PLAN B Yacht – Luxuriant $100M Superyacht

The PLAN B yacht is Patokh Chodiev’s $100 million superyacht that was delivered by German shipbuilders Abu Dhabi Mar in 2012.

Alberto Pinto drew up the classic interior design, and the exterior was designed by Focus Yacht Design. The 73m yacht offers a luxurious yachting experience.

Alberto Pinto designed the interior of the PLAN B yacht. She has eight cabins that can accommodate 16 guests, one master, three VIPs, one double, and three twins.

There are ten cabins for 22 crew members. She features a massive beach club that creates an inside/outside area on the water for guests to enjoy.

Behind the helipad, which serves as an excellent spot to view the surrounding environment, is a sundeck jacuzzi surrounded by sun pads, sun loungers, and a bar.

A corridor connects the beach club to a spa and steam room.

The main deck aft has a partially shaded area by the upper deck overhang and with the option for additional shade with a canopy to suit guests.

There are plenty of interior design features that are excellent for relaxation and socialization among guests.

The master suite is on the main deck and is a large room with a private terrace, en-suite bathroom, a lounge, and a study.

The sundeck has an indoor gym space that guests can use while the boat is underway. The gym features spectacular views with floor-to-ceiling windows.

The exterior was designed by Focus Yacht Design and built by Abu Dhabi Mar, a prestigious German shipbuilder.

The ADM shipyard, Nobiskrug, is on the Elder River in Germany and is known for building custom-made and cutting-edge luxury yachts. ADM was formerly known as HDW-Kiel.

The PLAN B yacht was delivered in 2012, with an exterior consisting of a striking steel hull and white aluminum superstructure. PLAN B was recently refitted in 2020.

With her 2 MTU engines, The PLAN B yacht can reach a top speed of 17kn. She has a volume of 1773 tons and costs $5-$10 million per annum to run.

At her cruising speed of 13 knots, she can cover 4000 nautical miles. She has a total length of 73m, a draft of 3.6m, and a 12m beam.

She has a Lloyds Classification, with advanced Zero Speed stabilizers for maximum comfort onboard while at anchor.

50m converted naval ship Plan B sold

The 50-metre explorer yacht Plan B has been sold by Merle A. Wood of Merle Wood & Associates representing the buyer and Will Christie of Christie Yachts representing the seller. 

Plan B started life in the Southern Hemisphere, built as an Australian naval ship in 1973 and later transformed into a full-fledged explorer. Built in steel and Lloyd's classed, she has cruised extensively in her lifetime to the Arctic Circle, Patagonia, New Zealand, Galapagos Islands, Easter Islands and Myanmar.

She still retains a military-style profile with a gunmetal grey hull and superstructure and has benefited from significant upgrades under her current ownership between 2018 and 2023. 

The main deck aft serves as the primary gathering area for guests with a shaded dining table for ten, a sit-up bar and a configuration of sofas, coffee tables and chairs. At night, the space transforms into a cinema under the stars with a 150-inch screen and a DLP HD Projector.

A secondary exterior lounge can be found on the bridge deck above, this time offering an indoor-outdoor dining space with retractable floor-to-ceiling windows that can be closed for protection in inclement weather or opened to allow for a sea breeze to accompany diners. This winter garden is finished with intricate wooden detailing and animal print furnishings, also seen throughout the vessel.

Plan B's explorer credentials are evident, not only in her rugged appearance but her Airbus H145 helicopter found stowed on the sundeck. The reinforced helicopter deck has refuelling capabilities for longer passages, while a bulwark separates helicopter operations from a spa pool flanked by sun pads forward. 

Accommodation is for 12 guests across five cabins, including a master suite on the main deck with two walk-in wardrobes and his and hers bathrooms to port and starboard. The remaining four guest cabins are found on the lower deck with further provision for a crew of 16. In total, Plan B offers 746 GT across her five decks.

Up to three tenders can be stored on the foredeck, alongside a pair of Jet Skis, and are launched and recovered by a heavy-duty davit crane. On the lower deck is storage for a fourth tender, launched on the port side via a beam crane, and other toys, such as the slide that is secured to the helipad.

Twin Caterpillar diesel engines deliver a top speed of 12 knots and a maximum range of 6,000 nautical miles at 10 knots. All major machinery and systems have been upgraded including new generators and a full rebuild of the main engines completed in 2018/19. Four Quantum zero speed stabilisers keep her steady, added as part of a 2005 refit.

Plan B  was last asking $14,900,000.

Luxury motor yacht PLAN b was built in 1973 by the Australian Navy. She was refitted in 2004, 2011 and then 2014 and underwent an extensive transformation from a military explorer vessel into a superb luxury superyacht. At 50m LOA and with a beam of 10m, this stunning yacht provides abundant exterior and interior living spaces. Her interior design is a work of Tracey Barnier-Willis Design and features decor inspired by travelling around the world.

The main salon of motor yacht Plan B is spacious and inviting. Some opulent decor elements, such as some exotic fur, skins, Louis Vuitton travel collection lavish trunks and styling furnishing, create a truly opulent ambiance, Motor yacht Plan B has a "Great room" perfect for social gathering, unwinding and entertainment. There are also a spacious lounge, beautiful dining area and study.

Located on the main deck, the owner's master suite is almost a full-beam size and boasts large closets, desks and seating. Guest accommodation comprises of two grand and two smaller double cabins. Plan B accommodate 12 guests in total, assisted by 14 crew members.

PLAN B Specifications

Exterior spaces of the main deck are enormous and can carry a hundred guests on a special occasion held aboard Plan B. There is plenty of space for a romantic dinner for 2 or a vibrant celebration for 25. Durning the day the main deck will become the centre of sunbathing and entertainment, while at night it will transfer into a movie theatre or a night club.

The Jacuzzi deck boasts a fully equipped gym, a massive Jacuzzi and sun loungers. The Upper aft deck features a fabulous indoor/outdoor flow. The upper deck lounge has comfortable seating and a dining table. An alfresco dining option for 20 people is also available on the upper deck.

Yacht Accommodation

The accommodation offer comfortable sleeping for 10 people in five private staterooms - 1 Super King, 3 King, 1 King which converts to a to twin. The master cabin (super king) is located on the main deck. It has a spacious living area including a lounge, office, dressing room and ensuite bathroom with his and her shower units. The second king stateroom has an ensuite with a shower and bath unit. The three final staterooms also have private ensuites with only a shower. All cabins have CD Portable flat screen TV's and DVD's.

Nautical equipment and facilities include: Stabilizers, water maker, Water Capacity 5,284 gal, Fuel Capacity 35,667 gal, air conditioning, fresh deck water, swimming platform and ladder, full laundry facilities. COMMUNICATION equipment includes: SatCom, fax, copier, printer, computer and email. LEISURE EQUIPMENT includes: A Waverunner, snorkel gear, kayaks, canoe, fishing equipment including light fishing trolling & casting, 12 sets of scuba gear, compressor, water skis, windsurfer, sailing yacht, bikes, scooters and a gym room. Cyprus's Plan B: What will happen if Moscow won't foot the bill?

Cypriot officials have now lingered in Moscow for a second day of talks regarding a potential bailout deal. Meanwhile, the government is also looking into internal options to drum up funds.

The clock in Nicosia is ticking a lot louder: Tiny Cyprus has four days to come up with about €6 billion ($7.5 billion) or lose its current lender of last resort, the European Central Bank (ECB).

Tensions and emotions are high after ECB officials declared on Thursday that Cyprus must guarantee a €10 billion ($13 billion) bailout by Monday or forfeit and presumably go into default, with unknown consequences for the eurozone economy and beyond.

Cypriot officials are scrambling to conjure new sources of revenue – a so-called Plan B – including a look at pension fund leveraging and sales of offshore gas exploration prospects. The finance minister and energy minister have now lingered in Moscow for a second day of talks regarding a potential bailout deal with Russia. 

Cypriot banks will remain closed this weekend even as bankers there worry about huge outflows of capital next week if some kind of deal, whether with the European Union or Moscow, is not in the offing. (Reportedly Russian officials yesterday told their EU counterparts they would not add to a current €2.5 billion ($3 billion) loan to Cyprus.) 

Cypriot lawmakers vowed Thursday that they would not raise again the idea of a levy or tax on private accounts. However, EU and ECB authorities continue to state that available resources are so limited that the Cyprus parliament will need to revisit the issue, perhaps in a smaller percentage.

Meanwhile, Reuters notes, EU officials  continue to up the ante and put pressure on Cyprus . "I cannot rule out a Cyprus insolvency," Austrian Finance Minister Maria Fekter told the newspaper Oesterreich. "A euro exit would not achieve anything. Cyprus must act now." 

The ECB hard deadline comes a day after Cypriot lawmakers rejected the controversial EU terms of the bailout, engineered mysteriously last week, which require a “tax” allowing Cypriot authorities to reach into the accounts of private bank deposits and withdraw some 10 percent of funds in accounts over €100,000 ($130,000) and about 7 percent in accounts under that figure.

The idea of such a tax brings mingled perplexity and outrage in many parts of the world, but especially in Russia, which uses Cyprus as an offshore tax haven.

The Washington Post calculates  that:

Deposits in Cyprus’s banks were seven times the size of its economy at the end of 2012, an unusual situation fostered by low taxes and reputation for lax regulation. Many European policymakers suspect it is a hub for Russian money laundering. Cypriot banks hold $88 billion in deposits, of which $49 billion is in the form of deposits over $129,000, according to analysts’ estimates. 

The Christian Science Monitor reports that Moscow is playing “hardball” with the Cypriot finance minister in order to protect its massive stake in Cyprus' banking system.

According to official Russian figures, more than $114 billion has flowed into Russia since 2007 from Cyprus, almost all of it in the form of dividends paid by Cyprus-registered holding companies. Big Russian firms, including most metals giants, the state-owned banks Sberbank and VTB, and the independent gas producer Novatek all have important holdings in Cyprus. "The price of crisis in Cyprus is very high for Russia," says Igor Nikolayev, director of strategic planning for one of Russia's leading auditing firms.

About a year ago, I happened upon this statement about the Monitor in the Harvard Business Review – under the charming heading of “do things that don’t interest you”:

“Many things that end up” being meaningful, writes social scientist Joseph Grenny, “have come from conference workshops, articles, or online videos that began as a chore and ended with an insight. My work in Kenya, for example, was heavily influenced by a Christian Science Monitor article I had forced myself to read 10 years earlier. Sometimes, we call things ‘boring’ simply because they lie outside the box we are currently in.”

If you were to come up with a punchline to a joke about the Monitor, that would probably be it. We’re seen as being global, fair, insightful, and perhaps a bit too earnest. We’re the bran muffin of journalism.

But you know what? We change lives. And I’m going to argue that we change lives precisely because we force open that too-small box that most human beings think they live in.

The Monitor is a peculiar little publication that’s hard for the world to figure out. We’re run by a church, but we’re not only for church members and we’re not about converting people. We’re known as being fair even as the world becomes as polarized as at any time since the newspaper’s founding in 1908.

We have a mission beyond circulation, we want to bridge divides. We’re about kicking down the door of thought everywhere and saying, “You are bigger and more capable than you realize. And we can prove it.”
