It’s one of the best ways to explore the continent, although you are faced with some tough decisions: spend the afternoon snorkelling that secluded cove, or sail Croatia’s favourite archipelago? Indulge in a family-run taverna banquet, or burn the calories on a bike ride through the hinterland? To take that evening cocktail before or after Santorini’s marmalade sunset? Ah, decisions, decisions…

What is life on the boat like.

We use classic monohull yachts for our European sailing adventures (it helps to get into that old-school Euro vibe). As a guide, a typical 50ft yacht for eight travellers is equipped with four twin/double cabins, two or three shared bathrooms and two showers. You’ll be lead by one of our experienced skippers who knows these waters like the back of their hand.

Life on the boat goes at your own pace: help out on deck as much as you wish, or just lie back and enjoy the ride. The choice is entirely up to you. Just keep in mind: cabin arrangements can be quite cosy so as to leave more room for onboard communal areas.

When’s the best time to go sailing in Europe?

Peak season for sailing holidays in the Mediterranean is between June and August, when the sun is hottest and many Europeans have their summer holidays. But if you want to beat the crowds while still enjoying that trademark Med sun, try travelling in spring (mid-April to May) or autumn (September to mid-October): temperatures are more pleasant, the waters are still calm, and you won’t have to fight for that beachside sunbed.

Will I get seasick sailing in Europe?

The extent and severity of seasickness varies from person to person. Some may be lucky enough to experience no symptoms at all while others may suffer headaches, dizziness and vomiting. Usually all symptoms of seasickness resolve after some time to adjust to life onboard.

The Dalmatian Coast is protected from rough seas thanks to the belt of islands just off mainland Croatia. As a result, many passengers will not experience prolonged symptoms of seasickness in this area. While the Mediterranean Sea can be choppy, especially in the fall, sailing between the Greek islands is usually a peaceful voyage.

Sailing conditions on and around the Amalfi Coast are typically mild with frequent periods of calm. Expect no more than a light 8-12 knot (8-13 miles) per hour south easterly wind in the afternoons; perfect for the experienced and novice sailor alike. While we can’t guarantee pristine conditions, you are unlikely to encounter any rough, open seas with the tidal range a minute 30-60 centimeters (1-2 feet).

Can I learn to sail the boat?

Absolutely. The best bit about our small group sailing adventures is we cap our group sizes at 8 travellers. That means our skippers have more time to get to know you and, if you’re interested, teach you all about sailing. Our skippers have years of experience sailing and relish the opportunity to share their passion with their groups.

Are cabins above or below deck?

All cabins on our Europe sailing trips are located below deck.

What cabin configurations are available on the boats?

Each sailing vessel typically comes with three twin/double cabins, as well as a couple of single berths for staff. Your skipper will allocate rooms on arrival. Passengers travelling in pairs will be accommodated together while solo travellers will be placed with a fellow passenger of the same gender wherever possible. This may mean sharing a double mattress or twin mattresses side by side.

Solo travellers have the option of booking a cabin to themselves for an additional fee, please ask our team at the time of your booking for more details.

If you do not identify with the gender assigned on your passport, please let us know at the time of booking so we can make an adjustment to your sleeping arrangements.

Where does the skipper sleep?

The skipper sleeps in his/her own quarters, which are typically allocated at the front of the boat. Refer to the detailed deck plans of our boats for more information on bunk locations.

Can I charge my appliances onboard?

Yes, all cabins come equipped with electrical sockets. Travellers simply need to bring an adaptor with them. See below for electrical outlets by country:

France: Type C (European 2-pin), Type E (French 2-pin, female earth)

Italy: Type C (European 2-pin), Type F (German 2-pin, side clip earth), Type L (Italian 3-pin)

Croatia: Type C (European 2-pin), Type F (German 2-pin, side clip earth)

Is there internet access onboard?

WiFi is not available onboard our boats, but travellers may be able to access Wi-Fi while docked at ports and marinas.

Is there air conditioning onboard?

Airconditioning isn't available on our boats but some boats do have fans in the cabins. All boats will have hatches that can be opened for ventiliation. During warmer months, travellers can even choose to sleep on deck under the stars.

What extra expenses do I need to pay for?

You will need to allow budget to pay for any additional meals that aren't included in the itinerary (see your Essential Trip Information for more details on meal inclusions), as well as money for souvenirs and alcoholic drinks. Is there a security deposit required?

No, we do not require our travellers to pay a security deposit on any of our sailing trips.

The Labyrinth of Crete

Everything was very well organised and the tours we made were very interesting or in beautiful nature. The guides were excellent, very kind, very helpfull and widely documented about history and special items in nature and agriculture. Darrel, the Safari driver had the real and right skills to drive on difficult paths. He was a lovely man, who told us really everything and again , he helped us with all kinds of things. My son, who is disabled , got all the help he needed, also from the passengers. The hotel was outstanding. The Sea was at our feet, the service was super and the food could’nt Be any better! For the tours we had to Be picked up in the other hotel “Creta Maris” . That was too far way for my disabled son. In the evening after a very busy day in 30° , we had to return on foot to our hotel which was really Difficult. Thomas,my son and me, we couldn’t visit the cave of Zeus. It’s far too difficult for a disabled person. I think you should have told us this, in advance. Now it was a disapointment. Our room in the hotel was too far from the dining room, again difficult for Thomas and it was quiet steep for him. But thes are little details , as we were so happy with this beautiful and relaxing journey! Congratulations Tourradar and Tui as well! Martine and Thoms

Being the owner of its sailing catamarans fleet Yacht Voyage operates the boats at three European bases: in Spain – the Mallorca island, Palma, in Sardinia in Italy, Marina di Olbia and in Montenegro in Tivat, Marina Solila.

For the sake of your comfort all the bases are located near the airports, hotels, shops. European countries are famous for their marvelous historical places, architecture, ecologically beneficial regions. The sea tourism will not only offer you a new look at Europe but also will surprise you with the highest level of comfort.

What you get choosing our destinations

Sardegna, Corsica, Italy

The Italian island Sardinia is very famous for various cozy distant beaches reachable only from sea. Many famous people – businessmen, politicians, stars makes their choice for these places not only for their natural beauty but also for the good infrastructure, high standards of comfort, professionally trained multilingual staff doing their best to make you feel relaxed. All this you may find in the most prestigious Sardinian yacht clubs like for example Porto Cervo.

The location of the island gives you the opportunity to moor in calm lagoon for a swim or sail under the light breeze along the coast line as well as experience real yachting with good wind in the Bonifacio Strait. This is the place where Yacht Voyage usually organizes its regatta in the end of the season .

Next to Sardinia there lies well-known Corsica. Its Southern part being VIP resort is famous for the most beautiful marinas, private beaches and restaurants with fresh sea food. Not to mention the rest the infinity swimming pool in Porto Vecchia is definitely worth visiting to experience amazing view from the pool over dolphins and yachts entering the bay.

We advise you to start your European vacation from Spain and namely from the island of Mallorca the most well-known and popular summer resort. Mallorca and the Balearics are the choice both of the royal family members and adventure lovers. Party fans, nature lovers, VIPs, politicians, water sportsmen and just tourist families who want to spend their time at sea come here to enjoy the democracy of this amazing island. Child free tourists will be fond of the beaches, bars and clubs at Cala Mayor. Families with children will enjoy the eastern part of the island Cala de Or where calm and cozy bays with sandy beaches are protected from strong winds and intensive sun by pine forest.

We cannot help mentioning Ibiza the most well-known party island. Here the young (and not so young) people are clubbing all nights to get back to their yachts at the day time and to be ready for the next dancing night. The third island of the Balearics is a calm and cozy Formentera full of bays and beaches and covered by century-old forests. This is the right place for a honeymoon or romantic week in privacy.

The democratic Montenegro has always been famous for its rather low prices, sailing yachts and the variety of sea food. All this you may find in one place at Marina Solila where the base of yacht Voyage is located. We have beach club Movida with an excellent restaurant and private parking , the big catamaran for daily cruises along the Montenegrin coast and the largest sailing catamaran fleet for week rental . Tivat airport is located nearby and all the taxi drivers know how to get to our base. You may organize a corporate party here, enjoy DJ music, have a swim or enjoy sunbathing, try fresh sea food surrounded by your friends or family – in all cases you will be satisfied and will not get bored.

When you start your sailing week with Yacht Voyage from Montenegro you will be able to reach Croatia – the famous place for sailing. And if you prefer active vacations and rent a catamaran for a couple of weeks you will manage to visit three countries – Montenegro, Croatia and Italy with its ancient historical town Bari!

Holidays in Europe - budget calculation

Comparing the charter budget with a regular 7-day hotel accommodation you will be pleased to know that the yacht holiday per person results cheaper!

Let’s count:

Catamaran Lagoon 400 that can provide comfortable accommodation for 8-10 people (we will take 8 persons as an example). Week rental cost in Italy in medium season is 4500 EUR. Skipper rate is 200 EUR per day, comfort pack (that includes final cleaning, bed sheets, towels and gas) is 220 EUR, dinghy with an outboard engine is 100 EUR, let’s also take a kayak for 150 EUR (per week) or any other water toy. Rods, snorkeling sets are available aboard for free.

The total will be 4500 + 200 * 7 + 220 + 100 + 150 = 6370/8persons = and results just 796,25 EUR per person.

Let’s add 250 EUR for you flight, 150 EUR for provisioning and 35 EUR for Italian visa (in case needed), the total will be 1211,25 EUR per person. At first sight it seems to be rather expensive but when you reserve accommodation in a 3 or 4* hotel in Italy you pay this amount just for your 7-night stay.

And if we consider also the level of comfort, freedom and exclusiveness the yacht rental is 100 times more advantageous.
