Motor Yacht

After “Quantum of Solace” and “Diamonds Are Forever”, “Spectre” is the third yacht launched by Benetti for talented New York businessman John Staluppi. M/Y “Spectre” is a 69-meter Full Custom Mega Yacht with a steel hull and an aluminium superstructure on five decks. The name pays tribute once again to James Bond, while the hull by Dutch firm Mulder Design aims to deliver extraordinary performance for yachts this size and is fitted with the new Ride Control technology by Naiad Dynamics. The interior design by Benetti’s Interior Style Department brings to mind the Art Deco and Liberty moods of certain French interiors, while the flowing, contemporary exterior contours are designed by Giorgio M. Cassetta.

The owner chooses Benetti for the third time and, as usual, celebrates his passion for James Bond, the leading character in the series of films inspired by the novels of Ian Fleming. John Staluppi who has fallen in love with Made in Italy excellence, has named his latest megayacht, a Full Custom launched yesterday in Livorno, “Spectre” after the title of the famous 2015 film starring 007. The plans for this original boat were developed around the latest marine technologies and combining different styles and philosophies of interior decoration, with references to the past (the nineteen twenties in France) mixed with modern details. M/Y “Spectre” (FB269) is a full custom 69-meter megayacht, with a steel hull and an aluminium superstructure arranged on five decks, featuring a swimming pool and a ‘touch and go’ helipad. Accommodating 12 guests in unparalleled comfort, the layout features two owner’s cabins (one has a private terrace, a sun lounging area and a hydromassage tub), two VIP cabins on the Main Deck and two guest cabins on the lower deck. Bringing together Benetti’s most advanced design and construction technologies, M/Y “Spectre” is fitted with Ride Control technology by Naiad Dynamics, representing an absolute novelty for this type of boat. The system significantly increases stability during navigation and improves comfort on board with the help of four stabilising fins and three vertically-adjustable blades. The lines of the Hi Speed Cruising Hull, designed by Dutch firm Mulder Design, deliver maximum navigation efficiency, with a range of 6,500 nautical miles at 12 knots and a top speed of 21.2 knots, 30% more than a traditional displacement hull. The exteriors are by Giorgio M. Cassetta, who says that he has fallen in love with the project and is proud to have contributed to the creation of such a technologically advanced yacht: “I’m very fond of Spectre. It’s the perfect example of a virtuous confluence between the ideas of the owner and the shipyard. John and Jeanette Staluppi, with their immense experience and energy, have spurred us on to imagine a yacht complete with everything that could be desired on a boat this size. Benetti accepted the challenge of building it to the highest standards and with a wealth of innovative technology. The splendid result is a satisfaction that my firm will treasure in the years to come”. The style of the interiors, created by Benetti’s Interior Style Department, recalls the mood of certain French hotels and boutiques, standing out from Staluppi’s previous boats in a more classical and modern way. The floor in the main lounge, for example, draws inspiration from the Liberty style flooring in a Paris resort, featuring symmetrical forms and clean-cut geometrical patterns enriched here with modern touches provided by the choice of Armani fabrics. Other references to French taste are the windows, a reminiscent of Paris’ typical Liberty style shops. With the launch of “Spectre”, Benetti begins a period of hectic activity featuring some very big yachts. A remarkable 7 Full Custom yacht deliveries are planned in 2018/2019, including 3 giga yachts over 100 meters each, now being built in parallel at the company’s Livorno shipyard.

Benetti – Spectre

The sea trial was pubblished in Superyacht 62 – Summer 2019

“Spectre” is a 69 metre full custom built by Benetti for John Staluppi, entrepreneur and American philanthropist with a wholesome passion for James Bond’s saga and ‘veteran’ loyal returner to Benetti. In fact this is his third superyacht in less than ten years.

“I’m Staluppi, John Staluppi”. He must have introduced himself like that mimicking Secret agent 007 -Bond’s way the first time Staluppi walked through Benetti’s gates. From then on it’s been love at first sight as in less than ten years he’s had three superyachts built and “Spectre” is the latest.

benetti spectre yacht

Born in1947 Mr. Staluppi started with nothing and followed his dream and become a multi-millionaire. He quit school at sixteen and kicked off as mechanic to become one of the most important entrepreneurs in the automotive industry in the USA. Among other things, he founded Florida’s Classic Car Museum known as “Cars of Dreams” which is where he often stages auctions dedicated to charity. A great philanthropist too, he’s been involved in several charity associations. Staluppi is also a keen yachtsman of superyachts as well being the founder of the Millenium Super Yachts brand through which he proposes highly performing custom models. He’s always been a real ‘monster’ performance buff, also as a challenge to the Aga Khan’s very fast power boats. Staluppi induced Heesen to build him “Octopussy” a 39 metre with a top speed of 53 knots followed by a 36 metre by Norship “Moonraker” which is capable of 61 knots and by 42 metre “The World is Not Enough” built with the Millenium Super Yachts brand which notwithstanding the fact that according to the design project it should have reached 70 knots, it has never gone beyond 66.

Adding up the number of yachts he has owned over the years, John has had 18 yachts and superyachts each one of them with names connected to secret Agent James Bond created in the ‘fifties by Ian Fleming. The latest in this long list is 69 metre “Spectre” which hit the water on November 19th last year at Benetti’s premises. With a steel and aluminium alloy build this mega yacht required a total of 750,000 man hours to build from inception to completion. Giorgio M. Cassetta drew up the project design work of the exteriors, with a demanding task which was to deliver enough similitude with the glorious thrilling moments the US automotive industry was capable of delivering in the nineteen fifties and sixties. The final winning result obtained was, in working with proportions, making them dynamic but without taking anything away from the interior volumes, and naturally with numerous special designs borrowed from the historic and iconic motor cars which used to speed along the highways in those times. Dutch Mulder Design delivered the structural project work of the hull and engines, with whom Staluppi established a long prolific collaboration. As for “Spectre” Frank Mulder came up with something he defines as being a “High Speed Cruising Hull, a sort of displacing hull which enables the 69 metre to reach a considerable speed of 21.2 knots with a pair of MTU 2,580 KW engines which is as much as 30% better than that of a traditional hull. Thanks also to large capacious fuel tanks this yacht’s range is of about 6,500 nautical miles at 12 knots. Total Ride Control technology by Naiad Dynamics, thanks to this Dutch studio has been installed for the first time on a yacht namely ”Spectre”. Prior to this Total Ride Control technology was installed on commercial vessels. The system enhances stability while cruising. Essentially it is made of a pair of stabilizer fins in the bow area which dampen pitch accordingly and three interceptors aft of amidships towards the stern area which dampen roll. Benetti’s in house interior Style Department and the owner accompanied by his wife Jeannette for her precious input worked together. The final choice fell upon Liberty styling which in trendy Paris hotels and boutiques was very popular at the turn of the twentieth century. More of it is clearly visible in several of the details in the main living area/saloon situated along the main deck. Details of the carpeting copy the Parisian style of the times and so do the window like ports which like to recall the shop windows of the same period in Paris. The interior layout comprises two large cabins along the lower deck which also hosts the crew’s lodgings for a maximum of 14 and for whom great attention has been paid in making them comfortable. Still on this same deck we find a wellness centre which runs full beam across, a gym, hammam, a massage parlour, (which can double as a further cabin). Aft of this there’s a beach club, a garage with room enough for a couple of large tenders and two jet skis. Other guest cabins have been envisaged along the main deck in the bow area, more exactly there are two with private bathroom and an astonishing 90 square metre mega VIP suite. Aft of amidships there’s a living /saloon area with dining room, a lounge which show cases four small temperature controlled wine cellars with precious bottles of wine, and an enormous cockpit. The owners’ quarters are along the upper deck and comprise a private study, two separate bathrooms, two dressing rooms and a private access to the deck area in the bow section. This features two ‘fold away’ terraces into the topsides. The remaining 110 square metres of surface area of this deck is furnished to provide pleasant convivial moments to guests. It is furnished with a dining table, large side boards, a lounge space, with another inside lounge and bar totalling 90 square metres which can offer breath taking panoramic views. A bridge deck proper with l-Bridge full custom by Team Italia features three 32” 4k touch panels by which to monitor safety, while navigational aids, radar, Full ECDIS, CCTV, searchlight, closed circuit cams, and more pass through three multi control plants with jogger, trackball and OLED systems. A 46 inch touch screen routing facility, i-PLAN, l-NAV, anchor watch system, a document and a System Supervisor in addition to infotainment, there’s also a pool, two sun bathing fully equipped platforms, a bar, lounge sector and an external dinette spot ideal for snacks and informal ‘al fresco’ dinners, next to the helm controls station on the bridge deck. BENETTI MEGA YACHT “SPECTRE” WINS WORLD’S BEST YACHT AWARD

A symbol of Made in Italy excellence, with a unique and inimitable design, 69-meter mega yacht M/Y “Spectre” is back on the top step of the podium at the World Superyacht Awards in the category “Displacement yachts between 500 and 1,999 tonnes”. The Boat International judges were won over by exteriors designed by Giorgio M. Cassetta and interiors by the Benetti Interior Style Department. M/Y Spectre is also a worthy winner of the award because of its sporty performance, the cutting edge technology of the hull by Mulder Design, and  Total Ride Control®   by Naiad Dynamics.

benetti spectre yacht

Almost a month after the Asia Boating Awards 2019, where M/Y “Spectre” won the “Best Custom-Built Yacht” prize,  the iconic 69-meter Benetti wins another prestigious new award . This time  M/Y “Spectre”  has cast its spell over the designers, architects and yachting experts that were part of the jury of Boat International, one of the world’s most highly respected yachting magazines, who gave the yacht the  World Superyacht Award  in the category  “Displacement yachts between 500 and 1,999 tonnes”  for its build quality, technology, high performance and cruising comfort.

Paolo Vitelli  made the following comment on this latest achievement: “I feel extremely proud to be  Chairman of Azimut-Benetti Group , once again recognized as the largest megayacht producer in the world for 19 years now. Benetti is receiving this prestigious award for Spectre and in the meantime is completing 3 Giga yachts of more than 100 mt. We are living a sparkling sales season and hosting great events all over the world. These are great achievements with which I happily celebrate the 50th Anniversary of my Group”.

The words of Chairman Vitelli were echoed by  Giorgio M. Cassetta , who designed the exteriors of M/Y “Spectre”. “Imagining, designing and building  Spectre  was a great opportunity, which my team and I honoured with our most dedicated attention and work. I am deeply grateful for this outstanding recognition and wish to thank deeply John and Jeanette Staluppi, all the team involved in this spectacular construction, my own team who have spared no effort and all those who have shown appreciation for Spectre which will always bear an important place in my heart”.

The dynamic exterior design of “Spectre” accommodates spacious interiors by Benetti’s Interior Style Department, which has created a modern yacht embellished by steel detailing and sculpted glazed surfaces. The atmosphere conjures up the mood of 1930s Art Deco found in New Orleans and Florida, which draws its inspiration from late 19th century French Liberty style.

The distinctive features that won the judges over also include the incredible performance and cutting edge technology of the “High Speed Cruising Hull” designed by Dutch firm  Mulder Design  and the innovative  Total Ride Control®  system by  Naiad Dynamics . These two technologies give “Spectre” a  top speed of 21.2 knots , with a range of  6,500 nautical miles  at a  speed of 12 knots .

“The High Speed Cruising Hull was developed by Mulder Design over the years with the target to increase cruising speed by 30% compared to conventional displacement hulls”, said  Frank Mulder , founder of the Dutch studio. “This technology improves on board comfort and increases fuel efficiency at long range speed, thus obtaining serious long range capability”.

“We credit Mulder Design, Benetti and the yacht owner for their forward thinking and confidence in Naiad Dynamics”, said  John Venables, CEO  of Naiad Maritime Group . “We are delighted to have had the opportunity to apply our Total Ride Control technology for this superb yacht. Benetti has made this a reality”. The system significantly improves the cruising stability of “Spectre” and onboard comfort using two roll stabilizing fins, two forward pitch control canards and three independently controlled stern blades.

Video: 69m Benetti superyacht Spectre captured underway

The 69 metre superyacht  Spectre  can be seen underway for the first time in a new video released by Benetti .

The superyacht, which was delivered to owners John and Jeanette Staluppi in November, can be seen cruising alongside fellow Benetti yachts, the 67 metre  Seasense and 63 metre 11.11 .

It comes after the yacht was delivered at a ceremony held at the Livorno shipyard on Monday, November 19.

Spectre is the ninth James Bond-inspired yacht commissioned by the couple who are described as "adoring" the secret agent franchise. Spectre is also the third Benetti built for the Staluppis in less than a decade, following  Diamonds Are Forever  and  Quantum of Solace.

The yacht was launched at Benetti's Livorno yard in August earlier this year.  Spectre features naval architecture by Mulder Design , continuing a near 30-year partnership between the Dutch studio and the Staluppis that dates back to the 1988 launch of Octopussy at Heesen Yachts .

Mulder was tasked with the structural design, hull and propulsion system and was responsible for the yacht's "High Speed Cruising Hull", which means  Spectre  will be 30% faster than "normal" displacement yachts. As a result,  Spectre  will have a top speed of 21.2 knots and a 6,500 nautical mile range at 12 knots.

Formerly known as Hull FB 269, Spectre boasts an exterior penned by Giorgio Cassetta working in collaboration with the in-house Benetti design team. The result is a "traditional" yacht with a "long and sharp bow and extended superstructure."

Attention was given to connecting the exterior and interior designs. To this end, outdoor fixed furniture has been designed and custom made to tie in with the interior, which is populated with shiny teak, black lines and steel.

The interior design meanwhile was handled by the yard's interior stye department, resulting in a decor inspired by "French hotels and boutiques". The main deck, for example, features a main saloon floor inspired by a "Parisian Deco style resort".

Cassetta described  Spectre  as "a perfect example of a virtuous synthesis between the owners' and builder's cultures." He added: "John and Jeanette Staluppi, with their great experience and energy, have led us to imagine a yacht complete with everything you could wish for boats of this size."

Other standout features on board  Spectre  include a superyacht swimming pool and touch and go helipad.

SPECTRE // Benetti

John staluppi - a well-known name in the yachting industry. not as a designer, not as a shipyard but as a very experienced yacht owner. he is known for high-speed and very luxurious yachts as well and yachts named after james bond movies (in this case: spectre aka fb269)..

I have never worked with him or met him, but he is one of my favorite yacht owners because he had exciting projects like The World is not Enough, Octopussy , Project Skyfall , Diamonds are Forever et cetera. Now after 750,000 working hours comes M/Y SPECTRE to the world.

The exterior design of SPECTURE comes from Giorgio M. Cassetta , while the Benetti shipyard designed the interior with the in-house team. Mulder Design calculated the naval architecture .

Two MTU engines ( 2,580 kW each at 2,100 rpm) power the yacht up to 21,2 knots . At the economical speed of 12 knots, the vessel has an operating range of 6,500 nautical miles.

Benetti installed the  Naiad Dynamics Total Ride Control® – a stabilizer system usually found on military and commercial vessels.

Vincenzo Poerio – Benetti CEO comments:

“We are delighted of John coming back, especially with such a request, we can define as a very exciting “new challenge”. This relationship – with a so faithful client give us a responsibility even heavier than our usual. We are sure to meet once again with his desires. By the way is an unrivaled signal of Benetti’s great commercial success – based on customer listening in addition to our working teams unmatchable capabilities to realize any kind of Owners’ request”.

John and Jeanette Staluppi say:

“We are very happy to be building our new yacht with the Benetti team as my wife, Jeanette and I were extremely pleased with “Diamonds are Forever”. The new venture will be of a much higher standard with new modern day high tech systems, and once again working with Frank and Bas Mulder. With the combination of expertise between Benetti, Mulder and our design team, we believe this will be our greatest project.”

By Katia Damborsky   12 December 2018

Commissioned by experienced owner John Staluppi, the 69m/227ft superyacht SPECTRE has unveiled her charter availability for summer 2019 in Mediterranean hotspots such as the South of France and Italy .

After making waves with her successful launch in August, Benetti ’s SPECTRE is the latest superyacht to enter the global charter market.

Her first yacht charter vacations will be taking place in summer 2019, when she will be exploring the glittering coastlines and rugged islands of the West Mediterranean .

SPECTRE’s head-turning exterior, coupled with a wealth of on-board amenities, will no doubt make her one of the most in-demand superyachts for charter when she bursts onto the scene next year.

Perfectly primed for discerning guests, the yacht is home to a vast amount of outdoor deck spaces, all of which are well-equipped to ensure the ambience is enlivened and convivial.

The sun deck is complete with a large, glass-edged pool flanked by sun pads, where guests can lie back and soak up the sun while sipping a drink whipped up at the adjacent wet bar.

Under partial shading, alfresco meals can also be enjoyed while admiring panoramic vistas of the surrounds; for more formal affairs, there is an additional dining set-up on the upper deck.

Her head-turning exterior, coupled with a wealth of on-board amenities, will no doubt make her a highly in-demand superyacht for charter.

Principal charterers will be pleased to find the owner’s suite boasts a private portion of the foredeck, with a spa pool and seating area where quiet sundowners can be savoured. This tucked-away spot also overlooks the yacht’s impressive helipad.

The motor yacht is the eighth Staluppi-superyacht to follow a James Bond-inspired theme. Her interiors were created by Benetti’s in-house design team, and exude a refined 1920’s glamour with bespoke touches reminiscent of boutique Parisian hotels.

French motifs contrast art deco shapes, and her communal areas feature infusions of black and white accents and glass furnishings.

Cruising the Moskva River: A short guide to boat trips in Russia’s capital

benetti spectre yacht

There’s hardly a better way to absorb Moscow’s atmosphere than on a ship sailing up and down the Moskva River. While complicated ticketing, loud music and chilling winds might dampen the anticipated fun, this checklist will help you to enjoy the scenic views and not fall into common tourist traps.

How to find the right boat?

There are plenty of boats and selecting the right one might be challenging. The size of the boat should be your main criteria.

Plenty of small boats cruise the Moskva River, and the most vivid one is this yellow Lay’s-branded boat. Everyone who has ever visited Moscow probably has seen it.

benetti spectre yacht

This option might leave a passenger disembarking partially deaf as the merciless Russian pop music blasts onboard. A free spirit, however, will find partying on such a vessel to be an unforgettable and authentic experience that’s almost a metaphor for life in modern Russia: too loud, and sometimes too welcoming. Tickets start at $13 (800 rubles) per person.

Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such  option  offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).

If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.

benetti spectre yacht

Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.

How to buy tickets?

Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.

“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!”  wrote  (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.

Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.

benetti spectre yacht

Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.

Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.

Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as  this   offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.

This  website  (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other  website  sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.

Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.

benetti spectre yacht

“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.

There are two main boarding piers in the city center:  Hotel Ukraine  and  Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.

Where to sit onboard?

Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.

The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.

benetti spectre yacht

Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.

There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.
