Privilege Catamarans

Privilege Marine was founded by Rene Bernard, and the world-famous offshore sailboat racer, Phillippe Jeantot. Jeantot was considered at the time one of the best single-handed offshore sailors, and ultimately went on to start the Vendee Globe Round the World Race. The original concept for Privilege Marine was to build a blue water cruising catamaran for a family circumnavigation.

The company opened up the Jeantot Ship Yards in the heart of Les Sables d’Olonne on the infamous Bay of Biscayne. The first catamaran to come out of the shipyard was the Privilege 39, which is now considered one of the most iconic catamarans to come out of the 1980’s.

In the late 1980’s, Privilege began a 30+ year relationship with designer Marc Lombard, who to this day still designs catamarans for Privilege Marine. Some of his most famous designs include the Privilege 585 catamaran, made famous by the YouTube Channel, Sailing Zatara, and the Privilege 615, one of the first catamarans to be built with a fly bridge.

To own a Privilege Catamaran is like owning a classic Rolls Royce. They are elegant and rugged, cutting-edge designs and timeless. Each Privilege catamaran is a semi-custom build and as a result, no two Privilege catamarans are the same.

Catamaran Matau

Originally built by Jeantot Marine – a catamaran manufacturer founded in 1985 by Philippe Jeantot – the Privilege brand gained a reputation for the precision, design and construction of its elite collection of yachts. Today, the brand is owned and operated by Alliaura Marine. It has launched over 60 yachts more than 60-feet in length, all of which are some of the most sophisticated and luxurious catamarans on the market.

Philippe Jeantot was a two-time world champion in single-handed sailing, and founder of the famous Vendee Globe round-the-world race. He designed the original cruising catamaran for his family, with comfort, strength and security of the utmost importance.

In 1985, he founded Jeantot Marine and introduced his first vessel in Paris. It started as a passion project and not as the start of his life in marine construction, but after receiving orders for his catamarans, he decided this would be his next adventure. He brought his global navigation experience to the Privilege brand, creating vessels with functional, innovative design, and maximum comfort.

In 1989, the Privilege shipyard was the leading builder of cruising catamarans, dominating the American market, and becoming the benchmark by which all competitors were measured. Privilege was the recipient of the Le Trophée International de la Qualité in 1992, and selected as ‘Boat of the Year’ in the USA in 1995 and 1996. In 1996, under Alliaura, the brand grew and asserted its position at the top of its class in large catamarans.

From its state-of-the-art construction facility in Lorient, France, Privilege yachts and catamarans are designed by Marc Lombard, an accomplished and renowned naval architect known for taking risks with innovation. A team of more than 20 experts oversees each aspect, including research and development, layout, materials, construction quality control, and delivery. As a result, each vessel produced comes with a range of design benefits – including, but not limited to: high-tech construction, easy control systems, durability, interesting interior layouts and luxury finishes. On top of that, every catamaran can be customized to the desires and needs of its eventual owner; from adding extra furniture, to widening the main deck, adding watersports toys or engineering additional sound systems. And in line with its high-end reputation, each catamaran comes with real wood interiors and all furnishings are made using only the finest luxury materials.

Privilege 465 Catamaran 3 Cabin 3 Head Layout

Captain Laurent Geslin

Laurent grew up in Paris, France. Urban life did not deter this water baby, who learned to swim and sail a Laser 420 as a child, and to scuba dive at the age of 12, with level three qualifications at 16 years old. He moved to Switzerland when he was 22 years old, purchased a Laser 2, and spent all his free time trimming the sails on Lake Geneva.

Privilege 465 Catamaran Crew

Laurent graduated college with a degree in economics and enjoyed a long career in the Swiss private banking industry as a stock exchange trader and operations specialist. In addition to his job as a banker, he co-owned a dive shop and school. Laurent is a high-energy individual that thrives on keeping busy, so he also played bass and guitar in a local band. Laurent is a qualified PADI Dive Instructor.

In 2015, Laurent and his wife Astrid decided it was time for a life change. They bought a catamaran and set off to sail the Mediterranean Sea. They skimmed past Gibraltar in 2016, spent two months in the Canary Islands and three months in the Cap Verde Islands before crossing the Atlantic. It was love at first sight when they reached the Caribbean, and they’ve decided to stay for quite a while.

Laurent is an expert Captain who enjoys sharing his knowledge and passion for Caribbean sailing with his guests. His motto: living your dream is always better than dreaming your life. Charter ISOLABLUE with Laurent and Astrid. Isn’t it time to live your dream?

Privilege 465 Catamaran Crew

Chef Astrid Geslin

Astrid had an enchanting childhood. She grew up with her brother and sister close to Luzern, in the heart of Switzerland, near the Alps and next to the Lake of Lucerne. Nestled in this picture-postcard landscape was her parents’ restaurant. Even as a very young child, Astrid loved to help with the cooking. Growing up cooking, serving and eating fine food proved a joyful inspiration. However, whether they be lakes or seas, water has always been her passion: sailing, diving, windsurfing, and swimming. Astrid is a qualified PADI Dive Master.

For over 20 years, Astrid worked in Geneva, Switzerland as a Human Resources executive. One of the great benefits was the extensive, international travel the job required to start-up offices in Zürich, Paris, Milan and elsewhere. In between these working adventures, she and husband Laurent spent as much time as possible sailing their boat across the waters of Lake Geneva. Astrid obtained Sailing Certification for Lakes, then passed the Swiss Certificate of Competence for Ocean Yachting. It was a perfect time to sail to new horizons.

Privilege 465 Catamaran Crew

Astrid is always happy to receive guests and share moments of discovery and joy. “Every charter is a rewarding, new, enriching experience made of encounters, good humor and fun,” says Astrid. “I speak fluent French, English and German, some Italian and Spanish. I try to welcome our guests in their own language and make them feel at home. I’m passionate about fine food from all over the world. My recipes are inspired from Mediterranean and Asian cuisine, but always with a French touch.”

While Astrid’s cooking consistently earns rave reviews, guests needn’t worry about gaining a couple of extra pounds. Astrid enjoys leading a workout, from on-deck yoga to a lap around the yacht, to a go on the water toys. And fun is always her leading motivator.

Astrid was awarded FIRST PRIZE at the Grenada Yacht Charter Show 2018 Culinary Contest! Well done Astrid!! Astrid commented: I wanted to present the 3 different colors of Grenada: green for the fertile land; yellow for the wisdom, sunshine, and warmth of Grenadians and red for the people’s courage and vitality. The people here are what make the Island of Spice so unique. The specified ingredient was Tamarin juice. My idea was to create a Tamarin reduction which I added in all three finger entrees.

Pascale & Christine Dear A&L, Many thanks for making our dream a reality. This trip with you was simply magical, and in addition to discovering new paradise islands, we met two very beautiful people, and enjoyed every anecdote or experience you shared with us, just like the culinary delights of the Chef! We are already longing to come back for new adventures around Antigua. Good luck and see you soon, Pascale & Christine
Astrid I was specially honored to receive the first place at the Culinary Excellence Award during the Grenada Yacht Show. I present the 3 different colors of Grenada: green for the fertile land; yellow for the wisdom, sunshine and warmth of Grenadians and red for the people’s courage and vitality. The people here are what make the Island of Spice so unique. Grenadians are without a doubt some of the friendliest people in the Caribbean, and I really mean it!
Past Customer Initially, I was just an added patch, as a “leech” journalist who has been hanging on to Jo and Leila for a long time. This is my last trip to the Caribbean. We had planned to leave the 4 (with Sylviane) to Union. 2 days before my arrival, I am told: “We will go by boat with Swiss people, it will be great”. I did not know what to expect … Arriving on Isolablue, it’s as if we arrive in the extension of our house. Laurent and Astrid welcome you with such kindness and considerate care that after 5 minutes you feel at home! Finally, even better than at home! Because when Astrid goes in the kitchen, the mets delight the taste buds one after the other. Appetizers, main course, desserts, all the dishes follow each other like in a gastronomy restaurant except that the terrace has a view …. on the turquoise sea …. Through the sharing and confidences, adventures under and on the water, crashes of drones, aborted battles of Pancakes, wet rides on Junior, rum punch, the links are tightened to reach all the same conclusion: L & A, you are MAGNIFICENT full of KINDNESS, GENEROSITY, WILLINGNESS of SHARING and LOVE to the Others. Thank you for these 3 unforgettable days.

Captiva is hull number two of Privileges 74ft foot catamarans and was originally built as a show boat so comes with a few cool extras including electric doors into the saloon that would normally not be found on a yacht of this size.

When stepping on board Captiva the first thing guests notice is her expansive Cockpit which offers loads of space to spread out and relax. There is plenty of seating and alfresco dining all under the shade of the hard top bimini. Guests can also choose to soak up the sun on the aft deck on portable sun beds while taking in the Caribbean views or watch the kids on the water toys.

On top of the cockpit there is a flybridge with the helm station and two small tables and lots more sun pads for those that just can’t get enough of the sun. A fantastic place to be while underway, the fly-bridge is a favorite hangout spot for Captiva’s charter guests.

WILD ROSE Yacht Charter

Wild rose yacht description.

WILD ROSE is a brand new 2022 58' Privilege Catamaran is nothing short of extraordinary. She takes sailing charter yacht luxury to the next level with a salon that will seat all guests in comfort for lounging or dining and a breezy doorway leading directly to the bow from the salon. She boasts three large queen berths each with private ensuite baths including electric heads, vanity and separate showers. Cabins and yacht common areas offer wonderful natural lighting and great ventilation with full custom air-conditioning. Top deck seating and villa-style aft lounge area make this charter yacht one-of-a-kind. With numerous lounging areas to stretch out, there is plenty of space for gathering as a group or finding a private place for one or two to take all the Caribbean in. Guests will never forget their charter experience on WILD ROSE.

Represented by DMA Yachting, the majestic charter yacht WILD ROSE is a 58 ft sailing catamaran. WILD ROSE spends the summer and winter season in British Virgin Islands. She was constructed by the famous yacht builder Privilege in 2022. The expansive yacht layout features 3 generous cabins and comfortably accommodates up to 6 guests.

WILD ROSE is presented primarily as a sailing catamaran. The yacht layout radiates from the main saloon, which connects to the aft deck. The aft deck is expansive, with a comfortable dining and seating area and that's where most of the meals are served. The immersive cabins are located in the 2 massive hulls. The cabins are located in the 2 massive hulls. Multiple portholes supply a sunny feeling, with the option for darkness and privacy.

The sailboat features SPECIAL CONDITIONS 1. CHARTERER covenants not to sue and further to defend, indemnify, and hold owner, broker, management company, stakeholder, captain and Crew harmless from any and all liability, including but not limited to strict liability, claims, demands, losses, damages, costs, penalties, suits, expenses, reasonable attorney’s fees, other costs of defense, and court costs (each, a “claim”) incident to, arising out of, connected in any manner with, or resulting, directly or indirectly from Covid-19 pandemic, or other formally declared pandemic or endemic (hereafter collectively referred to as “Covid-19”), and the vessel charter, including but not limited to the infection of any member of the charter party with Covid-19, travel delays, vessel seizures and/or mandatory quarantines or any other government imposed restrictions, requirements or regulations. 2. In the event that any member of the Crew or charter guest becomes ill with Covid-19 symptoms and tests positive during the charter for Covid-19 the charter will terminate at the nearest reasonable port of disembarkation, unless otherwise agreed in writing by the captain, Charterer, Owner and Stakeholder. If quarantine is required, it cannot be done on the yacht. Therefore medical insurance with quarantine coverage is highly encouraged. 3. The CHARTERER acknowledges the Covid-19 entry and exit protocols for the Cruising Area (BVI or otherwise) as they exist on the date of execution of this agreement and endeavors to ensure they are updated with any changes in relevant entry and exit protocols. The CHARTERER and all guests are responsible for meeting government mandated requirements for entry or exit into the Cruising Area. In the event that the CHARTERER and guests are not permitted entry into or exit out of the Cruising Area, or any portion thereof, because of not meeting government mandated entry/exit requirements, and not because of the Cruising Area being closed to visitors such, this agreement shall be deemed cancelled by the CHARTERER and the remaining funds will immediately be disbursed to the OWNER, including the Agents' commission. All expenses for CHARTERER and guests to meet government mandated requirements for entry or exit into the cruising area, as well as costs associated with quarantine or additional other related costs, are solely at the expense of the CHARTERER. 4. Further to CLAUSE 10. D. DELAY IN DELIVERY/FAILURE TO DELIVER, should the CHARTERER or any member of their charter party test positive for COVID-19 prior to the charter, the positive test or tests will not constitute a government or travel ban as part of this clause and therefore trip insurance is advised. 5. If Crew would become ill from Covid-19 or any other illness, the OWNER may appoint another Crew to complete the charter, failing which, the charterer would have the options under CLAUSE 10. C. FORCE MAJEURE CLAUSES i & ii. 6. At the time of signing this contract, BVI regulations will not permit this vessel to operate commercially in BVI waters. 7. If by the dates of the charter the yacht is able to charter in the BVI, the charter fee does not include British Virgin Islands (BVI) taxes, fees, permits or National Park fees or Customs & Immigration fees. 8. Crew of WILD ROSE|Captain

Captain: Brad Wardle

Captain Brad Wardle fell in love with sailing when he was seven years old and started taking his first sailing lessons in Ventura, California. He bought his first boat when he was in his 20's and sailed it for 22 years up and down the West Coast from Canada to Mexico and all the way to Hawaii single-handed. A natural mechanic, Brad's has enjoyed a long career as an engineer working on ski lifts in the California ski resorts, and as an oil rig technician working on land and off shore. His work gave him time off between posts which Brad always spent on his boat, sailing. Brad has a STCW 95 certification and holds a Master's 100 ton License with a Sailing and Towing endorsement. First Mate/Chef Shana Story was born and raised in Michigan where she fell in love with boating on the Great Lakes. She has a BS in Education and worked as a health teacher before moving to Montana to become the kitchen manager at Mountain Sky Guest Ranch; owned by Arthur Blank owner of the Atlanta Falcons and Home Depot. Shana's natural hospitality skills and bubbly personality were the perfect match for the clientele of that exclusive resort, and she soon branched into private catering. Brad and Shana met each other in Angel Fire, New Mexico where Shana had taken the position as the chef/housekeeper on a private ranch and Brad was working on a nearby oil rig. Brad invited Shana to come sailing on his boat in California, and soon after, the idea to combine their talents and become sailing crew together was born. Shana and Brad traveled to Mystic, Connecticut to purchase a 40' Cheoy Lee and gave themselves 2 years to cruise the Caribbean. In those 2 years, they sailed their yacht "Quartette" from Connecticut to Florida, through the Bahamas and to the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and finally to St, Thomas. They have spent the past 2 years exploring the US and British Virgins Islands with an eye to sharing that knowledge with guests. As the chef aboard, Shana prefers to prepare healthy cuisine featuring fresh, local ingredients and can tailor her menu to accommodate diets such as gluten free, Paleo and vegetarian. Shana holds an STCW 95 certification. Brad and Shana have 4 grown children between them and love to host families aboard Delphine. They believe that Dephine is ideally suited for family groups to enjoy a Caribbean sailing vacation that will be the most memorable time of their lives.

Jump to Privilege Catamarans For Sale

Privilege catamarans have been considered to be among the very best of the French boats for many years. Back in the early 90’s, Privilege was the centerpiece of all charter cats, and their boats were strong and elegant.

Privilege Catamaran’s outstanding pedigree, dating back 36 years, remains unmatched as arguably the world’s finest cruising catamaran to be produced in the world. Built to the highest standards and for discerning, uncompromising owners, they represent the very best one desires in every aspect of their design and build and all the way to the finishing touches.

For a bit of background, the company was created in 1985 by internationally renowned sailor Phillipe Jeantot (founder of the Vendee Globe yacht race). Based on his unequalled ocean sailing experience and profound understanding of the dynamics of ocean condition, particularly for sailing vessels versus hull design, Jeantot set out to design catamarans who would set a new benchmark in the world of multihull sailing, with an obsession for perfection which applied from construction quality and stability, while at the same time combining comfort, luxury, liveability, durability and without compromising on performance, which is surprisingly outstanding for a yacht without daggerboards, but which elongated transoms improves upwind sailing performance, as well as minimize the dreaded “hobby-horsing” in a short “chop” typical of more stubby modern multihull designs.

Built in France, in the heart of the world’s most dynamic yacht building area at Les Sables d’Olonne, Privilege Catamaran’s reputation for excellence quickly grew to international proportions. They were already industry leader by 1989.

Unlike boats built primarily to satisfy the inexhaustible demand for the charter industry, Privilege addresses a diametrically opposed end of the market, with each boat individually tailored and each and every one of them a statement in itself: luxury on the ocean, superb stability, reliability, safety, performance and durability.

Step aboard and you will immediately witness for yourself the Privilege pledge for perfection, carefully handcrafted with the finest materials which will sustain life on the ocean’s harsh environment for years ahead without a blemish, and which will undoubtably satisfy your highest demands for luxury and exclusivity.

Motor Yachts

45 - 100 ft (14 - 30 m).

At the mention of yachts most people’s minds jump to motor yachts. With a stable cruising platform and plenty of space for luxury on-deck facilities motor yachts can be fast-movers or leisurely-cruisers and come in a massive variety of shapes and sizes. Due to their speed capabilities motor yachts are perfect for those looking to explore more of the cruising area in a smaller amount of time. Larger cabins and more spacious decks make these yachts an ideal choice when comfort and onboard facilities are the main concern. A popular choice for families and first-time charterers.

Destinations for Motor Yachts

Compared to the sailing yachts which are monohulls (or single-hulled) the catamaran is a multi-hull which makes it a much more stable vessel and ideal for entering shallow waters. Besides offering a stable ride the catamaran also has low motion at anchor and due to its light structure can move at much higher speeds.

Sailing Yachts

Sailing yachts have come a long way from their humble beginnings and now often offer just as many luxury facilities as motor yachts. Their association with a feeling of freedom and romance on the water however remains. Sail yachts available for charter will tend to differ in terms of rigging power and performance with each combination of factors making for a different sailing experience.

How to Charter a Boat

If you want to sail off into the sunset, at least temporarily, you need to understand how to get aboard first.

An illustration of the bow of a boat with three women with flowing hair and cocktails looking over a man playing a guitar and then off in the water, four other vacationers are sunbathing on inner tubes.

By Lauren Sloss

This time of year, it’s an inevitable thought: Life would be that much better out on the water. Specifically, on a boat.

Even if you have neither a boat nor boating experience, it’s never been easier to make your nautical dreams come true — whether you want a day trip on your local lake or a fully staffed multiday voyage in a far-flung locale. Here are the initial questions that will help you plan an adventure on the water.

Whom are you traveling with?

Thinking about the size and dynamic of your group is an important first step, even if you are simply going on a day trip. Will children be on board? How old? What about elderly parents?

Dan Lockyer, the chief commercial officer of Dream Yacht Worldwide , strongly encourages travelers to determine group size — and, ideally, get people committed — before booking.

“The location that you want to go to, the time of year that you want to go, the type of boat that you want will entirely depend on the makeup of the group that you’re sailing with,” Mr. Lockyer said.

Do you want to captain, or do you want a captain?

Different charter companies specialize in certain locations, types of boats, itineraries and services. Some companies offer the opportunity for a “bareboat” charter, in which you rent the boat and take on the navigation and provisioning yourself, while others exclusively offer fully staffed options, including a captain and a cook.

If you want to captain the boat yourself, almost all outfits require some kind of proof of sailing or boating experience, often in line with local regulations.

Edward King, 45, an executive at a streaming company based in San Francisco, is experienced in sailing the city’s waterways. But on vacation, he said he would prefer to let a captain and crew take the lead.

Mr. King said he appreciates a captain who is familiar with both the local waters — “they’ll know how to avoid sailing into a certain sandbar,” he said, — as well as the local attractions.

In contrast, Matt Blake, 38, a software engineer based in Oakland, Calif., was eager to grow his sailing experience during a recent trip to La Paz, Mexico, with his fiancée. He hired a captain but made clear that the captain was there to help and teach.

Where do you want to go?

“Do you want something that’s more culturally oriented? Nature oriented? An adventure trip?” asked Mary Curry, the voyage product director of Adventure Life , which offers small group tours and private trips on land and on water around the world.

That answer can determine your destination. Popular cruising grounds include the Caribbean, Croatia, Alaska and French Polynesia, but the sky — or the sea — is really the limit. For help narrowing your focus, travel advisers often have relationships with charter companies or outfits around the world, and sailing publications offer recommendations.

Kyla Malkani, who has had experience with charters working as a destination wedding planner, recommends consulting the concierge of waterfront hotels, particularly for short-term or day rentals.

“A lot of times they will have either their own fleet or they will have some sort of connection at a dock,” said Ms. Malkani, 37, who is based in Washington, D.C., and is currently working as a content creator and freelance event planner.

What kind of boat?

Where you want to travel and for how long will likely determine the kinds of boats that are available to you. Crucial at this point, too, is an understanding of the boat’s layout and amenities.

“You definitely want to choose the right kind of boat,” said Ms. Malkani. “If you want more adventure, a sailboat is nice. If you’re looking for a luxury party environment, a yacht is best. And if you’re looking for something smooth, for older people or with kids, a catamaran is great.”

David Barclay is a luxury travel adviser who has also chartered boats for his own vacations.

“You want to match what the travelers want to what the boat offers,” he said.

Perhaps a group of friends might not mind a catamaran with functional but not luxurious marine bathrooms, but a multigenerational group might prefer more high-touch amenities.

When should I book?

Often, charter trips are once-in-a-lifetime experiences that require a great deal of advanced planning.

“You may have a specific place you want to go, or a specific time of year you want to travel,” said Mr. Barclay. “And some places just aren’t good at certain times of year.”

Naturally, you don’t want to be at sea in the Caribbean during hurricane season, or in the Mediterranean during winter storms. But you also might want to avoid peak cruising seasons, too.

The first three weeks of August are quite popular, said Mr. Lockyer. “If you have some flexibility and can travel in early July, you’ll get the same sort of great weather, a greater selection of boats and the anchorages won’t be as crowded.”

How much does it cost?

Charter costs are incredibly variable, dependent on all of the factors coming into play: your boat type and size, your destination, your group size, the amount of crew you’d like and the amenities on board. That said, costs could range anywhere from $2,000 for a day on a sailboat to hundreds of thousands of dollars for a multiday mega-yacht charter. Have a budget in mind when beginning your research process.

What if I didn’t plan far in advance?

While advanced planning is encouraged, and often necessary for bigger boat trips, it’s possible to book a boat last-minute.

Boatsetter , an Airbnb-like platform for boats, is a good resource for last-minute bookings, especially for day trips, and even has an Instant Book option for down-to-the-wire bookings.

“If it’s for a special event, or around major holidays, you may want to book a month or two in advance. But for general bookings, you can find options within a week or two,” said Kim Koditek, Boatsetter’s head of brand strategy and communications, of the company’s overnight offerings, which appear on their platform under the luxury yacht charters category .

Ms. Malkani has used Boatsetter for some of her charters, most of which have been booked with a specific goal in mind.

“I’m a sunset chaser,” she said. “My husband and I just really love being on the water, and we always try to squeeze in some sort of boat day activity when we’re traveling.”
