CLUBHOUSE: 562.598.9401

History lesson: LBYC was created back in 1929 to promote yachting and competitive sportsmanship on a world-class level — although interestingly enough the club’s first activity was to host a powerboat race. Nearly 100 years later, we also have a reputation that matches the scope and scale of our mission. Members take part in regattas, invitationals, championships, trips, and other events, and of course, access to our fleet of Catalina 37 One Design racing yachts and solings.

We’ve expanded and evolved to offer members an all-inclusive definition of what it means to be a yacht club. Our year-round calendar includes a full range of power and sailboating programs, stand-up paddleboarding, fishing trips, and travel...nearly any and every recreational activity you can enjoy on, in, and close by the water. After all, we’re ultimately here to have fun, meet some great fellow members, perhaps compete for some bragging rights…and enjoy time with family and friends at this unique private waterfront retreat. Speaking of fun, your first assignment is to look over our curated new member experiences and choose a personalized activity! CAMERON MACLAREN Yachting Director

WELCOME TO LIFE ON THE WATER

New Member Onboarding

WEEK ONE STARTS HERE

Congressional Cup LBYC’s Congressional Cup regatta is known as the “grandfather of match racing.” It’s the oldest continuously-held sailing match race event in the world, and pioneered the concept of on-water umpiring. This regatta sets the standard for top-level match racing, and the list of past winners reads like a Who’s Who of America’s Cup champions including Dennis Conner, and Ted Turner.

The crimson blazer the congressional cup trophy is accompanied by the equally sought-after crimson blazer — sailing’s equivalent to the masters green jacket in golf, and are sources of incredible pride for lbyc members and staff., lbyc burgee for those members new to sailing and the larger yacht world, a burgee is a distinguishing flag of a boating organization. the club and our members fly the lbyc burgee while under way and at anchor, day or night. by club lore, the use of a red star in our burgee is an acknowledgment to lbyc member eddie fink, who won the star class world title in 1932…although there is an extensive history that suggests the red star was in the original burgee and has remained there ever since., group fun lbyc groups offer activities for a variety of interests. as just two examples, the cruising group conducts trips all over southern california via land and sea, including a recent trip to the british virgin islands. with over 25% of members participating, our anglers group is one of the most active, featuring an annual vacation trip, travel to various tournaments, and activities for the kids, wet wednesdays formality aside, our regular wet wednesday regattas are a great way to gain sailing experience, get your sea legs back, or further hone your racing skills. we encourage everyone to come out, catch a ride on one of our catalina 37s or solings, meet fellow members…and enjoy some after-race socializing. if racing isn’t your passion, you can join the scoring team on the bridge deck or take a ride on the iconic loynes to get a glimpse into the world of race management., adult instruction our club is a leader in developmental adult sailing programs for those members with little or no sailing experience, or those who've spent time away from sailing and want to refresh their skills. introductory sailing classes are available, as well as intermediate and advanced instruction as you gain experience both sailing and racing. , junior sailing lbyc has a rich history of competitive sailors that have grown through our renowned junior sailing program. our mission is to promote and teach the sport of sailing and seamanship to the youth of the club, and our board of governance has a historic commitment to supporting our youth programs in every capacity..

CAMERON MACLAREN Yachting Director [email protected] Pro Tip:   The whole family can learn to sail in group classes or private instruction using our brand-new fleet of club solings. For experienced sailors, get your Skipper Card to go day sailing or to start racing in club regattas.

Florida Yacht Club

What are the Cheapest Yacht Clubs?

The cheapest yacht clubs charge just under $1,000 per year for membership. While this does give you access to different types of experiences, you may be disappointed by the overall amenities.

Some yacht clubs are known for their extravagant country club styles that help you to embrace a particular lifestyle. They include Olympic-sized swimming pools, state-of-the-art tennis courts, and fine dining.

Everything has a beautiful waterfront view. It can feel like you are in the middle of an idyllic paradise without ever even having to leave the shore. If this is what you can gain from the most expensive yacht clubs, you should set your expectations much lower for the cheaper yacht clubs.

The cheaper yacht clubs lack the community aspect of these exclusive options. They feature dry slips and the occasional party, but not much more.

Some of them may have the feel of a county park with some picnic benches, outdoor grills, and a moderately sized swimming pool. Expect a much more casual atmosphere when you choose to go with a cheaper yacht club.

It is even possible that they are simply “paper yacht clubs” that do not even maintain a physical building of their own.

How Much Do the Most Expensive Yacht Clubs Cost to Join?

The most expensive yacht clubs can vary a great deal in price. Most of them will cost between $3,000 and $4,000 per year. However, you can certainly find more exclusive clubs that will cost above and beyond this.

Keep in mind that these more expensive clubs generally are not open to the public. They are offered by invitation only and you must have a member sponsor you to be considered for entrance.

When you are paying for a more expensive yacht club, you should make sure that you are really going to get your money’s worth. These expensive clubs promote a certain type of elegant lifestyle.

Make sure that you are planning to take advantage of all the amenities available from one of these clubs before you sink too much money into the membership fees. The social aspect of these expensive yacht clubs is extremely important.

If you plan to simply rent a boat from time to time, you might be able to go with a cheaper yacht club.

What Is Generally Included in the Membership Fee for Yacht Clubs?

Have you been wondering why you should join a yacht club? Many potential members want to know what they can expect from their membership fees before they commit to a year-long contract. There are many advantages to signing up for a membership with a well-known yacht club.

Amenities and Activities

First and foremost, you get access to activities and cruises planned by board members. These might be various sailing activities, dinners, get-togethers, tennis matches, or other events that take up a lazy Sunday afternoon.

You also gain access to any amenities that surround the yacht club’s marina. For many programs, this means a fitness center, pool, and tennis courts. Several locations also offer fine dining, meeting rooms, and more.

It is like a private oasis where you can get away from the hustle and bustle of the regular world. Time moves slowly when you’re enjoying the amenities here.

Many yacht clubs have programs that introduce children (and adults!) to sailing. Take classes to learn more about improving your technique, sailing safety, and other important aspects of life on the open water.

Access to the Fleet

The main reason why most people join yacht clubs is to be able to rent out boats instead of purchasing their own. Joining a yacht club may give you access to an entire fleet of yachts that can be reserved for a day or weeks at a time. Some yacht clubs allow you to rent boats for up to ten days at a time.

Others do not allow you to rent out ships. They are primarily geared toward individuals who already own a yacht or will own a yacht in the future. Make sure you know the difference in advance.

long beach yacht club price

Are There any Additional Costs Besides the Membership Fees?

Unfortunately, the membership fees are not the only cost associated with joining a yacht club. Most of the clubs in the United States also have a one-time initial fee that tends to cost thousands of dollars. Many will range from $1,500 to $5,000 depending on the location and the exclusivity of the yacht club.

This one-time fee should be the only additional money you pay except for fuel. Most yacht clubs do not cover the cost of the fuel used in the ship during your rental if renting is an option. Be prepared for what this could cost you.

If you cause damage to the ship, you can also expect some out-of-pocket costs. Insurance should cover the damage, but you will likely be asked to cover the cost of the deductible.

Be sure to inquire about how much you may be on the hook for before you sign up for any particular yacht club. Accidents can happen, even to the most experienced sailors. Make sure that you can afford the mishap in advance.

Is a Yacht Club Membership Right for You?

Understanding what the real cost of a yacht club membership is can be the first step toward determining if this is right for you. Many people love the luxuries available through the more expensive yacht clubs, but they may not be able to afford it. Consider what is most important in a club to you before deciding to sign on the dotted line for an annual membership.

Local News | Molina Healthcare opens a new health care center in North Long Beach

long beach yacht club price

Molina Healthcare – a health care provider that originated in Long Beach – celebrated the opening of its new one-stop health care and resource center in Long Beach with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, July 24.

“The opening of this one-stop today is only a small piece of a longstanding and strong partnership between Molina and the city,” Abbie Totten, plan president of Molina Healthcare of California, said at the ceremony.

The resource center, 6583 Atlantic Ave., Suite 110, offers health care enrollment assistance for individuals and families that qualify, in addition to multiple local services and support to help those in need.

“The one-stop storefronts for Molina are really a part of our overall vision to ensure our engagement and our close touch to our communities, and so you will see every storefront we have across the state is very different,” Totten said. “It’s based on the needs of the local community, the partners that we can bring to the table to ensure that the health and welfare of our members are met within these four walls.”

Molina Healthcare held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, July...

At the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Molina Healthcare staff, community members, partners and city leaders were present, including Mayor Rex Richardson, Councilmember Joni Ricks-Oddie, and representatives from the offices of Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn and Assemblymember Mike Gipson, D-Carson.

“We certainly know the meaning of a one-stop center,” Richardson said. “This is a community that is certainly going to benefit from having a place like this where you can go … get your check up, access your resources and sign up for your services,” .

Some of the services and community resources at the center include assistance with health coverage, such as Medi-Cal, Marketplace and Medicare; food assistance and a food pantry; food stamps/SNAP enrollments; immigrant and refugee services; nutrition education; utility and rental assistance; and emergency preparedness.

Community partners at the center include Immigo LA, a nonprofit that provides services and resources for the immigrant community; Help Us Help You, a Long Beach nonprofit dedicated to supporting homeless and low-income families and individuals by increasing food access; and Disabled Resources Center.

The center also has conference and office rooms for community members, local services, nonprofits and partners to access. There is also a play area for clients who come in with children.

Ricks-Oddie, who represents the Ninth District where the center is located, shared what the opening of the center meant to her, the community and North Long Beach.

“When we think about issues around social determinants of health, health care access, mental wellness, access to insurance, all of those types of things, facilities like these are critical,” she said, “because we have a really complicated health care system and it is intimidating.

“And when you are a community of people of color, you have a lot of folks who are Spanish speaking, they are immigrants, navigating that system is incredibly intimidating,” she added. “That means barriers, people don’t get the access to the services that we know they need.”

Instead of having people go around to different groups and entities, they now have a one-stop center that will help with the health and wellness services that they need, Ricks-Oddie said.

“(The center is) really going to enhance the quality of life,” she added. “This is an example of how you think holistically about how you serve a community.”

Molina Healthcare’s Long Beach one-stop health center is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information, visit hellomolina.com or call 855-665-4621.

In summer, Italy’s Riviera is among the country’s most visited destinations, thanks to its splendid coastal scenery, miles of beaches, and easy access from major cities. Here’s a sampling of what’s happening at top hotels, beaches, beach clubs and in Cinque Terre to make a stay in this legendary seaside region even more enticing.

NERVI: A Chic Design Hotel

Nervi, a suburb of Genoa.

An independent village in the past, Nervi is now a lush, villa-dotted suburb of Genoa, one that’s known for its important museums, like the Galleria d’Arte Moderna, the Villa Grimaldi Fassio for Belle Époque art, and the Wolfsonian Museum (Wolfsoniana), whose collection highlights key design movements from the late-19th-to-mid-20th centuries.

The Capitolo Riviera opened in July.

A new, stylish design hotel, Capitolo Riviera, opened here in early July, after a two-and-a-half-year renovation (previously it had been the Astor Hotel), in time for the peak summer season. Designed by Studio Parisotto + Formenton Architetti with eco-friendly materials and energy-supplying solar panels, the five-star Capitolo Riviera, set in an abundant garden, has 37 rooms, including three suites and two junior suites, most with balconies or terraces.

Appropriately, considering Nervi’s verdant expanses, the architects said their goal was to create “a hotel within a park.” The aesthetic is very much stealth luxury, with refined, sustainable materials and soft neutral tones. Other pluses: the spacious glass-enclosed reception rooms, allowing the natural setting to figure prominently in the decor; a sleek outdoor-indoor heated pool, and an extensive spa. The hotel will soon debut a golf training room with simulator.

The hotels Botanico Restaurant.

The crisply modern Botanico Restaurant serves seasonal cuisine with inventive modern takes on Ligurian cooking. Nervi is a short drive to Genoa (about 35 minutes) and Portofino (50 minutes) with easy access to both spots by train.

Rapallo: Luxury Updates, A New Beach Club

The grand hotel bristol.

The Grand Hotel Bristol celebrates its 120th anniversary this year.

Celebrating 120 years on the Italian Riviera, the Grand Hotel Bristol , which enjoys an enviable perch overlooking the Portofino Coast, has been marking the milestone with a series of initiatives—renovated rooms (there are 80) and suites (11); additional spa treatments; and the debut of a stylish beach club, Marina di Bardi. There’s a new chef, too, Andrea Cannalire, who oversees the property’s various restaurants, including Le Cupole, that sits atop the hotel and offers some of the best views on the Italian Riviera. The menu offers Italian dishes from a variety of regions.

A room with a view of the Portofino Coast.

Long a Riviera classic that has hosted world leaders and entertainment celebrities, the Bristol became a five-star property only last year. Since the transition, Riccardo Bortolotti, the Bristol’s general manager, says the guest list has become more far-flung. “Our main clientele has been from the USA. In general, we still have guests from Switzerland and Northern Europe, [but also] from Australia, the Middle East and South America.”

Among the Bristol’s new enhancements are the on-site Nuar Art Gallery where events will be held throughout the season. Bortolotti said they added the gallery, because “we like to think that a grand hotel also has a social function and should aim to be a cultural hub open to everyone.” A series of music concerts in conjunction with the Sibelius Festival will also take place at the Bristol.

The new beach club, Marina di Bardi.

A major attraction for 2024 is the beach club, Marina di Bardi, a short shuttle drive from the Bristol, with exceptional sea views, a small swimming pool, and a seaside restaurant with a sophisticated menu.

The chic seafront dwelling (opposite the Rapallo yacht club) is a Liberty-style villa dating from the early 1900s. It started as a private home, and later became a hotel hosting such music luminaries as Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles and Julio Iglesias.

The living/dining area in one of the apartments, which range in size from one to three bedrooms.

Villa founders Simon Catt and Lisa Pelloso recently modernized the property to create five stylish one-to-three-bedroom apartments (including a penthouse in the villa’s tower) with equipped kitchens and daily housekeeping. The villa’s management team can organize various experiences in the area, like boat or culinary tours. In October, Pelloso (who is nutritional therapist), will initiate various wellness retreats. The villa, which has an underground-level art gallery and 24/7 gym, can be rented in its entirety.

Hotel Rosa Bianca

The hotel is located near Rapallo Castle.

In the historic center of Rapallo, you’ll find the Hotel Rosa Bianca, a recently refurbished Art Nouveau structure, where all rooms (some with balconies) face the sea. The hotel, built in the 1800s, is a short distance from the Rapallo Castle, and the town’s Chiosco della Musica, or Music Kioskn, which has a frescoed cupola honoring the greats of music like Mozart and Bach. Celebrity chef Andy Luotto oversees the restaurant, Il Salotto.

CAMOGLI: Learn Italian At A Top Resort

The Camogli seafront.

The Hotel Cenobio dei Dogi commands one the most enchanting spots on the Golfo Paradiso, with a location in Camogli that makes it easy to explore such popular spots as Cinque Terre and Portofino. Like many hotels, the Cenobio dei Dogi offers a range of guest experiences, and now that includes learning to speak Italian. Partnering with “Tutto Bellisimo,” the property can arrange for short immersion classes that teach not only basic conversation, but also how to talk about wine (with a tasting of Ligurian wines). There is also a class where contemporary Italian fiction is discussed.

Cinque Terre: A Legendary Trail Re-opens

An aerial view of Riomaggiore and Via dell' Amore.

One of Italy’s most famous, scenic and sought-after hiking trails, the “Via dell’Amore,” which runs for about a kilometer between the Cinque Terre towns of Riomaggiore and Manarola, is scheduled to open in full on Saturday, July 27. Repair work on the trail has been going on for more than a decade, following various natural disasters including a landslide, followed by a hurricane-like coastal storm in 2018.

Riviera Beach News

San Fruttuoso's beach has a Bandiera Blu ranking.

In 2024, Liguria, the region that is home to the Italian Riviera, was cited for having the most Blue Flag Beaches in Italy for the 14th consecutive year. (The Blue Flag designation is awarded if a beach or port meets a rigorous list of cleanliness and sustainability standards.) The selected locations include 67 beaches and 16 marinas. (For a full list click here. ) Two new beaches that made the cut this summer: Borgo Verezzi in Savona province, known for an expansive white sand shoreline, and Recco, a town famous for its cheese focaccia.

Fashion at the Beach

D&G decor at Le Carillon beach club in Paraggi, near Portofino.

Designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have often been inspired by the colors and cultures of Sicily (Dolce is from Palermo), but the famous village of Portofino, where they own a sumptuous villa, has long inspired their aesthetic, too. The design duo has staged fashion shows in the seaside hamlet, including an Alta Moda (couture) presentation, and they’ve issued Portofino-inspired capsule collections as well.

The beach club also has a pop-up store.

Recently, top fashion brands have been extending their imprints to exclusive beach clubs, so it’s not surprising that Dolce&Gabbana have lent their creative pizzazz to the famous Le Carillon lido in Paraggi, next to Portofino, and located on one of the Riviera’s most idyllic bays. The initiative with DG Resort means the beach club, bar and restaurant are all styled with the fashion house’s fabics— you’ll find the emerald green and white Verde Maiolica pattern brightening loungers, tables, umbrellas, chairs and rugs. D&G also has a pop-up store on the beach club premises.

Plus: An Evening Not To Miss

The Madonna Bianca Festival in Portovenere.

The Portovenere Madonna Bianca celebration, one of the most magical events on the Italian Riviera, is held each August 17 to honor the town’s medieval religious heritage and its patron saint. At night, Portovenere literally glows in the dark, when everything from famous landmarks, like the Chiesa di San Pietro, to the surrounding and dramatic seaside cliffs, is illuminated by thousands of candles and torches. It seems as if all of Portovenere, along with scores of visitors, turns out for the festival and to watch the Madonna Bianca procession wind its way through the town’s historic streets.
