What a gem of a find, situated right at the Double Bay ferry stop, you enter a club that has a small outdoor deck with shade umbrellas overlooking the harbour. Inside you have a bar with informal bar tables with a great view over the deck and harbour. It also has a dining area that is slightly a little more formal (tables are set) the whole place is a relaxed atmosphere. Considering it is upmarket Double Bay, the wine list offers inexpensive choices and it has a great pub-style menu. Even though it is summer I had the seafood chowder and it was to die for. Simply amazing and must say I will be back for more. The bread roll was fresh and served warm with real butter. A glass of sparkling mineral water topped it off nicely.

Disclaimer: the 4 stars is purely for the location. Here's a verbal visual (is that even a word) of what this place looks like. You walk through the doors and directly ahead of you is the heart of this place, a front desk manned by someone who could possibly have been the dunce in her hospitality class - no joke, she was a real piece of work (but more about her later). To your right is the kitchen, the bathrooms and what looked like offices of some sort (this is a sailing club after all). To your left is where all the money is - turn here and head for the deck. As you pass the bar to your left, be sure to stop and chat to the exceptional barmen and have them mix up a cocktail for you. Sneak in a mandatory scan of the folk eating on your right as you step out onto the deck, and what a deck it is !!! Take it in kids, take in that view and just be. There are only 6 or 7 tables out there so there may be a little argy bargy to grab a table but once seated, be prepared to grow some roots. Look through their bar menu and head back in to order at the front desk (remember? the front desk manned by the soup nazi herself?). Make sure you are 100% sure of what you want to order otherwise you WILL be made to feel like you have all of 10secs to order before the buzzer goes off and you lose the game !!! After copping a mouthful from her (how dare i ask her what came with some of the dishes), I settled on the chicken salad - the chicken was grilled to perfection and the salad was super crisp and sooo refreshing - spot on for a warm summer afternoon. if you're umming and ahhing about this place - don't - just go, its as simple as that.

Nothing better than having a drink with this view during Christmas!!

This place is a bar. Do not be fooled by their food menu. If you treat it like a bar you might be rewarded with great views, ample seating near the water, and plenty of drinks options. If you instead treat it like a lunch spot like I did you will be disappointed. I ordered the fish and chips and almost spat out a bite with the horrible tartar sauce. Is it so hard to make your own? Do you have to buy the glue with pickle relish hawked at the restaurant supply depot? In my opinion, if you can't get fish and chips right you have no business selling food but 18 Footer will continue to do so. You're only choice is to avoid eating it.

What a lovely place to sit and have lunch over looking the water and the beach. The food was good, had some lamb chops which were very taste and the others at the table had a seafood platter - all I can say it was massive! The staff are great and very helpful and very nice to sit at a table for lunch which had a table cloth!

Pull up a perch on the waterfront deck of this Double Bay icon and feel about as up close and personal with Sydney Harbour as it gets. Grab a coldie or a chardie and forget your city woes as you watch the world sail by. Entry protocol is standard club practice. Upmarket club grub with a fitting focus on seafood is hearty, consistent and clearly a winner with the punters. The dining room is always packed... oysters every way and trusty fish n chips are star performers and highly recommended. Windows wrap interiors with uninterrupted water views and a recent revamp presents the place in great contemporary nick. Try your luck on the pokies and finish up with a stroll along the Harbour foreshore, say hi to the resident gaggle of geese and even catch the ferry from this bustling wharf space. Better yet, board the spectator ferry on race day to follow the Skiffs in the thick of offshore shenanigans.

Stopped here for a coffee while cruising around Sydney, and it was a delightful little spot. Only downside was the horrible classism of the lady next to us who complained incessantly about the "ordinary little yap yaps" and their unrefined habits and accents. Other than that I'd happily go back for a drink, even if the food seems a bit overpriced.

A wonderful venue with excellent service and a stunning location. The food here is very good, thoughtfully prepared and delicious. A favorite with friends and family. Excellent bar.

Questions and answers (3)

Hi does your club accept other sailing club membership for entry. thanks, is a special function in new year eve. is there a party on new years eve. is the restaurant open and until what time, is the rest open on good friday.

Great view, food ok

Perfect place. So peaceful

Great venue. Great views.

This place has a fantastic view overlooking the bay of Double bay. The bar and restaurant staff is friendly and professional. The food is good and above pub quality and is reasonably priced considering the location and the views. We had mostly good experiences here and a occasional bad one, but the issue has always been resolved by the restaurant staff. The 18 Footers yacht club is located right next to the ferry terminal in Double bay. This is a club under the nsw club act, so you need to be a either a member, guest of a member or live out side the 5 km radius to be able to sign-in as a non member. It can get busy here so if your not a member there is a chance you can’t get in, especially nowadays with Covid capacity restrictions. Tip! To avoid disappointments have a reservation and book a table in the restaurant for lunch or dinner.

Birthday party lunch. Took the ferry from central to double bay Stepped off the ferry and its there on the same pier. Food was excellent fresh seafood. Drinks on the balcony overlooking double bay waters. Great day.

Sharon Fell

Relaxed atmosphere. Great food. Great service. Terrific views. Ferry right at the doorstep. But you do pay for food and drinks separately.

Great views. Can catch a ferry there. Delicious food. Friendly staff. Cold beer. Tables well spaced.

I had dinner with friends at 18 Footers Bar and Restaurant on Valentine’s Day. The service staff were really nice and friendly and helpful with the menu and willing to make changes for us. The food portions were quite large and pretty tasty. You just needed to order your drinks at the bar.

anne mellick

Wonderful setting on the Harbour Indoor and outdoor dining. Good food

Great place to catch up with friends. Nice wines and friendly service.

Ratings and reviews, location and contact.

We were able to sign in as Guests which was pretty straightforward. It’s in a great location so ordered a couple of Beers and enjoyed the view out the back overlooking the Bay. Nothing to do with this place but there was a huge party... of younger people who were waiting for their Charter Boat to arrive which is slap bang next to 18 and, to put it mildly, were extremely raucous! So much so that we decided to call it a day and move on. The place however looked really good and had an interesting and varied Menu. The people there were also pretty friendly. More

Nice place to swing by for a drink (or food) and look at the boats in the bay. It’s a members club but if you are not from the area you can visit as a guest. If you coming off the ferry from circular quay... then it’s right on the jetty. Good for a drink and nice views More

18 ft yacht club double bay

A great spot right on the water with views onto parts of Sydney Harbour, it is a club with membership but public can also have access as well with I/D and living I think 8 klms away from the area. Good food at reasonable prices,... but the wines can be expensive. Had been here some 33 odd years ago and the whole place have had great renovations, good place for a quiet relaxing meal. More

So myself and my family went to grab dinner one night, and I had been talking about having pasta all night. We go in, grab our seats, and order entrees. We get chips, and a waitress tells us the wrong ones, but we didn't realise,... because we were told those were ours. We grab them. This German beer lady (an older lady, reasonably short, with grey and brown hair- who looks pretty harsh), as a stranger had commented, comes up to us, and very aggressively says that we took the wrong chips, without leaving us room to apologise or explain the situation, or even buy the chips! she came, was aggressive, and then left quickly with the chips, but that was just a small inconvenience- if that was it, I wouldn't bother writing a review. Myself and my father went up to place the order for our table, Now, it had been a while since we got the chips, and we had looked over the menu. I was talking about getting the beef ragu, and my father was getting the same. We go up to order, and it's the german beer lady. We use this time to apologise and say we would've paid for those chips, seeing as though we ate some, if she had given us time to stop her and say this. We order I say "1 calamari, 1 (other type of pasta, that I can't remember the name of), and 2 beef ragus" Now, my father had been suspicious that she hadn't heard us say beef ragu, and wanted to make sure she got the order right, so he said 'You got 2 beef ragus, right?' and she didn't say a word to this we pay, hope everything is fine, and sit down. A little while later, our buzzer goes off. My father and I go up again to get our food. The first two meals were correct, but our beef ragus were suddenly burgers. I was surprised and thought that they might just not be finished with it, when (surprise surprise) arrives the german beer lady. We ask her about it, and she says 'no, no YOU have gotten it wrong, YOU ordered this ___" (she took absolutely no blame) and i was like "Uh, sorry no, We both got the beef ragus?' she continued to heavily, and aggressively, dispute this fact, then shows us the note, where she wrote our orders, and it said, in very messy hand writing, 2 burgers. We were very clear with what we said, I had been talking about pasta all night, and my family are very clear, sometimes a little loud, speakers. So we were sure we said this correctly, especially since there were two of us there when ordering. This german beer lady ruined my night. Make sure if you go, don't let her take your order. She will get it wrong. She is deaf. The burger was okay. Just not what I wanted. More

Yet again had a fantstic meal here. the views are lovely overlooking the harbour. the food is great, we always have seafood, but meat and fish dishes are available. Can recomment the Dory and the Fettucine Prawns.

Don't come here if you are a pregnant lady! I am 40 weeks pregnant and came for ONE glass of champagne to celebrate our pending arrival only to be told by a staff member (who looked about 12!) that I wasn't allowed and that drinking... whilst pregnant was illegal and extremely hazadous. I didn't come to a skiff club to be lectured by some ignorant waiter about my medical position. Get your policies into gear! And perhaps train your staff about what is legal and illegal within NSW and how to treat your customers! More

After standing like a lemon waiting about 10 minutes for someone to serve me I was told they can’t make iced lattes, only hot coffees!? The lady was very rude. Then got charged $10 for the most average and small serving of chips. Would not... recommend to anyone More

Food was average. Had chipped potatoes that had been reheated so often there was practically no potato left. Friends enjoyed there meals but it was noticeable that everybody ( 4 of us) only ate half the food.. Gets pretty noisy when bar is full. The... location is excellent overlooking the water and boats. More

We took some overseas visitors here for lunch today. The venue is just beautiful and the dining rooms is decked out nicely and quite modern. Our guests were keen to have true fish and chips and the 18ft skiff club didn’t disappoint. The servings were... substantial. I had barramundi atop ratatouille and my husband had sole. All enjoyed our meals, the weather and view were perfect. What we would have paid for two meals in upmarket popular Bondi restaurants, paid for all four of us here, with an alcoholic beverage for each included. More

We have been members for many years and appreciate the consistency of excellent food and service. The produce is always fresh . We like very much the variety of grilled fish, steaks and salads prepared with a Greek style touch. Simple and honest food presented... in a wonderful setting on Double bay waterfront on the ferry pier. More

As harbour side dining experiences go the 18 footers is simply delightful. A glass of champagne on the deck outside at sunset and I fell in love with this place. Positioned on the Double Bay ferry wharf it looks out over Darling Point and Point... Piper. Food and Wine is excellent. The staff were fabulous. Parking easy and of course you can catch a ferry to their front door. Highly recommend trying this place apparently known affectionately as the “Brown Box”. More

A work colleague told me about the restaurant as I was entertaining friends from way out west. I tried to book in for Sunday lunch however only members can do that and was advised to just turn up and there would be a good chance... we would get a table for four - we did and there was, with a small wait in the bar. A good selection of dishes and wines at reasonable prices and even better if you were a member. The staff were friendly and efficient and the food was very good - three fish and one curried prawns with excellent oysters for starters. the food was so good and the discounts for members substantial (not that the non members prices were not good) I went back and joined the club as I only live a few kilometres away. Give it a go, its club dining in a great location with friendly staff and good value fare. More

My wife and I had lunch here today with family.the club is right next to the ferry which is handy. The staff are Friendly and obliging. The club is right on the harbour with wonderful views. The club can get noisy over lunch which makes... it difficult for conversation. The drinks are a little pricey we had 2 smiddys which cost 15 dollars. The meals are good with generous serves i had the flathead fillets my wife had john dory.the bara looked good too. But again were a little pricey at 34 dollars each.if i had to rate the meals out of ten i would rate them as a 3 out of ten. I'm reluctant to be to critical because it is such a lovely venue. And again the staff are really pleasant. And it is worth a visit when your in town. Graeme 😎😎😎😎 More

My husband and I were visiting Sydney (we're from Melbourne) and we ate here on our first night. The menu selection was very impressive and the food was great. The beer & wine prices were very reasonable. The service was friendly and the view was... gorgeous. Very popular with locals too. More

We returned here after a very disappointing visit last year. We were pleasantly welcomed. The food has most definitely improved. Sea food is freshly cooked and tasty. Service by young and friendly staff lifts the experience as does the peaceful ambience of a music free... Wednesday night. Paper table 'cloths' are a disappointment. The inconvenience of requiring separate payments for drinks and food persists. Perhaps it's a reflection on the management that in an era where we transplant hearts into each other and get rocket ships to Mars, a method of combining two bills into one defeats them. More
