Lone Star 13 by Chrysler?

Breaking wind

So I picked one of these up for a song, all the rigging is good, the sails look to be brand new! and a good trailor to boot. I thought that the kids and I could use this on the little local in the back yard when we aren't out on the Mac. Anyone have any experience with these? judging from the masthead rig, large sails and the bilgeboards I am guessing it should be a quick little thing?

no chute but I bet I can make one!  

same function/purpose but bilgeboards are mounted closer to the sides, sometimes splayed so when heeling they are vertical in the water. Not sure how close to the sides they have to be before they become bilgeboards, too far and they become leeboards. (Once won dinner for two because I knew the difference!) Ken.  

LS 13 Learned how to sail on #311 on White Rock Lake in Dallas back in 69. Sailed that boat for 6 years and have my name on the nationals trophy 3 times. Let the little ones drive and put the big guy in front to keep the transom out of the water. Repack the bilgeboard handles every year and they will still leak, you just get used to bailing. If there is not already foam under the seats ,put some in as this will allow the boat to float after you flip it. It will take a spinaker and they are alot of fun and easy to control. If you want to get the most out of the jib you will need to add some short jibcar tracks.  

thanks guys we took it out last night! Carl you are right about the bilgeboards they leak a little, 2 hours and not enough water to speak of (barely to the bottom of the wood floor) the jib could definately use a track and I already ordered the stuff from sailrite to make a chute! this little thing is pretty quick even in light air. Man if this boat was a little bit smaller I would use it for a dinghy on the Mac. What a great find this has been, and my kids like it too. My oldest is already collecting milk jugs so he can make a race track!

O'Day Widgeon or Chrysler Pirateer

Looking to purchase a small, trailerable, easy to rig and handle, sailboat for my son and I to learn and get experience on. Both of these seem like good options but just wanting some other opinions and any pros and cons to each. Which would you choose??  

Generations of junior sailors have learned on Widgeons. But they're pretty small for an adult along with a kid, at 12'. The Pirateer i haven't sailed but looking at it: Chrysler Sailing Association Website It's bigger, more freeboard, and likely faster. Others may know more, but that's my desktop opinion.

So do they seem like we would get the same kind of experience on either boat? I'm asking because I have heard that Widgeons sail/rig/whatever very similar to a regular bigger boat. Since I don't really know what that means (or what to look for in a beginning boat) all I can really do is read other's reviews. Our goal is to eventually get something larger that we can take out for whole weekends or even a week or two. We're not looking to race or anything. Well, I'm not. My 14 year old might beg to differ. Lol. Thanks y'all!!  

My first sailboat was a Chrysler Pirateer. It was a fun, light weight, fast sailboat. A good first boat for learning because it had a main and a jib. It can hold two adults. Has a dagger board, so with out weighted keel put hiking staps to use. But could comfortably steer and work the main sheet while hiking. I lived in a lake at the time so never towed it, but I use to push and pull it down to the lake on its trailer by myself. If I lived near a lake again and would buy another one in a heart beat.  

I learned on an O'Day Widgeon and treasure those days even now (I'm 52). The origional boat still in my garage as I have moved up nautically but I would sell it to the right owner for the right price. Still looking? I live outside Boston.  

could go over to odayowners.com for some info on the widgeon. I have a 19 O'Day. I enjoy it and it is not very hard to rig at all. I would imagine a 12 footer would be that much easier. maybe you could hold out for something a little bigger. the 19 is a good boat for starters, and it has a small shoal keel on it with drop down center board. weighs a bit more. close to 2000 lbs but that also makes it more like sailing a larger boat. has a smal cabin as well. you can usually find them for sale around 2k or less.  

I'd lean toward the Widgeon for two reasons: 1) According to sailboatdata.com, they have the same sail area and LWL. However, the Widgeon is lighter, so the SA/d is 45.2 for Widgeon and 22.9 for Pirateer. Theoretically, the Widgeon will be livelier and faster, which are two attributes that are important to teenage boys. 2) The Widgeon has some storage space. Then I would factor in how much work the available boats need. It you need to do work to make a boat sailable, don't buy it. Be honest with yourself: does your 14-year-old really want to learn to sail or are you projecting your wishes onto him? Don't be surprised if he shows little interest in sailing; most 14-year-olds would consider sailing to be boring. That may change your selection criteria.

This is a used boat purchased in 2008. It has the usual dings and scratches with a boat this old. she is seaworthy and can be sailed as soon as purchased. Great boat to single hand or with up to 4 people. she has 2 brand new sails from Super Sail Makers and the old original main is still usable. The trailer recently made a trip to Cape Cod, the wheels are good and bearing were packed. Trailer will need paint and I am rerigging with new lights for new owner. She is located in Schaumburg Illinois and it is Local pickup as I have sold my truck. I have had awesome experiences with this boat and I am moving up to a 24 footer. This is a 15' Chrysler Mutineer sailboat in very good shape. I sailed it today and it handled great. It comes with a Dilly trailer in very good shape (tires hold air, lights work) and most useful of all a 2hp Suzuki Outboard. This makes all the difference for tasks like raising the sail and coming back to shore. Boat is probably circa 1980's and shows some wear and tear but not terrible. Really very good shape for it's age. The boat is complete comes with a mainsail and furling jib both in very good shape. There is also a larger Genoa with a couple of small tears. The Mutineer is basically a shorter version of the Bucaneer. Both boats have been made by a variety of manufacturers and are still in production today. Offered for your consideration is this 1980 18’ Chrysler Buccaneer sailboat. I have the Certificate of Title to the boat, issued in Pennsylvania 9/30/2009. Since that time it has been in the water exactly twice, both times at Marsh Creek Lake in Lionville (Exton) PA. The Hull Identification Number is CBC63159M80E. The boat has been sitting unused and stored outside for the past five years and deserves a new home. Needless to say, since the boat has been stored outside, she will need a thorough cleaning and detail. You’ll probably want to consider painting the hull. The mast, stays, and hardware are all intact. There is a very old fiberglass repair at the bow (see photo). I have at least one sail (no rips or tears but it is dirty) and a spinnaker. The LS-16 is a 16-foot daysailer made by the Chrysler Boat Co. In case you are interested, the LS stands for Lone Star, which was a boatbuilder in Texas that was bought by Chrysler.The LS-16 has a roomy open hull with seats set down from the gunwale, but of course for a lot of sailing people will be sitting on the gunwale. It has 2 centerboards (if that is possible), and you either leave both down or use only the leeward one. The boat is sloop rigged, with a main and a jib. It sails pretty will with only the main, and in high winds the main can be roller reefed, which turns the boat into a pussycat.Best sailing is with both sails and 2 or 3 people. You need one crewmember to handle the jib sheets, and the 3rd person just serves as ballast. Of course all crew members also serve to keep spray off the skipper. In light breezes you can take 4 people. This LS-16 is an experienced boat. It was built in 1969 and I bought it in 1975. It is an older boat and has seen a lot of sailing, but it still has some sailing left. I've had it on various Wisconsin lakes, including the Madison lakes and Green Lake, also Lake Michigan, and once we took it down to Florida and sailed on the Gulf of Mexico. The boat has had some wood rot problems, but I have repaired those. Of course all of the structural strength of the hull is fiberglass, and that is in good condition. The sails also have had some wear which has been repaired. The trailer is a fairly heavy tilt-bed. The bearings are good and the tires are fair. There is a spare wheel. If you want something that's a bit more than a 1 or 2 person catboat in which everybody gets wet, and for an affordable price, then this boat may be for you.I have included photos from sailing over the years, and also pix of the original LS-16 brochure and spec sheet. I bought this in Michigan last year with the 10 hp chysler with electric start...I brought it home and cleaned the exterior as it sat for many years...the motor and sails are in excellant condition and where alway stored inside . The interior needs cleaning and paint on the trailer and as all sailboats a good once over...the motor is guaranteed to run smoothly and I also put brand new tires and rims on with a spare if you plan on hauling it a long way (also greese bearings)needs lights but will install before you pick it up...possibly could meet you part way or deliver for fee? I had a fixed keel sailboat and hated the fact that I was stuck paying launch, dockage and storage fees and will never buy another boat I cant store and launch myself ....The draft is a little over a foot with this swing keel that makes it perfect for just about any launch at any lake. I recently became a grampa,my career is changing and Im looking to buy a house...so I have no time to sail this year and more then likely for many summers to come...Ill buy it back in 3 or 4 years from you if you decide to sell it... as it to me is the perfect boat. You will save the price of this boat in 1 year what you would pay in storage ,dockage and lift fees...My loss is your gain... more pictures to follow:

1978 O'Day 25   This well-maintained O'Day 25 has a Chrysler 9.9 1978 long shaft electric start motor. The bottom has an epoxy barrier coat and VC17 bottom paint. The topsides of the hull appear to be in very good condition, with no abrasions observed. The decks appear to have good structural integrity. No water saturation or delamination. The bright work needs attention. There are two port hole trim rings, that are broken, but do not affect the integrity of the port. This boat has Hood roller furling. O-Sea-D is a great trailerable boat for those longer vacation getaways when you don't have time to take it by water to that far away destination. Just add the trailer and you'll be good to go!

Amadeus Description

Built by the famous Dynamique Yachts shipyard, and having undergone a total refit in 2018, S/Y Amadeus was designed to please the most demanding of yachtsmen. Built for smooth sailing, this elegant cutter rigged sloop has a sleek hull design, comfortably reaching top speeds of 12 knots and ensuring excellent sailing performance. S/Y Amadeus has just undergone this past winter (2018) a major refit such as total repaint top to bottom, new rigging (BSI Denmark), Novourania with new Evinrude 75hp outboard, Splash pool, new Bimini/Sprayhood/Awnings, new exterior fabrics and many other enhancements. In 2016 new “North Sails” were placed onboard. The yacht is maintained in excellent condition with a five-star crew year round. Her generous uncluttered teak deck offers plenty of space for sunbathing. The spacious and unique outdoor saloon has two tables seating upto 12 guests and is a perfect setting for outdoor dining and entertainment. Thanks to a special canopy and roll-up windows, the deck saloon has the added attraction that it can be fully enclosed, making it ideal for all weather conditions. Her forward area includes a splash pool and sun bathing area which can also be shaded with a removable awning. From the cockpit, a stairway leads to the light-filled spacious saloon offering ample seating, ideal for relaxing or enjoying a drink from the bar, and offers a formal dining area. This area also includes a LCD TV, entertainment center, ipod dock station, playstation, and is ideal for indoor activities. She can accommodate 10-12 guests in one full width master stateroom, two double bedded cabins each having one extra single bed and two twin bedded cabins which can be easily converted to double beds (upon request), thus, making her the only 5 double bedded sailboat in the Greek market. She also has a nice selection of toys which include water ski (adult and children), tubes, inflatable canoes, wakeboard, fishing rod and snorkeling gear.

CAPTAIN - Harry Fotopoulos Captain Harry is a graduate of the Merchant Marine Academy and holds a Captain Class A’ Diploma. He also holds a Canadian Commercial Pilot license class B, sailing and speedboat license. He has over 15 years of experience onboard many types of Charter Yachts. He holds Certificates in GMDSS, Fire Fighting & First Aid, Personal Safety, Life Saving, and Ship Security. He has a great knowledge of the Greek islands and will navigate guests to remarkable destinations. During his one season on board he showed great leadership skills and received positive feedback from all guests. He is calm yet very outgoing and speaks very good English. DECKHAND - Konstantinos Santas CHIEF STEWARDESS - Mirella Davint Mirella has 8+ years of experience as a stewardess onboard charter and private yachts. She has a very pleasant personality and she aims to accommodate her guests to the fullest. Comments received from previous guests are memorable. This will be Mirella’s eighth season onboard. Mirella speaks English and she is 38 years old. ENGINEER - Stelios Mandos Stelios holds an Engineer Class B’ Diploma from the Greek Merchant Marine Academy as well as a Sailor’s License. He has over 15 years of experience onboard Ocean-Going Vessels and Charter Yachts. His hobbies include spearfishing and sailing. He speaks good English. Stelios is 45 years old, married with two children. CHEF - Thanasis Kiritsis Thanasis is 39 years old and has worked as a chef for more than 20 years in numerous hotels restaurants, yachts and resorts including owning his own pastry shop / bakery for 5 years. Thanasis looks forward to welcoming his guests on board and introducing them to his culinary world. He speaks good English and Greek. He is a young chef full of energy, skills and passion towards his job. We are confident that he will serve his guests unforgettable flavors. ASSISTANT STEWARDESS - Anastasia Yurash Anastasia is 31 years old and has been in the yachting industry since 2021. Her working experience includes 7 years as a housekeeper and assistant stewardess. Anastasia speaks very good English. One of Anastasia’s strongest attributes is her appetite for work. She is also very sociable, welcoming and looks forward to having guests on board S/Y Amadeus. Her hobbies include Latin dancing, snowboard and yoga.

A General Description of Sailing Yacht AMADEUS

AMADEUS was previously registered as project/yacht name Amadeus 1er. This 33 metre (109 ft) luxury yacht was built by Dynamique Yachts in 1991. Sailing Yacht AMADEUS is a well proportioned superyacht. The yacht is a modern sloop with a cutter rig. The naval architecture office whom authored the design work on this ship was Philippe Briand. Luxury yacht AMADEUS is a quality yacht that is able to accommodate as many as 12 guests on board and has a total of 5 crew members.

Sailing yacht AMADEUS was built by the famous Dynamique Yachts shipyard .The yacht features superb sailing characteristics which are complimented by her spacious interior and abundant deck space. Sailing sloop AMADEUS can accommodate 10 passengers in five cabins. With one large master stateroom and four additional cabins which are all air conditioned and have en suite bathrooms. She also has two separate salons and a full dining room. The aft deck is fully covered with seating. The fore deck has an unique pool on deck and swimming in the sea is made accessible by a large swim aft platform.

The Construction & Naval Architecture relating to Luxury Yacht AMADEUS

Philippe Briand was the naval architect firm involved in the formal nautical design work for AMADEUS. Also the company Philippe Briand skillfully collaborated on this undertaking. In 1991 she was actually launched to triumph in Marans and following sea trials and final completion was afterwards passed on to the yacht owner. Dynamique Yachts completed their new build sailing yacht in France. A reasonable proportion is brought about with a maximum beam (width) of 7.5 metres / 24.6 feet. With a 3.6m (11.8ft) draught (maximum depth) she is reasonably deep. The material composite was used in the building of the hull of the sailing yacht. Her superstructure above deck is built with the use of composite. Over the deck of AMADEUS she is 32.7 (107.3 ft) in length. In 2004 extra refitting and modernisation was also finished.

Engines & Speed For S/Y AMADEUS:

She is driven by twin screw propellers. The main engine of the ship gives 375 horse power (or 276 kilowatts). She is equiped with 2 engines. The combined thrust for the boat is therefore 750 HP / 552 KW.

Bestowing bedding for a maximum of 12 yacht guests sleeping aboard, the AMADEUS accommodates them in style. Normally the vessel requires approximately 5 professional crewmembers to run.

Her master cabin features a walk around king bed, desk/vanity, and en-suite bathroom. Additionally, there are two guest cabins each with a queen bed convertible to two twins, and two guest cabins each with a queen bed and twin bed. Each guest cabin has an en-suite.

Her main salon has a spacious, contoured conversational area, along with a large, flatscreen T.V. The aft deck features al fresco dining with Bimini top. Up on deck there are sun pads and a splash pool for you and your guests to enjoy.

Watersports offered include a 15 foot tender with 75hp engine, water skis for adults and children, tube, wakeboard, kayak, fishing gear, snorkeling gear, and rendezvous diving.

Sailing yacht AMADEUS is a stunning 110 ft yacht available for charter in Greece. With a clean, spacious teak deck and a unique outdoor saloon that can seat up to 12 guests across two tables, it’s the perfect place for outdoor dining and entertainment. The deck saloon can also be enclosed with a special canopy and roll-up windows, making it suitable for use in all weather conditions. At the front of the boat, there’s a splash pool and sunbathing area with a removable awning for shade.

Inside the boat, a staircase from the cockpit leads to a well-lit and roomy saloon area with plenty of seating, including a formal dining area, bar, LCD TV, entertainment center, iPod dock station, and Playstation. Sailing Yacht AMADEUS can accommodate 10-12 guests in five large cabins, including a full-width master stateroom and two double cabins, each with an extra single bed. The two twin cabins can also be converted to doubles upon request, making her the only sailboat on the Greek market with five double beds.

To add to the fun, sailing yacht AMADEUS also comes with a range of water toys, including adult and children’s water skis, tubes, inflatable canoes, wakeboard, fishing rod, and snorkeling gear. She was built by Dynamique Yachts in 1996 and underwent a refit in 2014/2018.

ACCOMMODATION

Accomodation is offered for 10 -12 guests in 5 spacious cabins: Master cabin forward features a double bed, vanity unit and generous storage facilities, as well as audio/visual entertainment. The en-suite includess a large bath tub, shower and separate WC. Two identical double cabins with additional single bunks situated forward. Two identical double cabins situated aft which can be convertible to twins. (Total 5 double beds) All cabins with en suite facilities and audio/visual entertainment.

A professional crew of 5-6 members are accommodated in separate quarters.

Charter the AMADEUS

AMADEUS is a 110-foot sailing yacht that can accommodate ten to twelve passengers in five staterooms as follows: a spacious Owner’s stateroom with a double bed, a vanity and an entertainment unit including TV, DVD and music system; two cabins with a double bed and an additional single bed; two cabins with two twin beds each. All staterooms have en suite bathrooms, a TV, DVD and CD player. There are two separate salons onboard as well as a full dining room. The aft deck is fully covered and has seating for all guests to dine in the open air. Forward of the cockpit is a lovely cushioned area for sunning and an unusual pool is found in the fore of the yacht. Swimming in the sea is made accessible by the large swim aft platform.
