The Oceanis 38.1’s chined hull offers particularly surprising cruising comfort. Renting a sailboat depends on the size of the vessel and how long you’ll be renting the boat. For instance, an 80-feet long sailboat can be rented for up to $30,000 a week, while bigger sailboats up to 120-feet long could cost south of $60,000. Catamarans are even more expensive to rent.

Cost to Charter a Sailboat for a Week

A motorboat is the best option if you’re renting a yacht for a business event, a birthday celebration, or any other large gathering. It’s bigger than a sailing boat, with high-tech sound systems and other modern features.

They are usually stocked with water devices, including paddleboards, inflatables, and jet skis. They can achieve tremendous speeds, adding to the thrill of your sailing adventure. It goes without saying that a motorboat is luxurious.

Sailing Yachts

There are two seasons: peak and off-peak. Others refer to it as the high and low seasons. The off-peak season is often referred to as the lean season. Rates vary with season, regardless of what it’s named. Charter rates are typically higher during high or peak seasons as the weather is great for yachting. Therefore, this is the season when most people go on a short holiday.

Summer in the Mediterranean and winter in the Caribbean are examples of beautiful seasons. Charter prices are reduced during the off-peak, lean, or low season. Yacht owners are logically enticed to offer low charter prices given the limited demand. As stated, the cost of a boat varies according to the season. The cost of a Mediterranean yacht charter climbs in the summer and falls in the winter, but a Caribbean boat charter is higher in the winter and cheaper in the summer.

This small-sounding phrase refers to a large collection of equipment that includes anything from kayaks to high-powered yacht tenders. Some boats have zorbs, sea pools (a big netted frame that keeps marine life out of a specified swimming area), and slides that may be launched straight into the water from the top of the sailboat.

Advanced Provisioning Allowance (APA)

The APA is equal to 25-35 percent of the original price of the boat. This charge is usually paid before the boat is rented. During the charter, the skipper uses it as a spending account. By the conclusion of your stay, you’ll get a detailed account of costs, and any unused APA money will be returned to you in cash.

Don’t be startled if your costs during your charter surpass the cash in your APA account; it happens all the time - especially when you’re having a good time, right? You will be forced to recharge your APA account in this scenario.

Taxes and VAT are paid separately in most situations, if not all, whether you choose an All-Inclusive Charter plan or a Plus Expenses Charter package. Taxes are calculated differently depending on your charter destination.

Charterers can purchase cancellation and curtailment insurance, which is the same as traveler’s insurance. If the visitor cancels at the last minute or decides to decrease the charter time, this will assist the charterer in covering expenditures.

Documentation

Small Boat Rentals

Enjoy an easy afternoon sail aboard a stable J-24′, Soling 26′ or Capri 22’!  Please note: sailing experience is required in addition to passing our small boat sailing quiz in person on the day of your rental.

Known for its sweet sailing performance in nearly all conditions, the Catalina Capri 22′ has been winning over sailors since its introduction. The Capri 22 is more comfortable, safer at sea, and easier to maintain than other boats in its class. Its striking deck profile is flared across the stern and its wide cockpit curves are comfortable for crew both during and after sailing.

HOURLY:  $65/hour

DAILY: $260/day

CAPACITY: 6 people

Please note that reservations are only available for day sail rentals. All hourly rentals are done on a walk-in, first come, first served basis.

The J-24′ is one of the most popular one design racers in the world. Also a great daysailer, the J-24′ is maneuverable and responsive. With a spacious and workable deck and small cabin below, it is a top pick for sailing education. Additionally, it is equipped with an auxiliary electric motor for easy launching and docking. It is a very stable boat and able to handle challenging cruising conditions.

The Soling 26′ was designed as an Olympic class racer and is built for speed. Quick and responsive, the Soling handles well under most conditions and its simplified running rigging makes it even easier to sail. It lacks only the creature comforts of a cruising yacht and more than makes up for it with the thrill of a “go fast” afternoon sail. Features include a main traveler, hiking straps and a tiller extension.

What kind of experience do I need to take out a small sailboat? Do I need to take a test? You must have experience sailing keelboats. This can include ASA certification, sea time, or a combination of both. Additionally, you must pass our written small boat sailing quiz in office your first time sailing with us, and if it’s been more than a year since you last visited.

How do I make a reservation? For day sails, you can make a reservation online. All hourly rentals are made on a first come, first serve, in person basis.

Do you rent motorboats? We do not. We only rent sailboats to qualified sailors. For inexperienced sailors, we offer small boat lessons and ASA certification courses.

How do I purchase Frequent Sailing Hours? You can purchase Frequent Sailing Hours in person during business hours. Members get additional savings!

Rainbow 24 Sailboat Rental

No trip to the sailing capital of America would be complete without getting out on a sailboat. Our fleet of Rainbow 24s provides a safe and fun experience for those looking to have a relaxing time on the water. Feel free to bring lunch and turn it into a picnic as you pass by the sights with the wind carrying you along.

Rentals are available during our sailing season, from the beginning of April to the end of October.

Weekdays – $158 (+taxes and fees) for a full day or any portion of a day between 9 am – 4 pm.

Weekends & Holidays – $225 (+taxes and fees) for a half-day between 9 am – 12:00 pm OR 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm

*If you are a new customer, you are required to complete a 30-minute sailing assessment. The assessment cost $30 in addition to the rental fee.

Reservations

A reservation is needed to ensure that a sailboat is available when you want to go out. At least two adults are required on a rental boat, one of whom must be a qualified sailor. Up to 6 people are permitted on a rental boat; no children under 5 years of age are allowed. No pets are permitted.

A late fee of $75 will be charged per every half-hour overdue.

KeelBoat Club Rainbow Rentals

Our Rainbow 24 sloops have proven to be nimble, fast, and forgiving. Designed by Sparkman and Stephens specifically for Annapolis Sailing School, the boats are ready to please both novice and experienced sailors. The substantial fixed keel (1100 lbs), cuddy cabin design, and large cockpit combine to produce a boat that is stable, dry, and comfortable.

Qualified Renters

At least one person in the rental party needs to have an ASA 101 certification or its equivalent. New customers must complete a sailing competency evaluation with us prior to their first rental. Renters are required to rig and de-rig their boat. The Rainbows do not have engines, so sailors must be able to depart and dock under sail.

Sailing Area

Rentals are restricted to an area close enough to the school so that help can reach you quickly in an emergency situation. Boundaries, determined by management, are subject to change depending on weather and water conditions at the time of your rental. Please understand that going beyond these boundaries makes quick retrieval of the boats difficult in case of emergency. Late returns of boats due to venturing beyond the boundaries will result in late fees. If a renter goes outside the prescribed sailing area and needs to be retrieved, there will be a fee of $75 and the renter will be unable to rent with us in the future.

Sailing is entirely dependent upon wind and weather. We recommend that renters check marine.weather.gov three days before the rental date to see what the forecast is for that day. If small craft advisories or worse are in effect at the start of the rental, the rental may be postponed, canceled, or otherwise restricted at the discretion of the management. In that case, the rental can be re-booked at no additional cost. In low wind situations, you will need to plan your sail so that you can be back at the dock on time.

Cancellations

Rental reservations are charged at the time of booking. Rescheduling within three calendar days of the originally scheduled start of the reservation will result in a $50 rescheduling fee per occurrence. Cancellations made within two calendar days of the scheduled day of the reservation will receive no refund. Refunds are not available for lack of wind.

The boats are covered by insurance. Please inform management of any damage that occurred during the rental. The Lessee has no liability for repairs. However, Annapolis Sailing School is not responsible for personal injury or damage to other boats. You should check your own insurance coverage before sailing.

• Children on board must be at least 5 years old
• No alcohol allowed on boats
• No pets allowed on boats
• No swimming off the boats allowed
• No anchoring
• Boats are not permitted to dock at other marinas or facilities other than Annapolis Sailing School

Sailboat Rentals

For experienced sailors, Community Boating offers two-hour keelboat rentals to non-members. We offer one type of sailboat for rent: 

Our sailing area covers the Charles River Basin, stretching between the Mass Ave bridge and the Longfellow bridge. Rentals are conducted on a first-come basis during rental hours. All rentals must return to the dock 30 minutes before sunset. Non-member sailboat rentals are suspended on red flag (high wind) days.

All rentals must be off the water 30 minutes before sunset.

*Rentals will be closed on Wednesday July 3rd and on Thursday July 4th

Yes. Prior to the rental the skipper of the boat will be briefly interviewed by the dockmaster on duty. Rental approval is at the dockmaster’s discretion.

Minimum rental age is 18.

Crew may be under 18 pending parent or guardian approval.

We offer FREE day use lockers on our dock. You can either bring your own lock or purchase a $10  keyed lock from our front desk.

Lifejackets are provided and must be worn at all times.

Damage waivers are available for purchase, covering any accidental damage, with the exception of gross negligence, recklessness, or intentional acts.

No rentals are available on July 3rd or 4th.

No exceptions to boat capacity will be made under any circumstances.  However you may rotate people out on the dock and take turns.

Our dockmaster-on-duty may set additional restrictions for watercraft based on the weather conditions, powerboat boat traffic, special events, incidents, etc. This may include a restricted paddling area or a suspension of rentals.

The one sport that Kona is most famous for would probably be big game fishing. Kona has become a magnet for first-timers wishing to try their hand at catching the big one.

Dramatic video shows whale capsizing boat off New Hampshire

Two boaters escaped with their lives off New Hampshire after a whale breached and capsized their vessel in a dramatic spectacle that was captured on video, the Coast Guard said Tuesday.

The boaters, who were essentially catapulted into the Atlantic Ocean when the giant mammal breached and struck the back of the 23-foot vessel, were rescued by good Samaritans, the Coast Guard said in a series of posts on X .

The incident occurred near Odiorne Point State Park in Rye, New Hampshire, it said.

Video shows the whale breaching the water and striking the rear of the boat. At least one of the boaters is seen plunging into the water.

Colin Yager, who recorded he video, told NBC News on Tuesday that after the whale breached, he and his brother picked up the boaters.

No injuries were reported, according to the Coast Guard.

“We are grateful to the good samaritans for taking such quick action to rescue these two individuals. Bravo Zulu!” it said.

The Coast Guard crew from Station Portsmouth reported the whale appeared to be uninjured, the agency said. The boat was salvaged, it added.
