The wooden veneer will be Nordic Oak as standard, with other options on offer.   

Bulkhead and Furniture Surfaces:

Quarter sawn high quality wooden veneers, lightly sanded and varnished, from Italian suppliers. As standard furniture is built in Nordic Oak offering a light modern look. More traditional teak is also available.

Two Cabin Layout:

The two cabin layout has a head compartment with separate shower compartment and features a forward-facing navigation station with full length sofa.

Three Cabin Layout:

The three cabin layout has an innovative aft facing chart table that can be neatly stowed out of the way when not in use. The three cabin layout is available from Spring 2020.

Light, strong and stiff:

With the introduction of the X-65 in 2007, X-Yachts started to infuse hulls for performance yachts utilizing epoxy resin. Epoxy infusion construction offers fantastic control over the laminate allowing it to be optimized to maximize strength and stiffness, whilst saving weight. In the X4⁰ all weight saved is used to increase the yacht’s stability enabling the crew to have a more relaxed time and to feel safer and more comfortable. The fact, that the hull is cured, baked at high temperatures for almost 24 hours, not only optimizes the hull material properties but also minimizes the risk of the darker colored hull surfaces to suddenly start posturing, losing the surface finish. With over 10 years of experience building epoxy infused yachts, X-Yachts took the decision in 2018 to build all models using this technology, one of the only yacht builders to do so.

Construction:

At the heart of the X4⁰ is the galvanized steel keel grillage structure. Pioneered by X-Yachts back in 1981, the galvanized steel hull girder offers superb reassurance and safety. Its primary role is to spread keel and mast loads into the hull and it also enables the yacht to withstand extreme shock loads from grounding or an impact with a submersed object. Not only is the keel structure immensely strong, it is also reliable and very easy to inspect for potential damage. Bolted to the steel grillage is the keel with iron fin and heavy lead bulb with moderate draft. There is both a shallow and a deep draft option available.

Deck layout:

The standard deck layout comes with: 4 winches, two halyards, self-tacker sheet and control line winches next to the entrance, and two main sheet winches aft of the cockpit’s backrest coamings within reach of the helmsman. The deck has an integrated recessed self-tacker track for an 88% jib. There is an option for coach roof top longitudinal Genoa tracks and two dedicated Genoa sheet winches on top of the cockpit backrest coamings, enabling the Genoa size to go up to 106% for improved light wind performance

Hot out of the X-Yachts Design Office comes the X4⁰, a forty-foot performance cruising yacht that is just as capable for some serious mileage as it is blasting around the cans at the weekend. The new baby X-Yacht joins the hugely successful and critically acclaimed pure X range.

The design philosophy was very clear from the outset - like all our yachts, we place a huge emphasis on giving the owner a superb and comfortable sailing experience, on a yacht that is easy to handle by all the crew.

A standard clear anodized mast and boom is standard on the X4.0. This yacht can be upgraded to a carbon-fiber mast and boom at an additional charge.

Knallrot und blitzblank poliert steht die Baunummer 1 aufgebockt vor dem Werftgebäude und wartet auf die Auslieferung – nein, nicht ganz, das schmucke Schiffchen ist satte 40 Jahre alt und die erste je gebaute X, eine X-79. In England aufgespürt und komplett überholt, stiehlt sie der eigentlichen Neuheit fast die Schau; die liegt hinter dem Gebäude am Werftsteg und glänzt nicht weniger, in Weiß mit hellgrauen Zierstreifen, aber deutlich dezenter.

Das Understatement passt zum Anspruch der X 4.0. Als kleinstes Modell der aktuellen Pure-X-Linie soll sie den Wohnkomfort und die einfache Bedienung der XC-38 mit den Segelleistungen der XP-38 verbinden und dabei sportlich und luxuriös wirken. Optisch ist die X 4.0 näher an der Performance-Serie: Stevenform, Bugnase und Seitenlinie des Aufbaus erinnern stark an die XP-38. Freibord, Rumpf und Wasserlinienbreite und damit das Volumen des Rumpfs sind aber deutlich gewachsen. In Gesamtlänge und Wasserlinienlänge trennen die Entwürfe dagegen nur wenige Zentimeter, womit die neue X 4.0 eigentlich eine 38-Fuß-Yacht ist, die nur dank der festen Bugnase knapp über zwölf Meter kommt.

Bei der Bauweise beschreitet die 40er einen Zwischenweg. Der Rumpf wird wie bei X inzwischen üblich mit Epoxidharz im Vakuuminfusions-Verfahren laminiert und getempert. Im Gegensatz zur Performance-Reihe kommt aber keine Kohlefaserbodengruppe zum Einsatz. Stattdessen gibt es den bewährten feuerverzinkten Stahlrahmen mit Anschlagspunkt für einen Heißstropp. Zusammen mit dem größeren und damit schwereren Rumpf sowie dem Innenausbau drückt das auf die Verdrängung. Mit 8,1 Tonnen wiegt die 40er etwa 1,4 Tonnen mehr als die XP-38.

X-Yachts 4.0: einfach effizient

Auf dem Wasser ist davon wenig zu merken. Der Blick vom Rad über das geräumige Cockpit, die breiten Laufdecks und den markanten Aufbau lässt zwar keinen Zweifel aufkommen, dass man sich auf einem massigen Schiff befindet; die physische Rückmeldung jedoch ist eine ganz andere.

Sobald die Segel gesetzt sind, fühlt sich die X agil an, sie beschleunigt temperamentvoll und liegt ausgesprochen gut auf dem Ruder. X-Yachts entwickelt nicht nur die Rumpflinien und Kiele in der hauseigenen Designabteilung, sondern fertigt auch die Ruderblätter individuell. Was im Falle der 4.0 besonders gut gelungen scheint: Das Boot reagiert sehr direkt auf Steuereingaben, wirkt aber nicht nervös. Vor allem aber liefert das Blatt sehr detaillierte Rückmeldungen über die Strömungsverhältnisse. Damit ist es einfach, die X optimal an der Windkante zu steuern. Auch ein drohender Sonnenschuss kündigt sich frühzeitig an. Übertreibt man es unter Gennaker, nimmt der Ruderdruck zu, bis die Steuerung merklich weich wird. Darauf folgt aber kein plötzlicher Strömungs­abriss. Stattdessen bleibt genügend Ruderwirkung, um beherzt abzufallen oder die Schot loszuwerfen.

Ganz abgesehen vom damit verbundenen Segelspaß ist ein derartig feinfühlig und gutmütig abgestimmtes Ruderblatt gerade mit kleiner Crew ein Segen. Was perfekt zum Konzept der X 4.0 passt: Sie soll sich einhand, mit der Familie oder zu zweit genauso gut bewegen lassen wie mit größerer Crew, beispielsweise auf Clubregatten. In der Grundausstattung ist eine Selbstwendefock vorgesehen, womit sich das Segelhandling im Prinzip auf Großschot und Traveller beschränkt. Beides lässt sich im Single- oder Doublehanded-Modus gut vom Rudergänger trimmen, der dazu wahlweise vor oder hinter dem Rad sitzt.

Ideale Bedingungen am Testtag

Die Schot läuft direkt über den Traveller zu zwei in die Enden des Cockpitsülls ein­gelassenen Winschen. Dank großer Umlenkblöcke funktioniert das System leichtgängig. Die Schot der Selbstwendefock hingegen endet an den Fallwinschen am Niedergang und ist außer Reichweite. Das Testboot war mit der optionalen 106-Prozent-Genua bestückt. In dieser Konfiguration und mit dem einen halben Meter höheren Carbonmast kommt die X auf eine Segeltragezahl von 4,7. Das Standardboot liegt nur bei 4,4. Bei Leichtwind dürfte daher ein Code Zero hilfreich sein.

Am Testtag wehte es mit 14 bis 17 Knoten, das sind ideale Bedingungen für die vorhandene Segelfläche. Vor allem an der Kreuz fühlt sich die X wohl; 6,8 Knoten bei etwa 41 Grad Windeinfall können sich sehen lassen. Böen steckt sie auch ohne aufwendige Trimmkorrekturen sauber weg. Mit dem etwa 125 Quadratmeter großen Gennaker pen­delte die Logge raumschots zwischen 8,6 und 9,3 Knoten.

Wenn nötig, lässt sich der Segeltrimm über den hydraulischen Achterstagspanner, Unterliekstrecker, Traveller und Cunningham schnell an die Windverhältnisse anpassen. Einzig die über den Aufbau gelenkte Bedienung der Unter-Deck-Rollreffanlage hat zu viel Reibung. Doppelte, nach Luv geführte Trimmeinrichtungen sucht man auf der 4.0 vergebens, ein Zugeständnis ans schiere Deckslayout. Die anvisierte Zielgruppe dürfte das nicht vermissen.

Das Interieur der X 4.0

Sich aber umso mehr für das wohnliche Interieur erwärmen. Der Ausbau erfolgt wahlweise in heller Eiche oder in Teak. Wobei nur für die Bodenbretter Laminat verwendet wird; die übrigen Baugruppen bestehen aus furniertem Bootsbausperrholz, sind massiv oder formverleimt und allesamt makellos lackiert. Was für lange Lebensdauer und eine wertige Optik des Interieurs sorgt. Zur Einführung gibt es die X nur als Zwei-Kabinen-Variante mit einer großen Backskiste an Steuerbord, einem Waschraum mit Dusche und einem vollwertigen Naviplatz. Ab nächstem Frühjahr folgt eine Drei-Kammer-Ver­sion. Dann fällt die Backskiste weg; die Nass­zelle schrumpft und rutscht nach vorn. Außerdem wird die Navi-Ecke zu einem Klapptischchen.

Die L-förmige Pantry und das Vorschiff bleiben unverändert. Insgesamt wirkt der Ausbau frisch und hell, bei Wahl der optionalen Oberschränke erinnert er deutlich an die XC-Linie. Die Rumpffenster liegen aber tiefer, daher können die Schapps durchlaufen, und der Salon wird optisch gestreckt.

Auch die praxisrelevanten Details stimmen: Es gibt solide Handläufe und vier zu öffnende Seitenfenster; die Rumpffenster und eine Decksluke im Salon lassen viel natürliches Licht ins Schiff. Der Platz unter den bequemen Sitzduchten ist durch Tanks und Akkus fast vollständig belegt. Im aufklappbaren Tisch und den Schapps ist aber reichlich Stauraum vorhanden.

Erwähnenswert ist das unauffällige, in die Pantryarbeitsfläche integrierte Süll. Die kleine Erhebung verhindert, dass Spritz­wasser beim Abspülen in den Kühlschrank läuft. Schön auch, dass der Kühlkompressor schon in der Standardvariante seewassergekühlt ist, das schont den Akku und heizt die Küchenzeile nicht auf.

Schöner schlafen auf der X 4.0

Platzangebot und Raumeindruck im Salon sind gut, aber nicht viel anders, als man es bei der Bootsgröße gewohnt ist. Das Vorschiff dagegen ist eine Wucht. Da keine weitere Nasszelle vorhanden ist, fällt es sehr großzügig aus.

Geschlafen wird auf einem zwei Meter langen und lediglich 1,00 bis 1,30 Meter breiten Inselbett. Schön ist das zusätzliche Skylight über dem Kopf­ende. Es liefert tagsüber Licht und ermöglicht nachts den direkten Blick in den Sternenhimmel. Die Rumpffenster, die Decks­luke und der nach vorn gerichtete Fensterstreifen im Aufbau lassen noch mehr Licht in die Eignerkammer. Bekleidung findet in zwei Kleiderschränken sowie den umlaufenden Schapps Platz. Größere Gegenstände können bequem unter der Koje untergebracht werden, Polster und Auflage klappen gas­druck­unterstützt mit einem Handgriff nach oben.

Nicht ganz so fürstlich geht es achtern zu. Die Liegefläche und vor allem die Höhe über der Koje sind aber komfortabel und gut für zwei Erwachsene geeignet. Dank Skylight, Rumpffenster und Fenster zum Cockpit ist für Licht und Luft gesorgt.

Die X 4.0 positioniert sich sehr genau zwischen den bestehenden Performance- und Cruising-Linien der Wert. Wobei gegenüber der XP vor allem der Wohnkomfort deutlich zugelegt hat. Die zusätzlichen Pfunde merkt man dem Boot auf dem Wasser kaum an. Es vermittelt auf allen Kursen den von einer X zu erwartenden Segelspaß und lässt sich dank simpler Bedienung selbst von kleinen Crews effizient segeln. Im Vergleich zur Konkurrenz muss man dafür allerdings auch den X-typischen Aufschlag zahlen.

Die X 4.0 im Detail
