I am unfortunately going to give a poor review from an administrative standpoint. I would recommend that you don't buy your tickets online in advance. On Oct 21, 2023, my husband and I were traveling with two friends down Ritchie hwy in Severna Park MD on our way to the haunted house event at 730, we didn't make it, we were smashed from behind at a stop light and had to be taken to the emergency room, all with injury. The next day I contacted 301 Devils Playground and nobody answered the phone so I left a message on Oct 22, 2023 explaining the situation and asked if I could provide a police report and that I would love to get another time or a refund. I paid well over $225 and thought that it was an extreme and unexpected event even though they have a no refund or rain check statement, I thought that the company would have considered our request.

Wow my friend and I had an absolute blast....The actors were awesome! I totally recommend getting the hell pass. I felt they did a good job handing the crowd with covid awareness. The security services was top notch. I had a bit of a low blood sugar incident and they responded immediately.

Had a good time here with my fam. We purchased our tickets online and got a small discount since we purchased 6 tickets. The ticket price is definitely worth it for the 4 attractions (House of Hell, 3D Phobia, Barn of Torture, The Harvest) however the lines were insanely long. We waited one hour just to get past the 1st admission gate and then another hour to enter the 1st attraction. They do offer a "hell pass" for $10 extra so you can skip to the front of the line but we didn't get that. Now thinking about it, I wish we would've just paid the extra money because it was cold and we basically waited 2hrs to get in. The 4 attractions took about 45min-1hr to get through. My favorite one though has to be the House of Hell. I definitely screamed a couple of times so kuddos to the scary actors. I definitely wouldn't recommend this place for anyone younger than 13ish yrs old but hey, to each their own. Overall this has been one of the better haunted attractions I've been to and definitely recommend.

In 30 years of going to Haunted Houses all over the country this was by far the best my family had ever attended. Two separate haunted houses.... both equally scary and long in duration. It's well worth the value of tix (which are already cheap). Super scary houses, my 11 year old and her friend did them with my wife but we kept my 8-yr old out of them (a little too much for him, we did paintball instead!). They were definitely scared, my wife however said the workers did adjust their level of "scariness" after seeing younger kids as to not completely terrify them. The house has so many different elements and "zones", it isn't a quick walk through. Each room has a scary feature be it a person, or simulation. The last phase of the house is dedicated to clowns, and boy are they dedicated!!! The barn- oh my goodness! That was so fun, and scary! You're chased with a chainsaw, haunted by dolls, and the girl from the ring. Characters stay in character, and provide the right level of fright! Paintball hay ride (zombie).... absolute blast! My 8 yr old and I did this three times!! He had so much fun, we got tons of paintballs, they play music and zombies walk all around open fields, hide in spots etc. This was a great age appropriate event for the younger ones not able to do house or barn event. It wasn't terrifying, but more entertaining. Scary folks running around... they have folks running around w/ chainsaws, penny wise, and other current horror film characters just walking around. Lots of places for pics/selfies for the millennials. Big thanks to Missy (owner) and Maggie. They were super friendly to my family after they discovered how far we drove (specifically for paintball zombie ride). This is a family/friend affair and the staff does in fact make sure they don't "over-scare" little ones. We had a blast and will definitely be back. We drove two hours and spent nearly 3.5 hrs there. We will definitely return!

This was literally so much fun! The decorations were really well made and everyone was really spooky and cool. The actors were really well dressed up and genuinely scared me at times. 10/10 I'm coming back next year.

Photo of Jenn S.

SO much fun! It may be tempting to rush through when you're scared, but try to take it all in as much as you can because when you're all done you're gunna wish you could go through again! Crazy sets with lots of details and very impressive animatronics

Devil's playground rocks.

This is by far the best Halloween attraction I've ever been to, and for $25, the price is well worth it. We had just visited Field of Screams in PA and this is on PAR with that. The actors truly sold their parts and guests were entertained from the minute they went in the line to the minute they exited. The animatronics were terrific, especially the zombie at the entrance line that interacted with guests was out of this world funny/creepy. The scenes were awesome and the 3-D effects were incredible. Please, Please, Please don't ever stop.

Scary but exciting

Freaky haunts. The attractions were scary but exciting. 5 stars would not only recommend.

Email Verified Exhilarating experience

We went for the lights out event and it was mind blowing. The staff managed to get us through both the haunts and we had a tough time finding our way out. Holding hands and facing the challenges thrown by the actors, it was an exhilarating experience. It was my first light out event. So, there is no way I can judge or compare with others. No regrets.

Definitely be back

I am not complaining about the lines. The staff still managed to give us an exclusive, picture perfect scares. The barn and the house had good amount of scares. The actors kept us on our feet and got us running. It was a never-ending phenomenon and had us even in splits of laughter. Definitely pay another visit.

Email Verified Amazing actors...

I had the best Halloween experience here and it was fun with a big gang of friends. The wait outside was a long one. The organizers had music, food, and a lot of entertainment going on like in a carnival. It was never boring. The location was huge and very creatively set. The barn looked very much a haunted one and the house of hell looked hellish. The actors had the best makeover.

Email Verified Brilliant!

Brilliant! Most fun I have had in a long time! Loved every bit of it. Amazing place to have fun and get spoooked!

Email Verified Above expectations

I rarely visit a haunt. I took my family this time to this place after reading the reviews. Honestly, it was above expectations. The fun was unlimited. The kids did like the scenes and were pretty excited about it.

Good entertainment

Great props, actors and vibe there. Tormentors to the core, they can get up close, stalk you and play tricks. It was equally entertaining inside.

Freaky haunts!!

Had a great adventure....

Overall great experience. Both the houses were unique and it had the best settings that was beautiful. The barn was scary and so was the house of hell. Got some interesting merchandise along. Check it out. You will surely have fun.

Email Verified Very realistic haunted house

I visited with family at 301 Devil’s Playground on Friday the 13th. The place offers 3 creepy haunted attractions at reasonable ticket rates. Zombie shoot was my absolute favorite. House feels very realistic with all those effects and actors.

Email Verified Got spooked several times!!

This place is freaking awesome. We’ve never experience such type of terror inside the haunted houses. We went on a Saturday in a group of four. The queue was long, but didn’t take much time to get inside the facilities. All the rooms were designed with an eye-on detail and all stuffs were very scary. The maze was perfectly designed as we all got spooked so many times. Impressed by the actor’s costumes and makeup and their commitment to scare us. Well done guys. We would love to visit again next year.

Fun and horror

Amazing place to get a blend of fun and horror. We were thrilled by the performance of actors inside the house. We screamed, yelled and ran from one extreme to another. At the end, we enjoyed the paintball hayride. It was a soothing experience after a knack of horror. Overall, a well spent weekend with my family. Highly recommended attraction.

Real time interactive haunt.

Amazing place to experience real time interactive haunts. We went in a group of four and booked the tickets online as they were offering discounts. Superb ambience and electrifying performance by the DJ. All three attractions were unique and each room has different theme supported by animatronics. The Barn of Torture turned out to be a magnificent haunted house, with substantial number of energetic actors draped in creepy costumes and holding scary equipment’s. It was fun to scream, yell, shout and held up each other to ward off evil spirits.

House of Hell took us through real hell

I am a fan of haunted houses and big scares. My cousin’s favourite was the Barn while I loved the Zombies. It was fun shooting at the zombies from the truck. The House of Hell took us through some real hell. The hell tunnel was wicked while the zombie wall tunnel was an awesome experience. To sum it up, an amazing place for friends and family visits. I will come again with my kids.

Email Verified Most terrifying haunt

Awesome haunt and they upgrade every year so it’s always new. This year, the most terrifying part of the visit encountered was in the House of Hell. It had some scary props and creepy looking characters who will scare the crap out of you. I also liked the characters Penny Wise and The Devil. Will definitely go again!

Email Verified Barn of Torture was freakingly scary

I with my two cousins went to the 301 Devil’s Playground. The Barn of Torture was freakingly scary. The second one was the House of Hell and it was also equally terrifying. My little cousin even screamed once. The zombie Paint Ball Ride was fun too…had a great time shooting at zombies. Little bit more of ammo would have helped. Overall, it was an enjoyable visit. We will be back.

Terrific Scares

Amazing haunt with an upgrade in their haunts every year! My visit to the 301 Devil’s Playground was just awesome. They had two attractions and a Zombie Paintball Ride. The Barn of Torture was terrifically scary. The second one was the House of Hell and it was also equally terrifying. We kept screaming the entire time we were in the house. The zombie Paint Ball Ride was a nice fun as we get to shoot at the zombies. Overall, it was the best haunt I have ever been to and worth every penny spent. I will definitely be back.

Parking was really annoying

I am very sorry to say this but the parking facilities was really annoying. It was a long way back walk from the parking to the attraction. If parking is available at a different point they should arrange a ride from the parking to the attraction otherwise they are going to lose many visitors who will look for other attractions which will be more convenient.

Email Verified 3 horrifying attractions

Great place to take the family out for a haunted attraction experience. Loved all the 3 horrifying attractions....they are all scary and intense. The Barn of Torture was the scariest....I think it’s suited only for adults. All the actors and actress draped in creepy costumes delivered a fantastic show as they never missed an opportunity to scare us. Thanks to snacks counter outside the event area for topping up the energy level as we were exhausted after the show. Last but not the least, one of the best management staffs operating the show and very friendly in nature. Can’t wait to visit them soon.

A+ haunted experience

We had a fabulous time at this haunted place. We reached just before the scheduled time and queue wasn’t very long. Thanks to entertainers, as they kept us engaged to multiple fun activities. All the three attractions - Barn of Torture, House of Hell and Zombie Paintball Ride - were just amazing, especially the house of hell!! Full of scares underpinned by highly skilled actors and perfect composition of animatronics made us screamed a lot. The themed story was well supported by the stuffs inside the House of Hell and twists and turns for adequate encounters with monsters/zombies were incredible. Overall, A+ haunted experience and I would highly recommend this haunted place to any haunt lover!

Email Verified Never coming

This was definitely not worth the money or time we spent to reach here. None of us could complete the Barn of Torture and we were not given a refund. There was such a huge crowd on the black out night but the staff did not manage it well. There were too many gaps and mismanagement. We took the VIP pass but were last in the line. So most of the haunts we could witness before hand and see people scream. Never coming.

Email Verified House of Hell was damn scary

I’ve been to multiple haunt places but this has earned a significant respect in my list. At the very outset, all three attractions are very different and unique to explore and gain a multi-facet horror experience. I along with my girlfriend visited this place last weekend and we had a blast! We started with House of Hell, and it was damn scary. Tons of scares and skin peeling equipment’s were frightening in nature and we screamed, jumped and ran so often. At last, we went for Zombie Paintball ride to cool down our nerves and it was fun, just remember to shoot them on head. Certainly, one of the best Halloween experience I had with 301 Devil and looking forward to alike blast next year.

Some decent scares

One of the best haunted house I have been to this Halloween. The zombie shooting was lots of fun. My kids loved that. The ride in the army truck through the army ground taken over by Zombies was a fun experience. The sets of both houses were detailed and had lots of scary props and actors. My favourite was the Barn. The Barn of Torture also has some decent scares. No space in the haunted houses were wasted. Every part is occupied by some scares or actors in weird looking costumes. I recommend this place.

Great Attraction

This place was amazing!! The house and Barn were so scary and kept you on your toes the whole time and zombie paintball was so fun I went through 2 times!! This is a great haunt go and check it out! This place will not disappoint!!!

In Russia things are different: all of the beyond and mystical to us, as a rule, scary. Although reductions in Russian homes, not less. Where they can be found in Chelyabinsk?

"Witch's hole" on Pushkin street

Near cinema Pushkin one of the houses is popularly called a "witch's hole". According to legend it is the door to the underworld. One of the reasons that gave rise to these rumors, — nezamenyaemye the riser of one of the entrances of this house. People who buy apartments there, either move out after a while or start to hurt.

All of this could be blamed on mere coincidence, but we know that this house is built on the former Kazan-mother of God cemetery. Perhaps it was this fact affects the well-being of residents.

Especially impressionable claim to hear in the voices and see shadows. Such a "bad house" built in the cemetery, there are in Chelyabinsk on the street Zakharenko in the North-West. High-rise building is notorious for numerous suicides.

Ghosts in the house on Krasnoarmeyskaya

Not the first old house on the street red army strikes fear in its inhabitants. According to them, in a century old building still lives the Ghost of the owner of the mansion. In pre-revolutionary years, in Chelyabinsk there lived a merchant Larintsev (Lawrence). According to one version, his house was confiscated by the Bolsheviks, and later the merchant was killed. There are versions that unfortunate Ghost Larintsev returned to his home in Kiev, where periodically frightens the residents today.

Over the years, here was communal, then the military registration and enlistment office, the office of bailiff and the House of journalists. In recent years, the room rent of a commercial firm. Many of those who visited the building, noticed strange footsteps, creaking doors, tinkling crockery and similar tricks of the evil forces.

Most of the former tenants believe that the Ghost is him still kindly and protects the house. For example, once in a room the fireball flew, and for some time hung in the air. Witnesses to this were a few people. But she didn't hit and just flew away, leaving a memory of a mark in the wall. Rumor has it that the Ghost of the master of the house took away from the house trouble.

Theatre on the bones

Few know, but the Opera house Chelyabinsk built literally on the bones. In a time when Chelyabinsk was a fortress, a place which today is considered the center of the city was a suburb, and it was here they buried the dead people. During the construction of the Opera house, dug a lot of human remains.

According to rumors, most of them were reburied, but some remained lying in the ground. The builders complained that they were constantly interfered with his work. For example, at night they noticed the silhouettes or heard voices. When the theatre was fully built, its workers, too, began to complain about voices, visions and strange noises. In their assumptions, these are the souls of the disturbed dead.

The Elevator with the King of rat

The most mysterious and mystical attraction of Chelyabinsk is located in the city centre. It's an abandoned old grain Elevator. A few decades ago it was considered a major architectural landmark and the tallest building in the city.

To erect a building began in 1913, when after the construction of the TRANS-Siberian railroad Chelyabinsk became a point connecting the Eastern and Western part of Russia. From Siberia to Chelyabinsk is literally flooded cheap bread, needed the storage space.

Elevator for several decades served the residents of Chelyabinsk, and only in the late 1990-ies the building was completely abandoned. In ten years it turned into a sort of medieval castle with ghosts. According to the main urban legend about this place, in the dungeons of the Elevator lives of the vast size of the King-rat, which controls the city's rat population. However, based on this legend, and remains a mystery.

The real rats are staying for sure, but the mystical rodent so no one saw. However, the building is considered the most mystical object in the city, but also a place of pilgrimage tolkiyenistov and lovers of extreme tourism from all over Russia. Chelyabinsk Elevator even call the country's only large abandoned building in the heart of the cities.

The dark past of the building of the Legislative Assembly

Early on the building of Legislative Assembly of Chelyabinsk region on the street of Kirov, before the revolution, was a transit prison. These walls have seen, according to rumors, Stalin, and Chernyshevsky. Only in the early XX century part of the prison buildings were demolished for the construction of the state Bank.

They say with time the dark aura of the criminal world here is still occasionally makes itself felt. Some claim that at night in the legislative Assembly to hear the sound of shackles, raucous laughter and quiet speech.

Black history from Chelyabinsk realtors

Chelyabinsk realtors tell a true story about the poltergeist. For example, after selling one of the apartments in the house on the street 40 years of Victory, her new owners have complained that they are often worried about "barabashka". They heard strange noises in the night, which was forced to Wake up. In the mirror of the tenants noticed the shadows, too frightened and zastavlyaet in the other guests.

A bad reputation and uses one of the buildings on Komsomolsky Avenue. There are at least four known cases of suicide in recent years. The first tragedy occurred when building a house. According to rumors, the concrete slab fell and crushed one of the workers.

One realtor had several objects that "sin" is something mystical. He said:

There are apartments where nice to be, and is, repulsive. We sold just this "kopeck piece", and from there wanted to leave. It is not surprising that the apartment was not sold. Once I looked closer to what is in the room, and found on the windowsill of the old black and white photo with some of the funeral. We threw them out, the owner made repairs in the apartment, but still not buying for another five years. I always tell my clients that the apartment is necessary to buy not only the head but also the heart. It should be comfortable and relaxed.

But sometimes the apartments have a nice aura, but do the new owners unexpected presents. A few years ago, for example, a young family bought the apartment in "Khrushchev" in the centre of Chelyabinsk. During the repair they found immured in a wall box with vintage jewelry.

They say this house once lived security officers, and occasionally find new tenants confiscated once the values that do not have time to take the old ones home. Another family, also thanks to the renovation increased the living space for the whole room. They bought an apartment in a house near Revolution square. For one of the walls they were in for a surprise bricked up many years ago, small room for servants.

House-sized near Earth objects rarer than we thought

by National Optical Astronomy Observatory

House-sized near Earth objects rarer than we thought

In 2013 a small meteoroid, the size of a house, hurtled through Earth's atmosphere and exploded over the Russian city of Chelyabinsk. The explosion shattered windows, and more than a thousand people were treated for injuries from flying debris. How many similar-sized rocks have orbits that bring them close to Earth? A new study has answered that question using the Dark Energy Camera (DECam) on the Blanco telescope at the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory. The result lends new insights into the nature and origin of small meteoroids.

Near Earth Objects (NEOs) are asteroids or comets whose orbits bring them close to Earth's orbit. Their close approach makes them a potential Earth-impact hazard capable of causing widespread destruction.

While very large (10 kilometer-sized) impactors can induce mass extinction events like the event that led to the demise of the dinosaurs, much smaller impactors can also wreak havoc. The meteoroid that exploded in Chelyabinsk unleashed a powerful shock wave that destroyed buildings and blew people off their feet. Relatively petite at a 'mere' 17 meters in diameter, comparable to the size of a 6-story building, the impactor, when it exploded, released about ten times the energy of the Hiroshima atomic bomb.

A survey for NEOs being carried out with DECam on the 4-m Blanco telescope at the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory has now estimated the number of objects in near-Earth orbit that are similar in size to the Chelyabinsk impactor. Lori Allen, Director of the Kitt Peak National Observatory and the lead investigator on the study, explained, "There are around 3.5 million NEOs larger than 10 meters, a population ten times smaller than inferred in previous studies. About 90% of these NEOs are in the Chelyabinsk size range of 10-20 meters."

The study, to be published in the Astronomical Journal , is the first to derive, from a single observational data set with no external model assumptions, the size distribution of NEOs from 1 kilometer down to 10 meters. A similar result was obtained in an independent study that analyzed multiple data sets (Tricarico 2017).

While the surprising results do not alter the impact threat from house-sized NEOs, which is constrained by the observed rate of Chelyabinsk-like bolide events, they do lend new insights into the nature and origin of small NEOs.

David Trilling (Northern Arizona University), the first author of the study, explained how the study reconciled the surprisingly small number of house-sized NEOs with the observed rate of Chelyabinsk-like events: "If house-sized NEOs are responsible for Chelyabinsk-like events, our results seem to say that the average impact probability of a house-sized NEO is actually ten times greater than the average impact probability of a large NEO. That sounds strange, but it may be telling us something interesting about the dynamical history of NEOs."

Trilling speculates that the orbital distributions of large and small NEOs differ, with small NEOs concentrated in bands of collisional debris that are more likely to impact Earth. Bands of debris could be produced when larger NEOs fragment into swarms of smaller boulders. Testing this hypothesis is an interesting problem for the future.

Estimating the study's detection efficiency was critical to the result. Frank Valdes (NOAO), who developed the data reduction and analysis pipeline for the project, pointed out that "The best way to measure detection efficiency is by implanting synthetic NEOs into the data stream and then detecting the fake ones in the same way real NEOs are detected."

Well-matched to the study of small, faint NEOs, the large aperture of the 4-meter Blanco telescope and the wide field-of-view of DECam were also vital to the study. Describing the broad science reach of DECam, Allen remarked, "DECam has the power to revolutionize many fields of astronomy, from our understanding of dark matter and dark energy, to the search for distant planets in our Solar System and our understanding of the near-Earth environment."
