Welcome aboard for a two to three hour sail on the Barnegat Bay along the Jersey Shore with Seaside Sailing. You can choose from several sailboat charter options including two to three hour cruises in the afternoon and evening for a sunset sail. Captain Mike, a US Coast Guard Licensed Master Captain, will be at the helm to direct you along the protected inland waters. With over 50 years of experience sailing and 30 years chartering sailboat cruises, Captain Mike will show you the beautiful sights as well as the ins and outs of sailing. You can even take a turn at the wheel if you like.

Two to Three Hour Cruises

Welcome aboard our sailboat for a cruise along on the Barnegat Bay and on Toms River in Ocean County New Jersey. Relax and enjoy sailing on calm inland waters.

Dine Aboard at No Additional Charge

Feel free to bring your own snacks, sandwiches, pre-cooked meals or catered dinner aboard. You may also bring your own soft drinks, wine, beer or cocktails aboard also at no additional charge. No glass drinkware permitted.

Up to Six Guests

Seaside Sailing can accommodate up to six passengers aboard their 2006 Hunter 44' Sailing Yacht. Private sail charters are available for those who desire an exclusive cruise.

Sailing On Barnegat Bay

Barnegat Bay, especially the stretch South of the Rt 37 Bridge, offers some of the best sailing on the East Coast of the US. It is scenic, protected, breezy, and clean.

Barnegat has an abundance of wildlife, beaches, rivers, lagoons, and coves, as well as nature preservation areas, and no high-rise development (except, of course, for "Old Barney").

While the full length of the bay extends to around 30 miles, the maximum width of the bay is only around 2 miles. This is enough to give a feeling of space, but not enough to allow large waves to build up.

Barnegat Bay has been described in sailing magazines as one of the most reliable wind areas on the East Coast. There is a good reason for that. The Island Beach peninsula is very narrow, so the sea breeze blows right across.

Highly recommend! Italo and Mariann are amazing people and hosts. I was originally planning to do an unlimited mimosa and Buffett boat that was offered by another company, but after reading more reviews and realizing the price was essentially the same, I swapped to this boat ride idea instead. And let me just say - it is worth every penny! Nothing beats having your own private boat and Italo and Mariann are very accommodating. I took my friends on this for my birthday and everyone had a blasted. If you’re looking for an experience in NYC, this is for you.

I celebrated the birthday party for my wife with a group of her close friends and Italo and Mariann. It became a huge success and a huge surprise to her. This yacht brought us the most joyful birthday experience ever. Even if it was a cold winter night, we still love staying outside to enjoy the skyline of nyc. We appreciate Italo and Mariann a lot for the detailed and warm hospitality. They are so friendly and responsive. We had a super customized charter. Everything was way beyond my expectations.

Our trip with Glenn was amazing and everything we hoped for to celebrate my best friend's bachelorette party! Leading up to our trip, Glenn was super responsive, helpful, and friendly. We had some trouble finding the dock and he was patient, dropped us his location, and ensured we found where we needed to go. When we arrived, Glenn was ready to greet us and the boat was spotless. We got out on the water quickly and throughout our trip Glenn and his helper Sam were nothing but gracious. I would highly recommend this boat/charter for your next Hamptons outing!

Battleship New Jersey moved from Camden to Paulsboro. It was a spectator sport.

Thursday was a big day for self-described naval history buffs and lovers of Big Ships.

At exactly 12:11 p.m., as the Delaware River reached a high tide exceeding 6 feet, four tugboats began to heave and ho the Battleship New Jersey — the famed World War II-era battleship-turned-museum.

“Dead tow, dead tow,” rang radio dispatch ushering in the feat of strength and calculus underway.

Four tractor tugs pulled the ship from silt deposits in its Camden dock, steered it in a U-turn, and towed “Big J” under the Walt Whitman Bridge to the Paulsboro Marine Terminal, where it will remain for about a week as it’s prepared for dry docking.

The clear blue day marked the first time the battleship has been moved since 2001 , and in a nod to its history, the 45,000-ton vessel is to be dry-docked in the same berth where it was built beginning in 1940 and launched on Dec. 7, 1942, one year after the Pearl Harbor attack thrust the United States into World War II.

“How cool is this?” asked Jim Crumlish, 71, in awe as the ship — the length of more than two football fields — was slowly turned and appeared to stretch the width of the river.

“[The Battleship New Jersey] nearly ties the entire river up.”

Crumlish was one of a handful of friends who took a small charter boat out on the windy day to get an up-close look of the move. He grew up sailing and his father was a naval officer who worked on New Jersey’s sister ship. His upbringing and love of history made him a defacto guide for his friends. He regaled them with stories of how the battleship was built in Philadelphia and mused how incredible it was volunteers and history lovers had kept interest in the ship alive.

“Somebody in today’s generation can appreciate the architecture, the workmanship, and the complexity of something that is antique,” he said.

A piece of history slated for a facelift

The USS New Jersey entered service in 1942 and saw action during many conflicts, including World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. It served in the Navy for about 50 years before being decommissioned in February 1991. It was turned into a floating museum in 2011.

After the Paulsboro stop, the decorated battleship will head across the river to the Philadelphia Navy Yard, where it will undergo routine maintenance, repairs, and repainting for the first time in 32 years. The whole project is set to cost about $10 million with restoration work set to take at least two months.

The goal is to get the battleship back to Camden for Memorial Day and summer tourism traffic.

Tim Savage, 55, captain of Penn Yacht Charters, roped Crumlish and others into joining him to watch the move.

“It’s something else to do on the water,” he said jokingly, despite being very serious about finding the perfect vantage point so his wife could capture a photo of the tugboats flanking the ship.

Like Crumlish, Savage said he is passionate about sailing. He sold his home and moved onto a boat five years ago. No one had ever been so eager to get rid of their home, joked his wife.

Crumlish and his friends weren’t the only ones eager to watch the U.S. Coast Guard, Delaware State Police, Pennsylvania State Police and other agencies guide the battleship to its temporary berth.

Dozens of people gathered on the observation deck of Spirit of Philadelphia, a charter yacht, to take selfies and videos of the move. Attendees paid more than $100 for a two-hour cruise focused on the battleship.

The Camden waterfront invited a slew of military veterans with connections to the ship to watch. Freedom Pier in Gloucester City and Red Bank Battlefield Park were also open to the public for viewing, with hundreds of veterans and families with children braving the frigid air at the latter to snap a photo.

The Battleship New Jersey’s YouTube page also offered an alternative live stream for those at home.

The Walt Whitman Bridge closed to traffic around 1:30 p.m., as the battleship passed underneath. The ship’s move to Paulsboro was slated to take most of the day, wrapping at around 4 p.m.

Tyler Ward, 72, fondly known as the “marine boss” of Pier 3, but officially the owners’ representative, said taking a break from work to see the move on a charter was a no-brainer.

“There’s this epic event on the waterfront [and] I know someone with a boat,” she said, waving at another charter captain angling for a better view.

Ward and others said they plan on coming out again when the ship is moved to the Navy Yard.

Battleship USS New Jersey Sets Sail Down the Delaware River for Drydocking

CAMDEN, N.J. — The USS New Jersey embarked on a significant journey down the Delaware River to the Philadelphia Navy Yard for extensive maintenance. The operation commenced on Thursday, with the famed battleship being escorted by tugboats to its first stop at the Paulsboro Marine Terminal for balancing ahead of its scheduled dry docking.

Scheduled to reach the navy yard in six days, the maintenance is anticipated to span approximately two months. The ship is set to undergo three critical repair projects: repainting the hull, repairing the anti-corrosion system, and inspecting the through-hull openings.

Constructed in the 1940s at the then-Philadelphia Naval Shipyard, the USS New Jersey served the U.S. Navy for around 50 years before retiring in February 1991. Since 2001, it has been a revered floating museum. Its launch on December 7, 1942, marked the first anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack, solidifying its place in American history.

The USS New Jersey holds the title of the most decorated battleship in U.S. Navy history, with distinguished service records from World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Cold War, and Middle East conflicts. Its combat history includes steaming more miles, engaging in more battles, and firing more shells than any other battleship.

The maintenance voyage drew attention and appreciation, with veterans who served on the USS New Jersey in attendance. Among them was Capt. Walter M. Urban Jr., who served as a public affairs officer and recounted his experiences aboard with nostalgia.
