64 foot catamaran

Blue Coast 65 Sailing Catamaran

The Blue Coast 65 is a new, modern, fast and luxurious performance sailing catamaran for a smaller crew who want to enjoy worldwide cruising on all oceans.

Description

A dynamic "full-custom" design by our Naval Architect Jean-Jacques Coste, who has been recognized worldwide for his fast sailing performance multihull yachts for many years.

2 half-height helm stations provide sheltered positions. In bad weather, the yacht can be steered from the inside steering position in the saloon.

On the spacious flybridge with generous sunbathing areas and a dining area you can enjoy the sun, the steering positions can also be placed there as an option.

The very spacious main deck offers an enormously large, comfortable living area:

The forward cockpit area is directly connected to the saloon with a watertight door, the perfect place to find peace in port.

The saloon with a comfortable lounge area and a fully equipped kitchen in a U-shape is a great place to be, with a bar counter in the middle with a retractable TV.

The shaded rear terrace is larger than the saloon and is probably the most popular place to dine, relax, welcome guests and friends. An outdoor kitchen can also be accommodated there.

On the cabin deck, a spacious master suite with bath and shower, a crew or single cabin that can alternatively be set up as an office or walk-in wardrobe, 2 guest cabins and a workshop offer a high level of comfort.

The forward storage compartments provide space for the washing machine, supplies, sails and equipment.

The layout of the flybridge, main and cabin decks can also be customized to suit your requirements.

Available with traditional diesel engines or with the innovative electric hybrid system "Green ECO Power".

Design according to your ideas

The design of the BLUE COAST 65 can be adapted to your ideas as you desire in terms of number and layout of cabins, interior fittings and furnishings.

Captain Charlie & Chef Cameron Burgess Charlie grew up in Newport, Rhode Island and his love for the local beaches cultivated his affinity for the ocean at a young age. He is most at home on the water, whether it be a breezy day on the flybridge or geared up with his mask and snorkel, pointing out passing turtles and tropical fish to excited guests. Charlie is a calm presence on board, diligently maintaining his vessels and attentively caring for his guests. While Cammi also hails from Newport, she grew up on various different sailboats, most notably crossing the Pacific with her family as a pre-teen. Always attuned to her guests’ unique needs and preferences, Cammi is rarely found sitting still. Her warm smile and eagerness to please complements her meticulous attention to detail, helping her keep her yachts clean, organized, and comfortable. Cammi’s history of travel and love for a healthy, active lifestyle guides her menus, leading to colorful plates and exciting flavors, always tailored specifically to her guests. As a team, Charlie and Cammi are masters at bringing together the perfect mix of excitement, creativity, relaxation, luxury, and professionalism. With years of sailing on various private and charter yachts, and over 70 successful charters under their belts in the Virgin Islands and beyond, they draw upon a wealth of shared experience to create a unique and unforgettable charter for their guests.

“Charlie and Cammi - Thanks for an unforgettable week. The entire experience was incredible and you all went above and beyond. Still can’t believe you made Thanksgiving Dinner on a boat. The Baths, snorkeling off Cooper Island, and e-foiling were particular favorites. If you ever decide to quit the boat life, a cookbook and cocktail book would be bestsellers. We will have a standing reservation at the restaurant. The Allure certainly lived up to its billing and is without a doubt the best looking boat in every bay we visited. Hopefully we will be on the boat again, but if you’re ever in Connecticut, give us a call!

Collection of guest reviews from previous yacht -Cammi and Charlie Great Adventure & Scuba Doo 50 2019-2022

July 2022 USVI Charter Cammi and Charlie, I dreamt about taking this trip for 30 years. Thank you for delivering an experience that exceeded all of those dreams and expectations. Your patience care and intuition make you both exceptional hosts and exceptional humans. I look forward to following you on your future adventures wherever they take you. Infinite Thanks Avella July 2022 USVI Charter Cammi and Charlie, Thank you, Thank you, thank you! Our week with you on Scuba Doo exceeded all our expectations and created so many family memories! The snorkeling, sailing, Food, and hiking were all amazing. We hope to come back and hope our paths will cross with the two of you again! :) Thank you -Katie Cammi and Charlie, Thank you so much for a phenomenal week! We had an amazing time. Seriously the best cooking I have ever had. Before this trip I would not have said I was a bona fide ocean explorer, but Charlie´s snorkeling passion was infectious, and now I would call myself a snorkeling super fan. You guys are the best! Wishing you the best in your adventures and eventual dog ownership. -Savannah Cammi and Charlie, They say that the most valuable asset you can acquire is not tangible things but lifelong memories. As you can see from the above, you have given our family just that. Memories that will last a lifetime. For that we thank you so much-it was an amazing week!!! -Your explorers June 2022 USVI Charter Cammi and Charlie, First of all, ´Thank you´ will never be able to describe how grateful our entire group is for this pas week. With that being said... THANK YOU!! Cammi, Your work ethic and desire to make everything perfect is incredible. Every meal was incredible-delicious, beautiful, filling, awesome! The running joke is that we were never hungry on this trip. We probably ate less this week than we normally do and that was because every meal was perfect. You were also patient, flexible, and understanding with us. Thank you!! Charlie, You are the man! You taught us more about boats, sailing, snorkeling, diving, and reef/sea creatures than we could ever learn in a lifetime. We also asked more questions than we could in a lifetime and you answered every one. I´m still not sure when you were bullshitting us... so I´m going to go with the fact that you just know way to much. thank you for putting up with our shenanigans. Thank you!!

Christmas 2022 BVI

Our charter experience on Allure was fantastic. Rich & Lisa were top-notch in every way and simply really good people. Wonderful all around!! Happy 2023! Best, Matt B

Wow! What an incredible way to celebrate our 50th birthday! A trip we will not soon forget!

Having sailed the BVIs in 2020, when we decided to go again to celebrate our birthdays. When we decided to return to the BVIs for our birthday celebration, we had high expectations as our first trip in 2020 was wonderful! Those expectations were instantly exceeded the minute we stepped aboard Allure and met our crew, Rich and Lisa. Allure is a beautiful catamaran! A new boat that was clean and modern. Perfect size for 6 guests plus 2 crew. The common spaces were comfortable, spacious and welcoming. The cabins were also spacious, and beds were very comfortable. Plenty of room for personal items and privacy! Exceptional amenities on the boat of Wifi, paddleboarding, snorkeling, AC, sunning on deck, and enjoying the sail. Allure was a dream! Our crew, Rich and Lisa, are clearly the best in the business! Rich, an extremely skilled and knowledgeable captain, knows the BVIs and the boat, like the back of his hand. He knew when and where to take us for the best sailing, beaches and sunsets. We loved sailing and always felt safe. Really loved seeing dolphins swim and race with the boat as we sailed. Rich was also the chef with many years of experience. His food was exceptional and delicious! Full meals for breakfast, lunch, ´snack´ (ie happy hour), dinner and dessert! Every meal different. He accommodated our every need and request! We always felt full and satisfied! Amazing! Lisa was the most perfect first mate and provided exceptional customer service! She made us feel at home from the very first day on Allure! She made sure that we had the best day, every day. She was attentive to our every need, making sure that we were happy and satisfied every minute! She kept our rooms tidy and clean, made us some delicious cocktails, helped with our snorkel gear and paddle boards, hung up our wet clothes and towels to dry, advised us on activities and made reservations on some of the islands, escorted us on a few sites on the islands, transported us in the dinghy to the islands, took group pictures for us....the list goes on and on. To say we were pampered and spoiled is an understatement! We decided to designate one of our days on the boat to be our ´birthday´ day... we woke up to decorations on the boat, special drinks and dinner and ended the day with sparklers on a birthday cake!!! They provided such personalized care and service to each one of us! They made us feel very special! Truly wonderful people! Both Rich and Lisa enhanced our experience on Allure and made our celebration trip simply amazing and one that we will never forget! Take good care! Please wish Lisa and Rich all the best on their new adventure! Sibyl H., Colorado Thanksgiving 2022

May 2022 - BVI

We have no words! All the superlatives just do no justice to the most incredible 2 week adventure ever! We wanted secluded, quiet beaches and coves, we wanted to use every feature of this great yacht Allure, to explore the BVI in safety and style. You all exceeded every expectation we had! Capt Scott you are an amazing sailor, able to take us to wonderful places while telling us all about the history and legends of the BVI. We chose to dine on the boat and we were glad we did! Niki cooks everything with love and perfection! Who know hot cookies and ice cream made on the boat could be so good! Dan, you are the perfect complement to Capt. Scott and Niki and we wish you all the best sailing and fair winds in your futures! Hugs Mike and Susie

April 2022 - BVI

Our second vacation on Allure and it couldn´t have been more spectacular! The first week with great friends, lots of great food, laughs and making special memories. Our second week went by even faster! We were threated with the best care anyone could not wish for better. The trip with my kids was like a dream come true. No stress of having to feed and tend to them was wonderful. Being able to be present and check in with each of my kids and also make special memories was priceless. Thank you, Thank you Thank you! Last but not least the tour of the BVIs was breathtaking. The views and the people are beautiful! Thank you for the tender loving care Scott, Niki and Dan! Best wishes Kathie and Mike

What an amazing trip this has been! Allure is truly the most beautiful and well kept boat in the BVI and you all must be the most incredible crew. Thank you for making this vacation one for the record books and becoming a part of our family for the past week. Every stop, every meal, every day was filled with nothing but adventures, laughs and smiles. We cannot wait to come back to see more of the BVI (specially more pirate shows) with all of you. Your attentiveness and bright smiles will be sorely missed when we return home, and I don´t know what we are going to do without Niki´s cooking!! Thank you, thank you thank you again from the bottom of our hearts Cheers to more adventures Isabella, Chris, Joe

What a beautiful boat in a truly gorgeous part of the world. It has been amazing and memorable week is no small part to you Scott, Niki and Dan. Thank you a thousand times for taking such great care of us, keeping us smiling, safe and extremely well fed. Each of you were as incredible as these wonderful islands. Hope to see you again soon. Garry

This was our first sailing charter and we fear we are spoiled for life! Allure is a beautiful boat – from her well appointed staterooms to her various lounge areas and teak decking. We alternated between the aft deck and the forward netting “hammocks” each evening. Our crew for the week Scott, Niki and Danielle were superb! They anticipated every need, wish, desire – staying a step ahead of us. Niki is a master chef – so creative and resourceful! Captain Scott kept us safe and served as tour guide – regaling us with local legends and island color. Our stew Danielle couldn’t have been better. Even beyond her duties she was kind, friendly and a perfect addition. It is with great sadness that we depart today. But we take with us full bellies, tanned legs and memories to last a lifetime. The BVIs are the most exquisite chain of islands full of lovely people and great adventures! Until next time…B.V. and Daniel

This was the trip of a lifetime. Amazing Scott, Niki and Dan took great care of us and allowed us to see the best parts of the BVIs. The food was amazing and creative. Of course our company guests were a part of making this trip so memorable. We will have these memories for the rest of lives and I will tall all of blame! Best wishes, Sammy and Tracey

Wow! Our trip through the BVIs on Allure was an absolute dream come true, a trip of a lifetime! Every day was a magical adventure. We felt safe, well taken care of und especially well fed! Everything about Allure is just beautiful and that includes the crew, the most fantastic crew we could have asked for. Without you three this trip would not have been the same. Thank you so much for your excellent service, showing us all the best spots, making us feel special (shoutout for Dan for doing the ladies hair for dinner) and just all your hard work in general. Mitch and I will most definitely be coming back to the BVIs and we will only settle with having you three take care of us. Thanks again Mitch and Angie

To our favorite Captain, Chef and Stew.. Yáll did it again… what an amazing week you have given us. From the beautiful boat, amazing meals, awesome playlists, sensational happy hours – the list goes on! Your top-notch service made our trip unforgettable. Tandem Charter BVi March 2022

As you know we planned this trip with our friends 4 years ago, as a chance for our families to be together. We have sailed together a few times, but the kids really wanted to do a trip to the BVIs. From the moment we met the three of you on the dock in Tortola, we knew we were in the best hands. The Allure is so clean, elegant and sleek- and comfortable. July 2021 - Antigua

We sailed on the Allure around Antigua with Captain Scott and Chef Niki and Stewardess Laura. We were a party of 6, 3 couples, and had no expectations. I mean what could you possibly expect having never sailed nor spent 5 days on a boat? We knew it would be fun, luxurious and an experience of a lifetime, but the trip far exceeded everyone´s expectations. It was the most incredible journey. From the second we boarded the boat, we felt at home, comfortable and were treated like kings and queens. The accommodations were outstanding, as the boat is modern, clean, well laid out, roomy and very comfortable. The was food delicious, every meal was well thought out and a culinary journey. Niki is a master in the kitchen, not sure how she does it with just a kitchen on a boat, but you would think she was working with a full restaurant set up. The service was impeccable. All 3 of them made it their priority to wait on us at all times, but never too pushy or uncomfortable and always striking the right balance in giving us the personal time we wanted and of course getting to all know one another. At the end of every night Scott would spend the time with us to figure out what we wanted to do the next day, always offering suggestions with great ideas on how to make the most out of our time together and the wonderful island of Antigua. When we departed we were a bit sad to leave our new friends, but we know the memories of this trip will last a lifetime! Thanks Scott, Niki and Laura for a wonderful experience! We loved every minute and will certainly be back to do it again! Until then, ´To Absent Friends & Those At Sea´

June 2021 - Antigua

We are so appreciative for our beautiful and perfect vacation. Everything was above and beyond and we are so thankful. Thank you Thank you Thank you. During our stay onboard we booked again and are bringing our three boys. We all are already looking forward to that trip! Niki´s care and attention to details from food to anything else we may need was exceptional. Watching two captain compare notes all week were very special. Captain Scott and Captain Mike are looking forward to sailing again, Best wishes Kathie and Mike

March 2021 - Spring Break Antigua

Our family had the absolute pleasure of being aboard Allure for spring break. We couldn´t have asked for a better crew than Captain Scott, Chef Niki and Ellie, which ended up feeling more like family. Captain Scott traveled the waters of Antigua with such expertise and skill and we learned a bit of sailing. Chef Niki created beautiful dishes that our whole family thoroughly enjoyed (even our pickiest eater). Ellie made sure that all of us were taken care of at all times – we all felt truly at ease and pampered during our week. We cannot wait to come back on Allure! We all have the fondest memories of our time together. Love Shervin, Georgette, Stella and Zane

Antigua Feb2021

The experience aboard Allure was impeccable in every way. From the moment we stepped on Allure it was like being welcomed home. The Crew, the food and the luxurious detail has far exceeded our expectations. The ocean is its own language but we were gifted transition through the crew with their knowledge and experience. We felt as wild and free as the wind that carried our laughter! We are made greater for having experienced this adventure, where we were gifted time to quiet the noise , linger longer and soak in the salty air. There are glimpses of heaven on earth and this experience on Allure was one of them. The adventures we take we do not just remember, they form a part of our story and this one will be long remembered after the bags are unpacked and our sun-kissed skins fade. Until next time with gratitude The Albrights and the Smrts

Antigua Sailing on Allure- What a gift!

From the moment we stepped on Allure we were in AWE! It’s hard to describe something indescribable or even capture photos to show the magic of this adventure. So instead we spent every moment being present, soaking in the turquoise water, the warm breeze that carried Allure’s sails and our laughter. We sat and celebrated the golden sunset over the water everyday, toasting to friendship, adventures and blessings. Every meal made was a work of art from the chef, followed by dessert and games, dancing or star gazing. There are places in Antigua that are a piece of Heaven on earth & being on Allure was one of them. An unforgettable experience. We will forever be grateful and arrive home having made some of the most incredible memories we’ve ever made together! What a gift!!! Jim, Jacque, Ryan and Renee

St Maarten/St Barth a great experience

There are no words to describe our experience. The crew are remarkable! Captain Pierre was constantly attentive to any of our requests. From sailing between islands to mooring in beautiful bays for snorkeling and paddle boarding. Pierre’s expertise in mixology was much appreciated by all of us! Chef Desree was remarkable. Never have we had this level of cuisine. Every meal was truly a piece of art and we are going home with some extra weight under our belts! Ellie was the steward that brought the whole experience of the trip just that much more enjoyable. The whole crew feel like family and we can´t wait to see them again. Last but not least, THE ALLURE!!! A stunning piece of art. She sails so smooth and is very classy. The owners thought of everything when designing this beautiful yacht. Sure you can go to shore but we loved being on the boat. Can´t wait to return Murray, Patty, Rob, Karen

New Years Charter on Allure

It was an amazing experience that exceeded our expectations. The crew made the trip exceptional – Pierre kept us safe and ever sensitive to making sure we were optimizing where and when to go, balanced against the weather. Desree went out of her way to make sure we were well taken care of and is a world-class chef, that prepared us delicious dishes the entire trip. Ellie was always very helpful, polite, and attentive to our every need. The entire crew worked together seamlessly, and we enjoyed their service as well as their company. They were able to predict what we would want/need and were lovely to chat with. The boat was brand new and we were the first people to charter the boat. Amazing boat and the crew made a very memorable vacation for us. Matthew, Sue, Harry, Kim, Brian and Angel

Reviews from Scott and Niki on their former yachts

We were so fortunate to have Scott & Niki as our captain and chef. They make an amazing team and truly provided us with the vacation of a lifetime. When we go back to the BVI, we will not charter a boat with another crew other than Scott and Niki. They became like family during this past week and helped us make such fond memories, ones we will never forget. We were all blown away by their commitment to service. I’m sure you will receive similar emails from the other two couples as well. Should you have any prospective guests that may be on the fence regarding a charter, please feel free to give them my contact information. Also, please feel free to share any parts of this email as a recommendation for their services. I truly can’t imagine another crew anywhere topping the vacation we just experienced. Hydrogen propulsion still has a ways to go in the marine industry, but don’t tell that to Fraser Yachts . The yachting company, which handles everything from chartering to new builds, has just unveiled a new catamaran powered by the eco-friendly fuel alternative.

Meet Aquon One . The futuristic new multihull, which is set for delivery in 2023, is designed to be an environmentally friendly boat that combines modern comforts with innovative green technologies for sustainable cruising sans noise and emissions.

Penned by Christian Grande , the “pocket superyacht” will be fitted with just shy of 700 square feet of solar panels on the flybridge roof. This will allow the cat to harness its own renewable energy, which will then be used to create hydrogen via fuel cells to power the two electric motors and the onboard amenities. Small lithium-ion batteries can store electricity in the short term, while carbon tanks can hold it long term.

Fraser says the 64-footer, which has an estimated top speed of 16 knots, will be able to cruise off-grid for several days. She’ll also have a virtually unlimited range, giving those aboard unprecedented independence at sea.

The eco-friendly ethos also carries through to the interior. Spread across more than 1,000 square feet, the upscale living quarters showcase a range of sustainable materials, such as light bamboo and recycled leather. It’s a smart yacht, too, meaning all the LED lights can be controlled from your phone.

As for the layout, the main deck is home to a large living area and dining room, while the lower deck is dedicated to the guest cabins. With space for up to eight seafarers, you can opt for two, three or four staterooms that can be customized with different sized beds and ensuites.

Outdoors, meanwhile, the terrace to the aft offers a dining table, sun lounge and direct access to the ocean. At the other end, the foredeck sports another sizable lounge for entertaining. Above, the flybridge comes equipped with a dining area for 12, along with a bar and grill.

Aquon One will be built by Latitude Yachts . According to Fraser, the full-service shipyard, which is behind some of the world’s largest luxury trimarans, will ensure the cat is finished within two years. The hydrogen-powered vessel is priced at €6 million (about $7 million at current exchange).

First voyage on the solar electric SILENT 60 yacht

Avatar for Scooter Doll

After previously following and reporting on Silent Yachts , the solar-electric boat maker invited me down to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to experience a cruise on the vessel for myself. The SILENT 60 yacht is a solar electric catamaran that represents the future of zero-emissions maritime travel and a mere stepping stone to the more advanced vessels Silent Yachts is already developing next.

For those of you unfamiliar, Silent Yachts was founded by Heike and Michael Köhle, who together have sailed over 75,000 nautical miles around the world. Following their extensive travels at sea, the founders decided there had to be a better way to propel yachts with clean energy.

Their research into solar yacht technologies began in 2004, kicking off five years of gathering sailing data  before constructing the company’s first fully self-sufficient  solar-powered catamaran , the Solarwave 46.

After a five-year trial at sea that began in 2010, Silent Yachts had a proven solar yacht concept, and began serial production of luxury sustainable vessels in 2016 with the SILENT 64. By 2018, The SILENT 64 had become the first serial-production  solar-powered bluewater catamaran  to cross the Atlantic, from Cartagena, Spain, to Barbados in 16 days.

In 2021, Silent Yachts launched the SILENT 60 yacht as a more powerful, revamped generation of its 64-foot predecessor. After accepting and invite from Silent Yachts to climb aboard the SILENT 60, I learned much more about the solar electric catamaran firsthand, in addition to what the company has in store next.

A (quick) trip aboard the SILENT 60 yacht

Following a quick visit to Silent Yacht’s North American office in south Florida, a couple of other writers and I were invited aboard the SILENT 60 – Silent Yachts 60-foot yacht mentioned above. Two things were particularly interesting about this voyage.

First, I was planning to be at sea all day, but that unfortunately was not the case. It was a trip just over an hour, but certainly enough time to explore the solar electric yacht and enjoy some time in the Florida sun cruising without any emissions.

Another interesting facet to this trip was that we were onboard with several potential customers as well. At a starting price of just over $2.75 million, it’s easy to imagine the level of affluence onboard, and since there were no real introductions, I used it as an opportunity to rub elbows with my ultra-wealthy deck mates.

At one point, one of the potential customers came up to me and asked if I was going to buy one. As a lowly writer no stranger to economy class flights, I naturally said “I’m seriously considering it, but I think I may go bigger.” That customer told me he was going to pull the trigger that day, and two other clients onboard also verbally committed to purchases and did in fact plan to go bigger.

This offers a testament to the quality and luxury of the SILENT 60 electric yacht – just 30 minutes aboard is all it takes to sell itself… as long as you have millions upon millions of dollars. I mean, the tax alone! The vessel we rode aboard had five bed across four separate cabins. Have a look at some of the interior images below.

64 foot catamaran

Can this solar electric yacht perform? A look ahead

When we first untied and shoved off, it was amazing to experience how quiet the electric yacht was. I personally think this is a huge selling point for potential customers if you can get them on the water.

We were aboard the original two-deck version of the SILENT 60 yacht, which has since been replaced by the SILENT 62 three-deck option , based on the fact that a majority of customers favored the third deck. While our solar electric catamaran didn’t have the wing sail we covered when it debuted, it still had plenty of cool electrified specs to offer.

  • Note this propulsion option is no longer offered, you can go bigger or smaller
  • 225 kWh battery bank equipped with lithium-ion NMC cells
  • According to Silent Yachts brand ambassador Kyle Miller, the combustion generator had not been turned on once since the vessel arrived in the US
  • The upcoming SILENT 80 will have a 26 kWp array
  • The rear deck can be raised and lowered to hold a dingy or become a swim platform

Truthfully, the SILENT 60 I got to ride upon offers clean quiet energy in the utmost form of luxury, but Silent Yachts isn’t the only one doing it. That being said, the electric yacht builder appears to be growing at a quick rate, especially in terms of innovation. Selling your products for multimillions probably helps with the R&D budget too.

Many of the features and customizations I was able to see up close on the SILENT 60 have already been improved and implemented on newer, upcoming electric yacht models. I already mentioned the three-deck layout, which can be assembled to multiple forms of open or closed walls depending on customer preference.

Silent Yachts is also going longer in its maritime range of available options. However, some of those larger vessels will be hybrid models to haul the larger ships, so that’s not much interest to me. What is of interest however are some of the new technologies Kyle Miller teased me with.

Silent Yachts is working on developing its own electric dingy which will sit on the rear deck of the SILENT 62 and in the hull of the SILENT 80. Other technologies mentioned were the possibility of liquid cooled batteries, and bi-directional charging.

The boat maker announced Silent Resorts earlier this year, focused on zero-carbon fully sustainable destinations for the electric yachts to venture to. Silent Yachts plans to use its all electric catamarans like the SILENT 60 yacht to help power the buildings, beginning in the Bahamas. Sign me up for that visit.

All in all, it was an interesting trip and I would love another chance to climb aboard one of Silent Yacht’s newer vessels – they clearly have plenty in their pipeline. Until then.

Average Cost of Buying & Owning a Catamaran (With 4 Examples)

Turns out that owning a catamaran is pretty affordable. Not cheap, but it can absolutely be done on a budget. In this article, I'll show you what to expect.

Sure, there are plenty of unimaginably expensive catamarans available, but a modest, used open catamaran can be as cheap as $6,000 and an additional $1,000 per year.

A new catamaran costs $144,000 on average at 30 foot, while a used one will cost between $29,000-$134,000 on average. New catamarans cost $751,000 at 50 foot, while a used one ranges from $203,000-$690,000. The average annual cost ranges from $2,805-$10,950.

Of course the price of a catamarans depends on many factors, like the size for example, and your choices determine whether owning one is a rich man's game, or actually a very good holiday investment.

It may come as a surprise that you can get a decent 34-foot catamaran for as little as $25,500 on Craigslist.

This will be a long article because there are so any aspects to cover. I'd like to spend some time exploring the costs of actually buying the boat . Then I want to go into recurring costs , like mooring, maintenance, and insurance.

Cost of buying a sailboat

If you're also eager to find out what regular sailboats cost on average, I have published a very similar article on that topic. Sailboats are a lot more affordable than catamarans, so if these numbers startle you, you could check out the cost of regular monohulls .

But first, to get a good sense of the ballpark amounts, I'll give some real-life price examples, like:

  • what does it cost if you want to keep your cat in good shape and have a good sailing experience? - aka: most people
  • what does it cost if you ONLY spend the absolute minimum amount to keep her floating?
  • if I want to sail the world on a budget, what's the absolute minimum?
  • if sailing is more of a status thing to you, how much money COULD you spend?

64 foot catamaran

On this page:

Examples of popular catamarans and how much they cost, what does it cost to buy a catamaran, what does it cost to own a catamaran, catamarans are 60% more expensive than monohulls.

There are a lot of great boats out there for a good price and there are also some boats that are so expensive (or so cheap), it's not even fun to look at them.

But one thing's for sure: there are plenty of boats available, and even if you're on a very tight budget, you could absolutely still make it work. Sailing is in and of itself actually not that expensive: wind is free, water is free, boats can be cheap - if you're willing to look around a bit. It's all the little extras that add up quickly.

Listed below are four boats that make great beginner boats. Since more than 80% of all boats that are bought are second-hand, I'll use the prices of used boats I found on Craigslist and Yachtworld.

If you want to know exactly where the numbers come from, don't worry, I'll explain them after the four examples.

64 foot catamaran

1. Sea Cat 226DC 22' for stressless weekends on the lake

Boat: Sea Cat 226DC 2007 22 foot The one-time costs are $53,615 Your total recurring costs are $9,510 per year, or $793 per month

Let's say you're like me and most other people and just want a nice cat without too much hassle. So you pay people for any important maintenance that's not easy to do yourself. You do the required maintenance and save up for future repairs. You do a little yourself, which saves you a couple of hundred of bucks a year. You also join a (cheap) sailing club to learn how to not trash the boat. You don't want to buy a bad boat, so you pay a fair purchase price.

One-Time Costs

Recurring costs.

2. Extreme Low Budget Kantola Mach II 35'

Boat: Kantola Mach II 1968 35 foot The one-time costs are $26,440 Your total recurring costs are $2,805 per year, or $234 per month

Let's say, for argument's sake, you want to buy the cheapest cat you can, saving as much money as possible on repairs and annual costs. How cheap could you theoretically go without ending up with a trasher?

I think something like this old but sturdy Kantola Mach II will be right for you. It will save you massively on the purchase price. However, beware, you'll have to antifoul the boat next fall, which will cost you (roughly $2,000). It's common with very cheap boats: upcoming maintenance. But if the current owner is fair and discloses it, you may get a good deal.

In this case, you won't join any clubs. You'll simply do the most important maintenance to keep the boat from falling apart, find a nice mooring place in a far-away (cheap) location, and sail along quietly and affordably.

64 foot catamaran

3. Low Budget 35' Cruising Catamaran for traveling the world

Boat: Gemini 105 1996 Cruising Catamaran 35 foot The one-time costs are $85,850 Your total recurring costs are $10,950 per year, or $913 per month

Let's see what it would take to get a good bluewater cat with all the features you'll need to sail across the world on a budget. In this scenario, you buy a fairly priced, not too old cat that is ready to cruise. Something like this Gemini 105 1996 will do.

Not too long, but comfortable enough for extended onboard time, reducing length will greatly reduce cost as well. With boats, you pay per foot, both in maintenance, fuel, and docking costs.

You don't join a sailing club, reserve quite a bit of change for your maintenance fund (since you'll be bluewater sailing), but you don't need to winterize the boat, as you'll simply sail to the Bahamas and stay in the warm waters there. Or at least, that's what I'd do.

Your mooring costs will be somewhat higher, sailing to and from more popular destination, but your overall monthly cost won't exceed your monthly mortgage or rent payments, and you could permanently live onboard without problems.

You'd need an ICC (International Certificate of Competence) to be able to cross all international waters. You can learn how to get your certificate here .

64 foot catamaran

4. Luxury 52' Cruising Catamaran

Boat: Shuttleworth AeroRig 2022 52 foot The one-time costs are $2,326,020 Your total recurring costs are $53,400 per year, or $4,450 per month

So what if you're in it for the fame? Well, don't worry, there are many status symbols to be had and there is plenty of cash to be burned.

In this case, we buy a new cat of 52 foot, which is not overly decadent, but it's a real piece of gear nonetheless. This Shuttleworth AeroRig comes equipped with all the comfort and luxury you'll need for extended cruising in style.

Of course, you'll pay for joining a decent club, since that's where you can show off your rig. We'll also invest something extra into equipment, regardless of the full electronic rig that comes with the boat.

The annual costs will be high due to mooring fees, the club, and pretty hefty winter storage fees that come with a boat this large.

Unlike monohull sailboats, the price difference between new and second-hand catamarans isn't as great. Regular used sailboats go at a 65-75% discount, while the discount for an average used catamaran is just 10% .

The price difference becomes more noticeable the larger you go, with second-hand catamarans of over 75 foot going at a 35% discount , but that's as high as it gets.

Size and condition affect price the most

There are a couple of important factors that determine how much money you end up spending.

  • Size - length determines mooring costs, insurance, amount of paint on your hull: literally everything gets more expensive with every foot of length
  • New vs. used - of course, it makes all the difference whether you buy new or used. Typically, the price of a 35-foot used catamaran vs. a comparable new one is 10% lower (ie. $237,714 vs. $261,286).

Price of new catamarans

The price of new catamarans ranges from roughly $1,765 - $54,491 per foot. An average length catamaran costs between $144,000 and $505,000 (30 - 45 foot). Some go for as low as $42,000 to as high as $924,000.

I've looked at the prices of thousands of catamarans (really) on one of the largest yacht marketplaces in the world (- not manually, don't worry: with the help of their search function). This is what I came up with:

Average price new catamaran per foot in USD:

Catamarans get a lot more expensive from 50 foot and up:

  • under 30 ft: $2,835 per ft
  • 30 - 50 ft: $9,767 per ft
  • 50 - 75 ft: $18,055 per ft
  • 75 - 120 ft: $41,737 per ft

Price jumps at these boat lengths

As we can see from the data above, the average price per foot drastically increases for new boats at the following lengths: 25 foot, 35 foot, 40 foot, 60 foot, 75 foot, and 100 foot . Buy just under these lengths to get the most boat for you buck.

Price of used catamarans

The price of second-hand catamarans ranges from roughly $756 - $39,909 per foot. An average length catamaran costs between $134,000 to $467,000 (30-45 foot) on the second-hand market. Some go for as low as $29,000 to as high as $848,000.

We did the same for used catamarans, comparing thousands of listings. Here are the complete data:

Average price used catamaran per foot in USD:

On average, second-hand catamarans go at 35% less of the cost of a new boat:

  • under 30 ft: $2,236 per ft
  • 30 - 50 ft: $9,021 per ft
  • 50 - 75 ft: $16,204 per ft
  • 75 - 120 ft: $30,945 per ft

Purchasing price used catamarans

If this is too much for you, you could always rent a boat instead. I recommend chartering. You can get great catamarans at great prices. Check out my charter recommendation here .

As we can see from the data above, the average price per foot drastically increases for second-hand boats at the following lengths: 25 foot, 40 foot, 55 foot, 75 foot, and 100 foot . Buy just under these lengths to get the most boat for you buck.

64 foot catamaran

To get an average of the price of a used sailboat, I went over to Craigslist. I took the first 10 relevant search results for sailboats under, and over 30 feet.

Of course, the averages here are very speculative, as prices vary from day to day. But it gives a broad range of what to expect.

Over 50 feet, listings become meagre. I believe people tend to not place their 80-ft catamaran on Craigslist, but sell it through a broker instead. So I've kept used yachts over 50 feet out of the picture for now.

This is what I found on Craigslist:

Source: Craigslist , Q2 2022

I've calculated the median price, not the average. The median is the price that's most common within the price range. This way the highest and lowest prices don't have as much impact.

The average Craigslist price-per-foot of a used catamaran:

So let's take a quick look at the costs for owning a sailboat.

One-time costs:

  • Registration : costs of registration differ per state, but usually run anywhere from $3 - $10 per foot.
  • Taxes : differs per state and country. Most governments want you to pay property tax and sales tax. Sales tax is usually about 5%. Property tax varies and is more complex, so I'll leave that up to you to figure out.
  • Sailing club initiation fee : $1,500 - $4,000

Recurring costs:

  • Mooring : $20-30 per foot per year (can be much higher for prime locations)
  • Insurance : typically 1.5% of the total value of the boat. So a $100,000 30' cruiser will cost $1,500.
  • Maintenance : a good rule of thumb is 10% of the boat value. Expect to spend anywhere between $1,000 - $5,000 per year for small to mid-sized boats.
  • Fuel : depends on how much you use the boat and the engine, but on average something between $100 - $150.
  • International License : if you want to sail on international waters, you have to get your ICC (International Certificate of Competence. Plan on spending anywhere between 400 to 500 dollars.
  • Safety equipment : plan on spending anywhere between 150 to 600 bucks for lifejackets, first aid kit, and distress signals.
  • Winterize boat : $4,000
  • Sailing club: $800 - $1,500

Maintenance cost

Your average maintenance cost will be roughly $144 dollars per month for boats under 30', or just under $2,000 per year.

Maintainance involves a lot of hidden costs We took an in-depth look at everything . The result is a comprehensive article that lays it all out for new boat owners. Read all about maintenance costs

Gas engines run for about 1,500 hours, diesel engines run for 5,000. After that, you'll need to change them out.

A standard 15HP or 20HP outboard gas engine will cost you about $5,000 - $6,000 and needs replacing every 20 years or so. If you do the work yourself, it's more something like $1,000 - $1,500.

A smaller engine uses less fuel, reducing your total cost You can actually use a pretty small engine for most sailboats. To learn how small (and efficient) you can go, I've written a guide on how to calculate it yourself. Read all about outboard engine size

Replacing the sails and rigging

Most people that own a sailboat will have to replace the sails and rigging at least once in their lifetime. Replacing the mast is uncommon, but if you're unlucky and get demasted, it will need to be fixed. So I've added it to the "be aware this might happen" list - but won't add it to the monthly recurring costs.

If you need to replace the mast and boom, prepare to spend anywhere between $15,000 - $25,000.

I won't go into detail, but I have written a detailed article about the exact cost of new sails . It's a really helpful post if you want to know what to expect.

Good quality cruising sails will need to be replaced every 10 years or so.

The cost of new sails is on average:

  • 26' Bermuda Sloop rig will cost you about $1,000 - $2,500.
  • 34' Bermuda Sloop rig will cost you about $3,000 - $5,000.

The cost of the new rigging is on average:

  • Standing rigging - every 10 years at $4,000
  • Running rigging - every 5-10 years at $5,000

Underside of catamaran hulls

Bottom Paint

Another important cost will be antifouling, or bottom paint. The cost of antifouling is between $20 and $45 per foot . Since a catamaran has two hulls, it will cost roughly twice as much.

  • Cost of antifouling a 40-foot yacht is $1,300
  • Cost of antifouling a 40-foot catamaran is $2,600

Depending on the usage, you may want to antifoul yearly of bi-yearly, making this a pretty substantial expense: $1,300 to $2,600 of additional annual maintenance costs .

Replacing safety equipment

USCG safety regulations require you to replace safety gear regularly.

  • Lifejackets have to be replaced every 10 years.
  • Flares have to be replaced every 42 months. You could consider buying a LED electric distress light instead, which will last you a lifetime.
  • If you carry a life-raft you'll need to replace that every 12 years as well.

Adhering to the minimum safety requirements shouldn't cost you more than $150-$250 every 5 years. However, if you want the good stuff, or need more fire extinguishers, plan on spending more like $600. If you want a life raft, that's another $1,500.

To avoid you have to go cheap on your safety gear, I've put it in the budget for $500.

If you want to know exactly what the USCG safety requirements are, including checklists , definitely check out my article here.

Winterizing your boat

Winterization is an often overlooked cost, but it can be one of the largest expenses each year. If you're like me, and not so lucky to live in Florida, you need to winterize your boat.

Failing to winterize it will increase your maintenance cost over time, as the engine wears out more quickly, and your plumbing and equipment will fall apart. Winter storms and ice can damage the hull and mast as well. It's the best way to protect your boat in wintertime, period.

It consists of two parts:

  • Winterizing - costs $1,000 to $2,000 - This is the preparation for winter storage. You flush the cooling system with anti-freeze, and the boat gets wrapped in a shrink wrap cover.
  • Winter storage - costs $100 per ft on average for catamarans (double the regular fee).

Other maintenance costs

  • Batteries: deep cycle batteries need replacing every 4-6 years at $600
  • Deck hardware: every 20-30 years (bullseyes, tiller, eye straps) at $3,000

Joining a Sailing Club

If you're new to sailing, you might want to consider joining a sailboat club. This might help you to get tips, make friends, and learn in a safe environment. Most clubs also organize races, which are a great way to quickly improve your sailing skills.

But it comes at a cost. Sailing clubs are very expensive.

  • Initiation fees range anywhere between $1,000 - $4,000. But that's not all.
  • Then there's an annual fee of $500 - $1,000 per year. And lot's of additional fees: for dining, lockers, etc.

If you're willing to skip Christmas, go for it.

I've already referred to my guide on the average sailboat cost, which covers the same costs of purchasing and ownership as this article, but for monohulls.

Comparing the two, we can safely conclude that catamarans are way more expensive than monohulls. On every point, you'll pay more per foot for cats, both in the purchase and the upkeep.

On average, catamarans are roughly 60% more expensive than comparable monohulls. But there are exceptions.

To get the exact difference in price between monohulls and catamarans, I've done a in-depth comparison of the data. This gives us a detailed overview of the price difference for different boat lengths, both for new and second-hand boats.

If you want to learn about the price differences, and explore if there's a sweet spot of owning a catamaran for you, I really recommend reading my cost comparison of monohulls vs. catamarans next .

64-Foot 'AQUON One' Catamaran Becomes First Yacht with Unlimited Range Capability

AQUON One hydrogen catamaran

The first large-scale hydrogen-powered catamaran has been commissioned.

The Swiss Sustainable Yachts AG has just sold the first unit of their AQUON One model - a 64-foot catamaran that utilizes a unique combination of solar, electric, and hydrogen power. The design was unveiled in late 2021, but has just announced its first sale.

The announcement comes shortly after Lürssen launched the world's first hydrogen-powered superyacht in March.

The luxury catamaran is designed to have unlimited range thanks to its ability to generate power from three inter-connected sources.

The AQUON One carries 64 square metres (688 sq ft) of solar panels on its roof, which in turn feed electricity into the Lithium-ion batteries inside its hull structure.

From there, there are both short term and long term uses for the stored power. For short term applications, the electricity goes directly to the onboard Lithium-ion batteries. Components like the electric motors in the pontoons, the grill in the galley, or the A/C unit, can immediately access this power. For long term applications, excess solar energy is used to convert desalinated sea water into green hydrogen (H2) gas. The gas is compressed and stored in carbon tanks so it can be utilized when the boat isn't generating power from the sun. When more energy is needed, the fuel cells convert the stored hydrogen back into electricity -- creating an endless loop that ensures the boat always has power. The company claims the hydrogen system can store 100 times more energy than a modern battery system.

There is a growing trend amongst yacht builders to focus on hydrogen due to its storage capability and zero emission production. With respect to the AQUON One, excess hydrogen can be stored for months at a time -- far more than the storage capability Lithium-ion batteries -- meaning the boat always has access to power even after long stretches of inactivity like during off-season storage.

According to designer Christian Grande, “AQUON One is made for living. It is a loft at sea without compromise. We have imagined a place to enjoy the moment, to spend quiet time away from the rush and with loved ones. The design itself was inspired by silence and the elegance of a manta ray, creating a feeling of harmony and ease.”

Described as a "pocket superyacht" the AQUON One boasts more than 1,000 square feet of living space over a 9.5 m (31 ft) beam. Sustainable materials are used throughout, including bamboo and recycled leather, and its 'smart' electronics system allows the operation of things like LED lights via a mobile app. Other amenities include a smart fridge, double sink, dishwasher, washing machine, and dryer. The expansive layout also accommodates up to 8 guests in a 4-stateroom arrangement, but it can also be configured in a two or three cabin layout. Other marine manufacturers like Yamaha and Toyota are leaning heavily into hydrogen propulsion, but have not yet released a product with the circular capability of the AQUON One. Alternating between solar, electric, and hydrogen power has not yet been replicated (or at least unveiled) by any major marine company. There are currently hydrogen-powered superyachts in development from companies like Sunseeker and Feadship, but each focuses on a singular power source.

In terms of propulsion, the AQUON One uses twin electric motors, one in each pontoon, which provide power to the propeller as well as the yacht's operating systems. The company lists a top speed of 16 knots (18 mph) and a cruising speed of 8 knots (9 mph), but with sufficient sunlight the boat can operate indefinitely at 4-6 knots (4.5-7 mph) and can run for up to three days using its storage capacity of hydrogen and Lithium-ion batteries.

You can get a complete breakdown of the power system and how it's designed in the video below:

The Power Catamaran Compilation

  • By Yachting Staff
  • Updated: December 21, 2018

Power Catamarans have been growing leaps and bounds in popularity, and, in lengths and widths. And for good reason. These cruise-centric yachts offer homelike livability for avid travelers, are fuel efficient and are fairly intuitive to run. Power cats are popular in the bareboat charter market too, for these very reasons.

Here, we take a look at 12 catamarans ranging from a cruising-couple-size 36-footer to a 78-footer for friends, family and some more friends. And there are myriad power options: outboards, diesel inboards, hybrid or even all-solar power.

Fountaine Pajot MY44

fountain pajot my44

The Fountaine Pajot MY44 , a creation of Italian architect Pierangelo Andreani and French designer Daniel Andrieu, has a main deck that’s open from the aft-deck seating all the way forward to the starboard helm station. The sense of spaciousness is significant, for several reasons. First, four glass panels aft can all slide to port, creating an indoor-outdoor space with the aft deck and salon. In the salon, 32-inch-high windows extend for 12 feet down the sides of the yacht, with three sections per side, bringing in natural light along with the three forward panes that comprise the windshield. Finally, 6-foot-6-inch headroom provides vertical clearance, with a 21-foot-7-inch beam that adds interior roominess while keeping the yacht stable.

The ideas about which solar panels, electric motors, inverters and the like to use — and more importantly, Michael Köhler says, how to configure them — became the basis for the brand Silent-Yachts. The company offers 55-, 64- and 79-foot catamarans that run on solar-electric propulsion. The Silent 55 premiered this fall, and the 64 is sold out for the next two years, Köhler says.

As founder and director of The Powercat Company, a Horizon Power Catamarans distributor, Stuart Hegerstrom had long believed that catamaran builders needed to design their yachts to more stylish standards.

“The boats were very boxy,” he says, based on his years of experience with cats in the charter market. He and his partner, Richard Ford, asked Horizon to produce models that had high-end finishes and looked good inside and out.

The Horizon team brought in mega-yacht designer JC Espinosa to work with its own craftsmen. The result aboard the Horizon PC74 is a catamaran with exterior styling, layout and functionality that should appeal to private and charter owners alike.

aquila 36

The Aquila 36 is a departure from her sisterships in that she is an outboard-powered, express-cruiser-style catamaran, but she also adheres to MarineMax’s philosophies.

With a single main living level from bow to stern and a beam of 14 feet 7 inches, the Aquila 36 is like a bowrider on steroids. She has seating that can handle 20 adults for outings and barbecues, and there are two staterooms below, one in each hull, for family weekending. The staterooms have nearly queen-size berths, en suite heads, stowage and 6-foot-6-inch headroom.

horizon pc60

To understand the Horizon PC60 power catamaran , you need to put aside preconceived notions about midsize yacht amenities. For example, main-deck master suites are the province of yachts over 100 feet length overall. Incorrect. This 60-footer has an elegant and spacious owner’s stateroom on the same level as the salon. If you want a 14-foot center console tender on a 60-foot yacht, you have to tow it. Wrong again. On the PC60, you hoist it onto the upper deck, no problem.

40 Open Sunreef Power

40 Open Sunreef Power

Sunreef is known for pushing the boundaries of catamaran design, incorporating four adjustable hydrofoils into a twin-hulled speedboat.

The Polish builder is one of several European builders (including Evo, Fjord, Wider and Wally) transforming the open day-boat category with creative designs. Beyond its hydrofoils, the 40 Open Sunreef Power ‘s cockpit has side “wings” along the aft gunwales that fold out at anchor, widening the beam from 17 feet to 22 feet 9 inches.

Fountaine Pajot MY 37

Fountaine Pajot MY 37

The Fountaine Pajot MY 37 easily accommodates the seafaring family with three- and four-stateroom options. In the three-cabin version, called Maestro, you’ll find an owner’s suite in the portside hull with a queen-size berth and en suite head. Two double-berth cabins and one more head are available for the kids. If your brood is bigger, the Quator setup features four double cabins with two heads.

The 37 is a traveler and can be powered with twin 150 hp or 220 hp Volvo Penta diesels. Top speed with the smaller engines is 17 knots, while it’s 20 knots with the bigger power plants. Interestingly, at 7 knots, the fuel consumption is the same, with either set of motors offering voyagers a 1 ,000-nm range.

The Solarwave 64 , launched last summer, has the potential to run on sunshine alone. The vessel’s 42 solar panels generate 15 kW that are stored in batteries weighing about 1,300 pounds. They connect to electric motors.

Glider SS18

SS18, Glider Yachts

This British builder says it strives for design innovation and the Glider SS18 displays that DNA, the result of 8 years of research and development. She has a head-turning, catamaran hull form constructed from aluminum and composite materials. She is 60 feet LOA with a 17-foot beam, and has a relatively shallow 1-foot draft. Powered by quad Yamaha 300 hp outboards, she can reportedly reach 50 knots, and with her Stability Control System (SCS), should give a smooth ride while doing it.
