NEW MEMBER ONBOARDING
KING HARBOR YACHT CLUB
WELCOME TO YOUR NEW HOME PORT
MIKE HYLER General Manager
KHYC is a unique membership that offers unique experiences — after all, we’re a yacht club that doesn’t require members to own a yacht to feel like you truly belong. Our decades of history and tradition have helped define a place where fellow members are inclusive and friendly, a place where you can jump into friendly competition, incredibly active recreational pursuits, or simply enjoy the company of friends and family at our relaxing waterfront getaway. This is a place to enjoy the breathtaking, uplifting and often inspiring views of Santa Monica Bay, feel the salt spray from your seat on our decks and balconies, and toast another perfect sunset at the end of the day. There’s plenty of time for down time...now is the time to chart a course for your new club lifestyle, pick some favorite or brand-new activities, and enjoy life at KHYC. To help, each week our New Member Onboarding Program will spotlight the different activities, amenities, programs and personnel that make King Harbor Yacht Club your waterfront retreat for on-the-water moments and member-to-member connections. Welcome aboard – now let the adventures begin!
KHYC FUN FACTS + UNIQUE HISTORY
KHYC was created in 1960 with the merger of the Win’ard Yacht Club and Redondo Harbor Yacht Club.
Member and architect Bob Viault designed the KHYC Clubhouse.
S/C Fred Hope designed the upper deck fireplace in the shape of a ship’s lantern, and this welcoming area is a beacon for member relaxation.
We are one of only 2 yacht clubs in Southern California with views of the open ocean.
KHYC members enjoy ‘right of first refusal’ for slips in King Harbor Marina — the fastest way to get a slip in KHM.
Both Win’ard Yacht Club and Redondo Harbor Yacht Club members sailed off the beach where the boatyard and the King Harbor Marina apartments are now.
S/C Nick Galloway painted the artwork on the Upper Deck west wall of the Santa Catalina Island cove that members enjoyed as our club outpost for many years.
The Cal 20 Fleet hosts an annual White Elephant Christmas party each year — and an actual stuffed white elephant still shows up every year!
We regularly get to enjoy the “Green Flash” as the sun sets in the west.
KHYC has 155’ of guest dock space and welcomes cruisers from reciprocal yacht clubs sailing up and down the coast from Canada to Mexico and points beyond.
