Caribbean Yachting Season

The Caribbean high season for yacht charters runs from mid-December to early May, with Christmas and New Year’s the most popular and busiest times of the year. But due to the islands’ locations near the equator, temperatures remain ideal throughout the year, making off-season charters just as enjoyable.

Keep in mind, however, that there is an increased chance for storms and hurricanes during the summer season, mainly from mid-August to mid-November. Most charter yachts leave the area during that time.

Area Guide: Caribbean Charter Destinations

A girl snorkeling in the BVI

Are you ready to explore all that the Caribbean has to offer? There are three main island areas in the Caribbean, all fantastic destinations for Caribbean charter yacht vacations.

The Grenadines

The Grenadines are untouched by mass tourism and industry, and they are the perfect charter destination if you are looking for solitude and you enjoy exploring remote areas. A great combination of lush rain forests and sandy beaches awaits!

This is a great summer charter destination because the islands aren’t usually affected by hurricanes.

The Leeward Islands

Leeward Islands yacht rentals offer the perfect combination of luxury and solitude. You can visit the glitzy islands of St. Maarten and St. Barts one day and get lost in the remoteness and tranquility of Anguilla the next day.

These islands are rich in history and offer great restaurants, upscale resorts, and trendy harbors.

The Virgin Islands

The Virgin Islands are the perfect location for first-time charterers and families because of their calm waters, protected natural anchorages, and short distances between the islands.

The BVI are a great destination for a catamaran or sailing yacht charter. Caribbean locations here have constant yet mild trade winds year round, and the area offers fantastic diving and snorkeling.

Where Can I Charter a Yacht?

When you choose Worldwide Boat as your Caribbean yacht charter broker, we can help you charter a luxury boat anywhere in the Caribbean or anywhere else you’d like to go, from the Mediterranean to Alaska to the Galapagos Islands.

How Do I Book a Private Yacht?

The best Caribbean yacht charters can be booked in just a few easy steps:

  • Choose our experienced yacht charter specialists to assist you through the process of booking a yacht.
  • Search by destination or by boat, or use our advanced search tool to filter your options by the number of guests, yacht type, destination, and/or your budget.
  • Pick the option that best fits your needs and your dream vacation.
  • Reserve your yacht by signing a contract with the yacht owner.
  • Enjoy your vacation!

How Much Does it Cost to Charter a Yacht in the Caribbean?

Weekly rates for Caribbean boat charters are dependent on a number of factors, including the type of yacht, the season, and your destination. Motor yachts, for example, typically range from $15,000 (yachts up to 80 feet) to $150,000 or more (yachts over 150 feet) per week.

During the Caribbean high season (Christmas, New Year’s, and January/February), yacht charter Caribbean prices tend to increase slightly. Areas with large charter fleets, like St. Martin, tend to have more competitive pricing than areas with smaller fleets.

How Much Does it Cost to Charter a Catamaran in the Caribbean?

Most catamarans offer all-inclusive rates, which start at $10,000 for catamarans under 50 feet and run up to $50,000 or more for catamarans of 80 feet or more. The Caribbean is an ideal destination for a catamaran charter, and across the region, you’ll find a variety of sailing and power cats available for charter.

Ultimately, the cost of a catamaran charter is dependent on the time you visit, where you go, local taxes, and the number of ports you visit. A luxury yacht charter in the Caribbean’s high season (New Year’s or Christmas) will cost significantly more than a catamaran charter in summer.

Can I Rent a Yacht for a Day?

Rates for yacht rentals are usually weekly, but when you talk to a Caribbean yacht charter broker at Worldwide Boat, we can look at your budget, plans, and interests to help you get the best experience possible.

Caribbean Yachting Hotspots

Caribbean sailing charters give you access to white-sand beaches and laid-back island vibes, but they can also offer action-packed itineraries. From island-hopping and hiking to snorkeling and cliff-jumping, adventure awaits on a Caribbean yacht charter!

Some of the region’s must-see destinations include:

  • St. Martin : Known for its upscale eateries and amazing cuisine, as well as high-end spas, shopping and casinos, St. Martin is the yachting capital of the Caribbean. This island is part French and part Dutch, and it’s close to islands like St. Barts and Anguilla, making it a favorite jumping-off point for island-hopping adventures.
  • St. Barts : St. Barts (sometimes called St. Barths) beckons A-listers to its posh beach clubs, fashionable shops, and five-star eateries. Visitors will find a collection of truly spectacular powdery beaches, Michelin-starred restaurants, and excellent shoreside amenities, all within cruising distance of St. Martin.
  • Antigua : Antigua epitomizes the relaxation and bliss of the Caribbean. Known for its 365 beaches (one for every day of the year), the tiny island is a sailor’s dream, offering warm waters, steady winds, safe anchorages, and a lively regatta calendar.
  • Grenada : Grenada is revered for its beautiful beaches, abundant marine wildlife, and vibrant cuisine (spiced with local nutmeg, mace, and allspice). Spend a day relaxing on Grand Anse Beach, which is consistently ranked one of the best in the world. Island-hop to neighboring isles like Petite Martinique, or spend a day snorkeling one of Grenada’s famous reefs.
  • Anguilla : Anguilla is one of the most tranquil Leeward islands. Escape to Dream Bay or one of the numerous nearby coral cays for some supreme R&R. A diving and snorkeling mecca, Anguilla is home to some of the Caribbean’s best shipwreck dives. Plus, the island boasts a calendar of must-see festivals and events, including a jazz festival in November and Carnival in August.

Why Charter a Yacht in the Caribbean?

The best Caribbean yacht charters offer a bit of everything: Relaxation, sun-soaked beaches, delicious culinary treats, refreshing rum-infused cocktails, and calm waters for cruising. Here are some highlights:

The Inescapable Beauty of White-Sand Beaches

Caribbean beaches have almost a mythical quality to them. It’s no wonder explorers were once willing to board wooden ships and travel thousands of miles just to see them in person.

Every island offers a selection of untouched and charming beaches for you to explore. From one-of-a-kind places like “Pig Beach” in the Bahamas to the cosmopolitan Great Bay Beach in Philipsburg, St. Martin, the beaches across the Caribbean offer legendary sights and attractions.

Colorful Celebrations and Friendly Faces

The Caribbean is known for its parades, bars, nightclubs, and parties, not to mention world-famous cocktails. When you want to step off of your luxury yacht charter, Caribbean shores and islands offer a world of fun to immerse yourself in.

A few must-see events include the St. Barth’s Bucket (if you’re into superyacht racing), the annual Carnival celebration, and the St. Lucia Jazz & Arts Festival .

Amazing Wildlife and Adventure

If snorkeling in vibrant and colorful coral reefs, diving into underwater museums, or parasailing over clear waters are some of the items on your bucket list, you can certainly get it all done during your visit to the Caribbean.

You’ll find a variety of unique adventures, from the underwater sculpture park of the Grenadines to the natural seaside baths in Virgin Gorda and hiking the Pitons in St. Lucia. The Caribbean gives you to plenty of chances to get outside and enjoy yourself.

Nonstop Relaxation

Because the area is so close to the equator, the Caribbean offers warm weather to lounge in all year round. Feel pampered aboard a luxury crewed rental yacht, and then feel calm while sinking your toes into soft, powdery white sand. Enjoy the spas, rum cocktails, and quiet, isolated beaches: Charter guests can experience supreme relaxation in the Caribbean.

Caribbean Yacht Booking Guide:

Caribbean Yacht Charters: At a Glance

Are the bahamas and the caribbean the same thing, popular destinations for yacht rentals in the caribbean, popular sub-regions in the caribbean, highlights of a caribbean yacht charter, who goes on a caribbean yacht charter, history and culture, types of yacht charters in the caribbean, how much does it cost to charter a yacht in the caribbean, when is the best time for caribbean yacht charters, where should i begin my caribbean yacht charter, popular marinas and moorings in the caribbean, how to book your yacht charter in the caribbean.

The Caribbean Sea comprises more than 7,000 islands, islets, reefs and cays, and is divided into three island arcs: that of the Greater Antilles in the north, the Lesser Antilles in the south, and the Leeward Antilles to the east.

Tropical islands of the Caribbean

  • Ideal winter destination Boasting all-year-round pleasant weather, its powdery sand beaches and alluringly clear waters make it an especially popular choice for winter yacht charters.
  • Easy-to-reach The Caribbean is well-connected to the US, with a high number of international airports flying directly into the region.
  • Secluded anchorages With more than 7,000 islands and only a small percentage being inhabited, the world is your oyster when it comes to finding serenely beautiful anchorages.
  • Snorkeling and diving paradise The Caribbean is home to some of the world's most impressive snorkeling and diving sites, meaning plenty of exciting underwater adventures where your eyes will be wide with wonder.
  • Excellent superyacht marinas The Caribbean has numerous well-provisioned superyacht marinas to take your pick from, many of which have fantastic dining and shopping opportunities.

7 of the best beaches in the Virgin Islands

While the Bahamas is technically part of the Caribbean region, it is an island nation in its own right, forming part of the Lucayan Archipelago in the Atlantic. That said, the Caribbean is a vast area occupied by thousands of islands, coral reefs and islets, of which the Bahamas forms a part, along with strong political and cultural ties that have created a natural bond with its Caribbean neighbour.

Practically speaking, however, if you are interested in cruising  the Bahamas  in conjunction with your Caribbean yacht charter, it is highly unlikely you'll be able to manage the distance during a typical 7-day charter, especially for itineraries that incorporate East Caribbean destinations such as Antigua and Saint Martin. You will need to decide which destination you prefer to spend your time in, or extend your charter vacation to incorporate both.

To find out more about chartering in the region, check out our in-depth Bahamas destination guide for more information.

Tropical beach in the Pitons, St Lucia in the Caribbean

The most popular destinations for renting a yacht in the Caribbean are those located in the Lesser Antilles region, primarily the island groups of the Leeward Islands.  and the  Windward Islands .

For Leeward Island yacht rentals , Antigua, the Virgin Islands, St Martin, St Barts and St Kitts and Nevis garner the most attention, thanks to not only their splendid tropical landscapes but also their extremely well-provisioned superyacht marinas, fine dining options, impossibly hip bars and medley of designer boutiques bound to keep guests entertained from dawn till dusk.

Scattered like pearls along the aquamarine seas, you'll find sun-drenched Martinique, gorgeous Grenada and the ultra-secluded St Vincent and the Grenadines  are the top picks for slow-paced  Windward Island yacht charters .

Although not as popular, the islands that form the Greater Antilles , such as Jamaica, Cuba and Puerto Rico , are just as beautiful and offer an array of spectacular destinations to explore and discover on a luxury yacht charter.

  • St Croix, US Virgin Islands : The largest of the USVIs boasts a National Park, breath-taking scenic beauty and some of the best dive spots in the Caribbean.

For anyone looking to get a dose of serious sunshine during the Northern Hemisphere winter, a yacht charter in the Caribbean is a seriously enticing prospect, with St Barts being the clear favorite for Christmas and New Year's Eve, thanks to the showstopping celebrations that take place in Gustavia Harbour.

For avid island hoppers, the Windward islands offer an enchanting itinerary full of sun-kissed isles and laid back charm juxtaposed with chic resorts and heavenly French-based cuisine, not to mention unrivalled vistas and sultry sunsets accompanied by warm rum-laced winds.

Across all Caribbean destinations, keen divers and snorkelers will be in for a subaquatic treat, and you'll find a wide range of designer boutiques and ultra-high-end resorts peppered across the isles wherever you go.

A dancer wearing a lavish costume of peacock feathers

The Caribbean is a mesmerizing melting pot of cultures and influences, rooted in its rich heritage and undeniably shaped by its history of colonization and waves of immigration. Each island group is highly diverse in terms of its language, music, customs, architecture and cuisine, but it's mainly English, Dutch, French or Spanish colonial influences that are keenly felt. While the mix of languages spoken will differ between island groups, English is widely spoken.

Caribbean cuisine sees influences from Africa, Europe, Latin America and Spain, Meat, seafood, coconut, potatoes, beans and tomatoes tend to feature heavily in local dishes.

Locals are friendly and regularly celebrate their culture, with music, food and wildly colorful festivals held throughout the year.

A luxury yacht rental vacation in the Caribbean is, without doubt, the most sublime way to experience this region, giving you exclusive access to heavenly anchorages that are otherwise impossible to reach or are far from the typical tourist trail.

Guests have boundless fleet options when it comes to a crewed Caribbean charter. If you don't know whether to go for a motor yacht, sailing yacht or catamaran to cruise Caribbean waters, we've laid out the main points worth considering.

Motor Yacht Charters in the Caribbean

Large Super Yachts moored in a marina in the Caribbean

A  luxury motor yacht charter  in the Caribbean is a seven-star way of uncovering the epic beauty of the Caribbean in total privacy.

For regions with minimal water depth the ideal choice is a motor yacht with low draft, perfect for accessing shallow lagoons and secluded bays.

For those who have their heart set on a superyacht without a shallow draft, dropping anchor further out into deeper waters and then getting a tender ride ashore, so you can get up close and personal to exquisite island reefs and blue lagoons, is the preferred option.

Sailing Yacht Charters in the Caribbean

Yachts in Antigua, Caribbean

Chartering a sailing yacht in the Caribbean is ideal for guests looking for a slower pace to fully lap up the Caribbean rays with more outdoor deck space, and add a little old-school charm to their cruising adventure.

Even better, the majority of sailing charter yachts come equipped with a retractable keel, meaning reaching turquoise shallows is a breeze. But, if you are keen to charter a larger sailing yacht, keep in mind that some may still find their draft too deep for some areas, even with the keel up.

Catamaran Charters in the Caribbean

Catamarans in the Caribbean

Luxury catamaran charters are a firm guest favourite for those embarking on Caribbean vacation, especially in the Bahamas and the Virgin Islands. Thanks to their shallow draft, catamarans give you the ability to get close to cays and islets guests can savor the thrilling feeling of being able to jump off-board at almost any point.

The charter cost of a motor yacht, sailing yacht or luxury catamaran rental in the Caribbean will vary according to the vessel's size, age, type, number of crew, as well as the location and duration of the vacation as well as the season it takes place.

With so many options available, there’s something to suit every type of budget. For convenience we have listed the average prices for motor yacht and sailing yacht charters in the Caribbean below;

  • For motor yacht rentals in the Caribbean, prices can range from $39,167 to $1.4m per week, plus expenses
  • For luxury sailing yacht rentals in the Caribbean, prices can go from $29,855 to $276,495 weekly, plus expenses

Caribbean beach at sunset

The best time for luxury yacht charters in the Caribbean is between November and March, when guests can expect clement weather and vividly blue cloudless skies.

Another aspect to keep in mind is that this is also the time when you will have the largest selection of yachts to choose from, as most charter yachts descend on the Caribbean around November after the Mediterranean season has ended and any yacht maintenance has been carried out, before returning back to the Mediterranean in March/April.

Port de Gustavia in St Barts, Caribbean

The most popular starting point for a Caribbean yacht rental is usually in either Saint Martin/Sint Maarten or  Antigua,  both of which have international airports.

It is certainly possible to begin your charter in other Caribbean destinations, providing this has been agreed with the Owner and charter broker .

Where to End a Caribbean Yacht Charter

For most private Caribbean yacht charters, there isn't one definitive place where to disembark given the vastness of the region. However, what is likely is that you will finish your yacht rental vacation in the same location that you started. For example, the majority of  British Virgin Island yacht charters will begin and end in St Thomas, while for Antigua yacht charters , it'll be the iconic English Harbour.

Yachts moored in a marina in the Caribbean

The Caribbean offers some of the most spellbinding berthing spots in the world. These tropical, barefoot hotspots are of the finest calibre, surrounded by jaw-dropping scenery, and often feature award-winning restaurants, hip boutiques, beach bars and more.

But which marinas are the best? Below are some charter favorites:

  • Falmouth Harbour, Antigua: impressive marina facilities and scenery, catering to yachts up to 100m.
  • Marina Fort Louis, Saint Martin: offers 150 berths for yachts up to 79m.
  • Crown Bay in St Thomas (USVI): full-serviced marina with 99 slips, including 16 berths for superyachts up to 60m
  • Port Louis Marina, Grenada: idyllically located, with 227 moorings for yachts up to 91m.
  • Port de Gustavia, Saint Barts: widely regarded as one of the most beautiful natural harbours in the world, accommodating up to 152 yachts up to 152m.
  • Puerto Del Rey, Puerto Rico : conveniently located as a jumping off point for yacht charters incorporating the Virgin Islands and Lesser Antilles, this marina has plentiful wet slips, including capacity for yachts up to 200ft (60m) LOA.

Falmouth Harbour in the Caribbean

We strongly advise booking through a qualified  yacht charter broker at least three months in advance for all Caribbean yacht charters. By doing so, you will increase the likelihood of securing your preferred dates and you will have a greater selection of yachts on offer to choose from.

This also ensures your yacht broker has enough time to craft a carefully curated itinerary and secure an overnight berth in the most popular Caribbean marinas.

Caribbean Yacht Charter Q&A

The best time to visit the Caribbean is generally December to April, when it's a little cooler and less humid. But the best month to visit can differ depending on the island, budget and interests you have. For example, some yacht charter guests may decide to visit May to June and late November, when weather is still fantastic but there are fewer crowds.

We advise booking your Caribbean yacht rental at least three months in advance to ensure you get the yacht you desire. The longer you leave it, the fewer choices you will have to rent in the Caribbean.

For your Caribbean superyacht charter, you will need to provide a completed charter agreement and 50% of the charter fee as a deposit. This is payable once the contract has been signed.

When booking a Caribbean yacht rental, do keep in mind the costs that aren't included in the base rate, namely VAT and the APA (Advance Provisioning Allowance). The APA is usually paid in advance of the charter and is commonly set at 30% of the charter fee. This allowance covers expenses such as fuel, berthing, food and drinks, as well as any special requests.

Please consult your yacht charter broker for any other costs you may need to factor in for your yacht charter in the Caribbean.

Motor Yachts

This category of Caribbean yachts include mega yachts, super yachts, and all sizes of power yachts. With the maximum space for guests, both inside and out, these types of yachts offer excellent vacations. You can choose from a fast, agile yacht, one that is high-end and luxurious, a yacht with a classic design, or one that is contemporary. This is one of the many choices you’ll have when you plan your vacation. See some yachts:-

Crewed Catamarans are very popular in the Caribbean , especially in the BVIs. Catamarans offer ample deck space that allows everyone to relax together during their charter, sharing the same views throughout the voyage. Caribbean catamarans can typically accommodate between 6 and 12 guests. See some yachts:-

Charter a yacht in the BVI's

The British Virgin Islands include Tortola, Jost Van Dyke, Virgin Gorda, and more. There’s no better way to experience the waters and beaches of the BVI's than on a private Caribbean charter with a full crew to pamper you. Of all the islands in the Caribbean, the Virgins are furthest north. This makes them very convenient due to the proximity to San Juan and due to their direct flights from the United States. Catamaran sailing vacations and crewed sailing charters are very popular in the islands, and their protected waters make them a favorite spot for guests that are taking their first private Caribbean yacht charter. To learn more about them:

Charter a yacht in the USVI

The U.S. Virgin Islands consist mainly of the three large islands of St. Thomas, St. Croix, and St. John. With lovely bays, long beaches, lush nature preserves, fabulous diving spots, and excellent, onshore evening entertainment, many choose to vacation in the USVI’s. Caribbean charters often visit both the BVI’s and USVI’s during the same week, as they are close to one another and the waters are generally calmer than in other parts of the Caribbean. They in general are also home to the largest fleet of crewed, all-inclusive, luxury catamarans. To find out more about them:

Charter a Caribbean yacht

The Leewards are situated in the middle of the Caribbean Island chain. The major airports are located on St. Maarten and Antigua. Due to the English, Dutch, and French influences everywhere you look, they exhibit the best example of cultural sophistication anywhere within the Caribbean. If you are looking to see where the rich and famous go on vacation, you will want to visit the island of St. Barts; for many this is a must stop for a Caribbean yacht charter. Many mega yachts are available for rental in St. Maarten, as it has become a popular mega yacht Caribbean base for the winter. To learn more about the Leewards:

Grenadines

The Grenadines are also called The Windward Islands. Oftentimes our guests will choose a sailing charter over a motor yacht when in the Grenadines, due to the more constant tropical breezes that occur. The islands are much less developed than the rest of the Caribbean, and the inhabitants live on their own time schedule, which enhances the feeling of getting away. The northern most island accessible by air is ST. Vincent, while the southern tip’s major airport is on Grenada. There are fewer Caribbean charter yachts based here; however, occasionally some charter yachts are happy to relocate in order to offer a vacation that happens a little off the beaten path. To find out more about the Grenadines:

What Type of Charter Yacht?

There are all types of Caribbean yacht charters available, including mega yachts, power yachts, catamarans, and sailboats. We have helped countless clients choose the right charter yacht, learning what features and amenities make a difference on caribbean charter yachts. Learn more about different types of Caribbean yachts.

Where Can You Go?

Typically you’ll choose between the Virgins, Leewards, and the Grenadines to charter your yacht. Beyond the region, it is your Caribbean to explore. It’s important for you to remember that there is no cruise ship itinerary to worry about! Your itinerary will be custom designed specifically for you, with you, and is flexible to changes during your charter. We have put together some samples for you to get an idea of what you might like to do while on vacation in the Caribbean. Interested in seeing a sample cruise itinerary ?

Caribbean Charters - When To Go.

One of the lovely things about the Caribbean is that the temperatures remain consistent throughout the year; however, there are some other weather considerations that you will want to factor in when making your caribbean yachting vacation plans. Read More....

Vacations here are most popular between November and July.

If you are thinking of a megayacht, you will want to keep in mind that many of these private yachts which are Caribbean based in winter leave in the late spring and early summer months. They will return again in early winter; however, this does limit their availability. To charter a mega yacht, you will want to make sure that you do so well in advance.

Motor, sail, or catamaran yachts, on the other hand, often have selections available year round. Holidays like Christmas, New Year’s, and Easter do need to be planned for as early as possible as these are very popular charter times.

The availability for Caribbean charters can also be affected by the weather in other climates, for instance, when the severity of the weather is bad in the United States or Europe, especially between January and February, the charters are often booked. This is due to many clients looking for a break from the cold.

What Do Our Clients Say About The Caribbean?

Are you excited yet? You should be! Our clients have enjoyed fantastic Caribbean vacations. There is an endless number of places to visit in the Caribbean, from smaller islands to absolutely must be seen locations like St. Barts. Read some of our Caribbean charter reviews from clients who booked a Caribbean charter with us.

New to charter?

The Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) is due at the time of the final charter payment. Under MYBA terms, this sum is usually equivalent to 30 per cent of the total charter fee, but may be up to 40 per cent in some cases.

Intended to cover the operating expenses of a charter as explained under Charter Terms, such as fuel, food, drinks, port fees and ad hoc incidentals, the APA will be given to the captain before the start of your charter. The Captain will ensure that the yacht is fully fuelled and provisioned when you step on board. While an up-to-date summary of accounts can be requested at any time during your charter, a full set of accounts will normally be submitted by your captain at the end of the cruise. If, during the charter, the expenditure exceeds the sum already paid, additional cash funds will be required at once.

All outstanding bills from the yacht charter should be settled in cash or by bank transfer before your final disembarkation. Of course, any remaining credit at the end of your charter will be reimbursed to you in full. On request, transfer arrangements to and from the yacht can be made by Burgess or by the yacht’s captain, payment for which will be deducted from your APA.

Color and Contrast: the Complete Sailboat Vacation

Simply the perfect place to take a bareboat or skippered sailing holiday. Such a diverse collection of islands dotting the clear blue sea, each with its own unique appeal. Local cultures that fascinate and entertain, offering a welcome that keeps charterers returning to these waters year after year. With its 7,000 Islands and 28 Island nations, reliable trade winds and long sailing season, the Caribbean is a region that offers an endless amount of holiday enjoyment.

At Sail Connections, we work with all the best charter operators in the Caribbean, sorting through all the available boats and presenting all the best options to suit your vacation plans. Some of our operators offer extra services that are unique to their destinations. We personalize your proposal and give you the benefit of our knowledge and local contacts, to deliver a fabulous sailing holiday wherever there's a boat to charter in the Caribbean.

Charter Sailing in the Caribbean

The Caribbean's numerous islands give you so many fabulous places to explore, so many diverse cultures to experience, that the permutations for planning a sailing charter are simply too numerous to list. The sailing distances between territories can be very short, and there are countless yacht charter bases scattered across the region. That opens the door to all manner of opportunities – from a seven-day sail around one distinct island nation to a multi-week one-way charter that takes in a wide variety of cultures and geographical features.

The Caribbean yacht charter season is busy from November through July. The peak season is mid-December to March, when winter escapees from North America and Europe arrive in their greatest numbers.

The hurricane season arrives late July and can last until early October, although storms here are rare and tend to deflect northwards towards the USA rather than hit the Caribbean. These months have their advantages in that they are the least costly for chartering, particularly in the British Virgin Islands. At that time of year it is in fact more likely to encounter light winds than it is storms.

As with many yacht charter locations, the shoulder season can be the best time to charter a yacht. In the Carribean that's from April to July. There are less shore-based visitors then, yet you can expect settled and sunny weather with warm, steady breezes prevailing.

We have access to over 30 charter bases in the region, from where you can take a sailboat vacation like no other. We select from the best boats available and guide you into the ideal sailing adventure that matches your interests and level of experience. The sailing options here are just about endless. Hopefully these pages will help you on your way to your much-anticipated Caribbean sailing holiday.

Regional Map of the Main Charter Sailing Areas

A One-way Cruise: Martinique to Grenada

There are quite simply countless itinerary options for sailing the caribbean. for many charterers a downwind cruise offers the crew conditions for maximum enjoyment. so here's a sample north to south course plan that gives you the prevailing breeze abaft. .

Martinique waterfront

Waterfront at Fort de France, Martinique's largest town

Sailing from Martinique to Grenanda you can expect winds primarily from the northeast, especially around peak season either side of Christmas. Sailing this course involves short stretches of open water, with a stiff and steady breeze on your aft quarter. That makes for quick passages with most enjoyable sailing to a choice of Islands, whether it be for a lunch stop and a snorkel, or an overnight stay.

The eastern Caribbean islands that form a distinctive arc on the map are collectively the Lesser Antilles, a mixture of soverign states and territories governed by various powers. A trip along some of this chain exposes the voyager to a wide variety of cultures and customs in places that all sit in the idyllic picture-postcard surroundings of the movies and travel brochures.

Starting in Martinique and sailing south, you are exploring the Windward Island group of the Antilles.

Tobago-cays

Wildlife viewing at its finest in the Tobago Cays

Like most of this group, Martinique was orginally colonised by France, and French flair is still in evidence there today. Martinique offers excellent on-shore facilities for the visitor, and is a popular base for boat charters. The island is mountainous, but with plenty of white sandy beaches to enjoy, especially in the south.

The next island is St Lucia. It's some 30 nautical miles to Rodney Bay on St Lucia's northwest, so to get there requires an early start. There are several top spots to visit down the island's sheltered western coast. Take time out to investigate Les Deux Pitons.

Another long but relaxing sail to St Vincent and the Grenadines, so-named because of their joint French and British colonial history. St Vincent has its Blue Lagoon that you'll probably overnight in, while the Grenadines island group, some of which confusingly belong to Grenada, provide numerous anchoring options.

Grenadines

Happy charterers enjoying their time ashore in the Grenadines

The Grenadines stretch all the way to Grenada, your final port of call, making this part of the voyage very convenient for a leisurely sail. Call in at one of the uninhabited Tobago cays for a real taste of desert island living, if only for a few hours.

Once offshore Carriacou you are in Grenadan territory. Grenada, like St Lucia & St Vincent and the Grenadines, is now an independent member of the British Commonwealth, but with historical French influence. This is the 'Island of Spice' where nutmeg and mace production are important to the economy. As is tourism, and there is plenty to entertain you before concluding your vacation and departing these fabulous sailing waters.

Once you have experienced all the pleasures of sailing the Caribbean, chances are you'll be back one day for more.

BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS

The British Virgin Islands’ sprawling volcanic archipelago is the true essence of the Caribbean. Here, relaxation and discovery go hand in hand among the mango trees, coconut palms and silky beaches. Adventure is at the drop of an anchor as you set foot onto uninhabited islands during island-hopping escapes and witness an underwater world of unspoiled reefs and unique wreck dives.

US VIRGIN ISLANDS

The Virgin Islands is a great sailing vacation destination for first time sailors and families as there are many crewed private yachts available to charter and the light trade winds and protected bays make for a fun, safe playground for kids and adults alike.

Pristine beaches, warm blue seas, and sizzling scents – the Bahamas, the super tropical neighbor of nearby Florida, are a luxury traveler's dream. And with more than 700 islands and 2,400 cays, this is a true Caribbean playground.

ST VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES

A cluster of islands each more breathtakingly beautiful than the last, St Vincent and the Grenadines has always been there to indulge our need to island hop. Bequia, Canouan, Mayreau, Petite St Vincent, the Tobago Cays; we can think of nothing better than a luxury vacation in the Grenadines spent sailing around these stunning islands where our only concern would be where to drop anchor for an afternoon swim.

December 27, 2022

We had the BEST vacation on "Sol Liv". Captain James and Chef Robyn were easy and fun to be around, and provided wonderful - and seemingly effortless- hospitality. The boat was beautiful, spotless, and spacious and somehow never seemed crowded--plenty of room to spread out and catch a nap when sailing. In addition to sailing the boat, Captain James was a master-bartender; he created a different "captain's cocktail" (aka "sundowners") each day, even providing the kids with beautiful nonalcoholic versions. And Robyn--she is truly a master chef. The creations that she made were not just visually stunning, but delicious as well. The four kids on the boat had a blast; in addition to swimming and snorkeling, they had jousting competitions on the paddleboards, and even tried to catch one of the tarpons that orbited the boat at night (no luck). I am so grateful to have been on this trip.

We just finished our 8 day bareboat charter on Voyages 590e "Miles Away" and had an amazing time. Everything from the boat itself, to the Voyage staff and the experience of being in the BVI was simply incredible. Highly recommend Voyage as they are a boutique family owned charter company that focuses on customer satisfaction first! Check them out !!

This was our second charter with Voyage and just like the first it was a phenomenal experience! They tailored the itinerary and menus to what our group requested. The boat was clean and in pristine condition. The layout was so well thought out. We had 12 people in our party and never felt crowded on Sol Liv. Tony and Claudia took great care of us and made sure we all had fun. We have experienced other charter companies before and it is not the same as Voyage. We will definitely travel with Voyage again in the future!

My family and I just got back from a sailing trip in the BVIs with Voyage Charters and, although I had never been sailing and had no idea what to expect going in, it exceeded all expectations I could have ever had. Our boat was named Sol Liv and it was BEAUTIFUL and so fancy! There were 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms, not including crew quarters. Even though we had a family of 11 onboard, we never felt crowded and like we were constantly on top of each other. We also had our own Chef (Danielle, Denzie as Ryan calls her) and Captain (Ryan) who were both incredible. They knew the islands very well and always had a super fun day planned for us. My mom went into the trip with a few places she wanted to see/visit, which were accommodated, but some of the stops were places Ryan and Danielle recommended which we really appreciated since they are locals to the area! Danielle, was outstanding and made the most delicious meals with recipes I had never had before. Every meal we had was delicious and I am still in awe that she was able to cook that efficiently for 11 people. She would even go into town to acquire local foods so that everything was nice and fresh. I hope she makes a cookbook because I need those recipes! The Captain, Ryan, was also wonderful and went above and beyond to take us to the best spots in the BVIs. He was always ready with the dinghy to take us to shore whenever we wanted. He also went out of his way to take us on 2 separate hikes to places he thought we would like and had pretty views (first along the ridge on Norman Island, then at Cane Garden Bay). My brother and mom also lost their sunglasses in the water and Ryan went down and retrieved them for them. Danielle and Ryan were such a hospitable crew and felt like part of the family the whole trip (they even joined us for family game night 😊 ). I highly recommend Voyage Charters, especially if you have Ryan and Danielle onboard. We will definitely be back and will request this dynamic duo!!

My family and I recently returned from 8 days aboard "Electrified" with Captain Tony and his wonderful wife and Chef, Claudia, and had the most amazingly wonderful time! There was plenty for all of us to do - my kids are 14, 12 and 8, and it was the perfect mix of a relaxing and active vacation. Captain Tony knew of our interests from the Preference Packet ahead of time and set a course of travel through the BVIs based on our interests. Once he got to know us even better during the trip, at various times he asked us our preference of activities and was flexible to amend the schedule to accommodate our interests. His sailing expertise made us ALL feel very comfortable and relaxed! (We had never lived on a boat before!) Chef Claudia made delicious meals for us every day! She too had carefully read our Preference Sheets and knew what types of food my family likes best. The variety and depth of the food was amazing, and the timing of when we eat was always perfect! Together, they created a vacation that included lots of snorkeling, swimming, sunning, paddle-boarding, kayaking, and hiking (when we stopped on land). They know the BVIs so well so therefore knew all the best places - both known and less known!, and shared those with us. Not only was it a vacation we will never forget, but I am confident we will be lifelong friends with Tony and Claudia! Thank you Voyage Charters for the trip of a lifetime!

Truly you can never have a bad experience sailing with Voyage! We have sailed with Voyage Yacht Charters for almost 20 years and each trip has been exceptional. From the planning to preparing to answering questions, Shawn makes everything easy before you arrive at Soper's Hole. Then once you get to the marina, the entire Voyage team ensures that your experience is first rate from the moment you step on their dock until the final wave goodbye. Whether it is your first time sailing (like our entire crew) or your 20th year, Voyage makes you feel like family and does everything possible to ensure you have a great trip.

Just spent a week on power cat “Out of Office” with Captain Blade and Chef Jena. I can hardly put into words how AMAZING this trip was. The boat, the service, the food, the snorkeling, the restaurants & bars - everything exceeded our expectations. Blade & Jena were both exceptional, and absolutely made our trip. Jena’s food was five star - every single meal!! We all can’t stop talking about it. Can’t wait to repeat this vacation…hopefully sooner rather than later. If you’re on the fence, book the trip! You won’t regret it. Thanks Voyage, Blade and Jena for the memories that will last a lifetime.

BVI 7-Day Sail. Voyage is a wonderfully managed family business. The 590's layout is superb, and after shopping around other charter companies it's evident that Voyage's building their own boats based on charter business feedback is what sets this boat apart. Jena is a great chef and Stephan is an accommodating and fun captain.

We just returned from One of the best trips we have ever taken. We spent a week sailing the BVI and could not say enough about this trip the boat was gorgeous, the staff was friendly accommodating and it was first class service all around. We had used another charter company in the past and were apprehensive about even going on another sale trip but after getting off of the boat last week let's just say… We already have reserved the same boat the same week next year! Thank you voyage for the amazing experience.

We couldn’t have asked for a better trip with Voyage Charters. Each person in our group, consisting of the grandparents, a grand daughter, and a friend, had an amazing individual experience thanks to Captain Ryan and Chef Danielle’s kindness, hospitality, and dedication to what they do. We enjoyed every meal, which were all uniquely creative and a true display of Danielle’s God-given talent. She did an excellent job of catering to each person’s needs and dietary restrictions. Captain Ryan worked very hard to ensure that we experienced as much as we could in our 7-day trip, methodically planning our island hopping and our activities both on and off the boat. We embarked on our voyage during the week of Christmas, and were very impressed with the extra mile they took to make our holiday feel like one at home. As we head off the boat this morning, we’re already missing the fun times with Ryan and Danielle. We will cherish the scenery, hospitality, memories, meals, and new friendships forevermore.

It is one of the largest islands  of the Lesser Antilles in the Caribbean, and a thriving metropolis of  French-Creole style. First discovered by the Western world in 1493,  Guadeloupe hosts a variety of French tradition while blending with its  ancestral roots. Choosing Guadeloupe for your first sailing vacation is  the best decision you can make this year.

Guadeloupe is the perfect place to discover your love for the  Caribbean with a catamaran charter or sailing yacht vacation. When you  choose 12 Knots, you have a selection of many different professionally  maintained yachts, fully equipped to handle the open waters or allow you  to hop around to different destinations on the island at your own  leisure. We want to ensure your Guadeloupe yacht charter is memorable  and enjoyable, and take every step to ensure your sailing vacation is  held to the highest standards of excellence. Read on to discover more  about the opportunities awaiting you with boat rentals in Guadeloupe.

Geography and Wildlife

Guadeloupe is the southernmost island of the Leeward chain, and  can be identified on the map by its unique butterfly shape. Guadeloupe  is the common name for two distinct islands, the Basse-Terre Island and  Grande-Terre. These islands are separated by a small sea channel known  as the La Riviere Salee, or “Salt River.” On the island, you may  encounter a variety of ecosystems, from secluded sandy beaches to  tropical rainforests and towering volcanic cliffs.

One active volcano presides over Guadeloupe, the "La Soufrière." It  is located in southern Basse-Terre, and has powerful eruptions that  wiped out Guadeloupe’s landscapes in the past. However, its last  eruption was in 1976, and it poses little threat to the locals and  travelling sailors today. La Soufrière is one structure in a volcanic  complex called the Carmichael volcanoes.

Though much of the land is covered in lush tropical forests,  Guadeloupe has been settled extensively on the coastline. Grand Terre is  a shopping hub with beautiful beach resorts, while Basse Terre is home  to many small farms and plantations, supplying bananas, eggplant,  pineapple and sugarcane products to its population. This once  uninhabited island is now a major contributor to tourism and trade in  the Caribbean, and an ideal place for beginner sailors to go on their  first yacht charter experience.

Guadeloupe is also the home territory for exotic sea life and island  animals. Unfortunately, this area has been over-hunted, and many  wildlife populations are struggling to recover. Some of the protected  species include the Lesser Antillean iguana and the agouti (a large  native rodent). However, sea life thrives in the Caribbean, and while  you snorkel or sail you may catch a glimpse of several different  dolphin, whale, sea turtle, manatee and fish species. Birds are also  highly populated on the island. Birdwatchers are in for a treat on  Guadeloupe hikes and nature trails, as rare species such as the  Antillean Nighthawk, Guadeloupe Black Woodpecker, and Lesser Antillean  Macaw can be found.

If you are interested in seeing some of these landscapes and wildlife  populations up close, take a natural tour of the island with one of the  national parks, reserves, or wildlife tour companies. Many places offer  canoe and kayak tours, animal encounters, and miles of nature trails  which you can trek individually or with a tour guide. Guadeloupe is the  perfect place for nature-lovers to explore and discover what is so  special about the Caribbean island and its habitats.

The first known people to inhabit Guadeloupe were the Arawaks,  an island tribe that scattered throughout the Caribbean islands. They  called the island Karukera, or "The Island of Beautiful Waters." As the  Arawak civilization started to decline, the Caribs moved to the island  to stake their claim in the bounty and fertile grounds that were  plentiful on Guadeloupe.

On his second exhibition, Christopher Columbus found Guadeloupe and  named it after the Virgin Mary, “Santa María de Guadalupe.” However, as  more nations started to colonize North America and the Caribbean  islands, the Spanish lost control of Guadeloupe to the French. The  French settled on Guadeloupe until 1759 when the British seized the  island. In 1763, the French and British signed the Treaty of Paris,  which gave France control of Guadeloupe once more, as it ended the Seven  Years War. However, the British and French, and even the Swedes fought  over the island until The Treaty of Vienna was signed in 1815, giving  France final control of Guadeloupe.

During colonization, much emphasis was placed on the sugar trade.  Hundreds of plantations arose, and Guadeloupe became a primary exporter  of sugar and rum. Guadeloupe exported more sugar than all the British  islands combined. In total, the sugar trade in Guadeloupe during the  1700s was worth about £6 million ($8.01 million) per year. While sugar  is still produced on the island, Guadeloupe’s primary export item is  bananas and other local fruits.

Guadeloupe has a very unique culture. It’s blend of French  influence and Caribbean authenticity makes their signature Creole style  one of a kind. The official language of Guadeloupe is French, however  most of the population speaks a specific dialect of Antillean Creole. A  majority of the population is Roman Catholic, however indigenous  religious influence makes their worship and culture much different from  Western Catholicism. Along the streets you’ll find a charming mix of  French cafes and bistros and classic Caribbean restaurants serving  spiced and savory West Indian cuisine.

Guadeloupe is well known for its people’s literary achievements.  Several well known poets and authors originate from Guadeloupe, the most  renown being Saint-John Perse (Alexis Léger). This French diplomat and  avid poet won the 1960 Nobel Prize in Literature. In addition to  literature, Guadeloupe has a vibrant musical scene, both in traditional  dance music and modern pop tunes. Most music of Guadeloupe is a blend of  African, French and Indian influence. Unlike many cultures, a majority  of music is sung in the native language, Guadeloupean Creole. Dance is  an important part of music as well; popular styles include zouk,  zouk-love, and kompa.

As part of the French islands, Guadeloupe is also a vibrant area for  fashion. Though French fashion isn’t as prevalent here as it is on other  islands, the influence of fine European clothing is still prevalent.  However, traditional garments are still worn in celebration and ancient  religious practices. Women wear a unique style of traditional dress, one  that is colorful, layered, and reserved for special occasions. During  festivals and celebrations women also wear madras, which are special  headdresses with the same vibrant patterns and fabrics as the dresses.  Gold jewelry is the traditional accessory, and the styles of jewelry are  heavily influenced by European,

African and Indian cultures.

If you’re visiting Guadeloupe for the first time, you’re likely going  to want to shop and eat at the local destinations rather than  frequenting the tourist traps. This island, like many others in the  Caribbean, is well known for ist artisan crafts and unique treasures to  take home with you. Each city has its own speciality, from artisan  crafts to specialty dishes made from local produce. FOr example, Pointe  Noire is the place to go for quality woodwork. La Broderie de Vieux-Fort  is where to visit of you want to shop for embroidered products, and  Saint Francois has its claim to fame with coconut sculptures. Each town  will have its own artisans and shops that you will surely want to  experience.

Nearby Islands

If you are planning a yacht charter in Guadeloupe, there are  several nearby islands, beaches, and nature preserves within a day  sailing that are incredibly unique. You won’t regret sailing towards  Dominica where secluded beaches and dense rainforest can be discovered.  Or, if you’re eager to face more challenging waters, head north to the  islands of Antigua, Nevis and St. Kitts. Wherever you land there may be  beautiful beaches, stunning mountain views, or something else you never  knew was out there.

Guadeloupe is part of a Caribbean archipelago consisting of five  islands: Basse-Terre, Grande-Terre, Marie-Galante, Les Saintes, and La  Desirade. All of these are fairly easy to reach if you sail from  Guadeloupe, however the northern islands may require more sailing  experience as the trade winds are stronger. 12 Knots offers crew  assistance so you can venture off in whichever direction is calling you  the most during your yacht charter in Guadeloupe.

If you head south just 6nm, you can reach the islands of Marie  Galante and Les des Saintes. Both islands have bustling streets,  beautiful farmlands and a wealth of beaches for you to enjoy on your  trip. If you continue your trek south, you will eventually land on the  island of Dominica. Unlike Guadeloupe, Dominica was controlled by the  British until 1978 when it gained independence. It is known as the  “Nature Isle of the Caribbean.” Many plant and animal species are able  to thrive, especially because the island is still growing and forming,  as evidenced by the island’s hot spring, Boiling Lake. It is a beautiful  place for novice travellers and experienced sailors alike.

More experienced travellers are encouraged to sail further north.  Approximately 40nm from Guadeloupe you will meet the shores of Antigua,  where lush forests and mountainous crevices paint the lands. Antigua is a  perfect place to go snorkeling or lounge on the beach for some  relaxation time. If you continue on the northbound track, you will also  meet Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis islands. Each of these islands have  unique natural preserves, beaches and excursions that you and your  group will love.

Guadeloupe Attractions

If you don’t want to start sailing your first few days of the  Guadeloupe yacht charter, there are plenty of things to do on and near  the island that don’t require a days’ trip. Guadeloupe is home to many  historically and geographically significant sites, from historic rum  distilleries to beautiful national parks and forests. There is surely  something for everyone with boat rentals in Guadeloupe.

If you are a nature-lover, visit the Guadeloupe National Park in  Basse-Terre. This national park is also a world biosphere reserve by  UNESCO, and offers over 300 kilometers of hiking trails to see the  beautiful flora and fauna that inhabit the island. Trek up the La  Soufrière volcano, then on your way back visit the Carbet Falls, where  towering volcanic slopes give way to stunning waterfall views. Your path  will be lined with mahogany and bamboo trees, and some of the hundreds  of orchid species endemic to Guadeloupe.

Scuba diving and snorkeling are some of the most popular Caribbean  excursions, and there is no better place than Guadeloupe’s Jacques  Cousteau Underwater Reserve (Réserve Cousteau). This underwater reserve  sits just off the coast of Basse-Terre, near the Pigeon Island waters.  Beginners can snorkel the shallow reefs, or take a tour via glass bottom  boat,  while experienced divers are invited to explore the depths of  these beautiful waters. On your tour of Réserve Cousteau, you may find  sea turtles, parrotfish, barracuda, and hundreds of sea plants and  corals you may never have seen before.

Pointe-a-Pitre is the place for shopaholics and for finding the  perfect souvenir to take back home. In this busy town you can find   French luxuries, cosmetics, and jewelry in the Center Saint-John Perse,  while Saint-Antoine offers open air markets filled with Creole food,  hand crafts, and vendors dressed as vibrant as the art and clothing they  sell.

Guadeloupe, like most Caribbean islands, is known for its rum. If you  want to see historical distilleries and sample some of the Caribbean’s  finest spirits, take the ferry to visit Marie-Galante. Most tours start  at the “Hundred Mills Island,” where you will get an overview of the  history of colonization, the history of rum production, and a tour of  the distilleries as they functioned in the late 15th century. The  distilleries of Marie-Galante are famous because they contain 59%  alcohol by volume, whereas other Caribbean rums only contain 40-50% at  most. Famous distilleries such as the Distillerie Poisson (Père Labat)  and Bielle distillerie are popular tourist attractions for tasting and  purchasing a rum for back home.

Oyster Yachts on Caribbean Sailing Yacht Charters

This stunning cruising ground is everything you would imagine and so much more. In the British Virgin Islands (BVIs), Caribbean sailing yacht charter guests can spend their days snorkelling vibrant coral reefs before visiting the famous Soggy Dollar Bar - known for its intoxicating Painkiller cocktail - for a night you’ll never forget.

Caribbean sailing charters.

A sailing holiday in the Windward Islands makes for a bounty of wild experiences; allow the scent of exotic spice to enchant you as splash in Grenada’s crystal-clear waters, or discover real island living in Barbados.

In the Leeward Islands, St Kitts promises rugged adventure while  Caribbean sailing holidays  to Antigua offer a chic escape complete with Michelin-Star cuisine. The unspoiled Grenadines are the place to come if you seek undisturbed relaxation, the most untouched of all the Caribbean island groups.

Oyster offers sailing yacht charters exploring every one of these blissful regions. Read on to learn more.

CRUISING GUIDE: CARIBBEAN SAILING YACHT CHARTERS

The best time to visit the Caribbean by sailing yacht charter is between December and April. Although the region is known for having a permanently glorious climate, averaging between 24-29°C/75.2-84.2°F all year round, a visit during these months offers lower humidity and less chance of rainfall. It also falls outside of the June-November hurricane season. You can expect temperatures of around 26°C/78.8°F and blissfully calm waters, perfect for bathing away your troubles or getting your heart racing with some exhilarating watersports.

Some of the most popular times for crewed Caribbean sailing yacht charters include the Christmas and New Year’s period and the Easter weekend when the islands fill up with festivities. You will discover more secluded sailing destinations and deserted beaches outside of these peak holidays, but the festive magic is hard to beat. The choice is yours...

Maximising your island-hopping experience onboard a Carribean sailing yacht charter allows you to explore every little bay that takes your fancy. Drop anchor by tiny secluded coves and discover deserted islands where you really can get away from it all.

For skippered Caribbean sailing holidays, look no further than Oyster. Our beautiful boats are light and spacious with luxurious furnishings that prioritise comfort without compromising on practicality. Large windows below decks mean you’ll be able to spot every single palm tree that dots the horizon, while our highly-professional crew come equipped with a local’s knowledge of every part of the Caribbean.

Explore this stunning region on one of our  luxury sailing yachts , or read on to learn about sailing the beautiful island groups of the Caribbean.

Sailing in the British Virgin Islands

An iconic cruising ground for Carribean sailing holidays, the BVIs are not to be missed. With nightlife that will have you dancing until dawn, seafood restaurants with fresh tuna and gin-clear waters offering perfect conditions for snorkelling and diving, this is the epitome of island living. Sail out to the caves at Norman Island to swim amongst exotic sea life and marvel at the vibrant colours. For charter guests who want nothing more than to lie on the sand and relax, cruise over to Anguilla, where the island’s flat topography makes for some truly phenomenal beaches. As the sun begins to set, head to The Rum Bar at Cooper Island, or for those who want to party all night, why not hop between the many lively bars on Jost Van Dyke.

The BVIs provide a delightful climate throughout the peak charter season: a perfect escape from the colder weather of the Northern Hemisphere.

Sailing in the Windward Islands

The Windward Islands deliver surprise after surprise on any Carribean sailing holiday, with each island full of its own unique character. St Lucia promises a vibrant history and rugged landscape - hike the Pitons for some truly incredible views across the islands and out to sea. Bequia is considered by some as the perfect Caribbean island, its difficult to get to by aeroplane meaning it has been protected from mass tourism, preserving all of its natural beauty. Glamourous Mustique is the favourite holiday spot of A-List celebrities and supermodels. However, despite its famous visitors, this three-mile haven is surprisingly low-key, with only one (extremely elegant) hotel on the island.

Authentic Caribbean living and jaw-dropping natural beauty await in the Grenadines - a 35-island region that lies within the Windwards. Snorkel in the Tobago Cays to meet friendly marine turtles and revel in the untouched landscape. Head to Mayreau for the wild nightlife and swim at best-kept-secret beach Salt Whistle Bay. Try your hand at kiteboarding on Union Island, and hang out with the locals in this laid-back set of villages. Caribbean sailing yacht charterers will love the variety of experiences that await in this cruising ground.

Head to the Windward Islands from December through to April to experience them at their best, with a multitude of fantastic events across all the islands. Look out for the Barbados Film Festival, now in its third edition and normally held in late January, or the lively Carriacou Carnival in mid-February. Also, visit in February to experience the yearly St. Vincent Yacht Club Regatta, or in March for the Saint Vincent’s Blues and Rhythms Festival.

Sailing in the Leeward islands

The Leeward Islands are famous for their good sailing winds, making them a must-visit destination for experienced sailors or those on skippered Caribbean sailing holidays, where the crew will guide your vessel while you simply relax. Head to Antigua, one of the most important superyacht hubs in the Caribbean, for unmatched glamour and a rich history. Don’t leave without touring Nelson’s Dockyard, the preserved 18th-century base of the British Fleet in the West Indies.

As the smallest landmass ever to be divided between two nations, St Martin/St Maarten offers a chance to experience both French and Dutch culture while revelling in the island’s majestic green peaks and crystal-clear waters. Heavenly St Barts has not one but fourteen gorgeous beaches at which to stretch out and do nothing or to get your pulse racing with some exhilarating water sports. Meanwhile, on St Kitts and Nevis, lose yourself in sugar plantation history at the UNESCO-protected Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park. This is an island group for those with an adventurous spirit, but it wouldn’t be a Caribbean sailing yacht charter destination without also being packed full of amazing beaches upon which you can soak up the sun.

In peak sailing season, the Leeward Islands offer the lowest humidity of all the Caribbean islands - perfect for keeping cool during those more challenging hikes - and temperatures average between 27°C/81°F and 35°C/95°F, ideal for lazy days on the beach.

Built by the Italian shipyard San Lorenzo in 2015, the 46 metre superyacht SCORPION is the eighth vessel in the shipyard’s 46 steel line. Constructed with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure, she features naval architecture by the in-house team at San Lorenzo, whilst her exterior design was undertaken by Francesco Paszkowski. The elegance of the external lines give SCORPION the unmistakable San Lorenzo’s style which makes every San Lorenzo yacht a timeless classic, never influenced by the temporary fashion trends.

Her main salon is particularly bright and welcoming, epitomising the aforementioned desired owner’s concept perfectly. The dark, wooden flooring contrasting with the light upholstery and various brightly coloured decorative pieces.

The dining area is located on the upper deck, and is one of the brightest spaces on the vessel, connecting seamlessly to the outside with floor to ceiling sliding glass doors. A gorgeous round glass table is surrounded by elegant turquoise dining chairs for ten guests. Other amenities on board include a fully equipped gym and sauna.

The staircase hosts what is unquestionably one of SCORPION ’s most unique and interesting aesthetic features in a specially created crystal sculpture. Transforming colour at each deck from blue to turquoise-green, the 3.9 metre piece immediately draws the eye and creates an ideal ambiance for entertainment.

Moving outside to her exterior spaces, her spacious sun deck is a hub of activity, with a large Jacuzzi situated next to a large space dedicated to sun loungers, a spacious al fresco dining area that seats up to 10 guests, as well as a bar and additional sunloungers towards the aft. The main deck is home to a large seating area, comprised of two comfortable L shaped sofas and leading down to the large beach club.

Elsewhere, her huge garage astern houses an impressive seven metre tender, with an additional large garage located at the bow to host a wide range of water toys. Furthermore, an external lighting system gives the whole boat a multicolor effect, switching to different chromatic shades for a captivating and unique atmosphere.

SCORPION accommodates guests over five generous staterooms, comprised of a large master suite on the main deck in addition to two double cabins and two twin cabins on the lower deck. The master’s suite is decorated in a delicate palette of creams, white, silver and lilacs and is inundated with natural light from the large windows framing the stateroom and private office. The large bathroom is both sophisticated and stylish, with a large bathtub and his and hers sinks.

All guest accommodation is located on the lower deck. The mosaics in the bathrooms were all made especially by a Moscow-based artist, continuing the artistic ambiance present in all areas on board. A crew of nine are also accommodated for on the lower deck.

Scorpion - Yacht for Charter

From €225,000 EUR

  • Builder Sanlorenzo
  • Length 46m (151ft)

The stylish SCORPION yacht features Art Deco-inspired interiors, vast open deck spaces and a generous collection of water toys.

Her high-spec interior and ample space for entertaining make this an ideal luxury superyacht for event charters.

Interior Design & Engineering

The 46-metre SCORPION yacht was built in 2015 and is ABS-classed and MCA-compliant. She cruises at 14 knots and is fitted with zero-speed stabilisers for added comfort.

Her interior, designed by Tiziana Vercellesi and the SCORPION yacht owner themselves, is an Art Deco-inspired haven of opulence. Her upper deck sky lounge is the real showpiece, boasting an aquarium and formal dining at a round glass table with circular sliding doors that connect it to the upper deck.

Up to 12 guests will sleep across five cabins during your SCORPION yacht charter. The full-beam owner’s suite lies on the main deck and boasts a king-size bed, an en suite with a Jacuzzi and jet shower, and two private terraces. The rest of the cabins comprise two VIP cabins and two convertible twins, each with integrated entertainment systems and en suite bathrooms.

Yacht Facilities & Entertainment

The sun deck of the SCORPION yacht is full of amenities to help you relax. You can move around the multiple sunbathing areas to maximise your tanning and pop up the biminis when you need to find some shade. You can unwind in the Jacuzzi or enjoy a barbecued meal at the alfresco dining table amidship.

The sun deck is also an ideal space to entertain, thanks to the outdoor LED lighting that gives the whole space a fun and funky club-like atmosphere. For special sundowners, head to the viewing table on the fore deck and take in the vista.

If you need to recover from a night of partying, you’ll find plenty of loungers on the upper deck aft and main deck aft that are ideal for an alfresco nap. Should you prefer to sweat it out, you can go through the beach club and work out in the fully equipped gym before loosening up in the sauna after and then enjoying a massage from the onboard therapist. Once you’ve taken a dip, you can head back to the swim platform and recline across even more sun loungers.

Toys & Crew

A crew of 10 will make sure your SCORPION yacht charter is an exceptional experience.

When you want to enjoy some leisure time ashore, there’s a custom-made Limo tender and a 4-metre Lomac tender available to transfer you.

The SCORPION motor yacht also carries a variety of water toys for you to enjoy. You could zip across the waves on the multi-person Jet Skis, Seabobs and towable toys, or have a go at the jet surfboard, fly board and wakeboard. For something more mindful, you can don the snorkelling gear and explore the reefs.

Cruising the Moskva River: A short guide to boat trips in Russia’s capital

scorpion yacht

There’s hardly a better way to absorb Moscow’s atmosphere than on a ship sailing up and down the Moskva River. While complicated ticketing, loud music and chilling winds might dampen the anticipated fun, this checklist will help you to enjoy the scenic views and not fall into common tourist traps.

How to find the right boat?

There are plenty of boats and selecting the right one might be challenging. The size of the boat should be your main criteria.

Plenty of small boats cruise the Moskva River, and the most vivid one is this yellow Lay’s-branded boat. Everyone who has ever visited Moscow probably has seen it.

scorpion yacht

This option might leave a passenger disembarking partially deaf as the merciless Russian pop music blasts onboard. A free spirit, however, will find partying on such a vessel to be an unforgettable and authentic experience that’s almost a metaphor for life in modern Russia: too loud, and sometimes too welcoming. Tickets start at $13 (800 rubles) per person.

Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such  option  offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).

scorpion yacht

If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.

scorpion yacht

Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.

How to buy tickets?

Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.

“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!”  wrote  (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.

Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.

scorpion yacht

Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.

Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.

Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as  this   offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.

This  website  (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other  website  sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.

Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.

scorpion yacht

“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.

There are two main boarding piers in the city center:  Hotel Ukraine  and  Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.

Where to sit onboard?

Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.

The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.

scorpion yacht

Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.

There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.

Restaurant-Yacht Chaika

Ratings and reviews, location and contact.

Pleasantly surprised, service is good so is the food. Great selection of Fusion food, a mixture of Italian, Japanese, European, Asian etc. A pleasantly nice dining experience, highly recommended, a must try!

Thank you for your feedback and invite you to have lunch or dinner again aboard the ship in an atmosphere of high standards of yacht hospitality.

everything was perfect - the food, the service, the desserts were the best, nice atmosphere and the location - magical

Best food, best view in Moscow. absolutely faultless from arrival to finish. Best risotto i had for many years absolutely perfectly cooked. The view on Ukrainian hotel and the white house by night is amazing

Had to wait for the food for 1.5 hours and then another 20 minutes for the check. Finally called for the manager and he offered... a 10% discount as a compensation. Simply pathetic! The food is mediocre at best. Not bad per se, but one... would expect something better considering the prices. There are many places to eat in area that are much better. Avoid this one at all costs. Hello, Alexander Your comment is extremely important for us, thank you a lot for it. We are terribly sorry for your time that you`ve spent waiting your order and we have already taken actions to improve quality of our service and it would be realy... More

Food is very expensive, very pretentious, doesn't worth that money. Portions are very small. We ordered ravioli and there were 4! Four raviolis! For almost 15 euros. Then we asked to bring us dessert menu but nothing, they didn't even bothered, so we payed and left... without dessert. Very poor service for that price. More

This is a very good restaurant. The food is really good, maybe the best in Moscow. The service is also good. The view from the restaurant is great. The prices are very high.

I often visit this restaurant and must say it’s one of the best in Moscow in terms of quality and service. Staff really try hard to make sure that you are happy and satisfied. Customer service is a huge problem in Moscow but Chaika sets... a great example for others in the industry! Food is delicious and the menu has lots of options for everyone! Atmosphere is great and view is beautiful on the embankment. Special thanks to German & Oleg! More

Thank you for your feedback! Again aboard the yacht restaurant "Chaika" in accordance with the high standards of yacht hospitality.

Highly recommended, great location in the city center of Moscow with a superb atmosphere. Too many menu choices, though all delicious!

Thx a lot for your review! We are looking forward to see you in our restaurants.

Visited this lovely restaurant with a friend of mine. It was relaxingly warm August evening - so the place on the river seemed like a good idea. We came quite early and the restaurant was not full. The hostesses kindly offered several places to sit... and we chose to sit on the sofas. We had some wine, which was good. We struggled a bit when deciding about the food as few options (scallops) were not available. Fish on ice on display did not look very fresh. To be honest it was an unusually hot August and it is probably understandable that some see food options were not available. However, we did manage to order something and sat waiting and looking onto the river. My long-legged friend struggled sitting at the low sofa and the manager noticed that, offering as a very good, proper table beside the open window. It was nice touch and I was very pleased by their polite observations and immediate reaction to solve the problem. Food was quite good and presentation was perfect. Perhaps I can something about the food, but 1 visit is not enough to criticize or make a definitive opinion. Overall, quality place, which of course, does not come cheap. I would recommend this restaurant without hesitation. More

Good afternoon! Thank you for your detailed feedback! We are looking forward to seeing you again, we are sure that you will be delighted with our dishes!

I've been here several times during two business trip in Moscow. The overall quality for both service and food is absolutely top-notch, plus the location is very unique.

It is a nice place to gather specially at the lounge The service and staff very good I like the river view The food is almost like all restaurants in Russia they serve different cuisine. Staring Russian appetizer till Asian dishes Presentation and taste amazing... I consider it overpriced little bit More

Good location. Nice views. Good choice of food and drinks. European and Asian menu. Nice service. Pricey enough.

Had a large group dinner here. Food was above average and service quite good. The real attraction is the view of Moscow from the river on a nice night. Great place for a larger group dinner. More
