Ships have captured the public imagination for thousands of years as a symbol of power, elegance and affluence. Passing through history as worthy subjects of artist and poets, capturing the essence of a regatta fleet or the details of the most opulent and innovative mega yacht of recent times is as integral as ever. The yachting industry is filled with talented photographers and filmmakers, and here we highlight 10 prolific names who have shot prestigious yachts and events.

Jeff Brown – Breed Media

Notable superyacht shots: Savannah , Galactica Star , Ann G .

Best known in recent times for photographing the interior and exterior of Feadship’s 2014 superyacht Savannah, Jeff Brown captures the whimsical and abstract elements of modern design while retaining the realism that often disappears in vibrant environments and under dramatic lighting.

In 2003 Jeff Brown co-founded Superyacht Media, and his expertise combined with that of his team catapulted the company into a leading position in media content for superyacht-related marketing worldwide. His background in design has awarded him an uncommon perspective when it comes to selecting the focus of his photography and videos, which in turn has resulted in over 100 magazine covers in the last seven years alone and repeat business from builders.

Six deck luxury yacht Invictus by Delta Marine from 2013 and Irimari by  Sunrise Yachts from 2014 have also prospered from Jeff Brown’s ability to see behind the finished product to pinpoint the detail from the designers, from the colour choice for the en-suite mosaic to the grooves amidst the gloss of the formal dining table.

Kurt Arrigo – Kurt Arrigo Photography

Maltese-born Kurt Arrigo is renowned for his superyacht regatta photography, although his diverse portfolio also includes superstars, fashion shoots and underwater photography of various subjects. There is a strong attachment to water in all his works and a nostalgic touch that turns modern events into instant classics. With an eye for the moment, Kurt captures fleeting scenes of celebrations and crowds in motion.

Contrast is a particularly strong element in the regatta pictures, balancing human fervour against a cool white deck, or the brand new fleet of superyachts sailing past ancient Mediterranean buildings. Kurt Arrigo also photographs the Rolex sponsored events .

Superyachts Ester III , G alactica SuperNova   and Solandge have all benefitted from Guillaume Plisson’s playful touch with angled overhead shots and subtle lighting against moody skies.

The World’s Most Beautiful Yacht Clubs

These waterfront landmarks define classic maritime style—and attract some of the most magnificent ships at sea.

Beautiful yacht clubs in New England

The glamour of these yacht clubs is matched only by their intriguing histories. From Sardinia to Singapore, Newport to the Bahamas, these high-style sailing outposts carry on the traditions of their founders (with the oldest dating back to the mid-19th century). Not a member? Here's a peek at the super exclusive spots.

New York Yacht Club

New York Yacht Club Model Room

New York Yacht Club—Harbour Court

New York Yacht Club

The New York Yacht Club acquired Harbour Court in Newport, Rhode Island, in 1987. The grand, Norman-style mansion was built in 1906 and sits on eight acres overlooking Brenton's Cove. The connection between the New York Yacht Club and Newport dates back to the club's founding in the mid-1800s, when the NYYC founders sailed from the Battery to Newport on their inaugural summer cruise.

Royal Yacht Squadron

Black tie and boat shoes are de rigueur for the happy few who crack the ranks of the ultra-exclusive, 200-year-old Royal Yacht Squadron , headquartered in a 16th-century castle in England's Isle of Wight. Today, it’s best known as the heart of the legendary Cowes Week regatta , when thousands of sailors and revelers alike gather to await the firing of the club’s brass cannons.

Detroit Yacht Club

In its heyday, Dodges and Fords were among the tony patrons of this 1920s Mediterranean Revival building. They danced in the grand timbered ballroom and did laps in the indoor pool, which was lined with iridescent, Detroit-made Pewabic Pottery tiles. But as the fortunes of the city declined, so, too, did membership and maintenance at the Detroit Yacht Club . But a turnaround began in 2011, returning much of the building’s original grandeur, as well as a younger, more diverse membership, many of whom live in what is now an equally resurgent downtown Detroit.

Yacht Club Costa Smeralda

American architect Peter Marino redesigned this glamorous Italian outpost in the early 2000s, turning it into a deeply seductive hub in keeping with the yachts that fill the marina every summer. But at Yacht Club Costa Smeralda , it’s not all Cristal and caviar. In 2017, alarmed by the ubiquity of pollutants in local waters, club leaders launched a strict code of conduct for eliminating single-use plastics and reducing energy consumption.

Republic of Singapore Yacht Club

Winner of a Singapore Institute of Architects Architectural Design Award for its modern incarnation (a former clubhouse was lost to a massive container terminal), Asia’s oldest yacht club is replete with cultural pride of place. Republic of Singapore Yacht Club is now marked by a soaring, serrated roofline that pays homage to the traditional buildings of the Minangkabau, an Indonesian ethnic group.

Epping Forest Yacht & Country Club

This 58-acre Jacksonville, Florida, estate was built in 1926 by chemicals pioneer Alfred I. duPont and his wife, Jessie Ball duPont. Located on the widest point of the St. John’s River and shaded by grand oak trees, the mansion was built as a sprawling home base for duPont’s favorite pastime, yachting (on his beloved Nenemoosha ), and quickly became an illustrious meeting place for fellow industrial giants and heads of state of the day, including the Vanderbilts, Carnegies, and the Goulds. The building blends Gothic and Baroque architectural elements with a sprawling Spanish Renaissance form. Today, the romantic mansion has been completely restored and serves as home to the Epping Forest Yacht & Country Club .

Lyford Cay Club

Slim Aarons photographed the Lyford Cay Club in 1975, and the uber-exclusive Bahamian landmark hasn't lost an ounce of its allure since. Past the 74-slip yacht harbor and white-sand beaches is an impeccably decorated clubhouse famously overhauled in the early 2000s by Tom Scheerer. The nearly 20-foot tall painted palms in the drawing room (seen at left) have become iconic symbols of the billionaires' outpost. For more photos, check out this story published by Town & Country .

Yacht Club de Monaco

This French Riviera hotspot is as much a maritime playground as it is a proper yacht club. Reimagined by architects Foster + Partners in 2014, Yacht Club de Monaco is designed to resemble a ship, with "decks" offering expansive views of the Mediterranean and the Grand Prix race track. Founded in 1953 by Prince Rainier III of Monaco, it is now presided over by Prince Albert.

Mastering the Waves of Luxury: A Guide to Buying Prestigious Yachts

prestigious yachting photos

Welcome to the Prestigious World of Yachting

Buying a yacht isn’t just about getting a boat; it’s about buying into a lifestyle that many dream about. Picture this: you, out on the open water, with the freedom to go wherever you want, whenever you want. It’s about luxury and relaxation, sure, but it’s also about the adventure and the freedom that comes with owning such an impressive vessel. This guide will help introduce you to the world of prestigious yachting—a world where craftsmanship, style, and the open sea come together.

Choosing your yacht is a big decision. It’s not just about picking something that looks good; it’s about finding a yacht that fits your lifestyle. Do you imagine hosting big parties, or are you looking for something more intimate? Are you all about speed and performance, or is comfort more your style? It’s these questions and more that you’ll need to consider.

What Makes a Yacht Prestigious?

So, what sets a prestigious yacht apart from the rest? It’s not just about the price tag or the brand name. Here’s what you need to look out for:

  • Design and Personal Touch : The best yachts are the ones that allow you to make them yours. Customization options let you tailor everything to suit your taste and needs, from the layout down to the materials used inside.
  • Top-Notch Tech : We’re talking about the latest in navigation to make sure you can explore with confidence, as well as all the gadgets and comforts that make life aboard a breeze.
  • A Cut Above the Rest : Prestigious yachts are all about exclusivity. Owning one should make you feel like you’re part of an exclusive club, where luxury and style are the orders of the day.
  • Smooth Sailing : Above all, a great yacht offers an unbeatable ride. Whether you’re powering through the waves or cruising gently along, it should all feel effortless.

Your Guide to Buying a Yacht

Ready to start looking for your own yacht? Here are some tips to help you find the perfect one:

  • Know What You Want : Think about how you plan to use your yacht. This will help narrow down your choices and find a yacht that’s right for you.
  • Do Your Homework : There’s a lot to learn before you buy a yacht. Take your time to research and don’t be afraid to ask lots of questions.
  • Try Before You Buy : If possible, get out on the water for a test sail. It’s the best way to see if a yacht is right for you.
  • Get the Details Right : Buying a yacht involves a lot of paperwork and legal stuff. Make sure you’ve got all this sorted before you make anything official.

When it comes down to making your yacht-owning dream a reality, Fly Yachts is here to help. We know yachts, and we’re here to make sure you find the perfect match. So when you’re ready, give us a shout. Let’s make it happen.

5 Exclusive Yacht Clubs Around the World

When it comes to exclusivity, few institutions come close to matching the prestige of the yacht club. It can take years to get on the waiting list for some of the most exclusive yacht clubs on this list. Simply owning a yacht is only a small part of the yachting lifestyle, however; partaking in the vibrant culture of the club community is what the sport is all about. Here are some of the most prestigious yacht clubs from around the globe.

Exclusive yacht club Monaco harbor

New York Yacht Club, New York, United States

New York Prestigious Yacht Club

The combined efforts of nine sportsmen resulted in the creation of the New York Yacht Club in 1844, one of the most prestigious yacht clubs in the United States. Centuries later, the NYYC’s primary clubhouse in midtown Manhattan has come to represent a quintessential New York landmark. Being a member of this club means belonging to one of the most exclusive yacht clubs in the world. Aside from being nominated by an existing member, a candidate must be able to prove a significant achievement in the sport. Notable members include J.P. Morgan and Harold Stirling Vanderbilt, as well as Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Royal Yacht Squadron, Isle of Wight, United Kingdom

No list of exclusive yacht clubs would be complete without a mention of the Royal Yacht Squadron . With a rich history that dates back to the year 1815 as well as a castle for a clubhouse, the RYS is one of the oldest and grandest yacht clubs in history. It’s impossible to buy a membership; you must be voted in by a current member and approved by secret ballot. Prior to 2013, only men were allowed to be members—a restriction so exclusive that the Queen was once denied entry.

Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club, Hong Kong, China

Hong Kong Lifestyle

Home to the Rolex China Sea Race, the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club had its first meeting in 1849. It boasts a total of three clubhouses, and members have access to some of the most expansive views of the Hong Kong skyline. Facilities accompanying membership are many, and include everything from a bowling alley to book and video library. Club membership fees vary according to category, but a standard individual membership costs $1,850,000 HKD (about $238,500 USD). Membership is open to the public when there are vacancies, but applicants with extensive sailing or rowing experience are considered first.

Yacht Club de Monaco, Monaco, French Riviera

Monaco didn’t earn its nickname “Capital of Yachting” for nothing. As much as it’s a favorite port destination for yachters around the world, the Yacht Club de Monaco is highly difficult to join so it lands a well deserved place on our list of most prestigious yacht clubs. Founded by Prince Rainier of Monaco in 1953, it remains one of the most exclusive yacht clubs in the world, with the application process requiring multiple sponsorships.

Aside from breathtaking views from the heart of the harbor, facilities include a rowing club and sailing school as well as an observation deck, a pool, guest cabins and a fitness center. Preserving tradition is a serious part of the YCM’s philosophy : the club maintains a strict dress code and naval code of etiquette, and requires active participation in the social calendar.

Cruising Yacht Club of Australia, Sydney, Australia

Rushcutters Bay, Sydney, Australia

The youngest to make the list, the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia began in 1944 and has since become the top yacht club in Australia. The club’s race schedule includes the illustrious Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race . Its 2,700 members enjoy full use of the stunningly picturesque Rushcutters Bay clubhouse (home to the Sydney Hobart Bar) as well as plenty of races, prize givings and social events.

Though there are many yacht clubs worldwide, each with varying degrees of difficulty in terms of accessibility, one thing remains certain. Belonging to the right yacht club ensures that you receive the full yachting experience , with all of the honor and tradition that comes with the sport.

The Most Prestigious Yachting Trophies and Their Stories

prestigious yachting photos

Sailing has long been celebrated not just for the thrill of navigating vast, unpredictable waters but also for its rich heritage of competition and achievement. Across the world, a multitude of races have been established, each with its own legacy and story. At the heart of these competitions are the coveted trophies, symbolizing victory, honor, and the relentless human spirit. These trophies are not just metal and enamel; they are embodiments of history, passion, and the undying love for the sea. In this article, we will take a deep dive into the stories behind some of the world’s most prestigious yachting trophies.

The America’s Cup: The Auld Mug’s Rich History

The America’s Cup stands as a towering testament to competitive sailing, tracing its origins back to 1851. Dubbed the “Auld Mug,” this illustrious trophy is the pinnacle of yachting competitions and is older than modern Olympic Games. Its story begins when the schooner named America, representing the New York Yacht Club, bested a fleet of British rivals in a race around England’s Isle of Wight. This unexpected victory by the Americans on British waters was not just a triumph in the sport but also had nationalistic undertones, showcasing burgeoning American maritime prowess. Since then, the Cup has changed hands, shifting from nation to nation, each with its own narrative of strategy, betrayal, technological advancements, and, of course, unparalleled sailing. It has spurred innovations in marine design and technology, with teams investing heavily to ensure their yachts have the edge. The fierce battles, both on water and in courtrooms, combined with the legacy of the races, make the America’s Cup not just a race, but an evolving narrative of ambition, rivalry, and national pride.

The Jules Verne Trophy: Around the World in Record Time

The thrill of circumnavigating the globe has long captured sailors’ imaginations, but doing it in record time brings an added layer of glory. The Jules Verne Trophy, named after the legendary author who penned “Around the World in Eighty Days,” is awarded to those who achieve this audacious feat the fastest. Since its inception in 1992, it has ignited the spirit of competition among sailors and navigators who brave the world’s harshest waters, from the icy embrace of the Southern Ocean to the treacherous currents of Cape Horn. The trophy isn’t just about speed but also about resilience, strategy, and the ability to adapt in ever-changing conditions. Every challenger embarks on a voyage where they are at the mercy of the elements, pushing both human and technological boundaries. The tales of those who have held the Jules Verne Trophy read like epic sagas of adventure, showcasing the indomitable human spirit.

The Admiral’s Cup: A Symbol of Naval Prestige

Beginning in 1957 and continuing until 2003, the Admiral’s Cup was a symbol of naval excellence and competition. Hosted by the Royal Ocean Racing Club in the UK, this event was a series of races that challenged teams in both inshore and offshore conditions. Throughout its history, the Admiral’s Cup became one of the world’s foremost offshore racing events, attracting top sailors and technologically advanced yachts.

The Blue Water Medal: Honoring Exceptional Voyages

The Blue Water Medal, awarded by the Cruising Club of America, is an embodiment of exceptional seamanship. Established in 1923, this award is presented to sailors who undertake extraordinary long-distance voyages. Over the years, the recipients of the Blue Water Medal have included legendary sailors whose voyages have inspired countless others to chase horizons and explore uncharted waters.

The Vendée Globe Trophy: Solo Circumnavigation Challenge

The Vendée Globe, often described as the “Everest of the Seas,” is a grueling solo, non-stop, around-the-world race. The trophy represents not just victory but resilience, determination, and unparalleled seamanship. Held every four years, competitors brave the Southern Ocean’s challenges, navigating through treacherous waters, making the Vendée Globe one of the most challenging sailing competitions on the planet.

The Volvo Ocean Race Trophy: Teamwork at Its Best

Starting its journey as the Whitbread Round the World Race in 1973 and later evolving into the Volvo Ocean Race, this competition is a testament to teamwork, endurance, and maritime strategy. Unlike other races where individual brilliance can shine, the Volvo Ocean Race emphasizes coordinated efforts, where crews must function as a single cohesive unit. This race is about combating the fiercest seas, unpredictable weather patterns, and, more importantly, managing human dynamics in close quarters for months on end. The teams face physical and mental challenges as they navigate through some of the world’s most treacherous waters. The trophy, an emblem of teamwork and perseverance, is coveted by sailors globally. It represents not just victory in a race but the culmination of human spirit, collaboration, and the shared ambition of every crew member on board.

Historical Trophies: Celebrating Centuries of Sailing Achievement

The rich tapestry of yachting history is adorned with several trophies, some dating back centuries. These historical trophies, often overshadowed by contemporary awards, are crucial landmarks that chart the evolution of competitive sailing. From regional competitions in coastal towns to grand races sponsored by monarchies, these trophies have tales of legendary sailors, epic battles against nature, and moments that changed the course of maritime history. For instance, trophies awarded in the Mediterranean during the Renaissance period speak of a time when sailing was not just sport but an essential skill, a means of exploration, and a display of naval dominance. Then there are trophies from the Age of Sail, which signify the golden era of wind-powered voyages. Each of these historical trophies, ornate and exuding antiquity, serves as a tangible link to our maritime past, reminding us of the challenges faced, the victories celebrated, and the legacies created by sailors of yore.

Yachting trophies, in all their gleaming glory, are more than just symbols of victory. They represent tales of valor, innovation, and a ceaseless quest for mastery over the seas. As we look at these trophies, we are reminded of the countless sailors who, driven by passion and determination, have etched their names in maritime history. Whether you’re a sailor, enthusiast, or someone who appreciates history, these trophies and their stories serve as an enduring reminder of humanity’s indomitable spirit. Here’s to the winds that guide and the waves that challenge, for in their dance, legends are born.

Famous yacht races and luxury regattas

Published on October 2nd, 2023 by Editor -->

The old adage – “Opinions are like assholes; everybody has one and they usually stink” – may apply in this report by Prestige, the ( according to them ) online lifestyle media of choice for the affluent and influential as well as among high-flying corporate leaders, the country’s most eminent personalities, and Asia’s social elite:

Whether you’re a sailor looking for your next yacht racing adventure or a spectator hoping to soak up the exclusive atmosphere of a luxury superyacht regatta, we take a look at the most famous yacht races in the world you should be keeping tabs on.

Watching one of the world’s top yacht races is how many seasoned sailors have first become interested in the sport of sailing. A display of skill, style, and perseverance, significant sailing events take place in major yachting hubs around the world every month of the year. And every three to four years, yachting enthusiasts can gear up to watch extreme around-the-world regattas such as the Vendèe Globe or The Ocean Race.

The top sailing race in the world is currently considered the America’s Cup, a prestigious yacht race begun in 1851 and raced on AC75 foiling boats. But there’s also plenty of traditional sailing events to capture audiences of all inclinations, such as the Boxing Day Sydney Hobart yacht race, which involves sloops and cutters sailing along the sun-kissed shorelines of Australia, or exclusive regattas raced on luxury mega yachts, such as the St Barth’s Bucket.

2022 marks the second year of The Annual Gustavia Yacht Club International Photography Contest, organized by the Gustavia Yacht Club. The contest is open to all professional photographers over the age of 18, regardless of nationality and photography style. The 2022 competition drew 56 submissions representing photographers from 17 countries. This year’s award ceremony takes place at the Brigantin Museum in Gustavia, St. Barts and will be attended by the Commodore of the Club: Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou and President of the Jury of the competition  Milena Modigliani Perini. The jury panel is made up of esteemed members including Haji-Ioannou, Perini as well as Minou Weber, Bruno Gardien, Candy Miller, Henning Schwarzkopf, Chris O’Donoghue, Jean-Pierre Hennequet, Nils Dufau, Mrs. Trifiro, André Labarrère, Julie Diehl, Sébastien Le Ber, Ron Zarella, and Kate Holstein.

The Gustavia Yacht Club was established in 2016 by Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou  ( www.stelios.org ) and co-founder Jean-Pierre Hennequet to create a community for yachting and sailing aficionados. Since its establishment, the island has seen immense growth in numbers of international jet-setting visitors who favor adventures at sea.

President of Ulysse Nardin Americas, François-Xavier Hotier said, “Ulysse Nardin, Gustavia Yacht Club and winner of this year’s photographic contest, Steven Lapkin, all share the same passion for the water. Competitions like these remind us of our oceans’ beauty and our need to preserve them. Congratulations, Steven, on your winning image and your passion for boating and the seas.”

Sir Stelios , Commodore of the Gustavia Yacht Commented : “I am always amazed how all these incredibly talented photographers who participated in our competition can capture the beauty of sailing in such a way that most of us will never get the chance to see the same shot in real life. Sailing is a beautiful, environmentally friendly hobby for the many of us and a tough sport for those elite sailors captured in these photos. I would like to thank all of the photographers for taking part but in particular the overall winner Steven Lapkin. I would also like to thank Ulysse Nardin for being so generous with the prizes to the winners!
