Hot Yachts: Miami cast open up on glamorous world of multimillion-dollar boat brokers – from chartering plane just for bread to Below Deck comparisons

If you’ve got a hole in your TV schedule where Selling Sunset used to be, and you’re all caught up on the latest Below Deck drama, Hot Yachts: Miami might be the show for you.

The new reality series is setting sail on Paramount+, taking passengers into the seriously glamorous world of super-yacht brokering.

Of course, there will be some choppy waters ahead as agents do battle to get their customers the biggest boats in the marina, and will stop at nothing to make them happy.

Even if that means chartering a plane just for one loaf of bread.

Yes, seriously.

Chatting to Metro.co.uk ahead of the UK release, the cast – including Katya Hall, Vika Avramchuk and Fotis Geranios – lifted the lid on some of the wildest requests they have been given, and just how luxurious the industry really is.

Hot Yachts: Miami cast

Spilling the beans on demands from customers, Katya, aka the ‘queen of super yachts’, told us: ‘We all have plenty… From having to fly provisions to chartering a plane to put a loaf of bread on it and fly it to the Caribbean…

‘I had a client calling me saying, “I’m heading to an airport – when I land I expect a 70m yacht and I want to charter it for three weeks, ready to go.”

‘We’re talking about a multimillion-dollar charter and he said, “I’m going to be unavailable for 10 hours as I’m flying. When I land, I sure hope you have a yacht for me to go on.” Things like this do happen, this is real, and we manage.

‘We get it done every time. Sometimes it seems like a miracle, but we pull them off.’

Katya sounds like someone we need to have on speed dial immediately.

Hot Yachts: Miami Katya

Many have dubbed Hot Yachts: Miami a mix of Selling Sunset and Below Deck, with the latter showing the inner workings – and scandals – of the crew as they aim to please very rich charter guests.

Kaile Justine, who worked on boats herself for years before making the switch to brokering, shared how the programs are lifting the curtain on very different subjects.

‘People who work on the boats, they’re more like a family,’ she said. ‘It’s not drama like that.

‘But being able to put lines on the boat, really stressful situations, when you have wind hitting you and the people on deck don’t know what they’re doing. Of course, that is definitely realistic, because I’ve seen it.

‘We see boats crash in Miami Beach Marina all the time, so definitely that’s realistic.’

Hot Yachts: Miami Kalie

‘I think the idea has been around for such a long time to do a TV show on the world of super yacht brokers,’ Katya continued. ‘Obviously [it’s] very glamorous, especially on the outside.

‘Sometimes [there are] dirty engine rooms and loud noisy shipyards on the inside, but it appears very bright and shiny from the outside, and that’s what we aim to do.

‘We want our clients to only have bright and shiny experiences and we’ll deal with the noisy, dirty shipyards on our end.’

The Below Deck cast have been vocal about the negative reaction they got from their fellow yachting colleagues before joining the show, with Captain Lee Rosbach admitting that he was told his ‘career was over’ for taking part .

After the program – and the spin-offs – grew in popularity, many changed their tune and jumped to get in on the action.

Hot Yachts: Miami cast

When asked about whether they had a similar reaction from their industry colleagues regarding Hot Yachts: Miami, Katya added: ‘Fotis and I have got mixed reviews, the vast majority of people love it, they think it’s a funny show.

’It is good to shed some some light on what we do, and when we introduce more people to yachting. Statistics say that only 5% of people that can afford to buy a charter yacht actually do. So for us, exposure is good, PR is good.

‘Then we had a couple of people saying, “We’re a lot more serious and we’re a lot more corporate than it looks”.

‘Sure, that’s true. But do we want to film boardroom meetings and sitting in front of a computer writing long emails? Of course not. It’s a juggling act.’

Hot Yachts: Miami is available to stream on Paramount+ now.

Katya's journey in the superyacht industry began as a yacht management and new construction specialist. She showcased her skills by overseeing the construction of a magnificent 72m Feadship PREDATOR. This early success paved the way for her future accomplishments.

Katya explains that throughout her career at IYC (International Yacht Company), she achieved remarkable sales and facilitated numerous million-dollar charters on iconic yachts like ANASTASIA/WHEELS, ALFA NERO, DREAM, and many more. Her notable sales include the 55m Hessen M/Y SERENITY, 55m Turquoise M/Y TURQOIUSE, 50m Christensen M/Y SILVER LINING, 46m Baltic Yachts S/Y PINK GIN and 40m CHIQUI among many others. Ahoy Club Team

Joining Ahoy Club and the Paramount Connection with Hot Yachts Miami

Katya's decision to join Ahoy Club was driven by the company's exceptional culture and commitment to innovation. It was during her first encounter with Ahoy Club at the Monaco Yacht Show in 2022 that she noticed their standout qualities. Impressed by their team spirit, innovation, and unmatched customer service, Katya knew that Ahoy Club was a place where she belonged.

Furthermore, the connection between Ahoy Club and Paramount+ added another layer of excitement to her decision. Ahoy Club graciously allowed the Hot Yachts Miami/Paramount+ production team to film the series' first episode onboard the impressive 73m (238ft) Lürssen, CORAL OCEAN during the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. This fortunate collaboration not only showcased CORAL OCEAN as the largest yacht at the show but also highlighted Ahoy Club's gracious hospitality and accommodating nature.

Future Vision and Influence

Katya is thrilled about the future at Ahoy Club. Filming Season 2 of Hot Yachts Miami at Ahoy Club's brand-new Miami office alongside her beloved team members is a source of immense excitement. The palpable energy and camaraderie within the team are infectious, and Katya eagerly anticipates sharing this dynamic experience with viewers.

At Ahoy Club, the vision is clear - to become the most forward-thinking, modern, and tech-savvy yacht brokerage worldwide. To achieve this, CEO Ellie Malouf has brought together a group of exceptional individuals who possess not only brilliant minds but also unique personalities. Working alongside these like-minded colleagues, Katya is excited to contribute her expertise and passion to elevate Ahoy Club's brand and services.

Exciting Ventures Ahead

One of the most thrilling prospects for Katya is the opening of Ahoy Club's first US office in Miami. As a resident of South Florida and having filmed Hot Yachts Miami there, she is eager to capitalize on the city's booming tech industry and introduce potential clients to the exhilarating world of superyachts.

Katya's decision to join Ahoy Club was influenced by their exceptional culture, innovation, and the exciting connection with Paramount+. Her passion for yachts, coupled with Ahoy Club's dynamic vision, positions her to make a lasting impact on the superyacht industry. With the upcoming opening of Ahoy Club's Miami office and the prospect of filming Hot Yachts Miami Season 2, Katya is well-positioned to contribute her expertise and shape the future of Ahoy Club's success.

HOT Yachts: Miami star Vika Avramchuk has revealed she's 'close friends' with two A-list Hollywood actors.

Socialite and former model Vika, 31, is set to become a star in her own right when the Paramount+ series debuts on Thursday in the UK.

Hot Yachts: Miami star Vika Avramchuk is "close friends" with two A-list actors

But she's certainly not a stranger to the world of glitz and glam as, not only does she sell £100m boats to the rich and famous, but she's great pals with Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire.

When asked how she struck up the friendship in an interview with The Sun, Vika said, "I've been on a multitude of Leo's boats every year in Santa Fe when he would have his DiCaprio Foundation Gala back in the day. He doesn't do it anymore.

"But yeah, my best girlfriend, her now ex-boyfriend grew up with Leo when they were teenagers.

"So she would kind of bring me around to not be, you know, alone while all the boys did their thing.

"So eventually I just was doing everything with them and became very close with Leo and Tobey, all those kinds of people.

"Maybe one day Leo will trust me enough to charter through me, but he doesn't really need to charter. People just give their boats to him for free," she joked.

Vika was once invited to an intimate party with the Titanic star on  Roman Abramovich ’s yacht Eclipse, which cost £1.2billion, before the oligarch’s fall from grace over the war in Ukraine

She gushed: “It was more like a cruise ship. Everything was fantastic. To be on a dinghy, then pull up to a vessel that makes that look like a shoe lace to a shoe, is a beautiful feeling.”

Claiming she never dated the Oscar winner, despite his reputation as a ladies man, she added: “I’m able to call them my friends and I guess I get more respect than the other women in the long run. But at the time I would really have loved a snog from Leo.

“I really thought that I was going to walk away with Leo or one of his pals as my boyfriend.”

And while she thinks there's "absolutely no chance" he would make a show cameo, Vika promised she'll try and get "someone juicy" for season two.

She explained, "I just don't think a lot of these people want to show their lives in that way, and they don't need the press.

"But it's got to be someone very handsome, right? Someone with a good personality. I'll have to keep you posted on that."

After Selling Sunset, which lays bare the world of luxe estate agents, comes new show Hot Yachts: Miami which sees the party-loving sales crews competing to sell or charter luxury vessels.

With an eye-watering commission of between ten and 15 per cent, one deal can land a broker millions — meaning ruthless competition is the name of the game.

The first episode of the series focuses on the annual Boat Show in Miami, where the brokers party on the yacht Coral Ocean and have five-star waterside lunches between showing clients their luxury wares.

The cast of the new Paramount+ show, Hot Yachts: Miami, opened up on what it's like to work with the rich and famous.

Due to privacy reasons, they couldn't disclose the specific celebrities they work with but did share their experiences. Speaking to the Mirror US, stars Katya, Vika, Kaile, and Fotis admitted they tend to work more with the rich but not-so-famous. "Primarily my clients are high profile in terms of dollar value but low profile in times of being known. Multibillionaires but under the radar," said Katya. But the ones she has worked with, range in likability.

"Celebrities - they want things for free a lot, and I don't want to generalize, I know they're a few great ones," the Russian-born broker said, "They think that maybe they're doing the yacht a favor by showing up on board."

Vika said: "It is common that a lot of people don't want to charter celebrities because they can get a little bit entitled and rowdy." But Kalie disagrees, saying she's only worked with "respectful" celebrities. "I've had really good experiences with them," she said.

Fotis explained that "sometimes you don't work directly with celebrities you work with their PA's or their family members." Celebrities also typically charter over owning, leaving the brokers with less commission from the deal.

The cast is also very excited for their "lavish" show to premiere and for viewers to see not only the ins and outs of the industry but of the cast's lives as well. "I think we're all pretty cool characters, everyone is so unique and different," Katya said. The cast is ethnically diverse as well, as Katya is from Russia, Fotis is from Greece, Vika is from Ukraine, and Kalie is from Arizona but has a Mexican linage. "We have different backgrounds," Fotis explained.

The new reality show follows yacht brokers in the Florida hotspot, which is described as "not just a millionaire's playground...it's a BILLIONAIRE'S playground" in the show's press release. "People know what a yacht looks like but don't know what goes on behind the scenes," said the newest broker of the bunch, Vika.

"The outside is very lavish but when you dive in deep we put in a lot of hard work, so it's not as easy as it looks," said Kalie, "Every one of us has a hustler mentality and that's what I'm excited for the viewers to see, that it's not all butterflies and rainbows, you know, we put in a lot of hard work."

Hot Yachts: Miami is available to stream from August 3rd on Paramount+.

HOT Yachts: Miami star Vika Avramchuk has revealed she's 'close friends' with two A-list Hollywood actors.

Socialite and former model Vika, 31, is set to become a star in her own right when the Paramount+ series debuts on Thursday in the UK.

But she's certainly not a stranger to the world of glitz and glam as, not only does she sell £100m boats to the rich and famous, but she's great pals with Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire .

When asked how she struck up the friendship in an interview with The Sun , Vika said, "I've been on a multitude of Leo's boats every year in Santa Fe when he would have his DiCaprio Foundation Gala back in the day.

After  Selling Sunset , which lays bare the world of luxe estate agents, comes new show Hot Yachts: Miami which sees the party-loving sales crews competing to sell or charter luxury vessels.

Paramount+ reveals UK factual originals

Paramount+ has revealed a new slate of original factual titles commissioned from the UK production community, ahead of the launch of Paramount+ in the UK and Ireland tomorrow.

Curve Media is behind six-parter Hot Yachts; Two Rivers Media is making three-parter Monster: The Mystery of Loch Ness; there’s a one-off from Lonesome Pine, Simple Minds: Once Upon a Time; six-parter Strip, from Firecracker Scotland; and The Premiership: Rise of the Billionaires, From Story Films and Studio 99.

The announcement follows plans outlined last summer by Ben Frow, chief content officer, UK, Paramount, to feature premium local scripted and unscripted content alongside a selection of shows and movies from Paramount’s  brands and studios.

Hot Yachts  (6 x 60’, Curve Media) Set in South Florida, the centre of the luxury yacht world, Hot Yachts enters the glamorous world of an elite group of super-competitive, party-loving, drop-dead gorgeous yacht brokers as they ruthlessly compete to sell everything from $1M motor launches to $100M super yachts to a glittering array of wealthy buyers. Get ready for big characters, insane parties, huge deals and the ultimate Instagram lifestyle in this reality series. The series was commissioned by Kit Morey, commissioning editor, Factual, Channel 5 & Paramount+ and Daniel Pearl, commissioning editor, Unscripted, Channel 5 & Paramount+. Executive producers for Curve Media are Rob Carey, Camilla Lewis and Charlie Bunce. Monster: The Mystery of Loch Ness (3 x 60’, Two Rivers Media, All3Media) Some say it’s a prehistoric monster, giant eel or sea serpent. For centuries, the deep black waters of Loch Ness have harboured tales and sightings of a huge unknown creature. This epic three-part box set tells the complete and definitive story in a detailed forensic examination of the evidence, and with first-hand accounts from those who claim to have seen, encountered and hunted the beast.  Monster: The Mystery of Loch Ness investigates the sightings and the war between science and evidence – photographic, film, and anecdotal. Telling the human stories of those drawn to both the phenomenon and the place, the series reveals how the creature and this stunning, forbidding landscape has provoked feuds, fakery and failure as well as the genuinely unexplained. The story reveals lifetimes sacrificed to the pursuit of a monster that the scientific establishment has argued cannot exist … or can it? The series is narrated by Dougray Scott and produced by award-winning Two Rivers Media, in association with All3 Media International. Mick McAvoy is executive producer with Stephen Finnigan serving as series producer. The series was ordered by Guy Davies, commissioning editor, Factual, Channel 5 and Paramount+.  All3Media International will handle global sales. Simple Minds: Once Upon a Time (w/t) (1 x 75’, Lonesome Pine Productions) Over three years in the making,  Simple Minds: Once Upon a Time (w/t) presents the untold story of one of Scotland’s biggest musical exports. For the first time ever, Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill tell their own story: the highs and lows of a forty-year career and a fifty-year friendship. How did two young kids from Glasgow deal with global adoration, success, and riches, and how does any creative relationship survive that pressure? Featuring unseen archive footage and with unique access to both Jim and Charlie, the film will reveal previously unheard tales as told by the band members themselves and their peers, spanning over forty years of global hits and worldwide tours. Simple Minds: Once Upon a Time is made by Lonesome Pine Productions for Paramount+ and financed by BMG. It was commissioned by Greg Barnett, commissioning editor, Factual Entertainment, Channel 5 & Paramount+. Strip  (6 x 60’, Firecracker Scotland) This series takes you into the glamourous, aspirational world of strippers working the iconic Vegas Strip. For these women, stripping isn’t just a way to make ends meet, it’s a profession, an art form and a cornerstone of the economy. From the glitzy stages to the VIP rooms in the super clubs,  Strip  will follow a main cast of nine women onstage, backstage and at home, all determined to be the best in the business. The series was commissioned by Dan Louw, commissioning editor, Factual, Channel 5 & Paramount+, and made by Firecracker Scotland, part of the Tinopolis Group. Executive producers are Elspeth O’Hare and Jennifer Gilroy. Strip  will be distributed by Passion Distribution. The Premiership: Rise of the Billionaires (w/t)  (4 x 60’, Story Films, Studio 99, All3Media International) This is the English Premier League’s coming of age story, told by its stars. As the Premier League entered its second decade (2000-2010), international billionaires set out to make their mark on the footballing landscape with open cheque books, transforming the game forever. With drama both on and off the pitch, this is the era that English football truly found its place on the world stage. Combining premium archive with exclusive and candid interviews, this series is a co-production between the documentary team at Story Films, David Beckham’s Studio 99, and All3Media International. The series was ordered by Daniel Louw, commissioning editor, Factual, Channel 5 and Paramount+. Executive producers for Story Films are Peter Beard and Adam Hopkins, with series producer, Tom Wilde. Executive producers for Studio 99 are Nicola Howson and David Gardner, with Josef Kaplicky as Producer. All3Media International will handle global sales.

‘Below Deck’ Sails Into a New Era

With a different captain at the helm and new production elements, the reality show about charter yachts is switching up its style.

A man in a crew member suit stands behind a bar and tends to flowers in a vase.

By Shivani Gonzalez

Starting a new season of “ Below Deck ” can be similar to returning to summer camp as a kid — you know it’s going to be fun and that you’ll be in the same environment, but some of the people will be different and you’re not quite sure what the vibes will be.

This time around, in particular, feels that way because for the first time in the show’s 11-season run, Captain Lee Rosbach is no longer at the helm. It’s a pivotal moment for a franchise that has become one of the most popular entities in the sprawling universe of reality TV since premiering on Bravo in 2013 . The show’s appeal was built on endless romances between various crew members (“boatmances,” as they came to be known), horrible charter guests and some sort of passive-aggressive fight about how many shackles of the anchor chain should be in the water. And there was always Rosbach presiding over the drama as he trudged around the boat, reeling off one liners like “I’m madder than a pissed-on chicken” and “we screwed the pooch so many times we should have a litter of puppies running around.”

At the center of the show now is Kerry Titheradge (the stern yet goofy captain of “Below Deck Adventure” fame), who is managing the Motor Yacht Saint David with the cheeky chief stew Fraser Olender by his side.

With that change in captain, the energy on the boat — both onscreen and off — is different, according to Olender.

“Lee has a no B.S. attitude, which I love with him,” Olender said in an interview. “With Kerry, he taught me a lot and sort of forced to me confront issues directly with my team, work them out, as opposed to making executive decisions too soon.”

This shift in management style changes the central conflict — whereas the drama once focused on the captain swiftly kicking out any unpleasant crew member (as we might have seen with Rosbach), the drama now focuses on the whole crew trying to get along (since Titheradge gives people those second chances).

Additionally, Olender noted that the captain’s relationship with the crew can also affect the drama on board.

“Captains absolutely do get involved, whether they know it or not,” Olender said, adding that for the crew, everything is about “trying to impress your captain.”

This phenomenon plays out early in the new season when the lead deckhand, Ben Willoughby, called out a fellow crew member over the radios about not wearing a life vest — something he easily could have done in private. The drama that followed became an interpersonal conflict between the two of them, both with the ultimate goal of impressing Titheradge. (Of course, the two deckhands had kissed on the previous crew night out, which is more in line with the “Below Deck” drama viewers are used to.)

For “Below Deck” showrunners, the changeovers in the cast allowed them to rethink what the show would look like.

From the season premiere, it was immediately apparent that Rosbach’s absence wasn’t the only change this season: The filming is sleeker, the daily, multicourse meals prepared by the chef are given their own glamour shots and the cameras sometimes cut to the perspectives of yachties running around on deck and through the galley.

“Our showrunner, Lauren Simms, is an avid consumer of all different kinds of media,” Noah Samton, a senior vice president of unscripted current production for NBCUniversal, said in an interview. “She pitches us different ideas on how to stylistically evoke different feelings and change the mood a little bit of ‘Below Deck’ without removing what really works.”

Moving through the rest of the season, and potentially through seasons to come, Olender is aiming to bring a cutthroat management style while also bringing affection for his stews, all with his signature British humor.

On Bravo’s side, there are changes in the works for the other “Below Deck” spinoffs — including “Sailing Yacht,” “Mediterranean” and “Down Under” — which collectively, have 26 seasons. Specifically, Samton said that “Down Under” is currently filming and that even though fans should be ready to see new things, the show will stay true to its original concept.

“These are real yachties doing a real job so you have to stay within those confines because the audience isn’t going to want anything that is too produced or fake,” Samton said. “So we have to find ways to reinvent while staying true to the original concept of the show.”

And as Olender said: “I’m sure that every year if I were to work with this franchise again, that I’ll be thrown a collection of total chaotic and disastrous stews — that’s what makes it watchable.”

An earlier version of this article misquoted Fraser Olender, the chief stew of “Below Deck.” He said, “I also feel like Kerry this season. ... Lee has a no B.S. attitude, which I love with him,” not “I feel like Kerry this season, as opposed to Lee, has a no B.S. attitude, which I love with him.”
