Hemisphere was launched by Pendennis in 2011 as the world’s largest privately owned sailing catamaran, at 44.2m LOA. One of the most unique and imposing launches in our 35-year history, she turns heads due to her sheer scale, but equally impressive is the level of luxurious detail within her interior spaces and range of on-board facilities.

Pendennis partnered with leading multihull naval architects Van Peteghem Lauriot Prévost (VPLP) – designers of the 33rd America’s Cup winning multihull. Their innovative design formed the large cross-deck into their trademark ‘ailes de mouette’ which not only dispersed the up-draft wave motion, but also housed the large 12-person tender. One of the more challenging aspects of Hemisphere’s design were the bomb bay doors in the cross-deck, uniquely designed to enable the storage of the tender.

Following her launch, we were delighted to be able to exhibit Hemisphere at Monaco Yacht Show in 2011. Welcoming over 600 guests on board during the week, it was one of our busiest but most rewarding shows.

Right from the start, HEMISPHERE is in a league of her own. The world's largest luxury charter catamaran, HEMISPHERE boasts the ultimate fusion of extravagance and dynamic performance. This stunning 44.2m (145') sailing yacht commands unrivalled presence whether sailing or at anchor. HEMISPHERE will be available for charter in the stunning destinations of the Grenadines and Costa Rica until May 2024 and then in the idyllic islands of French Polynesia from August 2024.

Built by Pendennis and designed by renowned naval architects and multihull specialists, Van Peteghem Lauriot Prévost, her interior concept by Michael Leach Design can be described as "Polynesian Six Star Luxury": 15 varieties of stone, 18 different leathers, a soothing palette and blend of finishes including walnut soles, brushed oak and wengé, make HEMISPHERE a charter connoisseur's dream.

At 44.2m, her imposing size allows ample room for all the luxuries her charter guests could desire. A performance catamaran, HEMISPHERE is stable at sea as well and quick to respond when her 2 x 490hp Caterpillar engines are employed. HEMISPHERE accommodates up to 12 charter guests, and no two staterooms are identical. The two VIP masters are located forward of the main saloon, both with ensuite shower rooms. These staterooms can be adapted into a single master suite via a retractable joining door. In addition charter guests are accommodated in 2 double staterooms plus a twin stateroom with two pullman berths, all with ensuite shower rooms. The TV room on the main deck, boasts a Kaleidescape system where charter guests can choose from hundreds of movies and games. Wi-Fi and socket connections, Satcom and Cellular communications facilities, Satellite TV, iPod docking stations and MP3 connections are throughout the vessel. There's a 61" plasma TV in the lower saloon, 42" plasmas in the VIP staterooms and 32" LCD TVs in charter guest staerooms.

Outside, the flybridge affords massive deck space for recreation, and an inviting seating area surrounds the spa pool. The main aft deck features a fascinating oval-shaped glass table, etched with a map of the world's seven continents. The lavish formal dining area is located on the deck below.

As for water sports and toys, HEMISPHERE'S options are nearly limitless for charter guests. In addition to an 8.2m Scorpion tender with 315hp Yamaha inboard, HEMISPHERE comes equipped with a 16.4m (54ft) F&S custom sport fishing boat for game fishing, diving and guest excursions. There is a 4.5m Castoldi jet wave rider with Yanmar 125hp engine, full scuba diving gear for 12 guests, water skis, five water scooters, two Seabobs, wake boards, kneeboard, kayaks, paddle boards, tow toys, a 4.8m inflatable water trampoline and a 1m high 2.4m professional diving board!

She has a PADI-certified, Nitrox-capable dive centre for up to 12 guests and Captain Gavin is a qualified dive instructor with encyclopaedic knowledge and infectious passion for marine life in this divers' paradise. There is a 16.4m (53.8ft) sports fishing tender for exploring ashore and reaching special dive sites as well as tournament-standard fishing capabilities.

With a 16.6m (54.5ft) beam, her deck spaces are vast. From her flybridge jacuzzi and al fresco dining areas to her shaded spaces on the main deck aft and the sunbathing trampoline forward where you can watch dolphins play underway, she covers every base for relaxation and entertainment. Hemisphere is a 44.20m (145'0"ft) sailing catamaran yacht. A joint effort by Derecktor New York and Pendennis Shipyard, she was launched in 2011. This luxury vessel's sophisticated exterior design and engineering are the work of Van Peteghem Lauriot Prévost (VPLP). The yacht's interior has been designed by Michael Leach Design.

This luxury yacht has an aluminium hull, a beam of 16.60m (54'5"ft) and a 2.80m (9'2"ft) draft.

Hemisphere Accommodation Hemisphere offers accommodation for up to 12 guests in 5 suites. She is also capable of carrying up to 8 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed, luxury yacht experience.

Die Entstehungsgeschichte des Giganten verlief – die lange Bauzeit lässt es vermuten – nicht reibungslos. So unterzeichneten die Eigner den Bauvertrag ursprünglich mit der amerikanischen Derecktor-Werft, die im Jahr 2008 weit mit den Arbeiten am Superkat im Rückstand und zudem in schwerwiegende finanzielle Schwierigkeiten geraten war. „Wir mussten also ziemlich schnell eine neue Werft finden, die mit der gewaltigen Breite klarkommt und freie Kapazitäten hat“, erzählt „Hemisphere“-Kapitän Gavin Bladen, der als Eignervertreter und Projektmanager den gesamten Bau betreute.

Pendennis stellte das Van-Peteghem-Lauriot-Prévost-Design für tauchbegeisterte amerikanische Eigner fertig.

Nachdem 18 Werften angefragt wurden, fiel die Wahl schließlich auf Pendennis, und im Herbst 2009 begannen die Arbeiten in den Werfthallen im südenglischen Falmouth. 22 Monate später legte „Hemisphere“ ab, Kurs Monaco, um dort ihr Entree in die Welt der Superyachten zu feiern und sich dem Chartermarkt erstmals zu präsentieren.

The gateway to Norway’s fjords steeped in maritime history and tradition

Seated in watch over the North Sea on Norways' western coast, Bergen is Norway’s second largest city, but holds all the charisma of a small town. Colourful pointed roofs pepper the landscape, scaling the seven steep mountains surrounding the city, and the promise of an enticing treasure trove of Scandinavian heritage, charm and culture waits to be discovered. No yacht charter visit to Norway would be complete without exploring every lane, mountain and fjord Bergen has to offer. 

This enthralling city lies between two of the most famous and coveted fjords in Norway. Hardangerfjord carves its way northwest through steep mountains, and Sognefjord which reaches deep inland to the foot of the Jotunheimen mountains.

Norway’s fjords are considered one of the most exquisitely beautiful attractions in the world, and have been awarded a sought-after place on the UNESCO World Heritage List for their undeniable natural beauty. The scenery is truly stunning and Bergen is the perfect starting point for discovering such a unique and captivating part of the world.

There are penty of yacht charter itinarites available in the fjord region of Norway, but the fickle weather in this region calls for some careful planning of your fjord seafaring journey. Bryggen Hanseatic Wharf is perhaps one of the most iconic images of Bergen, where wooden houses line the eastern side of Vågen harbour. Bryggen has been on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage list since 1979, and is well deserving of such an accolade. Saturated with historical detail, the welcoming tearooms, bustling fish market, and mouth-watering restaurants provide a thorough immersion into this ancient hub of the city.

Once you’ve roamed the crooked lanes and buildings of Bryggen Wharf, call in at one of Bergen’s many museums and escape the city’s unpredictable weather, or take the opportunity to venture upwards on one of the forested peaks, which form the backdrop of the city. There are seven elevations in all, and plenty of options available for you to explore them on your own terms. Perhaps you’re feeling energetic and will decide to hike the peak of the larger Ulriken, or maybe you’ll decide to partake in the more relaxing Fløibanen funicular railway ride, and ascend Mount Fløyen. Rest assured once you’ve scaled your way to the top, you’ll be rewarded with one of the most magnificent panoramic views of the thriving city, sprawled out beneath you.

Bareboat yacht charter in Bergen is a unique, varied and interesting experience. Due to the large cruising ground and infinite sailing options available a west coast Norway yacht charter will appeal to yacht charter groups for many different reasons. Some like the breath taking scenery, island hopping and quaint villages whist other charterers enjoy the history sites that Norway has to offer. 

Stretching from Tananger and Stavanger, south of Bergen all the way up to Trondheim, the Norwegian coast has a unique geographical make up and follows a very distinct pattern. Outer fringes of sheltering islands of various sizes adorn this impressive coastline and a series of large sounds and fjords, formed millions of years ago by glaciers cut into the landscape to form horizontal waterways penetrating miles inland and forming some of the most spectacular natural scenery in the world.

SAILING IN THE FJORDS

Sailing in Norwegian Fjords

This is fjord Norway, a sailor’s paradise in the North Sea through deep and dramatic fjords lying in gorges cut between majestic mountains. The climbing mountains on either side of the fjords are steep and high, and continue as far below the water as above.

The headland of Statt divides the west coast into a southern section, starting in Stavanger, and a northern section, ending in Trondheim, where south and north Norway meet.

Bergen is Norway’s second largest city, and lies conveniently between two of the most famous and interesting fjords, Hardangerfjord, which goes under several names winding its way northwest between low-lying landscapes and steep impressive mountains, and Sognefjord, one of the world’s longest natural fjord.

Stavanger is situated in the southwest corner of a large bay of islands surrounded by fjords. Lysefjord, with its dramatic pulpit rock (usually seen in most of the Norway Fjords’ tourist literature) is as steep and dramatic as the larger longer fjords further north.

Fjord scenery is spectacular, but care and good planning is required for fjord sailing in many regions of Norway. There are small settlements, anchorages, and towns but due to some of the distances attention to detail when planning your passages is required. Winds can be unpredictable in the fjords and can occasionally funnel down through the fjords or from the mountains. 

Many people prefer to island hop on either side of the inner lead, and admire the dramatic scenery of the mountains and fjords from a distance whilst ensuring some spirited and varied sailing days and passages.

Harbours are not crowded and you will find only a few other yachts. The islands themselves are diverse and varied – rich in cultural and historical interest. The history of the area tells tales and shows evidence from the era of the Vikings and the small fishing villages and fishing way of life is still abundant today.

Travel connections are excellent to Bergen with many low cost carriers flying in from Europe, the UK and further afield. There are good internal and international flights, along with ferries, trains and long-distance buses.

Places to visit

There are many different interesting sites to visit on a yacht charter in Norway. From Bergen you will find a lot of well protected mooring facilities so that you can get on and off the boat as you wish. There are many small-town docks for you to tie up to and you will always find a space between anchoring and mooring.

After a lovely sail, dock at Bergen and take the Ulriken Cable Car high into the mountains or take a ride on Fløibanen Funicular to the top of Mount Fløyen and once at the top you will have the most magnificent views of Bergen.

Enjoy a walk in the Troll Forest, a film setting for the movie Frozen which is situated at the top. Take a picnic with you and enjoy sitting at the lake at Skomakerdiket on Mount Fløyen and canoe on the lake. There is a café and restaurant at the top if you prefer a full meal after a leisurely day sailing. These will be precious memories made with your family and friends in Norway.

The boats in Bergen are chartered out of 2 bases, Hjellestad Marina and Solheimsviken Marina.

Hjellestad Marina, Bergen

The base in Bergen is located 200 metres from the main Hjellestad Marina. The base is conveniently located just 6 km from the airport and so you will reach your yacht in approximately 10 minutes.

Bergen is an international airport with good flight connections around the world. 

The following airlines offer inland flights from Bergen to other parts of Norway.

AIRPORT TO AND FROM THE BASE

The base is located approximately 6km from Bergen airport.

• Taxi – the easiest way to reach the base is by taxi. There is a taxi stand outside the airport. 

Standard taxi for a maximum of 4 people will cost around €30 Euros.

• Rental cars several rental companies serve Bergen. There is parking space at the base. 

Provisioning

The nearest supermarket is at the Marina, about 200 meters away. Here you can purchase your boat provisions, fresh food and beer.

All wines and spirits must be purchased at the Vinmonopol (liquor store) which is located 10km away in Bergen city. There is also a “Vinmonopolet” at some harbours as you sail around the Islands. If you wish to purchase alcohol on your first stop this is very convenient with only a 4 hours sail on your first day to Bekkjarvik which is a nice harbour to visit and they have a “Vinmonopolet” located here.

There are a wide choice of restaurants and bars as you sail around the Bergen area that you could choose to spend a pleasant evening dinning in.

The nearest supermarket is Kiwi and it is approximately an 8 minute walk from the marina.  Here you can purchase your boat provisions, fresh food and beer.

All wines and spirits must be purchased at the Vinmonopolet (liquor store) which is located 5km away in Bergen city. There is also a Vinmonopolet at some harbours as you sail around the Islands. If you wish to purchase alcohol on your first stop this is very convenient with only a 4 hours sail on your first day to Bekkjarvik which is a nice harbour to visit and they have a Vinmonopolet located here.

And finally yield to the temptation of a visit to the banks of the historic fish market where you can enjoy smoked salmon and shrimp.

In a seaside town like this, there are many meeting places for lovers of sailing. There are Yacht clubs and Marinas both in the surrounding villages and the city center.
