Located in the heart of downtown Ft. Lauderdale, just one block off Las Olas Blvd with its wide range of restaurants, galleries, and boutique shops, The Multihull Company’s offices are just about the sweetest spot in town.

Whether it’s helping you arrange for a few nights in town while you are viewing boats in the area, arranging dock space for your boat at a great price, or assisting with any other service that might be needed on your boat, we are here to help.

The Multihull Company’s Fort Lauderdale office is managed by Senior Brokers Alexis De Boucaud, Cynthia Wummer and Conor Dugan.

Alexis, who developed a love for the sea at an early age racing dinghies in the waters of Brittany, France immigrated to the United States as a young man and shortly after developed a fluency in both French and English. He then went on to study business at Amherst College, but knew even then that his true passion was in offshore cruising. He began his professional yacht career as a captain sailing the storied seas of French Polynesia on a Fountaine Pajot Marquises 57 catamaran. While there, he developed a talent for sharing and communicating his love for blue-water sailing to his worldly guests. Alexis took this skill and then began working as the base manager for Nautor’s Swan Charters, a high-end charter company with over fifty Swans based in the Caribbean, New England and the Mediterranean. While at Nautor’s Swan, Alexis coordinated the sale of new yachts through the French defiscalisation program. He later instituted a successful yacht sales and management program to develop the fleet in non-French territories. This experience gave him substantial experience in the many facets of yacht sales and brokerage in the United States, Europe and the Caribbean. Alexis joined The Multihull Company over ten years ago, working alongside founder Phil Berman to serve clients around the world.

Cynthia delivers lasting value for her clients as a genuine sailboat specialist. Her vast racing and cruising resumé bears a depth of knowledge that creates a winning connection. Cynthia says, “Some people come to the buying process with next-to-no experience, while others are extremely qualified cruisers looking for their next-level boat. Having a broad spectrum of experience helps me draw out and achieve all the finer points of what my clients are looking for.”

Conor was born and raised in a small beach town in New Jersey and began sailing Optimists competitively at a young age. He and his family relocated to Wilmington, North Carolina during his highschool years, where his interest in sailing bloomed into a lifelong passion. After graduating, Conor moved to the Virgin Islands to pursue a career as a professional captain. Conor now joins TMC’s growing expert team of agents in South Florida to assist clients with their purchase or sale of their catamaran to fullfill their cruising dreams!

We take pride in our happy customers

Your team delivered on every mark. You’ve got an amazing broker in Mark Wattrus and I’m confident you will have continued success moving forward together. He was available 24/7 whenever I had questions. We had a great initial visit on the boat and his marketing plan and photos were superb

I bought a yacht that I had never seen. I did this because I trusted my broker Andrew Holland. It was not an easy job for Andrew, as I am an experienced boat builder and owner of previous yachts, but work in West Africa. Imagine how hard it was to communicate what I was looking for. Andrew came up with exactly what I wanted. He dealt with time delays, all my questions at odd hours, and was there for the survey. He reported honestly and professionally. After buying the yacht, I arrived at the boat on a Sunday night, after dark, after travelling from West Africa to the Caribbean, and found it was better than expected. He never pulled punches and made me aware of shortfalls. I expected to spend my one month leave working on the boat, but actually spent less than one week, and was able to spend 3 weeks sailing – wonderful bonus.

Thank you Andrew for putting up with all my questions, all my worries and all my crazy out of the time zone concerns – you were totally professional, but also I know that if and when we meet up, it will be like a friend finally meeting. You are always welcome on Aseka.

— Beverly Cory

Outstanding company with professional subject matter experts. If I were to buy or sell cruising sailboat, particularly a catamaran, Andrew would be my go to broker.

I have been sailing since I was a child and attended Massachusetts Maritime Academy. But when my wife and I began the process of purchasing an ocean cruising/racing catamaran, I realized that this is a world unto itself. Obviously, we needed to find someone knowledgeable to help us make an informed decision. More importantly, we needed someone honest and willing to put our interests before his or her own. I was lucky to work with Phil Berman at The Multihull Company. He repeatedly shunned the fast buck, choosing instead to work the long road to connect us with the “perfect boat”. I would be glad to recommend Phil and his company to anyone planning to purchase or sell a performance sailing machine.

— Eric Boutiette

Andrew Hodgdon was our broker when we bought our 2018 Lagoon 450F in Antigua in April 2922. He provided great service and was very attentive to our needs. We would highly recommend Andrew and the Multihull Company.

Spring break coeds brawl, total chaos on beach, spring break all-girl brawl beach, 241 3/12/2024 7:53 am pt.

11:03 AM PT -- Fort Lauderdale PD is saying this brawl has nothing to do with their city or their beaches -- so it's unclear where exactly this happened ... but it's still pretty crazy all the same.

Spring Break's looking more like a UFC match as all-out mayhem erupts on South Florida beaches ... and the good people of Fort Lauderdale are probably saying, "Thanks a lot, Miami!!!"

The annual college student getaway kicked off Monday with thousands of students making their way to FL, and it almost immediately got outta hand. Multiple bikini-clad students went toe-to-toe in the sand -- as the video shows, it quickly turned into a melee involving dozens.

No word on what exactly sparked the brawl, but we're guessing alcohol played a part.

This is exactly the kinda scene Miami Beach feared when the city imposed new restrictions ahead of Spring Break -- but, as you can see, the madness has just moved up the coast a bit to Lauderdale.

R̶e̶p̶u̶ ̶H̶a̶l̶l̶w̶e̶e̶k̶ Spring Break 2024 - Fort Lauderdale Day 1. pic.twitter.com/UJ7u98KV71 — The Suit Guy™ (@ekowmclean) March 11, 2024 @ekowmclean

Miami's decision came after 2 shootings during last year's break, which also resulted in 488 arrests ... and more than 230 of them were felony cases.

As we reported ... the city posted a campaign video where spring breakers were urged to take the party elsewhere and informed there would be threatened curfews, bag checks, restricted beach access and DUI checkpoints.

All vibe killers, so it's no wonder Fort Lauderdale is absorbing the massive party scene.

One day in, and that city has already had to ramp up the police presence ... putting more officers in the sand to patrol beach parties, and K-9 units were inspecting sunbathing revelers.

Cops or not, one thing's already clear -- when the crowds gather, there's gonna be fighting.

Subscriber only, theater | review: how wonderful life is when ‘moulin rouge the musical’ is in fort lauderdale.

Christian Douglas and Gabrielle McClinton in "Moulin Rouge! The Musical." (Matthew Murphy for MurphyMade/Courtesy)

Harold Zidler, your host for the evening of “Moulin Rouge! The Musical,” peeks his rouge-stained face out from between the large red curtain.

A maniacal cross between the Wizard of Oz, a Cirque du Soleil clown and the cynical emcee from “Cabaret,” Zidler extends his welcome to the audience (his “chickens”), who have been thrust into his Paris club (which is on the verge of bankruptcy) late in the 19th century.

“Welcome, you gorgeous collection of reprobates and rascals, artistes and arrivistes, soubrettes and sodomites. No matter your sin, you are welcome here.”

Amid a cacophony of thumping music, Zidler intones: “This is where all your dreams come true. You are the Moulin Rouge!”

This “Moulin Rouge!” version, which the national touring company has brought to Fort Lauderdale’s Broward Center for the Performing Arts through Sunday, March 17, is more of a trip down memory lane — the mixtapes of a recent (not current) present, of decades past and then even further back. A mashup of 70 songs (some performed in full, others only snippets) spanning 160 years of music.

Using the same formula as Baz Luhrmann’s iconic 2001 film, the musical has updated its catalog. The Broadway show opened 18 years after the movie, so a revise was in order.

It retains some of Luhrmann’s soundtrack, including Jacques Offenbach’s “Can Can,” Madonna’s “Material Girl,” and “Roxanne” and “Every Breath You Take” from The Police. But “Like a Virgin” is out.

The cast of the North American Tour of "Moulin Rouge! The Musical," which will be a part of the Broadway in Fort Lauderdale season with a run in March 2024. (Matthew Murphy for MurphyMade/Courtesy)

Elton John’s “Your Song,” which has a reprise, is one of the constants. The storyline gives the lead character credit for having penned the lyrics as he sings to his beloved: “How wonderful life is while you’re in the world.”

There’s a trio of Rolling Stones hits, but Nirvana is out. Plenty of updates up the ante on the surprises: Katy Perry’s “Firework,” Britney Spears’ “Toxic,” Rihanna’s “Diamonds,” Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies,” Sia’s “Chandelier,” Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy,” and Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep.”

(As of yet, no Taylor Swift songs, despite the Eras Tour phenomenon. But with the popularity of both the musical and Swift not abating anytime soon, we wouldn’t be surprised. May we suggest “Champagne Problems”? After all, this is set in Paris.)

While “Moulin Rouge!” borrows from virtually everything — “La Bohème,” “Rent,” “Romeo and Juliet,” “West Side Story” (plus a mistaken identity twist that goes back even further than Shakespeare) — the musical remains an eye-popping original. There’s spectacle at every turn. Catherine Zuber’s costumes and Derek McLane’s sets assure that.

The story follows an aspiring American writer/composer named Christian, played in the national tour by Christian Douglas, who is every bit a leading man with a tenor range that can sing everything from a Broadway classic to rock ‘n’ roll. In Paris to pursue his dreams, he ends up quickly finding his muse at the Moulin Rouge! nightclub. Satine (Gabrielle McClinton) is a courtesan and the club’s main event, “The Sparkling Diamond.” McClinton gives the character a depth of vulnerability as she hides her illness from everyone who is depending on her, and she handles the pop score with ease. If only there were more sparks between her and Douglas.

Adéa Michelle Sessoms and Jennifer Wolfe in the North American Tour of "Moulin Rouge! The Musical." (Matthew Murphy for MurphyMade/Courtesy)

Of course, there’s a mix-up. Satine thinks she’s meeting the Duke of Monroth (Andrew Brewer), who Zidler (Robert Petkoff) hopes will invest money and save the club. But it’s Christian she takes up to her elaborate boudoir, one of McLane’s many splendid set creations.

There’s also a subplot about a group of Bohemians who are trying to put on their own show led by Toulouse-Lautrec (a hauntingly good Nick Rashad Burroughs) and the Argentine tango dancer Santiago (the scene-stealing Danny Burgos).

Santiago has also taken up with one of the Rouge dancers, Nini, played by Sarah Bowden, who leads the magnificent ensemble. All 18 deserve a mention for each is called on to perform spectacular feats, and they deliver. They wow at every turn, with splits, flips and provocative moves.

Bowden’s tango pas de deux with Burgos is breathtakingly sultry. Both make magic out of Tony Award-winner Sonya Tayeh’s choreography.

Many in the ensemble double in the singing ensemble, which also calls for vocal acrobatics.

A note: At the theater, while you’re chatting with friends or gathering for a selfie before the lights go down, don’t miss what’s already happening onstage. Some of the characters come out to play before the show, including two showgirls who perform a sword-swallowing act.

It’s a glimpse of what’s to come in the madcap “Moulin Rouge! The Musical.” And frenzied fun it is.

It’s doubtful you’ve seen an “Oliver!” like the one Area Stage has dreamed up. The company’s artistic director, Giancarlo Rodaz, has been attracting attention with his immersive productions of “Annie,” Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” and “The Little Mermaid.” But “Oliver!” tops them all.

Ben & Jerry’s and Magnum will form the core of an $8 billion ice cream company

the catamaran company fort lauderdale florida

London (CNN) — The world’s biggest ice cream business is about to go it alone.

Unilever announced Tuesday that it plans to spin off its ice cream unit as part of a drive to boost salesand profitability, which will also entail cutting around 6% of the workforce.

After a century-long endeavor, Unilever now dominates the global ice cream market, with its brands soldaround the world. “Following separation, Unilever will become a simpler, more focused company,” it said in a statement.

The newly minted firm will boast five of the 10 best-selling ice cream brands worldwide, namely Magnum, Ben & Jerry’s, Breyers, Walls and Cornetto. Sales of these and Unilever’s other ice cream brands together amounted to€7.9 billion ($8.6 billion) last year.

“The future growth of Unilever and ice cream is best served by separating the business,” Unilever CEO Hein Schumacher told journalists. He pointed to ice cream’s “distinct characteristics,” such as season-dependent demand and a supply chain that must be able to support frozen goods.

Under the growth plan unveiled in October, the UK-based company “committed to do fewer things better and with greater impact,” Schumacher added in the statement. “The changes we are announcing today will help us accelerate that plan.”

The origins of Unilever’s ice cream business can be traced back to the summer of 1913, when Thomas Wall started selling ice cream from his family butcher shop in London.

Unilever has since snapped up some two dozen major ice cream brands from around the world.

Today, it sells ice cream in more than 60 countries and commands almost a fifth of global ice cream sales, a bigger share than that of the next four biggest sellers combined, according to 2020 figures from market research firm Euromonitor.

But its ice cream sales took a hit last yearas cash-strapped consumers cut back on non-essential spending. “Ice cream had a disappointing year (in 2023) with declining market share and profitability,” Unilever said in an earnings statement.

Commenting on Tuesday’s announcement, Matt Britzman, an equity analyst at online investment platform Hargreaves Lansdown, said the move was not “a huge shock.” “Ice cream always looked like the odd one out when you compare it to other product lines, and performance has struggled of late.”

According to Schumacher, Unilever will most likely list the new ice cream company on the stock market by the end of 2025, although it will consider other options “that come to the table” over the next 18 months, with a view to maximizing value for shareholders.

The spinoff will leave Unilever with four divisions: beauty and wellbeing, personal care, home care and nutrition.

Unilever also launched a “major productivity program,” which will result in €800 million ($868 million) in cost savings over the next three years and 7,500 job cuts — predominantly office-based roles — as the company uses technology to boost efficiency.

“We are looking at various layers in the organization,” including head office roles in London and positions in other countries, Schumacher said.
