If you are lucky, you may see whales and dolphins during this fun adventure. The Catamaran will set anchor in an amazing lagoon of Ilot Gabriel, you will get to disembark on Flat island where you can swim and snorkel before lunch is served onboard. Vegetarians are catered for too: notification should be given upon booking. You can then go and discover the white sandy beaches of Ilot Gabriel, enjoy a sun bath and simply relax and indulge this perfect setting before embarking on board to sail back to Grand Baie. During the sail back the catamaran will stop at Gunners Coin for a last snorel. Expected arrival time back to Grand Baie is around 4 pm. We have done many boat trips before and this was the best crew by far. They were so attentive and good at what they did. Great BBQ lunch as well so thank you to them. The trip in general was nice but the waterfall was pointless stopping off for. It is literally just a traffic jam of little boats all jumping the queue and we didnt even get to the front before we turned around. We were in the river for maybe 20mins and there must have been 50 plus small boats all trying to fight over the waterfall (see the pic I took)! Totally pointless part of the trip in my view. But other than the waterfall it was a really nice trip. We did have 18 people on the boat and the sign said it could take 30plus. If it had been busier it definitely would have dropped the quality but with the number we had it was great. And once again, the crew on the Green Dolphin were stars! One other negative is the amount of time it takes to loads the catamarans and unload at the end as we must have wasted nearly an hour before setting sail waiting for people to be ferried over and then it took well over 30mins before our small boat came to let us off the catamaran. Unfortunately the waterfall was cancelled due to rain and the possibility of debris in the water, it hadn’t rained that much but we accepted safety first. We went snorkelling and the reef and coral was very underwhelming, granted that we live and experience the Great Barrier reef in our own country, but I would have though a more pristine part of the reef could of been found. We then went to the private island, and so were another thousand people. It was dirty and rubbish everywhere. We saw whales, stopped at a great snorkeling spot, and got to visit Crystal Rock. Ile aux Benitiers wasn’t great— very crowded, and the water very murky and not good for swimming, but that’s not the company’s fault!! We were only there for about 45 minutes anyway, so it was only a fraction of the trip. If you book on your own online, rather than through a hotel/agent, make sure to call/Whatsapp in advance to make sure you know where exactly the embarkation point is (for us it was L’estuaire). we went to the embarkation point listed on their website, but the website wasn’t up-to-date. A quick WhatsApp message later and they got us to the right location. We were super late (due to traffic, as well as going to the wrong location), and I thought for sure they’d just leave without us, but they waited for us for over 20 minutes until we got to the right place! We didn't think that was okay. On the islands (Gabriel and Flat Island) remained accordingly approx. 30-45 minutes, since we had to wait about 20 minutes for the boat on both islands, which picked us up. We didn't like the barbeque, especially the salad. We didn’t drive to the 3rd island anymore. Although we were asked if this was okay (according to the crew, the swell was too strong), the question arises whether we had a choice. In the meantime, we are rather assuming that we will be back on time at 16:00. With stop at the 3rd Island we would have been back later. The crew was ok, sometimes a little unfriendly. For example, we had put on our water shoes on the toilet for hygienic reasons and were relatively unfriendlyly informed that there are no shoes to wear on the boat. Basically, the tour to the islands is worthwhile and the ride on the catamaran was also an adventure. However, we would no longer choose the provider based on the experience. If you are not a morning person please note that the start time is NOT the pick up time and if your hotel is not located near the beach then you may have to wake up earlier. For us we has to wake up at 5am for a 6am pickup time from the east. We arrived at the location on time and our driver took us to some toilets before we got there which was super considerate! However when we got there, we spent a lot of time just stood about and we weren't really sure what we were supposed to do/who we were going with. There were a lot of other tourists as well who I assume were waiting for similar things but again no one looked like they knew where to go. Eventually our guides came and walked us to the boat we were going to be using for the trip. We had Vic and Zen (sorry if this is misspelled) who were super informative and really cared about our experience. I have to say their energy and commitment really made this trip worth it and I'm very glad we had them! First they explained that we would need to look for the dolphins to swim and we ended up finding some where a lot of the other boats were. These are wild dolphins and the reason why the excursion is so early is because that is the only time they will be close to the shore. It was a bit difficult to swim with the dolphins because they would often submerge themselves in the sea to get away from all the boats, so you'd have to time it really well to swim with them. I was somewhat lucky and got to see them swim under me but they weren't very close. You can request a life jacket if you're not a strong swimmer. My mum didn't even get a chance to swim 'with' them because as she got in the water they'd be gone. After a few attempts our guides asked us if we wanted to move on (again really lovely people) and our group agreed that it would be best to start the next activity. Something to be mindful of when you're in the water is where your boat is! I lost my bearings and was swimming in the opposite direction but luckily my mum called out to me. I don't think I wouldve been left stranded in the water as there are so many boats around and someone would've helped but still a bit of a scary situation. Our next activity was snorkelling in a lagoon area with lots of fish! They put some fish food in the water so you end up being surrounded by them which is quite cool! And the water is not to deep and not too shallow so you can really explore. After, we when you Crystal Rock which is a gorgeous coral which grows outside the water! I recommend wearing some goggles/snorkelling here because the water is shallow enough that you can stand up in it, however there are a lot of sea urchins and sea cucumbers so it's easier to avoid them if you can see them. Our last stop was the island which we spent a lot of time on. There are no toilets on the island so if you need to do your business, you either do it in the water or in the woody areas. Also because the boats they use are speed boats, again no toilets on there, so your only option is really when you are in the water. Where we were sat there were loads of flies which is quite off putting when you're eating but hey, that's nature. I'm not sure if it was just where we were sat or if other groups experienced it too but just something to note. There isn't a lot to do on the island except swim or buy items from some of the stalls they have. Quite good prices and lots of variety too! I guess my issue was the amount of time we spent on the island, because we had to wait almost an hour before we ate, and then after we ate we had an additional 2 hours. So a total of around 3 to 4 hours on there which isn't super entertaining when there's not much to do except sunbathe, shop or swim. For food we had a BBQ lunch which was delicious, accompanied by unlimited drinks. Again our guides were amazing, serving us our drinks and telling us about things you can do on the island. They always made sure we were feeling good and were having fun! I booked this trip for just me and my mum and we had it nearer the end of our holiday. That being said we had experienced some excursions in Mauritius before this so I think our opinion would be different if this had been the first excursion on our holiday. You need 8 hours as the whole population above 16 seem to have 2 or 4 wheels and all go out at once. Grit your teeth it’s worth the ride. everything on the list is done. This excursion was exactly what we'd hoped for and with only a short time on the island, perfect for what we needed. Our driver (Vimal) was courteous, professional and passionately informative about not only the agenda but also gave us a great insight in to what it's like to live and work in Mauritius. He also scheduled the itinerary to avoid tourist and traffic hotshots. Modern private car with A/C was not what we expected but so much better than a bus and we could stop whenever we wanted for comfort or photos. Thanks so much for adding to our story. P.s. So it started well then parasailing was cancelled due to Cyclone alerts at that time .. we were told me and my wife you ll get a 40 usd refund each and you should contact the company , which we did and they confirmed it s gonna happen ! and then we were left behind me and my wife on the lunch island despite being on time for the final itenerary which was supposed to be GRSE waterfall , someone came back to took us with another couple that was also left behind and we found ourselves going back to the starting point without anyone explaining to us .. so i called the company and they told us it s also cancelled due to weather conditions and we ll get refunded this part as well .. So it s been almost a month without any refund and i also completely forgot about it .. and when i just remembered this morning i made the partial refund request i got an email of a 12 usd refund accepted !!! The lunch was delicious and truly food and drinks were unlimited. We saw the dolphins, but it was challenging because there were just a few of them and many boats. We would be happy to give a five star review, except for the fact that the taxi that was supposed to be included never picked us up after the trip. Together with two more couples we waited for 20 minutes and then asked another taxi to take us home; the phone number given as company contact didn't work and when we messaged them, we never received a reply.
