In December 2021, the brand opened a new concept store at Malpensa Airport in Milan, Italy. This is supposed to be a restart of their brand, which will usher in many new and exciting projects for 2022.

Sustainable Raw Materials

While Paul & Shark dedicate themselves to such values, this doesn’t mean they disregard their environmental footprint. In fact, they’re committed to using sustainable raw materials to keep their carbon footprint as small as possible.

For example, this brand uses hand-picked cotton grown with low-impact methods. And they source recycled wool and goose down to not only reduce CO2 emissions and save water but also reduce the exploitation of animals.

Paul & Shark also has a gold-level plastic-free certificate by Sfridoo and a UNI EN ISO 14001:2015 certification. The latter means they’ve received recognition for their efforts as an industry leader that’s environmentally responsible.

Protection From Electromagnetic Waves (EMW)

Are you worried about harmful EMW coming from your mobile devices? Paul & Shark’s garments are lined with metal alloy fabric, which provides a shield against these harmful waves.

TYPHOON 20000 uses an ultra-thin membrane that’s impenetrable for water. Any person that wears a garment with this treatment can trust that they’ll stay dry, even in the most turbulent waters.

Brave the Winds

The ocean can be not only cold but also windy. Harsh winds can make it feel colder than it really is, which can put a damper on any  yachting trip .

TYPHOON 20000 uses a revolutionary process that allows every square centimetre of the fabric to withstand a 20-meter column. Not only that, but it’ll also hold up against strong gusts of wind.

Feel Comfortable

Often, waterproof and windproof materials don’t feel very comfortable; they tend to trap heat and sweat. The technology for TYPHOON 20000 changes all this.

This treatment is a membrane that’s highly breathable, which helps with air circulation. This breathability won’t have you sitting and soaking in sweat, as it’ll disperse excess body heat.

In addition, Paul & Shark line their garments with thermometric stitching. This helps keep you warm with little rubbing and chafing.

Collaboration With White Mountaineering

White Mountaineering is a Japanese label known for its urban look. These 2 brands came together for a fall 2021 capsule collaboration, which features all-black garments. The selection ranges from jackets and sweaters to T-shirts and vests.

Partnership With Shark Trust

Paul & Shark partnered with Shark Trust to bring a capsule collection. There’s a special logo designed by the Shark Trust that appears on these garments. 10% of sales from these pieces will be donated to this organization.

Second Life Project

This brand aims to reduce waste by repairing defective garments and repurposing them as new unique pieces. 20% of the proceeds are given to various sustainable projects in the world.

LONDON — Paul&Shark has returned to the British capital with a new flagship that’s a tribute to quiet luxury, tradition and family.

The family-owned Italian label has opened at 233 Regent Street in the former Lacoste space with neighbors including Apple, Longchamp and Tory Burch.

The store, just a few steps from Oxford Circus, measures 2,580 square feet over two floors, and the focus is on sustainability.

Andrea Dini , chief executive officer of Paul&Shark whose grandfather founded the company, said the versatile, composite material comes in slabs and can also be recycled.

During a walk-through, Dini described the new London unit as the brand’s European flagship. It is also the latest of Paul&Shark’s directly operated stores in Europe to reopen with the new design concept. Next up is the brand’s space at Rinascente in Milan, which is set to open on Friday.

Europe represents half of Paul&Shark’s business, and while Italy is the largest market, generating 10 percent of revenue, London is the brand’s window on the world.

Dini said that despite Brexit, and the government’s repeal of tax-free shopping in the U.K. , London remains important for “American, Canadian, Middle Eastern and Chinese — as well as European — customers” visiting the British capital.

“For us, London, and the whole of the U.K., is a key market. We will keep investing in it, both from a communication and commercial perspective,” said Dini.

He’s thrilled with the location. The previous store was a franchise on Lower Regent Street, nearer to Piccadilly Circus, which doesn’t get the same quality of customers, or the footfall, as the area near Oxford Circus.

The old store shut during the pandemic after the lease ran out, and Dini said he immediately began looking for a better space.

The Regent Street flagship is directly operated, with interiors designed by the Milan-based BBA Studio. BBA’s client roster includes brands such as Missoni, Valentino, Bottega Veneta, Diesel and Balmain.

The store also showcases the new face of Paul&Shark.

“We’ve rebranded, and there’s no longer the word ‘yachting’ in the logo. This brand will always be about water, life by the sea, and protection from the rain and snow,” said Dini, adding that the goal is to broaden Paul&Shark’s appeal beyond yachting.

Dini said the brand has also re-embraced “clean lines, quiet luxury and outdoor elegance” and wants to be known for classic clothing that can be passed down through the generations.

That’s also the reason that Paul&Shark booked Pierce Brosnan and his youngest son Paris for the fall 2023 and spring 2024 ad campaigns. The current campaign was shot at a castle in Tuscany with an underlying message of family and legacy.

As part of that message, the brand has installed a personalization station on the second floor where customers can have their pieces monogrammed, or stitched with flags or special messages.

The brand isn’t stopping with London, and has great global ambitions. Five new stores in China and two in India are in the works. The company is also planning to open units in Egypt, Iraq and Ukraine with local partners in the near future.

In 2024, the company will turn its attention to the U.S., with plans to open a flagship in Miami with its new distribution partner. Going forward, there are also plans to open in New York.

Paul&Shark

On 4 March 1957, the mill Maglificio Daco, founded in 1921, opened its doors under the new owner Gian Ludovico Dini. Every aspect of the production took place within the company: from sourcing the yarns to producing the fabrics and making all the packaging. Clothes were shipped around the world thanks to prestigious partnerships with Christian Dior and Balenciaga.

At the start of the 1970s, Paolo (Paul) Dini, the eldest son of Gian Ludovico, during a trip to a small sailmaker’s workshop in Maine, found a sail from an old 18th-century clipper that caught his attention: the inscription read “Paul&Shark”.

It was fate.

The Paul&Shark brand was born.

The yachting collection dates back to the mid-1970s, when Paul&Shark entered the luxury sportswear sector with a collection inspired by the sea, the world of sailing and the spirit of adventure.

In 1978 the C0P918 pullover was born: a sailing sweater that would become an icon of the Paul&Shark style: immediately recognizable from its packaging, a metal used onboard boats as a multi-purpose container. The water-repellent sweater had immediate success and signaled the start of a whole new water-repellent knitwear collection.

Over the years the company has expanded to become a comprehensive smart casual and luxury sportswear brand, famous for the quality of its garnments, appreciated by fans of Italian design and high-performance technical materials, many of which have been patented by Paul&Shark.

Paul&Shark collections (men’s, children’s and accessories) are available throughout the world in 73 different countries, 458 cities and more than 280 Paul&Shark monobrand boutiques located in the most exclusive shopping areas, from Via Montenapoleone in Milan, to Rue du Faubourg St. Honore’ in Paris, to Dubai and Moscow.

Today the company is run by Andrea Dini, CEO and President, the third generation of the founding family.
