Restaurant of the Societe Nautique de Monaco

monaco yacht club restaurant dress code

This restaurant is that of the members of the Société Nautique de Monaco. If you haven’t already done so, you can very easily become one since the establishment’s team is at your disposal to help you through the process. As for the kitchen, it is family and homemade. Guests will have the luxury of enjoying the quiet terrace with their feet in the water. For information in 2014, following the Yacht Club in its evolution, the Société Nautique is moving to the Louis II quay, as close as possible to Port Hercule. At that time the club took in its luggage its restaurant which gained the most beautiful terrace of all Monaco. Enough to ensure you a gourmet experience full of history.

A guide to the best restaurants in Monaco

Published 23 September 2021

There are no fewer than 86 of France’s 628 Michelin-starred restaurants in the Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur region where Monaco is located, five of them holding a coveted three Michelin stars. Few places in the world rival the Principality for its variety of world-renowned restaurants, all located within a stone’s throw from one another. It’s an exceptional and rare scenario that pushes the best of the best to continually jostle for pole position, resulting in the gastronomic itinerary of a lifetime.

Le Louis XV - Alain Ducasse à l'Hôtel de Paris

Le Louis XV - Get ready for the dining experience of a lifetime

Alain Ducasse’s Monaco menu at Le Louis XV is a taste sensation. Nestled in l'Hôtel de Paris Monte Carlo, the three-starred restaurant is considered the jewel in the Principality’s fine-dining crown, if not the best French cuisine in the world, made evident when it became the first hotel restaurant to receive a coveted three Michelin stars.

Le Louis XV - The decor hints at Versailles - the dress code is just as smart

The atmosphere

Le Louis XV commands eye-watering Monaco prices and yet reservations are highly recommended. A smart dress code is required, with jackets to be worn even when dining on the terrace in summer. The ornate decor is a celebration of gilded mirrors and marble pillars in an ode to the Palace of Versailles, and a nod to 'le bien aime'.

Le Louis XV - Reserve your table in advance

The cuisine

Sit back and prepare for the contemporary Mediterranean menu to take you on an epic journey of the French Riviera. Bold flavourful sauces, intense broths and fresh condiments accompany fish from local fishers, herbs and vegetables from the hinterland. Head Chef Dominique Lory’s renowned gastronomy is accompanied by exceptional wine pairings from Head Sommelier Noel Bajor selected from one of the finest cellars in the world.

Le Louis XV - The menu will take you on a culinary journey of the French Riviera

Yannick Alleno à l'Hôtel Hermitage

Yannick Alleno à l'Hôtel Hermitage - Relaxed seating, delicious menu - no wonder the locals love it here

L'Hôtel Hermitage’s classic Belle Epoque architecture is almost as well loved as the Principality itself. Housed within this neoclassical palace rooted in the heart of Monaco resides another three-starred retaurant with the doyen of cookery, Chef Yannick Alleno, at the helm.

Chef Yannick Alleno himself

The restuarant provides a lively and vibrant dining experience seven days a week. Frequented by a loyal following of Monegasque residents, it shuns the formalities adopted by many of its gastronomic neighbours in favour of a relaxed and inviting ambience. Tables are grouped together in small lounge areas, while the sun terrace affords panoramic views across Port Hercules.

Yannick Alleno à l'Hôtel Hermitage - Book your table on the sun terrace for views such as these

Simplicity is the name of the game, proposing reinventions of traditional fare. Dishes include king crab topped with cream and nettle vinegar, Norwegian lobster with spring herbs and sea bream sashimi. For those short on time, the business lunch menu is an unrivalled express option.

Yannick Alleno à l'Hôtel Hermitage - Simple reinventions of classic dishes are their trademark

Le Blue Bay

Le Blue Bay - Brunch at Le Blue Bay? It's the place to go

Martinique-born Chef Marcel Ravin fuses audacious Caribbean flavours with local Mediterranean ingredients to great applaud at Le Blue Bay. The Michelin-starred restaurant has fast become recognised as a Sunday brunch mainstay on the Monaco food scene, located in Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel and Resort.

Le Blue Bay - Chef Marcel Ravin uses home-grown Mediterranean ingredients

The dining room experience is as sophisticated as the food on the plate, while on the terrace, patrons are treated to sprawling vistas of the Mediterranean Sea. For something a little more special, reserve a seat at Ravin’s table, which faces the open kitchen and provides an intimate setting for a one-to-one with Chef and his team.

Le Blue Bay - The terrace is a great favourite in good weather

Le Blue Bay’s signature dishes slip off the fork faster than they roll off the tongue, from green papaya spaghetti with carbonara, truffle and Iberico ham, and the unmissable organic hhicken with truffle and passion fruit. Each dish is dressed on a made-to-measure plate thrown by a potter from Ravin’s native island that evokes the memory of the Caribbean seabed.

Le Blue Bay - Plated to look as though it is served on a seabed

Yoshi is the only Japanese restaurant on the Côte d'Azur to have been awarded a Michelin star. Located in the Hôtel Metropole, which itself is contained in the glamorous Carré d'Or, the restaurant conveniently sits less than 100m from the area’s luxury boutiques and the famed Casino Square.

Yoshi - Bright and beautiful food, which tastes just as delightful

Veteran interior designer Didier Gomez has created a chic and sophisticated zen ambience. Apple green seating is twinned with a pan-Asian interior design, accented by pops of burnt orange and light wood panelling. The restaurant opens onto a Japanese-inspired garden designed by Parisian landscape architect Jacques Messin.

Yoshi - Chef Takeo Yamazaki pairs each dish with sake, whisky or tea

Prepare to experience umami in all its forms, as Chef Takeo Yamazaki creates a whirlwind of nigiris, makis and sashimi, all prepared on the Teppanyaki. Using the freshest ingredients, each dish is then paired with the rarest of Japanese sake, whiskies or green teas by Yoshi’s head sommelier for an unforgettable feast from the Far East.

Yoshi - Such delicate presentation promises equally intricate flavours

Quai des Artistes

Quai des Artistes - A taste of Paris in Monaco, and right by the harbour

When visiting Monaco by yacht, Quai des Artistes makes for an ideal and convenient stop off. Situated on the edge of Port Hercules, guests can move from yacht to table in just a few short steps. Seating up to 120 diners at any one time, this Parisian-style brasserie is a reliable walk-in option at any time of the day.

Quai des Artistes - Sit in the cool on a summer's day and watch the world sail by

When it comes to restaurants in Monaco with a view, few can rival the clear line of sight to the princely palace and line-up of superyachts that typically dock in front of this establishment. A shaded terrace under the arcades is the go-to in winter, while a larger terrace at the edge of the port is a summer hot spot.

Quai des Artistes - Fresh seafood to eat in or takeaway

Serving the freshest of seafood, with the option to takeaway, Quai des Artistes is an everyday favourite with the benefit of public parking under the terrace. Here is where you will find quintessential French cuisine classics, from Burgundy snails cooked in garlic butter to crepes suzette.

Quai des Artistes - Everyday French classics make this eatery a must

La Marée Monaco

La Marée Monaco - From the fish counter to your plate in elegant style

Specialising in fish, seafood, oysters and caviar, La Marée Monaco is a seafood restaurant with flair. Sourcing the best catches in the early hours at the dock, the produce is divided between tanks, kitchen and fish counter allowing guests to hand pick their order each time.

La Marée Monaco - Chef buys the catch straight from the fishing boats

Overlooking the harbour and bathed in soft light the restaurant is a heady mix of Monegasque revelry, music and sophistication. La Marée Monaco provides a non-stop service throughout the day - alongside the eatery sits the dedicated boutique serving just-cooked takeaway bites, selected straight from the fish counter.

La Marée Monaco - Music creates a chilled-out ambiance

Whether cooked in salt crust, foil or grilled, the mouth-watering menu is a carnival of the ocean. The seasonal dishes are reliant on what the fishing boats bring in, making each visit a delightful surprise for the senses. That said, an array of everyday essentials, such as salmon tartare, oyster tempura and maatjes herring guarantee a culinary adventure every visit.

La Marée Monaco - Freshly shucked oysters are always on the menu

What to wear to the Monaco Yacht Show: Men's style guide

The Monaco Yacht Show is just around the corner and, with so many yachts, exhibitors and events to attend while you're there, all sartorial planning should be done well in advance. Of course, with yacht hopping and business meetings during the day and a coterie of social engagements every evening, knowing what to pack can be a bit of a headache.

To give you a head start we've picked three stylish looks suitable for day time, dinners and cocktail parties so you can be the best dressed man at the show without even thinking about it...

You may be all business during the day but the balmy Monaco climate calls for something rather more relaxed than your usual office attire. Opt for classic navy chinos and a white shirt paired with a lightweight subtly checked jacket for a little added interest. A pair of original Sperry Top-Sider boat shoes are a must for any serious yacht hopper while finishing touches in the form of versatile black sunglasses and a hard-wearing Breitling diving watch complete the look with ease.

Blue glen-check wool, silk and linen-blend blazer, £2,520, Lutwyche at Mr Porter ; Classic navy chinos, £149, Armani Collezioni at Harrods ; Authentic Original boat shoe, £85, Sperry Top-Sider ; 301 gold and black sunglasses, £395, Linda Farrow ; Superocean heritage Chronograph 44, £2,700, Breitling

If you are hosting or attending a more formal dinner the golden rule is to choose one 'hero' piece and keep everything else simple. This velvet jacket from Brioni comes in an intriguing navy-teal shade guaranteed to set you apart in a sea of black and navy suits. Wear with a classic white shirt, slim-fit black trousers and an understated yet sleek chronograph watch that speaks volumes about your elegant taste. Even if your event is on-shore finish with a pair of black suede loafers - laces at boat shows are never a good idea.

Cotton and cashmere-blend velvet blazer, £2,940, Brioni at Mr Porter ; Classic white cotton shirt, £230, Jil Sander at Farfetch ; Slim-fit wool and mohair-blend trousers, £375, Valentino ; Carrera Calibre 36 Flyback Automatic Chronograph, £6,600, Tag Heuer ; Shark black suede loafers, £450, Giuseppe Zanotti

The standard attire for Monaco Yacht Show cocktail parties may be chinos and a navy blazer but that doesn't mean there isn't still room to show a little personality. Start by choosing a jacket with a barely-there pattern and be sure to rough roll your chinos for a more relaxed, off-duty style. When it comes to accessories, really go to town with quirky, colourful touches - Fendi's Monster cufflinks and Brunello Cucinelli's patterned pocket square are ideal. But, of course, you can't beat a timeless Rolex to really pull a look together.

Hoyt navy checked seersucker blazer, £320, Tiger of Sweden at Harvey Nichols ; Aros grey cotton chinos, £110, Norse Projects ; Monster cufflinks, £215, Fendi at Matches Fashion ; Wool flannel patterned pocket square, £120, Brunello Cucinelli ; Cellini Date Dual Time, POA, Rolex

Inauguration of the new YCM building

At 43°44’15’’ N and 7°25’40’’ E, this hi-tech building which looks like a liner docked on Quai Louis II is home to two of the Principality’s historic clubs: the Société Nautique (rowing club) and the Yacht Club, a meeting point for owners and focus of international yachting activities. Alongside Lord Foster and Monegasque architect Alexandre Giraldi, Jacques Grange and Nelson Wilmotte have put their talents to the service of the new building’s interior and exterior layout and design.

“ Allow me to express a very sincere wish that the Yacht Club de Monaco fulfil its mission as a link between people who love the sea, that it serves the interests ”

— Prince Rainier III

To be a member of the Yacht Club de Monaco is above all a commitment. It is a desire to preserve a certain ethic, both on land and on the water, and to foster a respect for naval etiquette and preservation of the environment. The Yacht Club de Monaco’s philosophy is based on the need to perpetuate but also to pass on a heritage, inherited from our ancestors, to ensure that the Yacht Club remains a lively and progressive place.

The Sailor's Style Guide: How to Dress at a Yacht Club

If you've been invited to a casual yacht club rendezvous, you'll need the right threads to fit in.  in this guide, we'll walk you through the yacht club attire you'll need to fit in. hint: you can find the perfect outfit head to toe with castaway.

You've been invited to a meal or event at a local yacht club, but you've never been to one before. Suddenly, the panic sets in. What should you wear? Fortunately, there are lots of options and visiting a yacht club does not mean you have to spend a lot of money just to fit in. This post will give you some pointers on yacht club attire so that you feel neither under nor overdressed, and can really enjoy yourself and have a great time at the club.

Before you even think about what to wear, check to see if the yacht club you're going to has a dress code posted online. Most of them do, and the rules can vary from club to club. The Nantucket Yacht Club , for example, requires semi-formal attire for its dinners and cocktail attire including ties for men during its dinner dances and balls. The Hyannis Yacht Club goes into a little more detail. It accepts stylish casual wear including clean, neat jeans and shorts for lunch. For dinner, guests are expected to step it up by leaving the denim at home and wearing sports coats. Different areas of a club may also have different dress rules. Bars and outdoor decks tend to more lax and allow casual clothing.

Sometimes, the easiest way of narrowing down what to wear is to eliminate what you should not wear. This is just a partial list of how not to show up at any kind of yacht club unless you want to be denied admittance or receive a lot of disapproving glares. All rules listed apply to the inside of the club, and can vary for beach and dock rulings.

Flip Flops or Going Barefoot: This rule applies INSIDE the club, or for any meal time. Most people love the beach, but going barefoot is not only unacceptable, but unhygienic.

You'll want to wear appropriate footwear such as sturdy sandals or closed toe shoes. While a lot of children and adults love their flip-flops, they may be a little too casual for a yacht club atmosphere. The most popular choice here is a boat shoe style but a bridle bit driver is always appropriate - check the latest . The lightly worn leather and pencil-curled laces fit the bill in the cool department.

Torn, Stained, or Worn Clothing: Any attire that is showing signs of wear such as rips, stains that never came out, holes, missing buttons, etc. should be left at home.

Baseball Caps and Other Hats: Most yacht clubs prefer that men remove their caps when inside the venue. Save them for the sailing excursions.

Extra points on the water if you rock the Club’s Burgee on the hat!

Swimwear: Just a no-no. Save it for the boat and the beach. A cover-up can be acceptable for the patio.

Going Shirtless: Nope!

Undershirts as Shirts: See above. You may also want to be careful about choosing a t-shirt, particularly one with graphics, when visiting a yacht club. Most prefer that you wear a collared shirt, even if it's a casual one such as a polo shirt.

Tank tops for men and any tank tops for women that are skimpy and don't hide undergarments should be saved for another occasion.

Women have a lot of options when it comes to visiting a yacht club. Linen and cotton make the perfect summer blouses. A light but structured Sleeveless Top paired with a  sweater is perfect for warding off cool sea breezes when you're out on the deck. A polo or collared shirt works well for the yacht club scene as well. You can also consider a dressy blouse that has a little bit of flounce to it. If shorts are allowed for the time and area of the club you're visiting, consider sporting  Sailing  shorts  with a cute anchor embroidery. They're cool, classy, and show off just the right amount of leg. Casual skirts and dresses are perfectly fine as well as long as they're not too short and revealing. If you're attending a party at a yacht club you may need to wear a nice cocktail dress, or a classic Tunic Dress for a day event. Special events such as balls and dinner dances usually specify what is appropriate attire on the invitation.

Don't forget to have fun with accessories! A straw handbag can complete a nautical themed look.

For most casual yacht club occasions, men can't go wrong with a collared shirt and long pants or Cisco Shorts . Pastel and preppy shades such as summer green, hurricane red, and islander blue rule here.

When casual attire is allowed, collared sport or polo shirts are always in fashion. Seersucker and linen shirts are available in several colors and patterns for summer club get-togethers. If jeans are not allowed, seersucker or cotton canvas pants are still casual and comfortable yet dressy enough for all areas of a yacht club. If you really want to show your love of nautical dressing, consider wearing a fun Embroidered Pant !

Or you can opt for solid pants but add some nautical flair with an embroidered belt . Classic summer staples like Seersucker and Madras Patches will make you the talk of the Club, in a good way!

For those chilly sea breezes and evenings, a quarter zip pullover wards off the cool air while keeping you stylish and casual.

It's a good idea to keep a sportcoat and a few ties in your closet just in case the yacht club you're visiting requires it. Opt for a fun all over embroidered jacket, or a Madras Patchwork style to really up your game.

Kids' clothing should conform to the same yacht club rules as established for grown-up guests. If you really want your son to look cute, consider dressing him in the same matching outfit as dad.

Whether you're looking to make a splash with yacht club attire or just want to look good on the boat or while meeting with friends, we have the seaside looks that you'll look and feel wonderful in for men, women, and children.

What to Wear in Monaco

Are you wondering what to wear in What to Wear in Monaco ? In this guide we will give you a seasonal overview of what to wear in Monte Carlo in summer, winter, spring and fall alongside outfit inspiration.

Important Note : This post may contain affiliate links which means if you click through and make a purchase I will make a small commission at no extra cost to you.

But before we get onto the specifics of what to wear in Monaco along with some outfit inspiration we thought it would be worthwhile to talk about what exactly constitutes Monaco, and how the seasons will affect your Monaco Packing List.

Table of Contents

Where is Monaco?

Although many people think Monaco is a part of France (usually part of South of France or the French Riviera) but it is actually an independent sovereign country that is officially called the Principality of Monaco.

Monaco is surrounded on land by France though it is only 10 miles away from Italy too.

It’s most famous neighbourhood is Monte Carlo and is famed for its’ casinos and beaches.

Monaco Dress Codes

Woman dressed elegantly with yachts in background in Monaco Monte Carlo

Monaco itself does not have a dress code however there are plenty of places in Monaco that do have dress codes which are enforced. Those most strictly enforced are at casinos in Monaco.

Monaco Casino Dress Codes

In Monaco casinos the dress code is strictly enforced and usually means that shorts, sneakers, and flip flops may not be worn. And in some instances a jacket may be required. For a more detailed guide on what to wear in Monte Carlo check out this post.

As the dress code can differ between casinos it is worth checking each casinos specific policy before travel.

What to wear in Monaco at Night

Although my packing lists don’t usually include formal wear and high heels I would recommend you adding this to your Monaco packing list.

If you plan to visit a casino or a high end Monaco restaurant then you will want some nicer outfits with you.

For this reason I recommend packing a pair of heels and a dress. I tend to opt for a black dress as this can be dressed up and modified with accessories easily so is great for a Monaco Capsule Wardrobe.

What to Wear in Monaco in Summer (June, July and August)

Woman overlooking Monaco

Summer in Monaco is categorised as June, July and August. And during this period both the temperatures and the crowds will skyrocket.

During the Summer in Monaco you can expect lots of sunny days and very little rain. Average summer temperatures tend to hover around 27°C with August being the hottest month and with usually only one day of rain in the month.

As such we would recommend putting the below on your summer Monaco packing list:

Maxi Dresses

Maxi dresses are my number one pick for Monaco in Summer. They are stylish and work well on beaches, restaurants and even in casinos if dressed up.

Loose and flowing dresses are better for the day than tight fitting ones made of man made fabrics as they will keep you cooler.

Maxi Skirts

Maxi skirts are also great for pairing with T shirts and Tank tops in Monaco.

Evening Dress

As many Monaco attractions like casinos and restaurants do have dress codes, and many people will dress up glamorously in Monaco. Therefore a smarter dress for evenings is a must for Monaco.

T Shirts and Tank Tops

These are perfect for out exploring Monaco however just don’t expect to go into churches in a tank top without covering your shoulders first. For this reason we recommend always carrying a pashmina with you.

I never travel anywhere in Europe without a pashmina. It is great in the evenings in case you get chilly dining al fresco.

Trousers and Blouse

Trousers and blouses are a great alternative to maxi dresses for exploring Monaco. They are also a great day to night transition outfit for going out to dinner in the region.

Linen trousers are popular with the locals and are good in the hot weather.

Although shorts are on my what not to wear in Paris list they are a great choice for Monaco. However if you do bring shorts be sure not to wear them in an evening for a casino as this is against dress codes.

Swimwear

If you are visiting Monaco in the summertime chances are you will be spending time on the beach or if you are lucky on a yacht or on a boat trip. Therefore you will want to have some stylish swimwear with you.

As there are no dress codes on the beach in the Monaco you can choose whatever swimwear you feel most comfortable in whether that be one pieces or bikinis.

Depending on how long you plan to spend on the beach here depends on how many pieces of swimwear you will need.

I would recommend packing at least two swimwear pieces so one can be drying while you are wearing the other.

Beach Cover

Most people in Monaco when not swimming or sunbathing will put on a beach cover on when they head to bars or local amenities so we recommend adding one or two beach covers to your packing list.

Sun hats are a staple on any Monaco summer packing list. Be sure to pick a wide brimmed straw hat instead of a baseball cap to fit more in with the locals.

Goes without saying

We recommend packing lightweight PJs and loungewear for Monaco in the summer.

And if you are visiting other neighbouring areas in France in Summer be sure to check out our other French Summer packing Lists:

  • What to wear in Provence
  • What to wear in the South of France
  • What to wear in Paris in June
  • What to wear in Paris in July
  • What to wear in Paris in August
  • What to wear in France in July

What to Wear in Monaco in Spring (March, April, May)

Monte Carlo Monaco Casino

Depending on what time you are visiting Monaco in Spring will depend on how hot the temperatures are.

April really kicks off the peak tourist season in Monaco and you may find March too cold to be spending too much time on the beach and you may need some additional layers.

May is obviously the warmest month in Spring and Monaco is the warmest region of France in Spring. You can expect temperatures in May to be around 14-20°C.

For this reason we recommend packing the same as the summer, though you may need less in terms of swimwear as the weather may be too cold and you will need to add some additional layers.

Therefore on the top of the summer packing list we recommend brining the below during Spring:

Monaco evenings in Spring can be cold so be sure to add a cardigan or two to pair to your dress and trousers outfits.

This is great for exploring in March and Early April in Monaco. However if you feel the cold it is a good idea to keep this on your list for any Spring month.

This may be needed if you are visiting the Monaco in March.

You may also be able to remove the sunhat from your packing list if you are visiting in March.

What to Wear in Monte Carlo in Fall (September, October and November)

Autumn, or Fall in Monte Carlo and Monaco generally is classified as September, October and November. However November is more akin to Winter in the region, and September and early October similar to summer.

In particular, if you are visiting Monaco in September you can pretty much select the same outfits as you would in August as the temperatures are very similar.

However the later in Fall you visit the cooler it becomes and peak season tends to end in mid–October.

If you are visiting in late October and November you probably wont be needing lots of swimwear as it will be too cold to get in the water everyday.

Also you will want cardigans and sweaters on your packing list, and in November you may even need a jacket.

What to Wear in Monaco in Winter (December, January and February)

Monaco Winters are often mild and dry with average temperatures being between 12 and 8 C degrees (53F -46F).

Personally I don’t think the weather in Winter is warm enough for the beach or to go swimming but it is unlikely you will need anything thicket than a jacket or sweater during Monaco Winters.

Therefore when putting together your Monaco Winter packing list we recommend abandoning the summer packing list and wearing the below instead:

Jacket/Coat,

You will definitely want a jacket for Monaco in Winter. However during most winters a warm jacket will be enough and a thick coat won’t be required.

Cardigans, Sweaters and Top Layers

We recommend packing a few different types of top layers with you for instance a combination of cardigans, sweaters and hoodies of different weights so you have enough variety in case of a very cold snap.

Long Sleeve Tops

It is unlikely you will be wearing short sleeve t shirts in Monaco in the Winter. Long sleeve t shirts and blouses are therefore a much better choice.

Even though it is winter you will still want a more glamorous dress for evenings. Just be sure to have a blazer or pashmina with you for cooler nights and potentially pair it with tights too.

Jeans

Although linen trousers are perfect for Monaco in Summer and the shoulder seasons, they are too lightweight for Winter visitors to the region.

Instead we recommend going with heavier weight trousers in Winter. We tend to recommend packing jeans and some heavier smart woollen trousers instead.

I never go to Europe without one. But it is a handy extra layer for Winter visitors.

A slightly heavier weight pair are better in Winter.

What to Wear in Monaco for Men

For men visiting Monaco we recommend adding the following items to your packing list:

  • Mixture of long and short sleeve t shirts for day time and night. Polo shirts are also good when you need a smarter day time look.
  • Shirts – mix of long and short sleeves. Be sure to check dress codes of any places you are heading in Monaco as many restaurants and attractions may stipulate long sleeves.
  • Trousers – we recommend selecting natural fabrics such as cottons and linen for summer. a
  • Shorts – Shorts are fine for on the beaches in Monaco however you may not be allowed to enter some night time attractions in Monaco in shorts. So be sure to have some trousers with you for evenings.
  • Blazer / Linen Jacket – these should be Brought no matter the season as some restaurants and casinos require jackets to be worn for entry.
  • Smarter Pair of Shoes or sandals

Best Shoes for Monaco

Sneakers are perfect for Monaco during the day. It is great for walking around the city, beach and for the hills of the region.

Note : if you are visiting in Summer be sure to pack sneaker socks too to reduce odour and sweat in your shoe.

And while these are perfect for day time it is worth noting you should have a change of shoe for the evening as many Monaco establishments especially those in Monte Carlo have dress codes and sneakers are not on them.

Perfect for the beach and dinner in summer and shoulder seasons. However if you are there in Winter boots are more appropriate.

I personally like to wear espadrilles when in Monaco for days in summer.

I never normally add heels to my packing lists as they take up lots of room and are uncomfortable for walking. However these are a must for Monaco in my opinion.

People tend to dress for dinner in Monaco and there is lots of glitz and glamour. For this reason we recommend having heels with you for nights in Monaco.

Flip flops are a great choice for the beach, around pools and on yachts but aren’t great for walking around Monaco.

What Else to add to your Monte Carlo Packing List (non clothing)

  • Aftersun cream
  • Reusable Water Bottle
  • Phone / Camera
  • Charger
  • Insect Repellant – for summer and shoulder seasons
  • Accessories – to dress up outfits for nights in Monaco.

Note : if you have room in your suitcase then you can bring toiletries with you. Toiletries are very easy to buy in Monaco however you will pay a premium for them.

Dress Code for YC dinners

New to MSC and Yacht Club.  Mostly cruise with NCL which is very casual.   How dressed up do people get for YC dinners?  It appears that there is a formal night - do men wear suits?   We are fine with bringing suits, etc but if it’s not necessary would prefer not to.

Thank you.

Sailing out of the US for Caribbean sailings dress in the YC Restaurant is largely country club casual. I’m avoiding the term ‘resort casual’ as shorts for dinner are not acceptable (sorry, you may see them, but they are not ‘suggested attire for dinner’).  You will however see folks who ‘dress’ for dinner. We do, but we are in a distinct minority. Formal night can be more dressy with at least jackets for gentleman. Depending on the itinerary I may bring my tux. There I will be a very distinct minority. If you have a higher ratio of Europeans on the cruise (mostly out of Miami or French Antilles) you will see a definite upping of the dominant dress.

Thank you.  I will make sure my gentlemen bring their jackets etc.

Ooh, I was just about to make some  🍿 Popcorn to watch this show...

To answer the OP's question - it's a free for all. There is a SUGGESTED dress code and it's up to the Maitre D' to enforce.  There are posters who  insist (blah blah blah)  that it's their vacation and they paid for it and they can wear shorts and flops to dinner, darn it, because how they dress shouldn't bother your enjoyment of your dinner.  In fact it does bother me because I generally feel like it's being done sometimes to have a showdown of sorts - "whatcha mean I can't wear what I want?" (voices escalating), "I paid to be here and I'll wear what I want, wanna try me?", etc...."  (However, I have seen plenty of men walk toward Le Muse on the Divina in shorts, accompanied by their butler, and be denied entrance.)

Then there are posters who believe in Ladies and Gentlemen acting like ladies and gentlemen.  For this we use the Country Club Attire guidelines.  No hats in dining room, no shorts for dinner, etc.  If you couldn't wear for dinner in a restaurant at a members only country club then you shouldn't be wearing it in the YC.  You want to insist on shorts and flops and a baseball cap - go to the MDR, the buffet, order room service or snack on the olives in Top Sail (kidding).

In short, jackets are NOT required for formal night. Collared shirt and trousers are perfectly appropriate, a tie is a nice touch that doesn't add weight to a suitcase.  A jacket is icing on the cake, but not necessary.

And the carmelized onions.

Suits are not necessary.  I was in shorts all week, and loved it.

Thanks

^^ He would probably get into the Yacht Club for dinner. He might get turned away but I wouldn't be surprised if he was sitting at the table next to me.

Shorts, hat, no socks......whatever.  😅

There's the actual rules

The rules that MSC enforce

The rules that some passengers would like them to be, which generally fall into two camps of either stricter/more formal and the opposite.

amygutman

In our 2 YCs with 2 different dining room staff on 2 different ships (Meraviglia, Seashore), the only persons I saw turned away were a younger couple in bathing attire who clearly had come from the pool. They were literally dripping on the floor outside the dining room entry.

Maître d' politely asked that they change as they would "make it impossible to dry the chairs for the next guests". They even offered to sit them on the pool deck and have their butler bring them clothes, or have their dining selection brought to their rooms. It was a nice move to maintain decorum and not make a scene.

We are the "resort casual" folks - having lived in Bermuda for years, tailored shorts, collared shirt (and the occasional jacket) is considered dressed up. We dress the same as we would at any "white tablecloth" restaurant: no hats, no flip flops, no tank tops, no gym/pool-wear, and if we wear shorts they are tailored and long enough to cover the bits.

Oddly enough, as compared to NCL where they emphasize "freestyle cruising" but require long pants at some of their restaurants (though not specifically in the Haven), our experience is that you not be called out in the YC unless you are rude or disrespectful.

Have a wonderful cruise! Warmest, Amy

Thank you Amy.

on our last NCL cruise in February our adult son was turned away from LeBistro on the first night because he was wearing knee length shorts and his luggage hadn’t arrived.  Rules are rules I guess.  We just left quietly and ate where we could.

We don’t normally wear shorts to any dinner.  We always take dress pants, nice shirts etc.  I just didn’t want to cause problems if we were out of dress code.

Having good manners always fits.  Like the old saying you are never fully dressed without a smile!

Usually , NCL will be Cruise Casual (shorts allowed) on the first night for that exact reason....

Yea, no issues in other restaurants just LeBistro.

Just got off the seascape 2 weeks ago, we were a group of 14. On gala night I wore jean pants and all other nights wore shorts, no problem at all.

Each night the manager promptly came over and laughed with our table.

Some people dress up, others don't... Regardless, they will not kick you out of the YC restaurant.

We wear jeans/chinos and a shirt (likely short-sleeved). Maybe a jacket if feeling smart. No smarter than that.

morpheusofthesea

We would extend this to every meal when we cruise nowadays. "When you pay for a stay in a hotel, you also pay for the comfort, amenities, and services of a hotel, but it does not necessarily mean that you can do and act whatever you like and however you feel. There are hotel manners that you must take note of. Courtesy and respect beget the same, and knowing what to wear for breakfast in a hotel is a basic manner that makes a big difference. Most hotels establish a formality culture in dining for breakfast as a sign of respect and consideration for other guests and the staff. Unless your breakfast wear is as comparable to your smart-casual wear, that wouldn’t be a problem." https://thealcazar.com/what-to-wear-for-breakfast-in-a.../

https://tableagent.com/article/dressing-to-dine-dress-codes-defined/  you can understand why dress codes are sometimes suggested by eateries of a certain merit: they wish for their guests to experience the world they have created. You can savor the luxury of top-notch service best when you too look and feel first-rate. The essence of fine dining wants to take patrons out of their ordinary lives, and for two hours, allow them to bask in the extraordinary experience of their choice. To truly be apart of such a supreme culinary happening—one must look the part and one must dress to dine.

Do you see anything other than I'm seeing regarding the rules as stated by MSC? The website says for evening wear it is suggested to adhere to a more polished look. In that they included tailored pants and shorts. Typically, I don't even bring long pants on any beach type vacation. If it's required, I'll participate. If it's merely other people's opinion, I'll stick to my nice button up shirt and khaki shorts. Can you clarify?

40 minutes ago, ColbyBixby said: Do you see anything other than I'm seeing regarding the rules as stated by MSC?

MSC is more " suggestion " than " rule ". Certain things can be enforced but often times, even those things aren't enforced.

43 minutes ago, ColbyBixby said: If it's required, I'll participate. If it's merely other people's opinion, I'll stick to my nice button up shirt and khaki shorts. Can you clarify?

The khaki shorts should be fine. MSC seems to make a distinction between shorts (think gym shorts) and shorts (khakis, cargo shorts, etc.).

In your case, I would suggest bringing a pair of pants just in case the Maître d' is strict on your particular sailing. The same Maître d' might allow shorts the following week. Who knows?

Have I seen gym shorts being worn in the Yacht Club for dinner? Yes.

Is it possible that the same person wearing the same shorts might get turned away at the MDR on another MSC cruise? Yes.

I have seen men refused from YC at dinner for shorts.  But i have also seen thugs with baseball caps allowed.   🤷🏼‍♀️

hum... let's go with hooligan 🙂 , but I'm talking basketball shorts hiked so low as to see the waist logo on the "under britches", tank top, backwards ball cap... that whole thing.  (Seashore and Meraviglia)  However, on the Divina have also witnessed a gent in linen dress shorts being turned away to go change at dinner.

In Love with the Sea: Yacht Club de Monaco celebrates 70th Anniversary

Yacht Club de Monaco celebrates 70th Anniversary

Monaco’s unequivocal love for the Mediterranean has made it synonymous with yachting. With access to dozens of countries, cultures and histories at its doorstep, the Yacht Club de Monaco is a lasting and proud symbol of adventure, affluence, limitless possibility and the passionate bond forged between a sailer and the glittering depths of the open water. This year, the YCM is celebrating its 70th anniversary with a grand program of events which are within the frame of Monaco, Capital of  Advanced  Yachting approach, sure to make any wandering yachtsman or woman want to drop anchor in Port Hercules and enjoy the festivities.

Port constructed by ancient mythical hero… Hercules!

Port Hercules is one of the only deep-water ports along the entire French Riviera. Ancient Greeks and Romans used the port in 600BC. At the time, the port was dotted with altars to the mythical hero and demigod, Hercules. Texts by Roman Emperor Julian stated that Hercules himself constructed Monaco’s port and coastal road.

Yacht Club de Monaco celebrates 70th Anniversary

Monaco starts to become the epicentre of yachting over 160 years ago…

Because Prince Charles III wanted Monaco to be renowned for both yachting and innovation, he inspired the Principality’s first regattas in 1862. His son, Prince Albert I, inherited a passion for the sea and became a renowned navigator, explorer and pioneer of oceanography. In 1904, when road races were banned because they were deemed too dangerous, SBM launched the “Exhibition and International Motorboat Meeting”. Leading car manufacturers flocked to Monaco to test their new engines on water. Monaco was starting to become the centre of the boating world.

In 1953, Prince Rainier III, who was known for his passion for bringing people together, looked beyond the sporting aspect of yachting and established the Yacht Club de Monaco. The Prince saw the Club as a way to create friendships and bonds between people who love the sea through a rich variety of social events. Prince Rainier III immediately agreed to become the YCM’s president and, one year later, the Club began organizing meetings and international events, as well as scuba-diving and fishing adventures. All these events resulted in a 50% increase in boats frequenting Monaco’s harbour.

The next generations of sailors began getting formal training when the YCM set up its Sailing School inaugurated in 1970. Two years later, the Builder Prince encouraged boat-making genius Carlo Riva (who created the iconic mahogany Monte-Carlo Offshorer yachts) to build the first dry port.

The Yacht Club’s hi-tech Home

With the goal of sheltering the port from strong easterly winds, Prince Rainier III launched several studies in the 1970s, which culminated in a colossal, semi-floating harbour wall. Completed in 2002, the wall is 350 metres long, weighs 160,000 tonnes and has been praised for its inventive design. The project was completed with a breakwater, which formed the marina in front of Quai Louis II, now home to the Yacht Club de Monaco’s new clubhouse.

Yacht Club de Monaco celebrates 70th Anniversary

Completed in 2014, the hi-tech building looks like a liner docked on the Quai. The Club boasts 5,000 m 2 of interior space and 4,000 m 2 of terraces. The emblematic building was sustainably designed with solar panels, a sea water cooling system and uses natural light and ventilation. Domestic materials such as European oak were used for the terraces and recycled materials were used for the foundations. Local companies were employed for its construction. The building demonstrates the YCM’s profound commitment to the planet.

HSH Prince Albert II continued the work begun by his father by spearheading redevelopments which continue to make Port Hercules the most modern and practical marina on the Mediterranean, positioning Monaco as the Capital of Yachting. In 1984, Prince Albert II was appointed as President of the Yacht Club by his father. The first year of his presidency saw the launch of the Primo Cup and the Monaco-New York transatlantic race. The Monaco Classic Week — La Belle Classe was created in 1994.

The YCM’s La Belle Classe Academy is dedicated to anyone involved in yachting, from captains and crew members to future owners. Opened in 2015, expert teachers in state-of-the-art facilities teach students about everything from basic safety training and navigation to pleasure boating and sustainability.

How to become a member of the Yacht Club

“To be a member of the Yacht Club de Monaco is above all a commitment. It is a desire to preserve a certain ethic, both on land and on the water, and to foster a respect for naval etiquette and preservation of the environment,” — YCM.

The Yacht Club de Monaco currently has over 2,500 members from 81 nationalities who all share a passion for the sea. To become a member, one needs to be introduced by two sponsors, who are both YCM society members. (Anyone who has been a society member for more than one year may propose one applicant per session.) Twice a year, Prince Albert II convenes a meeting of the Admissions Committee to examine all applications. New members are officially welcomed to the YCM with a cocktail party.

Members adhere to ten golden rules, which include: to promote the Yacht Club and the Principality at every occasion, to actively participate in the sporting and social life of the YCM, to respect the YCM dress code at all official events, to fly the YCM flag on one’s yacht and to invite other members who share a passion for yachting.

On International Women’s Day, the Yacht Club de Monaco announced the very first women-only regatta in Monaco, called ‘Woman Leading and Sailing’. The Pink Wave team, a large group of YCM sailors of all levels, were responsible for organizing the regatta. A dozen crews each with five-women battled it out aboard their J/70s for the first Woman Leading and Sailing Trophy between 25–26 March 2023.

10th Monaco Energy Boat Challenge and the first YCM E-Boat Rally (3–8 July)

What better way to celebrate the future of yachting than by investigating alternative energy sources? The Monaco Energy Boat Challenge brings young engineers from colleges and universities around the world into contact with yachting industry players. The goal is to get creative by designing alternative propulsion systems, with everyone sharing information on open source. The first ever YCM E-Boat Rally will be held during this year’s event. A record number of electric boats is expected in Monaco’s harbour.

What to Wear at a Yacht Club for Lunch – Your Ultimate Guide!

What to wear at a yacht club for lunch

Heading to a yacht club for lunch can be an exciting experience, offering you the chance to relax and dine in an exquisite setting.

Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a regular attendee, choosing the proper attire is essential to ensure you fit in and feel comfortable.

This article will explore some of the best apparel choices to keep you looking stylish and appropriate for lunch at a yacht club.

Yacht clubs often uphold a certain level of elegance, but there’s no need to feel intimidated when selecting your outfit.

The key is to find a balance between being well-dressed and enjoying the casual ambiance. So here we go; below, you’ll find everything you need to know on what to wear at a yacht club for lunch.

Table of Contents

Yacht Club Dress Codes

Understanding dress codes.

When attending a lunch at a yacht club, it’s essential to understand the dress code beforehand. Yacht clubs typically have varying dress requirements depending on the event and time of day.

For a lunch event, you’ll most likely encounter a more casual dress code. It’s best to familiarize yourself with the club’s specific guidelines and adhere to them.

Common Yacht Club Dress Codes

At most yacht clubs, there are a few general rules to follow when dressing for lunch:

  • Shirts:  Opt for collared shirts like a classic polo or button-down. Avoid wearing tank tops or T-shirts.
  • Bottoms:  Choose comfortable and well-tailored pants, such as chinos or slacks. Shorts may be acceptable, but ensure they are a reasonable length and not too casual or distressed.
  • Footwear:  Wear closed-toe shoes like loafers or boat shoes. Don’t wear flip-flops. Yacht clubs don’t allow it.
  • Tops:  Select a blouse or a nice polished yet comfortable top. Avoid wearing strapless, revealing, or overly casual tops.
  • Bottoms:  Choose tailored pants, skirts, or dresses that are appropriate in length and style. Shorts are generally discouraged, although some yacht clubs may permit them if they are dressy and tailored.
  • Footwear:  Opt for comfortable and stylish footwear like flats, wedges, or sandals. The same as men, don’t wear flip-flops.

Lunch Clothing Options for Men

Formal attire.

When attending a yacht club for lunch and dressing in formal attire, opt for a classic combination of a crisp collared shirt, slacks, or chinos.

Ties are typically not necessary, but if you want to elevate your look, feel free to include one.

Light colors like white or pale blues are perfect for a summery vibe. Finish your outfit with comfortable loafers or boating shoes for a polished appearance.

Casual Attire

If you prefer a more casual approach, your options expand to include versatile pieces like polo shirts, t-shirts, or even tank tops, as long as they’re not too skimpy. Pair your top with boat shorts or loose pants to ensure comfort and a laid-back aesthetic.

Footwear-wise, swap the loafers for a pair of sandals or boat shoes that are easy to slip on and off at the dock.

When dressing for a yacht club lunch, keep it simple and remember that your comfort is key.

Choose lightweight and breathable fabrics, such as cotton and linen, to ensure you remain cool and stylish while enjoying the sea breeze.

Lunch Clothing Options for Women

Dresses and skirts.

When choosing a dress or skirt for lunch at a yacht club, opt for lightweight fabrics like linen or cotton. Go for knee-length or midi dresses in soft, flowy fabrics that provide comfort and style. A linen dress is a classic option. If you’re leaning more toward skirts, choose one that matches the dress code of the yacht club while still making you feel fashionable and comfortable.

Blouses and Pants

Lunch at a yacht club gives you the opportunity to experiment with different styles of blouses. Cotton and linen are the perfect materials for a summer blouse, providing a casual yet sophisticated look.

Pair your blouse with pants that are comfortable for the yacht setting, like tailored linen pants. Avoid overly tight or restrictive clothing. If you prefer jeans, opt for a dark wash to maintain a polished appearance.

Footwear Suggestions

Men’s footwear.

When it comes to men’s footwear at a yacht club for lunch, you’ll want to focus on practicality and style.

It’s important to wear  non-slip and non-marking outsole shoes to avoid slipping or marking the deck in case you get on board a boat.

Boat shoes are a popular and comfortable choice, offering a fashionable look while being yacht-appropriate.

If you prefer sandals, opt for sturdy ones that provide support and grip. Just remember, some boat owners may require you to leave your shoes on the dock before getting on board a yacht.

So you might want to have an alternative footwear option handy. Lastly, look for shoes with  white outsoles , as they don’t mark the deck, keeping the yacht clean and pristine.

Women’s Footwear

For women, the same basic principles apply. Make sure you choose shoes with a  non-slip and non-marking outsole  to avoid any accidents. Boat shoes and sturdy sandals are both fantastic options for combining style and practicality.

If your lunch takes place on a boat, don’t wear high heels , as they can be dangerous and may damage the deck. As mentioned above, you might be asked to leave your shoes on the dock, so having a backup pair is a good idea.

As with men’s footwear, opting for  white outsoles  ensures you won’t leave any marks on the boat, allowing you to focus on enjoying your lunch at the yacht club.

Accessorizing Your Outfit

When choosing jewelry for a yacht club lunch, aim for elegant but understated pieces. Stick to delicate necklaces, bracelets, and earrings, avoiding anything too flashy or clunky. For example, a simple gold or silver pendant can add the right touch of class without being over the top. Remember, you’re attending a lunch event, so keep your choices on the more casual side.

Hats and Sunglasses

Something that most yacht clubs forbid is wearing a hat inside the building.

This rule applies to both men and women. So if you plan to have lunch at the yacht club’s restaurant, you can’t wear a hat unless you sit on the yacht deck or on a balcony.

However, suppose you are allowed to wear one outside; opt for hats with wide brims or classic Panama hats to shield your face from the sun’s rays.

Sunglasses are another essential for a daytime event like a yacht club lunch. Look for pairs that offer full UV protection and complement your outfit. Classic shapes like aviators or wayfarers are versatile and timeless choices.

Just make sure your sunglasses don’t clash with your hat, and you’ll be well on your way to a perfectly accessorized outfit for a yacht club lunch.

Considering the Weather

When planning your outfit for a yacht club lunch, it’s important to consider the weather. In warmer temperatures, opt for light, breathable fabrics like linen or cotton.

A short-sleeved polo shirt or a blouse is an excellent choice for staying cool and comfortable. Women can also wear light sundresses or shorts with a tank top that isn’t too revealing.

In cooler or unpredictable weather, layering is key. Start with a collared shirt or a light blouse, and add a sweater or light jacket if needed.

Don’t forget to bring an umbrella or a water-resistant coat if there’s a chance of rain, and always have a pair of sunglasses on hand for those unexpectedly sunny moments.

When choosing your footwear, remember that you may be walking on wet surfaces or spending time outside. Avoid flip-flops and opt for non-slipping boating shoes , like Sperry, that offer both style and functionality. These shoes come in numerous styles, making it easy to find the perfect match for your outfit.

What to Avoid Wearing

When heading to a yacht club for lunch, there are a few fashion faux pas you should be mindful of. Remember, yacht clubs have a certain level of sophistication, and dressing appropriately is crucial.

First and foremost, avoid wearing any torn, stained, or worn clothing. Clothes with rips, holes, missing buttons, and stubborn stains are not suitable for the yacht club setting. Your outfit should be clean, well-maintained, and presentable.

As tempting as it may be to flaunt your summer style, steer clear of revealing clothing. Avoid items like denim shorts, tank tops, mini skirts, and cut-off shirts. Instead, opt for more modest attire that allows you to stay cool and look chic.

While you may love your comfortable flip-flops or sneakers, it’s not allowed to wear them to a yacht club lunch. These casual footwear options can come across as too casual and out of place. Instead, choose shoes that are stylish and comfortable but more refined.

Additionally, leave your baseball caps and other hats at home. Most yacht clubs prefer that men remove their caps when inside the venue, so it’s best to stick to this etiquette and keep the caps for actual sailing excursions.

Lastly, avoid dressing too casually with clothing like wrinkled or sloppy attire. Yacht club lunches often have a semi-formal or smart casual dress code, so make sure your outfit is polished and well-balanced between casual and formal elements.

Questions People Forten Ask

Q: What is the typical dress code for a yacht club lunch?

Yacht clubs often have a more relaxed dress code during lunchtime. Stylish casual wear, including clean, neat jeans and shorts, is usually acceptable. However, it’s always a good idea to check with the specific yacht club for their dress code guidelines.

Q: How formal should my attire be for a yacht club lunch?

Although the attire for a yacht club lunch is less formal than dinner, you should still aim to look polished and presentable. Opt for refined and comfortable clothing, such as dressy shorts, skirts, or pants paired with an elegant top. You may also want to consider wearing a light blazer to elevate your look.

Q: Are there any specific clothing items to avoid at a yacht club?

When attending a yacht club event, it is best to avoid overly casual clothing items, such as flip-flops, athletic wear, or torn clothing. It’s also recommended to leave the denim at home when attending a yacht club dinner, as mentioned in The Sailor ‘s Style Guide: How to Dress at a Yacht Club. Different areas of the club may have specific dress rules, so it’s always good to inquire ahead of time.

Q: How does a daytime yacht club event differ in dress code?

Daytime events at yacht clubs tend to have a more relaxed dress code compared to evening events. For day events, it is appropriate to wear casual yet polished clothing like shorts, skirts, and light dresses. However, as the sun sets and nighttime events begin, expect the dress code to become more formal, often requiring sports coats or cocktail attire.

Q: Do yacht clubs have a specific dress code to follow when dining?

Yacht clubs usually have a more formal dress code for dining, especially during dinner. In most cases, sports coats are expected, and denim should be avoided. For ladies, sophisticated dresses or skirts with elegant tops are appropriate. Check with the yacht club you are attending to ensure you follow their specific rules and guidelines for dining attire.

Final Words!

Now that you have an idea of the appropriate attire, you’re set to enjoy a delightful lunch at the yacht club. Dress to impress, adhere to the dress code, and don’t forget to indulge in the delicious food and beautiful views the club has to offer.

Loved your article.  It’s very well put together and will be really helpful to someone who will be attending a lunch as a guest at a yacht club.   Even though many clubs have relaxed their dress code, it’s so much nicer to dress well for lunch at such a nice venue.  Your article will make sure that a new visitor to the yacht club doesn’t make an error and inadvertently break the dress code.

Thank you for your kind words! I’m glad to hear that you found my article helpful and informative. I completely agree that dressing well for lunch at a yacht club is a great way to show respect for the venue and the occasion. While some clubs have relaxed their dress codes, it’s always better to err on the side of caution and dress appropriately. I’m happy to hear that my article will help new visitors avoid any potential dress code mishaps. Thank you again for your feedback, and I wish you all the best in your future yacht club visits!

What a beautiful website! This “how-to” type post was very informative about how to dress if you are having lunch at a yacht club. There are many practical suggestions that will make a first time visitor feel comfortable. This article provides all one needs to know about proper dress etiquette for yacht clubs in general.  Yacht clubs promote boating and cruising, and provide social meeting place for the boating community. Do you have to own a boat or sea vessel to join a yacht club? Do yacht clubs screen potential members financial standing or backgrounds before they are accepted? Do potential members have to be sponsored by a member of the yacht club to join? All I need now is to be invited to lunch at our local yacht club. I know just what to wear. Thanks.

Thank you for your comment! I am glad to hear that you found my website beautiful and informative, particularly the “how-to” post on dressing for lunch at a yacht club. I strive to provide practical suggestions that will make first-time visitors feel comfortable and confident in any setting. As for your questions about yacht clubs, boat owners are not always required to join, and some clubs do screen potential members based on financial standing or background. Additionally, some clubs may require sponsorship from a current member in order to join. I hope that this information is helpful, and I wish you the best of luck in being invited to lunch at your local yacht club!

monaco yacht club restaurant dress code

Greetings From Antarctica! Quick question: I will be attending the Grand Prix in May and will be there The Thursday through the Monday after the Race. I may or May not have a female companion with me. My question is what is the dress code for males and females for a place like Jimmy' Z's, and Amber lounge and for also attending a Yacht Party?

' class=

Hello Art, I would say for a man, it's whatever you feel comfortable in. Jeans and a great shirt up to a well cut suit will all work for you. For a woman, it's as glamorous as you want to make it. Bear in mind that shoes are generally removed on the yachts, so a dress needs to work in bare feet and trousers cut so they don't drag on the deck.

Thanks Moth!

' class=

Bear in mind that if you are viewing the race from a yacht you will likely access it from the port / fontvielle by tender and climb a ladder to get on board...no problem for gents but the tender pilot and other guests will be lower as you climb so you might want to give the lady you're with a heads up in case she prefers to wear a longer dress to protect her modesty as she climbs the ladder.

How to Dress to Impress at a Monaco F1 Yacht Party

Few things in life scream opulence quite like a cocktail party on a superyacht in Monaco — for the Grand Prix weekend. And when the F1 comes to town, a special buzz takes hold of Monte Carlo. You’ll feel it all around the winding streets in town and on the fine teak decks of the superyachts floating in the harbour. It’s party time, and if ever there was a time to dress to impress, this is it.

So if you’re wondering what you should wear for a Monaco Grand Prix yacht party ? Well, wonder no more, because we’re here to share some expert tips. Welcome to our Monaco F1 style guide.

Selecting the perfect attire for Monaco’s best yacht cocktail party

Ultimate Driving Tours has been hosting cocktail parties in Monaco for over a decade, and we know that if it’s your first time visiting this gorgeous principality, you might find it a little daunting deciding what to wear. After all, Monte Carlo is one of the world’s chicest fashion capitals, and people here seem to have an innate sense of style and the ability to dress perfectly for any occasion. So, no pressure right?!

But with a little bit of knowledge and some careful selections, you can put together perfect outfits which will have you looking and feeling great all weekend long, ensuring you get the most out of your incredible Grand Prix weekend. Each year, we welcome a diverse mix of stylish guests aboard our yacht as part of our European Supercar Tour , so we thought we’d share some tips on how to dress to impress.

Monaco Grand Prix fashion: what if there’s a dress code?

The Monaco Grand Prix is the perfect opportunity to flaunt your sense of style, but if you’re planning to enjoy premium hospitality at the Champions Club or Paddock Club, a smart casual dress code will apply.

For men, smart casual means trousers and an open-collared shirt with a blazer or jacket. Shoes should be closed and polished styles such as loafers or Oxfords. For women, a dress, skirt (pencil or flowing type) or pantsuit is recommended along with a pair of heels, wedges, loafers or some smart ankle boots. Shorts are not recommended for men or women.

What it’s like at the Ultimate Driving Tours Monaco yacht party

The cocktail party aboard our chartered superyacht is always a highlight of Grand Prix weekend. We host our cocktail party on Friday night, and it always sets the tone for a great weekend of racing and celebrations.

The vibe at the party is lively, so Anthony and I like to wear comfortable yet stylish outfits which will transition smoothly from sunset into the night. A jacket and pants with an open-collared shirt works for me, but some guests like to go all out with classic cocktail attire. And everyone always has an absolute blast regardless of what they wear!

Is there a theme for the cocktail party?

Our cocktail party has a Euro-chic theme. It’s a modern theme emphasising comfort over formality. That means there isn’t a strict dress code, and guests are encouraged to express themselves with their outfits.

So, cocktail attire is welcome but is by no means mandatory. I love seeing guests embrace the spirit of the Cote d’Azur in their outfit choices; linen shirts, colourful jackets and trousers for the men, and vibrant dresses and snappy jumpsuits for the ladies.

If you’re keen to buy an outfit while you’re on the tour, Nice’s Old Town has plenty of boutiques and shops that offer clothing in this style. Don’t be shy with your selections — remember, this weekend is as much about enjoying life’s special indulgences as it is about Formula 1.

Guests come here to sip champagne, admire the views from the yacht, and mix and mingle with like-minded people. And people in Monaco do enjoy showing off, so if you’re worried your outfit might be too ostentatious, don’t be.

Weather in Monaco on Grand Prix weekend

Weather is always a consideration when selecting your outfit, and the weather in May in Monaco can be changeable. One day it might be around 22℃ (71℉), and the next might be cooler, around 15℃ (59℉). And there’s always the chance of rain, so I recommend packing a range of clothing options to cover your bases.

On the water, temperatures can drop quickly once the sun goes down. Over the Grand Prix weekend, guests spend all day Saturday and Sunday aboard the yacht celebrating, so I always recommend bringing a hat for during the day, and a warm jacket so you can enjoy yourself well into the night without worrying about getting cold.

What is cocktail attire?

Cocktail attire is a semi-formal dress code. As the name suggests, it’s commonly worn to cocktail parties, but can also be worn to weddings, a day at the races, or an evening party.

While it’s less formal than black tie, cocktail attire calls for a suit jacket and trousers for men, and a semi-formal dress or pantsuit for women. The fun part is that unlike black tie, there’s room to get creative with colours and matching the individual elements of your outfit. Monaco is always full of snappy dressers, so you’ll definitely see some pretty impressive outfits as you explore Monte Carlo.

If you’re heading out on the town in Monaco, some venues may require a formal dress code, but in general, things are more relaxed than they were in years gone by.

These days, you don’t need to dress like James Bond to play the tables at Monte Carlo Casino — but you might attract a few admirers should you choose to do so.

Cocktail attire for men

Traditional cocktail attire for men means an elegant jacket and trousers. Cocktail attire is more formal than business casual, but less formal than black tie. The aim is to dress smart but you don’t need to follow the rules as strictly as you do with the more formal dress codes.

Prada, Ermenegildo Zegna and Paul Smith are all known for their jackets and remain great choices with colour and material options ranging from understated to extroverted.

Canali, Fendi and Alexander McQueen offer great fitting trousers including some lighter materials like seersucker and linen. These can be great for warmer days.

Classic leather Oxford shoes from brands like Tom Ford and Chrisian Louboutin remain popular. For a more relaxed outfit, I love the loafers from Bally.

Accessories

I like to keep my accessories fairly simple with an understated watch, and I might add an extra splash of colour with a pocket square.

Cocktail attire for women

Alexander McQueen and Just Cavalli offer some modern twists on the classic midi dress, and for jumpsuits, Dolce & Gabbana, Band of Outsiders or Fendi.

Tom Ford, Jimmy Choo and Valentino make some of the most incredible shoes that are sure to turn heads.

A clutch, some earrings and a necklace will see you shining bright even when the sun goes down. Fendi, Tory Burch and Stella McCartney make some of the best clutches.

Superyacht cocktail party FAQs

We field a bunch of questions each year about how the cocktail party works and how to dress for the superyacht — here are a few tips and tricks to make your yacht party experience as comfortable as possible.

Can I wear my shoes on your superyacht?

On most superyachts, the answer is no. However, unlike many, our yacht has protective carpeting, meaning you can wear whatever footwear you desire, including heels. There’s no basket full of designer shoes on our yacht. For the ladies, block heels and wedges are popular shoe choices as they provide more comfort and stability than stilettos.

Is there a dress code at your cocktail party?

We don’t enforce a strict dress code. Our advice is to wear comfortable and smart clothing that will let you transition from day into night without needing to change. For men, a full suit is not required, but a jacket is recommended. For women, we recommend a dress, jumpsuit or similar.

Does it get cold at night in Monaco?

The average low temperature for Monaco in May is around 13℃ (55℉). It’s not icy cold, but a jacket will ensure you don’t get chilly as the night wears on.
