About Luxury Sailing Catamaran ORION: Luxury sailing catamaran Orion is a custom built superyacht, a rare breed indeed.  She has all the pedigree that one could wish from the track record of her designers, the universal respect for her builder, and the knowledge and experience of her owner. She is absolutely ready for any adventure around the Caribbean and during special occasions in other luxury sailing holiday spots. The yacht was last refitted in 2013 and as yacht charter boat designed like a synthesis of from all of Catana's knowledge you can rest assured that if you book this yacht, you are in for a special experience Exterior: The yachts design profits from Catana’s Carbon Infusion technology, the Twaron Impact process and a number of latest Catana innovations.  The custom units designed and built by the Catana shipyard provide all charter guest with extremely comfortable and safe surroundings. The headroom, under the nacelle, which is always a great surprised, and the length of the two hulls give the ORION a remarkable stability on the water.  And while comfort is important, the ORION also has all the assets to face the most extreme sailing conditions. The curved dagger boards, unique offering on all Catana yachts, make it possible for the boat to glide downwind and for the helmsman to enjoy the sensations previously reserved to professional navigators. They are also incredibly efficient in sailing upwind and avoid heavy weather.  The interior panelling and cabinetry is built in the finest French cherrywood and almost all of this impeccable carpentry is foam cored for lightweight strength and stability. Interior: Everything on board is conceived to make the life easy and to allow the passengers to devote themselves to the joy of speed on the water during long crossings.  The customised furniture and panoramic views make moving on board and navigation very comfortable. The salon being exceptionally spacious, the cabins large and isolated from any disturbing noise thanks to the insulation system and the height on the water, make this super yacht one of the best sailing catamarans on the yacht charter market today.  ORION is a very light and airy yacht with 20 opening hull ports and 12 opening hatches and windows with screens and blinds, in addition to the huge sliding doors to the cockpit. Indoor and outdoor salons offer choices for dining and lounging throughout the day and into the evening with meals prepared by your personal chef. Two swim platforms, two deck showers, two dinghies and plenty of water toys keep guests of all ages as active as they wish to be. Accommodation: Luxury sailing catamaran ORION has a very spacious interior which offers flexible accommodations for couples and families.   Master Stateroom: The starboard pontoon houses the private master apartment with its huge en suite bath and the family area.  This unique suite has two connecting cabins and one large bath with a vanity, toilet and shower, accommodating up to 2+2 guests. One of the cabins has a king size bed. The adjoining kid’s cabin, dubbed the "Pirate's Den", has two double beds plus a smaller child’s bed perfect for older kids or a nanny and younger children. Guest cabins: There is one more large master/VIP room with king size bed and large en suite. On top, the additional en suite VIP stateroom can be configured with one king bed for a couple or two single beds. All cabins have individual A/C controls, CD and DVD players and portholes that look out to the horizon. Chef: Holistic gourmet chef, Allison Thompson is responsible for food on board of ORION luxury sailing catamaran.  She is always happy to ensure her food will please the body and delight the senses of every guest onboard. Dining aboard ORION is an experience for all the senses - the ultimate expression of that experience is chef’s artful presentation influenced by cuisines enjoyed during her world travels.  She says of her cooking: “My culinary style is inspired by world travels, 200,000 sea miles, and my love of whole foods. I like to cook using fresh produce; opting for local spray-free, organic and free range when available.”  Alison was inspired by cuisines and learned to cook in countries as varied as Mexico, India, Italy, Thailand, The Pacific Islands, the Mediterranean, California fusion, and Japanese Sushi... to name a few.  She is a self-taught chef with over 30 years’ experience. Alison loves to learn from those she cooks with and for who she cooks.  And as she has  catered for people desiring to lose weight, vegetarians, vegans, raw foodies, no fat cholesterol-free heart patients, diabetics and kids  - -  and meat eaters,  you can be sure that whatever you like, it’s her pleasure to prepare it for you. Luxury crewed charter yacht ORION is fully air conditioned throughout. This is a non-smoking vessel. ORION´s experienced super yacht charter crew of up to 5 including the captain Scott Fratcher have a separate head and shower but share companionway with the guests. Guests may not be allowed to bring pets on-board.

Super Yacht TENDER: Mega yacht ORION has a 4.5m tender on board with a 90hp engine Super Yacht itineraries: Luxury sailing catamaran ORION will normally cruise around the East Caribbean. Usual sailing grounds cover the British Virgin Islands and the rest of Leeward islands including Anguilla, St Martin, St Barths and Antigua and Barbuda.  On occasion the yacht will gladly accept one way charters or direct charters in or around Windward Islands including Grenadines.

Luxury sailing yacht ORION (27.4m/90’) is a CATANA built super sail cat, launched in 2008 and refitted in 2013.  She accommodates up to 8+1 charter guests sleeping in 1 Owner appartment, 1 x King and 1 x VIP cabins, all of which are en suite.  There are at least 4 super yacht crew members on board at any time.  This charter yacht mainly cruises at speeds of around 9kn.  ORION is normally offered for luxury yacht charter within the EAST Caribbean Islands, between BVI’s and the Grenadines.   Thanks to hear twin engines totalling 430hp, and impressive sail area, during the right sea and wind conditions, she can reach maximum speeds of around 18kn while cruising at speeds of around 9kn.  She is a perfect owner yacht whose best features are an enormous owners apartment with 2 cabins and large family area, great safety when sailing at high winds and good sailing performance.

The Polish yard has previously featured this patented “solar skin” on a number of models, including a 100-foot sailboat , a smaller 80-foot sailer , and an 80-foot cat . The SWCAT90 concept was developed in collaboration with our long-term partner Nauta Design, who were responsible for the interior and exterior design and styling. Berret-Racoupeau, a catamaran specialist design firm based in La Rochelle, was responsible for the naval architecture. Southern Wind Shipyard has been recognized as the preeminent builder of 27-35m composite sailing yachts that combine performance with comfort and reliability. These elements have become part of the DNA of every SWS yacht. In response to a demand for greater levels of comfort without compromising on performance, the shipyard has developed a new sailing catamaran project that embodies and enhances these principles.

The SWCAT90 superyacht catamaran has been developed as a versatile platform that can be tailored to an owner’s wishes and allows for a high level of customization. Whether an owner’s priorities are incredible performance, eco-friendly sustainability, or to have the perfect luxury charter yacht, the SWCAT90 can be adapted and enhanced to meet expectations.

A TRUE SUPERYACHT CATAMARAN

The space and volume available on a sailing catamaran of this scale is comparable to a 39m monohull. With 171m 2 of interior floorspace, the SWCAT90 features a vast saloon area of 45m 2 with 360° panoramic views. The deck space, including the flybridge and two cockpits, is an impressive 207m 2 , an increase of 50% when compared to a similarly sized monohull. The interior layout offers four guest cabins plus two or three crew cabins, with the crew quarters separated from the luxury guest areas to allow for maximum privacy.

SAIL PLAN OPTIONS

Berret-Racoupeau brought their knowledge and expertise to this partnership. Performance was high on our list of priorities, ensuring not only boat speed but a superyacht catamaran that appeals to the senses and is a pleasure to sail. Two sail plan options have been developed to appeal to the varying expectations of potential owners. For the appendages high-efficiency curved daggerboards with T-rudders offer an increase in boat speed, while improving comfort by reducing pitching in rough conditions.The hulls, bridge deck and superstructure will be constructed in carbon fibre sandwich, utilising the specialized infusion technique. The specification and equipment selection for this SWCAT90 are in line with the highest superyacht catamaran standards and chosen with the environment in mind.

ALVA Yachts goes long with a 90-foot solar electric superyacht boosted by hydrogen and wing sails

Luxury electric boatbuilder ALVA Yachts is doing what many in the maritime industry consistently strive toward – building vessels bigger and better. Its latest solar electric catamaran is a 90-foot superyacht called the OCEAN ECO 90 H2 – in addition to zero-emissions propulsion and sustainable power, it adds hydrogen fuel cells and a wing sail propulsion system to alleviate any need for fuel aboard. Oh, don’t forget the jacuzzi up top.

ALVA Yachts is a German company founded in 2020 by Mathias May and Holger Henn, evolving out of PICA yachts. It was originally founded in 2013 – launching over forty 20- to 30-foot sailing and electric powerboats in its tenure.

We’ve covered the boatbuilder more and more as of late as it looks to create the next generation of zero-emission yachts by developing a growing lineup of solar electric catamarans that are as luxurious as they are sustainable.

In the past three years alone, ALVA Yachts has introduced a 50-foot cruiser, two electric sailboats in lengths of 72- and 82-feet, plus 60- and 90-foot all-electric yachts, including the OCEAN ECO 60, which debuted in 2022  and is now in production.

Last month, ALVA introduced a new 78-foot solar electric catamaran slotted between the OCEAN ECO 60 and  OCEAN ECO 90 – the latter of which was previously available as an all-electric or diesel-hybrid superyacht.

Today, however, ALVA has gone all in on fuel-less yachts; a new version of the OCEAN ECO 90 adds hydrogen and wind power to ensure true zero emissions. Have a look.

ALVA is building its first fuel-less electric superyacht

The boatbuilder announced today that the build of its first OCEAN ECO 90 H2 solar electric superyacht is underway and will arrive as its first vessel to run without any fossil fuels, producing zero emissions.

The fully electric superyacht is propelled by two 250 kW motors as standard, with an optional upgrade to a 2×480 kW system. The motors are powered by a 500+ kWh battery pack aboard that can recharge using 200 square meters of solar cells atop the vessel that can provide up to 40 kilowatt-peak (kWp) power from nothing but the sun.

What’s new on the OCEAN ECO 90 H2 is the integration of hydrogen fuel cells as an additional zero emissions range extender, supplied by EODev and integrated by SECO Marine. Lastly, the solar electric superyacht will feature an Oceanwings wind propulsion system from Ayro that utilizes wind sensors on the wing sails to analyze data and adjust the wing sail angle and camber automatically.

The result is a 90-foot catamaran with several sustainable fail-safes to ensure the vessel stays powered for long journeys at sea.

Aside from its ultra-green performance specs, the vessel is still a luxury superyacht. It features an open-air concept that includes an open flybridge and helm, plus a sky lounge, cocktail bar, and top-deck jacuzzi. Other features include a large galley with a full-size fridge, an island with bar stools, and a large dining table that seats twelve guests.

The owner of the first ALVA OCEAN ECO 90 H2 has already stated they plan to use the electric superyacht for commercial use, including private and corporate events, plus charters to showcase that environmentally safe, luxury sailing is possible. ALVA Yachts CEO Holger Henn spoke to the company’s latest build as well:

We are very happy to have found such a confident and innovative client that pushes us to explore new technologies. This project would not be possible without our classification partner DNV which has established new ground rules especially for us because this has never been done before. In addition to DNV, our engineering partner iYacht has surpassed our expectations when faced with such advanced engineering challenges. What is special about this project is certainly the leap that we are making in technology. A superyacht that can operate without fossil fuel is something we could only dream of. But with the help of strong partners and a lot of effort from the ALVA team, we want to show what is possible in boat building today.

As previously stated, ALVA’s first OCEAN ECO 90 H2 is already in production, and it is expected to make its maiden voyage in late 2024.

Alva Yachts building fuel-free 90 foot electric superyacht with hydrogen, wingsails

German electric solar catamaran builder ALVA Yachts is building a 90ft catamaran – the Ocean Eco 90 H2 – that will burn no fuel. The 85 ton vessel is propelled by electric motors and wingsails, with electricity supplied through a system using solar panels, hydrogen fuel cells and battery storage. The boat is scheduled to be on the water in late 2024

Commercial use including events and chartering

The undisclosed owner of the superyacht says he is “converting a dream to reality” with the goal of “highlighting to the public that we can sail safely, sustainably, with an environmentally fully clean system and with a high level of comfort.” He plans to use the Ocean Eco 90 H2 for commercial use including private and corporate events, and chartering.

ALVA has a full line of sailing, solar electric and hybrid yachts ranging from 50 to 90 meters, and the Ocean Eco 90 is also available in a standard all-electric and hybrid version that uses diesel generators to extend range.

The fuel free capabilities of the Ocean Eco 90 H2 are achieved through integration of different solutions:

• Wind propulsion is provided by twin AYRO Oceanwings with wind sensors on the wing sails.
• Mechanical propulsion is provided by twin 250 kW (total ≈680HP) electric motors
• Electricity is generated from 200m 2 (2,150 sq ft) of solar panelling, which provide up to 40kWp.
• A hydrogen fuel cell from EODev is also connected to the 500+kWh battery pack.

EODev is the commercial arm of the Energy Observer research vessel, which is sailing around the world without emitting any carbon or particles. The fuel cell system on the Ocean Eco is a product of research and development on a similar set-up on the Observer. It provides electricity to augment the solar generation. This is supplied to the battery as necessary and used for propulsion or ‘hotel’ load – the electric amenities like lighting and air conditioning in the boat.

Similarly, the Ayro Oceanwings wingsail system has been refined through data collected from use on Energy Observer, which has sailed more than 50,000 nm with zero emission. A wingsail is essentially an aircraft wing turned upright that provides horizontal ‘lift’ (instead of vertical) to assist a boat being on tack. The Oceanwings are automated, with sophisticated software that monitors and analyzes wind and water conditions and adjusts the angle of the wingsail for optimum efficiency.

ALVA Yachts was founded in Germany in early 2020 when Henn, a celebrated yacht designer who has won numerous awards, joined with Mathias May, previously head of business development at Silent-Yachts. their idea was to service the emerging market for luxury electric yachts with superyacht quality fit and finish. 

True to their vision, the open flybridge of the new vessel has a sky lounge, cocktail bar and jacuzzi on the top deck. It offers a large beach club, water sports and entertaining areas coupled with spacious above deck living and relaxing zones that provide a modern ocean lifestyle.

There are twin bathing platforms at the stern and the aft deck is set up for al fresco dining or sunset cocktails with plush U-shaped seating for eight guests. 

The Ocean Eco 90 H2 is extremely well-suited to accommodate both private events and chartering, with a large enclosed saloon and spectacular entertaining area with large dining table for twelve. The galley comes complete with full size fridge-freezer (there’s your hotel load) and features a large separate island with bar and stools.

Zero emission yachts getting bigger and bigger

The generous master suite boasts spacious lounge seating areas either side of the bed, a private study and walk-in wardrobe leading to a large en-suite bathroom with dual sinks. There is a twin guest room with en-suite and more guest accommodations in the other catamaran hull: two ensuite double rooms and two single rooms.

The Alva Ocean Eco 90 is part of a growing trend to bring electric and zero emission propulsion to large yachts. The new 120 Explorer by Silent-Yachts was a winner of the 2022 Gussies Electric Boat Awards. The Sunreef 80 Eco sailing catamaran just won a Yacht Club de Monaco Explorer Award for its use of solar panels incorporated into the entire hull of the boat. Soel Yachts unveiled plans for the Solar Senses 82 last year.

In some ways, the Ocean Eco 90 H2 and others are serving the advance of zero emission solutions the same way high speed racing is the proving ground for next generation technologies. The size of these superyachts means they have lots of room for solar electricity generation and can more easily accommodate increased battery sizes and weights.

In addition, their owners have the financial wherewithal to afford cutting edge technologies like fuel cells and wingsails along with the desire to contribute to climate change solutions. Expect to see more of these exciting innovations and yachts in the near future.

Hybrid power system comprises extensive use of solar panels (50m2) combined with new generation electric propulsion by in-house Wider Management System (WMS). No engine noise, no vibrations and no CO2 emissions in “hotel” mode.

The McConaghy 82P power catamaran is an appealing all-rounder: a confident long-range cruiser, family yacht and coastal weekender, as well as offering a desirable platform for commercial charter.

The McConaghy 82P power catamaran is driven from the flybridge. Equipped with twin 250hp Yanmar engines, the yacht will reach a top speed of 17 knots and cruise at 10 knots, with the efficient hull form and lightweight construction reducing fuel burn by 30 to 50% compared to a motor yacht of the same length.

Large Volumes for Unsurpassed Living Confort and Entertaining

The yacht’s internal volume has been maximized and every space configured with distinct purpose in a layout that dispels all preconceptions of yacht interiors. The MC82p features a huge saloon lounge with a dining area and open plan galley on the main deck. A spacious aft deck with sofas provides an al fresco dining space, and a cozy exterior lounge is placed forward of the superstructure.

On the flybridge there is another informal dining area and freestanding lounge furniture, with sun loungers positioned aft to make the most of the elevated and uninterrupted views. The flybridge itself is sheltered by a fixed bimini with a retractable center ‘sun roof’ panel.

The accommodation arrangement allows for four seaward-facing double cabins, three of which can be converted to twin berths, and there are two additional cabins for the crew.

The MC82p carries a 5.7m tender on a hydraulic aft platform, which, with the tender deployed, creates a spacious swim platform, or provides additional deck space. Additional production options include solar power generation, synthetic teak decking, various hull colors, underwater lights and an impressive integrated audiovisual package.
