James Fachtmann

Founder – ceo.

Founder Capt. James Fachtmann – CPYB, is himself a Certified Professional Yacht Broker who has been a Licensed and Bonded Yacht Broker for the last decade.  Born from a passion of the sea and boating, JFA Yacht & Ship is a culmination of 30+ years of yachting experience & successful yacht brokerage world-wide.  A “Fun & Easy” client experience takes hard work, dedication to service, and unwavering integrity to ensure.  Having built a successful “New Yacht” & Brokerage career himself, James understands how vital & rare such traits are in the marine industry.  James founded JFA Yachts to bring together a collaborative team dedicated to meeting and exceeding our clients needs and desires.  Whether racing cross oceans, hiking mountains in Japan, or yachting thru the Mediterranean for Monaco’s Formula One — the JFA Team has found success working together to accomplish the goals we set together.  A Team that plays together, WINS together. Creating the environment where a team can consistently WIN for your benefit is Capt Fachtmann’s top priority when he is not enjoying his other passion— flying as an airline pilot.  Both passions require excellence not as an act but as a habit.  Borrowing from his airline culture, the JFA Yacht & Ship way is three-fold:  Warrior Spirit, Servant’s Heart, with a Fun-Loving Attitude.  In this way the core focus is on building a team of like-minded, passionate, and ethical yacht consultants to make yacht transactions seem “Fun & Easy” for our valued yachting enthusiasts.  Living the JFA Way ensures that our clients receive our best effort, sea-dogged persistent, respectful curtesy, and a celebratory fun-loving attitude.

Ever present on James’ desk are these words by which he endeavors to live by:

Excellence is an art won by training and habituation.  We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but we rather have those because we have acted rightly.  We are what we repeatedly do.  Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.  — Aristotle

Capt James began racing sail boats at an early age of 10 growing up in the Tampa Bay area with his beloved father, Bob Fachtmann and twin brother, Richard.  From Snipes to J’s he raced competitively whenever and where ever he could.  During his college years (1990-1994), James raced in New England as a member of the Norwich Sailing Team and while attending University of Florida he won the Dunedin Yacht Club’s Boat of the Year 4 years consecutively as a member of TEAM FACHTMANN!  While building a marketing and aviation career, James raced and cruised in the Mediterranean, Cuba, Mexico, the Bahamas, the Caribbean and the USVI/BVI’s. He has captained for various companies to include the Sea Scouts, The Moorings, Marina’s International, and Yacht Sales Florida.  Prior to his airline career, James earned the coveted Airline Transport Pilot & “Gold Seal” Flight Instructor’s ratings while flight instructing in Gainesville, FL where he helped create UAC— University Air Center.  During those same years, late 90’s and early 2000’s, James gained valuable formal sales and marketing experience as a successful member of companies like  ALLTEL Mobile, US Cellular, Data Recovery Labs, and Naylor Publications before making his leap of faith into the Airline industry.  His first airline was Pinnacle Airlines (2004 – 2008).  Hired by AirTran Airways in 2008 and then landing at Southwest airlines when the two airlines merged in 2015.  During the financial crisis of 2008, James was temporarily furloughed for 7 months allowing him time to convert his yacht delivery business into a yacht brokerage career.  Simultaneously, he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Professional Aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.  From 2010 – 2015 James Fachtmann earned “FYG Rookie Broker of the Year” and then “FYG Broker of the Year” every year afterwards until he founded yachtmann.com spring of 2015 with his twin brother.  In the summer of 2015, James was invited to become a member of ACY’s “New Yacht” sales team by the owners of Atlantic Cruising Yachts—  the #1 Global Dealer for Fountaine-Pajot & #1 North American Dealer for Jeanneau Yachts.  James continues this mutually beneficial relationship with Chris Bent’s team to this day.  If your goal is to own a Fountaine Pajot or Jeanneau Yacht click here to be directed to James’ ACY Landing page.  In April of 2019, James left the helm of yachtmann.com (a boat brokerage firm) in the trusted hands of his capable twin brother, Richard, in order to build JFA Yacht & Ship, a Yacht & Super Yacht Brokerage Team focused on yachts greater than 67’.

James is currently a USGC Licensed Master Captain 50/100 Ton, a Southwest Airline Captain, and a Licensed Bonded CPYB Yacht/Ship Employing Broker.  While not sailing the “Deep Blue”, James is either piloting Boeing aircraft for Southwest Airlines, helping his team and clients find their dream yachts, or spending time with family and friends.

Marc Lombard

Naval architect.

Long Island, the new range of large catamarans built by JFA represents the ultimate achievement of our design office with their 25 years of experience in producing cruising catamarans for customers who demand more and more space, light and functionality.

The challenge was to avoid compromising the performance while making sure the boat remained easy to handle.

The most appropriate use of building materials and simple yet reliable systems have enabled us to maintain an acceptable loaded displacement. Digital simulation analysis allowed us to optimise precisely the hull lines and the shape of the appendages.

The deck gear and the interior equipment have all been carefully selected on the basis of the best ratio quality/weight. The outcome is simple, efficient and seaworthy, benefiting from our depth of knowledge in the design of cruising multihulls that combine extreme comfort and high performance.

Reputed internationally for the construction of “customs” yachts, JFA Yachts develops every year new projects in collaboration with internationally renowned architects and designers. The French shipyard approached the naval architecture office Dixon Yacht Design to design a new kind of blue water sailing boat.

Sharing their expertise, they want to offer a true long-distance cruising monohull made of aluminum, a centerboarder yacht able to navigate in all kinds of environments and sized to be conducted with a shorthanded crew. Thus was born the Adventure 68, a design that shows that comfort & performance come together in a thoroughly modern yacht that redefines the genre.

Bill Dixon says: The high-volume hull, with its long waterline, takes design ques from the modern shorthanded racing yachts, to give the owner outstanding performance combined with a layout that makes sailing the yacht shorthanded safe and secure. The single living space encompassing the cockpit and the saloon, gives amazing protection both inside and out, with the ability to watch keep in a secure environment. The integrated solid bimini makes a perfect space for multiple solar panels, giving a real boost to onboard energy. Depending on the requirement, the tender could sit transversally in a garage, lifting out through a large deck hatch. Alternatively, the tender can sit athwartships securely on the aft deck, lifting into the water with a carbon fibre davit. The rig configuration offers the flexibility of twin headsail that can be used together or separately depending on the point of sail and conditions. All sail controls lead a secure position in the cockpit, with protection from the deep hull bulwark.

For a 68-footer the accommodation offered is more akin to a 75 to 80′ vessel. There are four sleeping cabins, with three providing great seagoing cabins depending on the conditions additionally to the spacious owners’ forwards. Bill Dixon explains: “The aft triple cabin can be set up for crew and has its own en-suite and dedicated washer/dryer space. Opposite the mid-level galley makes for a very secure are offering good communication with the saloon and the cockpit, aft, accessed from the galley is a dedicated storage area/workshop. Since the Adventure 68 is designed to explore both norther latitudes cruising and tropical environments, the saloon offers a very safe and comfortable environment. The excellent indoor visibility makes watchkeeping inside practical.

JFA Yachts’ highly skilled teams work to build “in-house” exceptional yachts, combining technical efficiency and comfort on board. There is no doubt that this project will seduce an owner concerned about the quality of realization of an authentic sailboat.

Bill Dixon concludes: All in all, the Adventure 68, is offering serious voyagers something that up until now has been missing from the market.

JFA Yachts announces its 50-meter Explorer

Naval architect Tom Humphreys said that “ the design benefited from a highly integrated approach with the aim of meeting all of the client’s specific technical and functional requirements. The design outcome was enhanced through the effort of rigorous naval architecture where intensive CFD work was ultimately validated by one of the most comprehensive testing programmes.”. Among the project’s features is a hybrid propulsion system that meets the vessel’s sustainability goals along with the use of recyclable aluminium. The superyacht also features light displacement and stabilizing fins with a “ large ‘gyro'” . There is plenty of room for large tenders and water toys.

JFA Yachts, the minds behind the Explorer

Overseeing the superyacht construction project is A2B Marine Projects which will interface with Christian Poorte, the project manager appointed by the client. “ Working closely with the client and understanding their wishes, finding the right team and the right yard is a major adventure. Building a boat is not simply asking to ‘build’, it requires a solid foundation of many years of collaboration on all levels with the shipyard. The specific demands and needs of a customer to be satisfied differ for each project. It became clear to me that JFA Yachts could offer a dedicated approach and the versatility required to build this unique vessel . JFA Yachts’ DNA mix of aluminium, composite and lightweight materials, together with in-house production and the team’s passion for the sea, made JFA the right choice ,” said Christian Poorte.

Inside JFA Yachts' Long Island 85 catamaran NDS Evolution

On a bright spring morning in Southern Brittany, the second JFA Long Island 85 catamaran NDS Evolution gracefully leaves the dock in Concarneau. There is a breeze of 25 knots blowing and within minutes of the sails being hoisted, the 26.25 metre yacht is racing along at 15 knots.

It doesn’t take much for her to get up to speed. During her sea trials in France she proved this expertly by achieving six knots of speed in just five knots of wind. The transition from power to sail is seamless. Lines lead back to a flybridge equipped with hydraulic winches, which offers excellent manoeuvrability and easy sail handling, even with a limited crew.

The Long Island semi-custom catamaran was designed by the Marc Lombard Yacht Design Group to a simple design brief. The owners, who were already experienced catamarans owners, revealed their plans to circumnavigate the globe, including visits to both poles with family living aboard for long periods. High performance and comfort were key.

As a result, the 85 sailing catamaran offers the interior space and performance of a much bigger monohull, but with a smaller draft and more stability. The draft, which measures just 2.24 metres, also ensures access to many of the world’s best anchorages.

Drawing on JFA Yachts’ 25-year history and consequent reputation for constructing reliable, luxurious, ocean going vessels, NDS Evolution was built from an aluminium hull and composite superstructure. The size of the yacht and her large freeboard also deliver a smooth and comfortable ride, thanks to the powerful carbon rig.

Great attention was also given to ensure the yacht was simultaneously lightweight and high performance. The hull, superstructure and limited use of teak decking all contribute to the overall displacement of just 56 tonnes. The yacht’s performance, reliability and style are further embedded in the choice of a carbon mast and boom and fat head mainsail.

The deck layout is generous making sail handling even easier; the cockpit is kitted out with a lounge area to starboard and dining table to port, with each side flanked by a large sunpad. Like the flybridge, this area can be completely closed off and heated in cooler climes; perfect for NDS Evolution’s adventurous itinerary. There is ample storage for an inflatable stand up paddleboard, wakeboard, four bicycles and diving equipment while a five-metre tender can be easily launched with a hydraulic Tenderlift platform for adventures ashore.

Inside, JFA Yachts’ attention to detail is no less noticeable. Darnet Design was brought on board to create the yacht’s interior décor, which prominently features oak and walnut woodwork and creates a contemporary ambiance. The elegant full beam owner’s cabin sits forward, with windows on all three sides offering panoramic views.

Accommodation is for nine guests and four crew members. As well as the owner's cabin, this includes a children’s cabin with three beds and two double guest cabins. The crew are treated to plenty of space across a twin cabin and large galley equipped with a crew mess.

The interior comfort, sail handling stability and high performance of this smooth cruising catamaran means NDS Evolution is more than up to her upcoming far flung adventures as her owners prepare to circumnavigate the globe.
