Lagoon 50 catamaran.

Winner of The Multihull of The Year Award 2018, the British Yachting Awards 2018, and the Sail’s Best Boat of The Year Award of 2019, the Lagoon 50 catamaran offers some thoughtful and innovative features. Some parts of the catamaran – such as the cockpit and the saloon – have been completely redesigned.

DESIGN – INTERIOR & EXTERIOR

The interior design of the Lagoon 50 is a product of the Nauta Design while Patrick Le Quement and VPLP Design gave shape to its exterior. The Lagoon 50 catamaran, with its rich and dark Alpi Walnut plywood construction and UV varnish finishing, comes with three, four, and even six cabin layouts and provides a generous amount of volume and space.

The aft cockpit of the Lagoon 50 can be easily accessed through two low transom steps and houses a polyester table to port that can be extended to accommodate up to 10 people and folded away when not needed. The seat is also removable and can be moved away when the table is extended. The aft cockpit itself has a galley, complete with its own countertops for drink and food preparation, a sink, a refrigerator and a few bottle holders. The forward cockpit has seats with two storage lockers underneath them and two trampolines.

Lagoon 50 catamaran has a large flybridge with a helm station which comes not only with a separate recreational area but also has storage space behind it. The helm seat at the station is spacious enough to accommodate up to 4 people, including the helm person, and the station is made comfortable by triple sun beds, back and knee rests behind the helm seat. The helm offers enough visibility for navigation to not be a problem but since the helm seat is right in the center, the view from directly behind the steering wheel is obstructed by the mast.

The helm station has an ideally angled dashboard, equipped with a B&G multifunction display and autopilot amongst other instruments. All the lines and the self-tacking jib sheets are managed with three Harken winches. There are also three integrated sheet bins to manage the sheets, a halyard and an electric drum to manage the continuous traveler sheet.

ACCOMODATIONS

In a three cabin version, the aft cabin of the Lagoon 50 catamaran has a double bed with lateral access and a drawer underneath, two bedside tables, and a shelf. There is enough storage space with a full-height locker, wardrobe, and bookcase. The deck hatch above the bed allows for ventilation and light. The aft bathroom has a manual toilet, a separate shower with Plexiglass door, multiple storage units and fixed window. The forward cabin and bathroom offer the same facilities but the owner’s suite is slightly more lavish with multiple bookcases, a sofa, a desk, its own bathroom with separate shower and toilet areas, and a walk-in closet.

Leveled with the cockpit, the saloon of the Lagoon 50 is a laid-back, comfortable living space that has plenty of room for entertaining guests or hosting a party. It is covered with a hard-top Bimini and houses a U-shaped sofa with a dining table and a fully-equipped chart table. The characteristic Lagoon vertical windows wrap around the saloon giving an almost continuous panoramic view while also maintaining the temperature and preventing the inside from heating up.

Lagoon 50 also has a dedicated space for the navigation station which comes equipped with a B&G MFD, a VHF, and autopilot on a navigation desk covered in leather.

The galley is L-shaped and accessed through a sliding door. It has a four-burner gas stove and a gas oven, fully integrated sink with storage cupboards, shelves, drawers, and lockers. The galley also has a 190 liters, stainless steel drawer fridge. Between the living space and the cockpit, the galley has enough space for food preparation to be done by multiple people without coming in each other’s way and allows enough room for food and drinks to be stored. The drinks and such can be directly served through the window that opens into the forward cockpit.

ENGINE ROOMS

The two engine rooms of the Lagoon 50 catamaran house one 57 HP Yanmar diesel engines each with sail drives and folding propellers. The engine rooms are accessed through hatches that open up and aft so that they can be safely accessed from the cockpit without having to expose oneself on the steps. The engine rooms have enough space for maintenance checks.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

The overall length of the Lagoon 50 catamaran is 14.75 meters while the maximum beam is 8.10 meters. With the displacement of 19.9 tons, Lagoon 50 catamaran has an air draft of 26. 51 meters and a draft of 1.40 meters. It has a total freshwater capacity of 2 x 240 liters and a fuel capacity of 2 x 520 liters.

The price of the Lagoon 50 catamaran varies from $650,000 to $700,000.

In conclusion, Lagoon 50 catamaran is an appreciable option for someone who wants to settle somewhere between the Lagoon 52 and Lagoon 450.The Lagoon 50 particularly wins because of the generous amount of volume and room it offers which grants enough privacy for a family to be comfortable onboard. The performance has also been optimized by a greater aspect ratio of the mainsail and the moving of the mast further aft. All in all, Lagoon 50 does justice to the price tag it comes with.

Design Exterior

There are plenty of ways to relax on the deck of the LAGOON 50. In the protected aft cockpit, in the front cockpit, on the foredeck or in the spacious lounge area on the flybridge.

The LAGOON 50 catamaran has a large, practical and open cockpit with perfect all-round visibility. As usual on Lagoon catamarans, it is easy to get on and off-board thanks to the large rear steps on the transom. The flybridge of the LAGOON 50 can be accessed from two sides and it houses the helm station which has perfect all-round visibility. There is sufficient storage space under the seats in the cockpit and on the flybridge. The second cockpit of the LAGOON 50 is located on the foredeck and offers 2 possible uses: either on the same level with the trampoline on the bow or embedded as a seating area. The flexible seating and chill area behind the helm on the catamaran offer sufficient storage space. The easily modifiable dining area of the LAGOON 50 with removable seats offers a feel-good atmosphere for children and adults.

Design Interior

The spatial comfort of the LAGOON 50 is diverse. Thanks to the fact that the large freshwater and holding tanks are installed under the floorboards, there is a vast space available on the LAGOON 50 catamaran. A gray water tank can also be optionally installed!

The salon concept on the LAGOON 50 catamaran meets the spirit of the times. The salon is on 2 levels, but the 2 areas are not enclosed from each other. There is a large pantry on the side of the cockpit. On the other side there is a slightly higher seating area that provides an even better panoramic view. The interior, the layout of the LAGOON 50 is not only smart, but also comfortably designed. The large-scale layout is well-thought-out and reveals an innovative concept in which every single detail fits perfectly together. The LAGOON 50 catamaran comes with 3, 4, 5, or 6 cabins and at request can be easily customized!

The inside and outside of the LAGOON 50 harmonize perfectly and are connected by a large sliding door. The panoramic window in the middle can be opened for the best ventilation in the cockpit and saloon. The interior design can be configured by the owner individually, but the endless impressive wood finish options are hard to choose from. The aft cabins are flooded with light – this is ensured by the large portholes and the beautiful panoramic windows. All cabins in the hull of the LAGOON 50 are equipped with island beds and offer plenty of storage space (shelves, cupboards).

The LAGOON 50 catamaran has a mast positioned further aft that opens up to additional advantages. The outstanding features include the self-tacking jib, shorter boom for easier maneuvers, and the forestay/forward triangle for a better selection of downwind sails.

How is the performance of the LAGOON 50 optimized? The re-centering of weight, thanks to aft positioning of rigging, considerably reduces the boat’s pitch. In addition, the mainsail with a high-aspect-ratio captures the airflow in the upper part better, which ensures the best catamaran sailing performance.

The large, open-plan, aft cockpit of the Lagoon 50 catamaran features an L-shaped lounge area that is very comfortable for general leisure and provides uninterrupted views of the ocean beyond. In the evening, the cockpit can be transformed into a fabulous dining area, seating a large number of guests for dinner, and a small wet bar with a sink and ice maker is perfectly placed for serving drinks. Plus, the carefully designed steps provide easy access from the lower stern platform.

There is a spacious helm station with a centre steering wheel to ensure the best possible visibility on the raised flybridge. A large sundeck is positioned just behind the wheel to allow the helmsman to drive, whilst enjoying the company of a partner or guests relaxing nearby.

The Lagoon 50 is a dream to sail. The central mast is positioned further aft to help reduce pitching and the tall, high-aspect mainsail provides excellent performance. Shorthanded crews will benefit from the large self-tacking headsail and a short and easy-to-reef boom .

The Lagoon 50 catamaran’s large and spacious saloon is truly unique. The well-equipped galley is positioned aft and looks onto the elevated saloon area for a fabulous open-plan living space. The slightly raised lounge with large glazing provides panoramic views that can be enjoyed whether sitting or standing. Furthermore, the comfortable, deluxe seating area features a clever fold-away table that can be adjusted in height to be suitable as a dining table or coffee table. This creates the perfect dining area that can be used by cr ew s large or small.

There are 4 sumptuous double cabins and an additional two compact doubles amidships. Each cabin has its own head and shower. There is a skipper’s cabin in the port bow and a head and shower in the starboard bow.

Did you know Horizon’s charters start and finish at noon? This means we can get you out sailing your first afternoon after your briefings – remember to watch your video briefings to speed up your check out! At the end of your trip, you sail back to Nanny Cay to refuel and debrief before your noon departure. This gives you a full 6 nights/7 days chartering around our beautiful islands, unlike some companies that start at 5pm, meaning you will have to sleepaboard* at the docks, and then finish at 10am, again meaning you will probably have to stay overnight on the docks the night before you leave to fly home.

*If available, a sleep aboard can be added the night before your charter start for a small supplement, boarding your yacht after 5pm.

Our standard charter rates are applicable for charters of 5 days or more up to a maximum of five weeks. For a tailored quote for charter durations outside this range please contact our reservations team who will be pleased to assits.

Horizon Yacht Charters BVI Charter Rates are listed above. Yacht photographs and specifications act as a guide and are for information purposes only. Although we endeavour to ensure that images are accurate reflections of the yachts in our fleet, certain aspects may vary slightly, such as yacht deck, the colour of the hull, dodger or bimini.

May we advise that HDW insurance, Cruising Permits and National Parks Permit are payable before departure from the dock in cash or travellers’ cheques, as using a Credit Card will incur a 5% surcharge. Upon return of the vessel, you are required to top off the water and fuel tanks, which you receive full upon boarding the vessel.

BVI Charter Rates shown above are for 6 nights per vessel (min 5 nights except for Christmas and New Year min 7 nights + supplements on selected yachts) with the additional daily rate should you wish to add nights. BVI Charters start and finish at noon. Sleep-aboard (the option of staying on board your yacht at the dock) with the boarding of your vessel available after 5.00 pm, can sometimes be added to the start of your charter at an extra charge of $75.00 per head per night (minimum of $200.00 per night), depending upon yacht availability.

Hull Damage Waiver Insurance is compulsory for $60.00 (max $600) per day for Monohulls and $70.00 (max $700) per day for Catamarans. Security deposit is $2000 for monohulls and cats 41ft and under, and $5000 for cats 42ft plus. This limits your liability to the security deposit (either $2000 or $5000) per incident relating to the yacht and 3% of hull value per incident if in contravention of the Client Responsibility Agreement or the Charter Contract.
Skippers are available from $225.00 per day, Instructors from $275.00 per day and Cooks from $225.00 per day (plus food and gratuity).

An Environmental levy of $10 per head is payable by all visitors to the BVI on arrival (effective 1st Sept 2017).

Bookings and Cancellations – We require a 50% deposit to confirm the reservation and the balance due of 50% should be received by Horizon Yacht Charters no later than 45 days prior to the charter start date. A full refund less a $200.00 administration fee is given should the reservation be cancelled in writing up to 90 days prior to the charter start date. If the charter is cancelled within 90 days of the charter start date, then a full refund (less $200.00) is made subject to Horizon Yacht Charters reselling the charter space reserved.

If you have a mix of snorkelers, beachgoers, shoppers and sailors onboard then give your group flexibility by taking the standard dinghy included in your charter as well. This will also remove the need to make multiple dinghy trips ashore for larger groups.

Lagoon 50 Catamaran Review

At a press event during the Miami International Boat Show last winter, the Lagoon 50 was described by a company spokeswoman as being “the most open-minded catamaran on the market.” That’s a statement that could be taken in a number of ways.

First, there are the multiple social areas encompassed by the boat’s 48-foot-5-inch LOA and 26-foot-7-inch beam. There are dining tables indoors and out, lounge areas astern and forward. Overhead, the flybridge offers more room to gather or get away. The crew could sunbathe on cushions that store in a locker built into the Bimini, or take a seat by the wheel and help out with the sailing, though, to be honest, with autopilot, a self-tacking jib and electric winches at your fingertips, it’s possible to keep things simple. Then again, roll out the optional genoa and sheet it home, and things can get sporty, real quick.

We tried a little of both in some breeze after the show. With a reef in the main and the self-tending jib trimmed home, coming about required turning the wheel and adjusting the traveler using the nearby electric Harken line drive.

Later, with the big (optional) headsail set, well, I was happy to have a couple of extra sets of hands to help sort out steering, blowing one sheet and trimming the other, and keeping track of the high-aspect square-top main. For the record, beating in about 15 knots of breeze, the speedo ranged from 5.6 to 6.2 knots; with the genoa unfurled and on a reach, the GPS read 9 knots and change.

Open-minded could also refer to the range of layouts available. The cat we sailed featured an owners suite in the starboard hull with an island-style double berth aft, a head with separate shower in the bow and a walk-in dressing room inboard and just forward of the companionway to the saloon. Portside, there were cabins fore and aft with en-suite separate head and shower. Instead of a dressing room, there was a cavernous storage space inboard. If desired, the port heads could be reconfigured to create three single-stall heads with showers, and the storage space could be transformed into another double cabin. And if an owner chose to forgo a master suite, a six-cabin, six-head layout is also available, though to me, 12 crew even on a 50-footer seems tight.

All that room for variation below translated into abundant living space above. Stepping aboard from the optional fold-down swim and tender platform, a long couch spanned the transom, with storage on the port end and a barbecue on the other that can be spun around so you can cook either from the cockpit or transom stairs. A teak table was forward to port, located nearby the L-shaped galley just inside the saloon. With both its leaves open, the table seats 12. Opposite was a cushioned couch alongside a fridge, ice maker and sink.

Entering the saloon, you step into the cook’s domain, with L-shaped Corian counters to either side of the sliding glass door. To port, there was sink, cooktop, oven and microwave; to starboard sat a fridge, freezer and storage. Ahead, an island offered yet more locker and counter space, and it served as a transition to a raised living area that was a step higher than the rest of the bridgedeck. A full-size nav station was to starboard. Forward of that, a U-shaped couch wrapped around the front of the saloon. In the center, there was a clever table arrangement: Upright, it was for dining; tipped aft and lowered on its hinged legs, it rested against the island (which also housed a retractable flat-screen TV) and became a place to set cocktails or popcorn on movie night.

There was yet more seating on the foredeck, where another U-shaped couch (forward-facing this time) surrounded another small table. The builder designed the center saloon window so it lowered to let in the breeze or so crew inside and out could converse.

The 50 comes standard with a pair of 57 hp Yanmars. The boat we sailed was powered with optional 80 hp Yanmars. The option list included a number of other upgrades, including an 11 kW Onan genset, which brought the price tag to just about 1.07 million euros (roughly $1.32 million, depending on currency fluctuations).

Lagoon has bigger boats in its range, but they’re designed with a captain and crew in mind. The 50 is meant for the owner and mates who’ve outgrown their 45-footer but still want to go off voyaging on their own, and can do so thanks to a networked plotter and autopilot, a bow thruster, a self-tacking jib and power winches. When it comes down to what’s possible, it pays to keep an open mind.

Lagoon 50 Catamaran – The Prestigious Multihull

The Lagoon 50 is an all-new 48-foot-long catamaran from Lagoon that’s designed and built by the French expert designers VPLP. The exterior design of the vessel was done by the legendary Patrick le Quement while the classy interior was the brilliant work of Nauta Design. What’s more striking in the Lagoon 50, compared to other models, is her new sleek hull design, advanced sporty lines, and easy-to-handle rig and deck layout.

Aside from her stunning beauty on the outside, she boasts of a superbly comfortable interior, practical cabin layouts, and generous exterior deck space that can sync with every holidaymaker’s needs. Her performance at sea is also uncompromising, something that takes the sailing experience to a whole new level.

The below Lagoon 50 catamaran review takes a close-up look at the vessel’s design (both interior & exterior), onboard amenities, and what to expect when you charter it:

Accommodation

Lagoon 50 comes with six cabins that are capable of hosting up to 12 guests in utmost comfort and luxury. The master suite, which takes up almost all the space in the starboard hull, is equipped with a desk (with a built-in bookcase and small settee), ahead with a separate shower and walk-in closet/ dressing room.

On the port side, there are cabins fore and aft, furnished with en-suite separate head and shower. The port heads can be re-configured to create three single-stall heads with showers if need be. Instead of a walking closet, these cabins only have a cavernous storage space in-board, which can be easily transformed into another double cabin.

If you don’t want a master suite, there is a 6-cabin, 6-head layout that you can make use of in this vessel. All the aft cabins are fitted with panoramic glazing that allows a generous amount of light to pour in. The large hull portholes in the showers and bathrooms of the cabins also add to the comfort at sea, especially when sailing during bad weather.

The cat’s interior is spacious, with every design detail brought out perfectly to create a warm and cozy atmosphere. Her innovative saloon incorporates two separate but cohesive areas. On one side is a large galley, which opens onto the cockpit while on the other lies a slightly elevated lounge area that provides amazing vision over the waters.

The galley comes in two sections: two refrigerator drawers on the starboard side and a three-burner Eno stove and a sink on the port side. The countertop space on the galley is vast, making it more comfortable and more convenient for cooks and bartenders to prepare food and drinks.

Just close to the L-shaped galley in the saloon is a teak table with open leaves that can seat up to 12 guests. Opposite it lies a cushioned couch alongside a sink fridge and ice maker. All these, when combined with the plush accommodations, make relaxing and resting on board a soothing experience.

Lagoon 50’s helm is on the flybridge, where there’s a long bench seat that can accommodate the captain and at least three companions.

Just below the flybridge is a cockpit area facing out to the sea with a huge modular dining area that’s furnished with a dining table, comfortable sofas, removable benches, and storage spaces.

There are two access points to the flybridge, where you can enjoy great comfort and visibility. Vast storage spaces also exist under most of the flybridge and cockpit seats, where guests can put in their extra stuff.

Entertainment

Lagoon 50 is furnished with all the entertainment facilities that can make your onboard experience lively, fun and interactive. Within the salon, there’s a flat screen TV, Video Cassette Recorder (VCR) and a stereo that you can use to entertain yourself and the guests.

You also have access to onboard Wi-Fi that’s available 24 Hours. That means you can easily browse the internet and share your experiences with friends and family online at any time of the day.

Performance

The 50’s twin 57-HP Yanmar diesel engines (upgradable to 80 HP) with sail drives and folding propellers can deliver up a cool 9.5 knots at 3000 rpm. If you’re looking for fuel efficiency, then you can go at 2200 rpm with 7.5 knots in speed. Lagoon 50 further has a networked plotter and autopilot, a self-tacking jib, a bow thruster, and power winches, which make her performance stunning.

Where Does Lagoon 50 Sail

Lagoon 50 is available for sailing across many places. But in a typical summer, you’ll find it in Croatia. The preferred pickup point is Marina Kastela, SPLIT. Alternatively, you can use the other pick-up area, which is ACI Dubrovnik, if you feel that’s a more convenient point for you.

I think the comfort that the vessel offer the passenger is incredible because I can’t think of myself traveling in that vessel and not having access to the internet and listen to music, these are things that makes the modern life worth living. It is nice that the manufacturer included this, and the fact that it engine is upgradable to 80 horse power makes it a fantastical purchase.How much do you think a fairly used Lagoon 50 will cost?

Truly, this vessel is more beautiful than many homes on land, and it would surely make for the ideal vacation you suggest. Since I’m not very familiar yet with this kind of adventure, how many people usually comprise the crew for such a vessel? Do they use some of the sleeping accommodations you describe? That’s right, who wouldn’t want to spend vacations on this boat:) The Lagoon 50 can be rented without a crew. This means if you have a skipper license, you can navigate the boat yourself. Another possibility is to hire a skipper and even add more crew to the party such as a hostess, chef, etc. Usually, the skipper has his own cabin, but if space is restricted, then he will sleep in the saloon. There are lounge areas in the boat that can be converted to a bed in the evening:)

It’s amazing to see how beautiful can be a catamaran in 2019! It seems like you’re living at home while sailing though Mediterranean see. It would be great to have a look to the costs of staying in the different harbors of Croatia and maybe down till Greece to have an idea to plan better a journey with the costs of every situation! Seeing the costs of the catamaran it’s not so prohhibitive.. .very good!

True, the Lagoon 50 is a beautiful yacht. It is truly a resort that floats on the water. You choose your own itinerary; price varies depending on the duration, season, etc. If you don’t have any bareboat license, then a skipper on board will be required. And yes, the price is very attractive!

Hi; I can see from your record of building January 2019, that the Lagoon 50 is relatively new. About how many hours, days, or weeks did it take the builders of Lagoon 50 to start and complete this magnificent “sea Machine”?

Should I choose the Lagoon 50 for my next vacation, where would I board the Craft?

This is a question you will have to ask the manufacturer:) I have no idea on how long it took for them to build the Lagoon 50.

Anyway, as it is mentioned in the article, there are several pickup points. Kastela, Split, and Dubrovnik.

Croatia has been on my bucket list for quite some time now. I had not thought about chartering a catamaran, but what a great idea! We are planning our family reunion, and this looks like a great way to do it! I will be checking out the pricing and seeing if it will fall in our budget. Do you know how far Marina Kastela is from the airport?
