The Vegan Yacht austin tx

Ratings and reviews, location and contact.

This was previously a food truck but is now a permanent building with indoor seating. We enjoyed both of the burritos we got here. One was a take on frito pie that was so fun and the other was a BBQ based. The staff was... incredibly nice, and the food came out quickly. We really have nothing but good things to say about this place. If you’re in the mood for some indulgent vegan food then this is the place! More

One of the best things about Austin is how accessible veganism is. This place is a food truck next to a gas station. It's fast, tasty and inexpensive. We got the chili dog and burrito. The chili dog was savory, messy and decadent - like... a chili dog should be. The burrito was ok. The food truck and gas station make great strides to be eco-friendly; I got a cup of coffee and all the materials are zero waste. I really appreciate when businesses go the extra mile to be environmentally thoughtful. And the coffee was really good! More

Vegan or not vegan, the food here is amazing. I had the Buffalo Chicken Bowl which was delicious. The ingredients were fresh and you could taste the quality . You can’t get food like this just anywhere. Trust me. Next time I’m getting the famous... burrito. I can’t imagine that’s it’s any better than the bowl but I am told it is. More

We came here to try the Frito Pie and get some coffee at the cafe where they are located. The Frito pie was good... But not amazing. I could have made a better Frito pie at home. The Frito pie was also $9 and the... portion was tiny! After eating our portions we were both still hungry! One good thing that came from this is I'm inspired to go home and make my own (better) Frito pie. More

This place is amazing, and hands down my favorite food truck in Austin. My dad, who is a meat eater who scoffs at vegan "rabbit food", had lots of doubts about this eccentric food truck tucked away in downtown Austin, but I convinced him to... try it. He ended up telling not only me but also our neighbors how much he loved his burrito. I also had a frito burrito, which is basically a vegan frito pie wrapped up in a toasted tortilla with a side of hot sauce. On the inside of the burrito, there's melted vegan cheese, creamy avocado, chili, and crushed corn chips that added a satisfying crunch to the dish. The dish was mouth-watering and delicious, and I can't wait to revisit this vegan gem. Definitely recommend this place for the vegans in town. More

Came here because I am a vegetarian and have never encountered a veggie Frito pie.Since I was raised on the meat version of the frito pie, I was curious if they could come close. The place is a food trailer that is in a lot with... some picnic tables.Very typical of east austin.A funky ATM cash machine is at the front of the place.Only really 3 things on the menu, Vegan frito pies, vegan burritos and vegan mock chicken wraps. My friend and I had the frito pie and burrito and ate sll of it.You can order for extra for them to put on vegan cheese and/or avocado.Really good food cart food.Only drawback is the price.Either burrito or frito pie loaded is 10 dollars apiece.Did notind so much since it was a beautiful day outside to eat at picnic tsbles.Oh and if you want water it is a dollar for a pladtic mefium size cup of distilled water.Kinda pricey on the water but I do appreciate them recycling their trash.P.S. I think we were the only ones not wearing a black t shirt there. So East Austin. More

The BEST vegan queso/cheese. To die for! This was a wonderful little gem that we found in AUSTIN. All Vegan is NOT created equally. My oldest sister has always been skeptical of trying Vegan foods but we finally convinced her and this was the first place she tried....she fell in love and is actually considering becoming Vegan with myself and our younger sister. The people are extremely patient and friendly and just all around wonderful people. They make the food with excitement and joy and that makes me happy to eat it. Also awsome prices for the portions. We've planned another trip to Austin......just so we can come back here!
This place has the best Frito pie and vegan chili dog I've ever had. Hands down yummy, and a nice place to take the family out for a quick bite. The attached plant based vegan market is awesome as well. Another hidden treasure of Austin for those who are gluten free!!
Well priced, and very delicious. The staff are kind and professional. All items are vegan, and they are connected to the store next door, so it's a great place to go for eating, and to pick up some vegan groceries if needed.

Ultimate Austin Vegan Guide: Restaurants, Sights, & More

' src=

I had heard the rumblings that Austin is a vegan oasis nestled in the land of BBQ, ten-gallon hats, and cattle ranching, but I was always a little skeptical. How could the capital of such a conservative, gun-toting state also have a love affair with soy chorizo? Could it be possible?

After a recent visit, I can confirm what seems impossible is possible. I think that quirky contradiction is what makes Austin, Austin, or as locals like to remind visitors, keeps it weird.

Austin draws a diverse and eclectic crowd — musicians, hippies, hipsters, tech gurus, cowboys — and somehow, it works. It’s why you’ll find a parking lot of vegan food trucks buzzing with long lines, honky tonk line dancing lessons, and LGBTQIA+ clubs all saddled within the city limits. This diverging mix of cultures is what sets Austin apart.

If you’ve been pushing Austin down your must-visit list, this vegan travel guide will make you think again. Get ready to eat your body weight in the form of those iconic soy-rizo tacos!

Is Austin Vegan-Friendly?

Heck, yes, Austin is amazingly vegan-friendly! The capital of Texas is home to around 50 vegan and vegetarian restaurants and bakeries — including the city’s iconic vegan cheese shop, Rebel Cheese (you probably didn’t think you’d find that in Texas)!

In addition to the vegan and vegetarian spots, many restaurants also have vegan options. If restaurant jumping wasn’t enough to fill your food cravings, Austin is also the home of the original Whole Foods. You’ll find the massive flagship motherland right in the heart of downtown Austin. Of course, you’ll find all the usual grocery needs, but it’s also home to a vast prepared foods section, a vegan burger joint, a smoothie shop, and a wine bar (yep, you can sip sauvignon blanc and shop).

The Best Things to Do in Austin

Sip vegan wines at the austin winery .

I was surprised when I found a winery in Austin but even more surprised when I learned that Texas is the fourth-largest wine-producing state in the US! This hip winery is led by a team of self-taught winos that have set out to make natural, low-intervention wines that are vegan and accessible to all Austinites. The best way to experience their wine lineup is with a tasting — if you like light and fruity (but not super sweet), don’t skip the Red-Nat.

Aside from sipping sweet wines, there is one more bonus to visiting this spot — Lil Nonna’s vegan pizza truck is right around the corner. You can take your glass of wine, pizza pie, and sit on the picnic tables outside!

Take a tour by bike, foot, or bus of Austin

There is a lot to explore in the Live Music Capital of the World, and the best way to do it is on a guided tour. I always take some type of tour, no matter where I go. It’s the best way to learn a little backstory and discover what locals like to do.

Enjoy a Central Texas-inspired five-course vegan dinner with Loam Supper Club

If you can time your itinerary just right, you’re not going to want to miss these creative vegan dinner events. The plant-powered chef-curated menus feature local and seasonal ingredients with favorites like chickpea socca with lemon garlic confit aioli, romesco, charred scallions, and micro greens. Check out Whole Foods

You might be wondering, is she really suggesting going to the grocery store? I promise I haven’t lost my mind; this Whole Foods is unique! It’s the very first location, and it’s a natural foods mega mall! There are multiple levels (there is also a free parking garage, so park there if you’re exploring downtown) that include a Next Level Burger, Juice Land, beer and wine bar, and a massive prepared foods section. It’s a great place to grab a snack before wandering around downtown.

Check out a drag show at Cheer Up Charlie’s

There is truly no shortage of entertainment in Austin. You’ll find loads of music and comedy options, but why not pair a mix of both with a fun show at this vegan and queer bar! Cheer Up Charlie’s is located right downtown and offers a variety of events, from “Big Tits and Bigger Dreams” open mic nights to live DJs spinning funk, disco, and more. The bar offers fresh juice cocktails, kombucha, and when you get hungry, Arlo’s vegan burger truck is right next door!

Explore all of Austin’s green spaces

Austin is well known for its love of all things green (not just food)! Whether you’re looking for a park to wander in the city or want to go for a hike, you have options! A few places to check out include:

Zilker Park

This is one of Austin’s most popular parks. Its 351 acres are home to a natural spring-fed swimming pool, sculpture garden, botanical garden, and the Austin City Limits Music Festival.

Lady Bird Lake

Named after the late Lady Bird Johson for her efforts to green Austin, this park is in downtown Austin and features a 10-mile trail. Aside from hiking or biking, this is a great spot to kayak or stand-up paddle board.

Mount Bonnell

Located in Covert Park, it is the highest point in Austin, offering terrific city views! To get to the top, there are over 100 stairs you have to climb, but it’s worth it, if you’re able.
