BIG EAGLE Yacht for Charter

Step aboard the 172-foot (52.4m) BIG EAGLE and prepare for an exceptional charter experience. Built in 1980 by the Japanese yard Mie Zosen, she is a steel-hulled custom motor yacht designed for luxurious cruising, with a range of 5,000 nautical miles. Twelve guests are accommodated in six staterooms and receive excellent service from a professional crew of 10.

World-class Style Inside & Out

The sleeping arrangements on board see guests in a main-deck master stateroom, two doubles and three twin cabins. The master is king-sized across the full beam of the yacht, with a dedicated study and lounging area. It also has a marble en-suite with a spa bath and shower. The VIP is below deck, also full-beam with a king-sized bed. All remaining staterooms are also en-suite with full entertainment systems.

Guests can relax in a choice of social areas. These include the main salon, with new sofas, a games table and a 60-inch plasma TV. There is also a sports bar forward of the salon and a bridge deck/party deck that can seat up to 50 guests for special occasions. When the yacht is cruising in colder climes, such as Alaska, this space can be enclosed and heated. It makes for a unique, cozy area complete with pashminas and slipper-socks for guests to enjoy the incredible scenery while staying warm.

The sundeck, for warmer destinations, has a six- to eight-person hot-tub, with sheltered seating and a 40-inch plasma TV.

Exceptional Charter Lifestyle

As well as being the ideal yacht for parties and entertaining, BIG EAGLE has a wide choice of activities to keep guests amused. These include kayaks, water skis, WaveRunners, scuba diving and snorkeling gear, free weights, paddleboards and bicycles. She has all that charterers need to enjoy the waters of the Caribbean, Bahamas and New England, where she is often to be seen.

Christiana grew up in San Diego, California. Her childhood revolved around the water; sailing, diving, surfing, windsurfing, and water skiing. Almost every summer was spent on her family’s sailboat. After graduating from UCLA with a degree in Economics she decided to travel and have some fun working on sailboats. Twenty years later the yachting industry is her career. Christiana served as the 1st Mate on board for four years before she obtained her captain’s license. She then served as the 1st Mate and relief captain for Atlantic Crossings and other passages. In November 2006 she became the Captain on board Big Eagle. She is also a dive master and enjoys guiding the guests on dives

BIG EAGLE’s Beer-fueled History

BIG EAGLE was built in 1980 in Japan. For years, she was owned by the late-Bernie Little, a Budweiser beer distributor based in Florida. He further owned the successful Miss Budweiser hydroplane racing team. Yachts were a real passion, with Little owning, and selling, a few yachts christened  Big Eagle,  an homage to the trademarked symbol of Budweiser’s parent company, Anheuser-Busch.

BIG EAGLE  was a popular charter yacht under his ownership, a practice that continues today under her current American owners. Her 172 feet allows for a number of intimate and expansive relaxation spaces. Particularly noteworthy is the creation of a sports bar forward of the saloon. That was done during her last major refit in 2008.

The cinematic-like capture embedded below isn’t the first time that BIG EAGLE  has been a film star of sorts. Movie buffs among you may recall that she appeared in the 1996 movie  Striptease,  starring Demi Moore. The megayacht’s nameboard was changed to  Big Sugar  in the film. The Captain is a Woman

There are a select few women yacht captains of luxury megayachts in our industry; most have been influenced by their family and love of the sea.

Captain Christina Virgilio is a rare success story, having now 20 years onboard BIG EAGLE.  Christiana grew up in San Diego, California. Big Eagle is a 1980 build that most recently was refitted in 2017. The yacht accommodates 12 guests in six staterooms. Onboard amenities include a hot tub, a sports bar and alfresco dining.

Christiana Virgilio

Christiana grew up in San Diego, California.  Her childhood revolved around the water; sailing, diving, surfing, windsurfing, and waterskiing.  Almost every summer was spent on her family's sailboat.  After graduating from UCLA with a degree in Economics she decided to travel and have some fun working on sailboats.  Twenty-three years later the yachting industry is her career.  Christiana has captained Big Eagle through the Baltic, the British Isles, Panama, the Eastern and Western U.S. coastline, the Bahamas, the Caribbean and the Mediterranean from the very mouth of Gibraltar to Turkey's most Eastern shore. She is a dive master and enjoys guiding the guests on dives.

Neli Teodorescu

Neli was born and raised in Greater Romania. He is a graduate of the Romanian Naval Academy in Electro Mechanical Engineering.

He has served as an Engineer Officer for over thirty years and worked as a Chief Engineer for twenty years. He worked on Merchant Marine ships, moving onto cruise ships, and then on to the yachting Industry.

He holds an unlimited license which qualifies him to serve as Chief Engineer on any ship in the world. There is not much that Neli is not capable of fixing. He is invaluable here to us on the Big Eagle.

Zac Bacon Australian

Zac has worked in some of Australia's most respected fine dining restaurants with over 10 years of cooking experience. In addition he has spent the last 4 years based in Singapore, and so has a great understanding of Asian cuisine as well. He has always had a strong interest and a love of good food and has been fortunate enough to have family and colleagues that have an excellent food philosophy.

When he is not on Big Eagle, Zac likes to sail his own yacht which is currently based in Thailand. He looks forward to preparing some amazing meals during your time on Big Eagle and welcomes you to chat with him anytime about your preferences.

Joshua Woischuk

Josh grew up two hours east of Melbourne. He previously studied at William Angliss institute and received a diploma of Resort management and water recreation. He started working for a water sports company and progressed quickly learning new skills and showing initiative.

Josh then obtained his yacht master qualification and also became a dive master in 2015. He then moved to the Whitsunday islands and worked on yachts there before joining us on Big Eagle in 2017, he now returns to us as first officer and we are very happy to have him back!

South African

Kyle was introduced to the world of sailing at the age of 14; he immediately fell in love with being on the water and soon after achieved 2 Atlantic crossings before his 18 th birthday! It was an inevitable step that Kyle also soon discovered a passion for the world under the sea and took up scuba diving; he got his diving instructors qualification in the Cayman Islands and never looked back. Kyle hopes to always find himself in, on or by the sea! He looks forward to welcoming you on the Big Eagle

South Africa

Dan is from Cape Town South Africa and has been in the yachting industry for over two years now. He has spent most of his career cruising the Mediterranean water.

He is an outdoors person and enjoys all sports. Water sports is his biggest passion and has played water polo at a provincial level.

It is Dan's first time in America and he is very excited to do the season with us here on the Big Eagle.

We are glad to have Dan on board and he cannot wait to meet you!

Benny Woischuk

Benny joins us from near Melbourne in Australia.

Before joining yachting, Benny has worked in Canada at ski resorts, lived in Japan and was a travel agent dealing with river cruises!

However, the pull of the ocean and with family members already in the industry it was not long before yachting became the obvious choice of career.

Benny loves anything sporty in his spare time, hobbies include soccer, snowboarding and he has an interest in beer brewing!

Benny will be happy to help you have an amazing time on Big Eagle

Renee Engels

Renee was born and raised in Pretoria, South Africa, here she studied public relations and loved running events.

Her Love of travel, meeting new people and trying new cuisines led her to start a career in yachting. Renee joins us from a season in the Mediterranean and is excited to explore some new places. Renee's hobbies are boxing, reading and movies.

Renee is excited to be going into her Third year on Big Eagle. Please do not hesitate to ask her any questions or requests you may have; she looks forward to helping you have the most memorable trip on Big Eagle.

Ali Roberts

Ali comes to us from Perth, Australia. She was brought up with a very active lifestyle and her love for the outdoors and water only comes naturally. She loves all sports particularly aussie rules football and cricket, she is also a diver and enjoys water sports.

Ali's background is in event management and she has worked on large scale sporting events, such as the 2015 cricket world cup.

She joined yachting 2 and a half years ago to experience amazing destinations and different cultures

Hannah Bacon

Adventuring is second nature for Hannah. She loves exploring and learning.

Hannah spent the nine months studying graphic design in her home country of Australia, to pursue her love of art. She has lived in Sweden for eight years and enjoyed the culture and furthering her love for food and wine.

She has a passion for traveling scuba diving, art, architecture, yoga, food and wine culture.

Hannah is excited to start her next adventure on the Big Eagle and will be happy to help you with any inquires.

Cruising the Moskva River: A short guide to boat trips in Russia’s capital

There’s hardly a better way to absorb Moscow’s atmosphere than on a ship sailing up and down the Moskva River. While complicated ticketing, loud music and chilling winds might dampen the anticipated fun, this checklist will help you to enjoy the scenic views and not fall into common tourist traps.

How to find the right boat?

There are plenty of boats and selecting the right one might be challenging. The size of the boat should be your main criteria.

Plenty of small boats cruise the Moskva River, and the most vivid one is this yellow Lay’s-branded boat. Everyone who has ever visited Moscow probably has seen it.

This option might leave a passenger disembarking partially deaf as the merciless Russian pop music blasts onboard. A free spirit, however, will find partying on such a vessel to be an unforgettable and authentic experience that’s almost a metaphor for life in modern Russia: too loud, and sometimes too welcoming. Tickets start at $13 (800 rubles) per person.

Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such  option  offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).

If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.

Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.

How to buy tickets?

Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.

“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!”  wrote  (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.

Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.

Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.

Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.

Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as  this   offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.

This  website  (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other  website  sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.

Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.

“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.

There are two main boarding piers in the city center:  Hotel Ukraine  and  Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.

Where to sit onboard?

Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.

The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.

Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.

There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.

Take a sneak peek at the biggest and most expensive boats at 2024's Palm Beach yacht show

• The Palm Beach International Boat Show kicks off later this week.
• Eight megayachts are expected to be on display for would-be buyers and charter customers.
• These are the show's biggest yachts — and how many millions of dollars they are going for.

The Palm Beach International Boat Show — the yacht world's flashiest event stateside — is returning this year with over 800 boats for both deep-pocked potential owners and window shoppers to peruse.

While it's impossible to know what exactly will be on display until the show begins on Thursday, it's expected that eight megayachts — generally defined as ships over 60 meters long — will be docked at the show and at nearby marinas like the Rybovich Marina in the ritzy Florida town.

Some of these are for sale at eye-popping prices, but others are available to if in case you fancy living like a billionaire for a week or two this summer (and if you have six figures to spare on a vacation).

These are the eight biggest yachts that will be at the Palm Beach International Boat Show and nearby marinas, in size order.

Nero: 90.1 meters

Price: From $497,000 a week (charter) Standout features: Pizza ovens, beauty salon, massage room, resistance pool

Reportedly owned by Irish billionaire Denis O'Brien, Nero is modeled after J.P. Morgan's 1930s ship , and was built in 2007 and updated in 2021.

She now boasts a gym on her sundeck with multiple cardio machines and a beauty salon, and has an on-board beautician for manicure, pedicure, hair, and massage needs. There's also an upgraded movie theater, two new pizza ovens, and both a pool and a jacuzzi.

For those who want to go overboard, she has more than a dozen toys, including a waterslide, Jet Ski, and flyboard.

Victorious: 85 meters

Price: From $876,600 a week in the summer and $950,000 a week in the winter Standout features: Hammam (Turkish bath), wine cellar, wood-burning fireplace, children's playroom

Victorious brings a party vibe to the yacht show. With a beach club on board, a wine cellar, a cigar clubroom , multiple bars, and a lounge with a piano, the vessel is made for entertaining. Plus, there's a playroom and movie theater to entertain the kids.

For tamer charter clients, Victorious has a suite of wellness features such as a gym, massage room, beauty salon and hammam, or Turkish bath — perhaps a custom request of her owner, Turkish businessman Vural Ak.

She also boasts a treasure trove of water toys, including Jet Skis, jetsurfs, inflatable kayaks, and scuba equipment.

Casino Royale: 72 meters

Price: TBD Special Features: Infinity pool, helipad, private jacuzzi

Purchased and refitted by car dealer magnate John Staluppi last year, Casino Royale is the latest of his James Bond-inspired yachts (he's also owned an Octopussy and a Skyfall, among others).

Casino Royale has a helipad that turns into a dancefloor, an infinity pool, and a wellness center with a gym and sauna. The owner's cabin has its own deck, which features a private bar and jacuzzi.

However, the boat's price isn't listed, and while she's not necessarily officially for sale, that might change depending on who's prepared to buy, Mr. Bond.

Talisman C: 70.6 meters

Price: $60 million (or from $567,000 a week to charter) Special features: Massage and beauty room, private library

Likely the largest yacht for sale (not just charter) at the show, the Talisman C is a 2011 six-bedroom boat. The owner's cabin comes with an en suite bathroom, dressing room, private library, and crystal chandeliers.

Amenities include a gym, a beauty room, oversized jacuzzi, and a fully equipped bar. Her crew of 19 includes a trained masseuse, and the toy room comes equipped with a wakeboard, eFoil , and WaveRunners.

Joy: 70 meters

Price: From $650,000 a week Special features: Disco club, basketball court, onboard fitness instructor

Superyacht Joy testifies to the fact that owners want as many on-board experiences as they can get.

There's an expansive suite of fitness features, including a basketball court (don't shoot that hoop too hard!), a personal trainer on staff, boxing equipment, and a handful of machines. For post-workout winddowns, there's a spa with a steam room and onboard masseuse. And for entertainment, there's both an outdoor and indoor cinema, and a disco club.

Triumph: 65.4 meters

Price: From $707,600 a week in the summer and $650,000 a week in the winter Special features: Sauna, helipad, banana boat

This 2021 superyacht is named after Triumph motorcycles — a reported favorite of her rumored owner, British businessman Chris Dawson — and even has one on display as an art piece in the upper deck's lounge. The primary suite is 1,400 square feet and has its own study , and there's a sauna, an indoor-outdoor gym, a helipad, and a massage room spread among her six decks.

She boasts an "armada of water toys," including two kinds of Jet Skis, electric water bikes, and a banana boat.

Seanna: 64.5 meters

Price: $54,000,000 (or from $462,000 a week to charter) Special features: marble foyer, movie room, sundeck pool

The recently refurbished Seanna is available for sale and charter.

Her indoor-outdoor gym is on sea level so that passengers can take a dip after a session with the onboard personal trainer. There's also a sundeck pool, a helipad, a two-room massage facility, and, for the more cerebral guests, a library with an electric fireplace.

There are a number of toys on board, including a popular water trampoline and two WaveRunners.

Come Together: 60 meters

Price: $65,000,000 Special Features: DJ and videographer on board, ice bath, sauna

Next-to-new yacht Come Together is looking for a new owner after doing charters during the 2023 season.

The Beatles' influence is evident beyond the yacht's name, with guitars dotting the sky lounge and a crewmember who doubles as a DJ. There's also an outdoor cinema and bar for entertainment and an ice bath and sauna for the day after the party. The owner's suite has a private study and lounge, and each guest cabin has its own ensuite.

The sale includes a number of toys, like Jet Skis, kayaks, and Seabobs.

Don’t worry, your data (checklists, media, Bird Academy courses, Merlin life list, etc.) will be safe during the migration and will be unaffected when we come back online.

Unavailable: The following websites and services will be down during this period:

• eBird.org , including eBird portals, eBird Alerts, the eBird API, eBird Science, and data downloads
• Macaulay Library
• Birds of the World

Partially affected: Several Cornell Lab projects will remain up but services that require a login will be unavailable:

• Bird Academy login and store will be unavailable. Users will be able to access most course materials if they were logged in to the site before the outage. Snap ID quizzes will not function during the outage.
• NestWatch and Project FeederWatch login and data entry will be unavailable both on the website and the app. Please record your data on paper and enter it after the outage ends.
• eBird Mobile app : The Explore and My eBird functions will not work during the outage. You can use the app to create checklists and then submit them after the outage ends. Your eBird data will be safe.
• Merlin Bird ID app : Sound ID will continue to work, as well as Photo ID, Step-by-Step, and Explore, using your recent locations only. You will not be able to save sightings, refresh your life list, update your location, or log in to your account. These functions will return when the outage ends and your data will be safe.

Unaffected: The following sites will continue to function as normal:

What Can I Do During the Outage?

Go out birding.

• If you already have Merlin Bird ID app installed, you can still use it for some purposes. Though you won’t be able to update your location, save sightings, or refresh your life list, the ID functions will still work with your saved locations, and you can still browse species using Explore Birds
• If you already have the eBird Mobile app installed on your device, you can start eBird Mobile checklists during the downtime and submit them once eBird is back online. Learn how to Enter Sightings with eBird Mobile
