Nigerian billionaire Femi Otedola is 60 years old and he is marking it large in a billionaire style.

The business mogul has hired the popular Christina O super yacht which reportedly costs $3m per week. According to DJ Cuppy, daughter of the Nigerian billionaire, her father has hired the yacht for three weeks.

In a post shared on her social media pages, Cuppy said her father hired the yacht because it once belonged to Greek billionaire, Aristotle Onassis, who is his role model.

Christina O is the world’s 59th largest yacht as of 2022. The superyacht comes at a hefty six-figure per week charter cost, has 17 staterooms, a 40-person dining room, hot tub, piano and a swimming pool that can be covered and converted to a dance floor.

With 37 crew members, the yacht will sail around the Mediterranean Sea for the three weeks.

Chase your dreams, you never know," she wrote. Otedola's family has already boarded the yacht. In the video shared by Cuppy, Nigerian singer, Mr Eazi, who is dating Temi Otodeloa, one of the daughters of the billionaire, was also spotted cruising with the family.

Nigerian billionaire Femi Otedola celebrates 60th birthday on $750,000-a-week yacht owned by Aristotle Onassis

Nigerian billionaire Femi Otedola is celebrating his 60th birthday on the French Riviera aboard the 99.13-meter-long Christina O Yacht, once owned by the late Greek shipping tycoon Aristotle Onassis.

Otedola’s daughter, Ifeoluwa, who goes by the moniker “DJ Cuppy” posted videos on her Instagram page on Wednesday showing the energy tycoon, his wife, and children celebrating at a private, intimate soiree off the Italy coast on the yacht, which has a rich history and has hosted some of the world’s most historic figures.

Femi Otedola is paying a pretty penny for chartering the yacht — an estimated $3 million. According to private sources who spoke to Billionaires.Africa, Otedola is renting the vessel for three and a half weeks at a cost of €750,000 ($745,000) per week plus extra taxes and handling fees, bringing the total expenses to €3 million ($2.97 million). He also bought out an earlier charterer for the right to use the yacht during his birthday week.

Plying the seas first as a World War II Canadian frigate and then as a private luxury vessel starting in 1954, the Christina O is a piece of floating history. Aristotle Onassis purchased the vessel in 1954 and named it after his daughter Christina. When Onassis married Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy, widow of the late U.S. President John F. Kennedy in 1968, the couple held their reception on the Christina O. The yacht would go on to host such famous guests as former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and Franklin Roosevelt, Jr.

With a line of chaise loungers, an alfresco dining and bar setup, a spacious promenade deck with an aft spa pool, and an impressive main deck, where the Onassis’ swimming pool sits with its renowned Minoan bull and vaulter mosaic alongside a dance floor, Christina O offers a plethora of options for lounging and socializing.

For Otedola, chartering the Christina O to commemorate his diamond jubilee is symbolic. In a past interview with Forbes magazine, Otedola revealed that the late Greek shipping tycoon had been his role model since he was 13. Otedola is also known to possess a large collection of Aristotle Onassis memorabilia such as books, movies, and documentaries at his homes in Nigeria, London, Dubai, Monte Carlo, and London. In modeling parts of his life after Onassis, in 2001 – at the age of 39, Otedola founded Seaforce Shipping Company Limited and built it into Nigeria’s largest indigenous shipping company. Between 2001 and 2007, Otedola was the largest private shipowner in Nigeria, owning a tanker fleet that included Mt. Sir Michael (named after his father), Mt. Lady Doja (named after his mother), Mt. Nana (named after his wife) and Mt. Zenon Conquest. He also served as the President of Nigeria Chambers of Shipping./

Otedola has since divested from his interests in the shipping business and is now channeling his energies towards fixing Nigeria’s electricity deficit. Today, he is the chairman of Geregu Power PLC, a power-generating company that made history in the month of October by being the first electricity generating company to list on the Nigerian Stock Exchange. Geregu Power has three STG5-2000E gas turbine generator units with a 435 MW installed capacity, and the company has been shortlisted by the Nigerian government to acquire a second plant currently owned by the government with a generating capacity of 729 MW. Otedola owns a 95-percent stake in the $650-million (market cap) company. He also owns an estimated six-percent stake in FBN Holdings, one of Nigeria’s largest financial services groups.

Aristotle Onassis also largely shaped Otedola’s outlook on philanthropy. The Greek businessman, who left instructions in his handwritten will for the establishment of a charitable foundation in memory of his son – the Alexander S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation – also inspired Otedola in his charitable givings. Otedola, one of Nigeria’s most generous philanthropists, has given away more money to philanthropic causes than any other Nigerian billionaire, except Aliko Dangote, over the last twenty years. In November 2019, during an event in Abuja that was graced by Nigerian Vice President Yemi Osinbajo , Femi Otedola donated a record NGN 5 billion – roughly $14 million at the time – to Save the Children, a UK non-governmental organization. The funds have gone a long way towards improving the lives of destitute children who have victims of a lingering humanitarian crisis in Nigeria’s northeast region. In November last year, he was invited by Save the Children to join the prestigious group as the organisation’s vice president, in recognition of his philanthropic efforts to better the lives of children in Nigeria. In 2020, he also donated $2.27 million toward COVID-19 relief efforts and last year he built and donated a $4.7 million complex to the Engineering department of Lagos-based Augustine University. He is also the Chancellor of Augustine University, and has sponsored scholarships for Nigerian students for two decades.

In 2019 when local media inquired about his motivation for donating the NGN 5 billion to Save the Children U.K, Otedola said : “In my life, in my journey, I have taken the risk, I have done the chase, I have enjoyed the thrill, I have achieved success and recognition. What next? You give it back. A lot of people think when they die they’ll take their money with them. We’ll see.”

Otedola has also gained acclaim for funding the exorbitant medical bills of some of Nigeria’s most prominent personalities. In 2019 he paid over $50,000 for the treatment of former Super Eagles captain and coach Christian Chukwu in London. Otedola also paid over €130,000 to save star actor Victor Olaotan at a hospital in Turkey, and footed the bills of Reggae super star Majek Fashek when he was battling neck and throat cancer at a London hospital. Other people who have benefited from Otedola’s generosity in a similar regard include Super Eagles former goal keeper Peter Fregene, award-winning actor Sadiq Daba, Professor Ini Ebong and celebrated romance writer Kayode Ajala among many others. On various occasions, some of the recipients of Otedola’s generosity were unable to reach him to thank him for his generosity and thereby opted to make videos which they put up in the public domain with the hopes that he would see them.

Born on Nov. 4, 1962 to the family of Sir Michael Otedola, one-time governor of Lagos State, Femi Otedola worked for his father’s Impact printing press in the early nineties and then went on to establish Centerforce Limited, a finance and investment company.

In 1999, he founded Zenon Petroleum & Gas Limited, an indigenous company that engaged in the procurement, storage, marketing, and distribution of petroleum products. At some point, Zenon Petroleum controlled more than 90% of the diesel supply business in Nigeria for nine years. In 2007, he acquired a controlling stake in the government-owned African Petroleum Plc which operated gas stations across the country. He grew the company into one of the largest publicly-traded downstream oil companies in Sub-Saharan Africa at the time. At some point, he was also one of the largest private owners of real estate in the swanky Victoria Island and Ikoyi neighborhoods in Lagos and owned some of the most prestigious commercial landmark properties in Abuja.

In 2008, his stake in African Petroleum was worth over $1.2 billion, and that same year, he became the second Nigerian, after Aliko Dangote, to be included in Forbes magazine’s annual ranking of the world’s billionaires. At 46, he was the youngest African billionaire on the Forbes list at the time. Otedola subsequently renamed his company Forte Oil (FO) to match his name, and in 2013, he led the company to acquire a 414-gigawatt power-generating plant from the Nigerian government during a government-led privatization round. In 2018, he unbundled the power assets of Forte Oil and created a separate company, Geregu Power, which he controls today. That same year, he sold off Forte Oil’s downstream businesses for hundreds of millions of dollars to a leading oil distribution firm in Nigeria.

At 60, Femi Otedola is one of Nigeria’s most influential power players. In 2010, he played a crucial role in encouraging the then Vice-President Goodluck Jonathan to assume the presidency when President Umaru Yar’Adua became incapacitated. He still remains one of the more colorful personalities in Nigerian business and social circles. And that popularity spills into social media. In 2020, he ‘broke the internet’ in Nigerian media when his daughter, DJ Cuppy, announced that he had purchased a Ferrari Portofino for each of his three daughters. With 1.4 million followers on Instagram, Otedola is social media royalty in Nigeria, and he gives quite a show: From a video where he is dancing with his daughters , to another where he is dancing with his wife during her birthday celebrations in London, to a picture where he is hosting his daughter and her fiance at his Dubai villa – and yet another where he is just chilling in Monte Carlo, where he also has a home – every single post he makes on Instagram goes viral and generates buzz in Nigerian media circles, and gets Nigerians young and old, longing for the good life.

In a viral video, Otedola was spotted with his family and his son-in-law, Mr Eazi, greeting the crew members of a super luxury yacht popularly known as Christiana O, owned by Aristotle Onassis.

According to reports, the rented yacht would be sailing for three weeks with the billionaire alongside his family and friends.

The super yacht, which happens to be the biggest in the world, belongs to one of Otedola’s childhood friends, the late Greek shipping tycoon, Aristotle Onassis, who was once regarded as the richest man in the world.

Otedola is one of the richest men in Nigeria whose wealth comes from the importation of oil. He is also the founder of Zenon Petroleum and Gas Ltd, and the owner of several other businesses across shipping, real estate, and finance.

According to an online report, as of January 2022, it costs €620,000 (about N470 million) to charter the yacht for a week, including tax.

Christina O offers a luxury voyage. Its 38 crew members include two spa therapists. The ship has hosted great presidents and ministers such as John Kennedy and Sir Winston Churchill, as well as celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe and Frank Sinatra.

Otedola paid nearly a billion Naira (₦906 million) to sail the luxury Christina O yacht with his family for three weeks.

At 325ft long, legendary private yacht, ‘Christina O’, is the 59th largest yacht in the world as of 2022.

The Superyacht, which has 37 crew members on board, can accommodate 34 guests in 17 cabins.

Amenities on board includes Mosaic swimming pool, a cinema, a glass-panelled gymnasium and a music room.

Billionaire businessman, Femi Otedola, is set to celebrate his 60th birthday with family and friends aboard legendary private luxury motor yacht, ‘ Christina O ’.

The oil mogul, who turns 60 on Friday, November 4, posted pictures of himself and family being welcomed aboard the yacht by the crew.

“Welcome Aboard the Christina! Are you ready for #FO60 …F.Ote💲”, Femi Otedola captioned a post on his Instagram page.

According to the report, the super yacht will sail for three weeks on the Mediterranean Sea with 37 crew members on board.

The legendary Superyacht is the former vessel of billionaire shipping tycoon, Aristotle Onassis. At 99.13 metres (325ft) long, she is the 59th largest yacht in the world as of 2022.

In a statement, Mr Otedola said Aristotle Onassis has been his role model since he was 13 years old.

“As I mark my 60th birthday in the coming days, I am grateful to God for his continuous blessings and the wisdom he has continued to bestow upon me.

“The days leading up to this milestone have been marked by deep reflection, and I’m looking forward to sailing the CHRISTINA O with my family for the next three weeks”.

Christina O charters for $687,000 (approximately ₦302 Million in Naira) per week plus expenses, according to YachtCharterFleet .

The superyacht can accommodate 34 guests in 17 cabins. Amenities on board includes Mosaic swimming pool that turns into dance floor, a cinema, a glass-panelled gymnasium and a music room.

Billionaire Femi Otedola has reportedly spent €3 million to rent Aristotle Onassis’ Christina O super luxury yacht ahead of his 60th birthday.

The chairman of Geregu rented the yacht belonging to one of his childhood idols, the late Greek shipping magnate, Aristotle Onassis, who was once regarded as the richest man in the world.

Otedola clocks 60 on Friday, November 4.

The businessman and his family were filmed entering the yacht on Wednesday afternoon. His son-in-law to be, Mr Eazi, also joined them.

Billionaire businessman Femi Otedola, spends $3million which is over N2.2billion to rent Aristotle Onassis Christina O Super luxury yacht for his 60th birthday.

In celebration of his upcoming 60th birthday on November 7, Femi Otedola rented the super yacht belonging to Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis.

Otedola rented the yacht to celebrate his 60th birthday with his family and friends. The yacht will sail for three weeks.

The yacht has 37 crew on-board. Otedola and his family, including his son-in-law singer Mr Eaziwere film boarding the yacht.

Moscow City Day Means Happy Revelers in Russia

Celebrating the 872nd Birthday of their Capital City, Moscow

Robots danced in the street ahead of me.

Their football-like helmets topped broad white shoulder pads, distinguishing the dance troupe from Moscow’s cityscape behind them.

They performed in front of a semi-circle audience that had materialized a few minutes before from a crowd of thousands meandering down Tverskaya Street in the heart of the city.

Their blue jumpsuits swiveled and dipped in time to the electronic music blaring from speakers overhead.

Celebrating the City’s Birthday

Known as Moscow City Day , the annual late-summer festival celebrates Moscow’s birthday on the second weekend of September each year.

It features free events across the city of nearly 12 million people – open-air music, theater performances, kids events, food, classes, circus acts and sporting exhibitions such as BMX jumps.

The theme for this year’s City Day, which this year recognized Moscow’s 872nd birthday, honored the VDNH, an exhibition center created in Moscow under Soviet rule in the 1930s. The center turns 80 this year.

Up and Down Tverskaya Street

Up and down Tverskaya Street , which was closed to cars and guarded by soldiers standing at checkpoints, four distinct areas recognized different aspects of the VDNH center, which is situated elsewhere in Moscow.

The first area focused on the park’s early years (it was created by the state to host annual trade shows, inspired by the world’s fair as it was in the early 1900s).

The second area of Tverskaya Street focused on a number of pavilions in the VDNH museum that were built to represent former Soviet republics and Russia’s largest space museum, the Cosmos Pavilion.

The third area VDNH’s role as a meeting place in Moscow and the fourth area featured sporting events.

Remnants of the Soviet Union

For an American traveler like myself who hails from a rural town in the western part of Massachusetts , wandering through Moscow’s City Day festival was an experience, unlike anything I’d ever encountered before.

Russian culture, dripping with remnants of the Soviet Union, is different than that of America.

Dance troupes, garbed in absurd costumes – sharks, penguins, the robots – broke out in flash-mob style dances. Musicians crooned and rocked from temporary stages, singing state-sanctioned Russian anthems.

Further down the street, children climbed a rock wall as stilted performers dressed as birds stepped awkwardly about. A brass band blared in front of a large screen playing a video loop of idyllic scenes of Moscow.

Above, two tightrope walkers, backlit against a bright blue sky, tiptoed over the street five stories up. Onlookers around me craned their heads and shielded their eyes, trying to get a better look.

One slipped and fell, swinging down into a harness. The crowd gasped.

The Moscow City Day is organized annually by Moscow Seasons , which hosts various festivals and events in the city throughout the year including a holiday-themed festival around Christmastime.

In comparison to other European cities like St. Petersburg to the north, Moscow doesn’t have the same architectural beauty or thriving tourism base, according to my guide.

Yes, there are incredible buildings in Moscow – some are breathtaking, even – such as St. Basil’s Cathedral, the Kremlin and the Seven Sisters skyscrapers, which were designed in the Stalinist style during Soviet rule.

At the same time, it’s a utilitarian city situated along Moskva River that covers an area of more than 400 square miles. It’s a massive city that can be described as imposing rather than charming.

Because of that, my guide noted that it’s often overlooked by tourists looking for a new travel destination. The festivals are a way to bring people into the city.

I found this to be the case. Moscow City Day’s performances, while strictly choreographed, provided a glimpse into Moscow’s current art scene and into Russian history at large.

Elsewhere, at the VDNH center itself (which was converted into a museum after the Soviet Union fell in 1991), the nation’s history is prominently on display. Symbolism remnant from the Soviet era is plainly evident throughout the center’s 800 acres.

Leading into the park, a hammer and sickle emblem can be seen at the top of a massive pavilion. Five-pointed stars are at the top of posts leading up to a massive white building, which is framed by red flowers.

A fountain nearby features gold-plated statues of women, one for each of the regions of the former Soviet empire.

Ornate buildings, one for each of the same – Kyrgyzstan , Belarus, Uzbekistan, Karelia, Ukraine, North Caucasus, Turkmenistan and Armenia (Georgia’s building was destroyed) – are situated around a sprawling square.

At the other end, Russia’s national cosmonautics museum was situated in an industrial-looking building behind a preserved rocket.

Inside, I learned about the space race from Russia’s perspective – successfully putting the first person in space, then failing to get an astronaut to the moon.

Along with its history, Moscow’s art scene (both past and present) was also on display at the festival.

While many of the dance troupes felt unauthentic and contemporary, other performances were influenced by something deeper – Russian tradition.

I experienced this full-force on the last day of my stay in Moscow at Tchaikovsky Concert Hall, where I attended a concert directed by Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov.

Typically, I’m not one who seeks out opera or classical music. But for two hours I listened in rapture to a baritone, identified by his penguin coattails and rich voice, as he sang to a crowd of hundreds.

Behind him, a choir dressed in colorful traditional Russian clothing sang above a 24-piece band, playing mostly string instruments and directed by Rimsky-Korsakov.

At the end of one song, the baritone ended with such enthusiasm that he almost fell over – catching himself at the last minute.

“Bravo!” came calls from the audience. “Bravo!”

Women, clutching large bouquets of long stem red roses, practically threw them at his feet.

He accepted their gifts with grace and a wide smile, obviously enjoying himself in the moment.

I left Russia on that note – remembering the baritone and his passion for life.
