Blessed with a hot summer northerly and a pedigree European yacht, David Lockwood finds the perfect conditions to test out the latest in performance cruisers

You don't have to be Sherlock Homes to see that the Danish X-Yachts are made from the best ingredients. The gorgeous X37 heaving before me on the outside arm of the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron beams in the midday sun. Stealing my gaze are the stainless-steel Anderson winches, polished aluminium deck hatches and matching jammers, teak decks, large leather-bound wheel, rod rigging and hydraulic backstay. Down below I discover a different but no less exclusive world.

Put all this eye-candy on a well-bred hull with pretty lines and pedigree and you have a Euro yacht with poise. Sadly, however, there is no wind to check on the X37's performance. We shoot the breeze, so to speak, and waited on the clubhouse deck.

Was that faintest puff of wind on my face? Or was that the waiter walking past? The Australian flag starts stirring. Then in she comes: a hot, summer northerly to fuel an afternoon of champagne sailing on this Danish blueblood.

In fact, the arrival of this new Danish X-Yacht was as timely as the northerly wind: at the time of writing, Denmark's Crown Prince Frederick and his wife, 'our' Mary, were in Sydney for the best of three matchraces on the harbour.

THE X-FACTOR Back in Denmark, X-Yachts is turning out about 300 yachts a year. This is the first X37, a new model released in July last year and destined to be campaigned in Spain in the IMS 670 Class during the coming Northern Hemisphere season.

The X37 is not the first X-Yacht in Australia, however. Far from it. X-Yachts are a known quantity here (think IMX 40, for example). More recently, in the last Hamilton Island Race Week an X-43, White Satin, came second in IRC. While there wasn't an IRC certificate, the X37 is destined to rate well. The importer expects it will rate similarly to a Beneteau 36.7.

The X-Yachts range spans the 37, a 40, a 43, a 46 and a 50. A special 35OD is on the way to Australia, while the factory works on a bigger 55 and impressive 70.

 There was a big change to X-Yachts about 18 months back when they cleaned up the lineup and released a new range of yachts. Thankfully, the yard's excellent designer, Niels Jeppesen, who is among the 25-year-old company's founders, remained.

The 37 is one of the 'performance cruisers', designed to satisfy owners with racing ambitions. Having said that, the owner of this boat sought nothing more than a beautiful yacht. And that it is. But it is testament to X37's raciness that it still sailed so well in my hands and, moreover, with the furling headsail, lazyjacks and boom bag, teak decks, anchor in the bow, and a load of bits and pieces squirreled away in lockers.

The quest for speed is helped by low stretch, low windage standing rod rigging; light and powerful twin-spreader alloy stick; North sails; weight savings from foam-cored construction; and the amount of sail this yacht can fly. The Sail Area Displacement Ratio is in the racer category.

Yet the yacht is very stiff on the ballast/displacement ratio front. The standard 1.98m keel carries 2715kg of the boat's 6400kg displacement. The wide beam amidships also points to good stability and the angle of vanishing stability comes in at –84.12.

STRONG DANE Along with speed, the X-Yacht touts strength and is built to operate in 7m waves and winds to 55 knots. On the harbour in choppy water the yacht felt stiff thanks to fully glassed-in bulkheads.

Besides Divinycell foam-cored construction, the hand-laminated hull and deck feature biaxial E-glass for strength. The keel-stepped mast, shrounds leading to chain plates, and keel are attached to an internal galvanised-iron grid system that takes their loads and has a central lifting point. While it must weigh a tonne or more, the frame keeps its weight down low in this moderate displacement yacht.

The rudderstock is made from heavy-duty tapered aluminium with needle bearings in the hull and deck. The steering, meanwhile, is a Jefa rack-and-pinion system that is delightfully light and balanced but with feedback should you be overpowered. All through-hull fittings are bronze and flush.

The local agents added some icing of their own by way of the extended teak decks, concealed windlass, an electric primary winch (on a 37-footer, no less) and a big cockpit table, plus electronics. The owner (ex-Bavaria) sails shorthanded with his wife and he didn't want a yacht that was a handful to sail. The X37 is a delight to sail.

DECKED OUT The yacht's cockpit is commodious for a cruiser-racer. All lines are fed through Frederiksen blocks back to the cockpit, with 40ST halyard winches and polished-alloy Spinlock clutches on the cabin tops and 46ST primaries mid-cockpit including the optional electric that can also be used to hoist the main. The headsail is a North's polyester furler with belowdeck drum.

 The mainsheet system ahead of the wheel and the button for the electric primary winch are within reach of the skipper if needs be. There are both rough (4:1) and fine (8:1) trim sheets for the 43.7sqm dacron North sail. The hydraulic backstay made flattening the sail plan a snap for beating close hauled.

The Frederiksen genoa tracks are accommodating of an optional self-tacker if you wish. The cars have a control line or puller leading back to the cockpit. Most of the lines and sheets are Spectra, including that for the single-line reefing system.

The solid transom has a handy boarding platform, swim ladder and optional hot/cold handheld shower. Internally, the ergonomics are superb, with comfortable moulded teak bumrests and good support when heeled over.

There is storage in a lazarette for the gas bottle and access to the emergency tiller, and storage in two cockpit lockers including a cavernous area instead of the optional third cabin.

I noted padeyes here and there for hooking up your harnesses when passage-making, a binnacle with compass, moulded facia for mounting electronics over the companionway, and a very, very clever dodger that stows flat to the deck and has complimentary lines when assembled, as we did after just a few minutes, during heavy weather.

The rod rigging means the shrouds are quite a way inboard and, with wide side decks, stainless steel handrails, a good grade of non-skid on the house, and teak toerails, this is an easy yacht to get around. The anodised Lewmar hatch frames and cleats sure look the part.

HOME AWAY FROM HOME The X37 comes in two or three-cabin layouts. This was the two-cabin, single-head version, with that aforesaid extra deep lazarette for storage and a standard satin-finished light mahogany joinery that is a cut above the production pack.

Moulded liners with integrated halogen lights, grabs and fiddles make for a clean but safe interior. The hatches have integrated shade and privacy screens. The pull-off fiddle on the huge dinette lets you fold the table for better thoroughfare.

Opposing sofas/sea berths each measure 200cm long and with the dinette assembled you have the space for entertaining. It is certainly a comfortable yacht for a family complement of, say, four. With the saloons you could sleep six if you had to.

The navigation station is accommodating of electronics and charts with a first-class wiring plan and at-a-glance water, fuel and volt meters. The boat has Shorepower, 240V outlet at the nav station and heat-exchanger/240V hot-water heater.

 There is a 172lt stainless-steel freshwater tank, the option of more water, and 80lt fuel tank for the freshwater-cooled 29hp Yanmar diesel motor with Saildrive. I noted easy access to the dipstick, excellent sound insulation, about 7 knots motorsailing speed and, wow, an extractor fan in the engine room for venting.

An L-shaped space that will work well at sea with a strap, the starboard-side galley boasts a 105lt top-opening fridge with Coolmatic 12V unit under the twin sinks, two-burner gimballed stove/oven, Corian counters, deep fiddle rails and loads of cupboard space and drawers.

Trendy catches, quality hinges, reading and down lights, clock, barometer, storage nooks, cabinetry, and abundant hatches for fresh air add class and comfort. The starboard aft cabin has an offset double bed, only two small hatches for ventilation, but headroom at the foot of the bed. There are shelves and a decent wardrobe with timber vents.

Up front, the spacious master cabin beckons with an even bigger double bed, dresser seat and hanging lockers. Back aft, the head is a moulded white insert on the port side with vanity, manual loo, wet locker and cabinet. The hot/cold mixer doubles as a handheld shower. Watch the 40lt holding tank, however, it won't take long to fill.

SAILING DAZE That the wind had filled in to the point of whistling through the local yacht fleet's rigging was good news, indeed. While the X37 is certainly agile, it relished the breeze. We broad reached to about 8 knots, did 7–7.5 knots upwind and 6.5 knots downwind with the jib poled out as though on a twilight mid-week race to nowhere.

The handling was predictable and, when sailed flat, the little yacht finds its own path. While the X37 wasn't performing in a race sense, it was performing for its owner.

Definitely a premium European product, the unplanned Australian/Danish collaboration looks set for a long future. Performance cruisers are where the market's at and Australians are increasingly looking overseas for inspiration.

X-Yachts' X-35 follows the hugely successful X-99, which has been a firm favourite of cruiser racers for years. But does it live up to its younger sisters reputation?

When it comes to serious numbers in one ­design yachts, the X-99 rates as one of the most successful designs of modern times, with 600 built since 1985. But after 21 years, the company that created one of the few big-boat classes to have ISAF status has launched its replacement, the X-Yachts X-35.

Given the huge success of the X-99, it’s clear X-Yachts have set themselves a very high target if they are to get anywhere near repeating this success.

But while no specific numbers have been issued on what X-­Yachts expect of this class in years to come, it’s clear they are planning to use a similar technique to kick-start the class.

More than a year ago and with little more than a few drawings to go by, 42 boats were sold in the first month of 2005.

Plans for the launch of the new model involved a distribution strategy to ensure that fleets stood the best chance of sowing the seeds from which future local classes would grow.

After a long wait and much talk, the first few boats are now in the water and the class is close to taking off.

X-Yachts have attempted to recapture their former success.

Partly through computer graphics being what they are and partly for reasons of cosmetic modesty, the X-­Yachts X-35 isn’t much of a surprise when you first see her.

In fact, she doesn’t stand out at all at the dock – at best she looks typical of a modern X-Yacht.

She has a simple open cockpit, a large wheel and a pair of cockpit seats flanked by shallow coamings. However, she offers a great detail in terms of her control line layout and setup.

She has more gears upwind than you’ll know what to do with at first.

Closer inspection reveals that, although she doesn’t have a large overlapping headsail and therefore a second set of tracks, she lacks few of the controls of a Beneteau First 34, they’re just incorporated more discreetly. The mainsheet is a good example.

You may not think it is necessary to have a ‘German’ mainsheet system (where the mainsheet is led back along the side decks to a pair of winches fitted on either side of the cockpit) on a boat of just 35ft. I certainly didn’t.

But having just a 2:1 purchase in the mainsheet system keeps the amount of rope in the system to a minimum and helps keep the cockpit clutter-free. The system also means a fine tune is not required, reducing the clutter even further.

On top of this, the mast man can bounce the sheet at its forward end at leeward mark roundings to help rapid sheeting of the mainsail.

Having started out wishing for a more conventional system of blocks and tackles for the mainsheet, when I tried it aboard the Beneteau I didn’t like it.

Under way she has a solid, dependable, chunky feel to her helm.

The layout of control lines on the top of the coach roof is another example. Here, jammers are staggered lengthwise to make il easier for more crew to reach them from the weather rail.

Such attention to detail suggests that the X will be an easier boat to handle under pressure than the Beneteau.

But elsewhere are clues that this has been at the expense of some practical issues. The lack of an anchor locker won’t trouble many racing sailors – some may see it as an advantage – but the lack of any cockpit lockers could become a nuisance.

‘Small’ interior

Such details on deck turn out to be clues to an accommodation layout that is lacking in several areas once you step below decks and first impressions are of a small interior.

Overall the layout is a simple one, with galley to port, nav station to starboard and a pair of simple settee berths either side of a fixed saloon table.

However, the X-35 has a forward double cabin, which although roomy enough to be used, will no doubt be a waste of space for racing owners.

The navigation station is fairly cramped.

Having said that, one of the reasons for incorporating such a cabin is to enhance the boat’s value later in life when the heat of the racing scene may have eased.

The same reason for the liberal use of teak in the interior instead of wipe-clean mouldings as was the norm in the IMX-38 and fair enough.

What I found less easy to understand was why the lifting backs to the saloon seating hadn’t been set up to provide an upper berth.

The X-35’s weakest point is below deck.

With full-width chainplates and no lockers or shelves (although these are an option), there are no obstructions to what would make a decent-sized berth to weather. Or, at the very least, a good and secure place to stow gear and kit bags.

Moving aft, the galley is small and awkward to use, the access to the after­berths restricted. And the top of the engine box has a curved surface and to my mind misses an opportunity to provide handy stowage for winch handles, blocks etc, just where you can get at them.

The lack of stowage is an issue throughout this boat apart from the cavernous space under the forward bunk, which clearly wouldn’t get used in racing trim.

On the starboard side, the outboard­ facing chart table is large and conveniently shares worktop space with the fridge to provide shy navigators with even less reason to come on deck. Overall, I was disappointed with the layout of this boat below decks.

Yet I also have to admit that for all my criticisms and given her primary objective, the accommodation would still not count for much in my own final analysis.

The X-­Yachts X-35 has a sandwich-construction hull and deck, using a combination of biaxial E-Glass and a vinylester resin. Throughout, she is built to the same high standards as the rest of the fleet.

With X-Yachts’ trademark galvanised steel gridwork providing the primary load ­carrying structure in the bottom of the boat, suggesting she’ll be every bit as robust as her sisterships. Whatever the other criticisms, longevity still counts for a lot.

Subtle under sail

If chalk and cheese describe the differences between the X-Yachts X-35 and the Beneteau First 34.7, the expression will also suit the match between the disappointment of the X’s interior with the way she behaves under sail.

I’ve yet to test an X-Yacht that doesn’t feel good on the wheel and the X-35 is no exception. She’s finger-light, even when pressed, she’s sensitive, responsive and has more gears upwind than you’ll know what to do with at first.

She might be plain on the outside but she’s anything but when it comes to sailing her.

Although she’s a doddle to handle in the broad sense, it takes no time at all to realise that she’ll be a very tricky boat to sail well.

The conventional spinnaker will appeal to more conservative sailors.

To get the best out of her you’ll need patience, total concentration, a magic marker, plenty of tape and a waterproof notebook and pen.

So subtle is the feedback through the wheel that you’ll need to mark and jot down key settings and numbers to build a picture of what makes her tick.

In my opinion, this is just what you need for a good one-design class where performance benefits and top results are achieved through the hard work of crews rather than some technical advantage.

She feels quite a tender boat too (much like the X-99), a fact borne out by her higher sail area:displacement ratio when compared to the Beneteau.

The X-35 might be plain on the outside, but when it comes to sailing her, she’s anything but.

In just 10 knots of wind and clocking 6.8 knots in flat water she feels fully powered upwind – anymore and you’re dropping the mainsheet traveller down the track.

But while she might feel slightly tender, she remains under control on the helm.

The seating positions for helmsman and crew works well for all. And the control line layout works as well as it looks both upwind and down to make this a very nimble boat around the corners of the racecourse.

In addition, what impressed me was the attention to detail. Such as the rings in the guardwires through which the traveller lines run to keep them to hand.

Or a shockcord retrieval system to pull the spinnaker guy in towards the foredeck to make end-for-end gybing that bit easier for the foredeck crew.

Details like these come as standard. Impressive stuff and a good indication of where the heart of this boat really lies -racing.

The X-­Yachts X-35 may have been designed with one-design racing as the main focus but, depending on how her IRC handicap shapes up she could prove to be a highly competent racer in the handicap scene as well. Something the X-99 never quite achieved on an international scale.

But if all this talk of racing is a little too hot, bear in mind that current X-332 owners are among the new boat’s target market.

Which should provide a rich source of secondhand 332s on the market, albeit with a ‘frequently raced and rallied label’.

Australian breakdancer Raygun responds to critics: ‘I was never going to beat these girls’

Raygun has broken her silence.

Not long after her breakdancing performances during the 2024 Paris Olympics were widely mocked across social media, the Australian breakdancer Rachael Gunn also known as “Raygun,” responded to the criticism.

During a news conference with ESPN on Saturday, Gunn said she wanted to bring a unique style of dance to the competition.

“What I wanted to do was come out here and do something new and different and creative — that’s my strength, my creativity,” said Gunn. “I was never going to beat these girls on what they do best, the dynamic and the power moves, so I wanted to move differently, be artistic and creative because how many chances do you get that in a lifetime to do that on an international stage.”

American Sunny Choi, who goes by the B-girl name Sunny, competes in the first Olympic breaking competition Friday in Paris.

Gunn’s three performances Friday went viral because of their simplicity, unusual moves, and because each received a 0 from the judges. While breaking is scored on creativity, personality, technique, diversity, musicality, and vocabulary, many took to social media to poke fun at Gunn’s routines.

“Just because your country CAN send a breakdancer to the Olympics doesn’t mean you SHOULD…This woman Raygun from Australia is the most embarrassing ... I ever seen,” one user wrote on X.

“ I kinda feel bad for RayGun , the Aussie #BreakingForGold — but that routine was hilariously ridiculous,” another wrote.

“ Australia just set breakdancing back 40 years ,” another user said.

Australia’s chief de mission, Anna Meares, defended Gunn during a news conference on Saturday expressing how disheartened she is about the online reaction.

“I love Rachael … I think that what has occurred on social media with trolls and keyboard warriors, and taking those comments and giving them airtime, has been really disappointing,” Meares said.

“Raygun is an absolutely loved member of this Olympic team … She has represented the Olympic team, the Olympic spirit with great enthusiasm. And I absolutely love her courage. I love her character, and I feel very disappointed for her, that she has come under the attack that she has.”

Gunn also fired back at critics of her green-and-yellow Australia team tracksuit with matching cap, posting on Instagram,”Looking forward to the same level of scrutiny on what the b-boys wear tomorrow.”

For Olympic newbie sports like breaking, there’s a lot more at stake than medals

Breaking, the newest Olympic sport, is trying to breakthrough on the biggest of stages. But will it satisfy the IOC’s desire for TV ratings and younger audiences?

During the news conference Saturday, Meares said the critiques against Gunn aren’t new and are part of a history of misogyny toward women in male-dominated sports experience. In 2008, she said she found Gunn in a room by herself crying.

“It took great courage for her to continue on and fight for her opportunity to participate in a sport that she loved,” Meares said. “That got her to winning the Olympic qualifying event to be here in Paris … She is the best breakdancer female that we have for Australia. “

Bringing new technology to the legal field has been difficult historically. This is because legal work relies heavily on complex legal language. However, recent advancements in Large Language Models that have increased language writing and understanding abilities have sparked a wave of interest and investment ($700 million in startup funding since early 2023).

Technical solutions like retrieval augmentation, prompt engineering, fine-tuning, and guardrails have emerged to tackle technical hurdles like lack of accuracy, explainability and privacy protections. Despite the breakthroughs in technology, structural impediments persist, such as retrofitting automation to nuances like billable hours and lack of standardization.

Founders exploring the LegalTech sector should consider having co-founders with a deep legal expertise to help in navigating incumbents’ dominance over relationships, data assets and security and to target positioning as partners rather than competitors to incumbents. This is because incumbents are consolidating through acquisitions and partnerships rather than building internally, as seen in legal research, document processing and litigation.

Future opportunities may arise in specialized domains like IP and compliance as well as improvements in legal service operations. While generative AI drives momentum, the legal industry’s complexities warrant caution in terms of partner positioning and segment selection.

The new yacht in X-Yacht’s XRange 
is not a 40-footer. Let’s get that out 
of the way now – the X40 is 37ft 8in.

She’s 
great fun, and has the nimble feel 
and speed that most 40-footers can only dream of, but don’t think she has the accommodation of a 40ft yacht; the 
40 in her name is her length overall, including her bowsprit.

Her interior is stylish, practical 
and well put together, she’s easily handled by a couple 
and can take you cruising in speed and style.

With that clarified, I can start telling you all how good 
she is and, oh my, she is good. It’s rare I’ll find myself having 
a great sail in less than 10 knots of breeze.

To be fair it’s also rare to sail a 40ft, sorry, 38ft, yacht with Technora sails and 
a carbon fibre mast and boom and a 2.40m draught.

But 
sailing south from Aarøsund in Denmark in 9 knots of 
breeze, we were having a blast and she was romping 
along going to windward at over 7 knots.

X-Yachts has long been a brand of proper sailing boats, thoroughbreds born to be sailed, not just comfortable yachts with masts and sails.

Its boats are well-mannered and sail fast; with its heritage in racing, even X-Yachts’ cruising range has a 
good turn of speed.

X-Yachts currently build three ranges of yachts; Xc for cruising, Xp for performance, and the latest XRange.

The boats in each may be similar lengths, but each are different from the keel up. The new X40 
is not just the comfortable interior of the Xc38 crammed into the sleek hull of the Xp38.

The hull design characteristics on all three ranges are different: the Xc hulls have more volume to support the extra clobber required by the extended cruising sailor; the Xp are narrower with much slimmer bow sections; and the X40’s hull has more rocker than the Xp while its broader forward sections give more space for the owner’s cabin and wider aft sections with a soft, subtle 
chine, giving more volume aft.

While X’s Xp yachts have gained a more cruiser-friendly interior over time, they retain weight-saving features, less joinery (although, don’t for a minute think they are stripped out racers) and a carbon-reinforced subframe.

The XRange, in contrast, carries over some of the Xp’s sporty handling 
while keeping features reassuring to cruising 
sailors: lots of useful deck stowage, good headroom and a galvanised steel sub-frame beneath the sole 
which spreads the loads from the keel and mast.

With the average size of yachts gradually increasing to over 40ft, it is easy to become accustomed to their way of sailing.

There’s 
nothing wrong with the feel but, like the freedom 
of an empty winding road after being stuck behind a tractor, sailing the X40 is a reminder of how good a sub-40ft yacht 
can feel.

She strikes a lovely balance of nimbleness and control without being twitchy. Leave the wheel and she will veer off course, but the helm is so enjoyable you won’t want to leave it.

The test boat was fitted with a B&G hydraulic autopilot ram. In the past, when manufacturers have blamed the autopilot for heaviness to the helm,

I’ve asked for it to be removed – and the autopilot wasn’t always the cause.

On this occasion, without the ram fitted the wheel had the unrestricted preciseness I have come to expect from Jeffa cable steering, and it felt instantly lighter.

THE TEST VERDICT

There is no doubt that X40 is one of my favourite production boats; everything about her just seems right.

Of course, for a boat of this quality you pay handsomely for it and this boat did have more than £100,000 of extras added.

No doubt these improved her performance, and it would have been nice to see how good she was without the carbon rig and with her standard 2.1m draught keel.

As she was, though, not many boats of her length can rival her, given the comfort and build quality that’s down below and, of course, the speed you’ll be sailing.

This two-cabin layout worked well and provided plenty of stowage.

A three-cabin layout will be available, but you’ll lose the chart table and much of the spacious heads compartment; given it’s the only heads on board, it is a compromise you’d want to weigh up carefully.

The three-cabin layout works better on the larger X43 where less compromise is needed.

Boats to rival her are few and far between, though 
she sits between the more expensive Faurby 396 
and the Arcona 380.

While all three of these boats sail well it would be unfair to just look at the bottom line as each yacht has her own merits.

Which would I choose? That is a very tough decision and one I am loath to commit to with so few words to pontificate with.

WOULD SHE SUIT YOU AND YOUR CREW?

At 38ft, the X40 squeezes in under the 12m mark, meaning that sails, loads, berthing and costs are all kept within bounds.

The size of the yacht and her sails feel less intimidating than those on a yacht above 40ft.

If you’ve enjoyed racing in the past and still feel the need for speed, but now want a little more comfort – and you have the funds available – this boat is a good choice.

She’s a high-spec cruiser that is hugely rewarding and fun to helm, with a very comfortable, stylish interior.

It’s very rare for me to give gushing praise of a yacht.

Boats as good as this don’t come along that often, but when they do, I feel like I have the best job in the world.

Review of X-372

Basic specs..

Both the hull and the deck is made of fibreglass. Generally, a hull made of fibreglass requires only a minimum of maintenance during the sailing season. The hull is a double hull which improves the indoor climate. Especially when the water is colder than the air in the cabin, then the double hull insulates against cold water and reduce the condense water in the cabin. The deck is a double deck which improves the indoor climate.

The interior is like many other boats made of mahogany. Mahogany belongs to the hardwood species, known for being water-repellent and resistant to decay. It has an attractive wood grain and holds wood polish and varnish well. The boat is equipped with 3 cabins, 7 berths, a galley, 110.0 liter fresh water capacity and toilet facility.

The boat has multiple rigs. One option is a fractional rig. A fractional rig has smaller headsails which make tacking easier, which is an advantage for cruisers and racers, of course. The downside is that having the wind from behind often requires a genaker or a spinnaker for optimal speed. Another option is a masthead rig. The advantage of a masthead rig is its simplicity and the fact that a given sail area - compared with a fractional rig - can be carried lower and thus with less heeling moment.

Unknown keel type

X-372 can only enter major marinas as the draft is about 2.00 - 2.10 meter (6.56 - 6.86 ft) dependent on the load. See immersion rate below.

The boat is typically equipped with an inboard Volvo Penta diesel engine at 28 hp (20 kW). The speed is 8.0 knots.

The transmission is a shaft drive. A shaft drive will in the long run require less maintenance than other types of drive e.g. a sail drive.

The fuel tank, which is made of stainless steel, has a capacity of 70.0 liters (18 US gallons, 15 imperial gallons).

Sailing characteristics

The capsize screening value for X-372 is 2.09, indicating that this boat would not be accepted to participate in ocean races.

What is Theoretical Maximum Hull Speed?

The theoretical maximal speed of a displacement boat of this length is 7.3 knots. The term "Theoretical Maximum Hull Speed" is widely used even though a boat can sail faster. The term shall be interpreted as above the theoretical speed a great additional power is necessary for a small gain in speed.

The immersion rate is defined as the weight required to sink the boat a certain level. The immersion rate for X-372 is about 215 kg/cm, alternatively 1205 lbs/inch. Meaning: if you load 215 kg cargo on the boat then it will sink 1 cm. Alternatively, if you load 1205 lbs cargo on the boat it will sink 1 inch.
