The town of Midnight Falls is once again filled with monsters, zombies, chainsaw-wielding maniacs and hungry cannibals who are terrorizing visitors at the long-running Los Angeles Haunted Hayride .

“This is pretty much a tradition for us. We already got chased by the crazy chainsaw guy and got lost in the hillbilly house. It’s fun, it’s like a party atmosphere here,” said North Hollywood resident Josh Avanessian, as he exited one or the haunts at the annual event.

The Hayride, which is marking its 15th anniversary this year, opened in late September and runs through Oct. 31 at Griffith Park. It’s a Halloween celebration made up of a trio of mazes that include a walk through a morbid mortuary, a tense stroll through a horrifying neighborhood where there are more tricks than treats and a new haunt that takes people into the home of cannibals.

The mazes are located at the edge of the fictional town of Midnight Falls where people can take pictures in front of Halloween props or hang out by the main stage and listen to live music from The Monte Revolta Show, a horror-themed musical and comedy revue. There are standalone attractions and, of course, the main event, the hayride through the dark wilderness.

“This year, it’s going to be absolutely epic,” said Victor Mathieu, general manager for the Haunted Hayride. “Overall, across the board, this event has grown and improved drastically. We’re extremely exited about this season.”

Some of the new elements include changes to the Hayride, which is a little bit scarier with newly added horror scenes and more creepy characters, but it’s also a lot more comfortable. In previous years, people had to sit on a bed of hay spread around the floor of the wagon. Now the wagons are new and include seating in the form of square piles of hay lined along the sides of the wagon.

“Last year, you had to lay down on the wagon, now it’s much better and it was scarier than last year, too, because they had more people coming at you,” said Sun Valley resident Rene Zapien, who was at the Hayride with his wife and two daughters.

While his youngest, four-year-old Trinity, handled the ride pretty well, his 11-year-old daughter Dorothy screamed a few times when creatures popped out at her during the ride.

“Yeah they got me a lot of times. It was good, besides the fact that they really scared me,” she said.

Also new this year is Hellbilly Halloween, a walk-thru haunt that focuses on a cannibalistic family who live in a run-down home that’s filled with bodies, blood and terror. It’s a pretty large haunt that includes various rooms, a lot of turns and heavy fog that can confuse people as they try to find the exit. So, expect to spend some time in this house of horrors.

“It was pretty scary, I was sweating  and I was like ‘When is this going to end?’ I was looking for the end because it was a little too long for me, but it was fun,” said Monrovia resident Sofia Lauren as she exited Hellbilly Halloween.

People can also fight back against the zombies in a new attraction dubbed Zombie Splat. It’s similar to a carnival shooting game, but here people are using rapid-fire guns to shoot live actors who are portraying zombies with gelly balls, which are like paint balls, but much softer.

“That was really fun. It kind of gets out your aggressions. I think this may be the only place where you get to fight back against the zombies rather than them sneaking up on you,” said Torrance resident Ryan Wade as he excited Zombie Splat.

Los Angeles Haunted Hayride

Time Out says

This haunted Griffith Park hayride once again returns to the mid-’80s fictitious town of Midnight Falls, which borrows a little bit of the road culture of Sons of Anarchy and the isolation of Twin Peaks .

The Old Zoo tradition, which has been running for 15 years now, centers on a relatively lengthy hayride, which runs on select nights from September 22 to October 31. The premise: A witch has summoned creatures that’ve hidden themselves among Halloween decorations in the town’s foothills. This year’s event promises new wagons (with new seating options), updated effects and new horror scenes.

The event’s various other attractions will be centered around the jack-o’-lantern–filled Midnight Falls Town Square, with a creaky old funeral parlor set up in the Midnight Mortuary haunted house as well axe throwing, water balloon-based paintball and the Hellbilly Halloween maze.

Can I wear a costume?

No. Costumes, facepaint and props are not allowed.

How much is parking at the Haunted Hayride?

Parking is free but limited in the trio of nearby lots (Merry-Go-Round lots 1, 2 and 3). On Fridays, Saturdays and on Halloween, you can take advantage of a shuttle from the northwest corner of the  much larger L.A. Zoo parking lot.

The park’s grounds are once again transformed into Midnight Falls, an eerie village where it's always Halloween. This year’s haunt features new effects and horror scenes, a new maze titled Hellbilly Halloween and Zombie Splat - A GellyBall Experience (a paintball-like experience with less impact). The experience may be too intense for those 12 and younger.

The Haunted Hayride Returns to Griffith Park!

los angeles haunted hayride pregnant

Photo courtesy of Los Angeles Haunted Hayride.

The Haunted Hayride is back! One of LA’s most iconic Halloween attractions, the Haunted Hayride returns to Griffith Park after a 2020 detour to San Dimas, where it was an in-vehicle, drive-through experience.

Beginning September 24 and continuing on select nights through October 31, the 2021 Los Angeles Haunted Hayride is a return to form — on foot– with traditional hayrides, mazes, trick or treating, and more.

The 2021 edition of the Haunted Hayride features a visit to Midnight Falls, where it’s eternally 1985 and always Halloween. Creepy members of the Midnight Falls community wander around the town square, both interacting with guests and engaging in their day-to-day activities.

Meanwhile, in the foothills of Midnight Falls, a horrifying portal spews out hideous creatures and the witch of the woods has summoned underworld spirits to cross over, assimilate, and exact revenge on the townspeople who drove her away. Will you be brave enough to embark on the hayride?

In addition, ghouls try to scare you as you trick or treat at the homes of Midnight Falls. Be careful during open house at the Midnight Mortuary: you may become the mortuary’s latest customer. Get creeped out at the Dead End Diner.

Pre-sale launches today, August 18. If you sign up for updates, you’ll receive a link on August 25 that allows you $10 off the regular ticket price (from $34.99 to $24.99). General ticket sales begin at noon on September 8, and early-bird discounts will be offered until then. Click here for more information.

Los Angeles Haunted Hayride Celebrates 15 Years With Brand-New Features and Attractions!

' src=

Thirteenth Floor Entertainment Group , the world’s largest Halloween-themed entertainment company, has resurrected their signature Los Angeles event, “ Los Angeles Haunted Hayride ,” for a return to Griffith Park in Los Angeles this Halloween season!

From now through October 31 , tickets are on-sale now at losangeleshauntedhayride.com , with prices starting at $29.99 on select nights.

Welcome to the Midnight Falls annual Hayride, which offers a scenic tour of the majestic wilderness that features destinations typically unseen by visitors. This exciting excursion runs continuously during the Midnight Falls Halloween Festival for tourists to enjoy the wondrous beauty of this beloved town. Guests must be alert, as this is the time of year when the leaves start to turn and the veil between the living and the dead is at its thinnest, allowing the Witch of the Woods who has cast her spell to summon the spirits of the Underworld.

Celebrating the Haunted Hayride’s 15th anniversary, Thirteenth Floor is significantly updating the experience to keep longtime fans on their toes this Halloween season. New additions to this year’s show include brand-new wagons with seating options, updated effects, several new horror scenes, all-new add-on experiences, and a new maze titled Hellbilly Halloween .

“We listened to your feedback, and are proud to announce that the Haunted Hayride is getting a significant refresh in 2023,” said Chris Stafford, CEO & Founding Partner of Thirteenth Floor Entertainment Group. “I’m really excited to announce that we have added all new wagons for the Hayride experience which feature seating for the first time. This is something our guests have been requesting each year, and we’re thrilled to make it happen. We have a lot of new and exciting updates and we look forward to welcoming you all back to Midnight Falls!”

In addition to the Hayride, guests can immerse themselves in the cursed community of Midnight Falls and enjoy a variety of Halloween-themed activities, attractions, concessions and on-site food trucks. This year’s Los Angeles Haunted Hayride side attractions will feature:

● NEW MAZE: Hellbilly Halloween: Venture deep into the backwoods of Midnight Falls where a long rumored cannibalistic family has taken in the spirit of Halloween by dishing out diabolical tricks filled with horrifying treats.

● NEW – Midnight Falls Axe Throwing: With the curse of the witch plaguing the city of Midnight Falls, learn to protect yourself from the less-than-friendly ghouls. The Axeperts at Midnight Falls will train you up and for only $5 you can try your hand at hitting the bullseye 5 times.

● NEW – Zombie Splat – A GellyBall Experience: Keep the army of the undead at bay and protect Midnight Falls! Gellyball is completely safe, as it’s much smaller than a traditional paintball and uses a colored water balloon, allowing for a much lighter impact and no permanent mess. Guests will be required to wear protective eyewear, provided at no extra charge, and will be aiming at live actor zombies in a zombie apocalypse simulator.

● The Monte Revolta Show: Get ready for the ultimate Theatrical Macabre Experience from beyond the grave. It’s Monte Revolta… the undead irreverent lounge singer who is bringing the dead back to Rock. Join Monte, Rotly & Ms. Muerte as they exhume an ultra shocking musical, comedy revue.

● The Town Square of Midnight Falls: The central hub of festivities where guests walk between attractions or hang out to soak in the fear as townsfolk roam the streets and interact with outsiders.

● Midnight Mortuary: Scorched Earth: Once a beacon of rest and peace, the mortuary has ignited its darkest chambers to show guests a different kind of afterlife. Step into the heat as you’re invited for a rare open house experience, guiding you through the ashen halls where spirits are not set free but forever smoldering in the shadows. The crematorium’s roaring flames are hungry, and those who stray from their group may just find out how it feels to the focus of its insatiable appetite.

● Trick or Treat: Local homes inside Midnight Falls spring to life, driven by the spirit of Halloween, but it is soon discovered that the ghoulish residents have far more tricks on their mind than treats. The wondrous magic of a traditional neighborhood Halloween celebration is turned upside down as terrors stalk the streets in Trick-or-Treat. Fans of R.L. Stine, take note: Goosebumps is taking over the maze on the weekend of Friday the 13th!

Horrifying Christmas characters will haunt all those who enter, trading Christmas cheers for Christmas fears. In addition to the main haunted maze attraction, guests will enjoy themed photo ops, a holiday light show, and holiday drinks at Torment Tavern (alcoholic and non-alcoholic options available). For those who want to take the terror one step further, guests will be able to add on additional experiences: Phobia: Sensory Overload, a Haunted Selfie Museum, Hades Zombie Simulation, Mini Escape Rooms, the Neon Coffin Secret Bar (21+), and the special “Naughty” or “Nice” Alternate Endings, only available at Krampus.

This holiday season, House of Torment has partnered with Austin Pets Alive!, a local pet shelter that rescues animals from high-risk situations and finds them loving homes. “Animals only ask to be loved unconditionally & in return give unconditional love.” General Manager Michael Faust states, “And as much as we like to give theCharacters we create a home, it’s extremely important to us that pets have a home too. That is why House of Torment wanted to team up with Austin Pets Alive!, which is home grown just like House of Torment. Adopting a pet doesn’t have to be scary, but them not finding a home is.” During Krampus, guests who bring in a donation of new, unopened pet food and/or pet supplies will receive a 20% discount towards merchandise on-site (*exclusions apply).
