Anurag Kashyap poses with Vijay Sethupathi and Vetrimaaran in new pics, meets entire team of Viduthalai
Anurag kashyap posed with vijay sethupathi and vetrimaaran in new photos. he also met the entire team of viduthalai recently..
Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap , who has been a fan of Vetrimaaran’s films for the longest time, recently met the entire team of Viduthalai. Taking to Instagram on Tuesday, Rajiv Menon shared photos from their get-together. He captioned the post, “He must be the righ composer for Vetrimaaran…" (Also Read | Anurag Kashyap says he was ‘bored’ of expectations to make a gangster movie )
In this picture, the entire lead cast of the film can be seen posing with Anurag, including composer GV Prakash Kumar. Apart from the duo, Soori, Rajiv Menon and his daughter, Gautham Menon, Vetrimaaran , and Vijay Sethupathi were also seen in the picture.
For the meeting, Anurag was seen in a black T-shirt and red pants. Vijay dressed in a cream shirt and denims. Gautham Menon opted for a blue shirt and pants. Vetrimaaran wore a black and white T-shirt and denims. Sharing a photo from the get-together on his Twitter, GV Prakash wrote, "A picture to remember …"

A few weeks ago, Anurag talked about Vetrimaaran’s Viduthalai in his Letterboxd post, calling it a very powerful film. In his Letterboxd post, Anurag wrote, “Viduthalai: Part 1. Very powerful film, superb performances across board , the best opening shot I’ve seen in the longest time .. looking forward to part 2 .. Vetrimaaran is our best.”
A week ago, he had shared a picture on his Instagram page. He captioned the post, “About last night with team Viduthalai (sic).” Viduthalai: Part 1 is definitely not for the faint-hearted. It is an elaborate, detailed exploration of abuse of power and it dives deep into the psyche of a man, an honest police constable, who is torn between his job and trying to find the truth. The film stars Soori as the constable and Vijay as the leader of a liberation group.
Interestingly, Anurag is all set to play the antagonist in Vijay Sethupathi ’s upcoming 50th film, Maharaja. The project will be directed by Nithilan Swaminathan.
Vetrimaaran recently confirmed that his long-delayed Tamil film Vada Chennai 2 with Dhanush has not been shelved. Putting to rest rumours that Vada Chennai 2 has been shelved, Vetrimaaran clarified that he will take up the film after completing his next two projects.
“Vada Chennai 2 will happen after the release of Viduthalai: Part 2 and Suriya’s Vaadivasal. The project is not dropped. It’ll definitely happen,” Vetrimaaran had said at the audio and trailer launch of the upcoming Tamil film Rudhran. Vada Chennai was the third collaboration of Vetrimaaran and Dhanush. They reunited for Asuran two years later but never got to work on Vada Chennai 2.
Vada Chennai follows the lives of a few characters in Chennai and takes a deep dive into the underbelly of rowdyism and local politics. The first part followed the character of Dhanush, who plays a local carrom player who ends up in the world of gangsters.

Vada Chennai: Anurag Kashyap adviced Vetrimaaran to split Dhanush's next into two parts
Anurag and vetrimaaran have been good friends since the former saw the latter's award-winning tamil film aadukalam..
Listen to Story
National Award winning filmmaker Vetrimaaran's next Tamil directorial Vada Chennai with actor Dhanush will be made in two parts. Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap is said to have inspired Vetrimaaran for this.
"This film 'Vada Chennai' spans across three decades in the life of a gangster. It can't be told in one part. It was Anurag Kashyap who suggested Vetrimaaran to make the film in two parts," a source close to Vetrimaaran told IANS.

Anurag and Vetrimaaran have been good friends since the former saw the latter's award-winning Tamil film Aadukalam. "They've been good friends over the last few years. They discuss their scripts every now and then. Anurag had told Vetrimaaran to write how much ever he wants and then decide whether the story could be told in one part or two or more," he said.
In Vada Chennai, Dhanush will be essaying the role of a gangster. Vetrimaaran's next release will be Tamil thriller Visaaranai, which will soon have its world premiere at Venice International Film Festival.

Review Of Viduthalai Part 1: Is A Powerful But Redundant Statement On Police Brutality
Subhash k jha reviews viduthalai part 1.
Viduthalai Part 1
Rating: ***
Director Vetrimaaran is to Tamil cinema what Anurag Kashyap tries to be for Hindi cinema. His hardhitting raw and blunt indictment of a corrupt and insensitive establishment has often labelled Vetrimaaran a rebel with a cause.
With Vidhuthalai I really feel it’s time for a pause. We have seen enough police brutality and social inequality in Vetrimaaran’s cinema .In Vidhuthalai , a lot of it appears redundant: not in the social but cinematic context. In how many ways can the director show tribals being showered with lathi blows by cops who seem to enjoy hearing the downtrodden whimpering and shrieking pain?
In Vetrimaaran’s Visaranai(2016) police torture was carried to the extreme. The audience felt so immersed in the lockup torture it felt as if we had committed some unknown crime.
This is exactly what Vetrimaran’s wants us to feel while watching tribals from the forests being picked up and thrashed mercilessly. The women are stripped and vilified. It all begins to seem more oppressive than immersive after a while. It is almost a homage to homicide than a mirror image of a society based on inequality.
The one bright spark in the dark is the constable Kumaresan, played with splendid self-deprecatory energy by Soori, who is the lone sheep among the howling wolves of the task force sent into the jungle to nab the Naxals of the 1980s .Kumaresan has a genuine aversion to torture and brutality. Kumaresan is what the director Vetrimaaran is.But neither can hide away from the fascism generated by inequality .
Vetrimaaran wants us, the spectators to see and hear every thwack of the lathi on the disempowered back. In Viduthalai he brings the women into the police-sanctioned torture chamber. The rites of police excesses on screen are meant to shame not so much the victims of torture on screen as us the mute spectators.
Duly shamed , we cling to Kumarasen pure-heart for comfort. His tender unconditional romance with a local tribal girl Tamilarasi(played by Bhavani Sre) is like the milk in a hard impenetrable coconut.
Viduthalai is unrelentingly violent. It starts with a lengthy stylish one-shot sequence of a train bombing and ends with a stretched-out shootout where the most-wanted leader of the People’s Army Perumal(Vijay Sethupathi) is apprehended. Hopefully this would end the orgy of police torture. Hopefully we will see more of the riveting Sethupathi’s Robin Hood act in the second part of the film. Hopefully this time Vetrimaaran would focus more on the emotions than the thwacks.

The Anurag Kashyap interview | ‘My mother wanted me to learn from Ajay Gnanamuthu’
Looking at how Anurag Kashyap is coolly dressed in a pair of distressed jeans, you’d never imagine he’s the man behind intense films like Dev.D and Gangs of Wasseypur. The buzz around his performance in Imaikkaa Nodigal is such that he got calls from countries like France from those wishing him well. Excerpts from a conversation with the ace filmmaker:
Can you elaborate on the experience of having acted in your first Tamil film? Being a filmmaker, I am a firm believer that actors follow a director to the T. I did the same. The action sequences were demanding, but Ajay was more confident about them than I was. I have acted in stage shows, but they scarcely prepared me for the action scenes. At 46, I feel fit, thanks to this (laughs).
How has the feedback been? I got feedback from AR Muragadoss and Sasikumar about the film. My whole family saw the film and my mother told me to learn a thing or two from the director (laughs). After knowing that I’m doing this film, a lot of people have now approached me for roles in Tamil cinema, but I haven’t signed any yet. There was a discussion with Vetrimaran for a role in Vada Chennai but I couldn’t do it, due to my commitments.
We heard that you are not a big fan of being prompted for the lines. Yes, I mugged them up. Learning the lines was a three-step process for me. I would write all the dialogues in Hindi and make my assistant speak it to me, so I could understand the emotions. Then I’d say it in front of an assistant director, and on the sets, I’d make Ajay speak the lines again. That’s how I got the pronunciation right. I wanted to dub for the film, but I couldn’t because of time constraints. The shooting was stopped in between because of the late CM’s death and then because of the Jallikattu protest. I had to continue shooting for my directorial as well, and it was difficult to co-ordinate. Director Magizh Thirumeni dubbed for me and I thanked him for the awesome job he’s done.
Being an established filmmaker yourself, how was it to work with a one-film-old director? When I go on the sets as an actor, I try to be just an actor. I don’t like to interfere. I liked that Ajay is very clear about what he wants. His excitement is contagious and the smile of Rudra (his character in the film), is something I copied from Ajay himself (smiles). I never saw the monitor and trusted him completely. When I eventually saw the film, I was very happy. The response I have received is something I didn’t expect. You played a negative role in Akira too... It’s all because of AR Muragadoss (laughs). He made me a villain and passed me on to Ajay (who had previously assisted AR Murugadoss). He’s a very good friend with whom I talk a lot about films.
Speaking about filmmaking, how different did you find Tamil film sensibilities to be? The technicians and directors are very good but the production system is very different here. While shooting this film, I finished four projects — Mukkabaaz, Manmarziyaan, Lust Stories and Sacred Games. I think Bollywood is getting influenced by the South. We used to do films about NRI romances and not about India. It was about getting married in New York and fighting in London. Now we’re returning to our roots. Regional cinema is extremely rooted in its culture. That’s why I can’t do a great superhero film because Hollywood would do it better with better resources, and they’ll dub it into our languages as well. You’ve produced and directed web-series as well. How do you decide that a story fits into a particular platform? When you see a story like Imaikkaa Nodigal, you’ll know that it can only be made for the big screen. A film like Raman Raghav 2.0 works better on Netflix because it’s a more intimate, personal experience. When experimenting with small budget films, I prefer OTT platforms as that audience does not go to the cinema. I also find a lot of freedom in such platforms, as they have a much bigger audience. Cinema is just four shows a day, for a few days.
What’s your take on Tamil cinema? Can we expect to see you directing a Tamil film soon? I want to do one. I have a lot of favourite actors such as Vijay Sethupathi and Dhanush. I haven’t learnt the language but my ex-wife (Kalki Koechlin) used to speak the language. I don’t like doing remakes. I heard someone was trying to get the remake rights of the Malayalam film, Angamaly Diaries, and I was wondering how that’ll work because Angamaly Diaries is about Angamaly. How can you make it in Hindi? But I also got inspired by Subramaniyapuram and came up with the story of Wasseypur. Had I remade Subramaniyapuram, it wouldn’t have made sense. I feel Tamil cinema can go further and not just restrict itself to Tamil audiences. I think the insecurity of the distribution system doesn’t allow it to go further. I remember how Visaranai travelled and generated interest across the country. I’ve got so much work to do in Bollywood for the next five years. Acting consumes a lot of time and I’m not sure if I can sign more projects. I have a company as well, so when I disappear, they panic. Either I’ll act for a person who I love and respect or I’ll act for lots of money (laugh).

Anurag Kashyap to direct Bobby Deol in a thriller: Report
In the second innings of his career, Bobby Deol has captured attention with his standout performances in Animal and the web series Aashram , among other projects. Now, the 55-year-old actor is gearing up to team up with acclaimed director Anurag Kashyap for an upcoming thriller film, Peeping Moon reported. Said to be based on real events, the plot will revolve around a man who is wrongfully accused of rape.
Why does this story matter?
Deol has showcased his versatility through acclaimed performances in web series and films like Class of '83 (2020), Aashram (2020-present), and Love Hostel (2022). However, it was his role in the top-grossing action film Animal (2023) that truly solidified his comeback. Playing the menacing Abrar Haque (in a supporting role), Deol earned a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor. His upcoming projects have now generated significant excitement among fans.
'Deol-Kashyap have been planning to work together since 2017...'
A source close to the project revealed to the portal, "Anurag and Bobby share a great admiration for each other and have been planning to work together since 2017." "However, it was only a few months ago, when Anurag came to him with this well-knit, hard-hitting story, that their long-cherished desire to work together came true." The insider further added, "They are extremely excited for this new endeavor and cannot wait to begin shooting."
All details on the Deol-Kashyap thriller project
Per the report, the screenplay for this film has been adapted from an unpublished book co-authored by Kashyap and two other writers. The untitled film is scheduled to start shooting in May, primarily in Mumbai. Meanwhile, a separate report by Times Now revealed that this project will be backed by Nikhil Dwivedi. More specifics about the project, including its title, additional cast, and release date, are yet to be disclosed.
Deol's busy year ahead with multiple projects
In addition to the Kashyap project, Deol has a packed schedule with four other projects set for release. These include Aryan Khan 's directorial debut six-episode web series, Stardom . The series is also expected to have a cameo by Ranbir Kapoor. Deol has also completed the shoot for Kunal Kohli 's investigative drama, Shlok - The Desi Sherlock . Apart from this, he will be featured in Suriya 's Tamil fantasy epic, Kanguva , and Pawan Kalyan 's Telugu period action film, Hari Hara Veera Mallu .

Bobby Deol and Anurag Kashyap might be teaming up for a gritty thriller, scheduled to go on floors in May.
This year brings many firsts for Bobby Deol. The 55-years old Bollywood star is venturing into South Indian cinema with roles in Suriya’s much-awaited Tamil fantasy epic, ‘Kanguva’, as well as Pawan Kalyan’s Telugu period action film, ‘Hari Hara Veera Mallu.’ Moreover, he’s set to play the antagonist in a spy thriller by Yash Raj Films, alongside Alia Bhatt and Sharvari. As if that’s not thrilling enough, Bobby has recently signed on to work with Anurag Kashyap on a mysterious and compelling project.
Recent reports from PeepingMoon.com reveal that Bobby and Anurag are collaborating on a gritty thriller. The film’s plot, based on a true story involving a man wrongly implicated in a rape case, has generated significant buzz despite being kept under wraps. Adapted from an unpublished book by Anurag and two other writers, this project is a long-awaited partnership between the actor and director. Production is scheduled to begin in May, with most filming to take place in Mumbai.
Excitement is brewing as Bobby and Anurag are enthusiastic about their collaboration. Their mutual admiration dates back to 2017 when they first discussed working together. The opportunity finally arose when Anurag pitched this intense script, fulfilling their shared desire to create something impactful. Anticipated to feature an ensemble cast, this film is expected to be on a grander scale compared to Anurag’s recent works. As the director juggles this project, he’s also said to be developing a web series for a major streaming service.
On Bobby’s end, this project adds to his already packed schedule for the year. Alongside his South Indian and pan-India ventures, he’s slated to appear in Aryan Khan’s debut web series, ‘Stardom,’ and Kunal Kohli’s investigative drama, ‘Desi Sherlock.’ Furthermore, the release of his Abbas-Mustan thriller, ‘Penthouse,’ is eagerly awaited after Netflix’s withdrawal, hinting at a potential premiere on another streaming platform.
Hailed as one of the finest actors in the film industry, Bobby Deol has acted in many films including Barsaat, Soldier, etc. He took a sabbatical from the film industry owing to successive flops but made a remarkable comeback with the film Animal, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga. He played the role of Abrar ul Haque in Animal and won appreciation despite limited screen time.
