Below Deck Sailing Yacht’s Captain Glenn Shephard Gives Update on Dani Soares and Jean-Luc’s Co-Parenting of Daughter Lilly Rose, Plus Cast’s Reaction

Avid Below Deck Sailing Yacht fans will definitely recall the paternity drama that unfolded between former stew Dani Soares and deckhand Jean-Luc Cerza-Launaux during their respective season on the franchise.

Although the two have apparently sorted out the paternity drama, their former boss, Captain Glenn Shephard , is giving us an update on how the couple is co-parenting following their split.

Speaking to Us Weekly , Glenn said Jean-Luc has somewhat stepped up to the plate and has “some involvement now” in daughter Lilly Rose’s life. He has even started up a college fund for her.

“I know that [Jean-Luc] has some involvement now with [his and Dani’s] baby. I heard that he’s setting up a college fund and that he talks to her regularly on zoom because they’re far apart,” Glenn told the outlet at the NBCUniversal Upfront on Monday, May 16. “[Dani is] in Australia and his boat is in the states. He has to keep working obviously and I don’t think he can go to Australia and start a job.”

Glenn admits he gets most of his updates on the couple through secondhand sources, but he added that he thinks Jean-Luc should do more, especially after adamantly dismissing the child as his own in the past.

“I was asking someone what’s his involvement because it’s been a while. Personally, I think he should do more. But I don’t know all the details. I’m not that close with them so I can’t really speak to it,” Glenn shared.

Viewers saw the whole drama play out on their screens between Dani and Jean-Luc.

“Let’s put it this way, this baby was made during the season while we had cameras 24/7 with us and I only slept with one guy,” Dani said in June 2021. “He hasn’t supported me at all in any way. He thinks it is not his child and he doesn’t want to have anything to do with it,” Dani said.

Several months after Dani gave birth to Lilly Rose, and after a paternity test that was demanded by Jean-Luc, he finally claimed the child as his own.

“I’m happy and proud to say sweet and beautiful Lilly Rose is my daughter,” he wrote in an Instagram post in January. “Dani and I have been working and communicating together to the best of our ability. This is imperative [to work out] for the sake of our daughter as she needs both parents in her life.”

Sometimes words just come a little too late, Jean-Luc. And Dani and her former castmates apparently agree.

Current Below Deck Down Under star and former Below Deck Sailing Yacht stew Alli Dore  told Us Weekly at the time, “I feel like after all the back and forth that happened and all the things that were said about Dani, there should have been a public apology in there to her.”

Chief engineer Colin MacRae also had some choice words for his former co-star, saying, “It’s never too late to redeem yourself with actions, but this pathetic attempt at owning up to being a father just for the sake of social media, with a complete lack of any form of support in real life, gains no respect from me whatsoever. Which is a crying shame because every child deserves to have a father.”

According to Captain Glenn, Dani and Jean-Luc appear to be making some headway in the line of co-parenting. Here’s hoping it continues.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht star Jean-Luc "J.L." Cerza-Lanaux has come forward to confirm he is the father of Dani Soares' baby

Nearly eight months after the birth of Soares' daughter Lilly Rose , deckhand Cerza-Lanaux announced that the baby girl is his daughter in a lengthy Instagram post on Wednesday.

"As the year 2021 came to a close. A new year in 2022 begins with high ambitions and positivity. My silence on social media has been intentional and much needed. I used that time to focus on what was important to me and my mental health," he began. "I can't let 2022 go any further without sharing some beautiful news. An international DNA test that was done awhile ago was no small feat. I'm happy and proud to say Sweet and beautiful Lilly rose is my daughter."

Cerza-Lanaux, 26, went on to share that he and Soares, 33, have been learning to co-parent as best they can given their busy schedules.

"Dani and I have been working and communicating together to the best of our ability; given Dani is a full time mother and worker, and I being gone for extended periods of time not knowing when I will step back on land. This is imperative for the sake of our daughter as she needs both parents in her life," he explained.

"With that being said, going forward, I will no longer feel the need to explain myself to anybody, when realizing people only understand from their level of perception," he continued. "I am thankful for my friends, and family who have stuck by my side through thick and thin. As I look forward to this new year with new opportunities, I will be striving to be the best man and father that I can be. God bless."

Following the birth of Lilly in May, rumors had been swirling that deckhand Cerza-Lanaux was the father, ever since a preview for the Bravo show's season 2 reunion showed Soares saying that her baby's father is keeping a distance from her and his offspring .

"He thinks it's not his child, he doesn't want to have anything to do with it," Soares said in a teaser for the episode back in June.

"I'm not going to badmouth anybody because my daughter is going to see everything that I'm saying, everything that I'm doing and I don't want her to see things going back and forth on social media or things being said in a moment of anger," Soares told PEOPLE at the time. "As I said, the door's always open, but you need to do more than just talk. You need to actually have some action, do some action."

"The father was part of it, I didn't make her alone," she added of her daughter. "So, if he wants to be part of her life obviously [he can]. But he needs to do more than talk."

At the time, Cerza-Lanaux tried to "clear the air" in an Instagram post, hitting back at Soares' reunion comments in the process.

"While others are off chasing their 15 minutes of fame, I am working on a yacht in Central America and heartbroken to have to hear about the baby's birth on social media and read headlines like ' Dani Soares Says Her Baby's Father Doesn't Want Anything to Do With It ,' Cerza-Lanaux wrote. "All I can say is if she's mine, I want to be involved 100%."

"As someone who grew up with parents who weren't together, I wouldn't wish that on any child," he added. "Not looking for a pity party. Just want everyone to know how strongly I feel about this, especially the haters who are so sure I am neglecting my responsibility. No one wants to know more than me if this is my baby girl!"

When Bravo Insider caught up with Captain Glenn Shephard , Daisy Kelliher , Gary King , and Colin MacRae as they get ready to return for Season 3 of Below Deck Sailing Yacht , the yachties revealed whether or not they keep in touch with Dani and Jean-Luc, which you can hear all about in the exclusive video, above.

It was actually Colin who had the most scoop on the Below Deck Sailing Yacht alums. When asked if he has met Dani's daughter, Lilly , who will celebrate her first birthday in May , Colin said that he had not yet been introduced to the stew's little one. However, he noted that he and Dani "talk all the time." "She sends me videos and photos of the baby," Colin added. "Yeah, I'm super happy for her."

As for Jean-Luc, Colin also had some juicy intel. "I reached out to Jean-Luc a couple of times. He was in Panama City when I was . I could actually see the boat that he was working on. And I said, 'Do you want to meet up?' You know, because there was a bit of tension online about the whole him and Dani thing," Colin said. "And he didn't message me back."

Of course, sparks didn't just fly between Dani and Jean-Luc last season. Gary also found himself romantically involved with Alli Dore amid a bit of a love triangle with Sydney Zaruba . But, as we also learned at the Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 2 reunion, Alli had moved on with her boyfriend, Benny Thompson , and was even expecting her first child , later welcoming a baby boy in August .

Jean-Luc Cerza-Lanaux and Dani Soares' boatmance on Season 2 of "Below Deck Sailing Yacht" was one of the messiest in "Below Deck" history. The two met during their first and only season and after some flirting, they took their relationship to the next level, per Screen Rant . Soares, who is eight years older than Cerza-Lanaux, was clear that she wanted something serious and even hinted to him about having a baby together, via Us Weekly . "I want to have babies, I want to get married. Do you want to do that? Let's have sex tonight. And if I get pregnant? That's God's will," she told Cerza-Lanaux in an episode.

Cerza-Lanaux and Soares left "Below Deck Sailing Yacht" Season 2 together and it looked as if they were ready to take their romance onto land. Fans were curious to know if their relationship survived after the show. Cerza-Lanaux told Meaww , "Me and Dani aboard Parsifal found an escape you could say in one another ... I think the viewers are going to see how things pan out between me and Dani really soon so I don't want to spill the beans yet, you guys just have to stay tuned." In April 2021, Soares revealed on Instagram that she was pregnant and many wondered if Cerza-Lanaux was the father , which she surprisingly revealed during the Season 2 reunion.

Dani Soares named Jean-Luc Cerza-Lanaux as the father of her baby

During the "Below Deck Sailing Yacht" Season 2 reunion, Dani Soares stated that Jean-Luc Cerza-Lanaux was indeed the father of her baby. "Well, let's put it this way, this baby was made during the season while we had cameras 24/7 with us and I only slept with one guy," Soares stated, via ET . She then told host Andy Cohen that Cerza-Lanaux didn't think the baby was his and said that he "doesn't want to have anything to do with it." Soares read a text from him: "Don't go around telling people I'm the dad of this child. And I want a DNA test."

In a separate conversation with Andy Cohen during the reunion, Cerza-Lanaux stated that he wanted to be involved in the baby's life and would even move to Australia where Soares lives, per Us Weekly . In May 2021, Soares announced the arrival of her baby girl on Instagram . "She is here. She is perfect. And we trying to figure this thing out."

The following June, Cerza-Lanaux posted on Instagram , "There's a lot of gossip about my social media silence so I think it's time to clear the air ... I am working on a yacht in Central America and heartbroken to have to hear about the baby's birth on social media and read headlines ... All I can say is if she's mine, I want to be involved 100%." Suffice it to say, fans were not happy with the deckhand.

Jean-Luc Cerza-Lanaux finally took a paternity test

Jean-Luc Cerza-Lanaux angered fans yet again when he posted a baby picture of himself on Instagram and made excuses for why he didn't want to take a paternity test. In January 2022, he finally confirmed that he was the father of Dani Soares' baby. "I can't let 2022 go any further without sharing some beautiful news. An international DNA test that was done awhile ago was no small feat. I'm happy and proud to say Sweet and beautiful Lilly rose is my daughter," he wrote on Instagram . He went on to say that he and Soares had been talking and he had every intention of being in his daughter's life.

Unfortunately, it seems as if Cerza-Lanaux did not step up to the plate after the paternity reveal. His "Below Deck Sailing Yacht" castmates expressed their disappointment in him. "She has not received a single piece of financial, let alone moral, support from JL. His deceptive Instagram post was an absolutely false portrayal of his and her relationship as 'coparents,'" Colin MacRae told Us Weekly . Gary King also alleged that Cerza-Lanaux was an absent father. "It's all good in saying stuff on social media but words are completely different to actions and if his actions spoke louder than his words, then it would be different, but at the moment they're not."

As of now, Soares is raising Lilly in Australia as a single mother while Cerza-Lanaux is living his best life traveling the world, per his Instagram .

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 2 Reunion Part 2 Recap: JL, You…Are The Father?

Part 1 of the Below Deck Sailing Yacht reunion aired last night. And in the quickest turnaround in Bravo history, we got Part 2 just one day later — in lieu of a new Real Housewives of New York City . And after watching an hour of arguing over pita, this is the episode we’ve all been waiting for. Will questions finally be answered? Will the mystery of Dani Soares ‘ surprise pregnancy finally be solved? Is Jean-Luc Cerza Lanaux the father? Let’s find out!

But first, we have to endure more relationship drama from Parisfal’s resident throuple. At the end of Part 1, Gary King claimed Alli Dore didn’t have feelings for him, just like he didn’t have feelings for Sydney Zaruba . Huh? Apparently, the math of love triangles is too far out of the first officer’s academic depth. Alli fires back that of course this isn’t true. If she didn’t have feelings for him, she never would’ve dated him on the boat. Furthermore, the third stew also points out that she seemed to be the only one taking anyone else’s feelings into account in this whole mess. Or, like, what’s right and what’s wrong. Then she drops a bombshell: Gary actually had a girlfriend when he hooked up with Sydney on the first night.

What?? This is news, and I don’t understand why production didn’t include this little tidbit in the season’s narrative. Or how Gary so successfully kept it off camera. But that’s why Alli didn’t feel like she was breaking any sort of girl code. Because Sydney had already put herself in the middle of Gary’s relationship. In Alli’s eyes, Sydney’s tearful explanation for her behavior doesn’t count as an apology. The deckhand is much more upset over how she was portrayed on the show than how she treated her bunkmate.

Then, once Sydney does attempt to apologize, Alli calls it out for being insincere. After all, if she really cared about Alli as a friend, why wait until the reunion to speak with her? Why not pick up the phone and apologize one-on-one for all your callous, mean-spirited confessional sound bytes? However, the one piece of good news is that both women seem to be over Gary . Thank goodness. Sydney’s apparently dating a captain now. And Alli announces that she’s 20 weeks pregnant with her new boyfriend! This last surprise is absolutely news to Gary, but he handles it in stride and seems genuinely happy for Alli. Now can we please lay this love triangle to rest? Forever?

Of Crossings and Closure

Next, Andy Cohen is as curious as the rest of us as to what happened during the crossing to Spain once the season wrapped. Gary , Alli , Sydney and Natasha de Bourg all stayed on with Captain Glenn Shephard . But we only saw bits and pieces of the journey through self-filmed snippets on the crew’s phones. Gary claims that the crossing was where he and Alli finally solidified their relationship status. And yet, it only lasted until they spotted land. Because at the end of the day, Alli was always headed back to Australia.

At this point, Colin Macrae pipes in to inform us that he and Gary remain good pals. It just became clear to him during filming that he was wasting his breath when it came to giving Gary advice he never had any intention of taking. As for Alli and Sydney , there’s no closure there. It’ll take more than one segment of a virtual reunion to fix those wounds. ( Daisy Kelliher , meanwhile, is three sheets to the wind at this point and hilariously knocking her camera over.) To just put a pin in this, Alli admits she ultimately forgave Gary for something she shouldn’t have. But thee point is, it’s all over and done with now. Let’s move on.

Dani’s Having a Baby!

Finally, it’s time to discuss wha we’ve all been waiting for: Dani ‘s pregnancy! Once the charter season ended, Dani and Jean-Luc spent some time together, with the stew trying to convince the deckhand their relationship would never work in their real lives. Then, surprise! Dani discovered she was pregnant while quarantining alone back in Australia. When Andy asks point blank if JL is the baby’s father, she has a simple answer. The baby was very clearly made during the season, and she was only sleeping with one person. However, despite some initial enthusiasm, JL now refuses to believe it’s his child and hasn’t supported Dani in any way during her pregnancy.

Around New Year’s Jean-Luc even had the audacity to demand a paternity test. But since Dani told him to pay for it, he’s conveniently put it off and put it off. The rest of the crew seems completely appalled by JL’s actions. Any respect any of them once had for him during the season is long gone. Gary says his former deckhand “doesn’t have a spine,” though Dani insists she’s not trying to slander him or drag him through the mud. If anything, she wishes he had shown up to the reunion to share his side of the story and defend himself. And with that, the crew essentially says their goodbyes and it’s a wrap on the reunion.

Jean-Luc’s Side of the Story

Except, it’s not. Five days later, Bravo finally manages to track Jean-Luc down for a virtual one-on-one sit-down with Andy . He blames the charter he’s working on in Mexico for why he missed the reunion. He couldn’t take work off on the day of the primary’s daughter’s birthday party, OK? JL defines the current status of his relationship with Dani as “uncertain” and accepts that the bad blood is mostly his fault. He defends wanting a paternity test, but refutes Dani’s claim he didn’t want to be involved. According to JL, if the baby is his, there’s nothing he wants more than to be part of the little girl’s life. He just wants to be sure first.

To be fair, Jean-Luc does seem distressed and upset by a lot of Andy ‘s questions. You can practically see him shut down inside as Andy plays the clip of what Dani had to say during the reunion taping. Nothing the rest of the crew has to say matters to him — he’s way past caring what any of them think. The deckhand even claims he’s considered moving to Australia to be closer to Dani and the baby, but just doesn’t know what the best course of action to take is. During the chat, Andy becomes a therapist, encouraging JL to reach out to Dani and fix the situation he’s put himself in. If he really means everything he’s saying, then prove it.

But ultimately, it seems Jean-Luc ‘s promise to do right by Dani and their baby was nothing but empty words. Dani’s baby was born on May 28, a little girl she named Lilly. However, she and JL have yet to communicate at all since the birth. And with that, Season 2 of Below Deck Sailing Yacht ends on a frankly depressing and dour note.

Dani and Jean-Luc are Below Deck Sailing Yacht stars who got into an onboard romance. Now, Dani has a baby. Their timeline has been dramatic.

Dani Soares and Jean-Luc Cerza Lanaux from Below Deck Sailing Yacht  began a relationship after meeting on season two of the show. The two were new to the franchise, just like their fellow crew members. No one from the first season returned besides the captain of the Parsifal III , Glenn Shephard. A whole new crew made for some interesting drama, including three hookups, a love triangle, and several disputes between the cast. However, they are widely considered one of the best crews to come out of the whole franchise. Captain Glenn has called his crew the " dream team ."

While the crew was working together on the boat, everyone seemed to get along for the most part. Besides a few hiccups between Daisy Kelliher and Natasha De Bourg (and  Daisy and Gary King ), the crew seemed to be very close-knit. However, at the reunion that aired earlier this week, it was clear that several crew members left the vessel on bad terms. Dani and JL probably had the most issues, and fans are curious about the entire timeline of their relationship.

First Meeting And Developing Feelings

The pair met when they joined the yacht on the first day, and Jean-Luc immediately felt something for Dani. Sparks didn't begin to fly between them until they played a game of Truth or Dare. JL told Dani he liked her. In fact, the two had their first kiss during the game. During an episode of  Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen  in April 2021, Dani said that this was the moment that she started looking at him differently. The pair started hooking up from that day on and even left the yacht together. They spent a couple of days together after completing the season, before heading back to their respective homes.

Unexpected Pregnancy

In April of 2021, Dani announced she was expecting her first child in an @iamdanisoares Instagram post. " It’s just you and I little baby ," she captioned the photo of her growing bump. Many fans wondered if JL was the father of her child at the time, seeing as they filmed the show in August 2020. However, Dani was adamant about not revealing the identity of her baby's father. She felt it wasn't relevant to the situation. During an interview with  Us Weekly , the new mom said, " I understand that people are curious about it, and I understand that I’m on a TV show [...] I just don’t think it’s anybody’s business right now ." Dani continued to keep the identity of her baby's father a secret up until the two-part reunion special.

Their Uncertain Future Together

Ahead of the  BDSY  reunion, JL took to his  @jeanluc_cerza_lanaux Instagram. He was ready to break his silence regarding the paternity of Dani's baby. He said he is willing to take a paternity test but wants him and Dani to "take the tests together."  The 25-year-old also wished to set the record straight about rumors that he did not want to be involved if the baby is his.

During the second part of the reunion, Dani finally confirmed that she believes JL is her baby's father. " Let's put it this way. This baby was made during the season while we had cameras 24/7 with us and I only slept with one guy ," she clarified. Later on, JL had an individual conversation with Andy Cohen. During that chat, he discussed how he wants to be  involved if the child is his . He even spoke about the possibility of moving to Australia. However, at the end of the episode, it was revealed that the pair have yet to speak to each other.

As for where their relationship stands today, it seems as though Below Deck Sailing Yacht stars   Dani and JL won't be reconciling anytime soon. Dani was hurt by his desire for a paternity test. She is adamant that JL is the only guy she has been with for the past year. Hopefully, these two can at least work out their relationship for the sake of their newborn daughter, Lily.

The Below Deck franchise has given us a lot of firsts. Across Below Deck , Below Deck Mediterranean , and Below Deck Sailing Yacht , Bravo has aired everything from nudity to near-death experiences to in-depth analysis of maritime law. And now, after a total of 15 seasons have aired, we seem to have the very first Below Deck baby on our hands, a child that deserves a much better welcoming than she has received so far.

During Part 2 of the Below Deck Sailing Yacht Reunion, host Andy Cohen questioned stew Dani Soares about the daughter she welcomed in May and if the father is deckhand Jean-Luc Cerza-Lanaux. It was an easy jump to make as we watched the two slink into the guest cabin for a private night of fun throughout this season which has aired for the majority of the spring, just as she revealed the pregnancy. But it was filmed at the end of last summer, so…anyone with basic math skills knew it added up.

And before we heard from Dani or JL, sure, there was the chance that maybe she met a different tall and hunky and more mature man and also had some fun. However, it not only seemed unlikely, it turns out, it never happened. When finally given the floor to talk, Dani said, “Well, let’s put it this way: this baby was made during the season while we had cameras 24/7 with us and I only slept with one guy.” And what has that guy’s reaction been since learning he’s the father? “He hasn’t supported me at all in any way,” Dani revealed. “He thinks it’s not his child and he doesn’t want to have anything to do with it,” she said of JL’s reaction.

She went on to detail how she found out she was pregnant as soon as she got back to Australia after the charter season in Croatia and that initially JL was “Obviously a bit shocked and everything but he seemed supportive.” But then it changed, and by December of last year he was “not interested anymore.” That became apparent on New Year’s Day when she got a message from him that said, “Don’t go around telling people I’m the dad of this child,” and saying he wanted a DNA test to prove it. Dani agreed as long as he organized and paid for it, which has yet to happen, and said he has asked about the baby two-three times total this year. She went on to say, “She’s gonna be amazing,” about her daughter, and that she would “Do my best every day to give her everything she needs.”

Andy was sure to tell her, “This girl is going to come into a world where she is very loved and you’re gonna be an incredible mom.” Dani’s pals also had her back, with Alli Dore saying, “She’s working so hard…she’s been amazing,” and of JL, “It’s incredibly disgusting and frustrating that he won’t even acknowledge the situation. My heart breaks for Dani but she’s so strong and I know she can do this without him and she will be better off.” Gary King was also sure to add that he “does not have a spine,” which, if it weren’t so true, would warrant some kind of joke about his height here, but it’s just too disappointing to even have fun with.

For her part, Dani was also sure to say she wished he was at the reunion so everyone could hear his side, though he later got his own sit-down with Andy. “Five days after the reunion was recorded, Jean-Luc found time in his work schedule to speak with Andy,” the screen read, as it was previously announced he was on coward, sorry, on charter . And let’s not forget, angel on Earth Colin found a way to drive 90 minutes to Wifi, so it feels like JL (also not the most motivated cast member we’ve ever seen on the show) could’ve figured out a way to face his fellow castmates.

“It was really unfortunate, I did want to be there but I had a charter and it was our primary’s daughter’s birthday so basically one of the biggest days of the whole charter that I could not take time off for,” is the excuse he gave. It seemed as though Andy was lobbing a few softball questions to start off the interview, but when asked what lessons he learned, JL replied, “Do not get intimate with any of the crew.” Ok bro, game on! He admitted, “The status of my relationship with Dani is kind of a little uncertain,” and that the two talk “a little bit back and forth but not as much as we probably should.” He added that “there’s some things that are to be questioned,” but that “we’re trying to be adults about this whole entire process and figure it out.”

Except he seems to have way more to figure out than she does. He said after he asked for the paternity test that it “turned into a lot of backlash and her not wanting to hear from me,” yet he thought, due to his lack of experience with women, that it was a “very understandable question to ask in any situation.” To confirm: it is not. He went on to say that he told Dani, “If this is my child, I want to be a part of that child’s life every single day as much as I can for the rest of her life.”

It’s the same sentiment he expressed this past weekend in an Instagram caption , and one that he repeated over and over again during his time with Andy, though that didn’t make it truer. In fact, it often felt as though someone had told him what to say, but he didn’t quite know what it meant, or that he meant it . Saying you want to be involved “100%” is very noble. But he had a relationship with Dani, they cared about each other, and so far, he’s been involved 0%.

In fact, the extent of his involvement is that he claims he will happily pay for the DNA test and that it’s gotten as far as him reaching out to her doctor’s office, even saying he wanted to be present for the birth. But none of those things have materialized, as Lilly was born on May 26th, and as the screen savagely stated, “Jean-Luc and Dani have yet to speak to each other.” Bro. Is the only good thing to come out of this mess going to be this sick burn ? Because, somehow, even his headphones were irritating.

Every season, viewers tune in to this show to see how crazy the guests are, how beautiful the landscapes are, and mostly, who hooks up on the boat. And almost every season, multiple crew members come through for us. However, there has never been a Below Deck baby before, and beautiful Lilly seems to be the first. We’ve always known that what happens on (or below) deck never stays on deck, but this drama has really jumped. Despite JL’s mom being messy online, Dani’s fellow crew members have truly had her back and rallied around her in comment sections as well as privately showing their support.

And for her part, Dani has been a class act. She didn’t post a photo of her pregnant belly until April when it became too hard to hide it, and has vowed to not “throw dirt” on JL’s name to the child. She’s remained admirably optimistic and strong publicly and seemed fully ready to embrace motherhood, despite not deserving to face it in this way.

But Lilly could’ve had a better celebration. A Below Deck Baby special on Bravo (or hell, even on Peacock), like a baby shower we would actually want to see! The crew members would show up with smiles and nautical-themed presents and Daisy could get wine-drunk again — it would’ve been awesome! This baby should be celebrated Andy-style, not Maury-style. It’s a wonderful, beautiful, special occasion. She’s being born to a loving mom who has a fantastic group of coworkers-turned-pals and now an international audience of people that also wish the best for her. I hope she never has to sit through that reunion or hear its pathetic excuses, and simply know that as far as her mom is concerned, she will always be the primary.

What happened to Jean-Luc from Below Deck Sailing Yacht?

Jean-Luc Cerza Lanaux from Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 2 has earned a place in the Below Deck franchise history but has been out of the spotlight since his stint.

Season 2 changed the entire dynamic of the sailing spin-off thanks to the new likable crew, crazy shenanigans, and drama galore.

When the cameras stopped rolling, Dani revealed she was pregnant, and in May 2021, their daughter Lilly was born.

However, Dani has been raising Lilly on her own as Jean-Luc questioned if he was the little girl’s father. The paternity drama was brought up at the Season 2 reunion show, which Jean-Luc did not attend.

In 2022, Jean-Luc revealed via social media that he was Lilly’s father.

As Season 4 of Below Deck Sailing Yacht nears, it’s time to see what Jean-Luc has been up to since his time aboard Parsifal III.

It’s been years since Jean-Luc has been on reality television. Jean-Luc has lived his life out of the spotlight, largely due to all the backlash from the Dani situation and lack of involvement with Lilly.

Captain Glenn Shepard said last year he believes that Jean-Luc does have some in Lilly’s life. Dani, though, has more than once made it clear she’s a single mom raising Lilly alone.

Jean-Luc hasn’t spoken out on his relationship with his daughter since his initial confirmation.

The yachtie isn’t big on sharing on social media, but when he does, it almost always involves his travels. Yes, Jean-Luc appears to still be in the yachting world.

Although that may be changing now that Jean Luc has found his special someone.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht alum Jean-Luc gushes over a mystery woman

Taking to Instagram last week, Jean-Luc shared a photo of him with a woman who appeared to be the special lady in his life.

“My parents always talked about that one person walking into your life and changing it for the better. I just never knew who the person was until now. ??,” he wrote on the post.

Jean-Luc didn’t give any details about the mystery lady woman in his life, but it does appear he’s happy. The comments section of the IG post was turned off, likely so Jean-Luc didn’t endure more backlash over posting about his relationship while his participation as a father in Lilly’s life is in question.

Season 4 of Below Deck Sailing Yacht will be here soon. While Jean-Luc Cerza Lanaux isn’t back like his former boss Gary King, there are plenty of newbies that could bring just as much drama as Jean-Luc did.

'Below Deck Sailing Yacht' Stars Dani and JL Finally Reveal if JL Is Her Baby Daddy (SPOILERS)

Who knew that a yacht crew would make for must-watch television? Apparently, Bravo was right on the money with Below Deck Sailing Yacht . The drama-filled historic second season has come to an end, and as we tune into the reunion, there’s one major question on all our minds — where in the world is Jean-Luc "JL" Cerza Lanaux ?

JL is rumored to be Dani Soares’ baby daddy after their passionate summer yacht fling, and for some reason, he’s nowhere to be seen in the first part of the Below Deck Sailing Yacht reunion. Could that be related to the baby daddy rumors? Well, the rest of the cast certainly had something to say about JL and the lack of his presence at the reunion and in Dani’s life.

JL was not at the ‘Below Deck Sailing Yacht’ reunion, but he filmed a separate interview with Andy Cohen.

JL says that he wishes he could have been at the reunion, but do we really buy that? To be fair, he says he’s working on a yacht in Central America, which is why he couldn’t be at the Below Deck Sailing Yacht reunion. However, the lack of his physical presence at the reunion doesn’t mean he’s not there. In fact, JL is probably the most talked-about cast member in the first part of the reunion.

He does make an appearance in the second part of the Below Deck Sailing Yacht reunion in a separate interview with Andy Cohen . According to him and Dani, we would find out everything we need to know about their relationship and JL’s involvement with Dani’s new baby girl, Lilly.

“I think the reunion is going to answer all the questions and more,” Dani told Entertainment Tonight regarding questions about what happened in their relationship and if JL is Dani’s baby daddy .

Dani also admitted that she was disappointed JL wasn’t at the reunion with the rest of the cast. “It's much better when we're all together and we can have a discussion instead of just being separate, and we might not get a chance to answer and things like that.”

JL is addressing the rumors that he is Dani’s baby daddy in Part Two of the ‘Below Deck Sailing Yacht’ reunion.

Dani all but completely confirmed that Jean-Luc was the father of her baby. When Andy asked Dani, "Is JL the father of your baby?" Dani replied, "Well, let's put it this way: This baby was made during this season while we had cameras 24 / 7 with us, and I only slept with one guy." That one guy was JL.

For his part, Jean-Luc addressed Dani's claims that he is not interested in being a part of his child's life and that he hasn't been supportive throughout her pregnancy. She also stated that he wanted a paternity test done, which she asked him to pay for, but he never got it done. Jean-Luc said that he still wants to have the test done, but that after he asked for it, she didn't take it well.

"I asked for a paternity test, and essentially, that turned into a lot of backlash and her not wanting to hear from me and essentially not having to do anything with me. But, for me, as a 24-year-old at the time with not much experience at all in a relationship and a woman telling me that she's pregnant, I feel like that that's a very understandable question to ask in any situation," JL said in the interview with Andy.

"And she took it very poorly, and I understand why she took it poorly, because, you know, in her mind, I might be the only person that she's ever been with. And if that's the case, I told her, I really do apologize. But for my peace of mind, I just wanted to know. And I told her that if this is my child, I want to be a part of that child's life every single day as much as I can for the rest of her little life or for his life," he said.

But despite saying that he still wants to have the paternity test done, the reunion special, which was filmed in mid-May, shortly before Lilly's birth, ended with an update saying, "Jean-Luc and Dani have yet to speak with each other."

‘Below Deck Sailing Yacht’ Season 2 Reunion Revelations: Dani’s Pregnancy, Gary’s Love Triangle and More

Just the beginning! The Below Deck Sailing Yacht cast virtually came together to break down everything that happened during the show’s second season — and nothing was off-limits.

During part one of the reunion on Monday, June 21, Glenn Shephard , Colin Macrae , Gary King , Natasha De Bourg , Daisy Kelliher , Dani Soares , Alli Dore and Sydney Zaruba returned to reflect on their highs and lows.

Deckhand Jean-Luc Cerza Lanaux , who had some big questions to answer about his relationship with Dani since the season wrapped , was noticeably absent. However, host Andy Cohen confirmed that Jean-Luc did a separate interview for the reunion where he addressed the speculation that he’s the father of Dani’s baby .

“If that is my child, I want everything and anything to do with that child’s life,” Jean-Luc said in a preview for part two of the reunion, set to air on June 22.

Prior to the reunion, Jean-Luc took to social media to finally respond to fan’s theories about his relationship with Dani, who welcomed her first child in May.

“There’s a lot of gossip about my social media silence so I think it’s time to clear the air. While others are off chasing their 15 minutes of fame, I am working on a yacht in Central America,” he wrote via Instagram on Friday, June 18. “[I’m] heartbroken to have to hear about the baby’s birth on social media and read headlines, like, ‘Dani Soares Says Her Baby’s Father Doesn’t Want Anything to Do With It.’ All I can say is if it’s mine, I want to be involved 100 [percent].”

Jean-Luc continued: “As someone who grew up with parents who weren’t together, I wouldn’t wish that on any child. Not looking for a pity party. Just want everyone to know how strongly I feel about this, especially the haters who are so sure I am neglecting my responsibility. No one wants to know more than me if this is my baby girl!”

Many members of the Below Deck universe quickly responded to the post and called out Jean-Luc for not doing the right thing, including costar Sydney, who asked, “What is wrong with you?!”

“Don’t play the innocent victim here JL. Man the fuk [sic] up,” Colin added in the comments.

Season 2 chef Natasha added: “I’m sorry JL but sounds like a pity party to me. Why didn’t you reach out 9 months ago ??? No woman deserves to be treated the way you treated Danny [sic]”

The Crew's Thoughts on Jean-Luc's Work Ethic

The Below Deck stars didn't hold back when they spoke about the deckhand’s absent approach to his job, with chief stew Daisy referring to Jean-Luc as "absolutely moronic" while explaining why she refused to let Dani take the blame for Jean-Luc not completing his duties during their night shifts.

Colin also opened up about his relationship with Jean-Luc throughout the season, some of which fans didn't get to see. 

"I didn't specifically get on with J.L. from the start, we didn't click. But I felt like he kind of didn't want to take instructions from Gary or myself sometimes," the chief engineer said. "That was just his attitude towards work." 

Captain Glenn, who applauded Sydney for her hard work in comparison, added: "He just didn't get the urgency of what is going on."

Gary's Treatment of the Women

In response to a fan question about him "being a twat to basically all the women on the boat," Gary admitted that he did feel badly about his behavior . Shortly after, all the women except Natasha raised their hand when they were asked if they felt like the bosun didn't always treat them well.

Daisy specifically called out Gary earlier in the reunion episode for the way he spoke about her when she wasn't around. "You clearly also hated me and thought that I was a giant bitch," she revealed.

Gary, for his part, clarified: "I may have said you were acting bitchy, I never said you're a bitch.”

Dani and Her Castmates Address Her Baby's Paternity

After Dani shared that Jean-Luc did not want to be involved in her pregnancy, her costars had plenty to say about the deckhand's reaction.

"She's working so hard. She's doing 12-hour days. She's trying to get herself prepared as best as she can. And it is incredibly disgusting and frustrating that [Jean-Luc] won't even acknowledge the situation," Alli responded. "My heart breaks for Dani but she is so strong. I know that she can do this without him and will be better off."

Meanwhile, Gary claimed that Jean-Luc "does not have a spine."

"For the little respect that I had for him, that's gone out the window," he added.

Gary Had a Girlfriend

Alli dropped the bombshell that Gary had a girlfriend when he joined the boat during part two of the Below Deck reunion.

"We were in a very complicated relationship. I hadn't seen her for eight months prior to me coming on the show. Not seeing someone for eight months and growing apart in those months ... do we put a label on that? No," Gary explained after the big reveal.

For Alli, this was a major reason why she felt like it wasn't fair for Sydney to be so mad about their situation with Gary.  

"I did everything I could to be respectful in a situation but at the end of the day, when you sleep with someone when they are in a relationship, I feel like that voids you being able to treat me the way you treated me," Alli told Sydney.

Another Below Deck Baby

The former stew, who confirmed the news on social media before part one of the reunion aired , revealed that she was expecting a baby.

"Dani and I are pregnant at the same time. It's so cool!" Alli gushed about her exciting news.

Gary admitted that he didn't know his ex was pregnant, but said that he was happy for her.

"She told me when I spoke to her that her boyfriend treats her well and treats her like a princess, and at the end of the day as long as Alli is happy then I am happy," he added.

The Crossing Timeline

After Cohen asked about the crossing, Alli and Gary explained that they were an official couple during that period of time, but that it was never meant to last.

"It was inevitable that she was always leaving to Australia, so I think in the back of our minds we knew that we could never seriously work because of that," Gary clarified. "Regardless of the great chemistry and the ability to make each other laugh endlessly, and also finish each other's sentences."

Jean-Luc is the Father of Dani's Baby

"Let's put it this way. This baby was made during the season while we had cameras 24/7 with us and I only slept with one guy," Dani finally confirmed. "He hasn't supported me at all in any way. He thinks it is not his child and he doesn't want to have anything to do with it."

Dani opened up about the negativity that she saw online from people like Jean-Luc's mother and how she struggled with that.

"Obviously, I say during the whole season that I want to be a mom and have a family, but I wanted a family. That was my plan. That was my vision. I would not choose to move to a new country where I don't know anybody and choose to have a child with a 24-year-old boy that I barely knew," she emotionally revealed. "I did not plan that. I am just going with this now and I am sure my little baby girl is going to be amazing."

‘Below Deck’ Sails Into a New Era

With a different captain at the helm and new production elements, the reality show about charter yachts is switching up its style.

Starting a new season of “ Below Deck ” can be similar to returning to summer camp as a kid — you know it’s going to be fun and that you’ll be in the same environment, but some of the people will be different and you’re not quite sure what the vibes will be.

This time around, in particular, feels that way because for the first time in the show’s 11-season run, Captain Lee Rosbach is no longer at the helm. It’s a pivotal moment for a franchise that has become one of the most popular entities in the sprawling universe of reality TV since premiering on Bravo in 2013 . The show’s appeal was built on endless romances between various crew members (“boatmances,” as they came to be known), horrible charter guests and some sort of passive-aggressive fight about how many shackles of the anchor chain should be in the water. And there was always Rosbach presiding over the drama as he trudged around the boat, reeling off one liners like “I’m madder than a pissed-on chicken” and “we screwed the pooch so many times we should have a litter of puppies running around.”

At the center of the show now is Kerry Titheradge (the stern yet goofy captain of “Below Deck Adventure” fame), who is managing the Motor Yacht Saint David with the cheeky chief stew Fraser Olender by his side.

With that change in captain, the energy on the boat — both onscreen and off — is different, according to Olender.

“I feel like Kerry this season, as opposed to Lee, has a no B.S. attitude, which I love with him,” Olender said in an interview. “With Kerry, he taught me a lot and sort of forced to me confront issues directly with my team, work them out, as opposed to making executive decisions too soon.”

This shift in management style changes the central conflict — whereas the drama once focused on the captain swiftly kicking out any unpleasant crew member (as we might have seen with Rosbach), the drama now focuses on the whole crew trying to get along (since Titheradge gives people those second chances).

Additionally, Olender noted that the captain’s relationship with the crew can also affect the drama on board.

“Captains absolutely do get involved, whether they know it or not,” Olender said, adding that for the crew, everything is about “trying to impress your captain.”

This phenomenon plays out early in the new season when the lead deckhand, Ben Willoughby, called out a fellow crew member over the radios about not wearing a life vest — something he easily could have done in private. The drama that followed became an interpersonal conflict between the two of them, both with the ultimate goal of impressing Titheradge. (Of course, the two deckhands had kissed on the previous crew night out, which is more in line with the “Below Deck” drama viewers are used to.)

For “Below Deck” showrunners, the changeovers in the cast allowed them to rethink what the show would look like.

From the season premiere, it was immediately apparent that Rosbach’s absence wasn’t the only change this season: The filming is sleeker, the daily, multicourse meals prepared by the chef are given their own glamour shots and the cameras sometimes cut to the perspectives of yachties running around on deck and through the galley.

“Our showrunner, Lauren Simms, is an avid consumer of all different kinds of media,” Noah Samton, a senior vice president of unscripted current production for NBCUniversal, said in an interview. “She pitches us different ideas on how to stylistically evoke different feelings and change the mood a little bit of ‘Below Deck’ without removing what really works.”

Moving through the rest of the season, and potentially through seasons to come, Olender is aiming to bring a cutthroat management style while also bringing affection for his stews, all with his signature British humor.

On Bravo’s side, there are changes in the works for the other “Below Deck” spinoffs — including “Sailing Yacht,” “Mediterranean” and “Down Under” — which collectively, have 26 seasons. Specifically, Samton said that “Down Under” is currently filming and that even though fans should be ready to see new things, the show will stay true to its original concept.

“These are real yachties doing a real job so you have to stay within those confines because the audience isn’t going to want anything that is too produced or fake,” Samton said. “So we have to find ways to reinvent while staying true to the original concept of the show.”

And as Olender said: “I’m sure that every year if I were to work with this franchise again, that I’ll be thrown a collection of total chaotic and disastrous stews — that’s what makes it watchable.”

Below Deck Season 11 Episode 7: Release Date & Preview

T he eleventh season of “Below Deck,” which explores the day-to-day activities of the crew members who reside and work on these lavish mega yachts, is scheduled to debut in February.

Captain Lee Rosbach departed the program after ten seasons. The boat is now under the direction of Captain Kerry Titheradge, who fans may remember from “Below Deck Adventure.”

This season, the crew of the luxurious yacht M/Y St. David is working on the Caribbean island nation of Grenada. The Bravo reality series, which debuted in 2013, gave rise to other spinoffs, including “Below Deck Mediterranean,” “Below Deck Sailing Yacht,” and “Below Deck Adventure.”

The seventh episode of “Below Deck” of Season 11 is called “Cat’s Out of the Bag.” The forthcoming episode will center on Cat’s stay on the yacht, examining whether or not she will be able to make friends with the crew or whether she will still struggle to fit in.

In addition, fans are curious to find out if Xandi Olivier will develop a love relationship with any of the cast members—especially after she divulged information regarding her previous marriage in the most recent episode. It remains to be seen if anyone on the yacht will be interested in this information.

A new main charter guest is also introduced in Episode 7, which heightens the suspense and excitement surrounding the events that are taking place.

Episode 6 of ‘Below Deck’ Season 11 features a confrontation between Jared and Kyle. Captain Kerry Titheradge is made aware of the disagreement and conveys his displeasure with both parties. Captain Titheradge warns Jared and Kyle of the circumstances.

Cat, meanwhile, is still having trouble “finding her place on the yacht.” According to the synopsis, Eileen is the source of stress on the entire yacht, and her night in the hot tub will have long-lasting consequences.

Release Date & Where to Watch

Bravo TV’s official website or app will be the only place to watch Below Deck, season 11 episode 7 on Monday, March 18, 2024, at 9 PM EST.
