The super-stylish 187.93ft  /57.28m  Custom motor yacht  ‘Diamond A’  was built in 1998 by Abeking & Rasmussen and last refitted in 2010. Previously named Ultima III, her luxurious interior is designed by Jack C. Anderson and her exterior styling is by Donald Starkey. She is incredibly attractive and is a stand-out among charter yachts.

Diamond A’s comfortable yet stylish interior layout sleeps up to 12 guests in 9 rooms, including a master suite, 1 VIP stateroom, 4 double cabins and 2 twin cabins. She is also capable of carrying up to 15 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience. Timeless styling, beautiful furnishings and sumptuous seating feature throughout to create an elegant and comfortable atmosphere.

She also comes complete with a modern stabilization system to reduce roll motion even during rough seas, and the yacht also has ‘at anchor stabilizers’ to keep things smooth even at anchor/zero speed.

A deck Jacuzzi is perfect for relaxing with friends and family, while taking in the view, particularly after a long day of exploration.

The yacht has a great Wi-Fi connection throughout, so you’ll be able to check emails or share your experience on social media. A gym onboard, fully equipped with the latest exercise equipment, means you’ll never miss a work out.

Donald Starkey has been designing some of the world’s finest yachts since 1989 and has won to date, no less than 26 Design Awards for his work. Unique and timeless elegance are synonymous with the design from this renowned studio.

PRESENTING DIAMOND A

A 1998 build, Abeking & Rasmussen yacht DIAMOND A had long been exclusively used as a private superyacht.  Previously named ULTIMA III and owned by Ron Perelman, the head of Revlon.  Her new owner made this grand superyacht available for hire.  After a major refit, the 57-meter vessel looks as great as the day she launched.  She positions in the Caribbean in winter and available for Monaco yacht charter inquiries in the summer.   Yacht DIAMOND A is one of the largest yachts in the world available for private charter.

This is a lofty description, but accurate on all accounts.

Board the yacht from the aft, and guests step onto a spacious aft deck in classic nautical themes. For relaxation, there are large lounge pads and two L-shaped seating areas. In addition, sofas, coffee tables, and Director’s chairs exist.  The color scheme of navy blue and white is clean and vibrant. There are also patterned cushions that pull all of the design elements together.

Abeking & Rasmussen – a name synonymous with ultra-luxury yacht charter vessels.

The feeling of openness and the light, yet warm and cozy themes of the aft deck carry throughout the vessel.  Stepping into the main salon, there is a sense of lightness.  Large sofas and armchairs, contemporary artwork, and large windows bathe the room in natural light. These windows offer a spectacular view of the ocean.   Forward of the lounge area of the salon is the open-plan dining area, with lots of glossy wood finishes, trim, and thickly upholstered chairs.  As a whole, the shapes, textures, colors, and materials give the salon an undeniably elegant appeal – perfect for relaxing or entertaining during a charter.

THE MASTER SUITE

Forward of the main salon is the master suite. This is a massive full-beam stateroom, with a spacious office and lounge areas. As expected, the feel is light and clean with the familiar white and navy blue color scheme, patterned carpeting, and soft interior lighting.  The ensuite bathroom features white marble floors, warm woods, and a large tub and shower area. Note – the lounge and office areas of the master suite can be converted into double and twin suites – perfect for a nanny and child, or even security personnel.

ADDITIONAL ACCOMMODATIONS

Additional accommodations consist of six double suites and two twins. The four luxurious double suites are located on the lower deck, while a twin cabin and VIP suite are available on the upper deck.   The yacht can accommodate up to 12 charter guests.

A sky lounge on the upper deck is a stylish, informal area for guests to laze and relax. The overall design is exotic and eclectic – and a bit masculine, featuring rugged contemporary shapes and materials, a large sofa, textured armchairs, and a curvy chaise.

UPPER EXTERIOR

Moving up and out to the upper aft deck, guests can enjoy alfresco meals at a large round table, surrounded by comfy armchairs and several lounge areas. Forward is the Portuguese bridge offering a private conversation area, with sofas, coffee tables, and panoramic views.

I booked the cruise for a group of 6 (active 50-60 year old couples) and we absolutely loved it! The boat had a great set-up and was immaculate. This size boat got us closer to the hot springs for our dip in the sea, which was fun. The views were gorgeous! The meal was fresh and delicious! Elaina and the captain were very friendly and customer service oriented! The whole experience exceeded our expectations!

From the moment we set sail, George and Alina ensured that our boat trip was nothing short of spectacular. Their hospitality was heartwarming, and they were impeccably attentive throughout our journey, ensuring that every detail was perfect. The food served was a delightful spread of fresh fish, mouthwatering aubergine salad, tangy feta salad, and soft pita bread. Paired with excellent wine and set against the backdrop of awe-inspiring views, every meal felt like a gourmet experience. George and Alina seamlessly took us to multiple swimming spots, each with its unique charm and breathtaking volcanic views. Their knowledge of the area and their sincere desire to make our trip memorable was evident in every gesture. But the crowning glory of our trip was the magical moment when, against the canvas of the famed Santorini sunset, I experienced the most romantic engagement. Words fail to capture the enchantment of that moment. George and Alina's touch of warmth and kindness made it even more special, turning our engagement into a fairy-tale memory. To say that this boat trip was amazing would be an understatement. Thanks to George and Alina, it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I cannot imagine a more perfect setting for our engagement. This option might leave a passenger disembarking partially deaf as the merciless Russian pop music blasts onboard. A free spirit, however, will find partying on such a vessel to be an unforgettable and authentic experience that’s almost a metaphor for life in modern Russia: too loud, and sometimes too welcoming. Tickets start at $13 (800 rubles) per person.

Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such  option  offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).

If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.

Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.

How to buy tickets?

Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.

“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!”  wrote  (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.

Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.

Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.

Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.

Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as  this   offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.

This  website  (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other  website  sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.

Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.

“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.

There are two main boarding piers in the city center:  Hotel Ukraine  and  Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.

Where to sit onboard?

Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.

The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.

Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.

There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.

The 46.94m/154' motor yacht 'Star Diamond' (ex. Roxana) was built by Admiral Marine Works at their Port Angeles shipyard. Her interior is styled by design house Donald Starkey and she was completed in 1998. This luxury vessel's exterior design is the work of Donald Starkey and she was last refitted in 2022.

Star Diamond is built with a GRP hull and GRP superstructure, with teak decks. Powered by twin diesel Caterpillar (3512 DITA) 1,650hp engines running at 1600rpm, she comfortably cruises at 17 knots, reaches a maximum speed of 18 knots with a range of up to 3,600 nautical miles from her 47,763 litre fuel tanks at 12 knots. An advanced stabilisation system on board promises exceptional comfort levels at anchor or on any voyage. Her water tanks store around 1,850 Gallons of fresh water. She was built to RINA (Registro Italiano Navale) classification society rules.
