VENUS Yacht – Captivating $120M Superyacht

The VENUS yacht was delivered in 2012 by Feadship, a Dutch shipbuilding company.

Phillippe Stark designed the VENUS, and Jobs was an integral part of the yacht’s design. The 78m yacht has garnered a lot of attention thanks to the famous name who commissioned it, but there are not many details about the boat’s interior available.

VENUS yacht interior

The interior design of the VENUS yacht was largely designed by Steve Jobs, in combination with Philippe Starck .

The yacht’s interior has never been published, and the details available are in short supply. There is a lot of intrigue as to what the yacht’s interior looks like, thanks to the famous name who commissioned it.

One can only imagine that the interior reflects Apple’s slogan “Think Different,” with an eye-catching and minimalist interior to reflect the design of the yacht’s exterior.

It is known that the bridge is lined with 27-inch Mac computer screens, with large cabin windows that are almost floor to ceiling, with a main living area. There is accommodation for 12 guests in 6 suites and 22 crew.

The VENUS yacht has a unique exterior, reflecting the sleekness and eye-catching nature of Apple’s products, and was designed by Philippe Starck.

Feadship was commissioned to execute the build. Everything about the exterior is eye-catching and unique, from the silver paint job to the stainless steel details to the line of rectangular windows that run from the bow.

The structure of VENUS features 90-degree angles, an axe bow for piercing waves, and a flat and somewhat unusually squared stern that opens to reveal a tender garage.

There is no visible radar arch or satellite equipment, as all the equipment is hidden within a box that keeps the VENUS exterior appearance clean and sleek.

Specifications

The 78m VENUS yacht has an 11.8m beam and a 3.1m draft that makes the boat appear low-slung in the water.

The 2 MTU engines give VENUS a top speed of 20.5kn and a cruising speed of 18kn. She displaces 1,876 GT and can cover 5500 nautical miles.

She has an annual running cost of $10-$15 million and was rumored to cost $100 million to build. VENUS was refitted in 2015 at Monaco Marine.

Steve Jobs’ $120 million Venus superyacht is taking all focus on Australia’s Gold Coast

 • The Venus superyacht is a fully custom creation, built for the late Apple founder Steve Jobs
 • Sadly, Jobs never had the chance to set foot on board before his untimely death in 2011, the year before the superyacht launched
 • Venus remains in the family, now owned by his widow Laurene Powell Jobs

We all know what it’s like – you pull up to an exotic destination with your $120 million superyacht and everyone’s looking.

Okay, maybe we don’t – but the late Steve Job’s wife, Laurene Powell Jobs, certainly does.

Her Venus superyacht is accustomed to turning heads wherever it goes, and that’s exactly what happened when the luxury yacht was recently spotted on Australia’s beautiful Gold Coast.

The futuristic 256-foot-long beauty docked at Southport Yacht Club after sailing into the Seaway earlier this week.

And to be fair, it doesn’t look out of place in the idyllic city famed for its long sandy beaches, surfing spots, and gastronomic paradise.

Well, not entirely out of place.

Venus superyacht

And it’s not the first time Venus superyacht has been spotted in Australia.

Last year, the superyacht was spotted in Cairns, where it dwarfed every other boat in the harbor.

However, its not just its size that makes Venus a stellar ship .

Venus superyacht

The vessel’s exterior is dominated by a striking silver paint job, gleaming stainless-steel details, and a line of rectangular windows.

Built by Feadship and designed by Philippe Starck, she is long and lean, with an 11.8 meter beam and a low-slung superstructure made entirely of glass.

Starck designed Venus’ exterior with straight lines and 90-degree angles.

She has an axe bow, and an unusual flat, squared stern, which opens to reveal a tender garage.

Venus superyacht

The long forward deck, planked in teak, is completely free of clutter.

Notably, she has no visible radar arch or satellite equipment; all of this is hidden within a box to keep Venus’s exterior extremely clean.

Venus’s minimalist style, reminiscent of Apple products, extends to the interior, where multiple Mac computer screens line the bridge windows.

Other than glimpses into the bridge, the Venus superyacht’s interior has never been seen publicly.

Venus superyacht

But what we do know is, the ship can be controlled with an iPhone-like device, and that it sleeps 12 guests in six well-designed cabins, served by a crew of 22.

Sadly, Jobs never had the chance to set foot on board before his untimely death in 2011, the year before the superyacht launched.

“There will never again be a boat of that quality. Because never again will two madmen come together to accomplish such a task,” Starck said in an interview with Vanity Fair.

“There’ll never again be so much creativity, rigor, and above all, philosophy applied to a material creation,” he added.

“It was not a yacht that Steve and I were constructing; we were embarked on a philosophical action implemented according to a quasi-religious process. We formed a single brain with four lobes.”

Project Venus // Heesen Yachts

Heesen yachts joind hull and superstructure of venus..

Project Venus, a member of the prestigious 55 Steel series, stands out with its impressive length of over 55 meters and internal volume of 760 GT. It is the only 55-meter superyacht in Northern Europe currently available for purchase. Venus offers a unique opportunity for discerning clients to own a yacht with Dutch heritage, built to the highest quality standards, and with a shorter delivery time.

In the early 2000s, Heesen revolutionized the superyacht industry by introducing the concept of building a small series of yachts on speculation. This innovative approach allowed the shipyard to optimize material procurement, streamline the construction process, and reduce delivery times, all while maintaining the exclusive aesthetics and atmosphere associated with yachts of this caliber. Clients who prioritize exceptional quality performance efficiency and value their yacht’s strength, safety, and comfort in any sea conditions will find an unparalleled opportunity in Venus. This 55-meter Steel yacht will provide the perfect platform for creating unforgettable experiences with loved ones.

Heesen Yachts Superyacht Venus

The yacht can reach a top speed of 15.5 knots and travel up to 4,500 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 13 knots thanks to its two MTU4000 M63 (IMO Tier III) engines. Despite its steel construction and 600-ton half-load displacement, the yacht’s fuel consumption is low at around 210 liters per hour, excluding the hotel load. Heesen’s expertise in weight management has been applied to both lightweight aluminum yachts and steel-hulled vessels, resulting in impressive performance across all speeds. The combination of this construction technique and the Fast Displacement Hull form developed by van Oossanen and engineered by Heesen ensures exceptional performance.

Interior of superyacht VENUS

The interior design of Project Venus, crafted by Luca Dini Design and Architecture, is truly one-of-a-kind. Silvia Margutti, the head designer of this project, highlights the daring yet welcoming identity of Venus’ interior. The design is a testament to the exceptional craftsmanship of Heesen Interior, with a focus on contrasts and unique harmony. With its in-house fine cabinet-making workshop, Heesen is among the select few shipyards in the world that can offer exquisite finishes, reflections, and textures. Venus boasts six spacious staterooms that accommodate up to twelve guests, including an 82-square-meter owners’ quarters on the main deck with a private veranda on the starboard side for a secluded outdoor experience.

Heesen Yachts Superyacht Venus Interior

The outdoor areas, spanning 252 square meters, have been meticulously designed to provide the perfect setting for al fresco dining, entertaining, and relaxation. The sundeck, measuring 110 square meters, stands out as the centerpiece, offering versatility and an ideal layout for impeccable crew service, complete with double stair access. A luxurious whirlpool adjacent to the bar captivates attention with its breathtaking view of the horizon and the surrounding natural beauty. A hard top protects the sundeck’s bar and lounge area and features comfortable sofas and armchairs arranged around coffee tables. The sun loungers on the aft also provide an ideal vantage point for observing the world while cruising.

Moving to the bridge deck, the aft terrace boasts a bespoke expandable round table for al fresco dining. An aft lounge is perfect for entertaining guests before transitioning to the dining area. Flush sliding doors connect the sky lounge to the terrace, creating a luxurious indoor-outdoor space. After dinner, guests can retreat indoors for coffee and drinks. The upper pantry, equipped with a dumbwaiter, enables the crew to deliver exceptional service.

On the main deck, the aft terrace features comfortable built-in settees and accesses the fixed swim platform via double stairs. By strategically placing the tender and toys forward on the main deck, we have freed up 35 square meters to create a remarkable beach club. This area includes a wellness area with a sauna, day head, shower, and a fully serviced bar, making it one of the most sought-after spaces on board Venus.

How Royal Romance, a $200-Million Superyacht, Will Benefit Ukraine

By Katherine McLaughlin

Mega yacht Royal Romance is 93 meters long and 14.3 meters wide anchored in Rijeka harbor

Though superyachts are often seen as the frivolous toys of the wildly rich, one named Royal Romance could soon provide more than just a lavish vacation for those who can afford it. According to The Guardian , a $200-million superyacht once owned by Russian oligarch Viktor Medvedchuk will soon be put up for auction, with the sale funds going directly to supporting the people of Ukraine.

Medvedchuk, who is currently under sanctions, was arrested in Ukraine in April, though he was sent back to Russia in September through a prisoner exchange. The superyacht was seized in March of this year in Croatia as part of Western-imposed restrictions on the assets of oligarchs. According to the British paper, a Croatian court has recently ruled that the boat can be transferred to a special branch of the Ukrainian government, the Ukrainian Asset Recovery and Management Agency (Arma), and sold at auction to maintain its economic value.

Royal Romance was designed by De Voogt Naval Architects and built in 2015 by Dutch shipbuilders Feadship. Seymour Diamond was responsible for the ship’s interiors. Fit to hold 14 guests and 22 crew members, the 318-foot vessel also includes many notable amenities, including a swimming pool, gym, 3D cinema room, and fully equipped spa.

Though multiple superyachts have been seized over the past months, this is the first to be auctioned with the funds going directly to Ukrainian people. In September , a yacht owned by Dmitry Pumpyansky was auctioned off, but the sale went to J.P. Morgan, which claimed Pumpyansky owed the investment firm $21.75 million. Though it’s possible more of the seized yachts will be auctioned to support Ukraine in the future, as The New York Times reported, seizing and auctioning off assets is rarely a straightforward process. In the United States the Justice Department is working to expedite the process, but it can still take years.

Sunreef 100

For many yacht owners, the solution to finding more space aboard for friends and family is summed up by that immortal line by Chief Brody in Jaws: “You’re gonna need a bigger boat.”

Until now, bigger has typically meant longer. But that’s quickly changing as more and more builders are creating interior volume by going wider and taller. For disrupter builder Wally Yachts and its polarizing new Wallywhy 150—which refers to its internal volume rather than the boat’s length—the quirky design is said to deliver 50 percent more space than more traditional 78-footers.

Other builders like Princess have been in the game since 2021. Its X95 first appeared several years ago, effectively throwing down the gauntlet as a way forward for sub-100-foot yachts to supersize both interior and exterior volumes.

Since then, many other builders of small superyachts have jumped on board, with designs that typically have somewhat bloated profiles, far-forward main suites, and open transoms—features all designed to maximize space but minimize length.

Here are 10 new yachts 100 feet and under that are breaking the mold in an attempt to dominate the nautical space race.

It’s no wonder that disrupter Italian builder Wally—now part of the Ferretti Group—calls its latest head-turner a “spaceship.” Claiming up to 50 percent more space than comparable 78-footers, the 150 (named after interior volume rather than length) has standout features like a main salon with over eight feet of headroom, and a beam of more than 22 feet. The pragmatic design includes a one-level main deck attached to an open rear cockpit that offers easy access to the water. Its most noteworthy feature is the rule-breaking, full-beam master suite tucked into the bow on the main deck. It has wraparound glass—stretching all the way around the bow—for panorama-like views from the main bedroom. Priced from about $6.7 million.

Short for Ultra High Volume, this new Turkish-built pocket superyacht is a sistership to Lazzara’s UHV 100 and 125 models. The newest Lazzara boasts an impressive 2,153 square feet of interior space in its 87-foot length. Arguably, the boat is not pretty in a classic sense. The towering hull sides, blunt, plumb bow, and dark-tinted glass make it look more like a dinner cruiser than a mini-superyacht. But the interior space is astonishing, from the cavernous Sky Lounge, with its floor-to-ceiling windows, to the salon with a separate, chandelier-lit dining area and chef’s galley. With a fuel capacity of 3,000 gals, the twin 1,000 hp Volvo D13s deliver a top speed of 16 knots. The boat also has transatlantic range. Base price starts at about $10.9 million.

First interior renderings of largest Dutch-built superyacht revealed

The first interior renderings of Amels ' 120-metre project, now known as Project Tanzanite, have been revealed.

The full-custom superyacht was last seen in June 2023 when she arrived at the Damen Yachting facility in Vlissingen, the Netherlands, for outfitting.

The yacht is currently the largest project in build in the Netherlands, and, once delivered in 2025, will become the largest Dutch-built motor yacht in the world.

The record-breaking yacht is also set to become the largest member of the Amels fleet, surpassing the current 83-metre flagship Here Comes The Sun by 31 metres.

The yacht features exterior design by Espen Øino , who has worked with the yard on a number of projects in the last two years. Their shared portfolio includes the Amels 60 , the Amels 80 and the 77.8-metre custom project Energy .

Her interiors have been conceived by Nice-based studio Zuretti Design . Renderings reveal a warm, contemporary aesthetic that incorporates a cream and brown palette, curved furniture and statement walls in wood and marble.

Damen Yachting has completed the naval architecture in-house and the client will be represented throughout the build and final construction phase by Deeside Maritime.

The yacht arrived in the Netherlands from Damen Yachting's hull-building site in Galati, Romania. She was launched at the shipyard in May 2023, in a ceremony attended by local schoolchildren from the area.

Amels project manager Jeroen Waalewijn said at the time: "The launch of the hull was an emotional yet incredible moment for all of those who have played such an integral part in the realisation of the Amels 120 Full Custom so far. To see her out on the water and to now have her here in Vlissingen is a testament to the entire project team."

Project Tanzanite is set to incorporate the latest in design and technology, including diesel-electric engines and Azipod electric propulsion, which will help her "operate with the lowest levels of noise and vibration ever recorded on a yacht of this size", according to the yard.

She joins 12 other projects in build at Amels, including the 74-metre Nome , which was recently sighted on sea trials.

The largest yachts owned by tech billionaires, from Mark Zuckerberg to Jeff Bezos

 • Megayachts have become a status symbol for the richest of the rich.
 • In recent years, Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg have splurged on enormous boats.
 • These are the biggest yachts owned by tech billionaires.

Insider Today

The average Joe celebrating a personal renaissance after, say, the end of a long-term relationship or when approaching a fresh decade might commemorate it with an ankle tattoo or a sports car. But if you're a billionaire, you may instead spend hundreds of millions on a yacht .

A few years after he and his wife divorced, Jeff Bezos shelled out on a megayacht. Last year, Bezos debuted the 127-meter vessel "Koru," a Māori symbol that signifies a fresh start — perhaps referring to that with his fiancée Lauren Sanchez.

Earlier this year, just before his 40th birthday, Mark Zuckerberg became the rumored owner of a yacht originally built for a Russian oligarch.

Superyachts have increasingly become ultrawealthy status symbols , providing highly secluded leisure and networking sites. They are — even more so than real estate — the single most expensive asset you can own.

"It's a bit of a celebration of your success in life, of wealth," Giovanna Vitelli, the chair of the Azimut Benetti Group, the world's biggest producer of superyachts, told Business Insider.

While many tech billionaires have bought yachts, the richest of the rich, like Bezos, Zuckerberg, and Oracle cofounder Larry Ellison, have gone bigger. Their boats are virtual palaces at sea, decked with amenities like gyms, spas, pools, nightclubs, and movie theaters.

A look at these megayachts — broadly defined as over 70 meters long, mostly custom-built, and often costing nine figures — offers a glimpse into how the .00001% lives. It's something few others will ever get to experience. Even chartering a yacht of this size for a week typically costs upwards of $1 million.

One major thing that hundreds of millions of dollars can buy is privacy. There are likely yachts that have not been publicly recorded or registered — for example, Evan Spiegel is rumored to own the 94-meter megayacht Bliss. In an industry ruled by discretion , deciphering who owns what is typically an exercise in stringing together many clues.

Here are the largest yachts owned by tech billionaires, listed in order of length.

Jeff Bezos: Koru and Abeona

superyacht venus interior

Amazon founder Bezos' $500 million megayacht, the 127-meter Koru, made a splash last year as she crisscrossed the Mediterranean in her first summer at sea, with her 75-meter support vessel Abeona in tow.

The sailing yacht, which is hard to miss thanks to her massive size and unique design, was host to Bezos and his fiancée Lauren Sanchez's famous friends . The couple held an engagement party on board, which reportedly drew guests including Bill Gates, Ari Emanuel, and Leonardo DiCaprio. Just a week later, they were seen on the streets of Dubrovnik, Croatia, with Orlando Bloom, Katy Perry, and Usher.

Even before her completion, Koru made headlines. She drew the ire of some Dutch people, who vowed to hurl eggs after she was announced a historic bridge in Rotterdam might be taken apart to allow the Oceanco boat through. Luckily, the shipyard made alternative plans, and an egg crisis was averted.

Among yacht world insiders , Koru is widely praised for her craftsmanship.

"I heard back in 2018 or something that somebody had ordered a classic sailing yacht," one superyacht expert told BI. "You order 125 meters, that's not really going to be classic. But it is. I think it's pretty cool."

Mark Zuckerberg: Launchpad

superyacht venus interior

Earlier this year, the yacht world was rife with rumors that Zuckerberg purchased Launchpad, a 118-meter superyacht originally designed for a sanctioned Russian businessman.

The ship made her maiden voyage in March, going from Gibraltar to St. Maarten and mooring in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Little is known about her interior, but photos show a large swimming pool and helipad. Her price, too, has been kept under wraps but is said to be nine figures.

Eric Schmidt: Whisper

superyacht venus interior

Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt made waves last year when he agreed to buy the Alfa Nero , the yacht of a sanctioned Russian oligarch, for $67 million in an auction conducted by Antigua and Barbuda. But he backed out of the deal following legal issues over her true owner. He quietly purchased Kismet instead. The 95-meter-long Lürssen-built boat was formerly owned by the Jacksonville Jaguar's billionaire owner Shahid Khan . Schmidt renamed her Whisper.

The ship can fit 12 guests and a crew of 28, according to Moran Yacht & Ship, which oversaw her construction. She features a master deck with a private jacuzzi, full-service spa, lap pool, movie theater, and outdoor fireplace.

While her final sale price was not public, she was listed for 149 million euros (about $161 million at current exchange rates), and at a charity auction in January, one week aboard the ship went for $2.4 million, according to industry outlet Yacht Charter Fleet.

Barry Diller: Eos

superyacht venus interior

Barry Diller , the chairman of digital media company IAC, co-owns the megayacht Eos with his wife, fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg , who is immortalized by a figurehead sculpture by Anh Duong.

One of the largest private sailing yachts in the world, the three-masted Lürssen schooner measures 93 meters long. She took three years to be built before being delivered to Diller in 2009, and since then, little has come to light about her interior and features.

The power couple has hosted many celebrities on the Eos, which spends her summers crisscrossing the Mediterranean and New Year ' s Eve in St. Barts . Over the years, guests have included Oprah Winfrey, Emma Thompson, Anderson Cooper, and Bezos, leading some to believe she provided inspiration for his Koru.

Jim Clark: Athena

superyacht venus interior

Netscape founder Jim Clark purchased the 90-meter sailing yacht Athena in 2004.

"I could easily have built a 50- or 60-meter motor yacht that would have had the same space as Athena, but I was never really interested in building a motor yacht," he told Boat International in 2016. "To my eye, she's one of the most gorgeous large sailing yachts, maybe the most gorgeous large sailing yacht in the world."

Athena has room for 10 guests and 21 crewmembers, and the only change Clark says he'd make in her design is adding more space for his kids.

"If I was forced to change something, I would convert the office on the lower deck into a children's room," he said.

The former Stanford professor tried to sell her at various points — listing her for $95 million in 2012 , $69 million in 2016, and $59 million in 2017 — but she has yet to change hands.

Larry Ellison: Musashi

superyacht venus interior

Oracle founder Larry Ellison has owned several superyachts over the years, including the Katana, the Ronin, and the Rising Sun — which he sold to fellow billionaire David Geffen .

He purchased his current boat, Musashi, in 2011 for a reported $160 million from custom-yacht giant Feadship.

Named after a famous samurai warrior, the 88-meter-long yacht has both Japanese and Art Deco-inspired design elements. She also boasts amenities including an elevator, swimming pool, beauty salon, gym, and basketball court.

Ellison is known for his extravagant spending — private islands, jets, a tennis tournament — and yachting is among his favorite and most expensive hobbies. He took up racing them in the 1990s and financed the America's Cup-winning BMW Oracle Racing team .

Laurene Powell Jobs: Venus

superyacht venus interior

Steve Jobs' wife, investor and philanthropist Laurene Powell Jobs, inherited a nearly finished 78-meter yacht named Venus when the Apple cofounder died in 2011.

After spending years vacationing on Ellison's yachts, Jobs wanted one for himself. He designed Venus with French starchitect and decorator Philippe Starck , and she was worth $130 million at completion.

"Venus comes from the philosophy of minimum," Starck said of her design. "The elegance of the minimum, approaching dematerialization."

Jobs and Starck began working together in 2007, the designer told Vanity Fair , and held monthly meetings over four years. Venus was delivered in 2012 to Jobs' specification: six identical cabins, a design to ensure spaces of absolute silence, and the most up-to-date technology.

"There will never again be a boat of that quality again. Because never again will two madmen come together to accomplish such a task," Starck told the magazine. "It was not a yacht that Steve and I were constructing, we were embarked on a philosophical action, implemented according to a quasi-religious process. We formed a single brain with four lobes."

Charles Simonyi: Norn

superyacht venus interior

Early Microsoft employee Charles Simonyi has purchased two megayachts from the German shipyard Lürssen: the 90-meter Norn and 71-meter Skat.

Delivered in 2023, Norn is full of luxe features, including an outdoor cinema and a pool floor that lifts to become a light-up dancefloor. She shares a militaristic style with Skat , which Simonyi sold in 2021.

Skats's name is derived from the Danish word for treasure, and she had a listing price of 56.5 million euros and was launched in 2002.

"The yacht is to be home away from my home in Seattle, and its style should match the style of the house, adapted for the practicalities of the sea," Simonyi once said .

Sergey Brin: Dragonfly

superyacht venus interior

Google cofounder Sergey Brin has built a flotilla of yachts, boats, and toys known as the "Fly Fleet."

Named after a once-secret Google product , the largest of Brin's armada is the sleek Dragonfly , which boasts a movie theater and a helipad. The 73-meter-long vessel was built by the Australian shipyard Silver Yachts and can fit up to 18 guests and 16 crew members, according to SuperYacht Times.

Also in his fleet is the superyacht Butterfly, a mere 38 meters long. Often moored in the Bay Area, her crewmembers spend their downtime kitesurfing and giving swimming lessons to local kids.

The rest of his marine lineup includes a smaller boat called Firefly, as well as Jet Skis, foilboards, dinghies, and kiteboards. She takes a team of 50 full-time employees to manage, steer, and maintain the entire operation.

Sindhu Sundar contributed to an earlier version of this story.
