesvos | 253 miles | - | - | 13 hrs 45 | €43 |
Kavala - Lesvos | 191 miles | - | - | 10 hrs | €28 |
Samos - Chios | 63 miles | - | - | 2 hrs | €10.50 |

The best time of year for Greek island hopping is May to mid-July, and then again in September. Mid-July through to the end of August is crazy busy and crazy hot. Accommodation and ferries book up due to the number of foreign and domestic tourists on their summer breaks.
Greek Orthodox Easter usually signals the start of the tourist season in Greece (you can check the dates here ), and it winds down again in October as soon as the weather starts to change.
In the low season, ferries are less frequent and there can be a surprising amount of lashing wind and rain. Also, many hotels and resorts shut down completely and become ghost towns over the winter. But if you have time and flexibility on your side then island hopping during the off-season can be a great way to experience the islands at their most authentic.
Check out this post for more information on visiting the Greek islands over autumn and winter:
To understand the Greek ferry system, you must first understand the hub and spoke system.
Imagine a bicycle wheel. At the centre of the wheel is the hub (Athens), and going out in every direction from the hub are spokes (ferry routes).
This is because ferry routes are geared to local needs which generally means travelling to Athens and back, or to the local administrative centre.
Each island group has one or two mini-hubs, these tend to be larger islands with good connections to the surrounding islands.
For the easy and reliable island hopping, pick several islands along one car ferry route. This is easiest in the Cyclades.
It’s possible to hop between Crete, the Cyclades, and the Dodecanese, particularly in the summer, although these ferries are not necessarily daily. Otherwise, there are few connections between island groups and you may have to backtrack via Athens, either by ferry or plane.
Some places that might be considered mini-hubs are:
The islands closest to Athens tend to have frequent fast ferry connections.
If you want to buy your tickets in advance, or just check the ferry schedules, you can use the Ferryhopper website or app to purchase electronic tickets.
If you’re already in Greece, you can buy ferry tickets from any travel agent.
This is approximately every third shop front in some parts of Athens. It’s not really worth shopping around, you’ll pay pretty much the same everywhere as prices are regulated by the government. Travel agents will add on – at most – a couple of euros commission, and quite often none at all, so that’s the most you’ll be able to get the tickets down.
If you know exactly which ferry you can also book directly on some ferry websites. The websites are of varying quality but special offers can sometimes be found.
Some of the smallest local routes aren’t online and you’ll have to check locally.
In general, no.
These days I tend to buy my tickets a day or two in advance using Ferryhopper or through a local travel agent.
There are a few situations where I recommend you buy your ferry tickets in advance:
There are plenty of online booking platforms where you can check ferry schedules and book tickets. I find Ferryhopper is the easiest to use.
Ferry schedules are usually published a few months in advance, and vary year-to-year.
You can compare routes, ships, and travel times.
Here are some islands which are easily combined:
Wondering if there’s such a thing as a ferry pass? Yes! There is a little-known Greek Island Pass which is offered by Eurail / Interrail (and you don’t need to go anywhere near a train).
Interrail is for EU citizens, Eurail for those from outside the EU. There are further discounts for youth and senior (with youth generously categorised as up to 27).
Also known as the Greek Island Pass , Rail & Sail , or the Attica Pass , this has existed since 2016 and is valid for most routes operated by Superfast Ferries/Anek Lines/Blue Star (the big car ferries). Plus it gets you a 30% discount on any additional journeys.
I think this pass can a good option if you’re flexible and planning to do some extensive island hopping BUT definitely check it’s worth it for route you have in mind. Many of the Cyclades routes are now operated by Seajets which are not included in the pass.
If you’re planning on taking two or more medium-long distance journeys on the car ferries then it’s worth checking out.
Prices are for deck tickets:
You will still have to pick up your boarding passes, subject to availability.
Read more about the Greek Island Ferry Pass (including a comparison with single tickets).
Fancy exploring the Greek islands but don’t want to do it on your own? The good news is there are plenty of organised tour options, whether you’re solo or in a group.
Here are some of the most popular.
BEST BUDGET/PARTY GREEK ISLAND TOURS
BEST MID-RANGE TOURS
Of course, the best way to see the Greek islands is by sea – and sailing on a yacht means you can access tiny coves, bays and marinas that would otherwise be difficult to reach. Plus, you get to spend your days drifting along in the wine-dark sea rather than scrambling to catch buses or taxis.
Sailing trips in the Greek islands have really exploded in popularity of the past few years. Previously the domain of exclusive charters, exploring Greece on a yacht is more accessible now more than ever. There are numerous companies offering sailing experiences where you share the boat or cabin with other travellers.
I love sailing and truly think it’s the best way to see this beautiful country. But it’s not for everyone. It’s hot and space is at a premium. Yachts vary a lot in comfort and amenities. Best to consider it an adventure. Pack light, stay flexible, and do your research on what’s involved before booking.
Cabin charters in Greece:
If sailing doesn’t appeal and you’d rather not have to keep packing/unpacking then consider a small ship cruise. Much better than the large cruise ships in terms of environmental and social impact, small ships can also visit smaller harbours that are out of reach to the bigger ships.
Note that for 2022 some international routes are restricted and will have different entry requirements to domestic ferries.
The Greek islands with ferry connections/border crossings to Turkey are:
*high season only
Go to sleep in Italy and wake up in Greece (I’ve done this – it’s great).
International ferry routes to/from Italy include:
There are currently no direct ferries to/from Croatia. You can travel via Italy or Albania.
Check Ionian Seaways for schedules.
For booking accommodation, I recommend Booking.com for the largest selection of places. It also has a free cancellation policy. There are many family-run guesthouses in Greece called domatia which are increasingly using booking platforms.
It’s not a good idea to turn up without accommodation booked during high season. Outside the July-September peak you might be able to find rooms by asking around in cafes and tavernas. It’s rare these days to find people offering rooms as you disembark the ferry, everything has moved online over the past few years.
Bear in mind that accommodation on really small islands can be very limited and so book up quickly.
You can check this list of national holidays in Greece.
The best resource is Strikes and Work Stoppages which covers ferries and port workers as well as public transport.
If you’re prone to seasickness then choose the larger, slower car ferries which will move less in the water and which have open decks for you to walk around and look at the horizon. Anti-seasickness medication can also help.
Don’t forget your travel insurance, and make sure that your insurance covers any adventures activities that you might do (including watersports).
UK readers – I recommend using Money Saving Expert to find the cheapest cover.
Many visitors to Greece skip through Athens quickly in their rush to visit the islands.
I think this is a great shame – Athens is one of my favourite cities and I reckon it needs a minimum of 2 days. In the summer it’s a hot and busy city; not pleasant to rush around despite the relatively small size of its centre. It is atmospheric and fascinating if you can slow your pace down a little
Here are some of my top tips for Athens:

Understand the differences between high and low seasons when renting a catamaran in Greece. The high season, from June to August, offers warm weather and lively island vibes but comes with higher prices and more crowds. The low season, from April to May and September to October, features milder weather, fewer tourists, and potentially better deals. Choose based on your preference for atmosphere and budget.
Consider weather conditions for the optimal Greek catamaran charter experience. Summer months ensure warm temperatures and ideal sailing conditions, with gentle winds and calm seas. With the summer holidays on the horizon, why not consider a trip to the magnificent Greek islands? Chartering a yacht for a private cruise and island hopping is one of the most enjoyable experiences you can ever have. You can explore some of Greece’s beautiful coastlines from your own boat, but you’ll also be able to visit remote islands as well as much-loved tourist spots. Greece’s stunning scenery, rich history, safe environment, great culture, and irresistible cuisine make it the perfect destination for an unforgettable summer holiday. With this helpful guide, you’ll be able to make the most of your Greek island-hopping yacht-holiday and enjoy a truly unique experience.
Greece is one of the best places in the world for island hopping. With over 6,000 islands and islets scattered around the Aegean Sea and the Ionian Sea in close proximity, Greece has no shortage of beautiful coastlines and secluded coves to explore. The crystal-clear waters, picturesque harbors, and stunning beaches make the perfect backdrop for a yacht charter holiday. Plus, the Mediterranean climate makes it ideal for sailing and lounging in the sun with temperatures rarely falling under 18°C in Spring and Autumn, and well above 25°C in Summer. Whether you’re looking for a romantic retreat or an invigorating adventure, there’s something for everyone in Greece. Finally, the sailing culture of Greeks can make your Greek island hopping charter an even more enjoyable experience. From friendly locals to enthusiastic skippers, you’ll be able to explore the captivating shores of Greece with professionals that know the waters like their own back yard.
The Cyclades are the most famous group of Greek islands and one of the best destinations for a sailing holiday. These islands are located in the center of the Aegean Sea and they are known for their beautiful beaches, picturesque villages, fascinating archaeological sites with ancient ruins, and lively nightlife. Island hopping here is a real adventure, full of surprises and you can easily sail from one island to the other in a day. The relatively small distances between the islands means that you don’t have to spend too much time sailing from one island to the other. Instead, you can spend more time enjoying the breathtaking views, crystal-clear waters, and beauties each island has to offer.
Keep in mind though, that the weather tends to be quite windy during the summer months, so you should take this into consideration when making your plans. Also, the fact that many of these islands are famous and popular, may lead to overcrowding in the heart of summer.
The Ionian islands are located in the western part of Greece and they offer a different kind of experience. With their world-famous turquoise beaches, tranquil seas, and lush green nature — these islands are perfect for those who wish to relax and explore the beauty of Greece. From secluded coves to wild mountain trails, Ionian islands have something for everyone. A yacht charter is one of the best ways to explore these islands and discover their hidden gems. Whether it’s sailing around Lefkada, discovering the beauty of Corfu, or exploring the serene island of Zakynthos — a yacht charter provides the perfect opportunity to travel in this beautiful part of Greece.
The Dodecanese islands can also offer an unforgettable experience. These islands are known for their unique architecture and interesting history, as well as their rugged beaches, and unspoiled nature. There are plenty of activities to indulge in on these islands, such as exploring the medieval castle of Rhodes, visiting the monastery of Saint John in Patmos, or tanning on one of the many beaches of Kos. A yacht charter allows you to explore the Dodecanese in a relaxed and comfortable way. There’s also the opportunity to discover some of the smaller islands that are often overlooked by large tourist crowds, making it a perfect option for those who seek small-crowd locations.
The Sporades islands are renowned for their peaceful ambiance and stunning natural beauty, offering the perfect escape to a sailing enthusiast. This is the perfect destination if you prefer secluded places without the large flocks of tourists that tend to arrive during the summer months in Greece. You should expect a truly local experience accompanied by heartwarming Greek hospitality. The Sporades are generally an easygoing destination. However, keep in mind that Skiathos island offers a more vibrant nightlife that attracts a lot of younger people. If you prefer serenity, focus on the islands of Skopelos, Alonissos, and Skyros instead.
The Saronic islands are the perfect location for those who are looking for a combination of cosmopolitan vibes and yacht culture. Located close to Athens, this area offers a good mix of both nature and island life. A yacht charter here will give you access to some of the most beautiful islands in Greece such as Aegina, Poros, Hydra, and Spetses. Hydra is especially popular among those looking to relax, as it’s the only island in Greece where cars are forbidden. Island hopping in the Saronic Gulf can be actually quite cheap compared to other regions in Greece, especially during the off-season period, since it’s close to Athens (lower cost for fuel) and the majority of the islands are comparatively close to each other.
Other destinations in greece to choose from.
Visiting Greece you’ll find out that there are countless places to choose from and you should not limit your options. Other popular sailing locations with a yacht include:
Crete is the largest island in Greece and one of the largest in the Mediterranean. Located in the southernmost part of the Aegean, Crete is a paradise for those looking to sail with a yacht. Its rich history is unlike any island in Greece and that is also true about the local cuisine. Crete is also home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world like Elafonissi and Balos.
You should expect that you’ll need at least a 5 day visit to get a glimpse of this majestic island so this is maybe not the best selection for those who want to discover a lot of new places in a short time.
There is a popular saying in Greece: There’s no other place like Halkidiki. And that is true!
Halkidiki is a beautiful region in Northern Greece, with its three peninsulas jutting out into the Aegean Sea. It’s known for its endless, sandy beaches and its lavish vegetation, making it a destination that doesn’t look like your typical Greek coastline, rather more like a tropical island.
The Peloponnese is an emerging region for yacht enthusiasts in Greece and offers a lot of diverse options to visitors. From exploring Byzantine castles, rugged nature, and picturesque villages to sailing around secluded coasts, you can expect a unique experience like no other.
Sailing-wise positioned in between the southernmost Ionian islands to the west and the islands of the Saronic Gulf to the east, the Peloponnese offers a diversity for those eager to explore very interesting, less common and less frequented destinations.
Skippered yacht charters.
Chartering a yacht with a skipper in Greece is an ideal way to experience the beauty of this country. With an experienced skipper at the helm you can rest assured your safety is being taken care of and that all relevant rules and regulations are being followed, providing a hassle-free holiday experience as far as sailing the boat is concerned. Your skipper takes care of navigating, mooring, and sailing while you do all the rest, prepare meals, keep your boat clean, and assist your skipper with secondary duties as crew.
A crewed charter on the other hand, is a totally different ball game. On a crewed charter you have not just a Captain but a complete crew that will take care of you. For a yacht to accommodate crew, a team o people that look after the boat and the guests, a yacht needs to be considerably bigger than the average sailboat. Therefore we are looking at vessels that are mostly motor-yachts that also cost more to charter and to run.
With a crewed charter, you can rest assured that the whole experience will be taken care of by professionals. Some of the additional benefits include having a personal chef who will prepare delicious meals for you and your guests; expert sailors to navigate away from any potentially dangerous waters or obstacles; capable hosts to ensure everyone is well looked after; a mechanic on board to maintain the proper function of the engines; and of course, an experienced Captain who is available to give expert instruction and guidance.
As you can imagine, a crewed charter is more of a luxury option compared to a skippered charter. So, if you want to sail Greece in style on a luxury yacht, a crewed yacht charter is the way to go. At Vernicos Yachts we can guide you and help you make the choice that suits you best. We offer a variety of luxury crewed yachts that are available for charter.
And last but not least, enjoy! You are about to embark on an amazing journey, and you should make the most out of your vacation. Relax, live the moment, and create unforgettable memories. That is what sailing in Greece is all about.
Vernicos Yachts wishes you a pleasant and safe journey!

Greece is blessed with breathtaking beaches, sunshine, and a huge variety of landscapes, archeological sites, impeccable cuisine, and interesting activities for those visiting her beautiful lands. Many have heard of the Cyclades, Sporades, and islands such as Rhodes, Kos, and Crete. Greece has thousands of islands, 227 of them are inhabited which attract the interest of people from around the globe. With so many options it can be a daunting task to decide which is best for your vacation. Although you should have a great time no matter where you choose to go, we will include a little secret that not everyone knows about. The Cyclades are famous around the world especially in regards to the islands of Mykonos and Satorini. For this reason many usually overlook or don't even notice the absolutely gorgeous combination of islands and port side towns scattered in and around the Saronic Gulf with a Catamaran charter .

Book A Greece Catamaran Charter here!
These gorgeous locations are not only in close proximity to the mainland, but they are also perfectly suited for an extremely pleasant and interesting yacht sailing vacation . When sailing in this area you will have relatively small distances to cover when jumping from one island to the next, making it easy to visit multiple locations during your sailing adventure of the Greek Islands. Another factor which is extremely beneficial, is the fact that the Saronic rarely experiences rough sailing conditions seeing as it is surrounded by the shore of Attica from the North and the Argos peninsula which covers the Eastern coast of the Peloponnese. This creates shelter from large waves which can be important to families with young children and those looking for less stressful sailing conditions.
This is a major advantage in comparison to the Cyclades which often experience large swells and waves, especially during the months of July and August when the Meltemi is usually at its peak. In the rare instance that they do experience some extreme conditions most of the islands in this group provide excellent shelter from all wind directions. For instance Poros and Spetses all have bays which are well protected from the northern winds as well as pretty much any other direction. Guests can enjoy beautiful nights under the stars and awake to the pristine waters in the stunning natural surroundings which have provided their shelter. The fact that there is always a close location to dock when things get out of hand is an absolutely priceless advantage during a sailing vacation in the Greek Islands. It also means that getting stuck in a specific location due to high northern winds is extremely rare. Whereas if you are not careful with the locations you visit in the Cyclades this could be the case. The region also offers very pleasant temperatures and is a popular destination throughout May all the way to October.
A typical itinerary when visiting the Saronic Islands would include the islands of Poros, Spetses, Hydra, and Agistri. You will also be visiting the beautiful port towns, or seaside villages of Nafplion, Ermioni, and Palaia Epidauvros.
Day 1: Poros
Day 2: Spetses
Day 3: Nafplion
Day 4: Hydra
Day 5: Ermioni
Day 6: Palaia Epidauvros
Day 7: Agistri/ Athens
However seeing as this is a yacht sailing vacation nothing is set in stone and there could be various combinations or alterations to the list above. This will also depend on the duration of your charter.
Poros has a reputation for being one of the yacht friendliest locations in the country. It is filled with lush green pine forests, surrounded by crystal clear waters, and has an array of wonderful beaches for people of all ages to enjoy. The local taverns are known for the delicious traditional Greek dishes and fresh seafood and fish. There are also many lemon groves which the island has in abundance as well as other varieties of citrus fruits. Stand out points include its top class fish, affordable prices, great service and highly efficient road network making it easy to cover the island if you rent a car, quad, or bike. Expect to have loads of fun with family and loved ones when sailing around this island. There are countless charming little bays to explore and anchor for an afternoon or evening, taking in the exceptional scenery and enjoying the pristine waters present in this location. One of its main attractions is the town's clock tower, which one can see from pretty much anywhere they are on the island. It is an interesting hike up to the top, which can be demanding depending on the time of day you decide to visit. However once you reach the top, the view itself is a breathtaking reward for your efforts. Chances are you can see your yacht from here, taking a picture could make for great memorabilia of your vacation. Poros will surely be a great experience and although some may not want to leave yet, this is only the beginning of an awesome adventure.
Your next destination is probably the most cosmopolitan area you will visit in this region. Spetses has always attracted wealthy Athenians and ship owners to her gorgeous shores, this is especially true during the weekends. The island tends to fill up with many eager Athenians looking for a break from the mainland for a quick weekend getaway. Spetses has a rich naval history and played an important part in the war of independence. Laskalina Bouboulina is the most famous, and is a Greek Heroine which you can learn all about upon your visit to the island. The island is super green and has a variety of superb beaches all with immaculate waters for you and everyone to enjoy. When it comes to dining and food, you may select from a variety of different styles and price categories all suited to various tastes and preferences. Although it has many different venues offering a variety of cuisines, we always suggest you taste a local tavern and enjoy some of the traditional recipes and fresh fish. This way you are able to enjoy both worlds and get a taste of the local way of life. The season usually begins from Greek Orthodox Easter and runs all the way through to October. September is a great time to visit if you want to witness the Armatta, an annual reenactment of the islands greatest naval victory in 1822.
Directly on the edge of the Peloponnese facing towards the Argolic Gulf you will find Nafplion. This is modern Greece’s original capital, and considered one of the most romantic towns in the country. This area should captivate the senses and take you on an enchanting journey back into the ages. Imposing fortresses, prisons, and a medieval castle all await your discovery in a place which seems to have been frozen in time. This area has a rich history and culture which will leave its imprint on you and everyone visiting. Explore the alluring cobblestreet alleys, enjoy the unique beauty of the town squares filled with cafes, restaurants, and interesting sights. Nafplion has many of its own delicacies such as its distinct shell shaped pasta served with butter and sage, as well as many local Greek products like honey and olives and a variety of nuts, figs, and some delicious cheeses. Don’t miss out treating yourselves to a meal at one of the local taverns and exploring the many alleys all filled with pleasant surprises and interesting architecture.
Once you leave Nafplion your next destination will be Hydra. This is another island which played an important role in the 1821 War of Independence, contributing a significant amount of ships and resources in the fight against the Ottoman Empire. The island is blessed with one of the most beautiful and picturesque ports in the country. Gorgeous stone neoclassical buildings and mansions overlook the sea and populate the streets of this enchanting town. Once you arrive in the port it is impossible not to notice the canons pointing towards you from either side, providing a glimpse into the strategic locations and historical significance of the island. The use of automobiles is strictly prohibited, so one needs to become accustomed to seeing hordes of donkeys which are the traditional means of transportation. This creates a sense of serenity and safety that is easy to fall in love with during your stay on Hydra. Famous for the natural and calm atmosphere in the day, but also for the booming cosmopolitan nightlife enjoyed in the evenings. There is no doubt that this is one of the most sought out destinations amongst locals and tourists alike. It could be the deeply romantic vibes, or the unique architecture that draws all types of people from all walks of life to its shores.
Upon disembarking from Hydra you will shortly find yourself in the lovely seaside town of Ermioni. This gorgeous area is located in the south eastern region of the Peloponnese. It is well known for offering the same unique feeling and serenity of that which you will find on the islands. This region is famous for its super relaxed atmosphere, combination of interesting sights, and lovely beaches. Here one can enjoy the many traditional celebrations, excellent local cuisine and wine. This is the perfect location for relaxing and taking in the beauty of nature during your sails of the Saronic Islands. It is a very popular weekend destination for spending the day, weekend, or longer stretch of time.
As your awesome adventure begins to come to the end there are still quite a few surprises in store for you on this wonderful journey. One of these are Palaia Epidauros, where crystal clear waters meet the lush green forests stretching down from the mountains. It is here that the ancient world's most famous theater can be found. The town itself is not what you would call awe inspiring, and it is not fair to compare it to the likes of the islands. However with its own authentic character it provides a genuine Greek experience without false pretenses or facades. Seeing as this is a yacht sailing vacation one of the main highlights will be anchoring in the Epidaurus gulf surrounded by pristine waters and the incredible sights of nature and the mountains. Spend an incredibly relaxing evening underneath the stars before your final awesome island adventure before reaching Athens.
Your final island stop is the gorgeous, naturally beautiful and exotic island of Agistri. This is an exceptionally beautiful island covered in lush vegetation and greenery and some of the most amazing waters you will encounter during your entire journey around the Saronic Islands. This island definitely gives meaning to the saying less is more! Here the simplicity of life will be amplified and time will almost stand still, making your vacation feel just a little bit longer. Grilled octupus is a specialty on the islands and it is said that the opportunity should not be missed when visiting.
Athens will welcome you with open arms for the final chapter of your journey. One of the most famous cities in the world and historical capital of Europe. The birthplace of democracy, science, arts and philosophy. A gorgeous metropolitan city with thrilling history and sophisticated infrastructure and facilities. With its excellent modern forms of transportation visitors will be amazed at the variety and quality of the activities available to enjoy. There is an incredible variety of stores and shopping centers to select from. The friendly attitude of the locals will welcome you when the time comes for dinner or a night out in town. The nightlife offers an incredible variety of dining options, nightclubs, cocktail bars, and trendy establishments. So there is no way anyone will get bored in a city that never sleeps. The first place on most people's bucket list is the Acropolis, which triggers the imagination while taking you on a journey back to the time of the ancient Greeks. Upon reaching the Parthenon witness the incredible views and vantage points of Athens from a birds eye view. This is truly a remarkable area with great historical significance and famous architecture.
Athens has a variety of museums which offer a wide range of exhibits and displays. Wonder through Plaka, the old town and enjoy getting lost in the many alleys leading to all types of interesting stores, cafes, and traditional taverns. This will probably lead you to Monastiraki which is a popular meeting spot amongst local Athenians. Its town square is famous for its busy vibe and lively atmosphere. Filled with intricate alleys with unique antique stores and other interesting things like old records and book stores. This area is extremely diverse and has trendy, fancy, low key, and interesting places to choose from. Finally Syntagma is where you find the iconic landmarks of the Greek Parliament Buildings and National Garden. Surrounded by luxury hotels, restaurants, cafes, and many options for shopping for all tastes and preferences. No matter where you land up in Athens, it’s guaranteed to offer interesting sights and great places to sit, have a coffee or beverage and watch different people walk by.

“We were blessed with nearly perfect weather, a wonderfully kind crew, and incredible sights! We hope this won’t be our last time in Greece and certainly not the last we’ll see of this crew or vessel!”
❛ Over the last couple of years, we have seen an increase in the popularity of crewed catamaran charters in Greece. Popular especially with first-time charterers, catamarans are a great entry point into the world of crewed charters. Catamarans have low fuel consumption and can often accommodate up to 10 guests, leaving a higher percentage of the Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) for food and drinks.
Another trend of crewed catamaran charter in Greece is their increasing size. A few years ago, there were only a few luxury catamarans over 50 feet. Now, the new luxury catamarans joining the fleet are much longer; some are over 70 feet and even come with amenities like jacuzzi and jet skis!”

GRAYONE is another 80-foot Sunreef sailing catamaran charter. She has a very fashionable dark grey hull color, highlighting her gorgeous exterior lines and the enormous deck area covering the three teak decks.
She is a luxury catamaran with a creative internal layout that allows for a front bar complete with a wine cellar to serve guests both inside the boat and on the foredeck. Guests will have a hard time deciding between the aft cockpit, the spacious flybridge, and the upper deck, which features two loungers, integrated seating with breathtaking views of the Greek waters, and a cocktail table.
In contrast to the traditional nautical decor found on other luxury catamarans of comparable size, the interior of this one features a light ceiling and floors, dark blue and white tones, and a warm, welcome soft orange utilized in part for the materials.
A wide electro-hydraulic bathing platform is essential for the luxury crewed catamaran GRAYONE to store the fast tender , which is powered by 110hp and can reach speeds of over 35 knots. Along with the floating deck, the water toys , which include a SeaDoo jet ski, water skis, and a 16-square-meter floating swimming pool, may be securely thrown into the water.
A Catamaran Charter is a popular way of chartering in the Greek islands. The base charter fee is significantly lower compared to other boats and especially to motor yachts.
A sailing trip in the Greek islands can also be a bit challenging for those new to chartering. A Catamaran charter is a more comfortable choice due to its stability on the water and its increased onboard space, allowing for larger groups to share their sailing vacation and the bill.
IPHARRA is one of Sunreef’s larger sailing catamarans. Her expansive flybridge is equipped with a bar, large sofa, and deck chairs providing guests with the freedom to enjoy in the shade or tan in the sun. The open area is the perfect spot to enjoy the chef’s creative cooking style for alfresco dining during your sailing holiday.
Her captain, Frenchman Frank Ferrey, is a literal sea wolf , having sailed the oceans of the world for the past 18 years , having broken the record of the round the World Jules Vernes Trophy in 2004 .
Down IPHARRA’s spiral staircase is the ideal venue for both dining and relaxing in luxury with up to 10 guests . As the sun sets, the LED lights on the ceiling sparkle magically in the night.
IPHARRA has a full selection of water toys for charter guests to take advantage of, including waterskis, sailing Laser Vago, 2 electric sea bobs, 8 sets of diving equipment, 1 kayak, and snorkeling gear. IPHARRA offers two tenders available for use as well.
Catamarans are considered sailing yachts and often can leave port when motor yachts are forbidden to sail . A typical situation is August in the Cyclades Islands , where the Meltemi (strong, annual northerly winds) can keep a significant number of yachts grounded . Choosing catamaran sailing allows the captain to use the leeward side of the islands to navigate in protected waters (as far as wind and waves are concerned), taking advantage of the best sailing conditions in the Greek archipelagos.
Athens (possibly the Marina Alimos ) is the starting location of a typical crewed catamaran charter. Being lighter than t he super motor yachts, catamarans can perhaps reach more of the beautiful beaches and secluded coves scattered around the coastline of the Greek islands.
The smaller sailing yachts usually accommodate fewer people than catamarans , making the cost per guest higher, while, the larger sailing boats are often more expensive (due to crew size, maintenance costs, boat size, and berthing fees) and are considered more of a luxury.
On the other hand, Motor yachts can host a similar number of guests (up to 12) but at an even higher cost per passenger. Incorporating the APA – especially the cost of fuel (some motor yachts can consume up to 600 liters per hour) makes the difference even more dramatic.
Genny is a high-end, Greek charter catamaran with a Jetski . Have a look at the flybridge area – the deck size and comfort are comparable to motor yachts. Genny is a quite new sailing catamaran(2021) and clearly shows the trend of luxury catamarans growing in size in recent years – especially the larger Sunreef catamarans.
The Italian chef Errico underlines the status of Genny, placing it as a cross between catamarans and motor yachts. Not many sailing catamarans have the main saloon featuring a dinner table accommodating all guests .
Check our reviews, Genny has a crew of 6 providing a high level of service being able to surprise and plan fantastic activities – on the water as well as on land.
Genny comes equipped with a 28 ft motor dinghy and a sailing dinghy, plus kayaks, SUPs, sea scooters, sea bobs, snorkeling, and fishing gear. With the guidance of the expert crew members, you can explore hidden charms such as secluded beaches, gardens, and underwater zones.
“As a long-time charter guest in the Med and the Caribbean, I can say that you are unequivocally THE BEST IN THE BUSINESS!… What made the trip so fantastic was the skill, dedication, and expertise each one of you provided during the charter. Thank you for making these seven days of PURE MAGIC!”

Our captain had absolute command of the boat and was the consummate professional, navigating fierce winds all week with such skill and confidence that we never doubted our safety in his hands. The crew managed to deliver an exceptional experience, service, and food within the confines of our original APA budget. The boat, of course, is a beauty. So gracefully designed and well-appointed, with ample storage space and lots of comfortable places to gather. We loved every minute aboard that yacht.”
#1 is a catamaran charter in the saronic islands.
Due to catamarans’ lower sailing speed, the most popular sailing vacation spots for a catamaran charter are the Saronic Gulf and Ionian Islands.
A sailing itinerary in the Saronic Gulf takes you to some of the most beautiful Greek islands in the Aegean Sea with some of the best beaches. Plus, you have short distances for island hopping, allowing you to fit more into your itinerary and focus on exploring the islands.
Also note that catamaran charters are on the rise in the Ionian Islands , with more greenery and less wind! You can be lucky to find a catamaran charter already in the Ionian Sea (several have been moving there this summer), or you can find a catamaran charter starting in Athens and heading through the amazing Corinth Canal, well worth experiencing.
The Cyclades islands are reachable with a crewed catamaran charter, but they are weather-dependent due to strong “meltemi” winds in the summer.
If you have your mind set on a sailing itinerary in the Cyclades Islands , we suggest you inquire about starting your luxury crewed catamaran charter there. We can provide a list of yachts in the area that are available for your luxury Yacht charter vacation in Greece.

Make sure to check out our ULTIMATE ITINERARY GUIDE . Greece is a treasure trove of experiences, and truly, you could spend a lifetime exploring all it has to offer. If you’re wondering where to begin or which yacht fits your specific needs, our expert brokers are ready to assist.
A piece of advice, newer yachts are often more fuel-efficient.
It is no secret that, compared to sailing yachts, motor yachts consume a large amount of fuel and generally entail significantly higher charter costs. This might be a pivotal consideration for those planning a charter in Greece on a budget. But, for those set on a motor yacht, it is worth looking at newer motor yachts rather than older models. Although an older motor yacht might have a cheaper initial cost, the better fuel efficiency of a newer engine will save you money in the long run.
We have seen a significant increase in size among top-tier motor yachts in recent years allowing for the accommodation of larger groups of guests, along with the inclusion of amenities and luxuries previously uncommon, such as generous water toy collections, open-air Jacuzzis, and much more.
Spending a little more on a motor yacht can get you a lot more for your $$!
Make sure to book your Greek yacht charter well in advance. Ideally, you would inquire about your coming charter 12 months in advance . WHY? The best charter yachts are often fully booked long in advance and it’s not unusual to see popular dates booked 2 summers ahead for a Greece yacht charter. Inquiring less than 6 months ahead often means that your first choice is unavailable for charter.

Your private tour of Greece begins in Athens, one of the world’s oldest cities. You will be taken by private transfer to your hotel in downtown Athens with views of the Acropolis. Once a powerful city-state and a center for the arts, learning and philosophy, Athens was home to Plato’s Academy and Aristotle’s Lyceum, and is often referred to as the cradle of Western civilization and the birthplace of democracy. Its heritage of the classical era is still evident and represented by ancient monuments and works of art dotted throughout the city, the most famous being the Parthenon.
After you settle into your luxury hotel, visit the innovative Acropolis Museum with your expert guide. The museum’s glass design is equal in size and shape to the Parthenon, and rotates the marble sculptures and findings exactly as they were placed at the Parthenon centuries ago. After your immersion into the rich history of the Acropolis, dine at a nearby restaurant with breathtaking views of the Acropolis.
The next day, visit the Acropolis itself, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the most important ancient site in the Western world. Later, explore the Plaka neighborhood built on top of the residential areas of the ancient town of Athens and finish at the Ancient Agora and Roman Forums, all walking distance from your hotel. Enjoy lunch at a traditional tavern before heading back to your hotel to spend some time at leisure. Later in the evening, dine at a gourmet restaurant in town.
Your Greece private yacht charter begins at the port of Piraeus in Athens, where you will board your luxury motor yacht and embark on a 7 night private cruise through the Greek Isles. The yacht will be equipped with a dedicated crew giving you the flexibility to alter the itinerary when needed, according to weather or personal preferences. Please see below for a suggested Blue Parallel itinerary centered on privacy and beautiful, secluded locations. Services of personal hosts or guides will also be provided during land excursions when applicable.
On your first day, sail to Sifnos Island where you can take a scenic hike to Kastro, a picturesque, car-free village with over 3,000 years of history, for a walking tour through the ancient streets with your expert guide. Later, enjoy cocktails on the terrace of a local cafe, enjoying impressive views over the surrounding sea and mountains before continuing down to the bay where you can enjoy a unique dinner at Cantina, overlooking the water.
In the morning head to the uninhabited island of Polyaigos to swim in its crystal clear waters and enjoy its deserted beaches. You will make stops at different emerald bays that explode in blue color due to the underground white clay at the ocean bottom. In the afternoon, continue your Greece private charter with a visit to Milos Island, an idyllic place for those who want to experience Greece in all its beauty while skipping the crowds found on the more popular islands. On the way, stop at Sarakiniko beach located on the north shore of Milos island for an afternoon swim. Dock for the evening at the main port and enjoy dinner at a local taverna.
Continue your private yacht tour of Greece in Santorini, the largest island of a small circular archipelago in the southernmost point of the Cyclades Islands. Enjoy boating along the caldera with stops at the famous red and white beaches made of solidified lava for swimming and snorkeling. In the afternoon, take a private transfer to Imerovigli where you can start your hike to Skaros Rock and later continue along the caldera to Oia. This is an awe-inspiring 2.5 hour hike along the cliffs of the caldera, passing charming white churches and traditional cave houses with views of the Aegean Sea. End the hike at Oia in time to watch one of the world’s best sunsets and enjoy a fresh seafood dinner right on the water at Ammoudi port.
The next morning, you will explore Akrotiri, a Minoan Bronze Age settlement that was destroyed in a volcanic eruption around 1,500 BC. Later, enjoy a private volcanic wine tasting at an exclusive vineyard near Akrotiri. Return to your yacht where you can enjoy lunch onboard and in the afternoon, sail to Antiparos where you can enjoy an incredible sunset at Captain Pipinos.
Your private Greece tour continues to Paros where you spend the morning exploring its northern beaches such as Santa Maria bay where you can snorkel or dive. After lunch onboard the yacht, continue to Parikia and Naoussa, both known for their traditional Cycladic architecture, shopping, and little cafes. Then, in the late afternoon, head to a private home where you can enjoy a traditional culinary experience and cooking lesson in a traditional farm house. Following the class, enjoy the fruits of your labor for dinner with an unforgettable view of Paros.
In the morning, depart for Mykonos Island. Before reaching the main island, enjoy a private archaeological tour of Delos Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and ancient administrative center. Continue on to the uninhabited island of Renia for swimming in remote coves. Enjoy fresh grilled fish for lunch, then disembark at Mykonos town – the famed cosmopolitan destination and nightlife hotspot – for some shopping and sightseeing. In the evening, enjoy a gourmet dinner at one of Mykonos’ best restaurants.
Head west to end your private yacht charter in Greece in Kythnos. Kythnos Island is known for its traditional villages, beautiful beaches and rolling hills. On this agricultural island, life is simple and most of its beaches are unspoiled. Upon arrival, head to the stunning Kolona beach which connects the island of Agios Loukas with the rest of Kythnos and forms a golden stretch of sand with crystalline sapphire waters on both sides. Only reachable by boat (or on foot), this unique characteristic creates a romantic and tranquil atmosphere. End the day with a farewell BBQ on the beach, prepared exclusively for your party.
Your luxury Greece tour ends with an early morning departure for Athens port. Upon arrival, enjoy a private transfer to Athens international airport to catch your flight home.

Greece is home to thousands of islands, which means hundreds of opportunities for exploring. If you love island hopping, cruising, fishing, and snorkelling, a crewed catamaran in Greece is an excellent choice for your next sea adventure. To hire a crewed catamaran in Greece would be a fantastic opportunity for your wedding, birthday, graduation, celebration, group trip or any other event to enjoy the full benefits. Here are a few reasons why catamaran hire in Greece is a great idea .
The Aegean Sea around the Greek islands offers some of the most transparent waters. The light is often so clear that you can see far away, and the views are truly amazing.
You can spend your whole day cruising on a catamaran without having to worry about your boat getting lost in waves or being tilted over by sudden winds. By hiring a crewed catamaran in Greece, you get to enjoy the spectacular views while relaxing and enjoying your time on the water. Crewed catamarans in Greece are available for rent all year long, which means that you can book a boat trip during any season of the year.
You’re in for some serious relaxation when you opt for catamaran hire in Greece . A catamaran for rent in Greece is ideal, and it will make you feel like you’re in paradise. Sunbathe on the deck or snorkel around shipwrecks to see sunken treasures.
Spend your time exploring the hidden coves and private beaches of the Greek islands or dining with your loved ones on board. Whatever your idea of relaxation is, a Greece catamaran charter will be sure to deliver.

We believe you should be able to enjoy the beauty and majesty of Greece with a catamaran cruise. If you need a catamaran for rent in Greece, our company offers
As the quintessential Greek island, it’s no surprise that Paros is one of the most popular destinations in all of Europe.
Host to some of the world’s most breathtaking beaches and boasting a rich history that dates back over 4,000 years, Paros is an island like no other. With an average of 300 days of sunshine each year, it’s no wonder that Paros has become a tourist hot spot. If you’re thinking about traveling there, we recommend hiring a catamaran.
Because the island itself is small and easily walkable, a catamaran will help you explore nearby islands and experience the true beauty of Greece. Plus, there are so many beautiful spots to stop along the way for swimming and snorkeling.
Greece has dozens of islands that one can visit. Hiring a catamaran gives you the freedom to go wherever you want and stop when you feel like it. You don’t need to wait for ferries or figure out bus schedules.
Hiring a catamaran will allow you to see even more of this gorgeous destination. Hire a small crew to take care of all your needs as you enjoy breathtaking views from your hotel room windows all day long.
Many travelers to Greece love to spend time on Naxos, a beautiful island in the Cyclades located in the Aegean Sea.
Naxos is a popular tourist destination because it has so much to offer. Visitors can swim in crystal-clear waters, hike through exotic landscapes, and enjoy delicious cuisine. However, hiring a catamaran to island Naxos offers a one-of-a-kind experience for tourists that cannot be found anywhere else in the world .
The most captivating thing about hiring a catamaran is the opportunity to see dolphins from the deck of your boat. Dolphins inhabit waters near Naxos and often swim alongside the boats and interact with tourists.
This makes for an exciting day trip full of joy and laughter. Visitors can also bring along their underwater cameras or smartphones to capture memories of their dolphin encounters for years to come.
A catamaran for rent in Greece also gives travelers the chance to sail through some of the best scenery around Naxos without having to worry about controlling the boat themselves.
Our catamaran is equipped with a captain and staff members who provide passengers with drinks and snacks during their trip. This means that passengers don’t have to worry about stopping at restaurants or stores while visiting the island.
If you’re looking to discover the real Greece, you need to hire a catamaran around the island of Mykonos.
There are countless islands off the coast of mainland Greece that offer alternative experiences, but there’s something about the region around Mykonos that sets it apart from the rest. In recent years, the island Mykonos has risen to prominence as a destination for tourists looking for something new and exciting. However, it has managed to avoid the pitfalls that have plagued other destinations in Greece in recent years.
The tourist industry is still thriving on island Mykonos, but the pastoral lifestyle of its residents is still intact. Most visitors head to center Mykonos and explore the main town area, where they’ll find dozens of shops selling handcrafted goods from local artisans.
The town is known for its many boutiques specializing in island-inspired fashion and accessories like sandals, clothing, scarves, and bags, making it a great place to pick up souvenirs for friends back home.
There are also plenty of options for dining out in Mykonos town , with everything from traditional Greek taverns serving fresh seafood caught by local fishermen to modern restaurants serving up gourmet dishes in gorgeous outdoor settings.
Scheduled cruises are also offered as Private or Semi-Private, to celebrate your special event.
Private: you charter the boat exclusively for your party (the capacity of the Catamaran is 25 passengers) Semi-private: You ensure that the trip will happen even if there are few participants, but there might be other participants on the boat than your party

Here are just some of the many reasons you should choose Greece as your next superyacht charter destination:
Located in the Aegean Sea, the Cyclades sit southwest of mainland Greece and consist of hundreds of islands, many of which are uninhabited. The Cyclades’ most popular superyacht destination is arguably Santorini; however, beyond this uber-exclusive port of call lie plenty of island gems to cruise to, including Ios, Paros, Antiparos, Mykonos, and Milos. Enjoy an island-hopping adventure soaking up the Cyclade Islands’ stunning natural beauty, superb beaches, and white-washed towns.
The Ionian Islands boast some of the Mediterranean’s most idyllic island gems. Made up of 14 islands, such as Corfu, Zakynthos, Kefalonia, Paxi, and Kythira, the Ionian Islands are known for their superb ancient wonders and modern-day marvels. Explore historic towns rich in Venetian and Byzantine architecture, discover abundant olive groves, or relax on white sandy beaches, such as the iconic Smuggler’s Cove on the island of Zakynthos. There’s no question that the best way to explore the Ionian Islands is by luxury yacht.
Lying in an elegant arch that runs parallel to the Turkish coast, the Dodecanese Islands are rich in history and boast a vibrant tapestry of cultures. Many of the islands can trace their roots back to the Byzantine and Ottoman empires. Highlights include the islands of Rhodes and Kos, rich in UNESCO World Heritage Sites, while lesser-known islands such as Lipsi, Tilos, and Symi offer tranquil charm in abundance. Island-hop these fascinating islands at your own pace while enjoying all the luxuries of your private yacht.
With more than 6,000 islands to explore, spanning major island chains such as the Cyclades Islands, the Aegean Islands, the Sporades Islands, the Ionian Islands, the Dodecanese Islands, and the Saronic Islands, there’s a Greek locale to match every desired experience. Whether you want an off-the-beaten-track feel or want to be in the heart of all the action, Greece offers the ideal spot. Some of the most popular with yachting enthusiasts include:
Considered one of the most dazzling and exclusive of all the Greek islands, Santorini offers charm in abundance. Explore cobbled streets drenched in bougainvillea, party at decadent beach clubs, or enjoy dining at some of Greece’s most spectacular restaurants.
Sandy beaches lapped by turquoise waters, striking interiors, and pretty whitewashed buildings are the hallmarks of Mykonos. This Greek Island is known for its ultra-hip nightspots that attract internationally acclaimed DJs, refined beach restaurants, and label-laden boutiques.
Pretty Crete is one of the largest and most populous islands in Greece, known for its rich culture, superb cuisine, and spectacular National Park. Explore cities steeped in history and fascinating ancient ruins such as Knossos, first occupied during the Neolithic era, 7,000 B.C.
Considered one of Greece’s most romantic destinations, pretty Hydra will seduce you with its quaint towns and relaxed atmosphere. Hydra is a car-free island, giving it the feel of a bygone area that over the years has attracted renowned artists and jet setters in equal measure.
There’s lots going on in Rhodes, with plenty to see and do, making it a popular yachting destination. Rhode’s Medieval Old Town is a must-visit and is regarded as one of the best-fortified cities in Europe. On Rhodes, you’ll also find the ancient Lindos Acropolis.
While not technically a Greek island, mainland Greece should not be ignored. Athens is brimming with Greek culture and mythology, exclusive restaurants, designer boutiques, and world-class offerings. A must-visit is the Acropolis of Athens, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and considered the most complete ancient Greek monumental complex.

Enjoy sunshine sailing in Greece as you explore the Saronic Islands under sail with skippered catamaran Zorba Cat.
Enjoy some Mediterranean sunshine as you set sail in Greece with skippers Aga and Greg, who will show you the best of a sailing holiday in the Saronic Islands.
Tucked south of Athens in the shelter of the Saronic Gulf, the Saronic Islands are well known for their rich history, ancient ruins, individual personalities, sandy beaches and beautiful clear blue waters. This skippered sailing holiday focuses on a mixture of inhabited and uninhabited islands that make up the Saronic, with a few mainland harbours thrown into the mix, too. With crystal clear warm waters, an abundance of sunshine and true Greek hospitality with plenty of tavernas – a sailing holiday in Greece with the modern catamaran Zorba Cat will certainly leave you longing to return.
Saronic islands, greece.
With easy access from the mainland airport of Athens, Zorba Cat will set the sails and head straight for the Saronic Islands as you spend the next week under sail, discovering all the islands offer. Your route will entirely depend on the wind and weather and also the feeling of all the guests onboard. Aga will help guests plan their connection from the airport to the island of Salamina, where you will meet the boat. Full details of this will be given upon booking – all you have to do is get to the airport!
As well as a plethora of uninhabited islands that make for great remote escapes off the beaten track and away from the tourist hustle and bustle, the islands also consist of the inhabited main islands of Salamis, Aegina, Agistri and Poros. The island of Hydra is sometimes added to the Saronic’s list and, as long as the winds permit, is one of Aga and Greg’s favourite places to take guests.
From afternoon anchorages on remote islands perfectly lined with crystal coves for swimming and snorkelling to the very best, tried and tested tavernas on the main islands, there won’t be time to see it all, and you’ll be longing to return before you’ve even stepped foot off the boat. There is something for everyone sailing with Zorba Cat, from relaxing on the sun deck to learning the ropes under the guidance of Greg; the experience really is yours to make.
Every Greek island has its unique personality, and although they all offer the best of Greek hospitality, they cater to people of all ages and interests. One place that should be on everyone’s bucket list is the UNESCO heritage site of the ancient theatre in Epidavros . We highly recommend visiting this site. While you’re on this coast, you shouldn’t miss out on the sunken city of Epidavros, which offers an unforgettable snorkelling experience.
We will meet on the pistachio island of Aegina in the bustling waterfront port where tavernas line the shore and boutique shops dot the charming back streets. Perhaps take a taxi to explore the architectural wonders of the ancient city of Temple of Aphaia, which is impressively built on the hill. Aga and Greg’s favourite harbour on Aegina is the quiet fishing village of Perdika where you can find the “nicest people in the world”!
The Saronic showpiece has to be Hydra , with its ancient port carefully lined with well-preserved stone houses rising from a chic, history-charged harbour. Known as the jewel of the Saronic, Hydra has no car traffic, so donkeys are the best way to get around!
In the south of the Saronic’s sits the chic Poros harbour and the tiny fishing village on Methana . Poros offers impressive views from its clock tower on top of the hill while white-washed, tiled roofs tumble down to the waterfront, lined with authentic tavernas, often playing local music in the evenings. Methana is the perfect overnight stop for reaching Aga and Greg’s friends, who own an authentic Greek vineyard in the hills. Aga can help to arrange a vineyard tour and dinner here if guests wish – (please ask her once you have boarded!)
Guest berths: 10 Rig: Sloop
Sail in luxury aboard Zorba Cat through the stunning Greek islands. Enjoy her spacious comfort and style, as well as exceptional service, as you relax and indulge in the beauty of the Mediterranean landscape.
Zorba Cat is a large modern Fountaine Pajot Eleuthera 60ft catamaran. She has four private ensuite cabins for guests: two master aft ensuite cabins (that can be split into a twin if needed) and two double forward ensuite cabins. All cabins are complete with modern push-button toilets and wet room-style showers.
With a generous saloon and a well-equipped galley, Zorba Cat was built with charter and guest comfort at the forefront of her design. She has two dropped transoms with swim ladders making easy access into the water and cushioned nets to lay out and relax at the bow. There is a large lounging area under the boom and a comfortable dining area at the stern for alfresco eating. Zorba Cat gives guests the perfect access to that crystal-clear Mediterranean Sea!
A sailing holiday in Greece with a luxury catamaran is accessible to all ages and abilities. Her simple rig makes her a leisurely sail with winch systems and modern navigation equipment. Her considered design makes her a comfortable and fun boat to sail, whether you’re an experienced sailor looking for some sunshine or a novice wanting to try something new.
Her owners and skippers absolutely love what they do, and that’s evident for guests to see and, even better, experience first-hand. They are well-tuned to all abilities and ages, from family charters with young children to groups of friends or voyages for couples and solo travellers. They tailor every trip to suit their guests’ needs, so if you want to sit back, enjoy the Mediterranean sunshine, and enjoy the cuisine of the local tavernas – that’s fine, too!
A sailing holiday on Zorba Cat will certainly leave you with long-lasting memories. She is available to book by the cabin or as a private charter for your friends and family. Every sailing charter is fully crewed, and breakfast and lunch are included in your ticket price.

Catarman Zorba Cat is run by sailing couple Aga and Greg who strive to provide an authentic sailing experience in Greece, where you can discover hidden anchorages away from tourist-heavy areas and dine in traditional Greek seaside tavernas. Whether you’re a family, couple, or solo traveller, there’s something for everyone with Zorba Cat’s charters. Expect an unforgettable sailing holiday with her!
During all of Zorba Cat’s voyages, the main aim is to avoid tourist crowds and instead opt for small harbours or anchorages next to deserted islands. Each day, guests stop for a swim in beautiful bays, some of which are wild, while others have a small taverna serving fresh fish and seafood for lunch, often taken out of the water before their very eyes. Guests have the opportunity to jog or practice yoga in the morning, enjoy organic healthy food on board, and experience a healthy lifestyle close to nature. Friendly locals, as well as delicious food and wine, are common features on all the islands that Zorba Cat visits.
All Zorba Cat voyages offer a perfect balance of relaxation, sightseeing and sailing! Depending on the itinerary, Aga and Greg recommend and help to organise excursions to historical sites and other places worth visiting.
After a peaceful night’s rest, you can start your day by indulging in a wholesome breakfast, take a leisurely stroll ashore and savour a delicious cup of coffee while admiring the scenic surroundings.
We usually sail for a few hours each day until we arrive at a stunning bay with a deserted beach. There we have plenty of time to enjoy activities such as snorkelling, swimming, sunbathing, exploring the island or bay, and reading books. Together, we prepare a light lunch, and the Greek salad seems to be an ideal choice for a hot day. After lunch, we take some downtime, and maybe even a little siesta or a swim before setting sail again.
Zorba Cat has stand-up paddle boards, a double kayak, water skiing, inflatables and snorkel masks for guests to use included in the ticket price.
In the afternoon, we’ll set the sails again to a new location. If you’re interested, you can learn how to steer, tie knots, and pull ropes. Alternatively, you can simply relax and sunbathe on the deck. Before the evening arrives, we will arrive at a new island and dock in a charming little village. There, we will explore the area and enjoy the beautiful sunset, which is rumoured to be even more impressive than the one in Santorini!
In the evenings, our main focus is to unwind and take things slowly. We usually head to a traditional Taverna to sample some amazing local food and delicious Greek wine while enjoying live music and dancing some Zorba. “No hurry” is our motto for the night.
The ticket price includes breakfast and lunch, and Aga will be your host and main chef on board Zorba Cat. However, guests are welcome to participate in all aspects of life on board and often assist with food preparation and cooking. Aga plans to go shopping on the first day so that everyone’s preferences can be considered (if guests would like to join her, they are welcome) The evening meals will mainly consist of dishes from Aga & Greg’s favourite Greek tavernas. Local cuisine, fresh fish, and seafood can be purchased at a relatively low cost of about 30€ per person, which includes wine.
Aga and Greg have spent many years exploring this region of Greece, and they believe that to experience authentic Greece truly, guests should have the opportunity to dine in Greek tavernas. If spending a night on a remote anchorage is a priority, dinner will be prepared communally aboard.
Zorba Cat is a custom-built charter catamaran, so all her communal spaces and cabins have been well-considered and are generously proportioned.
There are two primary dining areas on the yacht – one in the spacious open saloon and the other on the stern of the deck, where you can enjoy alfresco dining under a canopy cover. You’ll find numerous spots to read a book or soak up the sun, both on the decks and across the bow nets (both areas are fully cushioned). The dropped transoms are perfect for easy access in and out of the water with swim ladders and fresh water hose showers.
Zorba Cat has two master ensuite cabins and two forward double ensuite cabins.
The Master cabins are at the rear and on either side of the catamaran with oversized standard double beds and plenty of storage and hanging space. In one of the cabins, the bed can be split into two single beds. The ensuite is a modern push-button flush toilet with a wet room-style shower.
On each bow of the boat, there is a double ensuite cabin complete with a double bed. The ensuite is a modern push-button flush toilet with a wet room-style shower.
The price also reflects the half-board nature of this holiday, as explained in Zorba Cat’s life on board section . Breakfast and lunch are included, but you will dine out in traditional tavernas for your evening meals. This is at the guest’s expense, but you’ll find a delicious local spread for as little as 30€ per person – including the wine! There is also board cash of €3000 per charter payable upon arrival that covers fuel, marina fees, water and air-conditioning. This is reflected in the ticket price advertised and is based purely on the economics of Greece, which is still such a cash-based society.
Zorba Cat has lots of space for possessions but please be considerate and travel with rigid cases, only in soft bags or wheelie cases that are only hard on one side.
We recommend a travelling light principal with lots of lightweight, easy-drying layers. Below is a list of recommended items, these are not mandatory and those that have sailed before may have their preferences!
It can be quite a few degrees colder out at sea so please bring layers in the spring and autumn even if the forecast seems like a warm week!
Please note that this is an example of what you may be served. Aga will be your host and main chef although guests tend to get involved with all aspects of life on board Zorba Cat. Aga will go shopping on the first day and welcomes guests to join her so everyone’s preferences can be taken into consideration.
Evening meals are more often than not from a very considered list of Aga & Greg’s favourite Greek tavernas. Local cuisine, fresh fish and seafood can be purchased at a relatively low local cost of about 15€ per person (including wine).
As this is an active adventure holiday, we advise that everyone has the appropriate personal accident travel insurance whilst onboard in addition to standard travel insurance which would cover you in the time between making your booking and departing for your adventure. These policies can sometimes be combined so please check with your travel insurance provider.
Please read more information on our Insurance guidelines page.

From: Aegina
To see where the ports are, along with your likely sailing area, please view the sail area & highlights.
Aegina, saronic islands, greece.
Flights go direct to Athens International Airport from London Standsted with Ryanair, and London Gatwick with Wizz Air, British Airways and easyJet. You’ll then need to take a taxi from the airport to Piraeus port and take a ferry to Aegina port, which takes about 40 minutes to 1 hour.
There are many different ferry options which run throughout the day, please use Ferry Scanner t o find timetables. We recommend guests to pre-book tickets ( this will still require picking up a physical ticket from the kiosk on the front ) as peak times can be busy.
( The Flying Dolphin and/or Hellenic offer a faster transfer than the larger Blue Star Ferry . )
Zorba’s crew can assist you in arranging an airport/hotel transfer to take you to the Pireaus (this is not included in the ticket price but they have a good local contact) Please contact Aga the week before your voyage if you need this service.
Depending on berth availability, Zorba Cat will either be in Aegina port (a 2-minute walk from the ferry) or Perdika (just along the coast). If the boat is in Perdika, Aga will arrange for a taxi (€15pp) to pick you up at Aegina port and take you to Perdika.

Inside jeff bezos and lauren sanchez’s hot yacht summer with kim kardashian, leo & more.
If Jeff Bezos’ and Lauren Sánchez’ hot yacht summer were a movie, it would be a mashup of “Three Coins in the Fountain,” “Eat Pray Love” and “The Perfect Storm” — and the season’s not over yet.
The 60-year-old billionaire and his fiancée, 54, are sailing the Mediterranean again this summer on Bezos’ $485 million yacht Koru , which features a sultry figurehead on the prow that looks an awful lot like Sánchez.
They’ve cruised to Greece, Italy and Spain, with a pit stop Wednesday on the secluded island of Menorca in the Balearics, where they took refuge — along with some other expensive yachts — from a low-pressure storm called Dana.
Bezos and Sánchez have been accompanied on the 417-ft Koru by their support yacht, Abeona , which holds their water toys and a fleet of A-list guests who have included Kim Kardashian, Katy Perry, Orlando Bloom, Leonardo DiCaprio and his 25-year-old Italian supermodel girlfriend Vittoria Ceretti, and others.
“They’re the flavor of the month in the Med,” said a longtime entertainment exec just back from a month in the South of France.
“For a while it was the Russians, and way back in the day it was Ari [Onassis] and Maria [Callas] on the [yacht] Christina. But the Russians like Roman Abramovich are pretty much gone now. There’s always a new wave,” the exec said. “[Sánchez] seems tacky but I’ve heard she’s very nice and Bezos adores her. Is she ever going to look like Babe Paley? Not in this lifetime.”
The exec also pointed out that the Koru is more than 100 feet longer than Barry Diller’s yacht, which measures just over 300 feet — but not as big as David Geffen’s 453-foot vessel — saying billionaires often have “aquatic penis envy.”
The world’s second-richest couple channeled their inner Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck in Rome on Tuesday when they shared a passionate kiss in front of the famed Trevi Fountain, seemingly oblivious to the hordes of tourists.
Bezos, in a fitted golf shirt, navy pants and boating shoes, and Sánchez, in a red halter minidress and peep-toe heels, also joined the crowd in the time-honored tradition of tossing money into the fountain with their right hands.
Oh, to know what they wished for.
Later they held hands and walked down cobblestone streets to their dinner destination, Pierluigi, where photographers snapped them dining on white wine, salad and bread at a table containing a singular red rose.
The couple took a bit of a solemn detour on land on Thursday when they swung by the Vatican for a visit with 87-year-old Pope Francis.
“He reminded us not to take life too seriously, a simple yet powerful reminder to keep lightness in our hearts,” Sanchez wrote on social media.
Bezos and Sánchez began their summer in June island-hopping in Greece with a rare appearance by Bezos’ 19-year-old son Preston, who Bezos shares with his ex-wife Mackenzie Scott.
Kim Kardashian then joined them, zipping around the Med on jetskis . At one point Kardashian and an unidentified blonde rode her jetski as they took selfies.
The “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” alum has been tight with Sánchez and Bezos for a couple of years, going on a double date in 2022 and attending a Beyoncé concert in 2023.
In September 2023, the trio had dinner together in New York City , joined by Nicky Hilton.
The “Kardashians” star made it clear that Sánchez is part of her inner circle when she celebrated her birthday in a Season 5 episode.
Meanwhile, Bezos and Sánchez were also spotted on their own in Greece on the island of Hydra, walking hand-in-hand on the seafront. They popped up next on Mykonos and from there it was on to Pserimos, famed for its beaches.
July saw them jet to Sun Valley, Idaho, for the town’s namesake financial conference attended by billionaires.
Last weekend, the pair pulled up on the island of Sardinia with Perry, Bloom, DiCaprio and Ceretti. The celebs came to shore on one of Bezos’ smaller boats for lunch at a high-end beach resort before heading back to Koru.
Bloom and Perry — who started their own month-long vacation in France — also vacationed with Bezos and Sánchez around this time last year. In August 2023, the foursome was spotted walking around Dubrovnik, Croatia, with Usher.
DiCaprio and Bezos have been “really close friends” for years, with a source previously telling Page Six they often vacation together and find “common ground in the fight against climate change and their work in environmental activism.”
Koru ranks as the planet’s thirty-second largest yacht and costs about $25 million to operate annually. The vessel can accommodate 18 guests and requires a crew of 40 sailors to manage its amenities.
Its three huge, 229-foot masts power it to 20 knots. It’s also the biggest billionaire’s yacht which can move under sail power alone.
Bezos and Sánchez recently relocated from Seattle to Indian Creek Island in Miami, where Bezos bought three mansions for about $237 million — surely a nice home if you’ve got to be on land.
