LIONHEART Yacht – Enchanting $150M Superyacht

LIONHEART yacht is a 90-metre (295 ft) motor yacht built by Benetti in Italy. She was delivered in July of 2016 to the current owner who recently sold his brands Topshop and Selfridges, gaining him a net worth of US $2.4 billion.

LIONHEART features a sleek and modern design with space for up to 12 guests and 30 crew members. Her home berth lies in Monaco, which is where Green and his family spend most of their time.

The LIONHEART yacht features a lot of intricate details in its design that make her stand out from other comparable vessels on the market.

The interior of this yacht had exceptionally high-quality materials used in her construction, which gives her an elegant look and feel throughout all the different spaces on board. 

The design house Green & Mingarelli is responsible for the luxurious interior design of LIONHEART.

The LIONHEART yacht can welcome 12 guests in her six cabins as well as a crew of 30 members of staff. 

The interior of the yacht features a beach club, a beauty salon as well as expansive health and wellness facilities that include a spa, a hairdressing salon, a gym with a personal trainer, and a massage room with a masseur available at all hours.

The different floors of the yacht are connected by an elevator, and of course, the yacht has several pools, two of which are located on the upper decks. 

A grand staircase is situated in the center of the yacht, which gives the vessel the likeness of a luxury hotel. The interior is furnished with exclusive furniture with dark wood and cream upholstery.

The yacht features several sizable chandeliers and other extravagant lighting fixtures. Everything about the interior of LIONHEART is lavish and luxurious, flaunting the US $150 Million price tag that this incredible vessel bears.

Specifications

The LIONHEART yacht is 90 meters (296 ft) long with a beam of 14.4 meters (47.3 ft) and a draft of 7.5 meters (24.9 ft). She was built by Benetti Yachts in Livorno, Italy, and launched in 2016.

At the time, LIONHEART was Benetti’s flagship and the largest yacht they had ever produced, overtaking NABILA (later TRUMP PRINCESS owned by Donald Trump).

Her gross tonnage lies at 2,990 GT, reaching cruising speeds of 15 knots and maximum speeds of 16 knots.

She is definitely not the fastest yacht in her size category, but her caterpillar engines are reliable and robust.

LIONHEART has an immense aluminum superstructure, and her hull was constructed from premium steel. Her traditional teak decks nicely contrast her white exterior.

The LIONHEART yacht is values at US $150 million and has annual running costs of US $10-$15 Million. She is not currently available for charter or for sale, although Green’s other yachts are.

The exterior of the LIONHEART yacht was designed by Stefano Natucci, who was also responsible for LIONESS V, Green’s previous yacht by Benetti.

Natucci has designed a total of 45 yachts, the LIONHEART yacht being the largest of his past projects.

The yacht is fitted with a sophisticated stabilizer system that ensures a comfortable experience for guests when at anchor or underway. She has a total of four decks featuring generous outdoor spaces. 

The front of the bow has room for a small helipad where aircraft can land to pick up or drop off guests.

The top deck has an outdoor bar and jacuzzi, and behind the flybridge, there is a large pool.

All decks have luxurious outdoor seating with cream upholstery which is also the color of the crew uniforms aboard the LIONHEART yacht. 

At the aft, the yacht has a sizable beach club and extendable swimming platform where water toys can be launched.

She also has several smaller, shaded decks with ample space for dining or parties. On both her port and starboard sides, Lionheart has small balcony decks which are attached to two of the suites.

Toys and equipment

The LIONHEART yacht carries several tenders, although her most memorable is a VanDutch 55 named Lioncub.

This tender has a black and white photograph of a lion painted on its side, making it stand out from traditional tenders and attracting yacht spotters.

LIONHEART also has a Pascoe Limousine, a Pascoe Beachlande, and a Pascoe Outboard Shuttle giving her passengers a wide selection of transportation options for shore leave or excursions.

Although exact details aren’t known, the yacht carries a large number of water toys, including jet skis and water bobs.

With a large swimming platform at the back of the vessel and an attached beach club with a lounge area, a luxury that might be desired is available to her guests.

Additional information

Construction for LIONHEART began in 2012 after the owner Green commissioned his third yacht from Benetti .

The two previous vessels were also named LIONHEART but have since been renamed LUMIERE and LIONESS V. 

LUMIERE was built in 1999 and has a length of 49.9 meters (164 ft). Green sold her when he obtained LIONHEART V in 2006, and she is now available for charter.

LIONESS V has a length of 63.5 meters (208 ft) and was replaced by LIONHEART in 2016, 10 years after her launch. 

Interestingly all three vessels can welcome the same number of guests, and only their amenities and length changed over the years.

LIONESS V is still owned by the Green family, more specifically Tina Green. This yacht is available for charter.

Lionheart, the new Super J

There's been a surge in interest in new J Class yachts following a rule chnage to allow hulls to be built in aluminium

This is the brand new J Class yacht Lionheart after successfully being turned over at Freddie Bloemsma’s yard in Holland. The aluminium hulled J has been developed by designer Andre Hoek who has undertaken extensive research into the performance of 20 J Class designs some of which have been built and others that have never seen the light of day.

Lionheart, at 144ft (44m) loa and with an astonishing 56ft (17m) of overhang, will be the biggest J in existence when completed by Claasen Jachtbouw in Zaandam. Her lines originate from one of the series of designs drawn for the Starling Burgess/Olin Stephens1936 Ranger project so it will be particularly interesting to see how she shapes up against John Williams’s current J Class Ranger.

Hoek’s design team has developed a highly sophisticated velocity prediction programme for J Class design using test data taken from a 19ft 6in (20m) long test tank model of a J. They have also used computational fluid dynamic software to further analyse hull shape for the five best performing yachts.

Hoek is currently working on four new Js. Besides Lionheart the next yacht is likely to be a replica of Enterprise, the first J ever built and one of the smallest although Hoek believes she will be very effective on handicap. The third project is Svea, originally designed by Thor Holm and now well advanced in design for a Dutch/Swedish syndicate. Finally, Hoek is working on a replica of a Franck Paine designed J that was never built. She’ll be along the lines of Lionheart.

With these four yachts in the pipeline, Jim Clark’s Endeavour 11 on course for an autumn launch from Royal Huisman and other designs on the boil at Dykstra and Partners (see current, February issue of Yachting World), the J Class movement, boosted by the rule change to allow the use aluminium for hull construction, is about to take a mighty leap forward.

Over the weekend, the prestigious Livorno-based Italian shipyard, Benetti , launched their largest superyacht to date – the exciting new 90-metre LIONHEART , previously known as FB 262. This striking displacement vessel bears both naval architecture as well as exterior design by the yard’s in-house team.

Featuring a steel hull and aluminium superstructure, the 90m (295’) LIONHEART was designed and built to comfortably reach a top speed of 15,5 knots, and a cruising speed of 15 knots. More details about this breath-taking vessel to follow soon.

New build superyacht Lionheart signed by Yachting Partners and Hoek

I call Will Bishop at Yachting Partners International for more details of his latest joint central agency, with Hoek Brokerage, the new build 44m sailing yacht Lionheart  and Will says that she's scheduled to hit the water in May 2010, with delivery in June or July.

Lionheart is the first of a new breed of aluminium J-Class yachts being built to a Hoek design at Holland's Claasen Jachtbouw . When completed she'll be the largest J-Class superyacht in existence, with 17m overhangs on an LOA of 44m. Accommodating eight guests in four cabins, she's asking €14.9 million.

Thomas Vinterberg , the Oscar-winning director of Another Round , is turning to television for his next project, signing on to adapt the fantasy novel The Brothers Lionheart as a limited event series for The Morning Show producers Media Res .

While not as well known outside internationally as Pippi Longstocking , Lindgren’s coming-of-age tale of two brothers, Karl and Jonathan Lion, in the mythical land of Nangiyala, and their battle against the evil tyrant Tengil, is a family classic in Scandinavia and has been translated into some 50 languages worldwide.

“ The Brothers Lionheart is possibly the most important cultural legacy from my parents’ generation,” said Vinterberg. “It stands as a milestone from my childhood, shining vividly in my memory. The project is a great responsibility and, at the same time, a significant dream come true to create the series based on this immense and moving tale – and in that way, help pass it on to my children’s generation.”

Media Res, founded by Michael Ellenberg, are producers of AppleTV+’s The Morning Show and Pachinko , and the Amazon series I’m a Virgo .

Vinterberg, whose 2020 Danish feature Another Round starring Mads Mikkelsen, won the best international feature Oscar —and is getting an English-language remake with Chris Rock attached to direct —is currently in post-production on the Danish series Families Like Ours . Development on The Brothers Lionheart is set to begin later this month. Vinterberg’s feature film credits include the Oscar-nominated The Hunt (2012), also starring Mikkelsen, the 2015 British period drama Far from the Madding Crowd with Maestro star Carey Mulligan and 1998’s Bafta-nominated Dogme drama The Celebration .

Vinterberg is represented by Gersh in the US and Independent in the U.K.

The Brothers Lionheart , from the renowned Swedish author of children’s classics such as Pippi Longstocking, Emil of Lönneberga and Karlsson-on-the-Roof , is a coming of age tale, nestled inside an epic fantasy adventure story.

The novel tells the story of two brothers – Karl and Jonathan Lion – as they leave the natural world and embark on the adventure of a lifetime in the mythical land of Nangiyala. Lindgren’s saga explores classic themes of love and loss, fear and courage, tyranny and rebellion, as the brothers must mature quickly to evade, uncover and defeat the dark, mystical forces threatening to terrorize the good people of the Wild Rose Valley.

The Brothers Lionheart was originally published in 1973. Since then, it has shaped millions of kids in Scandinavia, Europe and beyond, including Vinterberg, who grew up with the book.

The Brothers Lionheart, hailed as being in the fantasy tradition of magic, myth, poetry and adventure from the works of C. S. Lewis, J.R. Tolkien and Hayao Miyazaki, has been translated into 50 languages. Its single notable screen adaptation was the 1977 Swedish film written by Lindgren herself who adapted her book. The novel also has been turned into a musical.

Since his Cannes prize-winning film The Celebration , Vinterberg has directed both Danish and English language films including Oscar winner Another Round , Cannes prize winner The Hun t, and Searchlight’s Far From The Madding Crowd starring Carey Mulligan. He is currently in post-production on limited series Families Like Ours for Zentropa and Studio Canal. Vinterberg is repped by Gersh in the US and Independent in the UK.”
