Cruisers Yachts 390 Express Coupe

The Cruisers Yachts 390 Express Coupe melds the entertainment value of an express cruiser with the cover and cruising ability of a coupe, creating a fully satisfying yachting experience.

First, the amidships master stateroom with en suite head offers the capaciousness of the 390 EC’s 12-foot-9-inch beam bedecked in the luxury of designer fixtures, fittings and fabrics. At press time, she remains the only “40-footer” offering such digs.

Next, the steps to access the helm, and the side deck access steps, are pushed forward, providing more width — as well as more length — in the cockpit and increasing the overall amount of topside accommodations space.

The port and starboard L-shaped seating arrangements have aft-facing, flip-up lounge seating and plentiful stowage underneath. Astutely designed, the portside seating can slide to centerline and join the starboard seating to fashion a large, U-shaped seating arrangement with a comfortable dining atmosphere for six adults. I recommend the optional sun-lounge package, which includes the cockpit table with filler cushions and power-actuated backrests. You can create a massive sun bed with chaises that face fore or aft, all at the touch of a button and the push of a lever. No matter how you array the aft seating, you retain wide egress and access to the swim platform. It’s like having three layouts in one.

Now, if there’s one feature that most makes the 390 EC an “express coupe,” it’s the hardtop. This covers the helm, companion lounge and wet bar area, creating an upper salon. The effect is achieved with a fixed-frame hardtop superstructure and a full front frameless window with unrestricted visibility.

But Cruisers Yachts, a builder long known for quality rigging and engineering excellence, also achieved the openness of an express boat with a sunroof totaling 42 square feet of opening. Taylor Made Products worked with Cruisers Yachts to fabricate the sunroof, whose mechanism is silky and whose materials are top-rate. Operation was flawless, and neither rattle nor wracking were in evidence during my open-water trial.

Belowdecks, you’ll find a cruising chef’s galley with two-burner stove, microwave, refrigerator, freezer, and both drawer and overhead stowage. A skylight allows atriumlike lighting throughout the salon, galley and head. The full-beam, amidships master stateroom previously mentioned also affords standing headroom, a queen berth and a portside settee. There is stowage in the full-length, cedar-lined hanging locker.

Forward, the full-beam dinette seating with stowage converts into a second stateroom that sleeps two. Optional flip-up backrests can create two more berths. Guests will enjoy exceptional natural lighting throughout thanks to post-glazed hull glass extending from the bow to amidships.

The Cruisers Yachts 390 EC starts at $628,035 and boasts innovation and excellence. She should make the short list of those seeking a two-couple cruiser that ably performs double duty as a day boat.
