Our family of six has wanted to go to Hawaii, but flying six is too much $$, so instead we drove (from Utah) to San Diego. This was a great alternate. You know those Elvis movies where he checks into these wonderful 1960's style Hawaiian resorts and you wish you could go back in time to THAT place? That is what it felt like (not that it was outdated, just nostalgic). From the minute you walk in, you are transported to another world. The grounds are beautiful, with tropical plants, unique water fowl, koi, turtles, and tropical birds. We fed ducks from the porch, enjoyed a free ferry ride across the bay (take jackets in cooler months), and swam in the pool (with a duck). We loved the staff. They were so helpful and attentive. We ate a lovely breakfast in the restaurant and then were off to Mission Bay...literally, just steps away. The resort provides covered lounge chairs and rentals if you want to paddle board or canoe. If you prefer the ocean, it's one block away! One of the days, Dad and Son went off to Legoland (plan on about an hour commute to Legoland), and me and the girls went to the ocean at low tide. They collected hundreds of sand dollars. When someone was cold (it was November...chilly-warm), I said, "hold on, I'll run to the room and get your jacket!" Not far at all! We LOVED our stay here, just wish it was longer.

Our groundskeepers do an exceptional job maintaining the beautiful landscaping, koi ponds are scattered throughout the property, ducks roam the pathways, and guests have convenient access to both Mission Bay and Mission Beach. We hope the entire family enjoyed soaking in the San Diego sun and splashing in the ocean waves, and we hope you have the chance to return in the near future!

Booked a long weekend trip to San Diego (1st timer here) through Allegiant. What a great location - right on the water (not the ocean but a lagoon / bay area). We arrived early and were able to check-in early and not only that but we were upgraded to a king suite overlooking the water. Haley was awesome checking us in and was very helpful with our questions (1st timers to the city) and always greeted us with a smile. As we walked to our room we were very impressed with the grounds - there were macaws and parrots and ponds with koy fish and many types of duck (the Mandarin is especially beautiful) and the flowers and plants make it seem like you're in a park. The rooms are clean and spacious (but not a new or recently updated hotel) and very quiet. Our view was amazing! Rooms come with everything you need - fridge, coffee maker, iron board, safe, 2 TV's, hair dryer, sitting area, private balcony with seats. The 1st floor of the building seemed to be occupied by families that made use of the grassy area and the nice beach just steps away. The pool and hot tub area is clean and large enough for lots of people - you could fit at least 20 people in the hot tub and pool is large too. In this area is an arcade with video games etc. There is also a parkade and surface parking too - not sure if it free or if there is a cost. Overall this is a fantastic hotel located essentially across the street from Pacific Beach and only about 20-25 minute by taxi / Uber from the San Diego airport. I highly recommend this hotel and would return. The staff is very friendly with 5 stars to Haley!

Although the dated Polynesian-style decor and interiors could use an update, this three-pearl resort in San Diego's Pacific Beach area is a great family-friendly choice with an array of features and direct beach access. Set on pretty grounds filled with lush greenery, koi ponds, and exotic birds, the hotel offers two on-site eateries, a lovely outdoor pool and hot tub, as well as a spa, salon, and fitness center. There's even a beautiful classic boat that offers sunset cruises and family activities, transforming into a nightclub scene in the evenings. The 310 guest rooms are bland and could use a refresh, but they're spacious and outfitted with modern comforts like flat-screen TVs, Keurig machines, iHome docks, and free Wi-Fi, while studios and suites add kitchenettes and dining/living space. This beachfront hotel sits on pretty green grounds full of palm trees, lush plants, trim lawns, ponds with colorful fish, and even exotic birds flying about. The greenery creeps inside as well -- a rock waterfall and koi pond in the lobby is skirted in ferns, small palms, and tropical greenery sprouting here and there beneath the sloped roof. Though dated, it somehow works, bringing a kitschy dose of the natural world inside. The place has a Polynesian vibe, with bamboo and rattan furniture, wooden art hanging on the walls, and teak wood elements. Though many spaces could use an update -- like the drab carpeting and beige walls in the lobby and hallways -- the resort is a fine choice with a great location and a good selection of amenities, garnering terrific ratings and reviews from guests.

The hotel is situated across the road from a beach in San Diego’s Pacific Beach community. The immediate area is residential, with private homes and vacation rentals, but there are a variety of shops and restaurants within walking distance. Nearby attractions include Belmont Park (five-minute drive), SeaWorld San Diego (10-minute drive), San Diego Zoo (17-minute drive), Cabrillo National Monument, (22-minute drive), and Legoland California (35-minute drive). Downtown San Diego is about a 15-minute drive from here, while the historic Gaslamp Quarter is 20 minutes away. San Diego International Airport is about a 20-minute drive from the hotel, or around an hour by public transportation. The nearest bus stop is a two-minute walk away.

Rooms are plain and simple, and though they could use an update, they're clean and offer a decent set of amenities. Decor is dated, with beige walls and carpets, wooden furniture, and beds topped with striped bed runners. They're spacious, though, and have large glass doors that open onto private balconies or patios with views over the surroundings or onto the hotel's green grounds. Studios and suites have kitchenettes with four-burner stoves, ovens, microwaves, sinks, toasters, and full fridges, as well as living/dining space with blue couches, coffee tables, and chairs flanking small round tables. Standard amenities include flat-screen TVs, Keurig coffeemakers, mini-fridges (full fridges in units with kitchenettes), iHome docks, laptop safes, and free Wi-Fi. Bathrooms are equally bland decor-wise and quite small. They're outfitted with shower/tub combos, toiletries, and hairdryers; bathrobes can be found in the closets.

A Sunday Champagne brunch is also available, as is room service.
