The Mirage 29 is a 29.0ft masthead sloop designed by Phillippe Harle and built in fiberglass by Mirage Yachts Ltd (CAN) since 1986.

290 units have been built..

The Mirage 29 is a moderate weight sailboat which is a reasonably good performer. It is stable / stiff and has a low righting capability if capsized. It is best suited as a day-boat. The fuel capacity is originally very small. There is a very short water supply range.

Mirage Yachts Ltd

Mirage Yachts Ltd. was formed in February of 1972 by Dick and Irene Steffen, for the purpose of building the Mirage 24 designed by C&C. Up until this point they had owned a large volume C&C dealership in Point Claire, Quebec. At the time C&C did not build any model smaller than the 27. Dick was a very keen racing sailor and wanted a smaller MORC boat to both sail and sell from his retail dealership. At his request the C&C had designed a 24 footer, but C&C decided not to built it. Steffen then bought the design and set up his own shop on the second floor of a rented building in Point Claire, Que to build it. Sales of the 24 were gratifying and eventually 15 workers were busily turning out new Mirage 24’s. A lot of the reason for its success was based on its racing record in MORC class racing. Fifteen years after its introduction, a Mirage 24 placed #1 in the production-built division at the MORC national championships. The Mirage 24 proved so successful that an envious C&C shortly thereafter introduced the C&C 25, quite similar in design to the Mirage 24. Nevertheless, the Mirage 24 continued to sell very well and dominated the C&C 25 on the race course. When Dick then approached the C&C design team for a larger model and was turned down, he turned to designer Robert Perry for the new boat. In 1975, the plant was moved to a 12,000 sq. ft facility in nearby Vaudreuil, Que. The Perry designed Mirage 26 (later stretched to a 27) was introduced shortly thereafter. By 1979 the plant had grown to 30,000 sq.ft. with an additional 5,000 sq. ft. spar manufacturing facility in Dorion. Que. In 1983 the plant was again increased to 35,000 sq.ft. to accommodate the new Perry designed Mirage 33/35. The Bob Perry models were highly successful and the core of steady growth at Mirage for over a decade. Eventually the Mirage 26/27 was followed by the Mirage 33/35, the Mirage 30/32 series and the remarkable Mirage 25. Each of these models while remaining at the upper end of the performance scale, established the Mirage as a wholesome family cruiser. In the late 70’s the J/24 became the scourge of the race course. Seeing an opportunity opened by the interest in the J/24, Dick asked his old friend and Laser/International 14 designer, Bruce Kirby to design a new boat in this size range. The Kirby 25 was the result. Soon Kirby 25’s were pounding the PHRF and MORC fleets even worse than the J/24 did. When J/Boats introduced the J/30, Mirage unveiled the Kirby 30. which on the water rocketed right by the J. Ironically, J/Boats then introduced the J/29– a boat a whole lot like the Kirby 30. The modified Kirby 30, the Mirage 30SX remains today, a highly competitive PHRF or MORC rocket. In the mid-eighties the “French Invasion,” fueled by an advantageous exchange rate, amd minimal import duties was in full swing in North America, lead by Beneteau, Jeanneau , Elite, and others. The French boats sported avant garde styling and reasonable two stateroom accommodations, even in smaller boats under 35’. Sales of the Perry designed Mirage 30, (generally thought of as a superb sailing boat) were dissapointing. In 1985, Steffen looking to build a replacement model to the aging 27, asked several designers to do preliminaries for a 28 footer with a double aft cabin. The design submitted by Phillippe Harle’s was Steffens choice which became the MIRAGE 29 and was introduced in the spring of 1986. This model was an instant success. About 50 boats were sold before hull #1 hit the water and nearly three hundred were eventually built. The MIRAGE 275 and MIRAGE 39 followed, both also Harle designs. Not long after the introduction of the MIRAGE 39, Mirage Yachts Ltd. was sold to a Montreal investor who very shortly went out of business.

Mirage 30 (29?) or Great Lakes boat

mirage 29 yacht

  • Add to quote

I would appreciate insight on a Mirage 30 (29?). I don’t know the year, but I think mid-to-late eighties. I haven’t looked closely at the boat, but it belongs to my dock-neighbour and it seemed as though he was meticulous about its upkeep. I currently have a Nash 26 – 1979. We like the boat very much: it is roomy enough for the two of us for extended cruising. I am just not very confident in its suitability for handling some of the conditions into which I sail (or get caught sailing). I sail on Georgian Bay and am frequently out in winds above 25 kn. I have been out in winds above that, although usually that is the gust speed. I frequently single-hand out to Hope Island and beyond, where I have encountered 2 – 3 metre waves (being a lake these are short, steep waves, not long, rolling ocean waves). I want a boat that is more durable and designed more for those conditions than the Nash. I think that a heavier boat would make a big difference. The Nash weighs in at just over 5,000 lbs. I sailed a 32’ Oday last summer and could really feel the difference in the weight. The Mirage weighs in at about 7,000 lbs. I have considered a Catalina 30 or a CS 30 as well as these weigh in at 10,000 and 8,000 lbs. I think that the standing rigging is heavier gauge on these boats as well. This is another thing I am concerned about. The Nash is a good cruising boat, but I don’t feel that it is robust enough. Another main consideration is the berthing. I think that most of the boats in the 30 – 32’ have comparable V-berths (i.e. barely adequate for 2 adults to sleep). I generally sleep on the settee in the salon while my wife usually has the V-berth to herself. What is your opinion on the quarter-berth arrangement of the Mirage. I have looked at the plans for the boat but have trouble visualizing the set-up. I know I won’t have a problem actually looking aboard the neighbour’s boat to see the reality, I just wondered if anyone has any first-hand experience with sleeping in the quarter-berth. We usually do a two-week cruise on the Bay each year and most weekends are spent on the boat, so comfortable sleeping is important. I spend a lot of time single-handing. I think that the Mirage 30’ should be suitable for this. Any comments? We currently have a shoal-draft (3’6”) on the Nash and love the accessibility that it allows us to some of the smaller anchorages around the Bay. The Mirage has a 4’8” draft. This will somewhat limit our access, but I think might be worth the trade-off for seaworthiness. If you have any other insight into to Mirage, please don’t hesitate to offer it up. We had hoped to spend this summer researching boats in the 30 – 32 foot range that would be suitable for the type of sailing I’ve described. I would appreciate any recommendations that you can make with regards to other boats that might suit us. Ideally our budget is up to about $40,000.00 CDN. I have seen many boats in the size range we are looking at priced quite a bit lower. Any advice will be much appreciated. Dave

Problem here is that Mirage made a 30 (Robert Perry) and a 29 (euro/French design) so the first chore is to determine which one you're looking at.

The seller is calling it a Mirage 30, so let's assume it's the Perry design for now. I'll confirm this with him. What does that do to the recommendations or lack thereof? Thanks

Check the menu on the left: Used Sailboats in central Canada Also, the Mirage 30/32 is the same boat except the 32 has a reverse transom.

Mirage 29 owner chiming in... Can't comment on the Mirage 30 but I have owned a Mirage 29 for 5 years and can attest to the quality of the workmanship from the Mirage yard compared to many other boats of the same era. I previously owned a C&C 29 MkII that I sailed on Lake Ontario and the Mirage is built much better. Boat is 24 years old and not one crack in the gelcoat, even around the stanchions. Was not the case with the C&C which developed leaks around the glued side windows. The Mirage 29 is well behaved and does not tend to become overpowered as easily as similar 30'- boats. Actually, C&C 29 was really tender compared to the Mirage. Interior is comparable to the modern boats with a very decent aft cabin and galley arrangement. The only time you notice any issue is when you move forward as the coach roof drops quickly forward of the mast so you have to duck while approaching the v-berth. Ideal boat for a couple. Looking forward to many more years cruising this boat as I can't find anything newer that would offer much more (except for major loan payments):laugher . Cheers, Moxie Skipper

Mirage 29 I have a beautiful Mirage 29 in Lion's Head harbour that has been rigged out to sail south but has never gone. It is exceptionally well built with all of the best parts including a Volvo diesel. Mine is a 1987 model - the French design with aft cabin. The one drawback is head height. If you are over 6 feet tall this is not the boat for you. I am over 6 feet and am looking at selling the boat for that reason only. It is fast, solid and reliable - therefore more expensive than others in that size range but still considerably well below your $40,000 goal.

You will find a huge difference in performance. A friend had a Nash 26 and I found it to be a very slow boat.

Flying Welshman-Mirage Having sailed a Nash 26 for a few years, you might find a Mirage 29/30 a little too spirited for your liking. To answer your question: Mirage 30, Robert Perry design, 8000 lbs, 10.5 feet beam, 23.75 feet on waterline. As boat heals, picks up more waterline length. 15hp Yanmar diesel, later models 18hp Volvo. They have Whitlock wheel draglink steering with good feel almost like steering with a tiller (yuck!) Boat loves to heal, stiffens up when rail a foot from water. Will do 6.7 knots on a close reach, and is fastest just ahead of beam reach. T Cockpit very roomy , seats six comfortably for socializing at the dock. Mirage 29, French design, shorter mast, smaller rig, but still quite quick. Less tender than 30. V berth smaller than 30, but aft cabin a little larger. Volvo 18hp diesel. Cockpit smaller on 29, with bench seats. You must crawl over cockpit seats to get ahead of the wheel. Gelcoat and glass generally good on Mirage yachts. I saw a Mirage 30 with a full enclosure on Georgian Bay this summer. It looked quite roomy. Hope this helps.

Broker Remarks

The Mirage 29 is relaxed, spacious cruising yacht. With ample storage and space. it holds six berths within 2 cabins, that be changed in double berths. The saloon is a spacious and comfortable area, that creates a relaxed and enjoyable time onboard. It runs on 18hp 2 cylinder sea water cooled Volvo Penta diesel engine with  a cruising speed of 5-6Kts. And comes with an array of Sails, navigational, general and safety equipment.  Owner's Remarks: "Steeplejack is a fish from the Steeple in Essex.  My family and I have had some fantastic holidays around South Wales and North Devon with her.   She is wonderfully roomy for a 29' boat providing ample accommodation for the four of us.  The Mirage is a solid boat that will happily take the ground which is a great bonus sailing on the Bristol Channel and surrounding waters.   Steeplejack and I took part in the 2015 Jesters Challenge - Pwhelli to Baltimore (Ireland) via the Fastnet Rock - where she performed admirably.  On the return to Swansea from Baltimore, with a good force 6 from the West we returned to Swansea in under 48 hours, so she's no slouch either.   There are 2 reasons for moving on from Steeplejack.  Firstly the children are moving onto University and college and sail less and less.  Secondly I would like to pursue future Jesters Challenges further afield and I feel a smaller boat would suit my needs better.     Needless to say we will be sad to see her go, but we have some fabulous memories to take with us"

Accommodation

Steeple jack offers ample amount of space for her size. it has 6 berth within 2 cabins, a two single v berth with a infill to create a double at the bow and double aft berth. With additional 2 single berths port and starboard.  The heads are separate on the starboard side with a sink, marine toilet, all the piping was replaced in 2000.  A spacious saloon has a central table with drop leaves with central bottle storage. a reasonably sized chart table is fitted on the starboard side. The saloon spacious and comfortable, creating a relaxed and enjoyable time onboard.  The Galley is on the port side two burner gas ( flexible hoses to gas cooker replaced in 2012) oven, sink (manual pump for cold water), and ample storage. The cooper gas piping and gas bottle installation was all new and corgi tested in 1999. The current owner has replaced all windows in 2014, removed all headlining and painted and replaced hatch acrylic in 2016.

The manufacturing industry in Indonesia is proliferating, contributing almost a quarter of Indonesia's gross domestic product (GDP). This development encourages companies engaging in the industry to increase production capacity. As a result, the employees are demanded to work harder as the manufacturing sector rises. Overwork can result in fatigue, stress and various health problems. However, work stress is a common problem faced in almost all industries and often affects employee performance. Therefore, the main purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of work stress on employee performance in the manufacturing industry in Indonesia. The sample of this research is 93 employees at the staff level who work in various manufacturing companies. This study uses partial structural data analysis techniques using SPSS version 20.0. These techniques are used to analyze the effect of work stress and work environment on employee performance. The results showed that work stress and work environment has a significant impact on employee performance with the value of R = 0.972. Based on the survey result, non-standard working hours and poor relationship with colleagues/superiors contribute to the creation of work stress which has an impact on low performance. Thus, this study suggests the organization to perform a proper stress management as a solution to work stress by implementing flexible working hours and holding discussion forums and meetings between employees. Therefore, employees will be more motivated to improve work productivity.

STRESS MANAGEMENT AND EMPLOYEE PERFORMANCE

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between stress management and employee performance. The objective of the study was to investigate the influence of stress, management, workload, role ambiguity, role conflict, effectiveness, efficiency and commitment on employee performance. The study analyzed the literature review, theoretical framework as, well as empirical studies by other authors from which the conceptual framework was built. The study was set to be informed by the role theory effect. This study thus concluded that stress management bears a positive and significant influence on employee performance. We recommend that management should design task and jobs in ways that would make for effective, efficiency and commitment and bring about improvement in the performance of their workforce and that flexible job schedules should be incorporated into human resource management strategies, policies and plan to enhance easy employee performance and commitment that will increase organizational survival.

Job stress and job satisfaction are important factors affecting workforce productivity. This study was carried out to investigate the job stress, job satisfaction, and workforce productivity levels, to examine the effects of job stress and job satisfaction on workforce productivity, and to identify factors associated with productivity decrement among employees of an Iranian petrochemical industry.

In this study, 125 randomly selected employees of an Iranian petrochemical company participated. The data were collected using the demographic questionnaire, Osipow occupational stress questionnaire to investigate the level of job stress, Job Descriptive Index to examine job satisfaction, and Hersey and Goldsmith questionnaire to investigate productivity in the study population.

The levels of employees' perceived job stress and job satisfaction were moderate-high and moderate, respectively. Also, their productivity was evaluated as moderate. Although the relationship between job stress and productivity indices was not statistically significant, the positive correlation between job satisfaction and productivity indices was statistically significant. The regression modeling demonstrated that productivity was significantly associated with shift schedule, the second and the third dimensions of job stress (role insufficiency and role ambiguity), and the second dimension of job satisfaction (supervision).

Corrective measures are necessary to improve the shift work system. “Role insufficiency” and “role ambiguity” should be improved and supervisor support must be increased to reduce job stress and increase job satisfaction and productivity.

1. Introduction

The nature of work has changed considerably in many sectors of industry over the past decades [1] . Modern organizations consider job stress and job satisfaction of their employees as two important workplace issues [2] . According to recent studies, occupational stress accounts for 50–60% of all lost working days [3] . Work-related stress is considered to be harmful when physical and emotional responses occur when there is a mismatch between job requirements and the workers' capabilities, resources, or needs [4] . Most researchers agree that workplace factors can cause work-related stress [5] . These factors are divided into physical and psychosocial hazards. Exposure to physical hazards in the workplace can be associated with anxiety that, in turn, drives experiencing work-related stress. Psychosocial hazards include factors related to work design, organization, and management, together with workplace social structure that can have negative effects on individuals [6] . Work-related stress usually influences individual and organizational issues including behavioral, mental, as well as physical outcomes, performance, job satisfaction, and organizational commitment [7] .

Applied research indicates strong correlations between dimensions of workplace, stress, and job satisfaction. High levels of work stress are associated with low levels of job satisfaction. Job stressors are predictive for job dissatisfaction and a greater propensity to leave the organization [8] .

Job satisfaction is the affective orientation that an employee has towards his/her work. It can be considered as an overall feeling about the job or as a related constellation of attitudes about various aspects of the job [9] . There is growing evidence that current trends in employment conditions may have negative effects on job satisfaction and deteriorate the physical and mental health of employees [10] . Affective disposition on job satisfaction consists of two facets: positive affectivity and negative affectivity. High energy, eagerness, and pleasurable involvement represent positive affectivity while distress, unpleasant involvement, and nervousness show negative affectivity [11] .

Work-related stress is a vital factor to job satisfaction. When functioning as a motivator, work-related stress results in creativity and satisfaction and consequently removes boredom and mundanity. Stress leads to aggression and low job satisfaction when it functions as a negative factor [2] . Job satisfaction may protect workers from stressors. Satisfaction is a regulating factor for stress. During the neoclassical period (1920–1950), theories supported the fact that employees' satisfaction directly affected productivity. They believed that there was a cause-effect relationship between satisfaction and productivity. This answered the question why organizations tried to improve their employees' productivity by different ways. These two factors (work-related stress and job satisfaction) may have a negative impact on the productivity of a working group and consequently cause an added cost to expenses of a company [2] . The analysis of the present situation at the international level has revealed, among others, the necessity of improving work quality and productivity, as well as providing safety and health in the work place [12] .

The petrochemical industry is an important industry in Iran from the viewpoints of economics and employment. There are critical jobs in the petrochemical industry, such as control room operation, maintenance, site operation, firefighting, etc. In such an industry, job stress and dissatisfaction may have a negative impact on productivity and safety of employees.

Given the above, since there is little study on such issue among petrochemical employees, the present study was carried out to investigate the impact of job stress and job satisfaction on employees' productivity in an Iranian petrochemical company.

2. Materials and methods

This cross-sectional study was conducted from October 2014 to May 2015, in an Iranian petrochemical company with 325 employees, located at Asalouyeh, in the southern part of Iran in which methanol was produced as the final product. The sample size was determined with reference to a study by Naqvi et al [13] . Taking the β (power) of 80% and α (the first type error) = 5% into consideration, using Medcalc software (MedCalc Software bvba, Ostend, Belgium) the sample size was calculated to be 125. Participants were randomly selected from the personal list provided by the company.

2.1. Data gathering tools

An anonymous self-administered questionnaire was used to collect the required data for each participant. The questionnaire consisted of the following four parts:

(1) a demographic questionnaire was used for collecting personal details including age, weight, height, work experience, daily work hours, gender, marital status, level of education, type of employment and working schedule; (2) the Persian version of Osipow occupational stress inventory was used to investigate the level of job stress among the study population. Occupational stress was measured by six subscales, i.e., role overload, role insufficiency, role ambiguity, role boundary, responsibility, and physical environment. Each subscale contains 10 items. There are 60 items in total in the scale. Each item is scored on a 5-point Likert scale (1 = never, 2 = occasionally, 3 = sometimes, 4 = usually, and 5 = most of the time). A high subscale score depicts a greater level of role stressor. The obtained scores are classified as: low (10–19), low-moderate (20–29), moderate-high (30–39), and high (40–50) [14] . The total score of the job stress questionnaire is also divided into four levels, as follows: low (60–119), low-moderate (120–179), moderate-high (180–239), and high (240–300) [14] . The validity and reliability of this questionnaire were assessed in a study by Sharifian et al [15] and cronbach alpha coefficient was calculated to be 0.83; (3) the Persian version of Job Descriptive Index (JDI) was used to investigate job satisfaction. The JDI consists of 39 items in five subscales, i.e., work (10 items), pay (6 items), promotion (5 items), supervision (8 items), and coworkers (10 items). Each part measures one particular area of job satisfaction. A response was collected to each item on a 5-point Likert scale (1 = never, 2 = occasionally, 3 = often, 4 = usually, and 5 = most of the time). The scores of each subscale were added together for each respondent to obtain a JDI total score reflecting the overall job satisfaction. No cutoff point has been reported to define the upper and the lower limits of job satisfaction index in the scientific literature, therefore, we used the minimum and the maximum attainable scores of JDI (39–195) to judge about the level of job satisfaction in the study population. Regarding this, if the mean score of JDI was near the lower limit score (39), near the midpoint (117), and near the upper limit score (195), job satisfaction was considered as low, moderate, and high, respectively. The validity and reliability of this questionnaire were assessed in a study by Norbakhsh and Mirnaderi in which the cronbach alpha coefficient was 0.88 [16] ; and (4) the Persian version of the Hersey and Goldsmith questionnaire was applied to investigate workers' productivity. This questionnaire consists of 26 items in seven subscales: ability (3 items), occupational identification (4 items), organization support (4 items), motivation (4 items), performance feedback (4 items), credit (4 items), and environment compatibility (3 items). Each item was scored on a 5-point Likert scale (1 = never, 2 = occasionally, 3 = often, 4 = usually, and 5 = true most of the time). Similar to JDI, no cut-off point has been indicated to define the upper and the lower limits for productivity index in the scientific literature, therefore, the minimum and the maximum attainable scores of this index (29–130) were used to judge about the level of productivity of the study population. Based on this, if the mean score of productivity score was near the lower limit score (29), near the midpoint (79.5), and near the upper limit score (130), productivity was considered as lower, moderate, and high, respectively. The validity and reliability of this questionnaire were assessed in a study by Nasirpour et al [17] in which the cronbach alpha coefficient was 0.81.

2.2. Data analysis

Upon completion of the field survey and data collection, data were transferred into the computer for statistical analysis. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS version 19 (IBM, Armonk, NY, USA). Pearson correlation analysis was used to examine the relationship between quantitative variables such as stress, job satisfaction, and productivity scores. To assess the factors affecting productivity, linear regression analysis was applied. In all tests, the significance level was set at 0.05.

Table 1 summarizes personal details of the employees who participated in the study. According to Table 1 , mean age of the study participants was 30.95 ± 5.26 years, ranging from 22 years to 48 years. The employees' mean work experience was 7.04 ± 3.81 years (1–21 years). A large majority of the participants had university education (73.6%). Some 70.4% of the study population was married and 55.2% of the participants were shift workers.

Table 1

Demographic characteristics of the employees studied ( N  = 125)

Data are presented as n (%)

According to Table 2 , the mean score of job stress was calculated to be 181.27 ± 24.17 indicating “moderate-high” level of stress. One-way ANOVA, independent t test and Pearson coefficient statistical procedures did not show any significant relationship between the mean job stress score and demographic characteristics of the participants. Additionally, the statistical analyses revealed no significant relationship between the mean scores of job stress and job satisfaction ( p  = 0.152) and productivity.

Table 2

Statistical analyses for assessment indices ( N  = 125)

The mean job satisfaction score was found to be 129.96 ± 18.84 indicating “moderate” level of job satisfaction. One-way ANOVA test showed a significant U shape relationship between the mean score of job satisfaction and age ( p  = 0.024). A post hoc test indicated that there was a significant difference in job satisfaction means score among the three age groups, such that the mean job satisfaction score in the 31–38 years age group was lower than those of the other two groups (i.e., 22–30 years and 39–48 years). Independent t test also showed that the mean job satisfaction score was significantly higher in married individuals than in single individuals ( p  = 0.009).

The mean score of productivity index was found to be 70.52 ± 11.89, indicating “moderate” level of productivity. A one-way ANOVA test showed a significant relationship between the mean productivity score and the third dimension of job stress (role ambiguity) ( p  = 0.0001). The mean score of productivity index showed a direct significant relationship with the first, the second, and the third dimensions of job satisfaction index (work, supervision, and coworkers) ( p  < 0.05). This indicated that higher scores of the mentioned dimensions of job satisfaction index were related to higher productivity.

Also, an independent t test indicated that the mean score of productivity index was significantly lower in shift workers than in fixed day workers ( p  = 0.024). No statistical significant relationship was found between the mean score of productivity index and other demographic characteristics.

In order to investigate the correlation between job stress and job satisfaction indices and productivity index in the study participants, Pearson correlation coefficient was used. The result of this analysis showed that although the correlation between job stress index and productivity index was not statistically significant ( p  > 0.05), the correlation between job satisfaction index and productivity index was statistically significant ( p  = 0.04). This relationship was positive and the correlation coefficient ( r  = 0.37) indicated a weak correlation between these two variables. This means that with an increase in the mean job satisfaction score, the mean productivity score would increase.

In order to investigate factors affecting productivity index, multiple linear regression analysis was used. Based on the results of one-way ANOVA and univariate analyses, it was found that work schedule (shift or fixed), working hours, the second, the third, and the sixth dimensions of job stress index (role insufficiency, role ambiguity, and physical environment) and the first, the second, the third, and the fourth dimensions of job satisfaction index (work load, supervision, coworkers, and promotion) were eligible to enter the linear regression model ( p  < 0.25) [18] .

The results of regression modeling revealed that the variables of shift schedule, the second and the third dimensions of job stress (role insufficiency and role ambiguity), and the second dimension of job satisfaction (supervision) remained in the model. According to the coefficient of determination ( R 2 ), 22.3% of the changes related to productivity index could be explained by current variables ( Table 3 ). The final score of the job stress index is classified into four levels (low, low-moderate, moderate-high, and high). That is why a dummy variable was defined in order to correctly interpret the dimensions of stress; low job stress was regarded to be the base in the model.

4. Discussion

The results showed that the mean productivity score in shift workers was significantly lower than that of fixed day workers, which was in line with the results of other studies [19] , [20] , [20] . This decline may be due to factors such as health problems, impaired social life, sleep disorders, and circadian misalignment during shift work [21] . One reason could be that when people work outside of their normal sleep-wake cycle, a mismatch occurs between the body's biological clock and events taking place in the environment, and consequently affects the individual's activities [22] .

The results showed a U shape significant relationship between the mean job satisfaction score and age, so that the mean job satisfaction score in the 31–38 years age group was significantly lower than those of the two other age groups ( i.e., 22–30 years and 39–48 years). This finding is in agreement with the results of other studies [23] , [24] . One possible reason is that young people are highly motivated during the first years of employment which can lead to a high job satisfaction. This level of job satisfaction declines during the middle years of employment due to job repetitiveness and job restrictions; after this period, job satisfaction continuously increases with age [24] . This increase is justified based on Herzberg's “modified expectation” theory. On the basis of this theory, when age and job experience increase, the individual's expectations of her/his work begin to become more realistic. This may result in job satisfaction increment. In a study, a direct linear relationship was reported between age and job satisfaction which was not in agreement with Herzberg's hypothesis of the U-shaped relationship between these variables [25] .

The results of the present study showed that job satisfaction in married individuals was higher than single ones, which was in agreement with the results of some other studies [26] , [27] . According to Bowen, single young people hesitate in decision-making on how to keep their jobs and do not know whether they have selected the jobs they are currently working in for their entire life or just for a certain period. Thus, job satisfaction in these individuals is lower than in older and married ones [27] . It is to be noted that these findings are not consistent with the results of other studies [28] , [29] , [30] .

The results demonstrated a significant negative relationship between role insufficiency and productivity in such a way that when role insufficiency increased, productivity decreased. Meleis [31] defined role insufficiency as any kind of problem in identifying the role, playing a role, or role-related goals understood by the individual or others. This finding is similar to a study by Wu et al [32] . In this study, role insufficiency was determined as one of the factors which had a direct and significant impact on depression. Depression is a common mental health problem in the world which increases employees' absenteeism and reduces productivity [32] . It was also reported in a study that increased job stress was associated with increased role insufficiency [33] . Increased stress can lead to reduced job satisfaction and productivity of individuals [2] .

The present study showed that there was a significant negative relationship between role ambiguity and productivity such that increased role ambiguity would cause reduced productivity in individuals. Role ambiguity is a state during which individuals have no clear and direct understanding about their roles in the organization [34] . It appears when the duties are not clearly defined for the individual and she/he is frightened of doing things or accepting responsibility. Role stressors mainly include role ambiguity and role conflict which can lead to increased employees absenteeism and frequent work delays, increase in employees' turnover and reduced workforce productivity [35] . In a study by Rizwan et al, a significant positive relationship was observed between role ambiguity and job stress such that role ambiguity was reported to cause 15% increase in job stress [28] . Increased job stress is accompanied with reduced performance and job satisfaction, which finally leads to lower productivity of individuals and increased costs incurred by the organization [2] .

The results of the regression modeling indicated that supervision could have an effective role in increasing productivity, which was in agreement with the results of a study by Frimpong et al [36] . In this study, a strong interaction was reported between the workers' perceived supervisor support and productivity, in such a way that workers who were not supported by their supervisors had lower productivity as compared to those who were provided with adequate support [36] . Providing appropriate support in the workplace by the supervisor would cause reduced stress on the individuals and protect her/him against adverse effects of job demands, job dissatisfaction, and depression [33] .

4.1. Limitations

Regarding the cross-sectional nature of the present study and data gathering based on self-report, the findings should be considered cautiously. In the self-report method, there may be problems will deception, denial, or recall. Additionally, in this study job stress and productivity were not examined using objective methods. The results of the study could be more conclusive if objective measures were included.

5. Conclusion

The findings of the present study showed that the employees' perceived job stress and job satisfaction were moderate-high and moderate, respectively. Also, their productivity was assessed as moderate. According to the study results, shift working, “role insufficiency”, and “role ambiguity” were determined as the contributing factors for reduced productivity; “supervision support” was also found to be an effective factor for increased productivity. Based on the study findings, to achieve lower job stress, higher job satisfaction, and productivity in the workplace, the following supportive measures are recommended:

  • • Identifying and optimizing the factors influencing job stress and job satisfaction
  • • Providing direct staff support by management
  • • Employing individuals according to their expertise and abilities
  • • Providing exact definition and description of jobs for employees
  • • Selecting fit employees for shift working

It has been noted in various news & studies that a majority of the employees face severe stress related ailments and many psychological problems in the organizations. Hence, the management must take necessary initiatives in helping their employees to overcome the disastrous effects of work stress, because employees spend roughly one third of their lives working in an organization. Employees, who are stressed, are also more likely to be unhealthy, poorly motivated, less productive and less safe at work. This way, work stress can be a real problem to the organization as well as for its workers. Therefore, this study can be helpful in assessing the level of stress experienced by the bank employees, in identifying major causes and effect of work stress on such employees and in exploring various methods to manage stress. It will also try to provide the necessary suggestions and findings for the bank employees to manage such burden of stress in order to improve their performance and increase their productivity. Therefore, an attempt is made to analyze the impact of work stress on individual life of bank employees. The present study is based on survey method using both primary and secondary data. Primary data have been collected directly from 10 leading public and private banks at Meerut city of Western Uttar Pradesh using simple random method. 10 employees have been taken as sample from each bank branch. The total employees covered have been 100.

Stress can either help or hinder one's effectiveness depending upon the stress level. When the level increases, personal effectiveness increases but, when the stress crosses the optimum level, the persons' effectiveness declines. Too much tension in the string also yields very poor result and may break the string. A group can also be a potential source of stress. These group stressors can be categorized into three areas. They are lack of group cohesiveness, lack of social support and intra individual, interpersonal and inter-group conflicts. Among individual factors contributing to stress are personality, life and career changes and lift trauma. Job stress is becoming a day to day problem for many of our life. It's all because of the fast world evolution. Everyday we have to cope with the fast life and change ourselves into machine like objects. There is no time for relaxation, no time to take self care, no time to spend with our own family, no time to play with our children. All such agony's can accumulate and form a stress. Major causative agent for stress creation is our work place. Many of us always think about our office and sometimes bring office work to home also. Then there is no time for mind relaxation, so automatically a stress is created.

Everyone who has ever held a job has, at some point, felt the pressure of work-related stress. It is unavoidable and uncertain and with the ever changing economical, technological and legal environment the workload over organisations to cop up with updated and advanced technologies along with keeping a track of new norms and rules is increasing immensely which gets further delegated and end up to employees and workers as because they are the ones who perform operational tasks of any job. Any job can have stressful elements, even if you love what you do, and excessive stress in workplace result in lower productivity, following study is an attempt to determine and analyze the existing and potential stressors among employees. The study was conducted in five branches of Punjab national bank located in Lucknow was taken. Around 200 employees of the banks were interviewed in the process of data collection. The study concluded that employees of the selected bank are experiencing high degree of stress with respect to the dimensions of poor peer relation.

Occupational stress has become one of the global issues in the current working environment. Though the modern day organisations have succeeded in coping up with changing industry structures, their success in tackling their employees’ stress level is still a question mark. Unless employers do not try to lower their employees stress level, it will affect their organisations indirectly by various means such as increase in absenteeism, high employee turnover etc. Especially it is not good for organisations such as financial institutions where lump sum money is involved in day to day activities. Also the modernisation of the industry led to various changes in the working environment there by challenging the ability of employees to cope up with it. Due to these reasons, employees working in financial sector particularly bank employees are more prone to stress. Hence it is mandatory to study their stress levels in order to avoid negative consequences. So this paper attempts to review such studies that have been carried out in the recent past in finding out bank employees stress level. The similar studies such as study on stressors, study on how occupational stress vary with demographic factors, nature of banks, job cadres, job satisfaction and job performance etc are grouped under same captions for our easier understanding. The paper also throws light on the scope of future research work in this area and adds definitely to the existing literature. We have furthermore addressed limitations of the previous studies and have presented about our ongoing research work focus.

The extent of stress faced by skilled employees in organizations is often substantial. In several professions, stress is intrinsic to the duty itself, where competing demands, challenges and pressures escort the duty and therefore cannot be avoided. On the organizational level, stress exists in every company. The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors that contribute of to work stress among Bank Rakyat’s employees. This study also aimed to determine if there were any statistically significant differences in the respondents’ level of work stress by demographic factors (gender, status, education qualification, job position and length of service). The survey was carried out at 12 branches of Bank Rakyat in the northern region of the Malaysian Peninsula. A total 154 bank employees participated in this study. Data was collected through a 40-item questionnaire on a five-point Likert Scale. The findings of this study showed that only organizational factors had a significant i...

An individual with a career faced with various career challenges may experience work-related stress. Work related stress is a factor that threatens employees’ health. The most common negative consequences of stress are particularly the deterioration of performance and efficiency, decrease in productivity and quality of customer’s services, which results in health problems. Work-related stress is a global issue, and banks are no exception. This paper presents a survey to investigate the influencing factors on work stress in banking industry. The study designs a questionnaire and distributes it among 200 randomly selected bank department managers in city of Tehran, Iran. Using principle component analysis, the study has detected five factors including organizational characteristics, external environment, work content, personal characteristics and top management.

Research regarding stress has primarily focused on coping styles of stress by individuals rather than on the role of the work environment as a major source of stress for an employee. One such industry which has undergone massive changes over the last ten years is the banking industry. The banking industry is the most important constituent of the financial sector of any economy. thesis on stress management and work performance

Nearly half of all managers report buckling under the stress of their role and struggling to deliver.

Gartner research has found that managers today are accountable for 51% more responsibilities than they can effectively manage — and they’re starting to buckle under the pressure: 54% are suffering from work-induced stress and fatigue, and 44% are struggling to provide personalized support to their direct reports. Ultimately, one in five managers said they would prefer not being people managers given a choice. Further analysis found that 48% of managers are at risk of failure based on two criteria: 1) inconsistency in current performance and 2) lack of confidence in the manager’s ability to lead the team to future success. This article offers four predictors of manager failure and offers suggestions for organizations on how to address them.

The job of the manager has become unmanageable. Organizations are becoming flatter every year. The average manager’s number of direct reports has increased by 2.8 times over the last six years, according to Gartner research. In the past few years alone, many managers have had to make a series of pivots — from moving to remote work to overseeing hybrid teams to implementing return-to-office mandates.

Amadeus Description

Built by the famous Dynamique Yachts shipyard, and having undergone a total refit in 2018, S/Y Amadeus was designed to please the most demanding of yachtsmen. Built for smooth sailing, this elegant cutter rigged sloop has a sleek hull design, comfortably reaching top speeds of 12 knots and ensuring excellent sailing performance. S/Y Amadeus has just undergone this past winter (2018) a major refit such as total repaint top to bottom, new rigging (BSI Denmark), Novourania with new Evinrude 75hp outboard, Splash pool, new Bimini/Sprayhood/Awnings, new exterior fabrics and many other enhancements. In 2016 new “North Sails” were placed onboard. The yacht is maintained in excellent condition with a five-star crew year round. Her generous uncluttered teak deck offers plenty of space for sunbathing. The spacious and unique outdoor saloon has two tables seating upto 12 guests and is a perfect setting for outdoor dining and entertainment. Thanks to a special canopy and roll-up windows, the deck saloon has the added attraction that it can be fully enclosed, making it ideal for all weather conditions. Her forward area includes a splash pool and sun bathing area which can also be shaded with a removable awning. From the cockpit, a stairway leads to the light-filled spacious saloon offering ample seating, ideal for relaxing or enjoying a drink from the bar, and offers a formal dining area. This area also includes a LCD TV, entertainment center, ipod dock station, playstation, and is ideal for indoor activities. She can accommodate 10-12 guests in one full width master stateroom, two double bedded cabins each having one extra single bed and two twin bedded cabins which can be easily converted to double beds (upon request), thus, making her the only 5 double bedded sailboat in the Greek market. She also has a nice selection of toys which include water ski (adult and children), tubes, inflatable canoes, wakeboard, fishing rod and snorkeling gear.
