Just imagine yourself….

It’s night in the Maldives, and your yacht’s underwater lights have turned the sea a glowing blue. In the darkness you can hear a pod of dolphins squeaking and breathing heavily through their blowholes as they hunt fish around the yacht. You’re on deck drinking champagne and playing cards under the stars when one of your friends decides to swim with the dolphins. You soon hear him splashing about and dive in to join him, the water soft on your skin in the warm night air.

On the island nearby, there’s a barefoot bar serving cocktails in coconuts and crab racing going on under the waving palms. Soon you’ll go to bed, for tomorrow you’re off to another island far out in the Indian Ocean, to dive and snorkel and lie on deckchairs on the sands.

Or perhaps this is more your style…

In the New Zealand fjord lands, your superyacht edges close to a waterfall running off a glacier, and the air is suddenly a haze of fine cold spray and rainbows. The kids are playing in the water, their excited squeals bouncing off the cliffs. The captain then moves the yacht back down through the fjord, through a silent land of quiet snow capped mountains, mists and deep forest. Emerging out of the fjords into the open ocean you see colonies of sea lions floating on their backs, looking like they’re resting in giant armchairs in the sea. Off to the starboard side, the fin of an orca breaks the surface, tall and sleek and ominous. The water is like glass, the yacht’s reflection moving through the ripples as the boat heads further south, or west, across the Strait to the reefs and stunning archipelagos of Australia.

Looking for a Caribbean adventure? What about…

In St Barths, fireworks light up the sky to celebrate the New Year- hundreds of yachts across the bay sound their horns, a sound of haunting beauty, welcoming in another year. The next day, the captain weighs anchor at dawn and you wake up hours later floating through the lush peaks of sunken volcanoes. You dive off the swim platform into deep cool water shot with light, and snorkel over colourful reefs to a nearby beach, blinding white sands against sapphire sea.

The crew set up a luxury beach barbeque for you, a cow from a local village looks mournfully on. That night you’ll take the tender in to a sailor’s bar, where a reggae band plays, the jerk chicken is frying and the spiced rum flows freely. You dance on the soft sand in bare feet, the Caribbean Sea shining in the moonlight.

Or, finally, how about a visit to the superyacht mecca, the French Riviera?

Your yacht approaches the towering cliffs of Monaco, and you can hear the whine of the Grand Prix cars rise over the grand casinos and palaces of Monte Carlo. Just down the coast is the Cannes Film Festival, where you see celebrities walk the red carpet and directors strut about in tuxedos with white scarves draped artfully around their necks. You cruise slowly to Saint Tropez, where models and princes shower champagne in glamorous clubs, and beautiful sailboats race across the bay. When you’ve had enough of glamour and glitz, you explore the secluded bays and deep pine forests, the ancient fortress towns and cobbled streets. You walk along palm lined promenades with their grand art deco hotels and sail around the Cap d’Antibes, where immense villas look out across the bay of Angels and towards the snow-capped Alps.

Frequently asked questions

How long can i charter a yacht for.

Charters can be set for any duration under or over a week. We do offer day charters as well on a select number of yachts.

Can I select which day of the week the charter will start?

Yes, charter schedules are often very flexible and can choose any day of the week to depart. However, rates do fluctuate depending on the season. High season rates apply to the most popular charter periods, i.e. July/August and Christmas/New Year, and are also normally applicable to all major events. Low season rates apply to all other periods unless otherwise stipulated.

How do I calculate the charter rate?

Charters over seven days are calculated pro-rata against the weekly rate divided by seven and multiplied by the number of charter days. For charters less than a week, the weekly rate is divided by six and multiplied by the number of days.

What is included in the charter rate?

Included in rate for all term charters is use of the yacht for specified time, crew, and water toys.

What is not included in the charter rate?

APA for expenses, Tax (if applicable), Gratuity to crew, and Repositioning fee (if applicable) are not included in the charter rate.

What is APA?

Expenses for any charter is collected at final payment in the form of an Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA). This sum is usually equivalent to 30% of the total charter fee, but may be 35% in some cases. Intended to cover the operating expenses of a charter as explained under Charter Terms. The APA will be given to the captain before the start of your charter. ANY remainder balance is given back to the charterer at the conclusion of the charter.

How much should I tip the crew?

Crew gratuities are at the charterers discretion, although it is customary for a charterer who has enjoyed the kind and attentive service of an obliging crew to extend a gratuity. Crew gratuities are normally between 15%-20% of the charter fee, but can be adjusted up or down according to your level of satisfaction.

What is a repositioning fee?

If you want to charter a yacht from a different location than their home port, or you want to get off at another harbor, the costs for transporting the vessel from or to the home port will be calculated by the captain and added to the charter rate.

Can I select the itinerary for my cruise?

Yes, the itinerary is totally customizable and designed for each guest. Our charter specialist will design an itinerary based on your preferences. Boatsetter brokers work with the Captain to make advance reservations for many activities, such as sightseeing tours, vehicle rentals, and restaurant reservations. During your charter, your Captain and crew will take care of any arrangements for you and adjust itinerary as well.

Am I allowed to smoke onboard the yacht?

Yes, smoking is permitted on the aft deck or flybridge. No smoking is permitted in the interior of the yacht.

How many people are allowed on board the yacht?

On day charters, 12 guests is the maximum occupancy of any commercial charter. When chartering a yacht overnight, the number of staterooms needs to correlate to guests staying onboard. Typically, each stateroom holds up to 2 guests.

How do I make sure I have everything I need on board (food, wine, etc.)?

Prior to departure, our team will ask you to complete a detailed preference sheet describing the preferences and special needs of all the members of your party, such as dietary or medial requirements, details of any allergies, and your sporting or entertainment requests. This will enable the crew of your chosen yacht to ensure you have a flawless experience during your stay onboard.

Tech magnate missing after luxury superyacht sinks off Sicily in 'violent storm'

A British tech magnate and several other people are missing after a luxury superyacht sank near Sicily’s main city, Palermo, during a violent storm, Italian officials and sources familiar with the matter told CNBC . At least one person was killed.

Mike Lynch, who was regularly described in U.K. media as “Britain’s Bill Gates,” was not among those rescued, said the sources, who asked not to be named because of the sensitivity of the situation. They added that Angela Bacares, Lynch’s wife, had been plucked from the waters off the Italian island.

Lynch was among six people who were unaccounted for, The Associated Press quoted Salvo Cocina of Sicily’s civil protection agency as saying. “They were in the wrong place at the wrong time,” he said. Cocina also confirmed that Bacares had survived.

Italy's coast guard said in a statement that the 184-foot sailboat, named the Bayesian, sank “due to a violent storm” off Palermo at around 5 a.m. local time (11 p.m. ET) with 22 people on board. Fifteen people were rescued, and six passengers were missing, it said.

American, British and Canadian citizens were among the missing, the statement said. The coast guard said in later statement that the ship’s cook had died. It did not give the cook's nationality.  

Karsten Borner, the captain of a ship that rescued the survivors, told reporters that there was a “strong hurricane gust, and we had to start the engine to keep the ship in an angled position,” according to Reuters.

He added that they had “watched the ship behind us not to touch them and we managed to keep the ship in position.” After the storm was over, he said, “we noticed that the ship behind us was gone.”

“Fifteen people inside. Four people were injured, three heavily injured, and we brought them to our ship, he said. “Then we communicated with the coast guard, and after some time, the coast guard came and later picked up injured people.”

One of the survivors, identified as Charlotte Emsley, 35, told the Italian news agency ANSA that she had momentarily lost hold of her 1-year-old daughter, Sofia, in the water but managed to retrieve her and hold her up over the waves until a lifeboat inflated and they were pulled to safety.

“I immediately hugged her again amid the fury of the waves. I held her tight, close to me, while the sea was stormy,” she said. “Many were screaming. Luckily, the lifeboat inflated, and 11 of us managed to get on it.”

The City Council of Bagheria said in a statement that a child of that age was being treated at a children’s hospital. It said that seven adults were taken to the emergency room but that “it seems that none are in serious conditions.” 

Lynch, 59, the missing tech entrepreneur, founded the enterprise software firm Autonomy and became the target of a protracted legal battle with Hewlett-Packard after the U.S. tech giant accused him of inflating the company’s value in an $11 billion sale. Extradited from Britain to the U.S. last year to stand trial, he was acquitted of fraud after a three-month trial.

Italy’s national fire department said in a statement that “divers, a motorboat and a helicopter” had been deployed to help with the search. The wreck was at a depth of around 165 feet, the statement said.  

Divers from the Sicilian city of Sassri and Naples, a city on the Italian mainland , were “arriving on site to search inside the sunken vessel,” it said. 

Built by Italian shipbuilder Perini in 2008, the U.K.-registered Bayesian has an aluminum hull and can carry 12 guests and a crew of up to 10, according to online specialist yacht sites. Online sites list the luxury vessel for charter for up to 195,000 euros (about $215,000) a week, the AP reported.

The boat left the Sicilian port of Milazzo on Wednesday and was last tracked east of Palermo on Sunday evening, with a navigation status of “at anchor,” according to the vessel tracking app Vesselfinder.

Fabio La Bianca, 40, took a picture of the boat at around 10 p.m. local time Sunday shortly after he closed his bar in nearby Santa Flavia. “Absurd tragedy tonight. I am lost for words,” he said Monday on Facebook.

PALERMO, Sicily, - One man died and six people were missing after a luxury yacht was struck by an unexpectedly violent storm and sank off the Sicilian capital Palermo on Monday, the Italian coast guard said.

Among those missing was British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch, a person familiar with the rescue operation said.

The 56-metre-long sailboat was identified as the British-registered Bayesian and sank with 22 people on board shortly before sunrise, the coast guard said in a statement.

The missing people were of British, American and Canadian nationality, the coast guard said. The 15 people rescued included a one-year-old child.

"The wind was very strong. Bad weather was expected, but not of this magnitude," a coast guard official in Palermo told Reuters.

Storms and heavy rainfall have swept down Italy in recent days - with floods and landslides causing major damage in the north of the country - after weeks of scorching heat.

Eight of those rescued were transferred to local hospitals. All were in stable condition, local media reported.

The captain of a nearby boat told Reuters that when the storm hit he turned the engine on to keep control of the vessel and avoid a collision with the Bayesian.

"We managed to keep the ship in position and after the storm was over, we noticed that the ship behind us was gone," Karsten Borner told journalists.

The other boat "went flat on the water, and then down," he added.

He said that his crew then found some of the survivors on a life raft - including three who were seriously injured and "a little baby and the wife of the owner" - and took them on board before the coast guard picked them up.

Entrepreneur Lynch, aged 59, was acquitted in June by a jury in San Francisco of fraud charges linked to the sale of his software company, Autonomy, to Hewlett-Packard for $11 billion in 2011.

He said at the time that he was "elated" to be cleared in the criminal trial in which he denied any wrongdoing and blamed HP for botching the integration of the two companies.

DIVERS INSPECT WRECK

The coast guard said divers were inspecting the wreck, at a depth of 49 metres.

Prosecutors in the nearby town of Termini Imerese have opened an investigation to look into what had gone wrong.

The Bayesian was built by Italian shipbuilder Perini in 2008 and was last refitted in 2020, and was managed by yachting company Camper & Nicholsons.

It won a string of awards for its design and can accommodate up to 12 guests in six suites and a crew of 10, according to online specialist yacht sites.

Formerly known as Salute, or health in Italian, its 75-metre mast is the tallest aluminium mast in the world, Perini said on its website.

The boat left the Sicilian port of Milazzo on Aug. 14 and was last tracked east of Palermo on Sunday evening, with a navigation status of "at anchor", according to vessel tracking app Vesselfinder.

A U.K. foreign ministry spokesperson said British officials were in contact with local authorities over the incident and were ready to provide consular support for Britons who were affected.

British tech tycoon Mike Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter are among the six people missing after a superyacht sank off the coast of Sicily on Monday, sources said.

The 59-year-old, who was once dubbed the UK’s answer to Steve Jobs, was onboard the 160-foot sailboat Bayesian with 22 others when it was struck by a tornado off the port of Porticello at sunrise, according to a person familiar with the rescue operation.

Lynch’s 18-year-old daughter, Hannah, is also among the missing passengers, according to his wife, Angela Bacares, the Telegraph reported .

Bacares and 14 others, including a 1-year-old child, managed to escape the boat before it went down.

At least one passenger was killed, the Italian coast guard said.

In addition to Lynch and his daughter, there are four other people unaccounted for, including two Americans.

The boat was carrying a crew of 10 people and 12 passengers at the time.

The names of those killed or still unaccounted for weren’t immediately released by authorities, but Italian media reported that the dead man was the yacht’s onboard chef.

Those who survived said the trip had been organized by Lynch for his work colleagues, according to sources.

Lynch — a wealthy tech founder — was acquitted just two months ago by a San Francisco jury of fraud charges linked to the sale of his software company, Autonomy, to Hewlett-Packard for $11 billion in 2011.

The sale had cemented Lynch’s reputation as Britain’s answer to the Apple magnate — but it quickly turned sour after HP wrote down Autonomy’s value by $8.8 billion.

In the wake of the jury’s ruling, the entrepreneur said he was “elated” to be cleared after denying any wrongdoing and blaming HP for botching the integration of the two companies.

Meanwhile, the coast guard said divers were trying to inspect the wreck of the Bayesian.

The six missing people are believed to be inside the boat’s hull, a spokesperson for the Italian fire rescue service said.

The search and rescue operations, which were visible from shore, involved helicopters and boats from the coast guard, fire rescue and civil protection service.

The boat is believed to be owned by Lynch’s wife.

The Bayesian, which was built by Italian shipbuilder Perini in 2008 and was last refitted in 2020, is owned by a firm called Revtom Limited — of which Lynch’s wife is named as the sole shareholder.

Mother recounts the harrowing moment she lost her 1-year-old amid superyacht shipwreck

A survivor of the luxury superyacht that sank near Sicily during a violent storm says she saved her 1-year-old by holding her above the rough and choppy waters.

The mother has been identified as 35-year-old Charlotte Golunski by Agenzia Nazionale Stampa Associata (ANSA), an Italian national news agency. She was among the 12 passengers and 10 crew members on board the Bayesian, a 184-foot sailboat, when it capsized in the early hours of Aug. 19 off the coast of Sicily, a village in southern Italy. The boat belonged to British tech magnate, Mike Lynch, who is still missing, along with five others.

Speaking to la Repubblica , an Italian newspaper, Golunski recounted battling turbulent waves to keep her daughter alive.

“I kept her afloat with all my strength, my arms stretched upwards so she wouldn’t drown. It was all dark. In the water, I couldn’t keep my eyes open. I was screaming for help, but all I could hear around me was the screams of others.”

In a separate interview with ANSA, Golunski is reported to have briefly lost her daughter while in the water.

“For two seconds, I lost the child in the water; then I immediately hugged her again amid the fury of the waves. I held her tightly, close to me, while the sea was stormy. Many were screaming.”

“Luckily, the lifeboat inflated, and 11 of us managed to get on it. It was terrible. In a few minutes, the boat was hit by a very strong wind and sank shortly after.”

Golunski was on board the yacht with the child’s father, James Emsili, who also survived the incident.

In a statement obtained by NBC News, Italy’s coast guard confirmed that the Bayesian sank “due to a violent storm” off Palermo at around 5 a.m. local time (11 p.m. ET).

Twelve passengers and 10 crew members were on board a superyacht called the “Bayesian” when it was hit by a storm and capsized.

According to NBC News , the ship's passengers were American, British and Canadian citizens.

So far, 15 people have been rescued, and one death has been confirmed. The body of the ship’s cook, Ricardo Thomas, was recovered on Aug. 19.

Mike Lynch, a 59-year-old British Irish entrepreneur dubbed by the U.K. media as “Britain’s Bill Gates,” was also on the ship, according to NBC News. Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter, Hannah, are among the six people who’ve yet to be accounted for in the search for the missing. His wife, Angela Bacares, was among the rescued.
