Undecided between a Rolex Yacht-Master or Submariner? Here is our guide:

Yacht-Master vs Submariner

Both the Yacht-Master and the Submariner are inextricably linked to Rolex’s rich heritage in developing expert waterproofing technology. Over the last few years Rolex has focussed significantly on its Yacht-Master collection. Since 2015 they have created the Everose version and equipped models with the new Oysterflex bracelet. Likewise, the Submariner has received several modifications since it first launched in 1953, namely its improvement in water resistance. Let’s take a look at how the Yacht-Master and the Submariner fair up to one another in this comparison article which looks into the materials, functions, and performance of each watch.

Presenting the Yacht-Master:

The Yacht-Master is a luxury sports watch that launched in 1992 in an 18k yellow gold case. Since then, ladies’ models have accompanied these rugged timekeeping tools as well as several innovative features like the mid-size man’s model and the Rolesium case, crafted from a mix of Rolex’s 904-L grade stainless steel and 905 platinum. The blend of metals further enhances the model’s luxurious aesthetic, enabling the elements on the dial and bezel to stand out with exquisite luster and luminosity.

Presenting the Submariner:

The Submariner was introduced in 1953. The diver’s watch was an extension of the brand’s success in creating the world’s first waterproof and dustproof watch – the Oyster. It used the same structure as the Oyster case and was equipped with 100-meter water resistance, setting the benchmark for all diver’s watches to follow. Over the last 2 decades, the Submariner has tripled in price and remains a highly desirable model to own from the brand’s prestigious catalog.

Case and Bracelet:

The Submariner watch is a 40mm model, enabling it to sit comfortably on the arm without overpowering the wrist. It’s a great timepiece for pairing with sporty or casual attire. The case is crafted from stainless steel, featuring a monobloc middle case, a screw-down case back and a screw-down crown. The crown is integrated with the Triplock triple waterproofness system developed by Rolex. It features three sealed zones to offer the best water damage protection over the watch’s movement. The top of the watch is completed with anti-reflective sapphire crystal glass and the watch’s unidirectional rotating bezel is crafted from Cerachrom ceramic, which prevents the surface of the colored bezel from scratching and fading. The unidirectional rotating bezel has 60-minute graduations coated in platinum. Available in green, blue and black, these bezels match their respective dial colors. The case of the Submariner is also available in 18k white gold, 18k yellow gold, steel or a bi-color steel & 18k yellow gold option. The Rolex Yacht-Master is available in a 37mm, 40mm, and a 42m case size. The 37mm version features a steel case with Everose bezel and bracelet links, the 40mm variations are available in a Rolesium (steel and platinum case) and an 18k Everose case with black bezel. The 42mm version is crafted from white gold with a black bezel. There are black dials and dark rhodium dials to choose from within this collection – each one equipped with a cyclops date at 3 o’clock. The 37mm and 40mm Everose watches have a matching rose gold second hand, and like the Submariner, the dial is protected by a sapphire glass lens. The Yacht-Master’s bezel is bidirectional with 60-minute graduations that are raised and polished to stand out clearly. The Yacht-Master is 100-meter water-resistant compared to the Submariner’s 300-meter water-resistant case.

The Submarine is powered by the calibers 3135 and 3130. Both offer a 48-hour power reserve and perform at a rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour. The Caliber 3135 has received modifications since it was first developed. It is now COSC-certified and features a Paramagnetic Parachrom hairspring for enhanced mechanical efficiency.

Some Rolex Yacht-Masters are powered by the in-house Caliber 3235, which provides a longer 70-hour power reserve compared to the Submariner. It beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour. Others are powered by the Caliber 2236 with a Syloxi hairspring in silicon and high-performance Paraflex shock absorbers. It provides a 55-hour power reserve.

Both the Submariner and Yacht-Master watches feature Superlative Chronometer tested movements, meaning that they have undergone a set of stringent tests to prove their robustness, reliability, and strength under extreme conditions.

Bracelet and Clasp:

The Submariner and Yacht-Master differ in terms of their bracelets. The Yacht-Master 40mm Everose and 42mm white gold options are completed on an Oysterflex bracelet with features flexible metal blades protected underneath a high-performance elastomer. To secure around the wrist, the band features an Oysterlock safety clasp and Glidelock extension facility, enabling you to attach the bracelet over the top of heavy outdoor gear. The other Yacht-Master watches come on an Oyster bracelet with Glidelock system. The Submariner is completed on the Oyster bracelet (in options of steel, 18k yellow gold, 18k white gold or bi-color options), with a folding Oysterlock safety clasp and Glidelock extension clasp for expanding in small increments.

rolex yacht master submariner

The Rolex Yacht-Master watch is more expensive than the Submariner, retailing at around $12,000 as opposed to the Submariner’s $8000 price tag. On the preowned market, however, both watches sell for a similar price point since the Submariner holds its value better compared to the Yacht-Master.

Still Undecided:

The Yacht-Master, despite being available in luxurious Everose and platinum versions, has a sportier aesthetic compared to the rugged look of the Submariner, especially since some models are completed on the Oysterflex bracelet as opposed to a 3-piece Oyster bracelet. It also features a clear dial surrounded by a bidirectional rotating bezel with highly legible markers. The Submariner, on the other hand, is more suitable for diving since it features a unidirectional rotating bezel that will enable you to keep track of remaining dive time and better water resistance. It offers a short power reserve, however, and goes without the addition of the sportier Oysterflex bracelet.

Rolex Yacht-Master vs. Submariner: Which High-End Watch is Right for You?

Today, we’re going head-to-head with two of the most popular watches that Rolex has to offer: it’s the Rolex Yacht-Master vs. Submariner. The Yacht-Master is one of the most polarizing models for the Rolex community, while the Submariner is an iconic timepiece and a historical dive watch. If you have the dilemma of choosing between these two Rolexes, then let me say that it’s a good problem to have. In reality, you can’t go wrong by choosing one over the other.

However, I know that both watches are hefty investments and you want yours to count. One is a regatta countdown flyback chronograph, and the other is the quintessential dive watch. Personally, I prefer the Rolex Submariner for its classic reliability, design, and durability. But that’s just me. Let’s take a closer look at what each model can offer.

Construction and Wearability

Timekeeping, related posts, rolex yacht-master review.

Rolex Yacht-Master vs. Submariner

The first Rolex Yacht-Master was released as a part of the company’s Professional series with the reference 16628. The watch was released in 1992 and is touted as the sleeker upgrade to the iconic dive watch, the Submariner. However, according to the rumor mill, many Submariner devotees see that the design overhaul is too much and is ready to pounce into the Yacht-Master. Eventually, Rolex decided that the Yacht-Master will be released as an entirely new model instead.

For this review, we’ll be focusing on the Rolex Yacht-Master 40 Reference 116622 but many of the features, design, and construction elements are still applicable to the Yacht-Master versions. Try not to confuse this watch with the Rolex Yacht-Master II which is sequel to the original.

The Yacht-Master Ref. 116622 can only be described as cool, calm and collected. The hint of almost-iridescent blue will likely catch the eye of many Rolex enthusiasts. As far as overall aesthetics go, this Rolex is an absolute stunner. This steel and platinum Yacht-Master comes with a dark rhodium dial and soft blue highlights. Right off the bat, you can see that there’s a subtle affair going on when compared to its more embellished siblings (see Oysterflex and Rolesor versions). The restrained look can be partly attributed to the dark dial.

The watch features a  platinum (Pt950) bi-directional bezel which may seem weird at first but the way it’s configured does make sense. The bi-directional design is utilized for yachting purposes like calculating the sailing time between two buoys. The sand-blasted finish and raised numerals look beautiful and are less direct compared to let’s say, a ceramic. Don’t get me wrong, this Yacht-Master doesn’t look pain at all. The polished bezel and glimmering dial allow the watch to pop where it counts.

Rolex Yacht-Master vs. Submariner

And then, there’s the blue highlight. It’s amazing how such a small detail on a line of text and second hand can add so much to the overall look of the watch. The addition of blue highlights to the Yacht-Master gives it so much energy, especially against the dark rhodium dial. This is yet another proof of Rolex’s mastery of attention to detail.

The Rolex Yacht-Master 116622 comes with a stainless steel case with a 40mm platinum bezel. There’s also a 37mm version for the ladies. The case and the bracelet are made from 904L stainless steel while the bezel is made from 950 platinum . This, of course, ensures the highest sense of luxury while keeping the watch tough as nails.

Rolex Yacht-Master vs. Submariner

All Yacht-Master 40 features the Oyster Bracelet which provides the much-needed balance of aesthetics, comfort, and function. There’s also the standard Oysterlock folding clasp and the Easylink comfort extension, features that are proprietary to Rolex. All of these features ensure the best fit and comfort that you can expect from the Rolex brand.

Rolex Yacht-Master vs. Submariner

Rolex Submariner Review

Rolex Yacht-Master vs. Submariner

Now, let’s move on to an iconic dive watch. Many watch collectors consider the Rolex Submariner as a quintessential timepiece. Introduced in 1954, the Submariner is a cornerstone of Rolex’s stable. Let’s take a look at what this legendary watch can offer. For this review, we’ll be using the No-Date Reference 114060 .

The Submariner comes in a 40mm stainless steel case . It is worth noting that the 114060 comes in a slightly squared design, along with thicker lugs. This gives the Submariner a more eye-catching look, although there are still many who prefer the thinner lugs on the older versions. If you prefer a more robust and tougher appearance for your Submariner, this model should not disappoint.

The unidirectional bezel is fitted with ceramic bezel insert . This is quite a notable change since previous models have aluminum ones. However, you’ll be happy to know that the new ceramic bezel makes it more scratch-resistant. I also like the ceramic because it gives off a nice glow under certain lighting conditions. The bezel also has engravings which provide a nice texture and depth.

Rolex Yacht-Master vs. Submariner

The Submariner comes in the instantly recognizable black dial. The indices are larger and are fitted with Chromalight (so it glows in the dark). The markers are outlined with an 18K white gold frame . Overall, the dial looks very crisp and legible which is never a bad thing if you use this bad boy for diving purposes. As far as looks go, this watch is about as classic as it gets.

The Submariner is water-resistant up to 300 meters (1,000 feet) . The middle case is made from 904L corrosive resistant steel which is also used in other industries like high technology and aerospace. The 904L steel is also highly polishable so it retains its beauty even after many years of usage. The winding crown is fitted with the proprietary TRIPLOCK triple waterproofness system. The crown is protected by the crown guard that brings the middle case altogether.

Rolex Yacht-Master vs. Submariner

The watch is fitted with the familiar solid-link OYSTER bracelet which is also crafted from 904L steel. The clasp features the proprietary Folding Oysterlock safety clasp with Rolex Glidelock extension system . This enables you to adjust the watch in 2mm increments up to 20mm to achieve the best fit and comfort. Personally, the Submariner is just a timepiece that I could wear at all times without needing to take it off.

For the timekeeping features, the Submariner doesn’t offer much but more than makes up for reliable and accurate timekeeping. The Submariner is powered by 3135 caliber, a self-winding movement for the timekeeping features and allows -2/+2 sec/day accuracy . Like the Yacht-Master, the Submariner 114060 has the Superlative Chronometer certification (COSC + Rolex certification after casing). All of these components make for a robust and reliable timepiece.

Head to Head

So which one do I recommend, the Yacht-Master or Submariner? Well, if it’s up to me, I will get both because both of these watches do complement each other. But if you just have to choose one, you can’t go wrong with the Submariner . However, I do understand that it can be difficult to choose between the two Rolexes since they’re very similar.

If you’re going to compare both watches side-by-side, you’ll see that the Submariner’s movement gives a thicker caseback, compared to the Yacht-Master which is noticeably thinner. In terms of style, I feel that the Yacht-Master is the dressier of the two. While wearing, the Submariner feels heavier than the Yacht-Master.

Rolex Yacht-Master vs. Submariner

When it comes to the bezel, I noticed that the Submariner feels more solid while the Yacht-Master doesn’t have many clicks in comparison. I don’t really like the 0 to 15-minute marker of the Yacht-Master bezel. The platinum bezel of Yacht-Master will likely collect scratches and dings over time. On the other hand, Submariner’s ceramic bezel is tougher and more resistant to scratches. Just avoid slamming your Submariner into a hard surface.

Another thing that I’m not crazy about the Yacht-Master is legibility. It could take about half a second for the eyes to distinguish the hands against the darker dial. It’s a good thing that the blue highlight stands out well against the rhodium background. The Submariner has better legibility between the two.

Lastly, you can’t really compare these two without mentioning the price. The Yacht-Master is more expensive than the Submariner by approximately several thousand dollars . So is it worth it to get the Yacht-Master with such a huge price difference? I think not but that’s only because both watches are very similar. However, this doesn’t mean that the Yacht-Master is not an excellent watch.

Final Thoughts – Rolex Yacht-Master vs. Submariner

As mentioned, both the Submariner and Yacht-Master are excellent high-end timepieces . Honestly, you really can’t go wrong with choosing either one. However, in my opinion, it’s hard to justify the price difference when both watches are very similar. Although the Yacht-Master is the more luxurious of the two, the Submariner wins for being the tougher and more legible piece. If you’re looking to get your first Rolex and budget is an issue, I highly recommend the Rolex Submariner .

The forgotten rolex wildcard..

Rolex Yacht Master 16622

The 1980s was a time of innovation at Rolex, with a refresh of everything in the Rolex catalog and putting a more modern and premium look to the entire line up. Gone are the days of Matte Painted dials, and hand-wound movements of the Daytona but in with the new Glossy dials, White Gold Indices and Sapphire Crystals, similar to the Rolex Line-Up you see today. The 1980s brought change aesthetically and internally to the entire catalog, but while Rolex was in development of the then new Submariner 16610, the iconic design you know today was a redesign of the original?

In the 1980s, Rolex wanted to significantly update and modernize the Rolex Submariner and give a more modern take of the outgoing Submariner 16800 of the late 70s-mid 80s. Rolex experimented with several designs, trying to give a more modern look while keeping the essence and design aspects of a submariner. They were adamant about keeping the submariner DNA for the new redesign and were scared that when unveiled, the design may not appeal to the fans of the brand and the submariner. We are of course talking about one of the most iconic and recognisable watches of all time. The thing was, they really liked the new design, since its more sleek and modern than the outgoing 16800. At the end of the day the Submariner 16610 you know and love came out and was an instant hit and the rest was history. But what happened to the prototype design? The Rolex Yacht Master 16622 was born.

Rolex Yachtmaster 16622

In 1997, we saw the introduction of the Stainless steel Rolex Yacht Master 16622. The 16622 series came in two dial variations Blue and wait for it…..Platinum. You Read it right, they used a solid platinum dial and a platinum rotating bezel, unique only to the Yachtmaster Line. This was the first time Rolex has experimented with the mix of elements being steel and Platinum in a sports watch .

The Rolex Yacht Master 16622 was also the first new release to use super luminova instead of tritium. The Rolesium Yacht Master was seen as a very unique watch that was somewhat oddball in the world of watches because of its combination of materials and its flashy looks featuring the polished centre link bracelet.

If you wanted a more elegant sports watch that looks good on formal occasions and also in the sports club, then the yacht master is the watch for you. The platinum dial glistens under the light and looks simply stunning together with the red contrast “Yacht Master” text and red seconds hand.

The Ladies 29mm and MidSize 35mm versions were also available and in my opinion, would be a stunning watch to pair with your significant other. One of the biggest drawbacks was the price, it was one of, if not the most expensive steel Rolex in the retail catalogue.

Rolex Yachtmaster 16622

The Rolex Yacht Master 16622 was updated in 2013 with the 116622. It included updates such as the more modern Rolex easy link clasp, an updated dial with thinner fonts and a smoother glossy look as opposed to the more metallic look of the old dial. The addition of super luminova instead of the old luminova also make the dial look different. Changes were also made to the bracelet with the end-links fitting much more nicely into the lugs.

Recently we have seen many things happen in the watch market . Rolex Sports Models have had a meteoric rise in value, the hype around every sports model in the Rolex range and truly there insane prices for some pieces in the Submariner ,GMT, Explorer and especially Daytona lines.

In my opinion the Rolex Yacht Master 16622 is a lot of watch for the money. You get precious metals, flashy looks, stunning dial, reliable movement, beautiful finishing and modern looks for around 8,000 USD or 400k pesos. All less than a new submariner !

Rolex Yacht Master 16622

  • One of the cheapest and best value Rolex sports models out there, or less than a new Submariner or the Submariner of its time, the yacht master is a great deal, especially if you want your first expensive piece. For collectors, this would fit collections perfectly, being a unique and elegant addition to your collection and your daily rotation.
  • The Yachtmaster has become iconic and has appeared on the wrist on many stars such as Brad Pitt, Hulk Hogan and most notably Bruce Willis.
  • Great wearability.
  • It's a Scratch Magnet, especially with the giant polished center links.
  • It's heavy, it has a good heft but it gets bothersome at times, due to its sheer weight caused by the platinum dial and bezel.
  • The size, some may find it bug due to the big bezel and smooth case, it appears bigger on some than the Submariner of the time.

The Watch Of The Open Seas: History Of The Rolex Yacht-Master

Rolex Yacht-Master 42 White Gold 226629

Instagram: @rolex

In the year 1992, Swiss watchmaker Rolex would debut a new model line at the Baselworld show that was strikingly similar to the already-popular Submariner. It featured the same 40mm Oyster case with a rotating bezel, the same chronometer-certified caliber, and the same Oyster bracelet.

Seemingly the only difference between the two was the white dial of that first Yacht-Master, a style which has never been an option on a Sub, and the inferior depth rating of 100m when compared to the Sub’s 300m.

Yet, the Yacht-Master was well-received upon launch, and with the passing of time, the yachting-inspired model has evolved and pioneered its own path within Rolex’s catalog.

Read on with us as we go back to the beginning and track the catalysts that paved the way for the most recent Yacht-Master release, the Yacht-Master 42 (226659), to become one of the hottest sports timepieces of the year.

The Release Of The Yacht-Master

The first Yacht-Master watch was launched in 1992 under reference number 16628. It featured a yellow gold case, a bidirectional graduated bezel, and a matching full-gold Oyster bracelet. Its dial was white with black hour indices, while at center were gold Mercedes hands, and beating inside was the 3135 movement.

Previous to the Yacht-Master’s introduction, Rolex had not released a new model line in a quarter century. So, why did they go with the Yacht-Master, a design that risked being a detractor from their existing Submariner? Let’s take a look at the inspiration.

The sport of yachting is one which demands precise timing and extreme coordination of the entire crew for optimal performance, particularly in offshore competitions.

Vintage Rolex Daytona Yacht-Master Prototype

Prototype Daytona Yacht-Master ref. 6239. Image: Christies.com

Rolex believed their waterproof and chronometer-grade timepieces to be more than qualified to handle the knocks of a regatta and keep ticking accurately. The brand is also notorious for their marketing prowess, which led them to act quickly in establishing an association with the sport.

Beginning in 1958 with their first sponsorship of a race, the relationship has endured until today, when the brand sponsors over a dozen international yachting events.

Nevertheless, it’s hard to deny that there exists a large gap between first contact in 1958 and the release of the yacht-inspired timepiece in the early ’90s. Why wasn’t the Yacht-Master released earlier on?

Well, Rolex played around with the idea of yachting chronograph early on, though it never materialized. All that’s left of these trials are an extremely limited number of Daytona ref. 6239 chronograph prototypes with a 39mm case (vs standard 36mm) and modified regatta dials.

Unfortunately, the Yacht-Master concept was scrapped and would not reappear until decades later.

Rolex Submariner With Date Window

When it did return, none of the previous Yacht-Master’s DNA was there. Furthermore, the 1992 Yacht-Master was bizarrely similar to the 16610 Sub of the time.

Interestingly enough, Rolex folklore tells of a time in the ’80s when the brand sought to update their Submariner . What resulted was less of an update and more of an overhaul, manifested as what we know now as the first Yacht-Master.

Apprehensive of the repercussions that making such aggressive design changes to their staple offering could bring, the brand chose instead to release the watch intended to be a new Submariner as the reborn Yacht-Master instead.

The move worked, and the new Yacht-Masters started flying off the shelves. The Yacht-Master was perceived as a more luxurious Sub, though its bidirectional bezel proved useful for on-the-fly countdowns which are critical in sailing competitions. The waterproof nature of the Oyster case further cemented the Yacht-Master as the ideal first mate.

Mid-Size & Ladies’ Yacht-Master

In 1994, just two years after the debut of the 16628, Rolex would introduce the same design but in smaller case sizes. These were:

  • Ref. 68628: Yacht-Master “Mid-Size” in 35mm
  • Ref. 69628: Yacht-Master Ladies’ in 29mm

This marked the first time that Rolex ever offered one of their sports models in a smaller case size; all previous instances of case size changes were increases as opposed to reductions. It has been speculated that the smaller cases were intended for the Asian market.

Rolex Yacht-Master Yellow Gold 16628

In the same year, Rolex also offered the same 16628 but this time with a deep blue dial. Blue dials tend to make for broadly-liked watches, and coupled with the gold case and bracelet, the new version was once again a hit.

The Platinum (Rolesium) Yacht-Master

The next update to the model line would come in 1999 with yet another home-run: the Rolesium Yacht-Master. The new watch featured a stainless steel case and bracelet with a platinum dial and platinum-insert bezel. Rolesium, a term registered by Rolex back in the ’30s for a combination of steel and platinum in a watch, was finally put to use.

The new platinum Yacht-Master ref. 16622 was not only more accessible than the previous all-gold varieties, it was also more versatile. This would lead the 16622 variety to become the face of the Yacht-Master line.

In fact, many online resources erroneously label it the first Yacht-Master ever; this should offer an idea of how emblematic it is in the watch industry.

The 16622 also presented a new dial and hand style that would mark Rolex as a whole through to the modern day. The new Yacht-Master boasted what is now recognized as the “maxi dial”.

Yellow Gold Rolex Yacht-Master Blue Dial 16628

The maxi dial is characterized by oversized hour indices as well as larger hands at center. To the untrained eye, the difference may be difficult to spot, though experienced collectors will note the change instantly.

The maxi dial became the style of choice for all modern Rolex sports watches, though it got its start in the 1999 platinum Yacht-Master. A Submariner would first feature a maxi dial in 2003, with the release of the 50th anniversary Rolex Submariner “Kermit” (16610LV).

All versions of the Yacht-Master produced after the introduction of the maxi dial would also feature the new dial design. This included the blue, gold, and white dial versions from years past.

The Two-Tone (Rolesor) Yacht-Master

Six years after the Rolesium Yacht-Master came to be, Rolex would once more put on display their mixed-metal Rolesor style in the two-tone Yacht-Master 16623.

Two-Tone Rolex Yacht-Master Blue Dial 16823

Yacht-Master ref. 16623. Instagram: @v.davidofftimepieces

The 2005 debuts possessed a 40mm steel case, a yellow gold bidirectional bezel, and a two-tone Oyster bracelet. As far as dials, many of the previous styles were also available like the black-on-white, though mother of pearl version were also introduced.

It was during Baselworld 2007 when Rolex would introduce the Yacht-Master’s younger and much larger sibling, the Yacht-Master II. Whereas the original Yacht-Master was very close functionally to the Sub, the Yacht-Master II was completely the opposite.

It can be said that the only overlap between the YM and the YMII is be the name, as the second iteration looks like a whole new watch. This time, though, it’s clear that the watch has been designed with the needs of yachting professionals in mind.

Rolex Yacht-Master II In Yellow Gold

The first Yacht-Master II were marked by a 44mm Oyster case, an Oyster bracelet, a white dial,  and a blue Cerachrom (ceramic) Ring Command bezel. The first two references, 116688 and 116689, were made of yellow gold and white gold, respectively.

Powering the YMII was another innovation – Rolex’s in-house calibre 4161. It features the COSC-chronometer certification and 72-hour power reserve that are today’s standard, though they were industry-leading at the time. Most notable, though, was the 4161 movement’s functions.

The new caliber boasted a “ programmable countdown with mechanical memory and on-the-fly synchronization. ” Naturally, the programming of the movement required the use of the Ring Command bezel, a feature which had also never been encountered on a Rolex watch before.

In later years, Rolex would go on to release Rolesor and full-steel versions of the Yacht-Master II, both of which have been relatively successful. The Yacht-Master II has certainly earned a spot in the brand’s catalog, and is sure to stick around for next couple of decades.

The Six-Digit Yacht-Master

Yacht-Master 116622

Twenty years after it debuted as the 16628, the Yacht-Master would see in 2012 the modernization that had been sweeping Rolex’s other model families.

Aside from receiving a new six-digit reference number (116622), subtle aesthetic changes were also present, as was an outstanding new dial option – the Cobalt Blue dial.

The case was now a “super case”, which retained the 40mm diameter but was styled differently. The bezel was now completely platinum, where previous versions were made of steel with a platinum insert. The Oyster bracelet had likewise been upgraded.

A platinum bezel / platinum dial option was still part of the collection and therefore received the same upgrades. Unfortunately, this iconic “albino” look would be completely discontinued in 2017.

The subsequent and most recent significant change to the Yacht-Master family took place in 2015, when Rolex first introduced the Everose Yacht-Master 40 ref. 116655.

Rolex Everose Yacht-Master On Oysterflex Bracelet

Rolex Everose Yacht-Master on Oysterflex bracelet

The newest iteration of the YM possessed some new features. The case was made of Everose, and the bezel now boasted a black Cerachrom insert. Securing the watch to the wrist was another Rolex first – the Oysterflex rubber ‘bracelet’.

Before the 116655, no Rolex watch had ever sported a rubber band. The brand still refers to it as a bracelet given the metal elements within the band, but these are not obvious even with the watch in the hand.

This same style of Yacht-Master would receive the next update in 2019, when Rolex introduced the Yacht-Master 42 in white gold.

What’s Next?

With the recent changes that the Yacht-Master line has had, it is clear that Rolex intends to keep this model family alive and well for years to come. Consumers are likewise responding to each new release, offering plenty of feedback with their pocketbooks.

Rolex Yacht-Master vs. Submariner Date: Which is Better?

yacht master vs submariner

Table of Contents

When we dive into the oceanic worlds of the Rolex Yacht-Master and Submariner Date, it’s fascinating how each series, while sharing maritime DNA, sails across distinctive vibes, especially in the context of their sporty aesthetics.

The Rolex Yacht-Master is often perceived as having a slightly more laid-back, sporty-yet-elegant aura, complementing a leisurely yacht deck day. On the flip side, the Rolex Submariner Date embraces its rugged, utilitarian roots, designed for divers — it has a more robust appearance suited for an adventurous spirit.

By understanding their differences, you can determine which between the Rolex Yacht-Master and the Submariner Date match your needs, tastes, and preferences. This article comprehensively outlines the polarity between these Rolex watches .

Comparison Table: Rolex Yacht-Master vs. Submariner Date

When deciding between the Rolex Yacht-Master and Submariner, it is essential to consider each timepiece’s purpose and style preferences.

The Yacht-Master , with cases available in 37mm, 40mm, and 42mm, offers a water resistance of 100m, suitable for occasional aquatic activities. Conversely, the Submariner , available in 37mm, 40mm, and 41mm sizes, boasts a 300m water resistance, ideal for divers and water sports aficionados.

Ultimately, the decision between the Rolex Yacht-Master and Submariner comes down to personal preferences, intended use, and style considerations.

The following sections will dive deeper into the major aspects in which the Rolex Yacht-Master and the Submariner Date differ.

Heritage and Brand

The history of Submariner , began in 1953, didn’t merely indicate time but curated a legacy that struck a balance between daily utility and diver-friendly functionality, augmented by a date feature. Its path, traversed by icons like James Bond and Jacques Cousteau , became synonymous with a daring spirit.

In contrast, the Yacht-Master, casting its sails in 1992 , embarked on a journey through the elite nautical realms, immediately becoming a lighthouse of maritime luxury and pinpoint precision.

When we traverse the perception and placement of the Submariner Date, we encounter a celebration of utility enmeshed with a stately elegance, rendering it a robust diver’s companion.

Conversely, the Yacht-Master whispers of lavish sails and elite marine escapades, without compromising on the brand’s unwavering pillars, ensuring its allure is as versatile as it is luxurious.

Design and Aesthetics

The Yacht-Master dazzles with a bidirectional rotatable bezel adorned with polished, raised numerals against a matte, sand-blasted background, while exploring a luxurious and varied color palette of blues, grays, and Everose gold.

The meticulously designed dial features large, luminescent hour markers and broad hands, ensuring elegance and readability, and is available in a wide range of sizes (29mm to 42mm) to accommodate various wrist dimensions.

Conversely, the Submariner Date is renowned for its practical and rugged aesthetic, with a unidirectional rotating bezel that safeguards divers by providing bold, clear numerals and graduations. Its color scheme is classic and conservative, encapsulating the following hues:

  • Greens

All these transition smoothly from casual to formal settings.

The dial, though also legible, presents a sturdier look with its iconic Mercedes hands and a date window emphasized by a Cyclops lens . Predominantly sporting a masculine aura, it offers sizes like 37mm, 40mm, and 41mm.

The Yacht-Master, a treasure of the sea, wraps the wrist in a lavish Oyster bracelet and Everose gold ensemble, whispering of opulence with every tick of its luminescent Chromalight display under a subtly glimmering sunburst dial.

Meanwhile, the bidirectional, often sandblasted or Cerachrom ceramic bezel elegantly traces adventures across calm oceans, presenting a piece that is as much a statement of luxury as it is a functional maritime timepiece.

In contrast, the Submariner Date is dominated by durable Oystersteel and accompanied by a unidirectional rotatable Cerachrom ceramic bezel, ensuring the safety and precision of timekeeping in the depths of the ocean.

Its Chromalight display, too, emerges as a steadfast luminescent guide in the shadowy abyss, with a metal dial quietly, solemnly safeguarding the time.

Movement and Precision

The Rolex Yacht-Master and Submariner Date, while both employing the meticulous Caliber 3235 movement and adhering to the brand’s esteemed standards of precision and reliability, present these attributes within different contexts and aesthetic appeals.

The Yacht-Master, with its Superlative Chronometer status, assures a remarkable precision of -2/+2 seconds per day, gently transcending COSC standards and mimicking the ceaseless ebb and flow of the ocean with its perpetual rotor as well as its 70-hour power reserve.

In contrast, the Submariner Date, while also powered by the Caliber 3235 and boasting the same exceptional precision, posits itself as a sturdy and steadfast timekeeper in the solitary depths of the sea with the same 70-hour power reserve.

Price Range

The price range for the Rolex Yacht-Master and the Submariner Date varies depending on the materials used for each model.

Generally, though, the Yacht-Master collection demands higher price points than the other. According to Watch Charts, it retails around S$6,444 to S$55,084 in a private sales market.

Meanwhile, the grey market may dictate more significant prices that range between S$5,106 and S$323,087 . The most exclusive and expensive Yacht-Master is typically bedazzled by gems and other stones.

On the other hand, the Rolex Submariner Date may retail for S$14,350 to S$54,500 but can be sold in a secondary market for S$9,565 to S$563,677 , depending on the model, demand, rarity, gems and materials used, etc.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. why is the yacht-master not as popular as the submariner.

The Yacht-Master is not as popular as the Submariner mainly because the Submariner has a longer history and a more established reputation in the watch world of professional diving.

Launched in 1953, the Submariner’s models quickly became iconic dive watches , while the Yacht-Master was introduced in 1992 as a more luxurious and less rugged alternative. Additionally, the Submariner has been featured in various James Bond movies, which further boosts its popularity and recognition.

2. Which Submariner is the Most Popular?

The most popular Submariner model is subjective and may vary depending on personal preferences. However, the reference 116610LN (stainless steel model with black dial and black Cerachrom bezel) is often considered one of the most sought-after models.

Its timeless design, durability, and Rolex’s signature Oyster case with a water resistance of up to 300 meters make it a popular choice among watch lovers.

While both watches offer excellent time-keeping and precision qualities, where you intended to use it is vital. If you want a dressy watch that can also be used for nautical adventures, the Yacht-Master is the way to go. Meanwhile, if your penchant lies in diving and want a watch that can succumb to the underwater pressure, the Submariner Date is the better choice.

Key Takeaways

  • The Yacht-Master and the Submariner Date employ the Caliber 3235 movement, reflecting Rolex’s dedication to precision.

The Rolex Yacht-Master vs. the Submariner: What’s the difference?

Few sports watches yield as much influence as Rolex’s two nautical timepieces: The Rolex Yacht-Master and the Submariner. While one is considered the most famous model in the Swiss brand’s extensive catalogue, the other is a luxurious icon, a classic in its own right.

Undeniably, the 1953 Rolex Submariner has long been the most esteemed nautical timepiece for divers, and its reputation as James Bond’s signature watch pre-Omega cements its iconic status. However, the 1992 Yacht-Master offers stern competition, with a luxurious design that is effortlessly timeless and rich in yachting heritage.

However, despite differences in appearance, performance, and mechanics, the Yacht-Master and Submariner are inextricably intertwined with each other’s identity, making it difficult for Rolex collectors to choose a favourite. Here, we look at the difference between the Yacht-Master and Submariner series to help you choose the best one.

Rolex yacht-master vs. the submariner.

Our recent blog posts discuss the distinctive histories of the Rolex Submariner and Yacht-Master . However, before delving into the differences between these two iconic timepieces, read on for a brief introduction.

Widely considered the most famous Rolex watch, the Submariner’s reputation precedes itself. It launched in 1953 and, in doing so, made history as the first timepiece for divers waterproof to a depth of 100 metres.

rolex yacht master submariner

Today, the Submariner enjoys legendary status in Rolex’s extensive catalogue. It has received various updates to enhance and perfect its performance, from increasing its waterproof depth to 300 metres to aesthetic changes that have cemented its status as Rolex’s most luxurious talking point.

While divers’ needs determine the Submariner’s design, its reach has extended well beyond the community it was initially intended for. Each model sets a benchmark for diver’s watches worldwide while simultaneously offering Rolex collectors a practical timepiece that exudes luxury.

The Rolex Yacht-Master

Launched in 1992, the Rolex Yacht-Master bezel allows the user to measure time intervals, perfect for yacht racing. Luxury is at the forefront of its design, with the original model featuring a magnificent gold profile that demands attention in any setting.

rolex yacht master submariner

Rolex Yacht-Master 16623 – Men’s Watch – Blue Dial – 2005

Upon release, the Yacht-Master was positioned as a luxury watch featuring beautifully crafted premium materials like gold and platinum. It was immediately well-received by Rolex collectors worldwide – so much so that some fifteen years later, Rolex expanded the series with the 2007 Yacht-Master II . This updated take on the classic took Rolex’s grandeur and turned it on its head, presenting an overstated look that caused time to stand still, dividing collectors’ opinions far and wide.

Today, the Yacht-Master series is considered a timeless icon, soon to be a classic. Moreover, its glamorous design, rich sailing heritage, and exemplary sporting features make it as relevant today as it was upon release.

How are the Rolex Submariner and Yacht-Master related?

The Rolex Submariner and Yacht-Master are renowned for their iconic designs dedicated to sports enthusiasts’ needs. However, they share much more than seafaring heritage, with the Yacht-Master rumoured to originally be an adventurous remodelling of the classic diver’s watch.

Rumours indicate that Rolex had plans to redesign the famed Submariner watch, creating a more luxurious take on the classic. However, plans were abandoned for undisclosed reasons, leaving the Swiss brand with unfinished work.

Rather than abandoning the project entirely, Rolex released a separate model: The 1992 Yacht-Master. This new timepiece offered collectors a more glamorous showpiece than the Submariner, with an unapologetically luxurious look.

What’s the difference between the Yacht-Master and the Submariner?

There’s no denying that these two timepieces share similar aesthetics. However, there is a world of difference between them. Read on as we delve into the differences between the Yacht-Master and Submariner!

Rolex creates various bezels, from those designed to add aesthetic impact and luxury to functional bezels that transform a traditional timepiece into a tool watch. The Submariner and Yacht-Master both feature practical bezels. However, neither forgo luxury.

The Submariner bezels have been crafted from aluminium and, more recently, a ceramic alloy, which is durable and scratch-resistant. It is unidirectional, turning one way to prevent confusion when diving – a crucial safety element. Moreover, in keeping with diving precautions, it is marked for 60 minutes, with practical markers for the first 15.

On the contrary, the Yacht-Master’s bezel rotates in both directions, allowing the wearer complete flexibility when timing regatta races. It is expertly crafted from the most luxurious materials, including platinum and 18ct gold. The bezel also features raised 60-minute gradations that sit on the surface of the bezel rather than being engraved.

The Submariner and Yacht-Master have been available with various dial styles and colours. However, the Yacht-Master was the first Rolex to feature the maxi dial, with oversized hour markers and wider hands. While the maxi dial has historically divided opinion, it serves a distinct purpose for yachting enthusiasts, making the dial much easier to read.

The maxi dial would be added to the Submariner much later (Vintage models like the 5513 dials also share this nickname), offering a chromalight display for enhanced visibility underwater and in dark environments, an essential safety feature for divers.

Watch movement differences

The Submariner and Yacht-Master previously featured the calibre 3135 movement, which has powered the Submariner since 1998. However, Rolex updated the 126622 Yacht-Master in 2019 with a new movement: The calibre 3235. This enhanced the watches’ efficiency by approximately 15% and offered an improved 70-hour power reserve.

While this updated movement inevitably pits the Yacht-Master ahead of the Submariner, the beloved divers’ watch later received the upgraded 3235 movement with the introduction of the 126610 Submariner in 2020.

Yacht-Master and Submariner sizes

The Yacht-Master was the first sports watch available in three sizes: 29mm, 35mm, and 40mm. On the contrary, the Submariner is largely available in 40mm and 41mm sizes. However, between 1953 and 1959, several stainless steel Submariner models were available in 37mm.

Pictured right: Yacht-Master 126621 – Gents Watch – Black Dial – 2020

Although they feature various similarities, the Rolex Yacht-Master and Submariner offer Rolex collectors two different experiences. While the Submariner exudes understated luxury, the Yacht-Master is unashamedly bold and glamorous, and the Yacht-Master ll even more so.

However, when choosing between these iconic sports watches, there’s no wrong choice, with each model promising a truly opulent timepiece that will be appreciated in any setting.

Submariner Date vs. Yacht-Master 40

rolex yacht master submariner

In the past five years or so, Rolex has focused significantly on the Yacht-Master lineup. In 2015, we got the Everose Yacht-Master with a brand new Oysterflex bracelet. In 2016 we got the two-tone steel and Everose Yacht-Master. In 2017, we got the flashy sapphire-set bezel version of the Yacht-Master . And earlier this year, we got the biggest Yacht-Master to date with a 42mm case size.

On the other hand, the last update the Rolex Submariner collection got was the arrival of the Submariner 114060 in 2012 and before that, the introduction of the Submariner Date 116610LN in 2010. Yet, despite the changes to one collection and the lack of changes to another, one thing remains – the striking similarities between the Submariner Date and the Yacht-Master 40.

Submariner Date vs. Yacht-Master 40

When the Yacht-Master first hit the market in 1992, dressed in its full 18k yellow gold glory, many observed that the then-new Rolex sports watch looked like a fancy version of the Submariner. Yes, there was a full yellow gold Submariner already available at the time, but the Yacht-Master offered even more gold thanks to its 18k bezel. It’s no secret that the Yacht-Master never achieved the status that the Submariner has enjoyed – but that’s not really fair to say since no other watch has either. Let’s dig into the details.

Submariner Date vs. Yacht-Master 40

Case and Dial: Submariner Date vs. Yacht-Master 40

First things first, because there are several types of Submariner and Yacht-Master models, we selected two that are the most alike for this comparative review: the steel and ceramic Submariner Date ref. 116610LN and the steel and platinum Yacht-Master 40 ref. 116622.

Submariner Date vs. Yacht-Master 40

Right off the bat, we see that both the Submariner and the Yacht-Master have 40mm Oyster cases fitted with Triplock screw-down winding crowns. However, the Submariner does have a water resistance rating of 300 meters while the Yacht-Master’s is 100 meters – after all, the first is a dive watch while the latter is a boating watch.

Both Rolex models have a rotating bezel, but the Submariner’s bezel only rotates in one direction as a fail-safe method so divers don’t accidentally underestimate how long they’ve been underwater. Furthermore, the Submariner 116610LN’s bezel is constructed from Cerachrom ceramic with engraved markings, while the Yacht-Master 116622’s bezel is fashioned from 950 platinum and features raised numerals.

Submariner Date vs. Yacht-Master 40

Aside from color, the dials of the Submariner Date and Yacht-Master 40 are basically identical. There’s the familiar mix of round, rectangular, and triangular lume-filled and white gold framed hour markers, the Mercedes-style hands, and the date window plus Cyclops lens combo at 3 o’clock. Yet, it must be mentioned that all of the various dials of the Yacht-Master (blue, dark rhodium, and sand-blasted platinum) do indeed look a bit more luxurious than the utilitarian vibe of the black Submariner dial.

Submariner Date vs. Yacht-Master 40

Bracelet and Movement: Submariner Date vs. Yacht-Master 40

Moving onto the bracelet, both of these Rolex sports watches are fitted with the robust three-link Oyster bracelet. However, the Submariner bracelet does have the additional benefit of their Glidelock extension system, which allows the bracelet to extend/contract in 2mm increments for a total of 20mm. The Yacht-Master’s Oyster bracelet comes equipped with Rolex’s Easylink extension system, which increases the length of the bracelet by an additional 5mm.

Submariner Date vs. Yacht-Master 40

Both the Submariner Date ref. 116610LN and the Yacht-Master 40 ref. 116622 run on Rolex’s Caliber 3135 self-winding movement. The Caliber 3135 has been the company’s go-to time and date movement since 1988. It has the hacking feature (the seconds hand stops when the crown is pulled out) for precise time-setting, and a quickset date feature (the date is set independently from the timekeeping hands) for easy adjusting. The movement offers a power reserve of 48 hours, and since 2015, an accuracy rating of -2/+2 seconds per day.

It’s worth mentioning that Rolex no longer makes the Yacht-Master 40 ref. 116622. It was replaced with the Yacht-Master 40 ref. 126622 just this year, which has the new-generation Caliber 3235 inside the watch.

Submariner Date vs. Yacht-Master 40

Price and Value: Submariner Date vs. Yacht-Master 40

Interestingly, if we look at the retail price of the Submariner Date vs. Yacht-Master 40, we see that the Yacht-Master is quite a bit more expensive at just under $12,000 while the Submariner is priced at just over $8,500. Yet, in the secondary market, these two models hover around a similar price point – currently around $9,000 (give or take a few hundred dollars depending on condition and age). More than anything, that speaks to the popularity and reselling value of the Rolex Sub.

Submariner Date vs. Yacht-Master 40

All in all, the Yacht-Master and the Submariner are unquestionably similar in style and mechanics but with enough differences that allow them to each offer their own unique selling proposition.

What about you; are you team Submariner or team Yacht-Master?

Luxury rules at the moscow yacht show.

by Maria Sapozhnikova

rolex yacht master submariner

The windy Russian autumn weather might be a little bit tricky for sailing, but it doesn’t stop brave yachtsmen from all over the world from flocking to Russian capital in the beginning of September when the Moscow Yacht Show commences. The main Russian Yacht exhibition gathers professional and amateur yacht lovers together under the wing of The Royal Yacht Club.

This year it took place for a fourth time already. The exhibition is considered the principal event on the sporting and social calendar. The Moscow Yacht Show 2010 united in one area three of the largest Russian yachts distributors: Ultramarine, Nordmarine and Premium Yachts.

A wide range of yachts were on display for a week. An exhibition showcased yachts both from Russian manufacturers and world famous brands: Azimut, Princess, Ferretti, Pershing, Riviera, Doral, Linssen, etc.

It was a real feast for seafarers as visitors of the show had a unique chance not only to take a look at the newest superyachts before they hit the market, but also to evaluate their driving advantages during the test drive. The show provided an excellent opportunity for yacht enthusiasts to choose and buy a new boat for the next season.

The event started with the grandiose gala evening. It included grand dinner, the concert and professional awards ceremony for achievements in Russian yachting industry. The guests also enjoyed the annual regatta.

Special guest Paolo Vitelli, Azimut Benetti Group president, opened the evening.

Next year organizers assured guests they would bring more yachts, the scale of which will even make oligarch Roman Abramovich envious. Sounds very promising indeed.

MIBS is organised by the ITE Group and it is one of Russia’s leading boat shows and is an internationally recognised superyacht event. The show covering everything from small parts and accessories to large superyacht with over 9,000 people and 178 exhibitors attended the last year show.

The Paolo Scanu-designed Sunrise 45 yacht is an ocean-going cruising yacht that was released in 2009 to much acclaim at this was the group’s first-ever model.

Sunrise Yachts was founded in 2007 by the German entrepreneur Herbert P Baum along with the French-British yacht builder Guillaume Roché. The luxury yacht group is based in Antalya, Turkey and utilises a 10,000sq m shipyard facility. Sunrise has two sheds measuring 100m (328ft) x 16m (53ft), as well as a 70m (230ft) x 16m (53ft) fully acclimatized paint shed that can accommodate new-build and refit projects up to 65m (213ft) in length and 1,200 tonnes displacement.

Along each side of the yacht-building facility, space is available for long-term sub-contractors with the latest equipment and logistics capabilities, along with air-conditioned storage, ventilation and extraction plants. The shipyard is organized as an “assembler,” based loosely on the car industry’s model, with a small, yet powerful project management team charged with running all the in-house long-term sub-contractors.

For the first time Rosatom Fuel Division supplied fresh nuclear fuel to the world’s only floating nuclear cogeneration plant in the Arctic

The fuel was supplied to the northernmost town of Russia along the Northern Sea Route.

rolex yacht master submariner

The first in the history of the power plant refueling, that is, the replacement of spent nuclear fuel with fresh one, is planned to begin before 2024. The manufacturer of nuclear fuel for all Russian nuclear icebreakers, as well as the Akademik Lomonosov FNPP, is Machinery Manufacturing Plant, Joint-Stock Company (MSZ JSC), a company of Rosatom Fuel Company TVEL that is based in Elektrostal, Moscow Region.

The FNPP includes two KLT-40S reactors of the icebreaking type. Unlike convenient ground-based large reactors (that require partial replacement of fuel rods once every 12-18 months), in the case of these reactors, the refueling takes place once every few years and includes unloading of the entire reactor core and loading of fresh fuel into the reactor.

The cores of KLT-40 reactors of the Akademik Lomonosov floating power unit have a number of advantages compared to the reference ones: a cassette core was used for the first time in the history of the unit, which made it possible to increase the fuel energy resource to 3-3.5 years between refuelings, and also reduce the fuel component of the electricity cost by one and a half times. The FNPP operating experience formed the basis for the designs of reactors for nuclear icebreakers of the newest series 22220. Three such icebreakers have been launched by now.

For the first time the power units of the Akademik Lomonosov floating nuclear power plant were connected to the grid in December 2019, and put into commercial operation in May 2020. The supply of nuclear fuel from Elektrostal to Pevek and its loading into the second reactor is planned for 2024. The total power of the Akademik Lomonosov FNPP, supplied to the coastal grid of Pevek without thermal energy consumption on shore, is about 76 MW, being about 44 MW in the maximum thermal power supply mode. The FNPP generated 194 million kWh according to the results of 2023. The population of Pevek is just a little more than 4 thousand, while the FNPP has a potential for supplying electricity to a city with a population of up to 100 thousand people. After the FNPP commissioning two goals were achieved. These include first of all the replacement of the retiring capacities of the Bilibino NPP, which has been operating since 1974, as well as the Chaunskaya TPP, which has already been operating for more than 70 years. Secondly, energy is supplied to the main mining companies in western Chukotka in the Chaun-Bilibino energy hub a large ore and metal cluster, including gold mining companies and projects related to the development of the Baimsk ore zone. In September 2023, a 110 kilovolt power transmission line with a length of 490 kilometers was put into operation, connecting the towns of Pevek and Bilibino. The line increased the reliability of energy supply from the FNPP to both Bilibino consumers and mining companies, the largest of which is the Baimsky GOK. The comprehensive development of the Russian Arctic is a national strategic priority. To increase the NSR traffic is of paramount importance for accomplishment of the tasks set in the field of cargo shipping. This logistics corridor is being developed due regular freight voyages, construction of new nuclear-powered icebreakers and modernization of the relevant infrastructure. Rosatom companies are actively involved in this work. Rosatom Fuel Company TVEL (Rosatom Fuel Division) includes companies fabricating nuclear fuel, converting and enriching uranium, manufacturing gas centrifuges, conducting researches and producing designs. As the only nuclear fuel supplier to Russian NPPs, TVEL supplies fuel for a total of 75 power reactors in 15 countries, for research reactors in nine countries, as well as for propulsion reactors of the Russian nuclear fleet. Every sixth power reactor in the world runs on TVEL fuel. Rosatom Fuel Division is the world’s largest producer of enriched uranium and the leader on the global stable isotope market. The Fuel Division is actively developing new businesses in chemistry, metallurgy, energy storage technologies, 3D printing, digital products, and decommissioning of nuclear facilities. TVEL also includes Rosatom integrators for additive technologies and electricity storage systems. Rosenergoatom, Joint-Stock Company is part of Rosatom Electric Power Division and one of the largest companies in the industry acting as an operator of nuclear power plants. It includes, as its branches, 11 operating NPPs, including the FNPP, the Scientific and Technical Center for Emergency Operations at NPPs, Design and Engineering as well as Technological companies. In total, 37 power units with a total installed capacity of over 29.5 GW are in operation at 11 nuclear power plants in Russia. Machinery Manufacturing Plant, Joint-Stock Company (MSZ JSC, Elektrostal) is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of fuel for nuclear power plants. The company produces fuel assemblies for VVER-440, VVER-1000, RBMK-1000, BN-600,800, VK-50, EGP-6; powders and fuel pellets intended for supply to foreign customers. It also produces nuclear fuel for research reactors. The plant belongs to the TVEL Fuel Company of Rosatom.

Denica Riadini‑Flesch

Regenerating land, lives and tradition in indonesia.

Social entrepreneur Denica Riadini-Flesch has succeeded in creating one of the world’s first regenerative farm-to-closet supply chains – SukkhaCitta, meaning happiness. Determined to empower rural artisans in Indonesia, she has created hundreds of jobs with fair pay for those who craft high-end clothing using traditional and sustainable techniques.

SukkhaCitta’s work begins with cotton, which Riadini-Flesch ensures is sourced sustainably. Farmers working with the brand are taught indigenous techniques to grow cotton while regenerating the earth. In their fields, complementary crops are planted alongside the cotton, each with its own role in revitalizing the over-worked soils. Once the cotton is harvested, spun and woven by the women, it is coloured using natural, plant-based dyes. “We have prevented over 3 million litres of toxic dyes from being dumped into our rivers by using completely natural dyes,” explains Riadini-Flesch.
