THE WATER IS

Whether you are looking for an active on-the-water lifestyle the whole family can enjoy, are a competitive sailor, a recreational boater, or simply looking for a welcoming community that also happens to enjoy spectacular waterfront views...you’ve found it at Long Beach Yacht Club.

LBYC was formed to promote yachting and competitive sportsmanship on a world-class level – and for nearly 100 years our reputation has matched our mission. Sailing members take part year-round in regattas, invitationals, championships, trips and other events, and of course, access to our fleet of Catalina 37 One-Design racing yachts.  Don’t know how to sail? That’s okay, we offer learn-to-sail programs on our fleet of Soling sailboats that are also available for member use.

We take an all-inclusive and laid-back approach to what it means to be a yacht club, featuring a range of power and recreational boating programs, stand-up paddleboarding and kayaking, fishing trips and travel...nearly any and every recreational activity you can enjoy on, in and around the water.

Our heated pool is a relaxed and relaxing Naples Island gathering spot for those who love to be in the water...as well as close to the water. From lap swimming to soaking up the sun, recreational activities to group lessons and more, this is an active family-friendly amenity that can be enjoyed year-round. We offer members and guests light dining menus, and locker rooms that feature showers and saunas.

Our clubhouse on Alamitos Bay is a casually refined destination that features some of the best views in Long Beach...and Southern California. Led by chefs with decades of experience, LBYC features a variety of menus — and a variety of venues, including our 225-foot private dock. In fact, every table is guaranteed to offer a spectacular visual presentation matched only by our culinary, cocktail and wine selections. From casual family meals to more formal dinners and breathtaking sunset celebrations, this is a private gathering spot that also feels remarkably like a home, away from home.

We regard the younger set as an important part of our Club as well, with both sailing and non-sailing programs for children from ages 4 to 17 years old. LBYC’s well-regarded Junior programs offer world-class sailing lessons, safety instruction and competitions in Sabots, CFJs and Lasers, and a range of fun year-round programs and summer camps led by experienced instructors and coaches.

LBYC is a lively, fun and inviting gathering place, defined by people who will always offer a warm smile, friendly conversation...and an invitation to the next adventure.

As an equity club, members are owners here, with a say in every decision about our operations and plans for the future. Club reciprocity also means our membership community extends to yacht clubs from just down the coast to around the world, fostering connections and friendships that extend across the years and across the oceans.

Two Southern California yacht clubs recognized on Top 50 list

beach california yacht club

Platinum Clubs organization names Newport Harbor YC and San Diego YC to worldwide compilation.

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA—Newport Harbor and San Diego yacht clubs both earned a spot on the Top 50 Platinum Yacht Clubs for 2020-2021, it was recently announced. The worldwide list is compiled by Platinum Clubs of the World.

Placing on the list means a yacht club is presented with the title of “Five Star Clubs of Excellence.”

San Diego YC was founded in 1886 and has recently hosted sailing events such as Women’s Winter Invitational, Yachting Cup, the CA500, the SoCal 300, Dutch Shoe Marathon, International Masters Regatta and Lipton Cup.

Newport Harbor YC first opened its doors in 1916 and hosts the Newport to Cabo Race every two years, among other regattas.

Other yacht clubs making the Top 50 list included: Annapolis Yacht Club, Beach Point Club, Chicago Yacht Club, Cruising Yacht Club of Australia, Nassau Yacht Club (Bahamas), Raffles Marina (Singapore), Real Club Nautico de Vigo (Spain), Royal Bombay Yacht Club (India), Royal Cork Yacht Club (Ireland), The Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club (Australia), Société des Régates du Havre (France), Yacht Club de Monaco and Yacht Club Santo Amaro (Brazil).

Two Southern California yacht clubs earned an Honorable Mention, scoring within three points of the Top 50 list: Balboa Yacht Club (Newport Beach) and California Yacht Club (Marina del Rey).

Fifty yacht clubs are selected based upon points awarded by a selected panel. A yacht club must score at least 8 points to qualify for the Top 50 list. Scoring is awarded as follows: 100 points for a top three club, 80 points for a ranking between four and 10, 60 points for 11 to 25 ranking, 40 points for 26-60 ranking, 20 points for 51-75 ranking and 10 points for 76-100 ranking.

Voting was conducted by 116 panelists from all around the world; panelists hailed from the United States, Australia, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Japan, The Netherlands, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and United Arab Emirates. Panelists vote every two years (odd years). Finalists are selected based upon submitted recommendations from panelists and applications from yacht clubs from around the world. A final ballot is eventually created and sent out to panelists. There is a 30-day voting period, with the election conducted electronically (via a third party).

“Points are awarded by the position and ranking that the panelist assigns to each club. The total number of points is calculated and divided by the total number of panelists who have visited a club to determine the final points score,” a Platinum Clubs of the World statement about the voting process said.

The Club Leaders Forum Advisory Board of the Platinum Clubs of the World compiled the Top 50 list. Platinum Clubs of America have been recognizing top yacht clubs for more than 20 years.

It has a rich history and a vibrant community of members who share a passion for yachting and boating. As such, it is natural for those interested in joining the club to wonder how much membership at Newport Harbor Yacht Club costs. Cape Coral's premier historic gemstone, The Yacht Club, will be gone by the end of May

beach california yacht club

Cape Coral began demolition of the main Yacht Club buildings this week, starting the work to bring down one of the city's oldest structures.

"Demolition is anticipated to take about a month and a half – it should be done around the end of May," said Cape Coral Spokesperson Kaitlyn Mullen.

The city will demolish the main buildings and attached amenities of the Yacht Club, including the ballroom building, the Tony Rotino Center, tennis courts, pool, and harbormaster.

Here's what we know:

Yacht Club demolition takes down one building already

On Wednesday, the city announced the long-anticipated demolition of the main Yacht Club buildings.

By the end of the day, the Tony Rotino Senior Center, which, before Hurricane Ian, had offered programs and activities for individuals 50 and older since 1977 , had been pulled down.

Johnson-Laux Construction, a full-service construction management firm that operates out of Winter Garden, has been contracted to demolish and deconstruct the Yacht Club for $987,716.04.

The firm is also tasked with  preserving a portion  of the old ballroom building, which includes interior ceiling beams, stonework, a fountain, and interior doors.

Construction will  not affect the beach area.

Cape Coral Yacht Club designs chosen New Cape Coral Yacht Club designs: Most on council like a coastal, Key West vibe

Recent Cape Coral news Cape Coral to vote on moratoriums as a former mayor warns of possible legal ramification

The iconic Cape Coral Yacht Club has a storied history

Cape Coral's  Yacht Club Community Park , which includes a yacht basin, tennis courts, a swimming pool, a ballroom, and a beach, has served as a popular attraction and staple for the city since the 1960s, built and open just a few years after the city's inception in 1957 by brothers Jack and Leonard Rosen .

In 2018, voters approved a $60 million expansion of the city's parks and amenities through the Parks and Recreation General Obligation (GO) Bond. Part of that was intended for the Yacht Club.

The Cape Coral City Council originally planned to close and begin work on renovations for the park in 2021 .

But then Hurricane Ian struck the city on Sep. 28, 2022, delaying the project with the council eventually opting to revamp the whole area, with the city pointing toward the high cost of repairs and being over FEMA's 50% rule as justification for moving forward.

Longtime residents and former city officials such as former councilmember Gloria Tate and former mayor Joe Mazurkiewicz opposed the plans.

They tried to save the Yacht Club's main building, the ballroom — one of the city's oldest structures — however, they could not sway the council to change its mind on the new plans.

The  current plans  include a new two-story community center to replace the ballroom, removing the tennis courts, rearranging the area to accommodate a four-story parking garage, a new restaurant, and a new resort-style pool.

Previous discussions estimate the cost of the project to be as much as $100 million .

When will the new Cape Coral Yacht Club be finished?

The city is still in the design phase and has no estimated timeframe for completion.

What's next for the new Yacht Club?

A public meeting to review and showcase current Yacht Club designs will be held on May 7.

"The design team will present the design plans to any members of the public who attend," Mullen said. "People can ask questions one-on-one of the design team and staff after the presentation."
